Microsoft is keep buying companies. I hope they buy Konami too.

Metal Gear, Silent Hill and Castlevania is dying because Konami does not give anything new. I really miss this franchises.

Unfortunately, that would probably a couple years away. They're busy hoping to get the Activision-Blizzard buyout through regulators over the next year, and then will have their hands full dealing with all the issues within that company once they assume control.

I actually wonder if they'll be buying anymore decent sized game studios over the next two, maybe three, years. I know they definitely won't be until after the FTC finishes with them on Activision-Blizzard, because doing otherwise would raise the antitrust flags with D.C. even more.

  • MandyTalk really needs to stop with the "game designer know what's best." As someone who has worked in game design, no, that is not always the case. And the gaming industry is also littered with a history of game designers who believed just that, and their games are either no longer around, have bled so many players that they basically handed them to their competitor, or are currently in what amounts to maintenance mode due to lack of players remaining.

Let's look at SOE, and them constantly of knowing what's best, full stop. How were they doing again, now known as Daybreak Games? Let's look at current times and WoW's game designers handing FF14 free money, all due to the belief that they know what's best and players playing the game never do. How have their game design decisions over the past few years done for WoW's numbers?

Are game designers generally trained? Sometimes. There are many in the industry with no formal game design schooling or training in game lead positions simply by way of moving up through said studio and shaking the right hands along the way.

This blind, full-stop, claim about game designers is really sad. Especially when the industry as a whole has proven otherwise many times. At least for me, it just takes away credibility.

But, any interest in the Ash vs the Evil Dead game? I was wondering if others were feeling that game?

I was . . . but I'm starting to get a little annoyed with all the delays. At this point, just stop announcing a date until your game is ready.

It is probably just burn out. I love Overwatch so much, but after nearly 6 years, I just can't anymore. I am sure people who were here since the beginning feel similarly whereas I am a newer player and feel the game is mostly fine. There is a lot they could improve, don't get me wrong, but nothing worth quitting over.

Gave ya an upvote because I agree with you.

Now for my personal experience, I left a month after SBMM because I did not enjoy it. I popped back the week of Halloween and tried again. I lasted five matches and uninstalled again. It's not even burnout for me, DbD was always just a side game. But since SBMM, it's not been fun as Killer. And it isn't like I stomped survivors before SBMM, or regularly got 4ks. Hell, DbD being a side game and with rank resets every month, I never achieved red rank, either.

I totally get burnout, though. Like you, I played Overwatch. Hell, I started in closed Beta and played all the way through Halloween Terror 2021. Then I just had to stop. Complete burnout. I went back this week for the Reaper event and enjoyed myself again.

But for DbD, that hasn't been the case. Not since SBMM.

  • I've been on a break since before Pinhead released. I still check the forums a couple times a month to see what is going on, but have yet to find any reason to reinstall.

Aren't there tools in place to prevent this type of behavior from reoccurring?

You would think there were such tools in place, but sadly the reporting system that BHVR uses leaves a heck of a lot to be desired.

Maybe if they'd actually invested in a real reporting and punishment system in the first place, such things would be better handled and dealt with. As it stands, it's the path of least resistance with them as always: remove the cosmetics.

Games a lot more balanced than people make it out to be, just because you didnt 4k 200 times in a row doesnt mean the game is unbalanced

Fun fact: I rarely 4k because I tend to just let folks escape. I just like to run around as Myers. Never have played for kills. Never hit red ranks either. Never played DbD as a main game anyway. It's asymmetrical. I go elsewhere for my serious PvP, not in some off-sided PvP game.

Any other uneducated claims you want to try to make about how I play?

  • Oh, I didn't buy it. I wasn't investing $28-$35 in a one-man studio game at launch. That was a wait until I saw how it did, deal.

Well, steam reviews: Mostly Negative. Yesterday on Steamcharts: 2 people in game with a 24 player peak for the previous 24 hours.

I would say it failed, but it's gone several steps beyond that.

Im very aware of that, but were comparing current DbD to early DbD

Then you should have led with: At least it is better than before. Not, now that they balanced the game.

They did not balance the game, and have a hell of a long way to go for a balanced game. It being a better turd than before is still a turd, but it isn't balanced by any stretch of the human imagination.

  • Hold off? I don't think so, at least for me. Any games not Win 11 ready by the time I upgrade just lose my play time and money.

Do note, though, not all of us are upgrading on Oct 5th. That is launch day, and like with Win 10, the upgrade to Win 11 is free for a period. Microsoft will be sending out notifications when to upgrade. Everyone will not be doing it on launch day. For some folks, it might even be a few months before their turn.

Crazy, crazy. I know. It's like we gave unbiased opinions of the situation. It's like it's common knowledge at the highest levels this game sucks. It's like you don't need to be facing oracle for this game to be miserable.

It's never been about wanting easy wins. It's never been about wanting to stomp on baby survivors. This entire time SBMM was tested not once have I said I wanted that. Not once have I said I had an issue facing people at my skill level.

Literally all my posts have been about map balance being way off. In terms of size, strong structures, safe pallets, etc. It's been about gen speeds. There's a LOT of structures that are way to strong. Way too many safe pallets/pallets in general.

That's the problem I have. People at my skill level know how to abuse these structures. People know where totems are. People know where gens are and stay glued to them.

It makes killer miserable in every way possible. And I'm still not wrong. The weekend when the better survivors were on just highlighted it. Games where I had maybe 4 hooks. And I got a compensatory 2nd kill because altruism at the EGC. But hey..2 dead and 2 out is "balance"

Want to hear a lot a map layout I got over the weekend ? I got a coldwind map with a jungle gym/long wall, in to cow tree, in to LT wall, in to hay stack loop with pallet, in to shack, in to jungle gym with long wall..That was one entire side of the map that's mostly unplayable for most killers. What exactly do you do with that many disgusting structures linked together exactly ?

Oh hell, I'm not even at the highest level of the game. Nowhere near it. Prior to MMR, I never played DbD enough in a month to hit red ranks. It's always been a side game for me.

So, I should be categorized as a clear casual, right? As someone with overall limited experience, not a regular player during any time owning the game, and not high MMR.

Well, SBMM has put me against survivors where I can barely get one or two hooks all match. Match after match after match. And hasn't adjusted. So, I said "eff it," and pretty much only play other games now. Any game, really, that isn't Dead by Daylight or in any way associated with Behavior Interactive.

I'm curious, do you have this message saved in a file somewhere, seeing as you spam it in every thread related to this issue?

I find it hilarious. All they do is ######### and moan about how miserable their experience was for over a year and then wish it on everyone else. I can't imagine feeling so married to a mere video game that you would be miserable and yet keep playing. It's pathetic.

I don't like what MMR did to the game. So, I play DbD a hell of a lot less. I'm no longer contributing to the MAU metrics BHVR needs to help secure future licenses, and I'm no longer spending money on BHVR. There are too many games out there, fun games, to be miserable in Dead by Daylight.

  • The final test of MMR went well. Live MMR is a joke.

It isn't MMR that is a meme at this point, it's BHVR.

I was a big supporter of MMR. I enjoyed test number 3 but this version which should be the same is just garbage. I wish I had listened to @Pulsar and @BrokenSouI they both tried to warn me. Killer is a complete snorefest (pallet drop, hold W) and has made killer a pallet kicking simulator for most killers.

I have been playing mostly Survivor I'm not saying that is fun all the time but way better than killer I have equipped Q&Q, Head on to have some fun. Outside of that this game will die for me.

Yep, I've arrived at the same place. 😡

  • Working? I'm not even confident is actually exists in the first place. The longer this has gone on, the more I feel like there isn't an SBMM and it was just an excuse to finally hide the matchmaking and (hopefully) stop the complaints about it.

  • @Sluzzy said:

Survivors are leaving the game with MMR.

But not in high enough numbers. There are over 78k people playing on Steam right now, and that doesn't even consider however many console players.

Believe me, I truly want BHVR to suffer for this fiasco, but it doesn't appear likely to happen. If people are leaving, it isn't even a blip in the player count.

  • Since the second day of SBMM, I am tossed against team after team after team where I have to sweat by balls off and still can't get more than 1 or 2 hooks. This went on for 20-30 games (all on Myers), on the 9th and 10th, and my MMR never did go down. Every match was just the same level of survivors.

The 8th (launch day) was fine, and the matches were balanced and close. I don't know what happened for day 2 and 3, but it was a nightmare with no downward adjustment.

Look, I'm casual. I never played enough in a month to ever hit red ranks, and many, many of my games were not 4k's. I never sweated for them and never played meta builds. If a 4k happened, fine. But most the time, I would allow the last survivor to get the hatch. And since I like to play Myers, any Laurie's in the match got an automatic escape from me in the end.

I liked to do a rotation of 10 killers, and I did whatever perk build struck my fancy at that moment in the lobby. My MMR was never going to be high by any stretch of the human imagination. Yet, SBMM apparently tossed me into that end of the pool as of Day 2 and won't fix the mistake.

So, I haven't logged in since Day 3 of SBMM, September 10th. And right now, I don't know when I will login again.

The old system was not based on skill, so red rank survivors could still be potatoes. It was a very basic system that had zero balance to it. The new system has to determine the skill of tens of thousands of players, and then try to figure out where you fit in with them. It will take some time to sort everyone out. I mean, we can't have 100% faith that the devs created a good system, but we do have to give it some time to work before condemning it.

The issue is, their last test before release didn't act like this version at all. From a majority of reports, it worked and the matches were fair. And they had tens-of-thousands of people on for that test as well. So, if that test worked well on the same live servers with damn near just as many live players, it should not be having so many issues now with MMR settings. It already worked, and worked well.

This version is acting just like the horrendous, original SBMM that they released in August 2020, and then quickly disabled for not working right.

Plus it takes like 10+ minutes to find a match and then you get stomped by survivors way out of your league in a 5 minute match and have to wait 10 more minutes for the same thing.

I know I'm not a good killer alot has to do with my lack of map knowledge but how do I get better when I don't want to play because I'm out classed ever match I get.

A lot of people have been talking about that vhs game, but personally I'm more excited about the evil dead game that's coming out next year. They're very different games but so far the gameplay they revealed for the evil dead game seems like a lot of fun, definitely has potential.

I'm extremely interested in both of those. VHS because it looks like a lot of fun on the gameplay video I watched the Dev team do for a match. I already joined their Discord (I rarely join a Discord) and signed up for the Beta.

Evil Dead: The Game I am excited for. I already have a Friends & Family group waiting to jump into that one.

I'm also interested in Charlie: The Legend, which releases on October 1st. Though being a one-man dev team, I'm going to wait a few weeks and see if that one can get, or maintain, any sort of player base for its proposed $35 price tag. I think he might be pricing himself a bit high for an unknown commodity.

  • @pseudechis said:

Ok so I decided to pause get my head in a good place because hey its only a game and its meant to be fun.

So after coming back for several more games I'm still getting destroyed, with often only 1 hook to show for it.

What does the SBMM system key off of... chases won, hits, hooks, kills?

And does it decrease at all?

Because the last run of games have me getting 1 hook and only a couple of downs that escaped due to sabo and insta heals.

After 4 or 5 games of this should I expect to "derank" in MMR rating or do you win a few games hit a max and then are just screwed till reset?

I appreciate the fact that these teams have just smashed the gens and left with very little trolling. Its a deserved GG they played well, but it doesn't feel like the promised balance SBMM is meant to bring.

I'm genuinly curious how it works at this point.

Survivors are starting to appologise to me for the bad match up its like some bizarro universe.

Between the 9th and 10th (after the night of the 8th being close and fair matches), my Myers has been against survivors where, match after match for 20-30 matches, I an sweating my balls off just for 1 or 2 hooks in a match.

And in no time during all that did it adjust my MMR lower. It was like it boosted my MMR after the balanced matches that I won on the 8th (and they were all very, very close games as they should have been) to put me into an MMR where I can't even manage hooks in a match. And has left me there to rot.

The system isn't adjusting me back downward at all. And if, from my 20-30 matches of my arse getting absolutely steamrolled, it doesn't understand that I am not of the MMR level, I'm not inclined to keep playing and chewing glass for it to eventually (maybe) finally figure it out.

And I'm sure as hell not doing this on my entire killer roster.

I haven't logged in since Friday night. I gave up.

  • @Orion said:

Or it finds a sudden and consistent decrease in skill too obvious.

If that would be the case with the system, then it needs some tweaking and is way too sensitive.

First night of its release, all seemed okay for me. No match was a stomp, all were close and could have gone either way. All five of us were within 2k to 3k of each other in ending BP totals.

But on the 9th and 10th, it went south. Suddenly I'm in matches where I am lucky to get 1 or 2 hooks in a match. And match after match, stomp after stomp against me, nothing changed. I played somewhere between 20-30 matches with Myers just to try to get some stabilization and balanced matches again like the first night, and nothing even remotely like that occurred. It was like the system boosted my MMR up after the first night on Myers, and despite all the constant stomps I ate across all those subsequent matches in a two day period, has refused to adjust me lower in the slightest.

I haven't logged in since Friday night, and see no reason to at this point.

Per a "system scan," my skill level would have suddenly decreased. But at the same time, the skill of my opponents massively increased. And my MMR is not adjusting downward in response to any of that. And I am not attempting to throw in the slightest. I am simply that constantly outmatched.

  • Nope. Killer. First night of its release, all seemed okay for me. No match was a stomp, all were close and could have gone either way. All five of us were within 2k to 3k of each other in ending BP totals.

  • Pretty much, yeah.

  • This was a tough one because I only got one vote. 🤣

I voted Evil Dead: The Game because I already have a Friends & Family group awaiting its release with me. So, it'll be a blast for us, being diehard Evil Dead fans.

But I am also very looking forward to VHS, even joined their Discord (a rarity for me) and signed up for the Beta and would love to get to test it.

I'm also very interested in Charlie: The Legend that launches on October 1st. It's going to be interesting to see if that gets a player base since he is a one-man development team. My understanding is that its launch price on Steam will be $35. So, that might be a barrier to some, with him being so small and an unknown commodity.

You also have to factor in the survivors MMR. Maybe their MMR is too low. Combined with yours being too high, makes for a double-whammy MMR skew. The data being used for MMR is data gathered under rank based matchmaking, which means players who are boosted, or smurfed, or simply (un)lucky in matchmaking in the past, would have inaccurate data. In which cases, the system needs time, and new data to adjust.

There's also the issue of a killer baseline MMR. Meaning that MMR is not entirely separate for individual killers. It might be that this baseline isn't calibrated correctly, and so BHVR will need to address that. If it's consistently skewed like this for you, that could be the issue. The baseline could be based on time played, or devotion level or something like that (who knows), which might explain why certain player groups, such as mid-level killers with a lot of time in the game, might have upwardly skewed MMR.

Maybe I lucked out, with an average killer skill level, and an 'average' total play time (I've been playing one year exactly now, which isn't much compared to a lot of people), means I have a more accurate killer baseline.

You mention it shouldn't be a 'roll of the dice', but that's exactly what the old matchmaking system was. Most games weren't a fair trial, it was either seal team teabag, or a sack of potatoes, and neither made for a satisfying game. This might still need tweaks, but at least it's not a complete crapshoot.

I get what you're saying. And while I expected to chew glass, I wasn't looking to chew it as severely as I have been so far. So, I think I'm just going to take another extended break. Maybe check back after the New Year, let a majority of the current player base stabilize and settle first, then come back later and worry about my own.

Right now, it's just too much of a wreck for me.

  • @Seraphor said:

Seems to be working a charm for me. So I'd say it's here to stay for the long haul.

People are really overreacting about MMR. It's just slightly more accurate matchmaking, mainly by removing the extreme outliers (getting absolutely demolished or demolishing potatoes). There's no negatives to that. It removes the matchmaking as a deciding factor in the outcome of a match (I lost because I went against higher skilled survivors, not because I played badly, etc.) and instead your own performance is a much bigger factor, as it should be.

Even the streamers who were fanatically against it in the past are saying it's not that bad.

Hasn't worked that way for me. The first night of release, the 8th, everything seemed fine. No stomp matches, all were close games. I was happy.

But on the 9th and 10th, I've played a total of 20-30 matches with Myers, who I also played on the 8th. Match after match, I can barely get 1 or 2 hooks before it's match over. And at no point in those two days did my MMR seem to drop or anything even remotely stabilize to being fair or balanced.

I'd also like to point out that I have never hit red ranks, never went on win streaks, never cared whatever the heck the meta perks were, and always just played whatever Killer or build struck me at the time on the Killer screen. Many times, I would just meme around and let some survivors escape. I've never taken this game seriously. I have symmetrical PvP games for serious play.

So, why after that first night where SBMM seemed to be working, have my next two nights of 20-30 games suddenly been complete stomps against me where I can barely get hooks? And the MMR has not seemed to drop at all, on the same Killer?

Something isn't working right. It's good that some of you are having SBMM function has it should, but having it function as intended should not be a roll of the dice.

  • Unless their player count seriously diminishes, and thus far it has not, I don't see them removing SBMM after almost two years of investing time and resources into it.

But that's okay. I have other games to play until Evil Dead releases in early 2022.

  • Ironically, F13 is less dead than Home Sweet Home: Survive. 🤣

me too. pretty fair matches to begin with but now 3 in a row i got destroyed by players i clearly shouldnt be matched with. lets just say i have to wait 5 minutes to play again.

Oh, I feel you. My final match with Myers last night, another stomp against me, ended with me having a 5-minute no-queue penalty. That was fine, because it was going to be a hell of a lot longer than 5 minutes before I tried to play again.

  • @Cele said:

When does MMR balance itself out? Approximately how many matches/losses does it take?

I've been playing Myers today for his daily and a few tome challenges, like hit survivors while they are exposed. I've been matched with really sweaty teams and good players since MMR went live and honestly I'm getting pretty tired of it. No matter which killer I choose. I have no problem admitting that I suck, but I would at least appreciate to be given a chance. Is that too much to ask?

Welcome to my world. I've never taken this game seriously.

First night of SBMM on the 8th, the matches seemed fine for a player like me.

But games on the 9th and 10th? Forget about it. Now, match after match after match, I'm lucky to get 1 or 2 hooks against these survivors. That has gone on for a total of about 20-30 matches so far, with absolutely no change in match "skill quality" occurring. I even stuck to one killer, Myers, just to hope for some fair-and-balanced stabilization.

It's become apparent to me that despite getting stomped match after match, my MMR on Myers is not lowering.

Keep in mind, I play casually. I don't sweat a 4k, don't run meta perks, and generally just play whatever killer and perk loadout strikes me at the moment. Always have played that way.

Nope. I'm done. I don't know what the hell is going on with my SBMM the past two days, but I'm finished wasting my time on it.

  • There are couple on the horizon like VHS and Evil Dead: The Game, but nothing current. Everything else that was on the market is pretty much dead.

  • Evil Dead 2.

And I absolutely love Ash vs Evil Dead. I think I've watched those three seasons about five or six times by now, and sometimes have it on in the background when reading in bed at night.

I didn't care about the remake. Saw it just to see it, promptly discarded it. I didn't hate it, but for me Evil Dead is Ash vs the Deadites.

It's about the same way I feel about the upcoming Evil Dead movie that takes place in a city, and again without Ash since Bruce retired from the role. Unless is it is a brand new continuity, it would have to ignore Ash vs Evil Dead all of a sudden considering the military got involved in fighting the Kandarian demon when it went all kaiju form at the end of the show. So, no way I see this stuff being a secret anymore.

Well, I would readily accept more of Kelly and Pablo, even without Ash. Those characters were nicely established as additions to the lore.

The fact that my Friends & Family group can play as Ash, Kelly, and Pablo in Evil Dead: The Game is really sweet. Goooooo Ghostbeaters!

That is saying almost too much. I fear the day I start comparing the hell that is Overwatch to this game. Glad I am still fresh to this one. Because I see the signs!

And that is why when I do play Overwatch nowadays, it's only with the six-stack Friends & Family team. And we just mess around in Quick Play Classic and Mystery Heroes.

None of them will touch DbD, and as of the past few days, I would pimp-slap them if they tried. We are waiting for Evil Dead: The Game, though. Huge horror and Evil Dead fans in this family.

I hear you. I take breaks now and then, but honestly, the game is unplayable for me in it's current state. I don't spend my free time on a game where I have to endure a bunch of little jerks abusing other players for their own personal amusement. And I know for a fact this behaviour runs both ways (I've seen survivors be absolutely terrible people to Killers).

I feel like this system is rewarding bad manners at this point.

I have to agree. And yeah, for us at least, it's simply unplayable in this state.

At this point, I'd rather forego the Overwatch Friends & Family team and subject myself to playing with five other randoms in that game than deal with another day of what's happening with my SBMM here.

And if you've ever played Overwatch as a solo, that's saying a lot.

I had really high hopes and a positive expectation of SBMM. I sincerely wanted to believe the hype, and the pamphlets BHVR released singing it's praises.

But it has truly been nothing but a misery for me as a Solo queue survivor. Never in my wildest dreams did I think things could get worse, but BHVR apparently excels at that.

My first 5-6 matches after SBMM wa implemented seemed pretty balanced and fun. Then something happened and the past two days? It's been hell. Not a single fun or fair game. Every Killer is a Rank 1 (formerly I suppose) and the camping and tunneling is off the charts. I just played 5 matches and gave up. Every single Killer not only camping and tunneling survivors at 5 gens out of the game, they've all had atrociously bad manners. hitting people while they camp them, one left me as the last survivor to bleed out while he just stood there in front me watching for the full 204 mins (whatever length it is).

I don't know what the hell is happening anymore.

My post a couple spots above yours shows pretty much the same thing for me, but as Killer. The 8th was nice and seemed fair. But the 9th and 10th have been an absolute debacle, MMR is clearly not adjusting down for me, and I'm not logging in today for a Round 3 of this mess. I honestly don't know when I'll be logging in again. My last break was for nine months.

Exactly, the queue times were more or less the same as live from the test, as they indicated. And yet, now? Clearly something has changed.

Something is most definitely not right.

To save typing time, but to explain what I've been experiencing, this is a cut-and-paste from another thread.

First night of SBMM on the 8th, I was getting 3k and hatch or 4k, always at 1 gen left, all night. Didn't matter which killer. But the BPs scores were all very close between the five of us, so didn't feel unbalanced. It felt balanced and okay. The survivors just tended to fall apart at the 1-gen remaining because they always managed to 3-gen themselves. It wasn't even something I actively tried to make happen.

Keep in mind, I play casually. I don't sweat a 4k, don't run meta perks, and generally just play whatever killer and perk loadout strikes me at the moment. Always have played that way.

This has not been fun. It's been tedious and causing me to rethink playing further.

  • Well, we had the last test to go on, which most player reports said went well.

Unfortunately, what they put Live is acting more like the failed, original SBMM from August 2020, that they quickly turned off to redesign and (claim) to have trashed.

A system that incentivizes losing is a failed design.

Yeah, and this one definitely does.
