Each killer is to have its own rank so that you don't have to worry about getting stomped while practicing a new killer. When the SBMM goes live tomorrow, will the Killers you normally play with already reflect that, or is everyone starting with a clean slate?
They've been collecting data on your play time for quite a while now. Like with the last test for SBMM, your Killers' MMRs will be based on your already correlated play time with them.

BHVR also decided that the Resident Evil chapter was fine and in an acceptable state for Console players.
Dude, I'm not defending BHVR's decision making. I'm just stating the obvious. SBMM goes live in less than 24 hours. BHVR's decisions on how it's going Live is clear at this point. It's not going to change at this point in time. At this point, it's just time to decide if you (a general "you") will continue under the SBMM as it is right now, or move on and speak with your play time and money.

I was talking months ago too.
You have been vocal for some time, and I'm not stating that like it's a bad thing. But it's been discussed ad nauseam and BHVR has made their decisions on how it is being handled and how it's going into the Live game.
So, all the remains now is for players like yourself to who are strongly against it to make a decision: Do you keep playing DbD under BHVR's terms for the SBMM system, or do you move on to a different game?
That's the only thing left at this stage.

I wonder how many of these killers were simply taking advantage of the extremely common and entitled "I can unhook in your face and you have to be nice and go after me" mentality.
My favorite one was a Leatherface match in late 2020 or so. I hooked a Bill fairly quickly. I turn around to go hunting, and there are scratch marks all over the area leading to the wall right behind the hook. I investigate.
Long story short, all three Survivor rushed the hook en masse against a Leatherface. One chainsaw swipe later, I had one hooked, three slugged (then hooked), and a 4k.
I hated that the match ended so quickly, but I won't take pity on abject stupidity. End match boards come up: two reds, a purple, and a green. The Bill was the green. You'd think the reds and the purple would have known better, but nope.
My match chat is always closed and my Steam profile is completely private to prevent posts from people, but I can imagine the myriad ways they'd have found to call me a lousy bubba camper. 🤷♂️

I like my Xbox, but I also like my PC. I play DBD on Xbox mainly because my PC is so garbage it wouldn't even run DBD.
My kids always did both. Three of them are adults now (28, 23, and 21) and my youngest is 11, and all four of them still do a mixture of Xbox and PC gaming.
For the 11-year-old, his friends are on PC gaming. They do Overwatch (custom games), Roblox, and and Friday Night Funkin', though the last one is single player right now, I believe.

I hope so. The only damned reason I come to these forums when I'm bored is to witness the constant train wrecks of whining. 🤣🤣

Yeah but they get good games too. like Age of Empires 2. Which I don't get on my Xbox. So it's worth every penny.
I don't play consoles. I am, and always have been, a PC gamer. And not on a laptop, either.
I do that because (1) I really hate console controllers, but also (2) I can upgrade my PC as I want or need to. I don't have to keep buying a NextGen console for upgrades.

"Bro but the world of warcraft is going offfffff" I don't care for Blizzard not do I care for Activision. Since Call of duty is as stale as moldy bread, and Overwatch isn't something I like playing alone. Best case scenario they implode and it all seeps into Valve.
I'm almost 50, so I remember when Blizzard was a good brand with very fun games.
I left WoW during BFA and uninstalled. Hearthstone is not for me. I did my time in Magic and such a long time ago, not interested in going back. Heroes of the Storm was "okay," but MOBAs are not for me. And, I played their RTS games when they first came out a long time ago, those days are in the past. As for Diablo, I'm not a huge fan of loot grinders anymore. That, too, has passed.
Nowadays, Overwatch is the only thing on my Bnet launcher, and I only play that game if the six-stack Friends & Family group is on. It's a social thing, and we just putz around in Quick Play Classic and Mystery Heroes for an hour or two, when we do play.
But, as I said, we're a six-stack of friends and my adult kids. So the change to 5v5 in Overwatch 2 eliminates that. So, once OW2 releases, that's the end of us and Blizzard games.

Blizzard failing at things? I'm Shocked, oh well, we can rebuild. The power of the sun In the palm of my hand.
Blizzard is falling apart right now. I've played their games since 1994, and at this point even I'm not sure they're not going to eventually just be absorbed by Activision and disappear as a brand at some point down the line. Given current events for them, constantly falling MAU's, slow releases, there is no way Activision is happy with them or the brand.

Bricking a console or PC basically means you can't use it anymore. Microsoft and Sony Brick consoles that have been Jail breaked (modded) so they can't access the online features ever again. Now when I say bricked I mean kind of like what overwatch does. Where if one profiles gets banned for cheating the whole PC can never play overwatch again. I think it was overwatch anyways
It isn't Overwatch. I (sadly) know of several cheaters in OW that just purchased a new copy of the game on a new Bnet account and were right back to playing.
I believe Blizzard did try that at one point in the past, but there were upcoming legal issues for families that share a PC, have different Bnet accounts on it for individual family members, and so forth. Either way, it isn't a current thing for OW.

Very true. And I never have an issue with an opinion different than my own. If everyone always agreed, the world would be a boring place. I'm pushing 50. I don't know your age, but I personally miss the days of honest debate.

Nah, sure even in unranked matchmaking everyone is playing seriously, because the game is like that : you have to put yourself at 100%, or you'll be destroyed, but players are more less entitled to a victory. By that I mean you won't get a "GG EZ" in the end, or "you played like an [insert what you what]", ...
Where in the ladder matchmaking, the ranked, you play your rank, you play strictly hoping that one day you'll be n°1. That's why SBMM emphasize.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2472953#Comment_2472953
Overwatch players are a big joke, its community is one of the worst I've ever known. It instantly made me stop the game... Overwatch has the bigger haters possible, as LoL.
I remember that SBMM is a ladder, where you have a n°1, a second, ... Current ranking is just "you're rank 1, as are many other players" so you don't tryhard that much.
But SBMM, you can always increase your skill score, and that emphasize tryhard, and in some way, unhealthy gameplay, where casual players will must throw some games to decrease their scores, if they want some cool games.
If you implement a SBMM matchmaking, you have to implement an unranked matchmaking. I'm sorry.
Eh. Shrug. You and I are opposites on the community and players perspective. That's actually how I feel about DbD, which is why it's only ever been a side game for me.

I used to play StarCraft 2, the only "casual" lobbies are vs your friends, that's not an actual casual lobby. Apex has casual lobbies filled with sweats. I've never seen a true casual lobby in ANY game honestly.
I'll toss you another one. Competitive in Overwatch has become an absolute meme. Know where the Competitive sweats went? Into RoleQ Quick Play, and even into the hell of a lot more casual Quick Play Classic in the Arcade mode section.
And they still sweat like it's a Comp mode.

Again, why does it matter if we can see it though?
We know that the system is flawed already. If you wanted to de-rank, just AFK.
Oh, I didn't say it mattered. I don't have an issue with seeing it. My original comment was tongue-in-cheek on "has to be" made public. It doesn't "have to be," people just "want it to be." There's a difference.
The game is playable either way, thus the Overwatch example I gave.
But if BHVR were to make it visible, I wouldn't have a dog in that fight either. People are going to de-rank their MMR regardless. It isn't hard to do, in any MMR system out there, hidden or visible. It's just flamin' tedious to do.

Likewise, in Competitive, you do.
There's no reason to not show it, especially since SBMM is really only used in competitive games. They need to pick a side, is this game casual or not? If it is, no need for SBMM. If it isn't, remove the RNG aspects.
Correct. But adding SBMM here didn't suddenly make it a Competitive mode. It's the same concept as the MMR system in, say, Overwatch. The MMR system in RoleQ Quick Play is there to try to facilitate fair matches.
They did pick a side: casual. Adding SBMM doesn't change that when other casual modes in games also have an MMR calculation to facilitate fair matches.
-
Well, no, it doesn't have to be. Just that some of you want it to be.
When I play Quick Play in Overwatch, I have zero clue what my MMR is. Blizzard doesn't show it. And 5+ years later, I'm still playing the game.

and i think its an absolutely awful idea to balance around a kill / escape goal in general
They've admitted that they used to judge by this, but have since stopping doing so replacing it with a system that judges your performance based on a number of objectives throughout the game.
I wish I could find the thread on here, but yeah it was a Dev themselves that confirmed it won't be judged solely off of kills and escapes.
Of course, they won't tell us all the parameters they're judging by, but you know at least even they recognize kills and escapes don't mean everything.
Here you go: Does SBMM only take in to account kills and escapes ? — Dead By Daylight

You need to understand that BHVR decided to balance towards the casual part of the community, which makes sense.
The top % is irrelevant for them.SBMM is pretty much designed for that reason aswell,to improve the experience of casual players (meaning,it should prevent those games where 200 hours players went against 6000+ hours players). You can't deny that this is,overall, the best option for the game.
I also can't see how BHVR is supposed to find a way to balance top % levels of play AND casual levels of play.It would be a wastw of time imo.
DbD is and will always be a casual game.
And that is why I welcome SBMM. I've always played DbD as a casual game. Some nights, I just want to screw around with different add-on combos with Myers and see how it goes. Some nights, I might want to play Huntress or Deathslinger (I rarely play either) and just see how many off-the-wall hatchet hits I can get or quick-scope shots I can land. And so forth.
I never cared what the perk-meta was, and never chased after the 4k to feel like I had fun in a match.
When I want to play more serious PvP, I would login to Overwatch, Apex, and such. Not the 4v1, heavy RNG, Dead by Daylight.

Are we both going to sit here and pretend that if this new system works as intended, you'll be able to play whoever you want with whatever perks you want, against the best survivors, and not have your experience be a miserable ordeal? If we're going to play make believe, I'd at least like to know.
The fact of the matter is this: most killers in this game have a very well defined skill ceiling - you'll almost never be able to beat certain teams or players, perks notwithstanding, with a majority of the cast. They have barriers on their efficacy based on the power they're given, and not even the best meta builds can propel them beyond a certain point. This is by design, and you could debate whether or not this is intentional on BVHR's end or just due to ignorance of how the game is played on the killer's end.
Survivors have a much higher skill ceiling than all but the most powerful killer (nurse). That is why she is the most picked killer in tournaments, and that is why competitive players gravitate toward her. There -IS- a point where player's skill with this killer can eclipse that of the survivor, and thus it justifies picking her up, learning her, and mastering her power. Other killers (save maybe Spirit) don't have this benefit, and so you will always be artificially capped on how well you'll do.
If you're only counterpoint to this is "yeah, but you don't have to play X and Y way to win." That already tells me that you're not one of the people that will be affected by these changes. More importantly, this outlook shows a lack of concern for all players that will be at the top end, waiting for longer matches, having longer (arguably less fun but that's subjective) matches, and seeing little variance in killer/perk picks.
But hey, to each their own I suppose. My opinion on this whole SBMM situation is that the game isn't balanced enough to even consider implementing a system like this, nor will it ever be based on BVHR's track record of prior balance changes. DBD doesn't have to become the paragon of game balance, it just has to reach that "close enough" point where people are more satisfied than not with the game's current state. At the moment, firing this system off during this period in the game's life is not only reckless, but shows a massive disconnect (yet again) between the developers and the player base.
TLDR: You will read and love my novella god damnit.
I read your novella. Unfortunately, it's a story I've already seen released by countless other authors. It didn't do anything different and the characters didn't grab me. I have to give it a mere 2-stars. 😘

If you just noob around the mmr automatically will match you with the same sort of gamer. That way you can play together with other trolls and people like me get rid of you and instead matched with other tryhards.
So MMR is exactly what you want. Because if you don't play sweaty it won't match you with sweaty Killers or Survivors.
That's my thought. I don't worry about being a meta-slave. I try different perks on Myers, Freddy, Leatherface, Doc, etc cetera as the mood strikes me. I absolutely refuse to sweat for the 4k. SBMM seems like just what players like me need.

I think people will still try hard even if we had a casual mode, it reminds me of overwatch, I would have fun matches on competitive and sweaty on quick play.
That is still true today, if not even more so, as many have ditched Competitive mode at this point and just play sweaty in RoleQ quick play.

Could 100% be integrated into the KYF overhaul. Again, similar to Overwatch. They did a helluva good job with the workshop update.
True. But let's not forget that workshop came along, per Jeff Kaplan in an interview, because a few of the Devs had worked on it on their own, on the side, just for the heck of it. And it worked out so well that Team 4 decided to actually put it into the game. And of course, the official Dev support for it post-release has made it what it is today.
So far, I'm not seeing that kind of Dev dedication on DbD, where they're working on stuff for the game on their own time because they simply want to. Matter of fact, I think it was in the Anniversary stream (could be wrong on which stream, though) where Almo fielded a question about KYF enhancements and said that they wouldn't be spending resources on it because it is barely touched by players as it is.
Never mind the simple fact that it's very likely barely touched by the player base at this point because it sucks as currently implemented.
But if I scratched my head any more about the things this Dev team says, I'd probably make my scalp bleed.

Looking forward to it. Over the long-term, will I regret that? Very possible, but time will tell. For now, I'm looking forward to the release.
Disclaimer: I'm definitely a low-to-mid tier Killer. I've never sweated for the 4k (it's a whatever) nor been a meta-slave. I just play to run around as Myers and other icons. If I lose, I lose.

I feel this is where F13 was good in requiring parts or tools to escape. Certainly doable with how Pinhead's box mechanically spawns in. Could do the same with tools or spare parts that gen's would require to fully repair.
F13 was more fun pretty much across the board for me, both sides. Damned shame it was doomed under Gun Media and Illfonic.

Probably the Tall Man will never be added. Shame, because Phantasm will always hold a special place with me.

I went back and read that July Developer Update again. Now, I'm starting to feel like it was a misunderstanding. They redid the two tutorials, and then added the vs Bots where you are either Dwight or Trapper. I have the sinking feeling the Dwight/Trapper modes were their version of "offline bots mode."

It's a high risk, high reward style of play.
Personally, I don't use Hex Totems. With spawn locations being RNG and still (usually) a #########-show, I don't bother with the Hex style of play in DbD.

When I was young, I would analyze the hell out of something I enjoyed and dissect it until I fully understood every little thing about. At one time I was somewhat intelligent. Those days are long gone.
I know a lot of you still analyze the hell out of DBD. My question is really this. Of those of you who break the game down tile by tile, power by power, do you do this to be a better and more competent player, because it’s simply your nature, or for feelings of a type of superiority?
I don’t do it anymore simply because I learned to let my mind relax. Superiority is a young person’s game in my mind now. I’m very much a casual player in all games now.
I did that in Overwatch. Which is odd for me, because I'm in my 40s (almost 50 now) and tend to generally play games very casually. If I'm good, I'm good; if I'm bad, I'm bad. I usually don't care either way. But something about Overwatch since the day it launched shifted my brain, at least for that game, to analyze everything from hero counters, hero combos and synergy, maps and positions, etc.
I've never done that with DbD, though. Maybe it's because I only purchased the game due to Michael Myers. And I honestly, a majority of the time, just play Myers as my main, and then some Freddy, Amanda, Leatherface, and Ghostface, my favorite licensed killers (I don't play Nemesis, not a huge RE fan, never really cared about Pyramid Head in Silent Hill, and have little interest in Pinhead in the context of DbD).
So, I play DbD very casually and mainly just to play as some of my favorite horror film icons.
And Survivors escaping doesn't really phase me. Heck, someone usually always escapes the Slasher at the end, and poor Myers got his ass kicked in 2018 and left trapped in a burning house. 🤣
-
What made me fall in love with my main?
John Carpenter. 😁
-
If it was a skill move, then sure. But respect RNG handing out a mulligan? Not gonna happen.
-
It's a PvP game. Play how you want. I honestly never understood the whole "make sure the other side has fun, too" in a PvP game that these forums toss out there.
If I am on Widowmaker in Overwatch, and I am pretty much keeping the enemy team on a near permanent respawn cycle, I'm not going to suddenly start missing shots, assuming poor map positions so they can dive me, or switch off of Widowmaker in the match simply because the enemy team is probably not "having fun" that match.
Now, granted, I've never gone out of my way to slug, camp, or tunnel in DbD, but if I did feel like it in the rare match, I'm going to do so.
-
Honestly, I only visit the Dead by Daylight and Overwatch forums (the only two video game forums I visit at all for the past five years) just to watch the never-ending train wrecks. Threads here about console optimization issues are 100% warranted, but Survivor-this, killer-that, unfair-this-and-that, I just watch it explode and move on.
I never let a game forum, which is the very loud (but whiny) minority in pretty much all video game cases, have an effect on whether or not I enjoy a game. I play, and then form my own opinions and feelings on the game.
But by the gods if the DbD and OW forums aren't like watching a bunch of Karens descend on and scream at a poor employee. You know you should walk away from the disaster, but you just can't.
