yeah I didn't either. My friend is usually the one who shows me the new assymetrical games. I'm particularly a fan of that Carnival Hunt trailer and I love the gameplay I've seen of Haunt Chaser since it is in early access.

I'm going to look more into those two this evening.

I mean I've found a few games recently that are assym that look good/I really like.

    There's Carnival Hunt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viJsY4UjPQo

    VHS as @MeltingPenguins mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EudLkQrn0qc

The Ash vs Evil Dead game @Triadequinaxor mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALpBmM6EqBQ

And Haunt Chaser which looks like DBD and Phasmophobia combined and looks awesome. It has something DBD is missing. You can play against an AI with friends and not bot teammates: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZUKwBao7Aw

I'm very much waiting for Evil Dead: The Game. Can't wait. Unlike with DbD, there's already a Friends & Family group waiting to play that one. We're Evil Dead fans and have been since we were kids (I was born in '72).

Didn't know about VHS. Was watching the Devs play on YouTube. It looks fun. Just joined the Discord and did the Beta sign-up.

It's so annoying and its the longest loading I've ever experienced in a video game. It becomes worse when someone thinks the game is stuck and dc's and ends up having to send us back to the lobby. Devs, please fix your game or I'll throw a hissy fit!

Agreed. The only other game I've ever experienced this in, in the modern day, was Heroes of the Storm.

Well i mean if laurie dies in halloween kills what happens in halloween ends?

I have a feeling they might be "passing the torch" to her granddaughter, Allyson, if they do that. Now, I don't believe they would kill Laurie before Halloween Ends, but if they do do that in Kills, we do have trailer scenes where Allyson has his mask and is taunting him to come and take it. So, from what we've seen so far, they seem to be setting her up to confront him.

By the way, if you didn't hear yet, Screenrant announced that Halloween Kills hits both theaters and streaming (on Peacock) on the same day, October 15th. Despite originally pushing for a theater-only release (thus the delay from October 2020 to October 2021) thanks to Delta variant Universal and Blumhouse decided to do both at the same time.

(This is for the U.S., I can't speak for non-U.S. markets.)

  • Yeah, I don't get it. The last test, from all reports, went very well. But the Live implementation is playing like they activated the original, horrendous, SBMM system from August 2020 instead.

  • Hopefully, within Halloween Kills or Halloween Ends, he finally gets her.

  • I don't really have any goals. I just play DbD to run around as my favorite horror icons like Myers, Freddy, Ghostface, and Leatherface. Or maybe just as some other twisted slasher like Doc or Legion.

For me, it's just the "horror fantasy," nothing more.

MMR hasn't changed that concept for me. I'm still not going to worry about kills or the meta.

  • @FeelsBadMan said:

Ok, so I play solo survivor (NA/East) And I keep getting the exact SAME killer over and over again and losing against him EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. (I am at 3 times now) yet I still keep getting matched against him with teammates who also don't stand a chance.

Devs be honest, did you just rename ranks to grades and remove ANY kind of matchmaking, just throwing everyone together? Either that or its not working. I am starting to get really pissed.

    Yeah, I feel the same.

First day of it, matches for me seemed fine. But yesterday I was off from work, so I was able to play more. The more I lost as Killer, and I don't mean kills but even just getting some goddamn hooks in a match, the more skilled the survivors became in subsequent matches. Yes, I typed that correctly: the more I was unable to accomplish anything in a match, the more skilled subsequent opponents became.

And this was on the same Killer, not a rotation like I usually would play.

On top of that, people are saying it might take around 20 matches per Killer to get a stable MMR . . . assuming it's working as intended, which I am now doubting. But anyway, I play 10 Killers. I don't main any single character. I can play around 12-15 matches a week (four or five a night, three nights a week), as I can't play often. So, that would take me 13 to 16 weeks to stabilize my roster of 10, with another two weeks for Survivor. That's three to four months of absolute BS, and that is assuming this system is working as intended in the first place.

Or hell, let's never mind the time. Even if I played frequently, that would still be an average of 220 BS matches to get my entire killer roster, plus survivor, stabilized. I play for fun and entertainment, and that is sounding like a work chore.

I don't know. I'm thinking about just uninstalling. I have other games, and many other PvP games. I don't feel any compulsion to put myself through this crap for DbD. Especially when I'm no longer confident that the system is working as intended.

  • Ain't that poor guy already been through enough crapola? 🀣

  • I'm speaking purely within the past year that the release format seems to have changed. Spirit and Oni were before that.

Also, if they release a strong killer and then nerf, people want a refund because they wanted to buy an OP killer.

So it incentivizes making killers weak out of the gate, then dialing them up, which I believe is what they have had to do with pretty much every killer.

    You noticed that, too. 😁

  • I agree. It's been a lot more fun under SBMM with both sides.

In the US it seems to be more extreme tho. People speak about Queue Times of 20 minutes, I have never experienced that in EU. Like, in EU you might wait around 5 minutes for a Killer game during the day and around 3-5 minutes for Survivor in the evening, but nothing like 20 minutes.

I can confirm. I tried Killer around 10:30am today. After 16 minutes (I timed it), I gave up.

But that has been typical day-time Killer queues over here for about a year now. Even without a new killer showing up.

I'm iri 2 at the moment. My first Pinhead game was against all ash players.

The wife and I enjoy Hellraiser. I usually never buy a Killer at launch, and have been reluctant to get him while the crash-bug is still a thing, but I think I might just bite the bullet this evening. I'm one of those players that doesn't give a damn if he's strong, I care if he's fun. And a lot of people are saying he's fun.

  • @Sypherpathic said:

Well the idea of separating MMR per killer was to alleviate some of the issue with going against very good survivors with a new killer. The question is, if some of the 'residual skill' from other killers moves to a new killer, how much is it?

We don't know how much. They haven't stated it and won't state it. It's been asked over the months of testing. All we know if that the MMR of your other killers has a strong bearing on the "beginning MMR" of your new killers.

  • @Marc_go_solo said:

    @chargernick85 @Kilmeran

Just a thought about the SBMM: I think you guys are along the right lines with BP, but I'm thinking it's not the end resulting BP or who "won". I feel it's not even the right page to look at for an idea on SBMM, but I think there is a page that would help more.

If it's skill-based, the main measures of skill were based on the Emblem system. But the ranking system based itself on the total of the emblem scores; not individual.

If I'm right in thinking, SBMM may be measured on those 4 measurements on the emblem page and pair people up based on how close all emblem scores are. For example: someone who gets gold, gold, silver, gold for emblem scores on that page will more probably be paired with a gold, silver, silver, gold player than a Iri,Iri,Ash,Iri player. And then over time the averages of each measurements are used to pair with those of similar close measurements.

I'm not sure if I've made it clear, but if this is how it's working, then this could be a genius matchmaking system, as trying to rig it becomes far more complex, and most likely will result in very imbalanced matches, whilst those who strive for high marks in all of the emblems will get much better team mates and opponents.

I absolutely get what you're saying, and have thought of that myself. I just haven't played enough to get a feel for it yet, and how it might work. Plus, I've also been away for almost a year, so my general skill level is rusty, which is going to affect what I can determine right now. 😁

I just started playing dbd, like 35 hours and I am Silver IV rn. I played 6 games today as killer, In every single one of them there was at least a red rank.Creating a party with lower ranks can create a bit of confusion, I get it. But last game I played I played against all red rank I,II and two IV. Can u tell me if this is okay like that or if it need some adjustment? thank you

-I'll just attach a screenshot of the post game screen so that u can see what I am talking about. (Do not mind my complaining in the chat xD)

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/B8E4G9Y9Z4J2/screenshot-281-29.png

The grades of no effect on matchmaking anymore. Now, looking at the scoreboard, all of you except for the one kill you got were within 1k to 3k BP total to each other at the end. The indicates similar skill level, as it wasn't a stomp match for either side. Seems like a fair match to me.

  • @chargernick85 I'm also okay with a 0k or 1k. I'm not watching Kills, I'm watching the BP totals at the end. If they're relatively close, I consider the match fair under the SBMM. It just means I probably made a lot of mistakes.

  • @chargernick85 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2484080#Comment_2484080

Yes the above average should change but those are great games and my personal favorite. 1 gen remaining means the game could have gone the other way for you just as easily. They just made too many mistakes and you made the right call which should be what determines the outcome of a match (who played better) but old matchmaking was not like that. I love down to the wire games where everyone scores around 20k or more.

I felt the same way. None of those four games felt lopsided, and except for in the case of one of my Myers games that had a TTV on the Survivor side that wanted to (it seemed) show off more instead of being efficient, all of us were within 2k to 3k BP of each other at the end.

That TTV ended with only 7k, because being a show off got them hooked and left by the other Survivors.

  • @chargernick85 said:

I only played killer last night but mine went like this.

Game 1 - Blight with Ruin, Pop, Lethal, Disco = 4k at 1 gen remaining. They played optimal but sucked in chase.

Game 2 - Oni - Wanted to try for the 12 expose challenge and this went terrible IM, Noed, Tink, NWO. Had an endgame build that did not work on Haddonfield = 0k

Game 3 - Ghostface - Pulled my head out of my ass and realized he great for this challenge ran BBQ, Devour, MYC, Undying = 4k at 4 gens (9 exposed hits).

Game 4 - Pinhead (first gm with him) Ran his 3 perks with Lethal = 4k at 1 gen remaining.

I played 4 games last night as well.

Game 1: Myers, 4k at 1 gen remaining.

Game 2: Myers, 4k at 1 gen remaining.

Game 3: Doc, 3k, hatch escape, 2 gens remaining

Game 4: Leatherface, 4k at 1 gen remaining.

Pretty much every time, the survivors would play efficient on the gens, but were not strong in chase. Once they knocked out the first three gens, I managed to get pressure and chases going, and that was when they fell apart.

Only game where I had strong chase survivors was the second Myers game, which was on The Game map. I had to hold Tier 3 until I could get that Bill and Leon cornered and then nail them together (they always ran together, like a SWF Duo).

I expect the above to change over the coming weeks. I haven't played since the fiasco of the Twins release almost nine months ago, so didn't participate in any SBMM tests and the system didn't exactly have much data to go off of for me.

I also don't main a specific Killer. In any given week, I will rotate matches between Myers, Freddy, Ghostface, Leatherface, Pig, Doc, Clown, Oni, Legion, and Wraith.

Like, tonight, I plan to play Oni, Freddy, Wraith, and Pig for my matches.

I just had a guy in my team who legit JUST got the game (he told me in post game chat). I have 3k hours. The game was shitfest. Rank 1 killer, Pinhead. No one did the cube cause none of my mates knew what to do. 2 Ppl died on first hook cause I collected the cube and killer was chasing me. The guy who just got the game was on the other side of the map not doing anything cause he didn't knew what to do. HOW CAN YOU CALL THAT WORKING MATCHMAKING???

I mean, to be fair, if they just got the game, they don't have an MMR yet so are going to be tossed all over the place to start.

Hell, I have well over a thousand hours in Overwatch, and MMR will toss brand new players into my matches as well until they establish their own MMR. And these are blatant new players to Overwatch, not smurf accounts.

  • Looking at your bloodpoints, the matches were close in skill.

As far as their ranks, that means nothing. They could easily have been boosted to red ranks. But from the BPs earned, you guys all look pretty close in skill level, which is what the new MMR is supposed to do.

  • Do I have faith in them? Sadly, not after the past year, no.

  • Yes, it is live. Yes, grades still show.

True... I can see how they IP holders might want to distance themselves from the sillier aspects of the Hellraiser series.

I can see it. Especially since the U.S. Rights for the original 1987 film revert back to Clive Barker as of December 19th of this year, per his court battle win for them. So, the reboot and the TV show will ultimately also have to go through him at some point, and he has been very vocal over the years about his dislike of the sillier elements in the movie franchise.

  • @Sypherpathic said:

I guess my last bit on this, like anyone cares about opinion at this point... is...

You could just say 'hey, I bought this and I don't like it without the voice' or 'hey, you had the voice in test and now it doesn't' and try for a refund. I'd suggest you'd likely get it.

Otherwise, if this is somehow about like.... a lawsuit or some kind of legal standing, not gonna happen.

In other news, I think I've 'spent' more than $5 of my time on this thread at this point....

Hell, at this stage you wouldn't even have to mention the voice line. All you'd have to tell the store is that the "product doesn't work as advertised," since Pinhead keeps randomly crashing your game while playing him, with no timeline for a fix conveyed by BHVR.

  • @Cerebral_Harlot said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2481149#Comment_2481149

Its frustrating that BHVR can't clarify/apologize and instead leaves us to debate the ambiguity of their statements.

From a consumer standpoint, it is frustrating, indeed.

If it is a licensing issues, though, BHVR really did it to themselves at this point. The whole "I came" voiceline my 11-year-old immediately recognized as a bad meme. The adults at BHVR should have damned well known that. And with the Hellraiser movie reboot on the plate, not to mention a proposed TV series from HBO, there was no way in Hell the licensor would let that go out and Pinhead become a joke.

    If . . . and I stress if . . . it was a licensing issue.

  • @Cerebral_Harlot said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2481140#Comment_2481140

That is not what I am saying, I am saying they should stated that the issue was one of licensing, rather than an issue with game files like they mentioned.

I've worked on licensed products in the past, and sometimes you just can't state that. You would be surprised some of the clauses in a licensing agreement, especially ones specifically constructed so absolutely nothing can be said to even remotely make the licensor look bad in the customers' eyes.

  • @Cerebral_Harlot said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2481058#Comment_2481058

So they may have been mistruthful but they wont/can't say.

Well, yeah and no. A legal issue is a "complication" with the proposed audio files. So, it wouldn't exactly be untruthful.

That said, I am in no way, shape, or form defending how they're handling this. It's being handled in an asinine way, which seems to be typical BHVR now.

It's why I never buy anything from them on release day, and have still not purchased anything from them since Blight released one year ago today. No DLCs, no cosmetics, no rifts, not a damned thing. In my personal opinion, BHVR is no longer to be trusted. I'd trust EA over them at this point.

  • @Cerebral_Harlot said:

I was told the voicline removal was for technical reasons. If its actually copyright and they lied to us about being able to fix them ill be kinda upset.

They said in the patch notes: "The Cenobite's voice over lines have been removed due to complications with the audio files."

We've no idea if the "complications" are of a technical or legal nature. Anyone outside of a BHVR representative stating one or the other is pure conjecture. The mods here on the forums have simply stated that they cannot discuss it.

I just don't buy dlc on the first day any more. It's not even that I'd be mad at what I get - I can't play the killer because the ques ALWAYS jump up massively in the first evening after a dlc drop

Yeah, I stopped buying a DbD DLC near release quite a while ago. Now, I wait until a month, maybe two months, after its launch. And since every DLC patch from Twins to now has been a disaster, that went from personal advice to a hardline rule.

BHVR is pretty much top of the list of "Game Studios I Do Not Trust."

  • Probably because Pinhead is available only through spending actual money (as opposed to shards for non-licensed characters), and this way causes them less potential fallout with the Steam, Microsoft, and Sony stores.

And I don't mean with the players from those stores, but the actual stores. They all three tend to frown on charging for a game product or DLC, and then deactivating it the very next day due to issues on the developer's end.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2478940#Comment_2478940

Behaviour Interactive has 600+ employees, and is the self-described largest independent game developer and publisher in Canada. As I type this, Dead By Daylight is the 9th most-played game on Steam (per Steamcharts), it's in the top 10 of all games being played on Twitch at this moment, and only two months ago it had its highest peak player count of all-time on Steam.

Stop with the sob stories. Behaviour is not some scrappy upstart company. They are well-capitalized, well-staffed, and yet still unable to conduct a smooth DLC launch five years in. Just today, they've had to disable the RPD map, the new killer is causing random disconnects, and Freddy's dream pallets can stun him. It's always two steps forward, one step back.

They don't listen to (and do not want) external feedback, they aren't transparent about anything, and they have repeatedly demonstrated that they don't have a firm grasp on the things that are wrong with their game. They can't/won't fix their screwy code base that leads to the type of issues listed above, they will never forsake a few almighty dollars for an aggressive game health update cycle (or two), and they have no incentive to ever change this outlook because in spite of everything I typed in the last two paragraph, the things in paragraph #1 continue to remain true.

    @Rydog said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2479010#Comment_2479010

It's because people have mythologized this idea that Behaviour is some little developer. They may have been at one time, but they're not now. They will celebrate their 30th anniversary next year, and they've developed a lot of games, and made a lot of money off Dead By Daylight.

And no, there's no excuse for this. There's no reason I should be able to go to their Twitter account on the launch day of a new DLC pack and reliably expect to see a bunch of issues of the magnitude of the ones I am seeing today. There's no reason they can't catch this kind of stuff before launch; to me, it's a sign that their PTB windows and pre-launch QA periods need to be longer, but for some reason they won't budge on changing their process, even though this KEEPS. HAPPENING.

Not to mention, Netease is also a shareholder in Behavior Interactive. To the point they have a representative on the Board of Directors.

If you want to simply sit down and accept whatever people throw at you, far be it from me to tell you not to do so.

Your entire point is that because BHVR has made it clear that they are launching SBMM, I should simply stop criticizing it.

They ignored Console Optimization for two years and now we are finally getting somewhere, change can happen. It sure as hell took a lot of "yelling into the wind" to get that to happen.

No, I don't accept whatever a game company throws at me if I am unhappy with it. I take my play time and my money and I move on to a different game. Did it with WoW after 16 years over there, will do it with Overwatch after around six years in the game when Overwatch 2 launches because I do not like the new 5v5 format or other changes they are making, have done it beyond those two games, and will likely do so again with future games.

I've long since realized that unless it affects their revenue with a big enough negative impact, a majority of game studios won't do anything that is against their internal vision. You're right, BHVR has not addressed optimization on consoles. Their obvious gamble was on NextGen upgrades being done by the players and optimization being good on them (I've no idea if it is or not, I play PC games only).

In the meantime, month after month after month of lip service to you console players. Just enough to provide a modicum of hope and keep them playing and paying.

But anyway, I'm going to walk out now. We're derailing the thread, and I know others are looking for such a conversation. Have fun in the fog.

And I'm not allowed to express my opinion about the reservations I have with the proposed system?

Why would I continue to fight for Console Optimization if it's "clear BHVR has made their decision at this point."

Look, I don't give a flying ######### what you voice on the BHVR forums. I never told you to not voice your opinion or to not make threads. Save your victim card for someone who gives a damn about that. I stated the obvious. You want to keep yelling into the wind, do so. Tomorrow, SBMM goes live. It goes live in the form stated by BHVR. You don't like it, they made it clear they don't care. That is that.

  • I agree. I like to meme around. Jumpscare Myers, just seeing how many quick scope shots with Deathslinger I can land, only using the chainsaw as Bubba and never using M1, not to mention weird perk loadouts just to see how they go.

I never ran meta stuff and never sweated for a 4k. DbD has never been that kind of game for me. For serious PvP, I have other games better suited for it. I don't take this game any more serious than I do Arsenal in Roblox, or did F13.

SBMM will be nice for me, as I'm pretty certain my MMR is low to mid, at best, and doubt I will ever climb all that high.
