  • @Chaotic_Riddle Seems like they're considering a Battle Pass concept. Which would be a nice feature for you main-game DbD players. I wouldn't buy it, but that's only because I'm already involved in Battle Passes for two other games: Paladins and Realm Royale.

But for the serious DbD playerbase, Battle Passes can be nice if done well. Or, they can be trash, as Respawn did with the Apex Legends Season 1 Pass.

  • @Vlieger But that is also a point. Removing Leave Match won't solve any part of the issue. If a player wants to leave for any reason, they can simply Task Manager end the game process (or whatever console people do), or unplug the internet for a few seconds.

It takes no time at all to relaunch the game.

People who want to quit a match will still very easily do so. I fail to see where removing Leave Match does anything.

@Bbbrian2013 So this weekend is when Killer queues become impossible like every other Bloodhunt event? Well, guess I'll have to play something else to get PvP matches, then.

  • @tt_ivi_99 Actually, the rank system doesn't even serve that purpose because of chronic deranking. Someone might be a legitimate Rank 10 in skill, but just as likely will face deranked "red rank" players with much greater skills because of the deranking problem.

The entire concept of "rank" in this game is broken beyond repair. The system needs to be scrapped and something different implemented. Maybe a hidden MMR system. There are too many factors in DbD that make it a poor choice for a competitive-ranked game. Just use hidden MMR and be done with it.

Scream barely registers as a horror movie. Whiney teens kill some people while talking about rules of a horror movie. I laughed more than anything else. Ghostface is low tier in the horror lineup. All I hear when I see him is the two main killers whining about who cut who too deep, and how one was upset because his mommy was gone.

Yeah, scary. Scream movies are another version of 90s teenage angst films.

@Warlock_2020 My brother and I used to call that era of films the yuppie horror films. Then we proceeded to pretend they didn't exist.

But I'm 46 and he's 39. We were both raised on the real slasher genre. 😋

  • Devs have already stated that camping is an allowed tactic.

  • Right now, Doctor and Myers. But that can always change as I eventually focus on and learn other Killers.

  • Honestly? Because right now I am a bit burned-out on Overwatch and Paladins, and shooters in general. When I'm not, DbD is very much just an occasional side game.

Wait until Chapter 12 releases and the 3rd anniversary. We know Behvaiour managed to get the rights for Ash vs. Evil Dead while talking with Lionsgate about another matter. Lionsgate owns the rights to the Saw and Halloween franchisees. What else could they have been talking about then cosmetics?

@Okapi It also comes down to whether or not Lionsgate holds the licensing rights for that actresses' likeness. That isn't always the case, and when it is, is often times also a limited term agreement between the actor and the studio.

It might very well be they would also have to establish an agreement with the actress, herself.

  • @not_Queen That explains why I got notice that my Michael pic was changed to . . . Michael.

I just shook my head and wrote @Peanits off as bored or drunk or both. 😋

i'm an 80'ies boy and i think this "ghostface" is lame.

I did enjoy the parody movie based on scream titled "scary movie" from 2000. That ######### was funny

@Jimsalabim Born in 1972, raised primarily in the 80s when the slasher genre really found its feet. I never cared much for Scream at all. I have to admit, if there is a Scream DLC, it will be the first DLC from Behavior I would definitely not purchase. I don't care what Perks it has.

There are so many better licensed killer choices still out there.

  • @twistedmonkey If they handle it like some other games, Overwatch for example, then lobby dodging shouldn't be an issue with dedicated servers.

For example, in Overwatch (except for Competitive Mode, which works its own way), there is the 30-second character select countdown. If I see a team-comp for a given map that I know from experience is likely doomed to fail, I bail from the match during that countdown since there is no penalty for doing so.

    I.e. I lobby dodge.

Overwatch will simply put someone else in my place.

With dedicated servers, if they set it up to also refill a dodged slot, then it isn't the issue it is today. It will simply dump in a new Killer, since the Killer is no longer the host and ending the lobby by leaving.

  • Current ratio of 3-man and 4-man SWFs. I know we had that ratio stated quite a bit of time ago, but I'd personally like to know how it stands today.

  • @Peanits Sure there is. There's a huge Update feature to share, considering the reveal of the Freddy rework was stated to be in May.

  • @Peanits I would love to hear how Behavior intends to differentiate between a legitimate internet issue, and someone bypassing the 'Leave Match" option via a task manager closing of the game or simply disconnecting their internet manually.

Because not even much larger studios can make that determination, as they've discussed publicly, which is why their ban system hits players even for legitimate internet issues. And also because a manual disconnect looks the same as a legitimate issue.

Yes, one can differentiate when only considering the "Leave Match" option, but that is so easily worked around that it's not even a problem to do so.

  • I only play this game chill. I don't care about pips or rank. I know it's the only mode they decided to have in the game, but I walked away from playing competitively for rank in video games back in 2018. I don't plan to ever play that way again. At 46 years old, I'm just too old to stress myself out over a video game. It makes no sense to me.

Typically as a killer, I just want my three or four stacks of BBQ for the bloodpoint bonus. After those first hooks, I don't really care anymore. I just try to chase, hit, and maybe hook so the survivors can get some emblem points and BP as well.

  • @George_Soros That isn't true for everyone, though. I have a stressful career as a full-time author. I retired in 2018 from another stressful career in the game industry. I play video games for fun and to relax.

I have a lot of fun just playing offline mode against Bots in Friday The 13th, even on high difficulty. No stress. I have fun just running LFR raids in WoW. No stress.

I stopped playing Competitive Mode in Overwatch because of the stress. It wasn't fun. Ditto for ranked in Heroes of the Storm.

Not everyone wants to be stressed playing a video game. Some of us just play to relax and unwind. And even in a PvP game when there is a casual mode such as a Quick Play mode, that can still be achieved.

  • @pemberley said:

It honestly baffles how low key and easy going survivor is. Survivors should be terrified and they should be grateful they made it to the exit gate, not taking a stroll through the park all the time.

Every killer should inspire the same fear and dread as hearing Michael tier up.

@pemberley You are correct, it should. Unfortunately, I've seen this same issue not only in Dead by Daylight, but also in Friday the 13th and Last Year: The Nightmare. Playing the Killer isn't the power role it's supposed to be, and it's more just an inconvenience for the survivors (insert whatever name those games used for the role, as well). In all three games, the Killers are just bullied around far too easily.

I can't speak for other asymmetrical games, such as when Evolve was still a thing, because I didn't play the genre before DbD. But it definitely seems to be an issue, at least in the horror sub-genre.

The Killer or monster should be the power role. In a 1v1 or 1v2 situation, they should hold the cards. It should require teamwork on the part of the numbers-role to handle the power role. Unfortunately, that then makes the game heavily reliant on coordinated teamwork. And as I've spoken about elsewhere, that design rarely works with the general gaming public. It only truly works in a controlled environment of playing with a consistent team of friends, or on an eSports team.

Which is why I don't feel the asymmetrical genre will ever work as people expect, and it should never be set-up as a competitive game where certain balance considerations are expected. It should just be a casual game that delivers an experience, and nothing more. Dead by Daylight, using a ranking system as the only mode of play the way it does, made a serious mistake from moment one in my opinion.

  • @Drazen said:

@BACKSTABBER or maybe play survivor for a little bit xdd

@Drazen Well, if nothing else, playing survivor definitely cures any case of insomnia that I might suffer on occasion.

  • @PiiFree said:

Another Killer that makes me go absolutely crazy as Survivor - not because of the Plague or her abilities but because of the way she showcases all the braindead players, just like the Legion does.

Constantly being reminded of the incompetence of your teammates has got to be one of the most frustrating things in this game.

@PiiFree Being reminded of the incompetence of your teammates is unfortunately true of every game that requires heavy teamwork. It's why they've all fallen apart once they hit the general public of the average gamer. They really only work as intended in a controlled environment, such as playing with a consistent team of friends, or in an eSports team.

Typically, you would balance around the higher end of the skill-rank spectrum. Except here you can't even do that, since their ranking system looks like something that a first-year design student would have put together.

  • @NuclearBurrito Just listen to this while playing Killer. It's what I do nowadays. It sets the mood perfectly.

I'd just punish players which dc with an 1 hour ingame ban so you can't play for the next hour.

People who dc because they have guests or something won't suffer from that since they won't be there for an hour anyway so that'd be a solution for the "Leave match" option. Idk what to do about the internet plug dc or if the devs can tell if someone plugged their internet.

@MrDardon No developer can tell if someone unplugged their internet, or even killed the game through task manager (for PC), which is why every other game with a ranked system, including the big boys like LoL and Overwatch, ban on a DC regardless of the claimed reason. Internet legitimately went out? That's the risk you take playing ranked.

Now, their Quick Play modes have much, much softer punishments because they are casual modes.

The issue DbD has is that some genius at Behavior, and I use that term loosely, decided that ranked mode would be the only mode. So, the only punishment option you have now to save any sort of ranked mode integrity is a harsh punishment system.

But as far as telling a legitimate internet issue from a manual disconnect, I already had this discussion with Peanits when he stated that with dedicated servers they hope to be able to tell the difference. That shows their inexperience, right there, and destroyed all remaining confidence I had in Behavior. You can't. The much larger studios have already discussed that publicly. So you invoke the ban system regardless of reason. Don't want to risk a ban due to internet issues? Then play the casual mode.

Except in DbD. Because you can't. There isn't one.

If this is really true, thoses are some cool sounds ngl.

From what i know from Hellraiser tho, they have their own pocket dimension of some sort so i'm guessing it's going some kind of Freddy clone?

Also i hope they make it like the Legion and that we can switch between all the members.

@Plu Not only that, but if you read the original novella from Clive Barker, and then the novel he released that officially closed off Hellraiser, Pinhead is a high-priest in Hell. I just can't see him being trapped by the Entity.

  • @Judith Yeah, but I wouldn't be playing F13 nightly anyway. Hell, I don't play Dead by Daylight nightly. They're both side games.

@MystiKasT Entertainment? Sometimes, I feel like this playing Killer. Maybe they should license the song and dance emote, and we can just provide a floor show while we're gen-rushed.

    https://youtu.be/umj0gu5nEGs

  • @MystiKasT When you play DbD as Killer to the proper music, it all becomes clear . . . .

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Va7NNzes-DA

  • @ReikoMori What you say isn't wrong. I bought F13 on the cheap tonight just for the offline mode. I figured: What the heck? I can relax and just kill A.I. counselors as Jason when I don't feel like real PvP.

And sadly, playing that little offline mode was more fun than playing killer here has been lately.

(Note: I have no real interest in F13 PvP, I just wanted the offline mode.)

  • My rule is simple: I play Dead by Daylight because it's a PvP Game. That means my goal is to kill the opponent. That is my only goal. Now, whether or not my method of achieving said goal (which will vary from killer to killer) is fun for my opponent is the least of my concerns. I'm here to kill survivors.

And yes, I expect the same from my enemy. They're here to complete generators and get out the gates. Use whatever means necessary.

    I surely will.

And no, I don't expect to win them all. Hell, some nights I don't win any. Nature of the beast. If I want to win them all, I'll go play WoW on that night and run PvE instances against scripted A.I. Or go play Jason in F13 offline mode.

  • Welcome to the internet. Here's a life tip: If you want to avoid some idiot doing spoilers, stay off the sections of the internet that have any type of social media, including game chat, until you see said movie or final episode of a television season.

    Otherwise, you take your risks.

  • Pip? Why the heck would I care about a Pip or a rank? I don't. Not one bit. I Mori because I want to. End of story.

If I was inclined to begin caring about Rank again (which, I am not) there are far better games out there to play Competitively.

  • The problem is that they want Rank to be the only mode, and want people to care about rank and therefore climb the ladder, thereby making DbD a competitive game. But at the same time, there isn't even an external site that collects any data. Hell, even a small game like Paladins has that.

I have to agree. If Behavior wants Rank to be the primary and only mode, and expects people to care about the ladder, stats need to be made known.

They make the game only with a Ranked mode, then turn around and try to treat it like a casual Quick Play mode. It doesn't work.

  • @MystiKasT Let's be realistic for a moment. SWFs are not new to DbD. Behavior has been aware of all the complaints for a long time now. They haven't done anything about it outside of minor things like all survivors seeing who the Obsession is, and small things like that.

It's unlikely they will do anything to better balance against SWFs. Hell, they encourage 4-man SWFs right on their Official Dead by Daylight Discord server, where they have voice-comm rooms set-up for people to 4-man SWF through.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. But Behavior has pretty much dug their heels in with SWF to the point of making it easy to do through their own Discord server.

It's actually the primary reason that I just can't play this game as a "main game." It's just more frustrating than fun as a Killer.

  • @MystiKasT Peanits has posted that the current test is a very early stage of the Dedicated Servers. Right now, they are just testing basic infrastructure and server loads. The servers are also currently not region locked. So, if your closest server is full, you will be sent to another server. Sometimes much further away.

So, yeah, right now the servers will have a ton of issues from ping, lag, abilities not working properly if at all, and so forth.

  • @gantes There is no external site that tracks the kind of stats you're asking for. The only people that have them is Behavior, and they don't release that type of data.

Have you played any kind of competitive game before? I'm assuming not - otherwise you'd be used to things being nerfed accordingly. Btw, Steam has a policy against review bombing now. So that's irrelevant.

It's common for games to balance out things according to their playerbase feedback, and if literally an entire group/portion of the community is speaking out about the inbalance, of course it's going to be acted upon. Look at games like Smite and Overwatch, that are practically adjusted in balance changes every 2-4 weeks.

@Brady Overwatch is a bad example. I've been an Overwatch player since Beta. Blizzard doesn't not balance or change anything every 2-4 weeks, not even close. Their absolute snail's pace of doing anything is a major reason that game has declined enough to stop growing, and has remained flat per the last two financial reports.

Plus, like with Behavior, when Blizzard finally makes any change in Overwatch, it's typically done with a sledgehammer.

The only difference between how Blizzard handles Overwatch and how Behavior handles DbD is that Blizzard could lose more players for Overwatch than DbD has in its entirety, and still turn a profit for Activision-Blizzard.

  • @Orion Thank you. As always, you've been a huge help.

  • @Orion Oh, ok. And that removes all the PTB files?

  • @Detective_Jonathan Oh please. Saying "no disrespect" and then creating a thread that is obviously going to start an argument between two sides regarding Legion doesn't absolve you from an obvious attempt at toxicity.

And yes, toxicity has always existed. But when you are blatantly starting it, because you knew exactly what the potential result could be with such a thread, you aren't unintelligent, then don't start playing the victim card on: I wasn't being toxic, you were.

It definitely calls into question the other such cards you've played.

I'm done here. Have a good day.

  • @HavelmomDaS1 Yeah, it was a known issue with EAC regarding ReShade. Other games that I play that use EAC had some players suffering the same thing for a while.

  • Well, this thread was useful. Nothing like just adding to the toxicity that already exists in this community.

No wonder the game can barely grow even with having had a free weekend and a 50% off sale.

  • The purpose of this end game change is to stop the asinine practice of holding a game hostage. A three minute timer that already slows down when a survivor is in the dying state or hooked is already plenty.

Can't get to them in time for some reason? Well, that's the nature of the PvP beast: you won't get everything you want nor win them all. Move on to the next match.

  • @Adonisadon234

As @Sairek said, it's bannable. If you have the video proof, report them. The less of them in the game, the better.

Aha ok sorry my bad so in basic we fkt? We got one step in right direction mayby 2 (ds) and what next 3 steps back? I see this too many times in dbd.

@Larcz Yeah . . . that's pretty much been my take on it.

  • @Poweas That was a give-away on its own. Not_Queen already stated yesterday that NOED is not getting changed.

  • @BBQnDemogorgon said:

I probably wouldn't care about ever losing if the survivors didn't ######### on me in dms like this when they win.

I don't think i've ever personally sent a rage message to someone who beat me. Even if they face camped/tunnel.

Its pretty crazy how personal people get over DbD.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/151/KMECS7SPOFZH.png

    @Bbbrian2013

Yep. I'm on PC and already have post match chat permanently close. This game is also the sole reason why my Steam profile is entirely private, so they can't even contact me through there, which I only set that way when DbD is in my play rotation.

  • @Larcz While DbD might be their first game of this type and size, Behavior interactive is not a new company nor new to the game industry. They've been around since the early 1990s, and have worked with major companies on game related projects. As they say themselves, they've developed over 250 titles and sold over 60 million copies across all platforms.

    https://www.bhvr.com/about-bhvr/

  • Given the amount of wording errors in that document, I'm calling fake. Even an internal design document would not be written so poorly.

  • @Detective_Jonathan To be honest for why I still play, I play DbD just to run around as Myers or Freddy or Leatherface or Amanda Young. The only original killer I still play is Doc, and that's only because at Ranks 15 or so, he's easy as hell to hunt and kill with. I pull him out when I want a few extra BP for minimal effort thanks to him having BBQ at tier-3 unlocked.

But I'm lucky if I play 6 to 10 matches a week right now. I gave up on the asinine BP + RNG grind, and have zero care about rank. I actually started spending more time in Overwatch again, especially since the new Archives event just started.

If it wasn't for the licensed killers, DbD wouldn't even be reinstalled on my PC. DbB is not a game that appeals to me in a game design sense on too many levels. They focus on a build and loadout system, but require an intense grind coupled with RNG to do it. Before you can truly experiment with the game, you have to invest upward of 1k hours or more, unless you are extremely lucky.

I don't like that design. I find it boring as all hell. I much prefer the way games like Paladins handle it. I can experiment from the starting gate and really explore different builds. That keeps me invested.

  • @BACKSTABBER Quick summary, just so some of my experience is understood in the context of some of my posts (i.e., not a flex).

I've been an author for 25 years. That's what I am at my core, and where I finally returned to as of 2019.

Along the road of my career, though, I've worked in the table-top RPG, collectible card game, comic book, and video game industries. Sometimes on licensed products, and sometimes where I helped negotiate the licenses. I owned my own publishing company until I let it go in 2018 so I could return to my full-time fiction career. Technically, it's still there. I just ceased publishing in the game industry.

I also worked in television in the 1990s (Highlander: The Series), and have worked as a Script Doctor for various screenplays for studios. In the early 2000s, I had two screenplays optioned by Sony via my agent at the time, though they ultimately never went into production. One of them, I was told at the time, even had Sam Raimi interested (this was when he was attached to Sony for the Spider-Man films).

  • I have to be honest here: If this game was in a beta state, then I might agree with you. Unfortunately, the game has been Live for three years now, and I have beta tested some games that are more stable and in better states.

So, I will have to respectfully disagree at this point in time.

  • @Delfador My experience with working in Star Wars licenses is from when Lucas still owned it all, pre-Disney purchase.

At that time, the licensing fee was a minimum of $1 million, and could easily be more depending on your industry and what products you were licensing for.

From there, the royalty percentage was a non-negotiable 50% of gross sales.

Now, of course, if you did license Star Wars, you were basically getting into a license that printed its own money, but you had better have had the entrance fee money to start with and be able to absorb that and production, manufacturing, and distribution costs to start.

I don't know what Disney is asking for in regards to Star Wars, but I can tell you from other experience that any Disney owned property is very expensive to license. They are typically on par with where Lucas used to be as far as costs and royalties. Disney is also extremely selective in who licenses their I.P., regardless of the I.P.

As far as Alien and Predator, we would have to wait and see what the post-buyout structure looks like. If Fox is kept as a separate company under the Disney umbrella like Marvel is, then the Fox division will handle licensing for something like Alien and Predator. If it's folded into Disney itself like the Lucas companies were, then it's straight Disney for licensing and that's a tough ballgame.

As far as Child's Play, that's Universal, which is owned by Comcast. I don't have any experience dealing with them for licenses.
