  • My counter is why should survivor be "fun," but killer be "challenging"? Why can't both be fun? The primary problem with this game is people take it too seriously. Even post-patch (which might have been killer sided but was that a bad thing? I don't think so), I escape around 60% of the time. Close to 2 out of every three matches. It might be even higher if my teammates stopped letting themselves die on the first hook. And to be clear, I do not play even near perfect. I suck at looping. If a killer finds me, they will down me pretty quickly. Even so, I play with no stress and a decent escape percentage. I don't know why so many seek to deny the same for killers.

  • So you're saying to be good at killer all someone has to do is play this game 8-12 hours a day, 5-7 days a week, for 6 years? That's it? If people only knew!

  • It's a mix of actually DCing and just straight up dying on the hook. Shooting through stage 1 and then just dying in the final stage before anyone can save them. I do not doubt that the majority of them are absolutely malicious.

  • All I know is that when it was awful to play killer, they were told to "git gud" and to suck it up. Now it's all about "Oh, gotta keep player fun factor in mind!" Just admit you don't care about other people's experiences and just want to feel good by stomping people and being toxic in the endgame.

  • Doing gens is extremely boring. I think most of the mechanics in this game are boring(it amounts to either sitting in one place holding a button or running around in circles). The changes they made are nice all around, but I'd like to see some more goal-driven mechanics in the game.

  • Just waiting or midnight to be able to play. This may be the first game to come around that might actually cut into the DbD playerbase. Between this and the Ghostbusters game coming out later this year might we see DbD fall as king of the asymmetrical horror mountain?

  • Personally I'd like to see hex perks buffed instead of boon perks nerfed. Balance by bringing powers up instead of others down.

  • I don't think he is. I think BHVR is flat out lying and just doing whatever they want. I hardly ever see anyone playing Pinhead. When I do it's almost always a 4k escape. There is no chance that he is "over performing".

  • I don't think they play the game at all.

  • Boon: Vengeance

Survivors who have been hooked at least once and are within the Boon Totem's range benefit from the following effect:

    • The next time they stun the killer, the killer is instead put into the Prone state.

Prone: While prone a killer may be picked up by a survivor and placed on a hook. The killer must succeed at a difficult skill check to escape the hook.

  • I actually don't want the game "balanced". At least from a competitive standpoint. This is what I want from both roles...

Survivor: I want to enjoy a tense and dramatic game where I legit fear for the safety of my character. I'm looking for a horror exprience from the experience of a victim. The killer being near me should send chills up my spine. Surviving should be exilerating and satisfying.

Killer: I want to feel like a predator. Hunting, stalking, killing. Survivors should know that any interaction with me could result in the end of their game.

Both Roles: You should have a sense of accomplishment regardless of what role you play. You currently get this quite a bit as survivor(there's almost nothing you do that can be undone). The experience should be fulfilling regardless of you escaping, dying, or getting X kills.

This isn't a competitive game and it shouldn't pretend to be. It should be fun and scary and tense. Right now it's not really any of those things.

Just wanted to point out, that there are humans controlling those characters. The actions taken behind an avatar have the same impact as words spoken behind an alias.

I disagree. Having a character squat and stand several times in front of someone is not nearly as bad as wishing cancer on their mother in end-game chat, IMO. To each their own, however.

Well maybe you should try to read before commenting, because not once did I say it impacted me, what I was saying was that it needs to stop.

Let me put it in simple terms. toxicity breads toxicity. Some survivor plays the game and the killer is toxic, they feel the need to be toxic back, not just in that game but the next, so the next killer feels like they should be toxic, until it is too much and people, as you say, stop playing DBD, just have they have with other games, where people started getting toxic and then people left, then because there was less players, less people buying DLC and skins, servers was shut down and the games died.

Well I like playing DBD, I don't let it impact me negative because I have seen things in this world that would give you nightmares, which is why I don't want the game to end because of the few idiots and the ones that come on here and try to defend it.

But feel free to have your own opinion. I will have mine because I have seen too many games die because of idiots.

Despite your self-proclaimed life of abject horror and misery, you're showing how much it impacts you by posting on this board. Take a break, dude. You clearly need it for your mental health. Good luck and I hope things get better for you.

The character animations are controlled. They are not AI, so somebody is there with a controller or mouse and keyboard playing that character. The character becomes and extension of the person, so by definition, if the character is being toxic and the character is controlled, then the person playing is being toxic, but that is a different argument.

When somebody then comes on the end chat and starts calling a team every swear word because they was beat, then that is toxic.

Now I don't really care what is said, it is words on the screen and what they do in the game is in the game, but firstly, these are the same people who slate survivors for tea bagging and saying they are toxic, secondly it gives a lot of killers who proxy camp a bad name and increases the toxicity all round. If people saw it as a game, which is what it is, then people could just have fun, after all if you get hit in the game, it does not physically hurt in real life. If you are beat then you are beat, move on to the next game and try harder.

By the way, I am writing this while being camped and hit by a killer, because we have done gens.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Getting hit by a killer while you're hooked may not be fun but I don't see it as toxic.

Telling someone to die in endgame chat is toxic. I see it as an entirely different thing.

If this sort of behavior impacts you so negatively it might be best you stop playing DbD, however.

  • Nothing that happens in-game is toxic. Tea bagging, camping, hook disabling, hitting a hooked survivor, whatever. That's not toxic. You may not like it but it's not toxic. It's just little animations on a screen doing stuff.

Toxic is what happens in end game chat or post-game messages where one human says to another human "Get cancer" or some such. What our characters do to each other on a computer game is meaningless. What we do to each other as human beings is what matters.

  • I pretty much main survivor nowadays because playing killer sucks. I main Mikaela and run a healing/shadow step build and I think the combo is crazy powerful. 14 seconds to bless a dull totem isn't much at all and the fact that my scratch marks are hidden in the boon area is crazy powerful. I don't even know how you'd balance that. The healing helps a lot too, especially if you get someone else to heal you, but the lack of auras and scratch marks? I can't count the amount of chases I've won because of it.

  • You can't trust anything BHVR says to be honest. They say one thing and then do the exact opposite. When they reworked the maps they not only loaded them with pallets they made sure as many of them as possible were safe and able to be looped infinitely forcing the killer to break the pallet. It's just one more reason why killer is by no means the power role in this game. Survivors run the show. Full stop.

Survivors rarely care for the fun of the killers and just want everyone out, why should the killers concede a win to one of the four players in the match, given that survivors when facing and succeding over a killer using measures that they consider scummy will always teabag in the exit gate and bad manner the killer any occassion given.

You want to escape if possible all 4 of you, that's why almost always nobody starts egc unless everyone is safe as survivor and that's why killers are entitled for a sweaty endgame slug to avoid hatch searching/door rotating during egc.

You fail to miss the point of my post entirely. And, for the record, I play survivor solo queue and I never 99% the gates. Unless the killer stops me, if I get to the gate, I'm opening it and leaving. Probably doesn't make me very popular with other survivors but I'm not throwing away those escape BPs for anyone.

I mean i could say the exact same thing to survivors who stay until egc timer runs out to try and t bag at the gate

You could. Has nothing to do with this post. But you could.

  • @Mister_Holdout said:

I usually only do that when I need my 4th BBQ stack. But even then, I try not to leave the slugged survivor on the ground for more than a minute or so.

That I get. It's not for fun though, it's for strategy. I've been experiencing a lot of, what I call, pointless slugging when I play survivor lately. Like the type of slugging that is only done for the killer to show me that "they got me" or something. When, in reality, I'm just taking my headset off and going to the bathroom or whatever while they enjoy whatever mastabutory fantasies they're going through.

And, yes, survivors can do the same but that's not what I'm talking about. Though you could turn this entire thread into "Why endure boring gameplay, for no strategic reason, when you could just end the game and move on?"

And you made that clear in your og post where?

At this point it doesn't even matter how your trial was since you could add any circumstances to fit your narrative.

And yes he answered you any strategic point for letting the last survivor bleed out right here.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2576111#Comment_2576111

Survivor dropped with wiggle progress, no hook close by, survivor crawled to a hook dead zone and so on.

But at this point in the discussion i guess you are simply looking for confirmation that "killer are so toxic".

You just keep putting words in people's mouths. It must be rough to not be able to answer any question with an actual intelligent response. I feel for sorry for you. :(

Maybe that's what this was? Not sure what I would have done to irritate him though. I don't tea bag, I didn't have a flashlight, and I suck at looping so it's not like I ran him around the map pallet stunning him all day. LOL Whatever. I just don't get it is all.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2576117#Comment_2576117

I did. If you don't like being slugged and bled out. Don't crawl to the edge of the map where I can't get you to a hook. Don't wiggle if I pick you up. Crawl to a hook and let me hook you to be out of the game. But don't crawl somewhere you know you can wiggle. Then expect not to be bled out

LOL I was literally right next to a hook. I was ready to end the game. Keep going though. You're on an incredible roll of being totally wrong. :)

  • @Clevite said:

I think it may have to do with the experience level of the killer.

For newer Killers, it is indeed fun and important to get 4ks.

For those of us that have 4kd countless times and dabble in survivor enough to know how unfun it feels, probably not so much anymore.

Thing is, I'm not even talking about the survivor experience. When I play killer and I slug it's to wait out DS or whatever and it's boring AF. I cannot imagine doing it for LOLs when the survivor is right next to a hook, there's no chance for DS, and just hooking the survivor kills them. Just standing there for a minute or whatever staring at the ground and puking on them. I just don't get it from a killer standpoint(working under the assumption there is no DS, no chance of escape, whatever).

  • @BrokenSouI said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2576104#Comment_2576104

Because I know youkk wiggle off ? Because I can't make it to a hook ? Because I don't want to chase you again to down you ? You're not entitled to an escape. If the means of which I kill you is by bleed out. Then so be it

Doesn't answer the question at all but thanks for playing. Feel free to going back to your toxic gameplay. LOL

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/288463/slugging-for-the-4k

if youre the mikela I dropped to get the others and ensure a min 3k... if I picked you up again you'd have wiggled off and likely made it to the gate before I could catch up. Or unhooked the other 2. Why risk it?

Different game. In this particular instance a Plague downed a Meg then went looking for me. I got caught healing the Meg, who got downed again immediately, they chased me around, downed me, then just stood there. Watching. Eventually the Meg DCd and I bled out on the ground.

  • @Tower_XVI said:

I don't get it. Is waiting at the doors to teabag that important to you? I think that's bad enough but what is with survivors who wait around after the game is clearly over just to press ctrl a couple times at the gate? Why? What's the point? How is that fun for you? Standing there for however long while the EGC ticks away?

    I do no get it.

I'm not trying to insult you just make a point, there a moments where people's feelings from previous matches may infect the the current. You could catch a teammate's grief or even last games. The game is rife for bullying, if you find it getting to you, you might want to switch sides or take a break.

Who said I tea bag at the gates? If I'm at the gates it's because I'm running through them. And who said things are "getting to me"? LOL You've resonded to nothing I've said. Good job creating your own straw man post to react to?

I asked a very simple question; how is it fun to stand there, doing nothing, while a survivor bleeds out? I then said, I do not get it.

  • Maybe only on certain platforms?

  • But...none of them took any boon totems...By that logic, look how broken noed is by that screenshot! OMG!

  • Been playing a lot of Mikaela and using boons. They are powerful for sure, that 100% healing and no scatch marks/auras is crazy strong, but the downsides are pretty big too. 1) Finding a totem and 2) the blessing time.

I don't think they should be a one time use thing, however. These are the changes I'd like to see(as someone who plays both killer and survivor)

    1) Killers should now have the ability to break dull totems.

    2) Hex Perks should automatically respawn on a dull totem(if one is available) after 90 seconds or something.

I think this brings some balance with hex perks and makes them much more viable while also giving the killer an option of limiting the effectiveness of boon totems.

  • Because, by and large, hacking impacts killers negatively and BHVR has shown, time and time again, that killers can suck it.

  • If I'm being honest, I think gens are just a bad mechanic. I don't see how they're exciting for anyone(killer or survivor). Sitting there for 80 seconds hitting a button every now and again? Wow. Rivoting gameplay. They're just a means of keeping survivors in certain locations so the killer can find them. Watering holes for the gazelles. They wait there till they're found then run in circles till they escape or are downed. Wow.

The game needs a complete overhaul to make things exciting for both killers and survivors.

  • Tunneling is just an excuse for bad survivors. Don't be found so easily. Learn to be even a little stealthy.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2563604#Comment_2563604

The idea behind the suggestion is to make a survivor loss/death less frustrating so they'll be more interested in playing the game. This is not about entitlement. If you knew me at all you would know I am the complete opposite of the entitlement mentality. Survivor deaths in my experience and that of people I know that play the game are often very frustrating and unfair. If killers want to keep their addons for failing to get a kill then that is fine too. Even still they probably got more use out of their addons than a survivor did with their item that was eliminated early.

I can agree that losing in this game is generally unfun for both sides. That comes back to the game play which I find to be largely unfulfilling. I don't think that keeping an unused item would do much to make up for that.

  • @KateMain86 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2562883#Comment_2562883

Again, talk to me when you have something substantive to say on the matter. You assume way too much. It doesn't matter when I die. The ONLY thing I am suggesting here is that an UNUSED (remember to look at that word and consider it next time you reply to me) item not be lost on death. I bought the item with points I earned in matches. Having merely the chance to get to use it is not enough. Maybe if the game didn't have so many toxic killers I wouldn't see this as a problem. And why do you even care to argue with me on this? Why do you have a problem with it? This does absolutely nothing to you or killer mains. If a survivor doesn't lose their item they didn't get to use so what? Its like you have a problem not being able to cause more misery to survivors and get some kinda strange satisfaction knowing you also deleted their item too. This suggestion is not that big a deal.

You don't seem to understand the idea of risk and reward. You're clearly blinded by pure entitlement. You don't get to keep it because you died. You lost. Not only that but you played so poorly that you didn't use whatever the item was. You do not deserve to keep it. You risked the item by bringing it into the match. You lost. Losing has consequences.

  • I've pretty much become a survivor main now. The matches are just unfun ad a killer.

  • Lol Comms aren't a problem he says.

Not that comms are bad they just give a crazy strong advantage to SWFs. The game isn't balanced for comms and its ridiculous.

  • Doesn't even need to be a hatch. Just have a hole show up at some random place on each map that survivors can jump into at any time.

And why do gens regress if a killer kicks it? Should just be a flat 1% regression and that's it. I'm tired of my hard work being wiped out because bhvr loves to coddle killers.

And humans heal naturally. Survivors should automatically recover from an injured health state 10 seconds after a chase ends.

Can we finally give survivors something?!

  • @KateMain86 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2562875#Comment_2562875

Right... because me wanting to keep an UNUSED item I paid for with points I earned is me being "entitled." Talk to me when you have something substantive and interesting to say about this.

It's called risk and reward. You risk the item by bringing it into the match. What's next? Well, I only used half of it so I should still get to keep the other half of a charge! How about this, get good? That's what everyone tells killer mains when they talk about something. Stop being the lowest hanging fruit and dying early. Your team will thank you for it.

  • Survivors are so used to be rewarded for every little thing that their sense of entitlement is beginning to know no bounds.

  • @Munqaxus said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/287054/rip-bbq-rip-injured-survivor

Killers only use BBQ for blood-points anyway, at least that's what all the Killers say when someone suggests nerfing it.

I wish they would incorporate the BP bonus into the base kit for killer(and do an equivalent thing for survivors) so I can stop taking BBQ. Literally the only reason I take it is because I think 'Half BPs for a game? No way, I can't do that.'

  • They're hard to hit, easy to break, and prevent the survivor from doing nothing. If they were more difficult to break I could live with the ridiculous difficulty of hitting them. As it is now? The risk is just not worth the reward. At all.

  • @Firellius said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2544857#Comment_2544857

There is nothing reasonable about the suggestion to have RNG dictate wether you survive or just get downed for free. At that point, the game stops being about survival and just becomes a stealth game, since survivors would have no hope once spotted.

I bet you have no problems with Kobe's though... :)

  • I wish the game borrowed from the Friday the 13th mentality and gave Survivors different types of stats. Stamina(can't sprint forever), intellect(different survivors get different sized skill checks with different frequencies), agility(not all survivors vault at the same speeds or efficiencies), etc. Give me a reason to play Survivor X aside from it being the skin I like the best.

  • Lots of rules for killers to go by if they want a win.

  • For survivor play, I'd just like to see things be more suspenseful. Right now I worry about very little when I play survivor. I'd like to see more risk/reward situations.

Maybe suffer from being exposed while saboing a hook or using a flashlight. I do it right, I get a benefit. I screw it up? I go down.

I would love for there to be some sort of risk/reward with vaulting pallets. Either through a perk or just general play. I'd like there to be a chance that when I vault a pallet for it to break and for me to suffer a wound level or something. Back when I played Friday the 13th one of the tensest moments was jumping through a window and wondering just how injured but it I was going to be.

That's why survivor is unfun for me to play, there's just no tension. No suspense. The killer has a giant red flashlight on his chest, so I always know when he's coming. I can screw up a vault and still be fine because I can immediately vault again. Missing skill checks isn't a big deal when I do miss them.

  • For me, as a killer, fun doesn't equal kills. It means playing and feeling like I'm accomplishing something. There's a lot in this game that just negates everything a killer does. As a killer you often feel impotent and that's not fun. You take a hex, it's broken before even you know where it is. You down a survivor in a chase and any one of a number of things happen; flashlight blind, hook sabo, endless body blocking, etc. Individually these things aren't so bad but when they are piled on repeatedly in a single game and this happens game after game? I can see why so many players are switching from killer to the survivor role.

  • I spent all day yesterday watching various streamers on Twitch. My goal was to find those who were playing killer and just see what kind of an experience they were having. These were my observations.

    1) Finding streamers that main killers is hard.

    2) Those who did play killer never had more than 1 or 2 "good" games in a row but often had large strings of games where they got stomped.

    3) Almost all of them, at some point, said "Well, I'm done with this. It's survivor for the rest of the night for me."

    4) I can think of 4 or 5 off the top of my head that just abruptly ended their streams after a series of brutal killer games.

    5) Not one streamer playing survivor had any of these reactions from their survivor experiences.

These experiences came from streamers of all audience sizes, experience, and exposure levels("popularity"). This isn't an instance of a handful of people that need to "get good". The game is in a rough spot for killers right now and it's actually pushing people away from the role.

I don't blame survivors for this, they're just playing the roles they're given. This is entirely on BHVR. I also firmly believe that after 5 years of development that the game is playing exactly the way they want it to be.

This belief is further cemented by the string of mediocre killer releases, uncalled for killer nerfs(Deathslinger? Really?), coming down on the few killers that actually do well(Spirit), and the introduction of Boon Totems. I firmly believe that the experience killers are having is the experience BHVR wants them to have. For whatever reason.

I don't know what the answer is but I think it's obvious, to those who want to look at the situation objectively, that killers are in a bad spot at the moment. Anecdotal "I do just fine" experiences aside, what I saw yesterday speaks to an actual problem.

  • The problem is BHVR has a history of ignoring any and all feedback that comes from the PTB. It has never been so much a 'Player Test Build' as it has been a 'Patch Preview Build'.
