  • @Penny Oh god . . . Roy. The only Jason I will not play over in Friday the 13th on principle.

Then again, part of me would prefer Roy over BHVR reducing Jason to a mere screw-toy hooking-machine for The Entity. Bad enough Freddy was reduced to that, but at least I can take fandom comfort in the fact that it's the crappy remake Freddy, and not the real Freddy. ๐Ÿ˜

U forgot one quote: "next chapters could be anything, there is absolutly nothing off the table, right now... there is nothing to be for us" - Mathieu Cote

and yea, Money do almost everything, which means they CAN get the license, its gonna be hard af and expensive, but once again, there is nothing off the table.

@Penny And you seem to forget that despite what Matt said as a broad, general statement, unless something magically changes in Victor Miller vs Horror, Inc., BHVR cannot get the Jason license because it is tied up in litigation, and will be for some time yet.

It isn't money. It's called the Courts.

In the most technical sense, Ghost Face is a original killer, the only license BHVR took was the mask. But the power, story (pretty good bio), and appearance are unique to this version of Ghost Face (even if one of the cosmetics make references to other Ghost Faces, possibly alluding to the Scream franchise)

@Shad03 Oh, I'm aware of the is, but isn't, sense for Ghostface. Mask or Scream, though, they still licensed for it. And they even did it in such a way that for those who don't follow the forums, enough thought it was going to be a Scream license.

Time to get off the horror icons and licensing and get back to creating killers original to Dead by Daylight for a little while.

  • @ocafghanistan It's certainly the impression I've gotten over the past 18 or so months.

  • @LordGlint Damn it! I forgot about VR.

  • @TheBean I assume that was meant tongue-in-cheek. Because if the Devs honestly believed that . . . well, let me stop buying DLCs and stuff right now, because the game has shown a lack of consistent growth as it is and has generally remained flat on Steam. It'll be a matter of time before it finally declines.

I prefer games that stick around more than 4-5 years. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I mean, they touted that they expect new growth with the Switch release and mobile. That's great. But someone should let them know that after those two, they're out of new platforms to target for initial sales growth. Actually being able to retain new players might be something they want to look at.

They say DbD has sold millions of copies. Well, the retention sucks.

  • Yep, and people wonder why, at least on Steam, DbD hasn't been able to retain significant numbers of new players after any free weekend or sale in the almost 18 months I've been following the game.

This is one of the few communities actually dumb enough to blatantly try to kill their game's growth and longevity.

  • @Iceman Are you sure? Because the understanding I, and others, have is that the Rift is a battlepass, and the Archives is the Lore based feature.

    Two different things.

Plus, in the threads discussing a Battlepass, Behavior already came in an commented that they are watching the concerns in such threads and passing them on to the team, and will be revealing information soon. They've never corrected that the Rift is not a battlepass.

But Archives is the Lore feature with its own cosmetics for completing the different things. Both are listed on the roadmap as New Archive and New Rift, indicating two different things being released at the same time.

No time when you're pumping out badass dlcs every 3 months.

@BBQnDemogorgon It's kind of like a pseudo-EA model, isn't it? Why fix the things and do some QoL passes that make a difference, and take time, when you can just pump out DLCs and (soon) battlepasses.

Behavior Interactive: What's in your wallet?

That's how this whole thing is starting to feel.

  • It's time for a few original releases.

Ash, Ghostface, Stranger Things, all in a row. Enough with the licensed stuff already.

You guys remember how to be creative, right? I'm starting to wonder.

  • @misterti The only thing that would excite me would be if they actually did the separate ranks for each killer.

I'm not a Stranger Things fan (and am not a Ghostface fan, either) so these last two licensed DLCs have been complete "whatevers" from me.

Ash, Ghostface, now Stranger Things . . . did the folks who design and develop original killers go on strike or something?

Don't care about the battlepass, either. I've played games in the past with a battlepass system: Paladins, Realm Royale, and Apex Legends. Didn't buy them then, won't be buying them now. I don't play video games enough to grind them out, and I won't be baited into playing more.

Unless Chapters 14 and 15 do something besides yet another license, and create a killer worth something (unlike Plague), this entire roadmap year will be a bust for me.

  • @BBQnDemogorgon Guess that means for the first part, I'm probably going back to putzing around in F13 or Overwatch, then. So, I'm probably going to hold off on the upcoming DLC.

I can handle bugs. I can handle slow fixes. The one thing I have zero patience for is poor servers in an online game. I left Heroes of the Storm, a Blizzard game no less, over just that issue.

  • @BBQnDemogorgon Well, then they damned well better have the netcode ironed out. Because as of the last test, it was far from ready for prime-time on my end. And it wasn't my internet (as some on the forums like to argue). I have top of the line internet, and can run Overwatch at max with Netflix also streaming with zero lag or noticeable delay.

    It was definitely the servers.

And I am east coast, United States. So, I doubt my signal has to travel far to ping their servers.

  • @BBQnDemogorgon I read it, and then clicked the "x" to close it so it never appears again. I thought I remembered it being green. Maybe it was purple. I don't even know now.

Either way, Stranger Things comes out Tuesday. ๐Ÿ˜

  • Has there even been official word that dedicated servers are coming with the DLC on the 17th?

Because if there was, I missed it. And given what I experienced on the PTB with the dedicated servers, the netcode still needs a lot of work, so I would hope they're not launching them in a mere six days.

  • @Sairek It was announced in the green banner at the top of the forums today that the DLC comes out on the 17th. Which is this coming Tuesday.

  • @joker7997 I don't presume they do, nor did I say they currently did. Three years ago, though, I thought the same thing about lootboxes and governments.

And look where lootboxes are now in several countries, and the U.S. already has several States considering banning sales of them within the State, as well as Congress discussing them.

It all depends on whether some folks in the psychiatric field deem them an addiction trigger or not one day. If they do, and they get enough word to the right people? Then yeah, they'll eventually be in the cross-hairs just like lootboxes.

And don't assume that video games are not a huge thing in the Mental Health field. Not only is Video Game Addiction something they're concerned with, but video games have been used in the treatment of schizophrenia. How do I know? Because I've researched both topics extensively for novels, including multiple and repeated interviews with experts in the field. The experts are also concerned with addiction in general and the predatory practices of the video game industry, which is what led to the lootbox situation in the first place.

  • @joker7997 I'm well aware what capitalism is. I've been a fiction author for over 25 years, plus have worked in licensing, table-top games, video games, television, and comics books for Marvel. I'm not only well aware of capitalism, but I'm intimately aware of the relationship between the entertainment industry and its consumer base.

So don't presume to preach to me. I've done it for a living for over a quarter of a century.

And if the companies and studios will not police themselves, then the government will eventually do it for them. It might take a specific one party or another to be in control of both chambers of Congress (speaking from a U.S. standpoint), but it will eventually happen.

It has in the past with network television. It's happened in the past with some aspects of cable television. It's currently in the early stages with social media investigations and potential regulations. And there have already been talks about lootboxes within the United States, never mind the countries overseas that have already gone after them.

If battlepasses are deemed to be predatory based on addiction triggers, then they'll eventually have their due as well. It doesn't matter how you feel about them, or how I feel about them, anymore than that's mattered in regards to the lootbox issue. It matters how the elected officials in Washington view them, should battlepasses get on their radar.

  • I'm disagreeable by nature, so: No.

  • @Milo Due to being away since before the summer, I am currently reset to Rank 19 on my return. My killer queues have been about 2-4 minutes, and that is late at night around 11pm EST in the U.S.

Can't complain about the low ranks, either, right now.

And that is on PC, since I know it varies between platforms.

  • Hmmm . . . I have to admit that that sounds fair.

    @Mr_K @Kilmeran

Dev McCote did use to work at EA, at one point in his life. So none of this is surprising to me

Oh, I'm aware. In late 2018, I used to point that out to folks here at the forums. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I can liken several things in DbD to the "EA model," so to speak, and his time with EA shows.

But Behavior is still better than Blizzard Team 4 (the Overwatch dev team). Yeah, Kaplan and his team can rot. If nothing else, at least I feel like Behavior cares. Might not always agree with their direction for DbD, but that goes for any live service game. Players and Devs will never align all of the time.

But at the end of the day, I'm happy to make DbD my main game moving forward. Albeit on my limited play time.

  • @tortrader Ah, gotcha. I wasn't playing or following DbD for almost six months, so wasn't around for any summer event vs bloodhunt talks.

    Thanks for the clarification.

  • @MiniPixels said:

If they don't do it within a week of the release of the DLC, don't hype yourselves up for one, since it got cancelled that doesn't necessarily mean they will reschedule it.

@MiniPixels By "got cancelled," if you mean the September 5th date announced at the Wiki, Peanits said in the forums the week before the 5th that the Wiki was incorrect, and no Bloodhunt Event had been announced by Behavior.

He stated they did have one planned for soon, but that they were not ready to announce anything yet.

  • @Madjura Another thing those who claim that it isn't up to the developers to care about players' mental health seem to forget is the very cold reality that if the game developers continue to not care, various governments will.

Thus, what is happening with lootboxes. If battlepasses expand enough throughout the industry and raise the right flags concerning video game addiction and/or other mental health triggers, they'll one day be on the radar as well.

  • @Bravo0413 If seasons remain one month long, Tru3 is going to have an aneurysm trying.

  • Myers and Ash.

Because I'm 46 years old and grew-up with them as part of my 80s childhood.

  • @Mr_K said:

Is BHVR listening to EA consultants again?

@Mr_K I have to be honest here: That thought crossed my mind as well.

  • @Bravo0413 Funny you should say that about Tru3. I was watching Space Coconut's video last night on Rank vs Skill, and he said the same thing about Tru3 and the separate killer ranks.

And then I thought: Yeah, that should be pretty damned entertaining. ๐Ÿ˜

(Disclaimer: Space Coconut wasn't bad mouthing Tru3, and stated that he felt confident that Tru3 could actually do it. But that it would be entertaining to watch.)

  • @Weck I imagine that's true once you know the game. Now, even though I post at the forums a lot because I really do like a lot of the folks here and it beats the hell out of Facebook (which I really only use for my author career anyway), I didn't get into DbD until the June 2018 Steam Summer Sale.

Because Overwatch was my primary game from launch day in May 2016 until a few months ago when the wife and I just had enough of that development team, I have less than 100 hours in DbD.

Dead by Daylight is my primary game now, but given that I need to publish several novels a year for readers, play time is still limited. So, I still have a long way to go to juggle different things in a match. I think for me, as I learn the maps, learn when to chase and when not to, learn how to apply pressure as different killers, also protecting a Hex Totem might not work so well right now.

Baby steps, as they say. ๐Ÿ˜

My highest rank ever was 12, and I got there way too fast. It happened during one of the free weekends when we had a ton of new players and matches were far too easy. Usually, I hover between 17 and 15 or so. Due to not playing for months, I'm currently reset to Rank 19. And I imagine on my limited play time right now, I won't climb too far because I also want to learn survivor and unlock perks over there. So, it'll already be a split play time.

I will eventually rank up, and of course my preferred builds will change as a result. But I don't want it to happen too fast. I need to learn a bit, first. I feel that in these low ranks, Ruin will be easy pips. And I don't want pips because of a single perk. Otherwise, I know my play style after 40 years of gaming: I'll become reliant on Ruin, on purpose or not, and then suffer at the higher ranks.

I hope all that made sense.

  • I actually thought about unlocking Ruin since I have the BP now to do so. After a lot of thought, I decided against it. It's not really going to fit my play style, and I think I might be able to get better mileage out of other perk combinations.

Now, I'm not purple or red ranked and also not very experienced in DbD gameplay, but for me, I'm going to skip it. I'm also not a fan of Hex Totem perks in general. Too much spawn RNG for my tastes, when I can run more consistent perks or perk combinations.

  • @Bravo0413 Do we know if the rework includes the separate ranks for each killer that they mentioned at one point? Because that is what I'm really wanting. It will make expanding my roster and actually learning new killers much less frustrating.

  • @UlvenDagoth said:

Expected? By some, whine that you are entitled to 4ks. Others, for you to start your game and walk away from the computer. My advice? Just play the game and "gg" then leave.

@UlvenDagoth Hey, buddy, I never "gg" after a match. I keep my chat box permanently closed and just leave.

If I wanted to risk toxicity, I'd go swim in a nuclear power plant's run-off. ๐Ÿ˜

  • @MiniPixels That's not what people mean by timed cosmetics, especially in relation to cosmetics offered by battlepasses (in any game that has such a pass).

Each Battlepass exists for a set amount of time, be it two months or three months. Within that time, you have a chance to play a lot and grind Battlepass levels for rewards, with some levels granting Battlepass exclusive cosmetics.

When the battlepass time ends, you got the rewards you grinded out. Those levels you didn't achieve, you didn't get.

The battlepass goes away, and with it the chance to earn those rewards. Then a new battlepass with new rewards is put into the cash shop. Rinse, repeat.

By timed, it means to have a limited time to grind for them, and if you miss getting them, you miss owning them. Sometimes forever.

Those you earned, you keep for the life of the game.

  • @BackByDaylight I don't tunnel, either. But that isn't the point. The Devs have said that, if a Killer chooses to, it is a viable strategy in some cases.

I play survivor, too. What don't I do? Come to the forums and complain about tunneling. It happens. Take the crap and move on to the next match.

  • Never mind

  • For the devs, Generators are like Fight Club.

    You don't talk about Generators.

  • @UlvenDagoth

<------------- long time Overwatch player right there. Some Beta and since Day 1. Thousands of posts at their forums. And like here, never asking for nerfs or buffs or discussing balance issues.

You could cut and past the crap from here right to Overwatch, just change a Perk name to a hero's power, and there you go.

Hell, since RoleQ has been forced on Overwatch and DPS queue times have sky-rocketed, you now have the Us vs Them fights going on between the Support/Tank mains and the DPS mains, mirroring Survivor main vs Killer main here.

    It's all extremely pathetic.

  • The whole "angry teens thing" and ranting from there . . .

I remember one poster who made that argument several times. I won't name them, but I learned outside the forums to take whatever they said with a grain of salt.

  • @UlvenDagoth Same. Never used the add-on exploit nor the moonwalking one. Hell, didn't even know they existed until the forums spelled it out, and still never did it.

Old Legion was fun. And yes, I say that from the point of both playing as him and against him.

But the internet is the perfect example of millions of idiots spreading their disease unchecked. It's why we can't have nice things in online games.

  • @UlvenDagoth Tell me about it. I want to play Legion. But he seems to have some sort of undocumented ability that gives survivors a unique emote whenever they see him in a match.

They drop to the ground and roll around in laughter. :(

  • Six months? Nope, he's getting the Freddy treatment. They'll look at him again in 2021.

  • @Regionlock I have news for you. I have damn near top of the line internet, in a major east coast metropolitan area (not some rural area). I run games like Overwatch at extremely high FPS while streaming Netflix on my second monitor. No lag, no noticeable delay.

And I will tell you that so far, the PTB tests of their dedicated servers have been atrocious.

And this was a fear I had when they first announced them. As of right now, I do not have confidence in the quality of their netcode, and it seems to need a lot of work before it launches to live. Unless they have something up their sleeve, I can't fathom pushing them to live by the "end of summer," which is September 23rd, less than two weeks away.

  • Me. I'm always my worse teammate.

  • @gcardoso What it sounds like is that you liked it better before there was the End Game Collapse. Unfortunately, the community showed they were too immature for it to remain that way. Too often, the last survivor would not go for the hatch and would hide somewhere on the map, sometimes forcing the game to draw out for upward of an hour in an attempt to troll the Killer and force them to DC and therefore get nothing for the match.

Hell, I had it happen to me multiple times within my first two months of playing DbD when I bought it summer 2018. Thing for me, though, is that I have a beast of a computer. So I would toss DbD over to the second monitor, launch Overwatch on my main monitor, and let DbD sit there until the survivor got sick of it and finally left. I would run both games and lag in neither.

When that had to happen, I would get three to five Overwatch matches played before they finally left and ended my DbD match. That's an average of 30 to 50 minutes.

EGC and what we have now prevents that. And it came about specifically because of that player behavior.

Thank the trolls in our community for EGC and how it is now, which BHVR said isn't going to be changed because it achieved its goal: it stopped that behavior.

  • I arrived June 2018. My first was Myers. Why? It needs no explanation. It's Michael Myers.

  • Is this a bait post, or does the OP simply have a very poor understanding of how asymmetrical game design works?

  • @Cymer Don't worry, I completely agree with your assessment. :)

And still being new and still learning maps and how things can spawn, I wonder if PGTW will get me enough mileage right now, since what gens to kick and how to set things up in your favor is vital to it.

For example, I can get them hounded into a 3-gen strat on my Doc fairly often, but on other killers not so much thus far.

But part of me also fears that Ruin becomes a crutch perk for learning such things. It's not something I want to become reliant on (intentional or not) as I get serious about learning parts of this game.

  • @Cymer Yep, already had his channel subscribed to after someone mentioned it in another thread a few days ago. I really like that video, and even watched the one for survivors and perks. He's very helpful. I might even check out his Twitch stream.

@EntityUnknown Interesting. Outside of Enduring and Spirit Fury, I already have all the others you mentioned unlocked. Got Bamboozle off the Shrine a while back, and unlocked Doc's teachables so M&A is open.

@Fab You know, I'm going to be honest: Being the RNG Hex style perk aside, that has been another concern with Ruin. I never know, I might eventually have more time to play and actually be able to rank-up higher between resets. If that day comes, I'm not sure I want to use Ruin now. The long-time gamer in me feels like it's going to cause shortcomings in my play development because I'm going to end-up learning to rely on it, instead of not using it and focusing on learning gen pressure and when to break chases. Thoughts? (plus, it sounds like PGTW is better at higher ranks, anyway.)

  • @The_Manlet That echoed my own thinking before asking for feedback in this thread. But I wasn't sure if my read of Ruin vs PGTW was correct because, as I admitted, I am not overall very experienced with DbD.

But then again, given the ranks I hover at, and the fact that I am not interested in getting into the higher, more stressful ranks, I wonder if either is really needed for me.
