I play like that because I get toxic swf every game. It's the toxic circle of DBD. Don't care about anybody but yourself. Ruin their enjoyment before they ruin yours.

And that's the thing. I don't understand the "worry about the other side's enjoyment" in a PvP game. Heck, when I'm in Overwatch, and I'm Widowmaker clicking heads, sometimes to the point that I won't let them back out of the spawn room, am I supposed to worry about their enjoyment? Or maybe that they wanted to play Roadhog or Wrecking Ball instead of being forced into Reinhardt or Sigma just to counter my sniping with a shield?

DbD is a PvP game. And if someone is choosing to play to win and using "unfun tactics" that facilitate that, them's the breaks. Yes, it absolutely sucks to be on the receiving end of it. I've been there, too. But if you can't handle that nature of the genre, well . . . PvP isn't for everyone.

I have definitely had weeks where literally every single killer is facecamping or tunnelling, and right now I've had a straight month of survivors just W/predropping. Only encountering extremely miserable playstyles definitely happens.

EDIT: Damn it. It quoted the wrong post. I'll try this again in a minute.

The last few updates have all had very clear, upfront and quick feedback from the community. And every single time it has taken the Devs so long to finally admit there are issues and buckle up to actually address them.

    The MMR disaster

The Blight Bugs, Botched Camera and Overpowered Add-On

The Twins and Elodie's ridiculous set of bugs (probably the worst new content in the game's history at launch)

    The HUD disaster

The Trickster and Yun Jin being a dumpster fire balancing wise.

It's very clear to me that the people that keep making these decisions aren't being fired, reprimanded, demoted or even learning from their constant mistakes over the past 9 months.

    Seriously BHVR be better.

Well, on the bright side, I'm not entirely sure they can get any worse.

"Do you know of any other company that would keep its customers in the dark regarding upcoming content on purpose?"

So basically you just described what Hello Games did with No Man's Sky?

Hell, I have a better one for you: Blizzard with Overwatch. You have Overwatch one step above maintenance mode at this stage, with information about Overwatch 2 not coming unless it's an annual Blizzcon event, and even then the information is a joke.

So, a current game left to rot on purpose for a sequel that Blizzard doesn't want to give much real information on.

  • You're absolutely right, it is. I had a brain fart (was my 11 year old's birthday today, so I am wiped).

But the other point still stands. With its own game coming out, they're going to want people buying that, not some DLC for DbD.

  • What makes you think 20th Century Fox, i.e. Disney, is interested in the Xenomorph being in Dead by Daylight, especially with Alien getting its own asymmetrical game soon. Not to mention, you're now dealing with a license under the Disney umbrella, which might not even be affordable to Behavior.

But even if the licensing fees from Disney were within Behavior's price range, why would they even entertain granting it to DbD when its own asymmetrical PvP game is in development?

  • The way they post, I'm starting to wonder if they secretly work on the balance team. 😂

  • Nurse, Twins, Blight, and Trickster.

Nurse because I'm just not putting that kind of time into a single Killer. The other three because I just didn't find them fun when trying them on PTB.

Mainly, I bought DbD to play the horror icons of Myers, Freddy, Leatherface, Amanda, and Ghostface, though.

  • Silence Ashley J. Williams?

Hopefully MMR shows the devs the truth about how unbalanced this game really is.

Unfortunately, that is only one-step to a solution. The other would be BHVR to actually get done what needs to be done to fix the balance, and they obviously move at a speed that makes a snail look like the Flash.

I mean, maybe by the time my 10-year-old enrolls in college?

This is true but its more along the lines of might was well leave some shell of its former self behind then no shell at all, some people still played overwatch because it at least has gamemodes where you don't get yelled at for playing what you want instead of goats or something

You know, off topic, I haven't played Overwatch as a solo in over two years. Oh, I've played since its beta, don't get me wrong, but since early 2018 or so, I only login with the Friends & Family team. We only play QP, QPC, and Mystery Heroes. I walked away from Comp in 2017.

I bring that up because, as much as I hate SWFs over here, I do understand why it exists the way it does. I won't play Survivor here because it would have to be solo (none of my RL people care one bit about DbD).

    Just a random thought.

Anyway, with BHVR admitting that their player numbers are too low to allow them to add new game modes to DbD because of what it would do to queue times, them adding extra queue options would suffer the same problem. DbD has a serious core issue. They claim it's sold over 5 million copies. Yet, the player base is so low they can't do new game modes (or your queue options). DbD has a serious player retention issue. But I'm fairly convinced BHVR cares more about short term profits over long-term gain, so that retention problem is unlikely to ever change.

All of these asymmetrical horror games have turned out to be lackluster. We need a real developer to take a stab at it, someone with the financial backing and design experience to make it work.

That said if any come along where one of the strongest things you can do in the game is more involving than just holding the W key like in DBD it's probably worth making the switch.

What's interesting for me is that, generally, I'm not a fan of asymmetrical PvP games. I never played one before DbD, and only gave DbD a shot because of Myers (and then the other horror icons). If not for Myers, I would never have bought DbD.

But DbD has made me curious about Home Sweet Home: Survival. Can they do it better? I mean, I liked Friday the 13th a hell of a lot more than this game as far as gameplay went (again, tried it because I'd already experienced this game), but that game died in a bad way.

Evil Dead: The Game I just want for the co-op PvE with some family members. Not sure I'll delve too heavily into its asymmetrical PvP mode.

As far as PvP goes, my tastes go more toward the even-teams of things like Overwatch, Paladins, or Heroes of the Storm. But I also tend to play them entirely with my Friends & Family group.

because they always find a way to drain fun from games, what happed to overwatch due to competitive play, everyone starts yelling and pointing fingers even in casual, hero stacking removed from casual and competitive, role lock in casual in a casual gamemode you can't have 6 people allowed to do what they want. Sure their quickplay modes have hidden mmr but if you played overwatch at release vs is current state, the game slowly lost what soul it had to it, and the turning point was competitive, if you think dbd is toxic now, just you wait and see what a ranked mode can do. Games with competitive usually stop being follow the fun and start being boring

Correct. But my point is, even back at Overwatch's launch before they got competitive put in because they had to redesign aspects of it and it wasn't ready, Quick Play at launch still used a hidden MMR system for matchmaking.

Now, you say competitive drained the soul out of OW, which I agree with. But what you're proposing, in essence, is a separate competitive and casual mode. Meaning, you're asking to take DbD down the precise path that OW suffered.

  • @Dizzy1096 Luckily, I have Home Sweet Home: Survive to screw around in if it ever releases, Evil Dead: The Game potentially in 2021, and Overwatch 2 next year. So, when DbD pisses me off enough (which likely isn't too far off), I can just make it a memory.

You would hope so and I have heard a lot of people share that hope but honestly I think the designers have clocked out at this point. The game will be milked its final few years and little will change.

And sadly, we are in total agreement on this. Luckily, I have Home Sweet Home: Survive to screw around in if it ever releases, Evil Dead: The Game potentially in 2021, and Overwatch 2 next year.

If you saw tru3's stream today you can see this in action.

    "maybe tru3 just sucks"

Eh watch the survivors he went against and the maps he's on. All of the killers crippling weaknesses were brought to light. It's no different to what we see in tournaments where supposedly unstoppable killers like Freddy are last to get picked like the fat kid in football. It's Nurse or bust. Maybe Spirit but the rest are pretty junk at the top level.

Under that same token, maybe the MMR system is needed then so the stats that the Devs worship like a religion can finally show killers as they are, and they can finally see what we've been trying to tell them.

  • @bjorksnas said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2033838#Comment_2033838

So mmr is a bad idea got it, because what we have right now is basically casual and they are making a ranked for a majority of the playerbase that doesn't want it

Why do you equate MMR with a hyper-competitive mode? I'm curious because in some of the other games I play, Overwatch and Paladins for example, their Quick Play casual modes use a hidden MMR system, whereas their competitive modes create matches based on player rank.

i don't think there is gonna be so much bad matches to get your actuall mmr. What can i say about survivors - tryhard less and don't play swf

I haven't played in many months, and even before I left only played DbD as a side game (Overwatch is my main game on my limited gaming time). When I return when MMR goes into full live mode, I fully expect a miserable experience at first until my MMR settles on several killers.

But I have yet to experience an MMR system in any game where the initial period of the system figuring out your actual MMR wasn't a hellhole. So, nothing new there in video games.

Personally I have noted the last times I have faced real good competent teams in the past 6 months, it was twice, if I tally matches within the past 6 months from a single killer only I averaged 9200 blight hits, most likely 15-20 hits a game or around 9200/17.5 games or around 500 games, you are telling me that because of on average facing some one might be facing a sweaty team 1 in around 250 games they shouldn't have a split system because of 0.4% of killer matches.

In a data set where the outliers are so far away they aren't statistically significant enough to even bother with we should make an entire new unwanted by many enjoyed by few system with no choice for alternative options.

Fair enough. I don't have such data and don't have the patience to collect it, so I will nod to your information.

But BHVR still won't do it. They said creating new game modes is something they don't want to do because it would split the player base and they really don't have the numbers to be able to afford it. It would make queue times everywhere way too high. So, if that's true and they acknowledge there aren't enough players for that, I can't see them creating separate queueing systems, either.

Your idea is not a bad one, they just won't do it.

Nothing is ever perfect but MMR is a lot better at matchmaking then the the older system.

Oh, I agree with you. No argument from me. I'm on a break since early December mainly BECAUSE of the current matchmaking. I'm looking forward to MMR and intend to return at that time.

I was just responding because it sounds like some people (not necessarily this OP) expect fair matches 24/7. Temper expectations, was my point.

  • I main Myers with a side of Doc. Sometimes an extra side of Legion.

Needless to say, I have no delusions of getting into a high MMR. 😂🤣

  • @landromat said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2033717#Comment_2033717

that doesn't make sense since every killer has own mmr

But it does make sense. Since the MMR has been using data created by the extremely flawed current rank-as-matchmaker system, someone who has had a lot of wins on, say, Legion due to getting much weaker opponents under the current, broken system, will end up starting under MMR with a High MMR on Legion (due to those undeserved successes).

But yet, in reality, Legion is not anywhere near strong enough to take on High MMR survivors and SWFs. So, that Legion player is now out of their depth.

Nurse and Spirit, and to a degree Freddy, are the very few killers who can take on High MMR survivors, especially SWFs. So, High MMR survivors are going to end up facing a ton of them most likely. Meanwhile, many of the other killers will continue to rot between low and mid MMR.

And until MMR settles, a lot of those weaker killer players who started with a high MMR because of the flawed data collected to get to the point of MMR launch, are going to have some hated matches. Meanwhile, I imagine High MMR survivors are going to get tired of killers like Spirit and Nurse very quickly.

DbD has a host of killer design issues, and I think MMR is going to really highlight that.

  • @JPLongstreet said:

My concern would be sweat lord killers invading the casuals to steamroll them, and sweat lord SWF doing the same. How would either be prevented?

You can't avoid that. It's the same thing that happens in Overwatch between sweatlord competitive players coming into Quick Play. Especially the stacked teams of them.

In the end, doing those options in DbD would solve nothing. It's still going to come down to luck of the draw on whether a casual player gets pitted against sweatlords.

i normally play 50/50 but i find myself playing killer alot more but man i have to ask

how do you put up with it?

the teabagging, the non tunneling yet you still get DS

survivors body blocking each other to save each other

i legit dont feel like a killer i feel like im just getting bullied

why can a survivor save another person off a hook even though i attack? i feel like i should be able to grab them even if their healthy like i dont even tunnel but they all hang around a hooked person so what do i do?

how do you deal with this??

Well, to be fair, I stopped putting up with it. For the past several months, I haven't touched DbD and have been in Overwatch a lot more.

But in general, that was when I started slugging and tunneling and camping. Oh, they don't like me doing that? Well, we're even. Having a fun match is a two-way street.

  • Well, as I said in another thread: It will not be perfect or close to it. Not ever.

Heck, over in Overwatch, my team plays Quick Play and Quick Play Classic, both of which use a hidden MMR system for matchmaking. And in either mode, we will get many lopsided stomp matches, either for or against us. Some nights, the entirety of the night is like that.

And that is a game with a far greater playerbase to create matches with.

How many players are in a particular MMR bracket?

How many are already assigned a match?

    How many are waiting?

How many have been waiting long enough that the MM range has broadened, and now scoops up more people outside that bracket?

    Et cetera.

There are a ton of variables that will make matches still be uneven stomps, and even in games with a much bigger playerbase.

  • @rglarson13 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2033186#Comment_2033186

A lot of people keep pointing to the 2k as the gold standard of fairness in a match, but logically it doesn't make much sense.

Because it's an symmetrical have, at some point the match either is or will become unbalanced.

It's either balanced for 4v1, meaning as soon as the killer gets a kill it tilts in his favor. Meaning once there's one kill there are likely to be more. This increases until there are no survivors left in the match.

Or maybe the game is balanced for 3v1. When the match starts with 4 survivors the killer is at a disadvantage, and has an uphill battle to overcome that issue. If he can't get a lucky break somewhere then the game will end with 0k. If he can kill 2 survivors then it's now in his favor and that last one is easier to get.

And the same story for if the game is balanced for 2v1.

I don't think anyone could make any argument for why the game is balanced for 1v1.

The point is that matches should be more likely to end with either a 0k or a 4k than anything in between.

Sure, maybe while you're chasing someone the other survivor us doing a gen, but that's not really balance -- the idea there is that the game proceeds in a predictable, linear fashion, with the killer requiring, e.g., 90 seconds to find, down, and hook a single survivor, while finding and completing a gen takes each survivor 100 seconds.

If that's the case (which really does seem to be how the devs view "BaLaNcE") then winning or losing a match hinges on RNG placement of generators at least as much as it does on a killer's ability to extend the time required to complete a gen of survivors who are outside of the chase or the survivors' ability to increase the killer's time between hooks.

But if that's the case, then there's no "balance" and we shouldn't expect a 2k to indicate an even match, because the distance between gens and a specific killer characters's mobility have much more to do with that time than the skill of the killer player.

Also, while the killer's ability to reduce time between hooks is limited, the survivors can fairly easily force the killer to spend extra time between hooks by quickly getting to multiple generators that are far apart, and maximize the overlap of time required for each gen completion, because while a killer can only hook one survivor at a time, survivors can complete up to 4 gens at once.

The reason the forum is pointing out the 2k as the gold standard for fairness is because in the past, the Devs have stated several times that they design around the goal of 2k-2e.

We see how that has worked out so far, but that standard came from the Devs, themselves.

  • @BlackMercury said:

I had the opposite experience. I have almost 3000 hours mostly on many different killers. I played some killers that I have done well with recently, but I was getting matched with people who had literally just started playing, they didn't seem to have a clue how to play. Playing as survivor was the same thing but the killer was experienced, just the other survivors weren't.

Some of that might just be luck of the draw as well. What I mean by that is that DbD isn't exactly pulling in, say, Overwatch number of players. So, it's only going to have so many players in each MMR bracket to make even(ish) matches with. As that number dwindles because they're now in a match, it's going to see longer queue times for some, at which point it then opens the range further to make matches.

MMR is always going to have some widely uneven matches. Hell, my team suffers that in Quick Play and Quick Play Classic in Overwatch where some matches, sometimes an entire night worth of matches, end up being complete stomps one way or the other. And those modes use a hidden MMR with a much larger playerbase to draw from.

  • @DragonMasterDarren said:

i've had 3 games, only 1 of which was any fun, the other 2 were sweaty as hell all for most of the survivors to escape, if MMR is going to be a thing then it still definitely needs some tweaking or all that people will see is Nurse Spirit and Freddy

I don't think it's a matter of tweaking the MMR so that high MMR people don't just see Nurse, Spirit, or Freddy. What they need to do is make more than just those three killers viable at a high MMR. Because unless a killer player is a one-trick with a specific killer and has become a master with them, my general understanding is that those are the three killers even remotely viable against high MMR survivors. So, it's what most high MMR killers are typically playing (and probably how they got to high MMR).

It seems to be a killer design problem more than an MMR problem.

  • @JawsIsTheNextKiller said:

I'm trying to figure our exactly WHY my matches were so much harder than non-MMR matches.

I played about 20 Demogorgon games and 20 Pyramid Head games. Neither of which I play particularly often. But nearly every game resulted in very difficult games against not even red rank survivors but all of which were way above my skill level. Almost all games resulted in zero or one kills.

I do have a huge amount of hours playing killer. Does anyone else think hours played heavily influences the matchmaking?

They did say that for Killers you rarely play or have never played, their MMR will not be starting at "zero," so to speak, but will start with an average of your overall Killer MMR. As you play them more, their individual MMR will then go up or down before it settles, based on your performance with them.

So, if you are very good at some Killers, their MMR will play a part in your beginning MMR for the never or rarely played killers in your roster, until those killers also settle into their own MMR.

The reason they're doing it like that is because if you have lot of Killer hours, and a decent MMR on some killers, then you aren't a "new" killer and won't be treated as such on your lesser played killers.

Is it possible to derank to below 16? I derank before I prestige a survivor character but 16 is as low as you can go. I constantly come up against killers who are pimped out Preshige level 3 with all rare add ons at level 18,19 and 20.

I can recognize good well trained players, and these guys make short work of all survivors.

Well, I've been as high as purple ranks. I have all my owned killers to Level 40 for unlocked teachables. And if I am playing my main guys of Doc or Myers (or my side guys of Leatherface or Freddy), I also have all the perks I want on them and the wanted loadouts. Plus a ton of add-ons waiting.

I am currently Rank 20 because I haven't played in many months. Rank reset will eventually reset you all the way back down to Rank 20.

@Rank_21 No, it doesn't. I was in greens when I quit. I am currently Rank 20. You can't depip below Rank 16 through playing, but can eventually rank reset all the way back to 20. Unless there was a recent patch note that changed that after I'd already reset to 20.

This I do agree with, but at the same time I don't think they want to do that. The grind is usually what keeps people playing games regardless. There are way more games that have grinds much much more heavier than dbd, and it's what keeps people busy usually. Outside of the grind you don't have a whole lot to actually work for on this game.

Not people like me. As a personal example, I've played Overwatch for five years (well, five year as of May in two months) and Paladins for almost as long. And neither game has a grind. I play them to get better at different heroes, create better tactics and strats, and pit myself against other players.

And I don't have to grind and grind and pray to RNGesus on top of it to do so.

Overwatch and Paladins have held me for years with no grind, whereas the grind in DbD does the opposite for me.

  • It could be various things.

It could be the bluestacks situation. It could also be that a lot of people moved on, as happens often in mobile games, and only the diehard fans/veterans are left as the majority. They also have a vs Bots mode there where you can just relax and chill, which people might also be playing.

I know when I play it (which is rare) I just use Michael Myers in vs Bots mode and chill and relax on the couch with the wife, with something on the TV in the background.

  • I haven't played the game in months, myself. And the only reason I would install it again would be for the occasional playing as Michael Myers. Other than that, the game is just too buggy for me to spend time on.

I did try the current PTB, though. Sadly, it didn't inspire me to reinstall the Live version.

Same here, but I'm 48 years old. I'm definitely not the target demographic for this Killer, and that's fine. None of his perks really wow'ed me either that I can't wait until any of them appear in the Shrine down the line, as well. So, it saved me both cash and shards on this one.

I used to have the pokemon "gotta catch 'em all" mentality with Killers, but broke that spiral when I didn't buy Blight or Twins.

Is MMR out already? Yesterday I was having a ton of great matches, where even if the killer got a 4k it felt like a good match. With the exception of two (face camping leatherface and a freddy) it was all a pretty fun night.

No. MandyTalk said last week or so in a thread reply that when it (eventually, one day) returns, there will be a huge announcement along with it.

  • As others have said, she has the highest skill ceiling in the game, and is not just a pick-up-and-play Killer. You have to dedicate a lot matches, a lot of time, and a lot of losses to getting even passable with her.

  • This isn't unique to Dead by Daylight. You see it all the time in the Overwatch community. It happened a couple years ago in Paladins when the Devs made an off-the-cuff joke that Fernando was gay and there was one hell of an uproar (he isn't, but whether that was because it really was a joke or they reversed course after the outcry is unknown).

And I'm positive there are other examples as well.

Dead by Daylight is neither special nor unique within gaming communities on this topic.

  • To be honest, I've had the game uninstalled for months. The closest I've come to reinstalling it was testing out the current PTB (which is why I'm at the forums right now), but even that didn't inspire me to reinstall the Live game.

I just got tired of playing a game where I feel like I'm fighting against the game, with its myriad bugs and issues, more than I'm fighting against the Survivors.

There are just too many things to do to entertain myself to bother dealing with BHVR nowadays. I have Overwatch with the Friends & Family group, I'm planning to try Home Sweet Home: Survival to see what that's about when it opens up soon. Interested in Evil Dead: The Game later this year. And other games if I'm so inclined.

Plus, I read a lot. Currently reading a horror-comedy urban fantasy-Slasher book called Psycho Killers in Love, and really enjoying it. Also downloading the Hack/Slash omnibus collections in digital form from my local library and reading through those.

Using "wallhacks" as Myers when I had Spies from the Shadows. Is it that hard to read the perks post match? I imagine that happens a lot when playing against babies - I myself used to think Mad Grit is was hacks due to how ridiculous it looks.

Oh hell, about a year ago I had survivors salty as all hell after a match and claimed they were reporting me for a "wallhack cheat" because I pretty much usually knew where they were at.

I was running a Scratched Mirror Myers build, along with BBQ and Nurse's Calling, just for laughs. Apparently, the Green Ranked survivors never heard of it.

What's even worse is that I got a 4k on them with that meme build. Yikes.

Also the reason why Freddy is getting nerfed, people always say "Nurse is the best killer". So why in the hell is Freddy getting nerfed, you know the developers don't think of nerfs, only survivors do.

Well, Nurse has been left to rot with how many attached bugs to her for how long now? 🤣

But hey . . . here's that new HUD for everyone!

Imagine the devs fixing the emblems but not the pips.

Well, it's BHVR, so fairly easy to imagine. 😂

  • If people DC early, I'll try to let the remaining players do gens and escape as long as they let me get some chase, hit, and hook scoring, too.

Granted, I don't force it though. If they'd just rather get hooked and leave the match for a (hopefully) real match instead, I'll end it and we can all move on.

But generally, I'll try to get them BP since they got screwed over by the early DC(s).
