  • Wait . . . what?

I mained Doc for well over a year (next to Myers). He's a pubstomper for sure, but that's about it. Against decent survivors? Yeah . . . 😂

He blocks the exit gate switches for 40 seconds with one of his perks that's amazing

True. And that was one perk I found interesting and could synergize with a couple of others. That said, though, I'll just wait for down-the-line when it appears in the Shrine for 2k shards, as opposed to spending 9k shards on him.

I haven't played (except PTBs) in many months and have reset back to Rank 20. So, when I do eventually decide to play again, I plan to mess around on killers I own but have rarely or not yet played, as opposed to my main killers. So, I'll probably rank up slowly, and have time before I need to worry about potentially serious builds again.

Heck, I might even mess around and learn some new killers while going perkless, which is usually my preferred starting point to get a feel for power, cooldown, timing, etc.

I'm the same way. Depending on how much it costs I may play it, but I'll more than likely come back to dbd after a few weeks/months

From everything I saw on YouTube, it is Free to Play (and so far, says that at Steam) with the lootboxes and store being cosmetic only.

No doubt future Specters and Survivors will cost money, but it appears the base game is free. I also like that you buy your perks with the in-game currency you earn, as opposed to this randomized junk of DbD's bloodweb.

I have no issue with grinding when my grind goal is specific. But I hate the way DbD handles it. Honestly, if I wanted to grind just for the chance at RNG, I would go back to MMO raiding.

I've no interest in whether or not an asymmetrical game can kill or hurt DbD. I don't own any stock in BHVR, so ultimately don't care what happens with them. I just want one to come along that is decent enough, and holds enough of a community, that I don't have to fire this thing up anymore just for an occasional asymmetrical horror fix. Whenever it releases, I'll be trying Evil Dead: The Game for that precise reason, too.

  • Yeah, between writing, marketing, community building and maintenance, then add it in the little man being in virtual school, my weeks are booked pretty solid. I realized early on that the Rift was not for people like me, so I gave it the attention it deserved: I ignored it.

This is one of those games where I ended up not caring one bit about cosmetics. As for the lore, I just look it up online and get it all.

  • Okay, honestly? I could not possibly care any less about anything K-Pop.

But that isn't why I'll be skipping this Chapter. I played him a bit on PTB, and I just wasn't sold on paying cash for him nor paying 9k shards for him. Nothing about him made me feel like I had to own him or grind out his perks.

  • While I seriously doubt it will even come close to killing DbD, I do plan to be in Home Sweet Home: Survival when it goes public live and give it a whirl.

But I'm also a player that enjoyed Friday: The 13th and am neither married to, nor in love with, DbD in the first place.

This argument hinges on the underlying premise that the Killer in your scenario is playing for, or cares about, bloodpoints.

Any Killer that does not is not subject to this argument.

When I play (and I haven't in months) I would be one of those Killers that doesn't care about BP. I have the perk loadouts that I want on the Killers that I enjoy, and no new Killer or Perk in the last few chapters has incentivized me to care about the grind again. Heck, I typically just sit on the BP until it's near the 1 million cap, and then just spend it to spent it.

If I cared to camp the hook, BHVR penalizing me BP would be a whoop-dee-doo. It certainly would not be a deterrent. Same thing for Pips and rank.

I've asked the Discords I'm in to yell at me if they see "Tippy2k2 is playing Dead by Daylight"

I'm sick of this ######### pattern of getting pissed off at this game, shutting it off, playing again, and getting pissed off all over again. I feel like every week I'm making a "I should quit but I'm too ######### stupid to actually do it" post so I'm really hoping this time it actually sticks and I won't be coming back.

But I should stop posting in this particular thread as I'm not looking to hijack someone else's thread to ######### in...

Yeah, I just stick with playing Overwatch for my PvP. Sure, we're not getting any new heroes or maps anymore, and only balance changes now until OW2 comes out in 2022 or 2023, but I've played Blizzard since 1994. And good, bad, and ugly (especially the bad and ugly since Activision became more hands on with them and all the old guard that made Blizzard what is was left the company), so far, I still know what to expect from them. And still get it in their games.

Sadly, I've come to learn what to expect from BHVR as well. And it's the complete opposite.

You can have my spot as I just uninstalled the game

I'm stupid so I'll probably be back too but this is the first time I've gone through the steps of uninstalling so hopefully having to take the added step of reinstalling will make me realize that it's an awful idea and not do it

Fourth game in a row with some asshat clickity click doing everything they can to make the game miserable for me and I'm just ######### done with it. Good luck with coming back, hope you don't get driven away ASAP by #########.

I feel ya. I uninstalled during the fiasco that was the Twins chapter. Now I check the forums here and there to see if it's worth coming back to yet, and BHVR has consistently made it clear that I made the right choice back in December.

  • I haven't played since before the Twins release. Though I do check the forums and news on DbD from time to time. So far, nothing has inspired me to play again.

  • It's also a server in Roblox that next to no one plays, because it is horrible.

If your kids want a "Dead by Daylight" type game that is actually more fun than the real Dead by Daylight (sadly, a low bar), tell them to play Flee the Facility in Roblox. Easy to get full matches, too, as that Roblox game is running 20k to 40k people depending on time of day.

There’s no need to be so vitriolic.

What people don’t remember is that BHVR is a, to put it mildly, small company. Their portfolio of games isn’t exactly impressive. It’s not as simple as just changing a line of code and pressing save. Not only do they have to invest time into concepts, the programming team has to invest valuable time and effort into implementing it without creating more unexpected bugs.

Your particular list of complaints is probably on their to-do list. But keep in mind that they are small and can’t address everything. It is unfair to them to be so vituperative on such a matter.

While they're no EA or Activision-Blizzard, they also aren't that small, either. They're also big enough that Netease decided to own a piece of them.

I only play QPC. Not fond of forced 2-2-2 matches. I already got the Torb, Rein and Moira skin for the Christmas, next saving up for Mei that penguin suit is cute as heck. I just finished Anna's gingerbread challenge which is why I'm right now typing while on hook in DBD. Hahhaha

Yeah, even though we're a premade group, we loathe 2-2-2. Dumbest idea ever. Sometimes, we just need to switch roles between us mid-match, like if our DPS are having a rough go, me and my 27-year-old son can switch Support with them, take DPS, and usually turn it around between his Ashe and my 76.

Can't do that in friggin RoleQ. Not to mention, I hear that since the OWL gave away 50k game keys, that RoleQ Quick Play and Comp are smurf flooded now. If so, I'll pass.

Oh I was playing that too just an hour ago. Hahhaa.

BTW nice to see you Klmeran as I recall last time we were also talking Overwatch (this was on my other account that got banned).

We probably were, LOL. It's been my main game since it launched, and it helps that I can relax and chill in it with a 4 to 6 stack family & friends group. We mostly just play Quick Play Classic and Mystery Heroes in the Arcade. Almost got this week's Ana challenge skin already. Next week is the one I'm waiting for. Love the Roadhog Frosty skin. Bought the Zenyatta Toybot skin last night since he's one of my mains, and still sitting on 40k coins. I usually only spend them during Anniversary or Halloween Terror.

Had a good night tonight. Was popping off as Soldier 76, Junkrat, and Lucio.

  • "Is anyone out there having fun tonight?"

Well, I had a blast tonight with family & friends, but . . . we were playing Overwatch. About to go read some before bed, now. I just wanted to see what was going on in the Fog, but I haven't launched this game since Blight's release.

If so this outright proves they lied to us.

Yeah. If it really was that highly upvoted, isn't it cute how once again someone from BHVR saying something was proven to not happen, yet again?

  • They need to do a lot for it to be a great year. Actually eliminating a lot of the bugs in the game would be a start. Fixing Killers like Nurse would be another. And maybe hiring a QA team (or a new one) would be another.

Unfortunately, this is BHVR, so my expectations are a bit low. 🤷‍♂️

I think we have different definitions of useless...by using a mori even after a second hooking you are still saving yourself the flashlight save attempts, pallet stun save attempts, firecracker save attempts, sabo save attempts, plus the survivor won't be able to body block a hook - nor do you lose a strategic hook as no survivor would have died on the hook so no permanent hook loss. That to me sounds far from useless.

Edited to add - not forgetting DS.

Second hook? You think so. Watch the facecamping that will happen until second phase, the actual requirement, then Mori on that first unhook. This was a great way to incentivize more facecamping, and right behind the twins being slug/camping machines as well. Sigh.

  • At this point, it is what it is. I came back just for the hell of it, but with this fiasco, it just isn't worth it all that much. The Overwatch Winter Wonderland event should be coming next week, Cyberpunk 2077 comes this week, and I have plenty of books to read (my TBR list seems to be endless).

Unless their team is much bigger than people have assumed and stated, it's going to go any of the following ways:

    1) The bugs are going to take forever and a day to fix because they still have the next DLC to get done and out in three months.

    2) The bugs aren't going to be fixed and will just linger around for the gods know how long.

    3) The bugs will get fixed, but then there's a real risk of it eating into development and quality time on the next DLC, and the cycle continues again because they've shown they're unwilling to postpone or forego a DLC.

  • One issue for BHVR is going to be which other countries this is game is sold and played in. Because depending on where, they're either going to have to write two sets of in-game lore, one being gay and one where it isn't mentioned, or risk getting into trouble.

This is one of the things even Activision-Blizzard is careful with for Overwatch. For example, when Tracer was revealed as gay in the Christmas comic years ago, the edition releasing in some other countries removed the page or two where it was revealed between her and Emily because they had to due to the laws over there. It's also why none of Tracer's voice lines added to the actual game even remotely point to her being gay.

In Overwatch's case, however, their lore is all told mainly outside of the game through animated shorts, short stories, and comics. Whereas Dead by Daylight does its lore within the game, itself.

They didn’t try to make any excuses, a dev said he can’t talk about the reasons why this happened and that was it..

i just tried to see a possible explanation. We don’t know how they are bound to their releases on the different platforms. I at least know that’s the ‚devs are lazy‘ and ‚devs don’t care‘ arguments are not correct.

I agree on the Devs part. Such a thing as a delay is not a Dev decision, it's a higher-up decision. And to be honest, the higher-ups at BHVR seem about as decent as Robert Kotich.

This fiasco is not on the Devs, it's on the management.

I imagine there is a difference between a full game release and release of DLC like DbD chapters. But I could be wrong of course.

i hope after this disaster, they will figure out a better plan if a chapter turns out to be this buggy.

Well, Activision-Blizzard did also delay the Shadowlands expansion, as well. It's out now, of course, but was delayed by several weeks due to being a buggy mess in end-of-Beta. And that was an expansion product with preorder money also long since paid by the customers. So, BHVR has zero excuse.

I agree that it would probably take a strong license, yes.

But a strong license wouldn't even be worth it to most studios, not with the associated costs for said license and not for this gaming genre. The genre has had two real successes: Evolve and DbD. Even asymmetrical games already based on licenses, Predator: Hunting Grounds and Friday the 13th, failed to survive. And Friday the 13th was in a bad place even before they used the lawsuit as a reason.

The issue, and likely what will keep DbD from having to deal with any "serious competition," is that the genre really hasn't shown itself to be successful outside of two games that I know of (if there are others, I admittedly do not know them). And heck, Evolve is even a memory, now.

Did the Resident Evil one even do well? I didn't follow that one as I'm not a player of the series.

And even right now, yes, DbD keeps its Steam numbers up, but they're also doing so with MSRP reducing sale after sale after sale. And of course, console numbers are boosted by DbD being in the respective subscription passes.

  • @Rydog said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1799304#Comment_1799304

Yeah, real competition would put the screws to them for sure. It's a shame that nobody else has been able to get it right.

The issue as I see it is that there is little to no solid reason for any studio that might be capable of making a competitor to do so. Any AAA studio would look at the graveyard of asymmetrical games that exist, and the fact that DbD has survived and possesses so many horror license, and I can't see them feeling it's worthwhile. Especially when asymmetrical games, namely Predator and Friday the 13th, with major franchises behind them crashed and burned.

Meanwhile, after looking at Last Year, Hide or Die, and probably a couple of others, indie developers would likely have little push to jump into the genre.

The asymmetrical genre hasn't exactly been a long-term success for anything except DbD (and maybe Evolve, before that). Hell, even BHVR's other attempt, Deathgarden, failed horrendously . . . twice.

  • Matt Cote stated in 2019 that they had looked into it and were turned down as TokyoPop did not feel DbD was big enough for the investment.

with wes craven gone I don't have high hope for it tho.

Yes, that would be a Reboot. Which is basically relaunching it, acknowledging at least the original as having happened, while ignoring whatever sequels they choose to.

That's why Halloween 2018 was also a Reboot.

A reboot is different from a Remake. In that regard, the Rob Zombie Halloween and the newest Child's Play were Remakes.

I leave a Lobby when I get a Streamer join. Why? They get paid for it, but I don't. I didn't agree to become part of their show. I suppose if I saw Otz or Monto or someone like that I might stay because I watch the shows and I'm a fan. But in general, I'm not going to track down every damn Streamer to see if I show up on their show. I'm not that vain, nor that interested.

The ethical matter is they are getting paid and I am not. It seems off somehow.

That's the thing for me as well. As someone who also works in the entertainment industry, albeit not in streaming, I'm not at all into helping them build their platform without first being asked or deciding to do so on my own because I know of them and enjoy their content.

If, and I stress if, I am already a viewer, then that's different. I've chosen to support them. I'll even do "play with viewers" matches with them to add to that content creation and have in a few different game titles back when I watched Twitch. Not DbD, though, because I'm not a fan of SWF in general and won't do it.

I've no doubt that there are times I am in a streamer's game and don't realize it because they don't have TTV or YT in their names. And that's just the nature of the online gaming beast. But I will not willingly do so unless I know them, their content, and am a fan.

    Otherwise, I leave the lobby.

Whelp I too am done with this game. My last game just cut the straw.

I'm trying to learn blight, and on console he is very clunky. I think any killer played on console is more difficult. Well I kept getting 360ed every single time by this Feng and the auto aim would swing me wrong and kept making me miss. This happened every time. I'm low rank on killer too because clearly I'm not the best. I get 4ks with doc and spirit but I really wanna play the new killer. Well this Feng just really aggravated me, plus she had a key, so I tunneled. I admit that. Well she kept 360ing me and camping powerful loops. It didn't help my fov was in the grass either. Well I finally get her and of course everyone on her team (I think they were swf) had borrowed time and of course she also had DS. They all ended up getting out and tbagged me as well. I knew I wasn't going to win, I just wanted the Feng. She was real toxic, tbagging pallets then would run to another loop and tbag. They all also were running really powerful perks too, a lot of crutch second chance perks. As a survivor main of four years, I don't even run those.

But anyway, that's not why I'm choosing to stop playing, it was after game where they all chose to message me and laugh at me, telling me how bad I was, how I sucked, how I deserved it, flooding my messages with laughing emojis. Btw I was rank 13, they were all rank 5s. It wasn't enough that they won, but to bully me and laugh at me when I'm already feeling down about losing. Im just sick of it. I'm sick of how toxic the dbd community is. I've delt with this for years and I'm just done. Its sad that not even the overwatch community is this toxic. Egos need to be checked. Tbh now, even as a survivor main, I dont care if they nerf survivors even more. I hope they do actually. Maybe it'll set some of those toxic ######### in place.

Yeah, it is indeed saying a lot when the DbD community makes Overwatch toxicity in Competitive mode look like a game of Roblox by comparison.

The community has been an absolute turn off here for too long. I shouldn't feel a need to close off all chat and make my Steam profile completely private just to play a game and have fun. Not even in Overwatch do I need to go through all that just to play in peace.

I've actually uninstalled for a host of reasons, and plan to delete the forum bookmark after posting this to you. I play video games for fun, even Overwatch, and DbD is just not fun anymore. And there are far, far too many options out there. I don't "need" an asymmetrical game, or a horror game, in my rotation. I'm having a blast in Spellbreak, for example.

  • @ClickyClicky said:

I dont know why people are saying this isn’t tournament worthy.

Watching a survivor get an escape due to a 4% kobe and DS was the kind of epic play you’re not gonna see in any other game.

You and I will disagree there. The 4% is 100% RNG based, so that is luck and not skill. I consider truly skilled plays to be epic, such as a Widow grappling hook, leap high into the air, double headshot while falling in an Overwatch tournament or OWL play. Or the coordinated team plays in LoL tournaments.

A 4% lucky self-unhook into a DS escape isn't what I think of when I think of an epic play. I think: well, RNG was on their side. I already 4% quite more than I should in DbD as it is.

So, when it comes to tournaments, I'm glad that I'm "not gonna see plays like that in any other game." I prefer my tournaments to be about high-end, skilled plays. Not wins due to RNG.

Yeah dbd is getting annoying to play. Every game its some old killer, never blight, who tunnels and camps, and brings a Mori each game and some op add-on. Its getting tiring. I had 7 moris in a row yesterday. Its getting out of hand.

Ashe is bae. I reached plat last season & had to take a break from OW because it was taking over my life when I decided to start going for diamond & so I came back to OW.

Then I ran into like 4 moris yesterday and I'm back to wanting to go back to OW.

Last time I played Survivor, around a week ago, four out of five of my matches that day were against Ghostface, and all four had an Ebony. I was like: Yep, this is why I play killer.

Then I hit the killer issues, and I'm like: Yep, this is why I play Overwatch. 😂

I don't even know what's going to happen to me and DbD in 2021. Overwatch, Paladins, and Spellbreak have my attention with the Friends & Family group (they don't care for asymmetrical games), and I'm wagering that Overwatch 2 will drop in May 2021, since that would be the 5th Anniversary for "Overwatch," and Blizzard loves their dates that way. So, come 2021 either way, OW2 will have my attention for the new Heroes, new maps, new PvP mode, and the PvE.

I used to be pc but now I play dbd and overwatch on console. (Xbox one). I also play ESO (Elder Scrolls Online) because I've been a skyrim and oblivion fan for so long and ESO is amazing. I actually switched from World of Warcraft after 10 years of that game. These games are a good break from DBD when the toxicity gets me. I usually jump on overwatch and blow people up as Junkrat to get my anger out lol.

Ahhh, Junkrat. I have around 200 hours on him alone. Next is Lucio. I have way too many hours over there. In the four digits worth. 🤣

Lately, been playing mostly Dva, Zen, Brigiette, Ash, and Reaper in OW. Over in Paladins: Drogoz, Pip, and Raum. Still trying to see which gauntlet combos fit me best in Spellbreak. Right now I am leaning Fire/Toxic or Toxic/Wind.

I'm on a break from DbD because the "cannot hook" bug was a final straw for me. I'll give them six months or so to maybe get their game healthy, and if they do will be happy to return. Playing Bug Russian Roulette every time they patch has worn me down.

I literally had that same game. I had a huntress with iri head, infantry belt and a ebony Mori. One guy dc'ed. I kept her busy for 1 gen until she took to my team mates and downed them. Hooked one in basement and camped the slugged one instead of hooking since he was also downed near basement. I was able to unhook but she got me with her iri head hatchet in the basement and slugged me for the injured guy who just got off hook just so she could Mori us all. I disconnected because I wasn't giving her that Mori. I wasted my last anniversary cake but I didn't want her to get that Mori on me she was so desperate and sweaty to get. I wasn't going to get that many bloodpoints from it anyway.

She then proceeded to GG ez us and laughed at our foul mood since all of our fun was ruined by that game. She thought it was funny. I exited the game and went to play overwatch. My mood to play dbd was killed.

I'm on a break from DbD. Probably won't be back until 2021. Are you console or PC in Overwatch? If console: drats. But I also play Paladins, which has crossplay.

Also, check out Spellbreak. Coming from a fella that usually dislikes BRs, it's very, very fun. Especially all the elemental interactions not only between your two gauntlets, but also triple interactions when in a Squad (and Duos come in this week). Spellbreak is also crossplay.

I think someone explained this to me once before. The way steam/sony/microsoft works is the devs can't exactly test these updates until they go live. There's the PTB but that's to try out new things and to tweak numbers. I don't think they can foresee what bugs will show up until the update gets downloaded and mixed in with the existing code.

But yeah, each update introduces bugs.

That's inaccurate. It's 100% on BHVR and their lack of proper testing.

I play Overwatch, which is on PC, PS4, Xbox, and Switch, and when they patch, even when they release a new hero, there are not as many serious bugs as we get here.

Yes, there are bugs. Every online game will have them, but it's clear they test their patches over there. Whereas it is very questionable whether BHVR does the same.

Multiple platforms is not the issue, unless the bugs were only on the Sony or Microsoft platforms. The issue is BHVR.

I was maybe simplyfying things yeah, but what baffles me is that, basically people are saying that f13 is 'superior' because it has stuff that whenever someone suggests something equal/similar for dbd the same people come in and cry havoc for 'how that isn't dbd/how it won't fit with lore' etc.

i'm just baffled at the... hypocrisy?

I think the main difference with F13 that, for me, makes it superior (in a sense) is that it was designed with comms accounted for, and Jason was designed with the tools to handle counselors on comms.

An area where DbD completely fails.

Outside of that, the games are different and each their own thing. Not necessarily better than the other.

    ...F13 is still alive?

Depends on your definition. The player base is small and there will be no future content updates for it, but I consistently get full lobbies in less than a minute on Steam, NA servers.

A lot of this isn't exactly true. While most of the Jason's have the same functions they're play style is very, very different. You can't do what you can with part 2 as you could with part 4. Part 2 is very tactical, setting up traps, ambushing counselors etc while part 4 you've only got 3 traps so setting up traps is out of the question and he's playstyle is an all out aggressive beast, pressuring counselors with his high destruction breaking doors in 3 hits.

Your point about counselors isn't exactly true either. You can very much swap objectives in the fly. But your approach to them is different to what counselor you pick. And there's nothing wrong with that. It's just more variety that compliments different playstyles. Want to play stealthily and as a lone wolf? Pick AJ. Want to be fast at repairing cars, boats and fuse boxes? Pick Deborah. Want to distract Jason and help your team? Pick Adam and get Jason to waste time on you, running him around the map.

The counselor exclusive perks definitely didn't make them overpowered. They had drawbacks too. AJ wasn't a strong fighter like Adam and couldn't fix stuff as fast Deborah. Deborah wasn't as strong as Adam and stealthy as AJ. And Adam wasn't as stealthy as AJ or fast at repairing like Deborah. See what I'm getting at here?

And . . . you saved me a lot of typing. Thank you. 😁

It’s almost as if the devs didn’t actually turn this update on at any point and check if it works.

Which differs from which previous update? 😂

That’s where I experienced the issue. I played against Freddy on a different map and everything was fine.

@Kilmeran Have you played on Springwood? As that’s where the issue seems to be occurring. I’m assuming it’ll also be on Yamaoka Estate but can’t confirm.

Sadly, I don't remember which maps I played him on.

  • Odd. I played Freddy in four matches tonight and didn't have any Dream World issues. Survivors seemed to be doing fine as well. At least their skills didn't seem to be affected.

@Kilmeran I just want to tell you I resonate completely with your message, you're my hero, and I hope I can get the courage to be like you one day. I let writing turn into a 'hobby' and graduated business school because it was 'the smart thing to do'.

Now, I think the smart thing to do is try to be the best, happiest version of yourself, and you can't do that if you pass on your dreams to adopt one that's socially acceptable. Hats off to you, hope you continue to follow your own dreams and creativity. You give the sad and discouraged dreamers hope!

Well thanks, I appreciate that. I was fortunate that I had a father who completely supported me being a writer, and even in my late teenage years made sure I never gave up when the rejection slips came pouring in. I realized I wanted to write at age 12, after reading the Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny. I was also lucky enough to become his friend from 1991 until he died in 1995, and he taught me a lot about the business back then.

Of course, 14 years in the gaming industry and then returning to fiction a couple years ago, that business had changed a lot. Now there was Amazon, traditional publishers were putting out fewer books per year, and many literary agencies now had departments within them dedicated to marketing their clients to Hollywood.

But the thing is to just write. Don't worry if it will sell, or if it's commercial enough. Especially in this Amazon driven world. Just write. I've sold through the traditional publishers, and I've sold on my own through Amazon (what is called a Hybrid Author). The thing with Amazon is to save up some money to produce your first two to three books. And you don't need a ton of money, either.

    Why?

Well, for one, commission a unique cover. Your cover will be the first eye-catcher to people browsing. But, the cover does not get the sale. The number one driver of sales for Amazon books is your book's description. Learn how to write copy that hooks people, interests them, and makes them want to see more.

Also learn how to use Amazon's keywords both on your backend and within your description. You have seven lines on the backend that can each contain 50 characters, including spaces. So, for example, if you do something like this on two lines:

metaphysical astral projection occult ESP psychic

romance cyberpunk techno thriller mystery suspense

Your book has the potential to appear in any customer searches that include those words. Such as Occult Thriller, or Occult Mystery Romance, and so forth.

Also note that Amazon also searches your book description and book title for category keywords. That means you have a lot of keyword options to get your book found. And try to never use a keyword more than once. Repeating it doesn't add any additional weight to your book being included in search results.

Obviously, use keywords that somehow relate to what you wrote, or it's a waste.

Another good thing to use, and again it costs a little bit of money, is to make sure you Sponsor your book under books by other authors. Ever notice when you look at books on Amazon, one of the category lines of book covers you'll see is "Sponsored?" That means the author chose that book to sponsor their own book under. You find books in your main genre that are popular, and have your book Sponsored for that page using the Amazon tool. Now, your book appears there. You set your own budget and per appearance rate, and the more you can budget the more impressions you can get.

Does that all mean you'll make money. Nopety-nope-nope. I've had books that sold damned well, books that just sold okay, and books that . . . well . . . for the time it took to write them, commission covers, pay for editing, and all those man-hours, I would have made more working at WalMart for those same hours than I did on that book. It happens.

Same with reviews. You will always get some 1-star to 3-star reviews, especially at Amazon. It's just the nature of the business. Never let it bother you. You will never, ever please everyone.

Yes sir. I'm proud of my work thus far. I'll probably keep the series going until I die.

Lol it's okay. We're all meant for different things. I spent from ages 20 to 28 I think just trying to hammer out the storyline and how to do all the things. It's a whole pie. But if you are doing something, believe in me who believes in you.

I have several books in queue to be read right now, but just added your series to the queue.

No. You can't refund chapters. I wish you could, however.

On Steam, I have refunded DbD chapters individually. As long as you have less than 2 additional hours playing since you purchased it, they refund it. At least, it's worked for me.

Note I stated 2 additional hours, not 2 hours total in DbD.

That's really cool man. I'm a fantasy novelist (type Heartbound in author search on Amazon) and I'm completely failing in advertising. When COVID stops being a thing I'm going to try to do book readings and all that jazz. It's not easy being a creative type.

    To Kill a God series?

I loved highlander! For awhile I high school it was the only TV I watched. Even dressed as Duncan for Halloween. I already had the hair.

I did a lot of editing on the scripts and was part of the team that had to keep Duncan's timeline straight for flashbacks, especially in the later seasons when we started showing the dates for them. My first episode with them was in Season 3, Take Back the Night, which also introduced the female Celtic immortal: Ceirdwyn.

My 20-year-old daughter is named for her.

I loved the show, and worked on Seasons 3-5. It's a shame that Stan Kirsch (Ritchie Ryan) committed suicide this past January.

Whoa slow down there grandpa. Adapt or die.

I say that as a 41 year old, btw. *We* are no longer the arbiter of what is and isn't a valid profession. You can say "go get a skill!" But.... No. These kids don't need to. They are doing what they want how they want when they want.

Us old people would have killed for that. Unless you're one of those people that have to be told what to do. Then sure, go get a job. But I'm not and I fail to see a reason why this isnt a legit profession. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it invalid. Just because something doesn't contribute to society in the way you think it should, doesn't mean it doesn't have merit or worth.

Go get back on your rocking chair grandpa, cuz this isn't our world anymore, it's the kids. We're just living in it.

Well said. Coming from someone turning 48 years old on Christmas.

    Yeah I enjoyed untill Dawn,

But going back to the whole paying to watch thing, I can't get my mind around why people pay so much money to watch so called ' content creators' I've saw the odd video on YouTube that's funny but I wouldn't pay £4 to subscribe to someone to sit on their game all day. All the younger generations are going to think this is the way forward. Go out, learn a skill to make money that benefits the world, be an electrician, a hospital worker, a shop worker. Sitting playing a game with brain dead followers is not how to build a life. It's like Jersey shore, big brother etc.

Becoming a Streamer or content creator is no different for the "younger generation" than becoming an author or actor who had dreams of making it big was for previous generations. Or the sports star. Some will make it, many won't and they'll eventually find other work.

I've been an author for close to 30 years. I also spent 14 years in the gaming industry. I'd also written for Marvel and worked on Highlander: The Series in the 90s. I had extended family members who talked like you: I would never make it, I'm throwing my life away, et cetera.

Fast-forward, and not only have I been best-selling, but I've had my I.P. licensed by others. I've made a nice living in fiction and games. If I had listened to those extended family members, I'd probably be making a lot less money, working for someone else and making them rich, and wouldn't be able to work from home where I raised my kids, not some daycare provider.

There's no harm in them pursuing their dream. If they happen to be the small percentage that make it, good for them. If they don't, life will force them into other jobs. If they choose to not get other work and make a living for themselves . . . well, unfortunately there are enough of those people in the world already, and it has zero to do with Twitch or YouTube.

@Kilmeran @SenzuDuck I decided to go back and look, the stats from around November apparently excluded games with DC's whereas the stats from earlier in the year counted them, so turns out you're both right.

Thanks for that. I knew I remembered him saying it, I just mixed up which stat block. But that makes sense, now that I think about it. I wasn't playing nor following DbD in November 2019. I left September 2019 and didn't come back until sometime in 2020.

I'm about to break from DbD and the forums again. I have a manuscript due to the publisher in November and am a bit behind, so need to grind that deadline. But thanks for clarifying before I head off. I very much appreciate the time you put into it.

See y'all when I come back after the New Year.
