  • @edgarpoop and @KillermainBTWm8 Precisely, those new players are players lost. And the kicker is that since they got the game on sale (or just tried a free weekend) and therefore don't really have any investment in the title, they're also unlikely to keep tabs on it. So, even if BHVR did miraculously overhaul the grind, those players are likely gone with the wind.

I had several friends and family try it on the free weekend. They range in age from 30 to 46 (my age). They all understand games and it took them no time at all to understand Teachables, the BP grind, and the fact that on top of all that is bloodweb RNG. Once they found out about how easy it is for Vets to derank all the way down to Rank 15, and then get dumped back into the beginner ranks from there when a reset happens, they all walked away. They couldn't believe that a game with only a ranked mode would operate that way, and had zero interest in dealing with it in addition to the RNG grind.

And guess what? Not a single one of them are even glancing in the direction of DBD now. The game had its chance with them, and failed. They're players and revenue lost.

I guess at this stage, BHVR has to be banking on consoles, mobile, and the Switch, because it seems like PC isn't growing them, or in the case of Deathgarden is even spiraling.

Reminds me a lot of Hi-Rez. If not for their console and Switch players, both Paladins and Realm Royale would be circling the financial drain by now. But at least Hi-Rez has both cross-play and cross-platform progression (minus for the PS4 because: Sony).

So what you're basically saying is that Dead By Daylight is not getting any new players in the current state of the game. Darn.

@KillermainBTWm8 It's basically what Peanits said in another thread today. Their numbers are holding steady on PC, neither decreasing nor increasing, though console has grown and with Switch and Mobile on the horizon, they expect growth there.

So, basically PC failed to retain the new players from the free weekends and Steam sales. Meanwhile, their other game, which is PC-only at this stage and (oh-hum) "early access," the relaunched Deathgarden, has bled players faster than a stuck pig . . . again.

As for console, it was recently on the Playstation Pass. My 21-year-old son and his friend tried it over at their place. They didn't stick with it due to the new player grind, either.

  • @Nea_Death_Experience Unfortunately, three, going on four, years into the game's lifespan, the ship has likely sailed on Behavior making those adjustments with any meaningful results.

  • I never understood how the devs could honestly think this is not a bad thing.

@BunnyTheHutt Here's one for you: While I don't stream snipe, my Twitch name is also not my DBD in-game name. So, while I would appear in a Streamer's channel under my Twitch name, prove it is me in the DBD game when I have a different Steam name.

  • @Pompous_Clown Precisely!

@KillermainBTWm8 And it's a primary reason their numbers aren't declining or increasing, but merely holding steady, as per Peanits in another thread. All those recent Steam sales, not just the Summer sale. The free weekend. The numbers spiked for those times, then settled right back down again into the "holding steady" numbers. That means they did not retain the new players. Gee, I wonder why.

Aw You also a wow player?

I come from time to time back. Currently I playing again. The 2 new zones looking nice. But I need to say, if you 6-7+ months away from wow and you coming back, then you feeling sometimes overwhelmed by all the changes in particularly the gameplay.

Of course you don't feel the same way, when you just play the game without break times between. Then updates can't come fast enough^^.

@Talmeer I am, but not steadily like you think. This expansion, for example, I took a seven month break and just hopped back on last week for 8.2 because I had some time. Due to the catch-up mechanics, I got my main and alts geared again very quickly via World Quest rewards and Heroic Dungeons.

That's what I mean about the grind in WoW not being bad nowadays. The only grind that sucks is the reputation grinds to unlock Pathfinder for flying.

  • @Jesya Depends on the MMO. City of Heroes wasn't bad. Current WoW is very forgiving to new players. They can quest, which no longer takes all that long, or just dungeon hop, and be at the latest expansion in no time. Once in the latest expansion, catch-up mechanics get them into needed gear very fast (which they launched about four months into the expansion and have been updating since).

Dead by Daylight, though, is on the level of old-school MMOs. And there's a reason they aren't like that any more.

  • @Vampy I've suggested that in the past, only to get the vets rolling in proclaiming how the grind is the only reason to keep playing.

Well, If that's the case, then DBD has some fundamental design flaws.

Point of the matter is that not a single member of my family or friends will play DBD. They tried the free weekend at one point, saw the asinine grind, and walked away. It wasn't even the DLCs, the costs didn't bother them. It was the Perk grind on top of the grind also being RNG.

They looked at the New Player Experience they would have, and walked away to other games. Hell, I keep an eye on the game, but I uninstalled and stopped playing. The number one primary reason? The grind was just stupid. I'd rather just play Paladins, where I can experiment with my builds on any Champion right out of the gate, or even Overwatch, where I also don't need to grind on top of just focusing on improving my skills.

It's the role who's individual members are on average stronger than the other teams average individual members.

In a game of werewolf the wolves are the power role for example.

While it's not required, the numbers role is usually playing reactionary to the power role who predominantly determines the flow of the game. Dead by Daylight is an example of this not being the case, while Deathguarden, Evolve and most social deduction games are examples of this being true.

Not all asymmetrical games have to have a power role, and it is actually possible for the team with more players to be the power role and still have more players, simply by giving the other team tools to avoid confrontation in the first place.

The true misconception is that the Killers in this game is not the power role. They are, if you spawned a game with only 1 Survivor they would lose almost every time even without the EGC. The 1 survivor who is distracting the Killer is NOT 1v1ing the Killer, since the distraction only has value with the other 3 survivors keeping pressure.

It's also not true that the power role is overall stronger than the other team. When taking as a whole both teams should still be of equal power, it should just be more spread out with the numbers role than the power role. If the power role is winning disproportionally to the other team then that's still a balance issue.

I say average because if your game has 2 teams where 1 team is a team of 4 with 1 stronger and more important player with 3 less important players vs a team of 2 strong players (but less strong than the 1 player on the other team) then the team of 2 is still the power role inspite of the outlier.

In that example it would also be valid to say that the 1 player is the power role of team 1. It just depends on your scope.

@NuclearBurrito As someone who had spent nearly 15 years in game design work, albeit in the table-top industry with only a brief stint in video games (I didn't enjoy the industry and walked out, since I didn't need the income nor credits), you are correct.

  • @ArecBalrin That's why I asked. I've never gotten in trouble here, but I try to remain respectful even when asking stuff like that. They're just people doing a job, and you never know if what is said came from a higher-up and they're just following orders. I did a brief stint in video games as part of my writing career over the decades, I've seen stuff come down the pipe that the frontline folks groan about behind closed doors.

@Peanits Fair enough, man. And I thank you again for replying to me.

  • I'm sitting here scratching my head. Some people claim they can't reveal him as a survivor, and yet get revealed near instantly when playing him as a killer.

The two don't make sense together when taken as a statement made by a single person (as has been made repeatedly). I'd have to wonder if the issue isn't somewhere between the keyboard/controller and the chair.

  • @Raidoku said:

I assume I upset killer mains I am rank 4 survivor as of today lost rank 3 for playing with randoms but ok I forgot that complaining about anything killers have in the game is considered toxic ill just deal with it even tho all low tiers use the skill with other OP perks

I'm going to be honest here: if you were really rank 3, and you spent that kind of time searching for the totem, and you couldn't power through the skill checks, never mind hit Great Skill Checks, then you should not be Rank 3. I think you might actually need to de-rank at this point.

  • @ArecBalrin said:

Can BHVR restore livestream #6 on the Youtube channel so we can hear one more time when they said they would never allow premades into regular matches because it would be impossible to balance due to 3rd-party communication?

    @ArecBalrin Hang on a moment . . . .

@Peanits Can we have that missing Livestream back? Because if that's true, then something is amiss. Especially since the Devs directly said that SWF was always planned to be implemented in the October 2018 stream (or around thereabouts), which seems like convenient revisionist history on their part if what he says about the now missing Livestream #6 is accurate.

  • Never mind

in DBD 2 Comment by Kilmeran
  • If you're looking for the totem for 15-20 minutes, that's a you problem. Simply power through the skill checks and get gens done.

As for Hex: Ruin slowing down the game . . . no kidding? Really? That's the entire point of the perk and perk-slot, by the way.

  • @Captain_Doomsday Make a new thread? Enough time had passed. I no longer have an issue with rank reset. I actually would stop playing and allow reset to happen so I didn't rank-up too far before I had perks unlocked and was ready.

My 2018 thread doesn't reflect my stance by summer 2019. Someone with the issue in the current climate should make a thread about it.

    Plus Necro'ing is a no-no.

@Peanits can a mod simply delete this old thread?

  • @BadMrFrosty I actually uninstalled the game tonight, and won't be back to the forums after tonight. I'll still keep an eye on the game here and there to see if things improve, but as they stand right now, I just can't support the game and feel no desire to login anymore. BHVR has a lot of work to do, and I simply don't have confidence in them at this point in time.

in DBD 2 Comment by Kilmeran
  • @BadMrFrosty Same for me. I won't buy another Behavior title. It's why I skipped Deathgarden: Bloodharvest after the free weekend, too. I saw the writing on the wall that weekend. Checked the SteamCharts for it. Yep, I was correct.

  • Christ, one of these again. Yeah, don't bother. They get free reign. Many of us have tried to report them for "whatever" since the program was still in Pilot back in 2018. Don't waste your time.

  • @LazyPayday and @Captain_Doomsday Did you two just necro a thread I made from way back in 2018? Seriously?

  • @KhaineGB Speaking as a professional author and someone who also did game work, I would most definitely avoid religious stuff given the current climate.

in The Nun Comment by Kilmeran
  • @Ember_Hunter I really do wish I could have been some help, but I simply have zero experience using the mousepad on a laptop for these types of games, nor does my wife or anyone I know. If I did, I would have helped as much as I could.

If feasible, though, as someone else has stated, ask your parents (or whoever) about a low-cost mouse. You can usually even find them at a Dollar Store. Unlike if you were playing an FPS, you don't really need a super-accurate gaming mouse for DBD to do what needs to be done.

  • @Ember_Hunter The reason why you're not finding guides is likely because there aren't nearly enough folks out there playing games like DBD without either a mouse or controller. I sure wouldn't play such a game using only the laptop mousepad.

  • @ArecBalrin They deleted it very well. Not even a Google search using various keywords brings up anything. Convenient. Don't you just love revisionist history? BHVR is very, very good at it when it comes to SWF.

As Eugene Krabs would say: Money, money, money, money, money.

  • I used to do them, but I don't bother any longer.

  • @KillermainBTWm8 said:

I hoped this would have talked about how overpriced the cosmetics are and how unfriendly the game is to new players since every DLC costs money or an exorbitant amount of game time especially for a new player. It drives them away I had friends that looked at the game during the game pass and said nope because of how many killers and survivors you have to buy.

@KillermainBTWm8 It wasn't just the number of DLCs to buy, it was the sheer amount of grinding, on top of the asinine RNG, to hopefully get the needed perks for decent builds, that stopped my own friends and family from buying the game after trying a free weekend on Steam.

They have zero interest in grinding the RNG mess, especially with de-ranking being such an issue and having to go against Vet players before they even have a decent basic build. If they wanted a grind at that level of grind, there are better games out there. If they wanted to get dumped into a pool with Vets and chewed apart, there are also better games out there.

  • Not too often. I still primary play Overwatch with the wife, just putzing around in Mystery Heroes, Quick Play, and some custom workshop games.

When I do play DBD, it's just casual play to run around as Myers, Freddy, or Leatherface, the horror icons I grew-up on as a kid in the 80s (born in '72). And if I don't feel like a PvP format, then I just fire-up Friday the 13th and play offline mode against hard bots and run around as Jason.

I won't take DBD seriously, and don't rank-up. Especially with monthly reset always dropping me back down to somewhere in the gray ranks. So, I just farm BP and mess around in here.

It will probably get better with the map reworks, since you'll have better chances at downing survivors fast enough with more mindgameable loops.

@ad19970 We have two map reworks in the next calendar year, unless I missed something on the roadmap. At that rate, it's going to be a damned long time before things truly get better.

Yes i have faced that too, a killer hitting you from way too far, which is really unfair. Is there a confirmed date for the dedicated server?

@sluc16 As confirmed as can be on such things: September 2019. Naturally, something on the tech end could always delay it. And keep in mind as well that how good their Netcode is will also be a huge factor on how good the servers run for us. If the netcode isn't done correctly, we're still going to have a host of issues.

  • Survivor: Ace. I like nothing about the character. Can't put my finger on it, I just don't like him in the slightest.

Killer: Nurse. For some reason, her Blink animation makes me nauseous after a minute or two.

  • @MainSusie_Feng No worries, you're far from the first one thinking this was associated with the Scream franchise, and you most assuredly won't be the last.

This was a failure on Behavior's part for not making it abundantly clear from the start that they only licensed the mask from the people who own the mask, and did not actually license the Scream I.P. Especially when for so many people, the mask is associated with Scream now the way a hockey mask is with Friday the 13th in the horror genre.

  • @TAG said:

Pretty sure Peanits said that they skipped it because the questions were too similar.

    He did relay that, yes.

  • @Shaped Oh, you don't need to source me. I know it's true. I was merely speaking in terms of the games I have personal experience in. But like I said, outside of those Overwatch test runs, I don't play on console myself. I don't even own a single console. I don't like controllers. I always remap my PC games to the keys where my muscle memory is situated. I just don't have the patience to struggle until I develop new muscle memory for all the controller buttons.

My 9-year-old, however, only uses a controller for his PC games. He hates mouse and keyboard. I always hear about controller on PC being a liability. Maybe in top-tier play? I watch this kid headshot people like crazy in PC Overwatch using a controller, as Hanzo no less. And he plays on the wife's account, which isn't a low MMR either.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/567442#Comment_567442

Ok so what's the point of the thread anyways? Console players are babies PC players are gods? Is that what you want to read? 🤔

@Yamaoka I would not go as far as to say either of those are true. There can certainly be outstanding players on console that could wipe a floor with a PC player, but that is not the average case in my experience.

I also play cross-platform with console players in Paladins and Realm Royale, and a lot of the times you can clearly tell who the console players are. Whether it's pleasant to say or not, there is a discernible skill gap. Why? I don't know. But it isn't just a hardware issue. Read their forums and Reddit, others notice the gap as well. Hell, console players complain about it when facing PC players, and want the ability to opt-out (which Hi-Rez now offers).

    I don't believe DBD should entertain a cross-platform thought.

  • @Augustus_IRL We had a family friend migrate from Xbox Overwatch to PC Overwatch this past year. Now, keep in mind, he is also a PC gamer, not just a console player, so he is very familiar with mouse+leyboard usage. He just happened to only play Overwatch on Xbox for two years.

His play ability on our team was atrocious, and this was just in Quick Play. The methods he used to play Heroes like Reinhardt, Zarya, and Winston were instant respawns. Constantly. He was Low Diamond on Xbox, did his PC placements and was mid-silver.

We had to teach him how to play Overwatch the correct way.

  • @AetherBytes said:

It's punishment for not doing totems. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • @Augustus_IRL said:

Its not even about PC hardware being better than console its just console players are so much more behind in skill compared to pc players.

Then they will cry when you work them and message you saying "your parents should be ashamed at how pathetic you are" LOL

@Augustus_IRL What's funny is that it doesn't seem to be a DBD-only thing. I'm a PC player and have been in Overwatch since launch. The few times I jumped over and played on a relative's Xbox One version of Overwatch, it was night and day in skill level. I used Heroes I rarely ever play, and was mowing through my opponents.

Someone told me that PC players tend to be more "hardcore" and "serious" than console players, but I don't know if that is true. I don't play consoles outside of those Overwatch runs. But the skill gap is definitely wide.

  • Well . . . at least I'll finally save a few bucks and skip a DLC. Stranger Things didn't impress me in the slightest.

  • @Swiftblade131 said:

Can't we go one day without complaining about a change?

They didn't buff or nerf any killers or perks

Who cares if you can get some more BP as survivor? Maybe now they won't DC so often cause there's an actual amount of points to gain.

Personally it won't affect how often I play killer or survivor.

A day without complaining about a change? At no game forum, anywhere.

  • @SmokePotion What rank are you? I reset back to the upper gray ranks due to not playing for a couple of months, and tonight never had a queue above three minutes (which I can handle, since that's even about where my QP queues are in Overwatch nowadays).

I'm also going to assume PC platform, since I see your name at the Deathgarden forums as well when I check out that game to see how bad the player retention is doing nowadays.

  • @AetherBytes Let me know on my Wall if you get it resolved. I've never been banned by EAC (knock on wood) but from all I hear at various sites and forums, they are notoriously bad about responding. As in: the reputation is Legendary.

And it has not improved in the slightest since Epic bought them out.

  • @AetherBytes said:

Well, when the program that runs the ######### RGB lighting of your machine gets you banned, I'm surprised turning on your computer doesn't get you banned.

    ######### EAC.

@AetherBytes In all honesty, EAC isn't all that great, I'm not sure why so many companies want to keep paying Epic for the license. Just go ask Respawn, for example, how well it's worked out for them in Apex Legends.

  • As multiple people have stated in this thread, and has been stated ad nauseam in threads since Ghostface was revealed, Behavior licensed the mask, not Scream. The mask is owned by a separate company and pre-dated Wes Craven doing Scream. The Scream movie licensed the mask for usage.

Behavior licensed the mask from the owning company, and created an original killer to wear it. They did not license anything from Scream. This was not a Scream DLC. So no survivor from the film or tv show will be coming.

  • Never mind. To hell with the broken formatting coding on this trash-tier forum program.

  • @DarkGGhost That's the hill you want to die on? Okay then, please link me to the Developer update or posts that explain how Survivor BP increase is being done as a "free" BP giveaway per match.

  • @Rizzo said:

If i recall correctly, but i may be wrong, the game gives you dailies of the characters you play less.

@Rizzo90 Not even then. I play Myers, Bubba, and Freddy the most, and constantly get Bubba and Freddy dailies.

  • @TheBean I'll admit, I used to state that I found Survivor boring, but I also came to realize I was going about it wrong. I was simply trying to GenRush (the main objective) and not doing Totems, chests, heals, et cetera.

Now, that said, I'm still grinding out a hell of a lot of teachable Perks. So, naturally I run Killers with BBQ, which is generally easy to get at least three stacks in, if not all four. If they adjust the BP gain on Survivors, I'd gladly play both sides more. I'm a killer main right now, but even that gets boring after a week or two, so I end-up not playing at all and migrating back to Overwatch.

Given the grind I still have to do, Survivors definitely need more BP so I can split my time better in DBD.

  • @Shaped said:

Recently I am kinda impatient so I just close the game and play something else after 5 minutes. Or I just play killer because on ps4 it is a lot faster than survivor.

@Shaped I'm on PC, and pretty much the same. If my Killer lobby hits about 5-7 minutes, I just close the game and go play Overwatch or putz around in offline mode in F13 for a little bit.

I have limited play time, and can't spend it sitting in a lobby. I'll go pop into Overwatch since it's summer time, the kids and rarely-play college folks are all back in the game so the matches suck across the board, and I'll just spend the summer months learning characters I rarely play, like Hanzo, McCree, and Doomfist. Not sitting in DBD praying to the lobby gods for a match.

  • @ClogWench said:

@ClogWench Well, I just learned not to read your posts while in the middle of drinking something. 😂

1 … 34 35 36 37 38 … 58
