It doesn't really matter if you see a number or not. It should be about how the game plays out. If the match feels lopsided it didn't work.

Folks also need to understand that it won't work at making "fair and balanced matches" 100% the time, either. No MMR can do that. I play several other games with MMR matchmaking, and there are still matches, hell entire nights of matches, that are stomp or be stomped tossed in with the nights and matches where it feels like it's working as intended.

And those are from studios with a hell of a lot more resources than BHVR.

I feel like some on the forums (not necessarily you, as I've seen it in countless threads) that think SBMM will be a magic bullet. Will it be better than we have now? Most likely. Will it be 100%? Not a chance. And some folks will be unluckier than others.

That said, I am still in favor of SBMM and can't wait for it to be added permanently.

  • I'm fairly certain a vast majority of the people who play the game (and also never visit the forums to begin with) really don't care if they're perceived as good or not. They're simply playing because they enjoy playing, regardless of what forum goers think.

I don't know man, for an old man in 2018 he sure does kick some serious ass! 😄

Until he ran out of stalk juice. 😛

Nope, that's why killers are a bad expense at retail price. They can nerf your favorite killer to the ground and you can't do much about it. You can always use a credit card to try it out with and it might be possible to issue a chargeback.

Oh yeah, I learned a couple years ago to never, and I mean NEVER, buy a Dead by Daylight killer at launch. Not with money and not with shards.

I always wait at least two to three months, usually around the following DLC's announcement, to buy the previous. I figure by then BHVR is done screwing with them, and I can truly decide if they're worth the purchase for me.

I've yet to buy Twins, Trickster, or Nemesis. Thus far, none of them are worth any type of money or shard investment from me.

I do love how he mirrors the movies perfectly, however unlike the movies he never...RUNS OUT OF POWER! Nothing worse than knowing that he can't feed anymore and becomes a useless m1 killer. 😕

I don't know about that. At the end of Halloween 2018, he might as well have run out of power and become a useless M1 killer. He got his ass absolutely kicked by the Strode ladies. Heck 40 years prior, I think he ran out of power there, too. Little 17-year-old Laurie messed him up at the end. He had to resort to just trying to choke her. 😂

Leatherface, Freddy, Michael, Ghostface, Pyramid head, Nemesis, and Pig, all killers that we have seen before the year 2000 (Nemesis almost being modern but is 1 year short, 1999) (And I don't count Demo given he's really not that iconic. For Stranger things? Yes, but not in a general sense like all the others, also he's in season 1 out of 4, can't really compare him)

There are so many slashers and creatures that have come out since 2000 that BHVR haven't even touched. My Bloody Valentine, The Mist, Dog Soldiers, Slither, A Quiet Place, Hollow Man, American Psycho, Purge, etc.

And don't forget the games like Dead Space, Fear, Amnesia, Siren, Fnaf, Evil Within, Outlast, etc.

Some of these might not be iconic to you, but they ARE iconic to others.

All these deserve some position in the "Horror Hall of Fame", and yet all we've seen is ancient history.

My Bloody Valentine was actually a 1981 Slasher film. It just had a remake done in 2009. In which case, Freddy had a remake done in 2010, and Michael Myers a soft reboot in 2018. And Leatherface had a remake in 2003 (and other films in 2006, 2013, and 2017) and a soft reboot coming in 2022. So, if you include My Bloody Valentine, then those three also fit into "modern."

  • You joke, but I well remember the survey I took for BHVR earlier this year (or late last year, I forget specifics on time) where several questions asked about how I felt toward esports, if I followed esports, if I watched esports, if I purchased esports related merchandise, et cetera. I remember answering that section and thinking: Well, it seems BHVR is hoping to make DbD an esport. I smell failure.

I'm not shocked that the company wants to try to get a piece of the esports money, but Dead by Daylight is not a game designed for it.

  • It might not be bias at all. Just because the DbD playerbase wants a particular license doesn't mean that (1) the rights holders are interested in licensing the I.P. to Behavior Interactive for Dead by Daylight or (2) the license isn't too high priced for whatever Licensor reason.

Heck, a couple years ago, I had a tabletop RPG company want to license one of my I.P.s. I turned them down. Why? Simply because I wasn't interested in having the I.P. turned into an RPG. Sometimes, a Rights Owner just says "Pass" for their own reasons.

Then you didn't play with MMR. Ranks have been hidden.

I'm in the same boat. I haven't played since the fiasco of the Twins' release, and won't be playing again until MMR is permanent. I fully expect my return games to be rough for a week, maybe a month, until the MMR figures out where to put me on each Killer that I play.

I do however, still keep current on DbD news and and am watching what feedback I can on this MMR test.

No MMR is perfect. Hell, I have hours in the four-digits in Overwatch, and in Quick Play MMR still puts me in stomp or be stomped matches. It's going to happen at times, regardless. The other night was a streak of 7 losses and 0 wins because my team was just so consistently outclassed. Next night was much more even going.

  • Voted: Yes.

I won't explain why because it's already been stated elsewhere in this thread.

  • I first discovered FNAF when my (now) 11-year-old got into it a a few years ago. It was a huge thing with his friends and classmates at the time.

And to be honest, I liked it. I have zero issue if the next killer is Springtrap.

And by the way, I'm almost 49 years old. And I'm far from a 12-year-old in a 40+ body.

So, please OP, uninstall if it is FNAF related. The less entitled, toxic people in DbD the better.

  • @LeFennecFox said:

This is a very bad thing. I find it suspicious they're hiding ranks making it impossible to even understand how the SBMM is working. Going to be another cod style SBMM I bet where the devs don't even tell you how it works or what is factored.

Correct. They've been saying since way back in the original announcement in early 2020 that not only would ranks be hidden with the SBMM system, but that they were not going to be showing anyone their MMR nor tell anything about how it's calculated so that people couldn't abuse it.

Never mind, of course, that any MMR system can be abused simply by throwing matches and letting one's rating drop. And even if they try to monitor for that as Blizzard claims to do in Overwatch, it isn't hard to do "just enough" to look legit yet enough to also lose and drop.

But yeah, they've been stating that it would be hidden with no info on how it's calculated coming to us from the very beginning.

  • If this is the best Sluzzy can do nowadays, then . . .

Same. I’ve had multiple people watch me play this game and go “this looks pretty fun, should I get it?” And it’s sad that I have to bring up so many negatives to keep them from getting their hopes up (queue times, grind, matchmaking, bugs, etc.)

Same situation. I'm an author and many of my fans know I play things like Overwatch, DbD, and other games.

And whenever asked, I have to honestly recommend against them jumping into DbD for the reasons you mentioned.

That's way to much grind for a new player. Because it never ends, by the time he managed to get a few killers on p3, another chapter released.

Worse than that. If it's 3 years for the characters we have now, then by the time the current roster is done, there would be another 12 or so new killers and 12 or so new survivors released by then (four of each for each year, for three more years). So, that's another 24 characters over those three years on top of the current math result. And that's not counting the years we get an extra survivor, like this year, for five new survivors in all.

  • At the rate they're going, MMR for DbD should be active around the same time Overwatch 2 sees a release from Blizzard.

My 11-year-old should be in college by the time either happens.

Yes, Most of just want to have the perks we want without grinding for so long. For example My Plague is already at 4 pages of Purple tier 3 perks But Thanatophobia still won't show up for some reason.

If they want to DBD to be grindy then fine cool BUT at least give us the hope/timeframe when I can get the perk I want. For all I know I can have 6 Pages of tier 3 perks till Thanatophobia shows up on my Plague.

Tell me about it. I still don't have Corrupt Intervention on my Level 50 Myers. I gave up.

  • @miketheratguy said:

No offense but I don't understand why so many people see this game as a grind. I'm not saying that it ISN'T a grind - it is - but I mean, you get no special "win" state or super bonus for prestiging characters or making them adept or getting your favorite perks, etc., you just keep playing games and keep getting bloodpoints.

My point is, if the main point of playing the game is to hurry through the grind then what's the point of playing at all? I don't mind the grind because to me it's a secondary component of the game, something just happens naturally on its own as a side effect from playing. I don't see a new character or perk and think "aw man, now I have to grind that", I think "hmm, maybe I'll switch to that character for a while now".

Like I said, I'm not trying to insult anybody, I just don't understand why, if the game is all about grinding by playing, so many people are focused on the grind instead of just enjoying the play. It reminds me of the South Park Warcraft episode where the characters go through hours upon hours of grinding so that they can beat a particularly skilled player, then when they do they're like "great, now we can play".

The point should be to experiment with perk builds, test out various combinations, and get better at the PvP aspect.

I've been in Paladins for four years. I get to test builds and styles out on any new champion out of the gate. Absolutely zero grind. The two of three "Talents" they lock behind a level gate can be opened within an hour of play on that champion (if they're worth it Talents to begin with). But I get to experiment with builds from the start. And what's kept me playing for four years if just that: build experimentation and getting better with each Champion.

I've been in Overwatch since launch day. That's five years now. Zero grind. Nothing to unlock. McCree is McCree, Lucio is Lucio, Zarya is Zarya. It never changes. But getting better with the roster, doing new team tactics or ultimate-combos with someone else, that's why I play.

DbD has an asinine grind. I come and go from this game a lot more than I ever have with something like Paladins or Overwatch. Here they use the grind as a design crutch to try to keep people playing. If I wanted that, I would go back to MMOs.

  • It's going to end up abused. BHVR can say what they want about tunneling and camping and such not being banable, people will just report around that. Killer camped or Survivor teabagged? Just claim abusive endgame chat, instead.

The autoban system is abused even in Overwatch, a game created by Blizzard with a lot more resources and players. Not Hero switching over there is not reportable, yet Top500 players of Heroes like Torb have been banned on live stream due to reports for playing Torb in high ranked games. And they one-tricked Torb all the way to a Top500 placement, so they knew how to play the character effectively in such matches.

Teammates didn't like the hero choice, so reported and eventually banned. Yes, the ban got overturned eventually, but it was still a hassle.

It'll be the same fiasco here. Unless BHVR has the programmers and resources to do it far better than Blizzard did.

  • Sadly, I lost hype for new DLCs several chapters ago. This isn't about the quality of the characters, yada-yada, but rather I find it difficult to get hyped for new pay-for content for DbD when so, so many core issues still remain with the game, itself.

This is one of the reasons why I love Scott’s content and videos. He’s brutally honest, I’ve seen him say the hurtful truth about stuff on the survivor side and killer side but man, he nailed this one. I feel like a lot of threads that are posted on here are laughable. Entitled killer mains that make threads like “Delete SWF”, “NERF (enter survivor perk here),” etc. same goes for survivors as well but I notice this more on the killer side.

    https://youtu.be/rkgivrJlvao

Oh please, that's not even real insight. Pretty much any game forum, especially for PvP, is the same. Go over to Overwatch and it's cries to nerf this character or that (usually one they lost to) or buff this character or that character (usually one they play a lot), Apex: ditto with guns, Paladins: same as Overwatch. Heroes of the Storm? Yep. League of Legends? There, too.

Anyone who visits more than one PvP game forum and plays more than one PvP game has known this for a long time.

I get that people here just seem to love Scott, but this one isn't even worthy of pointing to. That's like him pointing out the sun rises in the east. Yeah, no #########.

  • If it was run by Blizzard, they would have already abandoned it for Dead by Daylight 2. Which, you know, might launch in 2022, possibly 2023 . . . .

Even if MMR was 100% perfect, there's so many reasons that can come down to raw luck as to why a game may feel so lopsided.

And when these lopsided games happen and they're attached to scorecards like these that show players with ranks all over the place... everyone will just say: "Of course the game sucked - MMR is flat out broken! Look at this!"

They need to get rid of player rankings, or at very least, stop showing it on the score card (for the purposes of achievements or whatever)

When MMR finally goes Live, I agree with you that ranks should be hidden from the scorecard for precisely that reason: people will still use it as an excuse even though Rank will no longer play a role in the matchmaking.

Right now, though, MMR is not active. It was only active for a 24 hour test a week or two ago, that ended, and MMR was deactivated again. Right now the matchmaker is "supposed to be" building matches via the Rank Based Matchmaking system.

BHVR will keep being the money greedy people they are, only hope for DBD to get better is for something to come along the way and rival it. Been hearing a lot of people think that Home Sweet Home: Survive is the game that could hold up well to compete with DBD, but it's gonna take a lot of dedication put into that game to make it happen.

I've been watching Home Sweet Home: Survive. I've just been hesitant of dropping the $7 on the game. Oh, I can afford it, trust me. But given how things have gone in the asymmetrical genre as far as non-DbD titles are concerned, I'm leery of where the player base numbers will be in a month or two.

  • I haven't played since November-December. I played Killer, so you can probably understand why I stopped playing. I did try Survivor multiple times, but since my Friends & Family group is in Overwatch, and none of them will touch the grind of DbD as new players (they tried a free weekend a while back and promptly walked away), I had to play Solo Survivor.

Yeah, that crap died on the vine rather quickly.

I keep an eye on the game, but the desire to do that is growing fainter and fainter. I did reinstall on Steam only to try the PTB for Twins and, more recently, Trickster, but didn't touch the live game during either of those times. Neither killer impressed me in the slightest, so after PTB the files were uninstalled again.

Watching the forums and other places, and seeing the fiasco that the Twins release was, the train wreck that launched the new U.I., the joke that is Trickster, the idiocy that became of The Game map, and more, I have yet to find a reason to reinstall the game.

Matter of fact, I'm actually finding less and less reason to even keep up with DbD info. BHVR will continue to do as BHVR does, and unless there are some serious management changes for the game, including some serious changes to the balance team, I don't have any faith left in it.

And I honestly doubt any changes will ever happen. So . . . .

IKR? Support main since launch here (makes sense, my wow main was priest and resto druid). When I am tunneled in OW though, I just put up the standard "no protection no heal" sign, i.e. switch to damage boost. :)

Same. I started as Support in beta and will always main support, though I am also beast on 76, Junkrat, and Zarya as well.

I took matters into my own hands, I flipped to Lucio and stick near the middle of the team due to his aura effect. Lucio not meta? Whatever, peeling for your healer has apparently never been meta. 🤣

You don't have to completely stop playing. Nobody is stopping you from playing unless they are at your house unplugging the controller or hacking you, being over dramatic isn't going to change the facts.

Tunneling has existed and will exist in every multiplayer game that isn't a 1 shot insta-kill scenario. I get tunneled all the time playing support in Overwatch, and playing Survivor here. I deal with both the same way, change tactics, use the tools provided in game, and work with my team. The new ds still works the same in instances where you are being tunneled.

Also in this game particularly being tunneled out means losing 4 chases. You say looping is one of the most fun parts of the game, well there's 4 opportunities to loop your heart out. Bring ds and you get 5.

As a Support main in Overwatch . . . oh Jesus H. Christ, yes we do indeed.

Yeah and people still say this game is great and other games like it were bad and terrible and that's why they didn't last. yes some of them were bad. some weren't but just because by some miracle at this point DBD survives doesn't make it a great game. mind you the person in question was a fog whisperer so they kind of have to suck up to the game.

The sad thing is, DbD has had the World of Warcraft effect on the asymmetrical genre. It's the king of the hill, and many of its players feel locked into it due to the grind and time commitment it took them to get anywhere with it. Why would they jump ship and start all over again in a new asymmetrical game, and lose all that grinding time and progress?

The same thing happened to MMOs with World of Warcraft. It rapidly became the King of the Hill in that industry, and people put in a lot of time, grind, and progression into their characters. New MMOs came out trying to capture some of that success, and far too many were considered failures by the respective studios. Oh, they might have gotten WoW players to try their game, but they weren't staying. They already had too much committed to WoW, itself.

And, those who did leave WoW apparently didn't jump to a new MMO. They jumped to a new game genre entirely. Hell, MMOs were my main gaming genre from 1999-2016.

And what happened? The MMO graveyard filled up, and now the genre is not what it used to be. And very, very few big studios even consider doing an MMO anymore. It's considered too high risk.

DbD is slowly having the same affect on the asymmetrical genre. DbD players feel locked in, the genre isn't pulling in a plethora of new blood outside of DbD MSRP sales, and DbD isn't exactly good at new player retention if Steam numbers a month or two after a sale are any indication. And with nothing else really out there with a player base, those players are heading back to the RPGs, shooters, battle royales, or MOBAs that they came from.

  • @Pulsar said:

That is a very big wall of text.

However, I agree. If we aren't going to make any big changes because the PTB playerbase is too small, then why are we using the PTB in the first place?

The Devs could easily expand it to Consoles. I'm pretty sure Sea of Thieves has a PTB, Overwatch does and so does PUBG. That's an easy way to at least double the amount of players participating in the PTB.

Just wanted to chime in here on Overwatch. Blizzard stopped using the PTB for Overwatch a year ago. Its last usage was for Echo's release.

What they do now is add an "Experimental Card" (i.e. game mode) into the live game when there are balance changes to be made. The cards generally last a week or two, and by putting it into the live game, itself, it allows PC and Console players to all test the proposed balance changes.

And I will hand it to Blizzard in one regard: some changes have gone live, some have not. Unfortunately, some of the changes that went to live sometimes makes you wonder if they aren't as bad at balance as BHVR.

Now, that said, they haven't released a new Hero in Overwatch for a year now, and a new map longer than that. All new heroes and maps are being put into Overwatch 2, which has a 2022 release date at the earliest. Could be even longer. Generally, new maps and heroes would go to the PTB, and Blizzard's test servers are still PC-only. But as it stands, Overwatch hasn't needed a test server for a year now, and won't again until after Overwatch 2 releases in a year or more.

I don't. I never sympathize with laziness, whether physical or mental.

  • Pyramid Head was the last DLC for me. Blight's PTB was an insult, not even being the actual build for him, so I didn't buy it out of principle. I avoided the Twins fiasco after trying them on PTB and then maintaining a wait-and-see post-launch approach.

Once I tried Trickster on PTB, and then read how they further nerfed him, I said to myself: Oh hell no!

I haven't had DbD Installed, outside of the temporary PTB tryouts (no self-respecting person would call it testing since BHVR listens to little to no feedback), and keep waiting for that Chapter that will bring me back.

    I've a feeling I'm gonna be gone a long, long time. 😂🤣

They did say something, both times it was deactivated.

When they originally turned it off in August 2020, they stated that they did so.

When they reactivated it for 24 hours a week or so ago, not only did they state it was only for 24 hours as a test and to collect live data, but they also announced when it was deactivated and the test was over. There were banners right here at the forums. I can't speak as to whether or not they were on Twitter or in-game, because I don't use Twitter and haven't played since December or so.

No offence intended, but I think you’ve completely misunderstood the whole concept of DBD. It’s not built around teamplay at all.

The entire theme of the survivor side is that there is an equal measure of pro and con working cooperatively, just as NOT working cooperatively has an equal measure of pro and con.

There is supposed to be constant uncertainty whether working together or not is or isn’t the right choice, never knowing whether it might be another survivor that ends up getting you killed. It’s one of the few true remaining horror elements to this game: “Are my teammates a danger to me?”

I haven't misunderstood it at all. Unfortunately, that is the concept that BHVR envisioned for the game, but the execution has gone in the opposite direction. It's why playing Solo is a generally miserable experience. I stopped counting the number of times I ran a killer only to have zero gens pop, or be put on the hook and see my teammates hiding in far corners of the maps, or have someone else hooked and Kindred show me the exact, same thing.

They're issues not generally faced when in an SWF.

The concept might be of isolation and are my teammates a danger, but in reality the mechanical designs we have today make it a team game.

  • To be honest, this is what happens for Solo players playing a game that is heavily designed around team-play. Overwatch suffers the same issue. As a solo player, you can have the game of your week as far as your own performance, and one or two other people not pulling their weight on your six-man team can force a loss no matter what you do.

It's the reason I refuse to play Overwatch without the Friends & Family team anymore, and why I will never again play solo survivor in DbD.

Unfortunately, since no one I know gives a lick about DbD, I ended up never touching survivor again and being a pure Killer main. Which led to burnout, and I haven't touched the game since November-December. The most frustrating match in Overwatch isn't as frustrating as a lot of killer matches in DbD.

  • Considering all the servers are currently in Thailand, where the developer is located, with U.S. and Europe players complaining about consistent 280+ ping, I doubt it will get very far outside of the Asian market unless they invest in regional servers, and very soon.

Besides that issue, it also shares a lot of the balance issues that 2016 DbD suffered from everything I've read, and that is not going to help them either. They need to compete against 2021 DbD if they want to penetrate outside of the Asian market.

So, as it stands right now, I'm calling it a complete non-competitor to DbD in non-Asian markets.

I had left for a few weeks after getting super frustrated (I've since come back but I've set myself up with some pretty strict rules in playing this game and if I break one again, I'm going to shut it down forever).

You're certainly not the first person leaving now and you'll not be the last. It's a shame that this game CAN be super good but more often than not it just...isn't. But there's really nothing like this to play out there so we come crawling back asking for more...

This is what makes me very glad that I'm not in love with asymmetrical game design. Originally, I only bought DbD for the licensed horror icons, so it was easy to finally put it down. I haven't had it installed since November-December, but haven't completely written it off yet. Though, the longer I'm away the more likely it seems to be the end result.

Luckily, I prefer team games like Overwatch, but even that I only play with the Friends & Family team.

If I was a huge fan of the asymmetrical game design . . . yeah, it'd be rough going. I feel for you guys.

  • Hell, I maimed Killer. I rolled out in November or December, and outside of testing a new chapter on PTB, have not not touched DbD. The live game isn't even installed. I just pop into the forums. I haven't written the game off yet, but it's damned close to happening.

I think the new killer looks cool and could be fun to play, but after playing him in the PTB, I just hope they buff him now. He's just too weak, and his only viable method of attack is to tunnel people to hook. He has basically no capability to switch targets, mindgame, etc. Lacerates fading over time creates no long term strategy with his abilities, so everything with Trickster needs to be short term and definitive, or else it's just a waste of time and resources.

That's the thing I don't get from BHVR. So, when I tested the twins on PTB, I saw early on that camping would be king for them. A day into Trickster, and I was like: Okay then, tunneling is king for this one.

Complaints ad nauseam about Killers camping and tunneling. BHVR releases a killer who shines by camping and then one right after that who needs to tunnel to get anywhere. At this point, I'm expecting the next killer to absolutely need to slug starting at 5 gens to get anywhere.

    🤷‍♀️

Your as old as my dad, yeah streaming now a days that age would be pretty hard

Yep. I mean, there are older people who do it, such as Stream_Dad for DbD, but we're few and far between. Video game streaming is a young person's game because the key demographic for it is teenagers to around 32 or so. They want to watch people their own age play whatever game.

Only streaming I do is concerning my writing or the business end of my industry. I often do short videos for fans on book progress, and to fellow authors on business advice and tips.

Trying gramer, since you can't understand a thought without it.

    Well, if we're on that topic . . . it's grammar, not gramer. 😂🤣

THats why I would do rather then just one game, but a multiple plethora of them

Exactly. Now, I'm 48 years old. I've been in the entertainment industry for 30 years, primarily as an author, but also in tabletop games, video games, TV, and comics. I have fans that know I play games like DbD, Overwatch, Paladins, and others. They want me to stream.

I'm lucky that my platform would start with at least a small following and be variety from the start per request. However . . . I am 48 years old. I'm not going to start a Streaming business platform at this stage in my life.

Which is something that is sadly limiting when being a streamer

Unfortunately, you see a lack of business sense or business foresight way too often in the industry. And all too often, I see Streamers who are so obviously bored with a game that even their facial expressions show they'd rather be playing something else. The problem they have is that they built their channel brand around a single game, and attempting to change that loses them revenue.

Worse is when they build it around a single game, and then for whatever reason the game takes a dive off a cliff and loses players (and therefore viewers) at some point and becomes a shell of what it was.

Variety streaming takes longer to build, and also takes something entertaining to offer than just the simple "look at how good I am at this one game!" to succeed. Which, unfortunately, a majority of streamers simply cannot pull off. They don't have the on-air personality for it. But, variety streaming offers better overall longevity.

I think you mean "spelled" exactly like that. Smh

Both "spelt" and "spelled" are correct. Spelt is more common outside of the U.S., while spelled is the commonly accepted word within the United States.

Since the forums have members from both within and outside of the U.S., either of them will be used.
