  • @RIP_Legion Peanits said they're aware of it, and don't know yet what went wrong with matchmaking. The team is looking hard into it, but don't have anything to report to us, yet.

It wasn't something they tweaked or did on their end, so how and why the issue has popped up is what they're searching for.

Well, I hope they find and fix it before the DLC drops, or delay the DLC if not. Because with MM like this, I seriously doubt they will retain any new DbD players. Even I am not touching this game or the DLC until it is fixed, and fixed right.

  • I don't think there should be a voting system. I think that in the lobby where everyone readies-up, it should show which map everyone is about to enter. Much like other games like Paladins and Overwatch do. That way, survivors can adjust loadouts as needed, and the Killer player can pick a decent killer for the map as needed.

And then just get rid of map offerings since they would be useless at that point.

  • @CoffengMin Same here. I played F13 (and still do whenever I can get a lobby on PC) until the Steam 2018 Summer Sale. My 9-year-old is a huge horror fan and I let him get the game and DLCs like 8 months before that. Well, we all are horror fans here, actually. I write in the genre as part of my living, my father did Hollywood SFX for years, and my (now) 19-year-old daughter is learning SFX. And I mean the "Faceoff" contest show variety, not CGI.

Yeah, I let him play DbD that young. But he learned that it's all fake at a very early age when he saw his much older sister doing the make-up, sculpting, and masks. Then we showed him the videos of Robert Englund getting into the make-up for Freddy, and even took him to a convention here in Baltimore where he met and talked to both Englund and Kane Hodder (aka Jason). Then got to see Kane in full Jason make-up the next day and got his picture taken with him.

Horror has never scared him. Not in the slightest.

So, yeah, he was huge into playing DbD and either being some of his favorite horror slashers, or running from them. Begged me to get it to play survivor with him. I did. Two months later, he finally stopped playing and here I was with my own copy of the damned game and all the DLCs.

So, I still play it, but it's always been a side thing for me. I doubt I'll clock 1k hours in it, and will definitely never hit Red Ranks. I just play it when I want that slasher horror gaming on a night, and don't feel like doing bots in F13, since I can never find a late-night lobby over there.

  • @Supernaut I don't even have three. I just want Phantasm, too. That franchise holds a special place in my heart from back when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s, and it being a huge thing with me and my (late) father. Just let me play the Tall Man or Reggie Bannister!

@PhantomMask20763 Well, I think we have a better chance of aliens actually visiting Earth than a Friday the 13th chapter. This war between Miller and Cunningham is going to go on until one of them goes bankrupt fighting it.

But I do wish a Development Studio that would care about their game like Behavior does DbD would come along and make a new asymmetrical game in the vein of the F13 game. I loved so many of the core aspects of that game, and much more than DbD's design. Even Counselor felt more fun and engaging than Survivor ever has over here. Damned shame that game had to be Gun Media and Illfonic.

  • @Fab I only play DbD occasionally so am still low ranked, but as I try to learn Killers, I specifically do not use add-ons or Perks like Ruin. I just run their base kit and some other Perks. The reason being is pretty much what you stated: I viewed them as training wheels of sorts, and I want to learn the Killer without them before I start using anything like that.

But I'm also a little nuts, so there's that.

  • @Kikki I can't comment on how to carry unskilled teammates because I only play DbD occasionally, myself. But to be realistic, most video game players play very casually and are not going to watch guides and videos and study a video game. They login, play, logout.

Most also don't read the forums, either.

Just my own anecdotal experience along those lines. Close to 12 of us played Overwatch together for its first two years. No one except me ever visited the forums or watched a single video on it. Ditto for the group back in the WoW days.

They just logged in, played, and had fun or didn't. Many developers have commented over the years that that's most gamers. Which is why it boggles my mind that, since developers know that, tutorials in most games are such absolute garbage.

  • @Peanits Well, then that's a problem. Because deja vu indicates a glitch in the Matrix and Agents are soon to be inbound . . . .

  • @Peanits Yep. Going to the PTB is like going to Vegas. :)

  • Yeah, this crap is just unplayable for me as Killer. I tried three matches last night, and it was all the same. At least three of the Survivors were way above my Rank. Well, technically two matches, because I finally said "to hell with it" and DC'ed from the third match and closed the game. And I never DC.

I'm not even looking at buying the DLC until they announce that the matchmaker is fixed. Until then, I guess it's back to Overwatch to mess around with the 2-2-2 RoleQ that just got added into QP, and messing around in F13.

This has already been going on for two weeks, and Peanits said they're aware but have no progress to report, yet. Guess I'll check back in October or so.

Unless they get this fixed before the DLC drops, good luck keeping any new players.

  • @Doc_W__HOLLIDAY Thanks. One of my fans tagged me in it over at Facebook. I just had to share. :)

  • @KillermainBTWm8 Sadly, it's precisely why I don't have a lot of high hopes for the netcode for their dedicated servers. Now don't get me wrong, I would absolutely love for them to prove me wrong on that perspective, but if there was a betting pool, I wouldn't put money down at this juncture on that happening.

  • @Weck Predator would depend on the licensing terms Illfonic and Sony have for the character for the upcoming PS4-only Predator asymmetrical game. That character might not be available to a competing game in the same (i.e. asymmetrical) video game genre.

I also wonder, if the game does well enough, if they might have an Alien DLC planned for it, since Alien vs Predator has been a thing since the original Dark Horse comics in the 1990s, even before the films. Which might also make Alien unavailable, too.

  • @UlvenDagoth Yep. Now like I said, I like Dead by Daylight. It's just that I liked a lot of aspects of Friday the 13th a lot more and found them more fun and engaging. I would love a new asymmetrical horror game in that vein, even if it just had all original killers to it.

I'd had hopes for Last Year: The Nightmare. Well, those hopes were dashed in the beta, and that game is even more dead than F13, now. And rightly so.

Give me a game like F13 by a development studio that cares about it like Behavior does DbD, and I might not be playing DbD all that much.

  • @UlvenDagoth Well, the developers, Illfonic, weren't really following through on things to begin with. Then the Friday the 13th franchise lawsuit between Victor Miller (the writer for the original film) and Sean Cunningham (who controls the franchise) hit the courts. And it's been ongoing since. That thing is a bit complicated to explain quickly, so you'll have to Google it.

As a result, Illfonic and other Friday the 13th licensees were given notice to cease creating new licensing material. So, Illfonic had to stop making new content for the game. And the possibility of any new movies is a fantasy due to the lawsuit, as well.

Even if the lawsuit suddenly ended tomorrow, they already stated there will never be new content for the game, now. They've since moved on and are now doing the new Predator asymmetrical game for the PS4 exclusively. They just keep the F13 servers up and do bug fixes once in a blue moon. They also just released it for the Switch, but that's an obvious cash grab, considering everything else.

The game still gets around 700 players a day according to Steam Charts, and lobbies can be found during the day and early evenings. But I mostly game from around 10pm until midnight, east coast time. And during that window, lobbies are hard to find. So, if I want an asymmetrical horror game, it's DbD for that time of night.

That, or I just mess around as Jason in the offline bots mode. Which is what I've been doing for the Slasher fix until Behavior finally fixes the matchmaker in DbD.

  • @UlvenDagoth I'm going to be honest here: while I like DbD, it has never given me that sense of being scared during a match. I don't know if it's the limited sized maps, which strike me as more of a battle arena format than anything else, or what? But pound for pound, I get a lot more of that horror movie feeling, and even jump scares and such at times, playing a counselor in Friday the 13th. Even to this day.

It's just a damned shame that game went the way it did, because I even found that game more engaging as a counselor than I do here as a survivor.

Right now I play DbD because it's really the only game in town with a decent player base for that slasher-horror gaming when the mood strikes me. I do wish that another game similar to Friday the 13's core aspects would come along. Sadly, Last Year: The Nightmare was not it.

  • @immortalls96 You apparently need to learn the difference between someone acting like they know you, and someone commenting on the content and context of your posted responses.

But it's not my job to educate you. Nor worth my time.

  • @immortalls96 Twice now you seemed offended, but in reality use spaces between sentences and make separate paragraphs. Some of us have bad enough eyes as it is, and your feedback on PTB was unreadable to me.

I couldn't separate lines between what you were saying until @SpaceCoconut fixed it and added proper spacing and paragraphs.

Acting offended doesn't work out well when you have no problem giving some of us migraines because you can't be bothered using the space bar and enter key.

  • @Peanits Fair enough. I'll admit I screwed up on this one. I've seen a lot of threads but wasn't seeing the red Dev or Community Manager appearing with it in the listing. Obviously, somehow, I was very much missing the threads you all did reply to.

    Apologies.

  • deleted. I'll admit when I am wrong.

    I was wrong.

  • Never mind. Already replied to in other threads. Ignore me.

  • @NMCKE I agree. My comment was purely about how this one has been, thus far, handled.

  • @NMCKE Especially because they show one thing on a DevStream, and then a week or two later put it onto PTB and make the original advertisement look like: Nah, we were just kidding.

  • @Hoodedfengm1n I think Behavior adopted the Blizzard formula: We nerf fun!

  • Well, I'm almost 47, so school is a long ways in the rearview mirror. That said, my youngest is 9 years old and started 4th grade today. He was excited. We met the teacher and saw who was in his class last week. Teacher is nice and one he knows already, and all of the problematic kids from his class last year are not in his class this year, but several of his friends are.

My other three kids are ages 19-26.

  • @Karltastisk Welcome to PvP games, where far too many players refuse to adapt and then whine and complain about things. It's here in DbD, in Overwatch, in Paladins, in Apex, in . . . you get the idea.

Plus, though unrelated to your post, also don't forget axiom #2: It's never that player, it's always their potato teammates that are holding them back. They'd be top rank or a pro-player if not for their blasted teammates. ๐Ÿ˜‚

  • @KillermainBTWm8 No worries. I'm almost 47 years old. Before Overwatch launched in May 2016, I didn't play PvP games at all. Most I did was PvP as a side thing in MMOs, which was my main gaming genre from 1999-2016. So, I never dealt with the t-bagging and other crap prevalent in shooters and PvP games.

I don't t-bag, but getting t-bagged doesn't bother me. I will tunnel and facecamp a t-bagging survivor, though. Not because I'm tilted or offended, but just because I know that in a majority of instances, that's the effect they're going for. So, I figure if they want to play like immature children, I'll punish them like a child and remove them from the match. Depending on how early in the match it is, they might even get very little BP and a depip as an added bonus. ๐Ÿ˜

  • @KillermainBTWm8 While I don't believe in being toxic in chat in a video game, t-bag away. If that offends them, perhaps they shouldn't be playing an online PvP game. That crap has been around forever and isn't going anywhere. I also don't care about the personal feelings of random and faceless internet people, either, to that type of degee.

  • @Acromio and @NuclearBurrito I have to agree with Nuclear on this one. Just like in DbD, there are posts at their forums, the steam forums, and reddit crying that Scavenger is OP, and then the posts claiming that Hunter is OP.

At this point, I'm not seeing clear evidence of either side being OP (except the new Hunter right now), not even when I check out game play via Streams. It's still the same issue of player skill level. Also keep in mind that the matchmaking in Deathgarden is even more broad that DbD is currently suffering, so you are getting players of varied skill levels in the same match. But I've messed around in battle royales like Apex and Realm Royale, so I'm already used to that stuff.

I haven't purchased the game yet, only because I'm still debating whether or not (1) I need yet another asymmetrical game when I already play DbD and F13, and (2) whether or not I want to go into another shooter-esque game when I already burned out on shooters after years of Overwatch, and also playing Paladins, Apex, and Realm Royale on the side.

  • Hell, I still enjoy that game, warts and all.

  • @NuclearBurrito Correct me if I'm wrong, but the scavs all have their own Perks and those perks are for that character only? If so, that's already a selling point. One of the things I hate about survivor in DBD is the teachable perks and the fact that survivors just become skins after a while.

That was one thing I liked about Friday the 13th. At least each counselor had their own stats, and therefore their own strengths and weaknesses. The way survivors ended up here in DBD just made me not want to play them.

  • @NuclearBurrito I tried it during the free weekend back when it first launched again. What was that? June or July or something? Anyway, back then I liked Poacher. Soldier 76 was one of my DPS mains in Overwatch, and his gun felt very similar, so a lot of my muscle memory translated over. And tracking the scavengers with him wasn't too different from tracking a Genji with 76.

And yeah, I heard about the new Hunter. Definitely sounds like it needs some incoming nerfs.

My biggest concern based on the Steam Charts was the queue times. But it sounds like they're okay, so nothing to lose on the $6, I suppose.

  • @csandman1977 My issue with dumping BP into Hag for the Hex perks is the totem cleansing. Then again, being an occasional player, I never exceed Rank 12 before a reset, and often times I barely pip out of Rank 15. For example, I haven't played in a few months and am currently rank reset and sitting at Rank 19. I likely won't make it past 15 before the next reset in less than two weeks. I just don't play that often.

So, given my general rank, do the Totems even get cleansed early in a match very often?

  • @HeyItsNick123andnea Oh really? I hadn't looked at the Stranger Things reveals yet since I'm not a fan of the show. Sounds like Distressing would go well with that set-up, too.

@Weck Hmmm. So Ruin at my potato ranks would be good? Sounds like it makes it even easier to get those four BBQ stacks since those survivors spend too much time searching for the Totem because they can't power through the skill checks. That sound about right?

  • @KillermainBTWm8 Doc was my primary, followed by Myers.

@TheRoyalOwl Myers, huh? I was never sure about his Perks, but that'll work since he's my second favorite right behind Doc, and I have him in the 20s already. I also don't have an issue with tunneling. It's not something I go out of my way to do, but if a perk or perk build calls for it, I'll tunnel.

@Boss I'll have to grind out some shards and wait for the Shrine. I'm usually gray to beginning green ranks as I don't play steadily (and get bounced around by rank resets), so didn't really want to dump the BP into Hag since I really don't need Ruin at those ranks. And that one is her Level 40 perk.

  • @MimiDallas Precisely and exactly.

Hell, I played Overwatch from beta until a few months ago. Simply got bored with the game. You reach a point where it's just the same thing over and over again, and I just don't find that enjoyable.

That was the same issue I had with MMOs. I played MMOs from 1999-2016. They were my primary video gaming. It got to the point that once you saw several of them, you saw them all. And there are only so many times you can run dungeons, even new expansion dungeons, that recycle the same boss mechanics over and over. You learn them, you get good at your classes and against them, and it gets boring.

DbD is just a side thing for me. But even in my limited play time, DbD game play quickly got repetitive. Pound for pound, I enjoyed the game play of Friday the 13th much more, but we all know what happened to that game. Which is a damned shame.

Not saying I don't like DbD. Only saying that for me, it got repetitive fast, and therefore will probably always just be a side game that I play when I feel like running around as some of my favorite 80s horror icons.

  • @MimiDallas I've been away for a few months and was going to come back, but then noticed all the matchmaking posts the past two weeks or so. I was hoping it might have been a console issue, but if you guys are PC as well, then I'll just keep waiting it out.

    Sigh.

  • @noneofyourbusiness Then it would be a fantasy and not even close to reality, and doesn't have an influence on how Behavior designs their game.

  • @MimiDallas and @HatCreature Just curious, what platform are you guys on?

  • @Maelstrom10 I have the same feeling as you. I think any challenges will be part of the free pass. I honestly can't see them shooting themselves in the foot on the Rifts.

  • Here's my list on who I find fun to play as:

    my-image.png

  • @rayoxium and @NoShinyPony So, it seems around Rank 10. I haven't played in months, so no longer have the shards for a Shrine purchase, but have enough BP sitting where I could unlock the Hag's perks. But, since I've yet to ever exceed Rank 12 as killer before I need a break again and play other games (and then multiple resets hit where, like now, I'm back at Rank 19), it's looking like worrying about Hag's perks might not be a concern right now.

I also don't chase pips and ranks to begin with, but just play for the Slasher killer aspect and for BP.

Already have LF and Doc unlocked. Who should I dump the sitting BP into next?

  • @Maelstrom10 As far as challenges and the Rift battlepass thing, the challenges need not be a paid-for feature. Paladins, for example, does the free vs paid battlepass for rewards like cosmetics and whatnot, but the challenges are available whether you paid for the pass or not.

Just depends on how greedy Behavior is with the system.

  • Thanks for the answer. Much appreciated.

  • @prayer_survivor I agree with you. Let me say that upfront. But I don't see Behavior caring about camping enough to do anything about outside of the emblem change for it that they did previously. Peanits commented to me in a post a month or so ago that they see growth happening on consoles, and expect the game to further grow when the Switch edition is released.

As far as PC. their average player count is above 19k. Their highest average player count since launch was just over 22k. So, they're still sitting in the high range of players since launch. Add to it that they have absolutely zero competition in the asymmetrical horror game genre, and Behavior isn't worried enough to do much.

Until, or unless, it starts hitting their bottom dollar through enough players leaving and numbers dropping, what incentive do they have?

And not just camping. Their matchmaker has been completely screwed for around two weeks now. Name me one other game out there with a ranking system that would allow their matchmaker to remain this screwed for weeks, with very little communication on it.

But hey, I'm sure they'll get new players buying the base game and the Stranger Things DLC in a couple of weeks. Then they can talk growth again, even if the new players don't stick around.

Just keep pumping out those DLCs!

  • @dist0rt Same. I've been away for several months, and I was about to come back. Checked the forums over the past week or two, saw post after post about the matchmaking, said "to hell with that," and am waiting for Behavior to do something about it.

At this rate, I'm wondering if my return won't be until 2020. I'd say they move at a snail's pace, but that would be an insult to snails.

  • @FiftyCalReaper Fair enough. I understand that some people don't want it changed. But under the same token, when it comes time to spam a button for the struggle, I'll freely say "to hell with it" and just suicide on the occasions I don't feel like dealing with it.

But there are still other survivors left in the match afterward? Oh well.

  • @TheGorgon said:

    Not really but,

Some killers do in fact have better powers than others, but what is at steak, ie; The perks have much more value. The real only killer that can do amazing vs. a 4 man is either a Billy or mostly a Nurse. Shrine of Secrets is what doesn't make it really a P2W

@HeyItsNick123andnea But that isn't any different from a MOBA, where you have to pay for new characters. So, let me ask this: would you guys then consider a MOBA P2W? Or a team shooter like Paladins?

Now, granted, you can also almost always also buy them with in-game currency. Which can also be done here, except in the cases of the licensed killers. But so far, originals outnumber the licensed.

  • How is the DBD community?

Man, would have saved me some money.

  • @ad19970 The issue is, I don't think that Behavior feels there is a need to deal with it. While PC side doesn't seem to retain any growth and ends up going back to its normal numbers a few weeks after a sale or right after a free weekend, Peanits commented to me in a thread a month or two ago that DbD has seen decent growth on console, and they expect additional growth with the Switch release in late September.

So, with them seeing growth on console and foreseeing growth via Switch, and with there being absolutely no competing asymmetrical horror game on the market, I feel like Behavior has become way too complacent.
