  • As survivor I almost never dodge unless I see a big streamer, even though I'm in anonymous mode. As killer, I dodge constantly. Or "lobby shop" as someone else put it.

But now with bots that are vaguely good, I just play against bots. Then I don't have to worry about the "survivor rulebook" I'm supposed to follow.

If they care about winning, they should probably play a game where winning means anything. Not that winning is the priority for these people. Their obvious priority is to curate negative attention.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3372055#Comment_3372055

No really, what second chance perks? Decisive Strike was nerfed into oblivion. OTR and BT are negated by killers just hitting you immediately off hook. No one runs any of these. That leaves, what? Unbreakable?

Also I'm not sure why you're playing a multiplayer game if you seemingly despise the idea of interacting with other players. If you don't want to actually play the game, and instead want the comforting monotony of trundling between three generators and kicking them over and over and over until the server eventually forces the match to end, might I suggest a farming game? That way you can get your fix of repetitive non-gameplay without deliberately boring other people into submission.

You're arguing a strawman. There are other ways to interact with survivors than by chasing.

You don't get to tell someone else what is and isn't fun. If my fun means you're bored... ok? And? I'm not here to make the game fun for you. That's the part you don't seem to understand. Again, it's not my job for you to have fun. That's your job.

If trying to break a 3gen isn't fun for you, I get it. But I have just as much right to try and win as you do. Winning is defined, by the devs specifically, as killers killing you. So I'm going to use all my tools at my disposal to do so. If you don't want to fight in a 3 gen, let the killer hook you and move onto the next match. And if you won't do that, then you're just as "bad" as the killer wanting to win. It just makes you a hypocrite at that point.

yeah but at that point why play SM when you can play blight or wesker and its just 100x more fun than just camping a gen until the match times out with overcharge cob and like oppression unnerving or jolt erupt or any of the other combos. why do killers sacrifice fun for everyone to win, they are only 20% of the game you shouldnt be able to ruin it for everyone for your stupid ratio in a casual game

Its not the killers job to make the game fun for you. If you aren't having fun, stop playing.

Also, you can't define fun for someone else. I don't find pinball boy very fun.

No, that's very obviously not the intent. No player would sign onto a game where they're just plain helpless and lack any kind of agency.

Also, everyone needs to stop whinging about 'an abundance of second chance perks'. It's literally just Dead Hard.

Well if you can't fight back against the killer....what is it you can do exactly? Run. Guess what you can't do. Fight. Sounds pretty helpless to me.

As for second chance perks, I can name a few, but no, dead hard isn't the "only" one. Most exhaustion perks are and so is decisive strike.

  • You know what second chance perks, you're not ignorant to the game.

Oh and I wasn't aware that the only way I can have fun in the game is looping. Are you fing serious right now? I don't need your approval to determine what I do and don't enjoy. And yes, I do enjoy 3gens as killer specifically for the reasons I mentioned. Not difficult to figure it out. I hate looping as killer. Absolutely freaking hate it. So yes, holding down 3 gens is more fun for me.

  • @Chaosrider said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/367600/what-strategies-do-survivors-want-killers-to-use

Lets turn the tables. How would killers react if they had no strategy at all and survivors had 4 strategies that just make the game as miserable as possible to be played for killers? "strategy" is just a synonym for bad gamedesign in dbd. its literally a meme.

As if survivors don't have ways of messing with the killers. The amount of second chance perks alone proves your entire statement incorrect.

And if survivors could mess with killers like that, then the game wouldn't be dead by daylight, it'd be closer to VHS, where the teens can fight back.

Survivors are helpless *by design*. That's the intent.

  • @Grum said:

It would be nice if killers could chase survivors and have fun instead of loading into every match seethingly angry, as if the survivors have been gangstalking them and now they're going to try to make people as miserable as humanly possible. All in pursuit of a meaningless W.

3genning for me is fun because it's a challenge. It's a battle of attrition, which i like because it keeps me on my toes. I have to constantly check all 3 gens, which means I'm actually doing something other than chasing survivors, which isn't the "fun" part of killer for me (survivor is far more fun in a chase than killer. Killer is just frustrating.)

And the killers job is literally to make you as miserable as possible until you die. Then my job with you is done but I still have 3 others I have to kill as well so it very much behooves me and killers in general to not care about your fun. That's not our jobs, nor should it be.

Then we may bring back boil over to its previous state after all is a strat that survivors used right?

Talk to BHVR, not me. They're the ones that said 3genning is a valid strategy and they also were the ones that changed the perk.

I don't make the news I just report it.

  • @SMitchell8 said:

Spend 3 minutes chasing each survivor and trying to get atleast 10 hooks for a clean, fun and fair win.

4 gens can be done in 3 minutes. That's not at all viable.

  • @TigerSnake said:

Mindlessly chase different survivors and lose.

    This is the truth, really.

  • Camping and tunneling is whatever to me because they can be countered if the survivors are efficient.

Before 3-genning, all survs did was complain about camping and tunneling. It might be "whatever" to you, but it's not to the rest of the forums. So then your only answer is:

I want them to shift to a chase focused game because that's what's most enjoyable for the majority of players.

And what do you base this on?

  • @crogers271 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3368306#Comment_3368306

But what if I, as killer, love those kinds of games because I'm constantly engaged trying to keep you little snots off the gens?

    Do you?

But yes, it's called personal opinion. People will disagree on what the ideal length of a game should be. There is no "convincing argument" that exists. Instead players express their opinions about what they do and don't like.

If you want to play a long 40 minute game and you think it should be part of the game, go ahead and say that. But don't fall back on the redundant 'the devs said it was okay'.

What I think is, the killer has the same right to fun as the survivor. Yes, sometimes it IS fun to have to run back and forth between gens. 3gens have always been fun to me. If I want to sweat, I 3gen. If I don't want to sweat, I don't. I 3gen instead of facecamping or tunneling.

What's even funnier to me is, every time a killer gets a strategy that BHVR has said is acceptable, people rail on it. Camping, tunneling, 3genning - these are all ways the killer can kill. These strategies are basically the only way you can win against high level survs now.

RE: personal opinions, you have to have a convincing argument to get people to agree with you. Is that not why you're posting? To get people to agree with you? I mean, you say this:

"Yeah, BHVR is saying they are cool with it. Others are saying you shouldn't be cool with it, here's why. "

    So where's the "here's why" that's convincing?

RE: "The devs said it's ok" is absolutely a valid response. It's an explanation as to why they aren't "fixing" something they don't see as broken, nor do they see as "against the rules". Or as the person I quoted put it, "abusive". Something the devs have baked into the game isn't "abusive" and I take issue with such statements.

  • @crogers271 said:

I think the 3 gen strategy as whole should be tackled: there should be a limit to how many times a killer can kick each each gen (or damage it via a knight). Whatever might happen in a reasonable 10 minute game, add one to that, and that's your cap. This way killers could still have a 3 gen with the possibility of a come back after 4 gens are done, but can't use it is as there absolute strategy.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3368290#Comment_3368290

You and others are really just arguing definitions.

Yeah, BHVR is saying they are cool with it. Others are saying you shouldn't be cool with it, here's why. We know what BHVR is saying and we're saying it makes for a really bad game and they should do something to stop it.

But you haven't given a convincing argument as to why they should get rid of it other than "I don't like being 3-genned. It makes games 45 minutes".

But what if I, as killer, love those kinds of games because I'm constantly engaged trying to keep you little snots off the gens? You say 10 minutes is reasonable. I disagree with your definition of "reasonable".

Yes it is abuse. I view it no differently then when the devs overbuffed boil over and survivors were running to the library on the old RPD to make themselves unhookable. It isn't strategy when it doesn't require any thought or skill to do. There is no way to justify how this is good "strategy" on maps that have built in 3 gens (like dead dawg) that can be defended from the moment the match starts. I'm just going to assume you haven't played against this as a solo survivor yet because if you had, you'd realize how dumb it is to know the game is lost from the beginning if the SM does this and has slowdown perks stacked on top.

The devs have said 3-genning is a valid strategy. Killers have every right to try and kill you, since, you know, that's their job and all. And 3-genning is one (very good) way to do that. What people don't seem to get is, the killer isn't there to make your game last less than 45 minutes. He has no responsibility to make your game shorter.

I only play solo survivor. I've had many a 3gen used against me. Some I won, some I lost, but every time the game was absolutely fair. Just because you don't like a strategy doesn't mean the strategy is abuse.

  • I think you mean "Hex: Face the Darkness"

  • Oh! If that's the answer, then that works. It was just so weird that I didn't fall until right after the other surv crouched behind me. Hopefully it's just timing and not a new hack! Thank ya!

    @Mooks said:

Sounds like the killer dropped you to slug but the additional wiggle progress you get from being dropped was enough to wiggle free (I think it’s about 20 % you gain, it kind of adds to the 75 % you describe, which may have been a little bit more?)

Yes there is. Its a bloodpoint sink. Just like all those addons and offerings nobody uses. 20k is small enough to not affect anyone who plays more than 1 match a week and has a noticeable effect on people who grind p100 on everyone.

That's still not a reason LOL They make it artificially long for literally no reason. What terrible logic.

  • @Dunkinspunkin said:

"What did I do to get all the characters unlocked? I bought them."

    [

Yep. And you got your money's worth. Then they came around and gave you a bunch of extra stuff without having to spend any more of you're money. You're welcome for all the FREE stuff you got.

    RIP public school system

It's not free if I spent time and bloodpoints to get there. LOL Time is a resource. So are bloodpoints. Therefore, no, nothing was free LOL

In addition to that, as I pointed out before, if you're saying that all your characters got prestiged after the patch, that means you already had the majority of perks unlocked on those characters, thereby making your entire argument moot. LOL Like I said, you're lying about one of these two things.

  • @Dunkinspunkin said:

You're having a very hard time with this. I also think it's weird to get so caught up in semantics. If you prefer you can stop fixating on the monetary value of perceived asset and instead say CHANGE GOOD CUZ GET NEW THING WE DID NOT GET BEFORE.

But yes, it was free. You're having trouble understanding the point. First of all, you didn't enter into a transaction where you agreed to pay your time for a service. You bought a game and played it, and along the way your time was rewarded by some bonus stuff. There was never a value placed on your time by the company. They didn't agree to compensate you.

And that can be set aside, because if I asked you 2 months ago "so what did you do to get all those characters unlocked?" You'd proudly spout off about how you traded your valuable time. Full stop. Then the patch comes out, and a bunch of new thing fell in your lap. That was never part of the deal, champ. You didn't know that was ever going to be in the game, so you used your time to play Dead by Daylight, you unlocked some characters and invested into their little blood webs, and one day you got WAY more than you initially expected and didn't have to do anything differently.

    You lose.

No I don't - you still invested time into the game. Therefore you didn't get anything for free. That's that. You spent time going through bloodwebs to level up those characters. That's time spent. Therefore, once again, it cost you time. Your arguments are still poor.

"I DID THESE THINGS WHICH IS WHAT THEY USE TO QUANTIFY WHAT THEY SHOULD GIVE ME, THEREFOR IT WAS FREE!" No it wasn't. You still spent time unlocking the very perks you're saying you got for free in the first place (which is why what you say is BS LOL) You're either lying about having all your characters at 50, or you're lying about how much they got prestiged after the patch. LOL

"And that can be set aside, because if I asked you 2 months ago "so what did you do to get all those characters unlocked?" You'd proudly spout off about how you traded your valuable time. Full stop"

What did I do to get all the characters unlocked? I bought them.

  • @Dunkinspunkin said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3079963#Comment_3079963

Ehh, I'm happy to tighten up the semantics if you like. I leveled up Adam Francis from 1-50 in one day by spamming Sadako and Doctor matches during my work conference calls. With flans being used left and right, and bbq on my killers, it was a piece of cake. P1'd him, and when the update hit he was P3. Instant T3 perks on all my survivors.

I've played for about a year. When I say "free", I mean I already paid my time to play the character, and one day they said "now we'll take your progress and instantly unlock all perk tiers for you!". It didn't cost me any more than I already agreed to pay.

If I sell you a boat for $5000, and when I deliver it, I also give you a nice bottle of wine, the bottle of wine was free. Just because you paid me doesn't mean the bottle of the wine is suddenly part of the cost. We agreed on a price and you got something more than you expected. I logged in once the patch hit and instead of a bunch of scattered perks and zero prestige killers/survivors (i never prestiged because i didnt want to lose addons), I ended up with over half my catalog P3'd and perks unlocked.

So yeah, I got it for free. You're wrong.

"When I say "free", I mean I already paid my time to play the character,"

So it wasn't free. It cost you time.

Also, I have no idea what line of work you're in, but that bottle of wine isn't free. It's a tax write-off that comes out of your and my pocket.

The more I read of your post, the more I realize how dumb this sounds. LOL

" I logged in once the patch hit and instead of a bunch of scattered perks and zero prestige killers/survivors (i never prestiged because i didnt want to lose addons), I ended up with over half my catalog P3'd and perks unlocked."

If you got that many people prestiged when you logged in, you definitely spent time on those characters, which means again, they aren't giving it to you for free, you still had to spend time leveling those characters and going through their bloodweb. (edited out a part I misremembered). Also, they prestiged you based on how many perks you'd unlocked on those characters, which again means that you spent time leveling those characters.

So honestly, I'm kinda calling BS.

  • @Dunkinspunkin said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3079287#Comment_3079287

This is wrong. There was a response to removing bbq, it was letting us earn another 8k points in every match. And considering many of us got millions of BP worth of free perks only days ago with the prestige bumps im disappointed but not surprised that so many people are acting like this was anything other than free generosity.

You didn't get those perks "free". You still have/had to level up the characters. Nothing in this life is free, especially perks in dead by daylight.

  • For suvivor, I've had to switch to prove thyself, but the conditions on that are annoying.

I haven't found a BP replacement yet for BBQ. It's depressing. They say they reduced the grind but then take away the very tools to make the grind easier.

I haven't played much lately and it's not because I don't like all the other changes, the DH nerf, whathaveyou, it's because after P1'ing most of my people, I just don't care. Even if the journey technically is shorter, having to pay to prestige kills any motivation to play. I know that's a weird take away, but it's all I can think of. If I finish a match and I didn't quite make 20K, I have to go into another match just to move forward. No thanks.

  • @Sluzzy said:

I would believe they are quitting because the game is less fun now and unfair. Losing to a singular opponent that is putting into way less effort to win because the survivor objective is too difficult to finish is not really ideal. I don't blame survivors for quitting when everything fun was stripped away.

Looking at dead hard specifically, it would be like all killers suddenly not able to "lunge". Imagine if you are playing as a Tier 1 Myers all the time?

No survivor utility in chase. Killers, on top of all of these survivor nerfs, were insanely buffed exponentially. The longer gens, save the best for last perk being built-in was ridiculous.

It is a no-brainer why survivors find the game unfair and unfun.

Does this mean you're finally quitting, Sluz?

  • Killer was getting boring before the patch. This is trying to shake up the game, but it's still boring. There's only so many times you can loop killers/survivors before it gets old. YMMV sure, but everyones going to get bored of it at some point.

I'm gay. I came out at 13 but ended up still having sex with a woman when I was 18 (to "try it out"). I'm still gay, even if I was able to get "excited". Bodily functions are not something that can be consciously controlled and if someone is touching a dude in certain ways, he's going to get happy, regardless of what his brain is telling him. https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3077007#Comment_3077007

There's never any way of doing this that doesn't 'feel lame' for some people.

You can't say an existing character is gay because then it's a retcon, you can't introduce a brand new character and say they're gay because now it's tokenism and that's all that character exists for. There will always be something to find fault in.

Yet heterosexual characters never have any problems like this. You can introduce an opposite-sex partner for any character and nobody bats an eye. Which just goes to show that this representation is far from being unnecessary.

Until we can all go "hey that's neat, moving on" whenever a character is revealed to be anything other than heteronormative, then it doesn't matter how it's implemented, it needs to be implemented.

The very fact that months after the update this is still being debated, is just all kinds of disappointing.

I'm just quoting this for truth. Seriously, there will never be a time when it'll be ok for a character to be LGBT in a video game without people throwing hissy fits about it.

Three times out of the few matches played today I have actually lost due to one perk.

A reminder that NOED is a perk that rewards failure. The survivors did well completing the objective against impossible and unbearable odds only for someone to lose because the game gives the killer a petty kill.

    I wouldn't mind this perk if two conditions were true;

    1) The survivor objective was much easier to complete.

    2) Survivor had a similar perk.

It's not a good feeling to lose when the opponent played poorly but got rewarded for it. When the state of the game incredibly favors the killer, NOED needs a change now.

The game isn't over until you get out of that gate, Sluz. You haven't won just because you powered up 5 gens.

Until then, your survivor's life is forfeit!

  • I wonder if the devs consider NOED/bloodwarden plays as valid as they do tunneling and camping.

The game isn't over until you leave. Powering up 5 gens isn't the end of the game. You still have to power and get out of the gates. That's the end of the game. Anything that stops you from getting out is fair game, regardless of when the perk lights up.

These changes are based on the new intentions for the perk. Never once did I say in OP that these changes are to compensate for the new killer buffs. Reread my thread.

Your whole premise is "DS is a second chance perk therefore it must follow this made-up rule that it can only work once". That's been your entire sense of reasoning. I'm sure you haven't fully grasped the situation that the perk is in right now. DS could be bent for that "rule" because of its nerfs and limitations. DS does not have a good fighting chance in the upcoming patch and it looks like reckless tunneling could be done so much easier. It appears you're okay with that so I shouldn't really be engaging with you any further because I'm trying to propose really good ideas, not force people to change their minds.

I have well over 4600 hours with a good fair balance between both roles so I also know what I'm talking about.

I'd like to note that these changes wouldn't even make the perk busted or OP in any way, it'd just make the perk consistent for all players and really emphasize it's job.

    Still no.

Specifically - "That's been your entire sense of reasoning. I'm sure you haven't fully grasped the situation that the perk is in right now. DS could be bent for that "rule" because of its nerfs and limitations."

You say right here "could be bent", which means even you know there's not really any reason to do so other than "perk was nerfed too hard". That was the literal point.

  • @Mazoobi said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3060211#Comment_3060211

Ok then explain yourself because you really haven't been doing that.

Based on what you've been saying, a survivor who can't provide progress for the team shouldn't be able to punish killers multiple times who intentionally tunnel them despite there being ways to go around the perk... *news flash* just don't tunnel and DS is non-existent.

If you need help understanding my point, then read all of the others who agree with me because there's a lot of sense of reasoning for why we are demanding these changes.

I've already explained myself. Second chance perks are second chance. Not second and third chance.

I'm quite straightforward in this. Nothing you've said means that DS should be changed. The reason why the changes to killer are happening is because they needed to be buffed. There's nothing at all that says survivors need to be changed to be "compensated" because killers are being buffed. Just because you don't like that killers are getting stronger doesn't mean they have to do anything to survivors to change them.

The entire premise of your/these changes to DS is to make it more "fair" since killers get all these buffs. But you've not actually provided any reason other than "well killers get buffs so survivors should automatically get buffs". No. That's not how that works. Killers are getting buffed for a reason. That reason doesn't mean we then need to buff survivors. At all, in fact.

Oh and to be clear, I have well over 2200 hours, and the vast majority is survivor, not killer, tho I do have my killer faves. So this isn't some new rando killer main who's just whining. I know my #########.

In DS' case, it has enough reasons to work twice now. It's not because people want a free escape, it's because killers will know that those who used DS are easy tunneling targets. Once you stab the killer, they have no reason to go after the unhooker because the killer knows that the DS has been used thus being counterintuitive to its goal of being an anti-tunneling perk.

It's an avoidable perk unless you intentionally tunnel. A killer needs to put in the effort for DS to work anyway so they should always be affected by the perk even if its classified as a second chance perk.

    No it doesn't. Simple as.

It's a "second chance" perk that has enough deactivation conditions to warrant itself to be used twice. There are ways to circumvent DS so the killer is basically allowing survivors to have a second or third chance by intentionally tunneling.

That's not a good enough reason for it to be able to be used twice. Second chance perks aren't for third chances, even if the problem isn't you.

  • I like the first suggestion a lot, actually. Not a fan of the second at all. Second chance perks shouldn't give third chances.

  • Surv:

    Jonah

    David

    Jeff

Reason: they're hot - listed in order of hotness

    Killer:

Vommie Mommie - It's really fun to just puke on someone until they're about to fall over dead and then smacking them. It's just fun.

bird lady - I don't like-like her, but I'll occasionally hit her up to play sniper through walls. That one's always fun.

Legion - go fast, do crimes

Demo - it's demodoggy, that shred is fun.

As a fellow killer main, I really am not interested in that change.

Do you see a reason against it?

How will this help you not to camp? You don't need hook states to walk away from a hook lmao. It's not a needed change, if there's 3 of the same character using the same cosmetics that's on them.

This is the best answer below but also because it's not just on hook - you could see it throughout the game, so if I've forgotten that I downed Nea earlier (10 minutes into the match after I downed her in the first minute, forgetting who I've hooked so far) then I know not to get her again if she's on death hook.

I disagree that "it's on them". Sure, they could do differently, but I shouldn't be "penalized" (IE not being able to play the way I'd like, including sort of following the survivor playbook) because I've now hooked 7 people and I don't want to kill them.

So I'm not sure how the answer to your question isn't crystal clear. "How will this help you not camp?" Because I can literally see who's on what hook. Isn't that self-evident?

Well, you most likely don't need hook states to know that the person who just got unhooked was the last one on hook. If you wanna tunnel, you will do it no matter the GUI. But if you actually WANT to play according to the survivors playbook and evenly distribute, then it would be very helpful.

You know how sometimes survivors let someone slip into hook state 2, because they want to finish their gens? If you didn't notice you might off the poor sod just like that, without even meaning it.

  • I am so glad I'm not the only one who thinks this! I legit thought I was the only one.

Really remembering who you've hooked is like easiest part of the game, removing it will definitely not make anything worse.

It's easy IF they're not all the same X with the same skin on LOL Otherwise, I try to watch the UI to see which one is injured and go after the other, but my milage varies on that LOL

I think it's restricted to just perks currently in the shrine

Ah! Got it. That's too bad as I was hoping you could just, you know, buy the base versions of the perk you needed.

  • From their update:

    Shrine of Secrets

Unlike before, where The Shrine of Secrets would offer teachable perks that then needed to be found in Bloodwebs, the Shrine will now allow you to purchase perks directly. Purchasing a perk through the Shrine of Secrets will make the Tier 1 version of it immediately available on all Killers or Survivors, much like prestige. Subsequent Tiers of that perk will also begin appearing in Bloodwebs.

You may also purchase a perk again to increase its Tier. This works seamlessly with the prestige system, as purchasing a perk you’ve already unlocked through prestige will instead increase its Tier.

So the way I read this is, it'll be less annoying because you can buy whatever perk you're missing whenever (not just when it's in the shrine). I could be reading that wrong though.
