A dead zone is precisely where they get the most guaranteed value out of it. The killer either has to sink a comparatively huge amount of time to go there and snuff it, or simply not have pressure via injuring survivors for the entire game. It's a lose-lose situation.

I find the "just do bones" meme disingenuous for this circumstance. It's disrespectful and emblematic of how rude this game's playerbase is. It's so easy to be nice to one another, but people playing this game rarely choose to be.

Survivor mains being entitled? In MY DBD?

It's more likely than you think.

I suggest abandoning the mindset of causing damage and instead figuring out how to teach. It's a bunch of philosophical nonsense I described in that long winded novel I wrote earlier.

When it comes to companies (and, indeed, anything capitalistic in our society), the only way to teach or damage is through the wallet.

Unless there are other options I'm not aware of?

Money talks and bullsheet walks baby.

Is that how we right wrongs? By causing damage? Maybe I fail to understand the full frustration being felt, but I wouldn't call for a need to damage a company.

If the efforts here are a blip, then it wouldn't amount to damage anyways.

What's important is that BHVR has lessons to learn. Consumers cannot force a company to learn, only the company can choose to learn the lesson if they so choose. The best we can do is not to damage, but to teach this company to be more responsible by following through with an actual effort not to put any money into the company or it's IP's.

Due to how trendy this game has become, I'd find it challenging for this community to follow through with such a tremendous effort. It would require individual self control and willingness that I don't know the group really has as a whole. We are all human and we will have our moments of weakness.

If the consumers did stay strong, and they did follow through, the company would be faced with only a few options; learn their lesson, drop the product and work on new projects altogether, or not change anything at all and deteriorate

Even if this community could follow through, even if self control was properly demonstrated, could you handle watching bhvr or dbd deteriorate? It's not a pretty sight to watch something pass away, but that is exactly what all would need to be prepared for in order to teach such a company anything at all.

How exactly is it you think we can "cause damage"? The only way TO cause damage (and make them pay attention) is by hitting their wallet.

  • Didn't you also have to buy the Hag to get hex totems? Or Nemesis Pinhead to get scourge hooks?

This is no different than any other new element they've introduced to the game.

  • If the NFT situation makes 1 person stop and say "Huh. Maybe I should consider my carbon footprint and tone it down a bit", then the job has been done.

Nobody cares that you think we're all hypocrites for buying t-shirts. No one gives 2 sheets about your opinion on what should and shouldn't be done.

Your opinion is not only of little use to us, but little use anywhere. And that goes for anyone who doesn't give a damn about any environmental causes.

This is the world we're leaving YOUR* children. Act accordingly.

*I'm a homo, I have zero reason to care about what happens to your kids.

  • People are shocked that a capitalist company would do capitalistic things that are better for their bottom line then they are the environment.

It's not shocking, it happens all the time.

  • You assume they play their game at all. They balance around numbers they run rather than experience.

We should be able to escape as well....idc about the hatch/key nerf because i never bring keys anyways, but the amnt of complaints is crazy if you think boons are still too op maybe play something else?

Nah, I'm gonna keep complaining until they get nerfed. They're too powerful in their current form. EIther the totem needs to break when snuffed out or they should have tokens to determine how many times they can be used.

  • @SleepyWillo said:

I've seen so many posts in the past 24hours criticizing and calling for nerfs for the following:

    1. Boons are OP and need to be removed because everyone is using them
    2. Nobody is using the new perks or the old buffed perks and everyone is still running the old meta.

Which is it? It cant be both! And ofc some people want both nerfed (I get why you might want that) but it cant be both that everyone is using the new boons and that nobody is! Pick one!

I have yet to see a post about how no one is running the new perks. Every game I've been in, on either side, has had at least 2 people running the new perks.

This is the second time I've asked you to answer that question.

Oh, I did not take that into consideration as most people generally mean fish when they speak of sea life in regards to food. I definitely agree with you, sea plants should become more widespread in diets today. Seaweed is delicious! :)

Thank you! If you ever get a chance, try sea grapes. They are the funkiest things you can imagine!

I went and looked and I definitely understand why you thought I just meant fish - I apologize. I had terrible wording there. I should have said "overfarming". Derp LOL There are so many things we don't know about the ocean yet and I love that we're constantly discovering new stuff. Cheers! <3

  • I tried him on the PTB and the liftup and putdown animations are just too long. I'd be fine if it were one or the other, but with both, it's just a PITA. He's slow and clunky, IMO. • @UnicornToots said:

Most of the plants we grow are fed directly to the animals that we eat. If we ate plants directly, we would be able to grow fewer plants, leading to less C02 from farm equipment.

The ethics of eating fish aside, there is no way of fishing sustainably with how high the demand for fish is.

Plant-based diets are by far the most sustainable diet.

Very valid points, except the fish part - when I'm talking about sealife, I'm not just talking about fish or things that swim. Keep in mind that much of the vegetation in the sea is edible. Seaweed, as an example, is farmable. Spirulina, Watercress, Arame, sea grapes are all edible plants that can be found in the sea. And that's in the sea. There are also freshwater plants that are edible too.

just a random aside, what powers the grid that charges the cars at night when solar isn't an option and wind dies down

aha, imagine if nuclear wasn't sabotaged~

Yeah but let's be honest, burps aren't as funny as farts XD But you're absolutely correct, both the farming it takes to feed the cows, plus the various ######### (no pun intended) in their stomachs contributes more than the flatulence.

Also, I am a raging liberal, but I agree with you - nuclear is one of the cleanest, massive sources of energy, that would solve MUCH of our issues.

And lastly, you're leaving out hydro power, which is fast coming up as another energy source. They've now made water turbines that are small enough to be put beside a river and can power multiple (not a lot, mind you) houses. The technology is growing leaps and bounds.

Hope all of you who are outraged over this are eating plant-based diets or you are hypocrites. Not eating animals or their secretions is the best thing you can do for the environment.

This is correct and incorrect at the same time.

Beef, specifically, is one of the worst offenders for the planet, thanks to all the cow farts. Chickens have far less of a carbon footprint as an example.

And then you're ignoring how CO2 emissions from things like equipment to do that farming as well. The only truly "sustainable" source of nutrients are sealife, provided we don't overfish them. And even then, that depends on the types of boats that are used to do said fishing, which in and of themselves can be pollutants.

  • @kermit_snacc_choke said:

Right, so we've all heard of the NFT situation. And we know that production of NFT's incur killing off rainforests and animals within and stuff like that. But there is so much more to it than just chopping down trees.

When our trees are chopped, not only are they not able to absorb CO2 anymore, but they also release all of their stored CO2 within, which can be millions of tonnes.

Our Earth as a whole has a maximum allowance of 2 degrees celsius surplus global temperature increase, because if we go above that we are basically ######### as humanity. We have ALREADY EXCEEDED ONE DEGREES CELSIUS SURPLUS. Along with the existing increase of Carbon dioxide and other warming gasses in the atmosphere, this has a lag time of 0.6 degrees celsius surplus, so whatever we keep producing will also have 0.6 added on afterwards. This only gives us a very tiny wiggle room of 0.4 degrees celsius surplus to sort out crap out.

And clearly companies like BHVR contribute to this issue, so in conclusion, screw them. If you support this heinous act all for a skin and voicelines then you need to evaluate your morals.

    No ifs and buts.

I am currently in college with my major being Sustainability and Environmental Studies. Since 1990, our overall warming rate has almost doubled from what it was for the previous years we'd kept track. ( https://climate.nasa.gov/vital-signs/global-temperature/ )

The Billions of hectares (1 hectare = roughly 2.4 acres) of forests that have been cut down in almost ALL countries is astronomical. This just speeds that up even more.

We are destroying our planet. And at this point, we're getting very close to a no-turning-back situation. If we continue the way we are, the estimate is that the earth will be uninhabitable by 2100.

  • People who are trying to be like "Oh BHVR wouldn't do this if it weren't for the license!" Yeah BS. Companies are companies. You wave $ around, they take $. It's as simple as that.

Boss Protocol waved a whole lot of money under their and the rightsholders noses and they all took it.

    No one is innocent here.

  • ....Currently there are approximately 764K players in Overwatch. The average monthly players for the year has bounced between 6M-7M per month per activeplayer.io .

The last 24 hour peak for DBD is 53K per steamcharts. They hit 100K concurrent player count back in June and have struggled to retain the numbers.

Overwatch is still bigger than Dead by Daylight by quite a margin, and that's from what y'all call a "dead game". BHVR could only hope their dead game wouldn't drop below 6M players/month LOL

Tbf, Overwatch actually is dead. And Activision only has themselves to blame with regard to completely stopping all content drops for a live service game that was already beginning to struggle to retain players thanks to incredibly whacky balance, for years.

I just wanted to say, I wait more time for a game in DBD then I do in OW. I'm pretty sure OW is still the bigger game between the two.

I think it's been the final nail in the coffin for me, combined with a few other elements.

I just have no desire to play anymore really, and when I think about it, my mind immediately cringes (this is just turning into a small vent now).

The new matchmaking has made my games more consistent, and to some people this is good, but to me it just re-enforces the repetitive aspect of the game. I'll either get Survivors that clearly don't know how they should be playing, or a hardcore squad of Survivors who just make the game...not fun to play.

    It's just repetitive repetitive repetitive.

The meta is stale, the balancing and the time it takes to do it is questionable, the monetisation of the game is gross and the lack of efforts in key events is noticeable. New content isn't doing much for me anymore (and Pinhead was my most desired Killer).

SBMM has made things more same-ey from game to game and it just isn't that fun anymore.

I'm sinking my time into the Final Fantasy pixel remasters and I'm having a blast so far. I've played FF14 since 2013 and ever since I joined DBD in 2017, FF14 became more of a side game in favour of DBD. Looks like I'm transitioning back over and looking towards brighter horizons.

DBD just isn't fun for me anymore.

Also this. Including but not limited to the FF remasters. I still have an active sub to FF14 but I haven't logged in, in a while. FF4 is one of my fave games of all time and replaying it has been great.

SBMM has made the game unfun. Completely. And even streamers are getting tired of it. Dowsey has had to take a break because of it. I don't blame him.

From what I understood Boss Team Games and Boss Protocol ARE NOT related. the latter just stole the former's logo to appear legitimate.

I took most of that info from their FAQ

Is Boss Protocol related to Boss Team Games?

Boss Protocol and Boss Team Games are completely different companies but do work closely together (and share a logo!). Boss Team Games is a games publisher and Boss Protocol is focused on creating NFTs that provide additional access to content and other redemptions. There are multiple reasons it was set up this way (licensing and other) but there should be no confusion that the two companies share an address and some common goals.

There's actually nothing that indicates that they are separate, and with the same person working for all 3, I have a hard time believing one "stole" from the other.

Ah, I sincerely sorry for lashing out at you! It's sometimes hard to separate general agreement with sarcasm. I am so sorry, it can get difficult.

While it does seem like they are complacent, it's really out of their control. I can't blame them for the response that they give, that's pretty much all they can say. The license holders truly held Bhvr by the neck with these agreements and Bhvr gets thrown under the bus because of it

All good! Trust me, I get it. Just by discussing these NFTs and trying to make factual statements, people think I'm defending NFTs. I'm not, they're horrible for the environment. I just know how companies work. I agree with you 100% here as well. <3

  • @MeltingPenguins said:

Not to make any accusations, but:

Would anyone be genuinely surprised if the 'company' that made that crap turns out to be run by the current license holders to milk as much money out of the license while they still have it?

And if that is the case, wouldn't that be money laundering and taxevasion? I don't think they are rich enough to not be on the, what is it, IRS? radar?

The people making the NFT are the same people that make the Evil Dead game, and a few other things. Tim Hesse works for both Boss Protocol, Boss Team Games, and also Diversion3, which was involved in making the F13 game. Take from that information what you will.

  • @Mr_K said:

BHVR more than likely signed what they could to get the license. By their statement it seems to be the case.

The fact this NFT advertisement used Dead by Daylight by name is an issue BHVR didn't address.

I kind of think they get kickbacks but I have no proof of that other than them not disavowing it. If I were BHVR, I'd tell them I want kickbacks LOL If I can't stop them from using my work, might as well get a buck out of it.

I also think that a company is a company. All companies are out to make profit, so I guess it just surprises me that anyone would think BHVR wouldn't be involved. They want profit just as much as any other company, especially one that's gotten as big as BHVR has, AND has shown they care more about profits for the most part than their game.

  • @Mr_K said:

For example, could the Stranger Things license holders be able to use those assets in their own games?

    Short answer, yes.

Demo, Nancy, Steve models (likeness) are the property of the IP owner. BHVR cannot own that property. It is instead licensed to them by the owner.

I only half believe that. Having worked in companies and knowing how companies are protective about their work, even licensed, I would be surprised by any company allowing their work being used in other ways unless they were getting kickbacks from it.

Even if you create a derivative work, that work is still yours, by copyright laws. You share those rights with the original owner of the IP. So BHVR has the right to say what happens to their works, based on copyright laws and can (and other companies HAVE) sue because they don't want their work (even derivative) to be used for purposes that would shed a bad light on the company.

As a derivative work, based on copyright law, BHVR has the right to authorize or deny the use of their work in other places. They must allow in their contract that these works can be used elsewhere. Unless they are completely braindead to how copyright law works.

I don't think BHVR is shady here, but I also don't think BHVR is disapproving of their work being used this way.

Edit - to see what I mean when I talk about derivative work, look up Cariou V Prince, or look up Richard Price Instagram. These aren't the exact same as this, but they show how, if someone creates a derivative work, they retain the copyright to that derivative work along with the original IP holder.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2560772#Comment_2560772

Wait. So you're saying that my logic necessarily doesn't make sense, ignore the point where if Bhvr continues to ignore the fraudulent leech it will cause more damage, then say the exact same thing about how it can be very ugly for Bhvr if someone else used their assets for this exact purpose?

Now yes, no company would invest in something they don't believe in, but being silent about it isn't helping either. There are people falling for this and some of them believe that it is a partner with Bhvr, are we gonna just ignore them and let them drown which could cause more issues?

I was completely agreeing with what you said in every aspect. I'm not sure how you can take what I said otherwise, but no, I completely agree with you. My point was to say that the die-hard fans will apologize or explain away for BHVR no matter what happens and they will not listen to your logic. That's all.

The fact that their models are being used however license holders want and BHVR allows that in their contracts says that BHVR is at least accepting of the situation. I find it very hard to understand why any company would allow their work, even if licensed from another entity (no pun intended), to be used for things that could be viewed as ethically wrong. It slightly stuns me to be honest. If nothing else, you'd think they'd have a clause that would require them to have a say in how the models are used. That also begs the question, is that true for all of their (licensed) models. For example, could the Stranger Things license holders be able to use those assets in their own games?

  • @DwarvenTavern said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2560071#Comment_2560071

Bhvr's actual assets being used. You know, their actual model and name being used. Again, sure, Boss Protical said they were not working with Bhvr, but they did say they are working with the company that is working on the Ash vs Evil dead game and actually GUN media, which is the same company that made Friday the 13th.

Now, if you were a gaming company and I stole your assets and kept making NFTs solely based around them, what would you do? Ignore me? That's fine, I have no reason to stop then, I'll just keep doing it and doing it. While you know it's not real, not everyone does so I'll be making a profit off of them and while I'm hurting them.

They didn't know YOU didn't work with them and they were essentially just robbed and they may take it out on YOU because YOU didn't say anything.

That's why I made this post, if we can have a definitive answer we can hopefully avoid that situation completely, otherwise Bhvr can be hurt by this and might cause other licenses to become very finicky at the idea of partnering with them

Your logic will never get past the know-it-alls. No company, and I mean no company, would ever turn over their assets to be used for something they do not believe in. That would be allowing someone else to use their assets with as they pleased, which could potentially be very ugly for BHVR.

I think the silence says it all, but I know the fanboys won't believe that.

  • If I down a survivor and I see another one, I'm going after them, leaving the first on the ground. If I see a third trying to heal the first after I've downed the second, I'm going after the third and leaving the first two on the ground. Same with a fourth.

I slug because they make me slug. If you don't want me to slug, don't try to heal and get your teammates up. By getting your teammates up, you're stopping me from getting hooks. And if you're stopping me from getting hooks, that just pisses me off. LOL

Survivor is already cakewalk-y if I go meta, so I'm not worried about if I get slugged.

What they're actually saying is "You only get the Chatterer if you buy this", which is a blatantly false claim.

I wanted to throw something out there. Everyone reads their roadmap and thinks that the Chatterer skin is included... in Dead by Daylight. A lot of assumptions are being made when reading the verbiage, but it mentions nowhere that the Chatterer skin is only in DBD. My guess is, they're going to add The Chatterer as another NFT you can own, along with Butterball. The only line that references DBD is "...Legendary NFTs that include access to in-game Hellraiser content in the hit video game Dead by Daylight for PC!"

Another point is, if you look at the Lament Configuration point, it says you'll be getting a "bonus NFT" of the Configuration itself.

I think people are reading into their verbiage (not unfairly, it's worded terribly) something that isn't ultimately there.

Edit - even the heading for the DBD part is only under Pinhead. It doesn't even say you'll get the Chatterer skin in Dead by Daylight. It's for those "who own the box". What box? The NFT itself is a Pinhead NFT, it's not of the Lament Configuration.

Well, you could say it is funny, because the rights to the Hellraiser franchise belongs to Clive Barker since 2020 (and maybe his company, if he has one).

So I can bravely say: The "not talking" about it is bullshit, or BHVR is really bad in making contracts.

Explain me: If it is stated, that Pinheads voice cant be used, why adding them in the PTB.

I think, Clive told BHVR to remove the voice, and BHVR followed his order like a dog. They did the same to Demo/stranger things...

    Just my opinion...

This is a bit incorrect, the rights to Hellraiser revert back to Mr Barker in December of this year, coincidentally, on my birthday.

  • I don't think the game is dying but I personally have started seeing my own interest dwindle. Previous, I was excited to play, both killer and survivor. But I started losing interest in killer right after MMR when I was matched with constant sweaty people who could and would outrun me while their friends would pop the gens in record time. Oddly, as survivor, my experience was the opposite, where I could outrun the killer over and over again, sometimes for 5 gens LOL I'm also extremely altruistic so I normally die because I'm trying to get other people out (which is why I think I'm able to outrun killers frequently). Because of all this, survivor has also gotten boring.

After playing on the PTB as both killer and surv with the boon totems, now I've lost all interest as killer. Knowing that if they run me to a circle and their scratch marks can disappear, giving me yet another objective to have to deal with (putting out totems, and constantly having to put out totems because someone can just run right back to that totem and reapply the boon), I just don't care anymore.

This is only my 2 cents, this is not indicative of the game dying. It's just been dying for me. It's just not fun anymore. And before I get a "get gud", I feel I've hit my skill ceiling because I'm not good. I'm not a good player. I'm average at best.

So, again, not lag or the servers at all, but the mistake of people who dont know what theyre talking about? Thats your case here? lol

And you wonder why they dont take you seriously.

The servers are fine. Until you can prove otherwise, you have no case, and the irony that you give a good reason (they are confused about hdd) to ignore people claiming they got “lag” is really funny.

Sorry, who doesn't take me seriously? Who is this your referring to?

I don't need to prove otherwise - the dev announcement makes my case for me. And I'm not saying they're confused - again, HDD skipping/issues can cause what looks like lag spikes. Hence why they're investigating it.

You still have no proof that the servers are fine. You have nothing but your word that it's fine to back you up - yet the forums are filled with people who state otherwise.

Sounds like you're just mad you can't back up your statements to me.

    LOL couple things.

You DO know what HDD stands for right? Hard Disk Drive. this has zero to do with lag or the servers.

Yikes. You literally are just “looking for excuses” to blame your losses on. Dont worry, its common around here.

The problem here is, those performance issues on HDDs can cause skipping, which looks like lag. So yeah. Sorry, you still have no proof that there is nothing wrong, with many, many reports to the contrary.

You've yet to disprove these people wrong.

on the contrary, its up to the prosecution to prove their case that there is lag. this is called “burden of proof.”

There are many, many witnesses that state that there is lag. So much so, that there is a statement by the devs on the front of the forums that states, and I quote, "We're currently investigating a HDD issue that is affecting console performance and hope to have that included.".

It appears sir, there is evidence to back up their statements, and none to back up yours.

The lag is fine. This is provable. You have no case. gg

If it's provable, then disprove all the people here. Your anecdotal experience means nothing.

  • I hate playing without Spine Chill. I consider it my "crutch" perk. It's so damn helpful for doing a gen. LOL

Both the servers and the framerate are fine.

Personally, I find the “something else is to blame for my failures” crowd to be quite embarrassing.

I have a less-than-1-month-old PC, with an RTX 3090, 32G ram. I have FTTH. I still get hitches.

Your attitude is embarrassing, not the rest of the people here.

BHVR said that they will from now on only focus on two events: Anniversary and Halloween. Yet so far this Anniversary event is no different than last year's event. Please tell me there's more to this event then simply cakes and crowns. Is anything going to actually be added to the game?

BHVR, you said you want these events to feel special, so please tell me you have more tricks up your sleeve then simply free shards and a 24-hour recycling of the shrine.🤞

Yeah I'm about a year and about 1200 hours into the game. This is the most disappointed I've been. It's a sad event. I probably won't stick around for the next one.

Considering he did it again... that was most likely a bug

    Yamoaka's or Autohaven I assume?

It felt far too deliberate for it to be a bug. He stopped and watched me, crouched, and did it again. It was on The Game.

Didn’t have to ruin the game for everyone else, should’ve just recorded what he did and reported him.

The other 3 escaped because I felt bad they had a hacker. Not sure how I ruined it for the rest.

  • I had one last week where a David ran to a window, made the loud noise but didn't actually go through. I stopped and stared at him crouching against the window *and he did it again in front of me, this time*. I immediately went after him, downed him and facecamped him. I wasn't playing with that. I've started playing a lot less killer because it's unfun af to go against people who are hacking, esp speed hacking.

  • That 5th "candle" doesn't even go through/over 2 of the 4 standing candles. That's not a damn candle, man. LOL
