As much as I am a severe critic of P2W schemes, and as much as I will criticize aspects of DbD, I simply do not see a P2W format going on here. And especially not as long as DLC Perks, including licensed DLC Perks, appear in the Shrine of Secrets for shards.
-
@PatchNoir Well, if the Streamer got their free copy from Behavior, then it was likely a "review copy." Companies often times do that in exchange for a review if the reviewer has enough traffic.
Other than that, the only real way to get it free is like I happened to do via winning a giveaway. But keep in mind, that's a base game giveaway. If you're lucky, a giveaway might include one or two DLCs.
But either way, you're grinding all the Perks and everything else all over again, as well as buying any cosmetics all over again. There's simply no way around that.
-
@lynelmane Yeah, I thought about coming back to DbD after months away. Learned that Behavior screwed the pooch on matchmaking (yet again) and decided: Yeah, I'm gonna wait.

As if they don't already riot about every killer buff or survivor nerf?
@Kerbert Very true. I keep trying to figure out which forum is more whiny, here or the Overwatch forums. So far, it's neck-and-neck.
-
@Kerbert Like in Friday the 13th? The players here would riot, LOL.
-
Well, Stranger Things has deals going with several games. So it seems like Netflix really wanted some licensing to happen for it.
Buffy might be one they could get. Supernatural, though, is quite expensive. I know, because I worked in the table-top RPG industry and am aware of what it took for the RPG license.
-
@altruistic I'm hearing that quite a bit. I haven't played in a few months, and plan to give it a shot again. I'm just waiting for Behavior to fix the matchmaking fiasco currently going on.
-
@Fab Yeah, highest rank I ever hit was Rank 12, but I also take breaks for months at a time and rank reset always drops me down, down, down, several times.
I mainly play just to play a Slasher killer, and have never personally cared about pips and rank. So, I try to be careful in what recommendations I give for Killers, because I know many people prefer to rise in the ranks. Nothing wrong with that, mind you, just not my own play style. I did the competitive play style in Overwatch, and it damned near turned my off of gaming after 40 years as a gamer.
-
I don't own Ghostface, but I enjoy Leatherface a lot. Then again, I also don't care about rank and just play for the fun of being a slasher killer. So, your mileage may vary depending based on how you prefer to play and how high you go in the ranks.
-
@TheEntitiesNeophyte It actually doesn't take long to get to Stage 3. Well, it might in Red ranks, but I don't play at that level, so can't speak for it.
You also don't want Stage 3 (unless you have the add-ons for perma-Stage 3) unless you can down at least two survivors with it. At least, that's my opinion.
-
@ad19970 Behavior seems uninterested in doing anything about camping. The last attempt they made was losing points in an emblem for remaining within a certain proximity of the hook unless in a chase in the area.
And since then, they've stated it's a viable strategy and don't feel it needs additional nudges.
I don't expect Stranger Things to retain a bunch of new players for long, anyway, and there are a host of other issues in the game in addition to camping. One is the Perk grind on top of bloodweb RNG. And their upcoming fix, two Perks after level 40, does nothing for new players. I've had a few people try DbD, and none stayed. Their primary reason wasn't camping or tunneling, but the grind. It's just too much before a new player can get the Perks for a decent build, especially when they'll rank up a lot faster than they'll get said Teachables unlocked.
Just look back at the various free weekends and sales over the past year. They get that new player spike, but within a few weeks of it ending, numbers are back to pretty much where they were before the weekend or sale.
Same thing will happen with Stranger Things. DbD is just too new player unfriendly.

I believe they can have the game refunded within a certain amount of hours if they are dissatisfied. And that is their right. If they are not having fun, get that refund.
@Gopher If it's a Steam purchase, the game has to be played for less than two hours to get a refund. Otherwise, you have to show that the game fundamentally does not work (as in incomplete game, won't launch anymore, et cetera).
-
Smoking crater? Yeah, I'd say. People complained, so Behavior just nuked him from orbit and moved on.
-
Myers is a decent choice. And despite my avatar, I'm not actually a Myers main. I wouldn't consider myself a main of any specific killer. I just like the movies, thus the avatar.
-
Matchmaker was working well for a time. Then Behavior said: Hold our beer.
-
@FiftyCalReaper It's not that I disagree with the last three. But I'd rather, at this point now, see something original for a DLC or two than an IT license for the next one.
Also, from a lore standpoint, IT is the last thing I'd want. King wrote it so that it is an entity basically on the power level of DbD's Entity. It really doesn't make much sense that something that exists in the macroverse the way IT does, and is as powerful as it is, would suddenly be imprisoned and at the whim of this Entity.
Not unless Behavior was suddenly going to explore a mythology of Entity versus Entity, which I feel is really beyond the scope of this game. Because something like IT isn't going to simply go out and hook survivors. It's going to be pissed and fight like hell to dismantle the Entity's realm.
Plus, despite the movie and what some people assume, King owns IT. And King is not a cheap license. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
-
Hell, I won two copies of DbD for free from two different Streamers months ago during their giveaways for their Sub-A-Thon (one copy from each Streamer).
Gave them to family members. They didn't stick around. Didn't care for the grind + RNG nonsense for Perks.

My point is it isn't confirmed for before the chapter drop, so not to spend it all expecting to earn it back before ST releases.
@brokedownpalace Agreed. Unfortunately, I'm willing to bet that when Stranger Things drops they're also going to run the BP event and either a 50% sale for the base game again, or even a free weekend.
Why? Because if one thing is a constant with Behavior it's the fact that they never seem to learn. Incoming lobby simulator for Killers with a new DLC drop.
-
Ash, Ghostface, Stranger Things . . . did the Dead by Daylight creative team just give-up or go on strike?
Would be nice to see something original again, finally.
-
It's time to just give up on the matchmaker on our end and just play this song when in a trial.
-
What happened to the matchmaker? Behavior happened. At this point in the game's life, it shouldn't even come as a shock anymore.
-
Yeah, I'd like to see some of those videos as well. Because as it stands, I'm calling BS.
-
Myers (and despite my avatar, I am not a Myers main).
-
@brokedownpalace said:
The Bloodhunt is not confirmed so don't spend all your BP expecting that. Like others have suggested, spend about 50k or so before each game so you never truly cap out 😁
@brokedownpalace Actually, Peanits did confirm that a Bloodhunt is coming soon. What he said is that they have not yet announced a date, so the one posted elsewhere on the internet is incorrect. But there is one planned on their end.

@Gravnos When I played DbD, I had the chat box permanently closed, anyway.
Now, I've been in Overwatch since its Beta. And to this day, the first thing I do when I load into the game is turn off Match chat with the opposing team. I started doing that around the end of Year One.
You might be a GL/HF kind of player in match chat, but you're a minority within my own experience. And that goes for Arcade, Quick Play, and Competitive modes.
And 2-2-2 did not cut down on toxicity. It did at first on PTB, but it has gotten a lot worse since the "Beta Season" happened. It becomes glaringly obvious where the weak links are on a team under 2-2-2 (such as two DPS who can't hit a Pharah with hitscan, or a Reinhardt who has no idea of positioning, et cetera) and has led to an uptick in toxicity in my opinion (Note: I'm a support main).
Once 2-2-2 hits QP in the next day or two, expect toxicity to increase even more between those who will use the 2-2-2 QP as Competitive Practice versus those QP players still only playing for fun. Not to mention, the insane queue times for DPS players.
To help with DPS queues, Blizzard stated that they are considering widening the SR gap for the Comp matchmaker, as well as the MMR gap for the QP matchmaker. If they do, then you'll also be playing games with a matchmaker system similar to what DBD is doing right now. Oh, what fun!

@SleepyWillo Before I uninstalled out of frustration, I DC'ed quite a bit on PC simply due to the damned game crashing. And it wasn't my internet, because the internet was fine and I had zero issues in Overwatch, Paladins, Apex, or any other game.
Those DCs counted as kills in their stats. I also wasn't the only one suffering from crashes, as the forums were flooded about them around the same time.
So yes, their data was skewed and their logic behind it flawed.
-
@SleepyWillo Peanits also stated that they count DCs as kills, because: "No one DCs if they're winning."
So, the stats are already skewed.
-
This matchmaking is starting to look like a Battle Royale match: Toss everyone and anyone into a match and see what sticks to the wall.
-
When I played, I closed the chat box and never opened it again. I also have my Steam profile completely private, but I did that even before I bought DbD.

I don’t even want to respond to this. Lol.
You may not want to respond to it, but it obviously needs to be repeated. You've stated that you view DbD as a team game. Unfortunately, that is your own misconception. It is not a team game. It is a survival game. The goal is for you to survive the trial. This isn't a team game like say, Overwatch or Paladins, where teamwork is absolutely mandatory and expected per the Devs in their design.
BHVR has stated that a survivor's goal is to escape the trial. How, or whether, they assist their fellow survivors is up to them. There are emblems and BP to reward doing so, but they are not required, per BHVR.
Now, the Claudette shaking "no" to you and t-bagging in front of you was definitely unsportsmanlike conduct. But beyond that, she was not required to unhook you.

every time I play single player games I end up bored
@POTUS45 Understandable. I mean, that's how I ended-up finally feeling about PvP games this summer. Different strokes and all that.
-
You shouldn't expect to win in any PvP game all the time. That's just the nature of the beast.
Another thing you touched on that is true is the imbalance in DbD. Unfortunately, that is true of most PvP games. I've been gaming a very long time. I'm almost 47 years old. However, before Overwatch launched in 2016, I didn't PvP outside of the occasional side match in an MMO. I preferred character progression within the sense of some sort of storyline, even if the storyline was just of the typical MMO variety.
After playing Overwatch at launch, where I loved the characters, my play time flipped and suddenly I found myself eventually dabbling in other PvP games such as Paladins, Heroes of the Storm, Realm Royale, Apex Legends, and Dead by Daylight.
What I learned is that (1) PvP games are generally an unbalanced mess, (2) they contain some of the most toxic communities, (3) they all start out fun, but as time marches on they inevitably devolve into tilting, stress-inducing activities.
So, you know what? About two months ago I walked away from PvP-only games and uninstalled them. All of them. Instead, I revisited games like Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel, City of Heroes, and WoW. And I find my play time to be relaxing and fun again.
The issues with DbD are not unique to DbD. Although the nerfs, buffs, and broken complaints vary as far as specific mechanics, they flood the Overwatch, Apex, HoTS, and other PvP game forums all the same. You could cut-and-paste most of them, and just change the specific mechanics or characters being complained about, with little effort, from one forum to another. I really only hit these forums anymore out of nostalgia.
Folks who continue to play PvP games need to realize that, or consider different types of games that aren't so tilting and salt infested. If it's the horror experience, then watch a movie or join a table-top RPG group that plays horror via online group play. With Fantasy Grounds, Roll20, and Astral as options, it's easier than ever before to role-play nowadays.
-
@Boss For the majority part, I walked away from PvP-only games about two months ago. This went for Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, Paladins, Realm Royale, and Dead by Daylight.
See, before Overwatch launched in 2016, I didn't play PvP outside of the occasional MMO PvP as a side thing. But I loved Overwatch and the characters, and next thing I knew I was also messing around in the previously mentioned titles by 2018.
Three years later of playing mostly PvP games, and I realized I was done. For one, none of them are balanced worth a damn, and honestly they never will be. For another, I realized they are titles that start out as a ton of fun, but as time marches on they inevitably degrade into stress-inducing activities where I start out playing relaxed on a given night, and end the night more tilted and ticked-off than I should be.
I went back and revisited Borderlands 2. I revisited City of Heroes again via CoH: Homecoming. Hell, I've even putzed around in Roblox with my 9-year-old. I might even go visit Azeroth again.
For me, I'm fairly sure I am finished with PvP-only games moving forward. I find myself visiting the DbD or Overwatch forums more out of nostalgia than for any true desire to play again.
-
@Peanits When is this matchmaking fiasco going to be fixed? It's gone on long enough at this point that Rank even for it being used by the matchmaker is fairly useless.
-
@venom12784 Or you can stay long, and simply farm easy BP, especially with BBQ slotted. Dead by Daylight has the most broken and amateur "rank system" I have ever seen in a game. It's one of the reasons I warn many new players away from it.
The ranking system means nothing as far as skill placement, and means even less as far as being the matchmaking element. It is far, far too easily manipulated on the player end.
-
@immortalls96 I didn't say it was right. You asked them if they were serious with the comment. I simply pointed out that it's also Behavior's stance.
Right and This Dev Team are not two things I would usually put into the same sentence.
-
@immortalls96 Actually, that has been precisely what peanits has said about why people DC, and why they count DCs in their Sacrifice data. So, that's exactly how BHVR considers why people DC.
-
@venom12784 Actually, we can, indeed, go back down to those beginning gray ranks. When I last played, I was Rank 12 killer. I haven't played in many months, and logged in this weekend (alas, I didn't last long) and had deranked all the way back down to Rank 20 due to all the rank resets that happened while I was away.
All anyone who plays has to do is derank back down to Rank 15 by throwing enough matches, and come rank reset their Rank 15 will be dropped down to Rank 17 and back in the gray-newbie ranks.
-
Just . . . never mind.
-
Has zero to do with post-launch changes, but this will be the second DLC I skip buying. I've no fandom for Stranger Things same as I was never a fan of Ghostface.
-
We're a huge horror family. My father did professional SFX (as does my now 19-year-old daughter) and part of my living is writing horror. My youngest kid got into it during the first year of launch because of Myers and Freddy (and later he stayed due to SAW), and begged me to buy my own copy.
So, I did.
Don't play much anymore, though. The grind is just asinine, and the kid finally put it down and went back to his online friends in Overwatch and Roblox.
I really only played for the actual horror icons of Myers, Freddy, and Leatherface, but the whole hooking mechanic just wore on me for those characters. I just couldn't stay invested and maintain a suspension of disbelief. I also don't care for the Perk progression system. I dislike having to dump bloodpoints into killers I don't care about just to unlock Teachable perks for the killers I do enjoy, and then have the whole bloodweb also being RNG governed on top of all that.
-
@Chickenchaser said:
Any body else think it's going to look wrong seeing a demogordan hooking victims instead of ripping them apart? No just visually, but also based on it's behavior in stranger things.
@Chickenchaser About the same as Myers and Freddy hooking people, which makes no sense either. Leatherface? Sure. He's done that in the films.
Kind of why I am glad Jason hasn't been added and forced to just hook people.
About the one thing I liked about Friday the 13th: The Game is that Jason gets to actually kill people as befits the character. The hooking in DbD has always been an issue with suspension of disbelief between me and this game.
-
@Peanits Will be looking forward to seeing whatever announcement is made. As it stands currently, DBD was uninstalled a couple months ago, but I still hang around and keep track of things.
The reason for the uninstall?
The grind. DBD is a game where experimenting with Perks is core, never mind how needed certain builds are as we rank-up. The grind is so asinine, and then the RNG on top of it, that I just gave-up. Meanwhile, several friends and family that tried DBD during a free weekend immediately realized the grind + RNG ahead of them and none purchased the game.
-
You are out of your damned mind. Let me tell you something: I've been in Overwatch since launch day back in May 2016, and barely have 600 hours in the game. Why? Because I have a career, kids, and responsibilities. Plus, I play more than one game. Imagine that! I don't obsess over any one game.
So, folks like me would need 2-3 years to get 500 hours in DBD before we could start a thread with our feedback or opinions?
I don't think I need to draw a map of where your entitled post can go.
-
The number one reason why my friends and family didn't buy the game after a free weekend, and why I've basically walked away from playing DBD recently, is the asinine grind for needed Perks.
It wasn't the DLC costs, or camping or tunneling, for them. It was the grind.
There are other games out there to play for PvP that have "builds" where you don't have to keep grinding and grinding, and then pray for decent RNG on top of it, to actually create and use builds.
-
@PolarBear Sure you can, they aren't infallible. Hell, I've proven them wrong about game issue in other games over my life time.
Just here on these forums, when the Legion changes were announced, Peanits came here and stated that a missed swing does NOT deplete his power bar. Hmmmm, seems that wasn't true, and the Community Manager stated that it was.
-
@GrootDude I'm still grinding Teachables. I don't have those expect for BBQ, M&A, and Franklin unlocked (though two of them are actually from Leatherface, so that is moot).
DBD was a side game for me until this week. Now that Forced 2-2-2 has been confirmed for Overwatch, and they stated months ago it would drastically increase DPS queue times (and the wife and I have zero interest in being forced into only Tank and Support for our QP matches with our limited play time), I'm likely going to be spending more time in DBD moving forward.
-
@Condorloco_26 Thanks man! The advice is appreciated.
-
@GrootDude said:
If they rework Leatherface then I will honestly stop playing killer until another killer comes out that actually catches my interest.
@GrootDude I'm on PC, but got any tips? I got his Teachables unlocked and all, but I honestly just dumped BP into him after a bit. I could not get him to work well.
-
No. If I wanted a puzzle game, there are plenty of options out there for a puzzle game. I don't enjoy them, and don't need that kind of nonsense put into DBD.
