  • @LordGlint Going to reply to two of your posts here, one to me and one to Justarandy

An original Mercy main, huh? I played DPS during that era (76 and Junkrat), but I truly felt for you guys. They screwed Mercy, several times, six ways from Sunday. My (now) 19-year-old daughter was our Mercy main back then in our six-stack. She stopped playing OW after the first Mercy rework and never returned.

How they handled Mercy was my first, solid clue that Kaplan and Goodman learned nothing from their years in WoW and the cancelled Project Titan MMO. Geoff Goodman, the head of balance in OW, handled balance in WoW back when we had full talent trees and whatnot. He could not balance worth a damn, and did hot-and-cold running class reworks constantly. And made it even worse.

    Sound familiar?

Jeff Kaplan used to play EQ1 on my server before he landed a job at Blizzard. He used to throw temper tantrums at the Devs on the forums constantly, and if his guild didn't get a World First for new content, he would throw a tantrum and hold "guild sit downs," bringing a mess of people to a single area to crash the servers.

Kaplan, even back then, swung from the scrotum of the top players, but could never get into their circle.

He still swings from it as the Game Lead for Overwatch, and it shows.

As for your other post: Well, Behavior honestly doesn't have a choice except doubling down on DbD and making it financially successful through any means necessary. Whatever amount they've dumped into Deathgarden has utterly failed: twice, now.

DbD is really the only cash cow they have to milk, and I'm sure they would also like to recoup some of that Deathgarden and Deathgarden: Bloodharvest investment. Which is why I am keeping a very critical eye on what they're doing as far as DLCs and Battlepasses. Right now, it's fine by my personal standards (you pointing things out to me earlier helped a lot), but it can just as easily cross my line.

  • @LordGlint Yeah, RoleQ is forced 2-2-2 in both Comp and Quick Play. The wife and I played mostly Supports, so unlike DPS our queues were fast, and we absolutely hated RoleQ. It's just so boring. Especially with the meta in Comp and Quick Play (yes, it has a meta now) being a double-barrier of Orisa-Reinhardt or Orisa-Sigma (the new shield tank).

Double Barrier 8 out of 10 matches, I kid you not. It's boring as all hell.

So, we moved on. Her to Roblox with the 9-year-old; me to DbD and F13.

And we started Overwatch on launch day.

  • @Pm_me_entity_lewds It doesn't make any sense to me either.

And it isn't even that Behavior is "de-ranking you legally," as you put it. De-ranking yourself is unpunished in Dead by Daylight. Some of their biggest streamers are known for purposefully deranking on live streams. And yeah, Behavior is aware of it.

  • You look at Ghostface and his power is countered. He's the John Cena of DbD

Thats one thing I think Overwatch did well, was a ranking system. It didnt let everyone and their mom to hit top 500 (Pretty sure Gold was average) and had rank rewards. I use to have a list of grievances about DBD, but that list is slowly getting checked off by the devs. Cant wait to see what they do about Doc.

@LordGlint Yeah, the Overwatch ranking system was one of the few things I felt that that game did right. At least before RoleQ. Now it's all over the place and as much of a mess as ranks here in DbD.

Overwatch also banned you for intentionally de-ranking if they caught you. You wouldn't dare see an Overwatch streamer intentionally de-ranking on their streams. Especially when Blizzard has banned people like xQc simply for toxic behavior in matches. Behavior that they easily caught after he was reported thanks to the fact that he streamed it.

Want to de-rank in DbD? No problem. Some of the bigger Fog Whisperers even do it live on stream and chuckle about it.

Gold used to be the average in Overwatch. Past few seasons, Jeff said it was high gold to mid-plat. Though thanks to the cluster **** that is RoleQ, I expect the average to easily drop back to around mid-gold.

Not that I'll follow it to know. Overwatch and Bnet are uninstalled, and I can't see me giving Blizzard another shot. Damned shame, because I was a Blizzard player for 25 years, ever since Warcraft: Orcs and Humans way back in 1994.

I appreciate the cool headed conversation. Alot of ppl on these forums tend to get kinda hot headed and communication just breaks down. I say this alot on these forums, but as someone who hit rank 1 first using OG Freddy without unlocking ruin... I have a hard time believing XYZ perk is required and XYZ killers are the only viable killers at rank 1. I tend to stick with mid and low tier killers. Ive tried dipping my toes in with playing Billy, Spirit and Nurse but... The learning curve is abit steep, lol. Highest tier killer I like to use now is NEW Freddy.

@LordGlint I hear you. I'm almost 47 years old and feel like a decent debate or even a civil discourse is a rare breed today.

I feel the same about Billy, Nurse, and Spirit. They're just too much of a learning curve for me. I much prefer Doc, Myers, and Leatherface, which is why I don't ever want to hit the high ranks. Not unless I end up having the time to actually get that good at the game. Unfortunately, one can rank up faster than one's actual skill develops. I really would prefer a tougher ranking system for just that reason.

  • @LordGlint You actually bring up good points that I had overlooked. Thank you.

And you know what, I'm going to take what you said and look into this further. Not to try to prove you wrong, but rather because I'm likely being unfair to the Dev team here.

And I'd rather be fair, especially since now that I've uninstalled Overwatch and Blizzard entirely, I've considered making DbD my primary game. I'd just rather not fall into another Overwatch situation where the Dev Team is basically out of their league with the game.

  • @Rizzo said:

@aurum_exe If you think you can do better, please apply: https://www.bhvr.com/job-opportunities/

    Nothing like professionalism, huh?

  • @LordGlint He mentioned others besides just Ruin and BBQ in a list of issues vs perk fixes. Might have been in the OPs video, I don't know, To be honest, the two kind of blurred together for me.

Regardless, DbD is just not a game I'll take seriously. I've already decided to just play casually and mess around (or meme around, whatever it's called) and just stay in the gray and yellow ranks. Won't be hard, since I don't have a lot of play time between rank resets every month anyway.

But that also means that whereas in the past I bought every DLC for the Perks and to maintain the collection, Perks are a lot less meaningful to me now. So now, whether or not I buy a DLC is purely based on the theme. I'm not a fan of Ghostface or Stranger Things, so those two are a skip for me.

Playing casually in-between other games also means I'll skip buying the Battlepass. I refuse to grind them anyway. I gave Paladins, Realm Royale, and Apex all one try on each of their Battlepass offerings. They're not worth the grind time.

Hell, if I want to grind to that degree, I'll go play Path of Exiles or some other ARPG.

  • @LordGlint I think his video mentions examples well enough. I'll leave it with his examples since I agreed with them. Not being snarky, I'm just back and forth from the PC helping the wife with housework, and don't have time to list and explain the ones I see that way.

But I agreed with his video examples.

  • @LordGlint I have no issue with DLCs on their own. I've bought enough DLCs for games over the years.

But even before Space Coconut pointed out how in many instances Behavior doesn't fix a problem but instead sells you a DLC Perk to fix the problem (maybe he should have called it Pay-to-Fix instead of Pay-to-Win), I already noticed that way back in late 2018.

And that is what I've a growing issue with. I've said before that Behavior has me flashing back more and more to a pseudo-EA model (and Cote used to work for EA), and that is a huge reason why.

The wife and I make six-figures a year. We have disposable income and can easily become whales in any game. But I'm less inclined to support a company who uses DLC content as a means to fix problems that the Devs should be fixing normally, as opposed to a company who releases DLC simply for new content.

Yes, the DLCs for DbD have new content. But Space Coconut is correct in what he says about Behavior using paid DLC perks as fixes to underlying problems in the game, instead of actually performing development fixes for them.

  • I actually prefer this video from him. Same basic topic, though.

  • @thatguyinktown Okay, that I did not know about the unlocked doors. Interesting.

  • @thatguyinktown I'm still very new at F13. Just hit Level 13, almost 14. But I love the game. I play on PC, by the way.

Lately, because I play later at night, I've been doing bots and the challenges since nighttime lobbies seem to take a while. Still, even in bots and challenges, I find the game fun. And since I don't play games every night due to my career, it stops them from betting boring too fast.

  • @Dr_Loomis said:

The game in general can be.

    It can be extremely frustrating.

Friday 13th was much better. Way more fun.

I'm a long-time player of both games and enjoy DBD, but F13 will always be my no1 online horror game.

@Dr_Loomis I feel the exact, same way. I still hope that one day a studio that gives a damn about their game creates a game in the vein of Friday the 13th. I like DbD, but Friday the 13th did so many things so much better, despite its warts.

Good news is, the growing popularity of DbD, and Behavior's accolades of having sold millions of copies of the game, seems to be bringing more attention to the asymmetrical genre. So, maybe we'll get a real competitor to DbD down the line. This game needs a solid competitor. Then Behavior either ups their game, or falls.

  • Generators aren't the issue. The maps are. All of the old maps need a serious rework.

  • @Mochan While I'm sure low-rank survivor brackets are a bit of hell, I was mainly referring to having to play Solo Survivor, itself, which the forums seem to indicate occupies the lowest circle of hell. ๐Ÿ˜

  • @HarryToeknuckles Oh, no worries there. As a killer I hate DC'ers.

Besides, I came from games like WoW and Overwatch, where disconnecting from dungeons, raids, or matches actually invoked a time out or a ban. DC'ing isn't in my play style.

  • @Mochan Well, then at the end of the day, it's up to BHVR to code so it can't be used.

And it can be done. Overwatch was actually way too bright once all the particle effects are going off in a team fight. I wanted to test GeForce Experience by darkening the game somewhat. And although it pops up on the screen when Overwatch loads in, GeForce Experience is inaccessible once inside Overwatch.

Obviously Blizzard coded something so such graphics cards programs can't be used. So, it can be done.

Which is their right. But if DbD goes back to giving me headaches due to my eyes, I'll just have to leave. I'm just one cog in the consumer gears, so not like it matters in the end.

  • @altruistic I have such limited play time due to my career, and that play time is divided between a couple of games, that I doubt I will ever see Rank 1. Due to rank resets and the fact that I can't play regularly, I think the highest I ever got on Killer side was Rank 12, and that happened during one of the extended free weekends when we had a bunch of new players trying out the game and I shot-up from Rank 19 to Rank 12 after being away for a couple months.

I just play for a little fun and the BP.

I started messing around in F13 again and get Counselor a lot over there, so figured I'd also give survivor a whirl over here.

  • @Mochan said:

It's called cheating actually. Using 3rd party programs to gain an advantage in the game. Worse are the players who edit the game textures and other graphical settings to make everything look simple, so everything sticks out like a sore thumb.

@Mochan Actually, it isn't. A couple months ago several of us asked @Peanits about it in a thread. EAC doesn't flag Nvidia GeForce Experience, which came with my graphics card. It's fair game.

And I use a pre-loaded brighter setting to avoid severe headaches from eye-strain, which this game caused before I upgraded my graphics card for other reasons and found that it came with GeForce Experience.

I'll never understand how people believe Overwatch is balanced for high level play, I stopped playing that game because of how Blizzard flat refused to balance the game for people that knew how to play it.

In its entire existance, Bastion and Mei have never been anything but a joke to people that can aim because if Blizz made them even remotely competitively viable they knew bad players would throw a ######### fit. They are so lazy with balancing changes its outrageous, instead of buffing characters to actually work as a counter to team strategies consisting of stacking heros they threw up their hands in defeat and flat out removed the ability to even have more than one of the same character on a team. A core part of their game they had hyped up. A joke of a game that centers their balance changes more on community outcry than healthy gameplay, the TF2 pro scene that plays nothing like the game it comes from and is developed entirely by its own community is miles better than whatever crap Blizzard's dedicated paid teams spew out.

@PeepingPeacock I agree with what you said. What I referred to is that fact that over the past year, the OWL players (and the League executives themselves) have had way too much influence on "hero balance" for the game.

Let's look at the last Sombra nerfs. She was buffed, for all of two days, until OWL players threw a hissy fit about her. She was nerfed within 72 hours without even a test on the nerfs, first.

OWL viewership was declining with GOATS. It didn't take a genius to see that after being unable to nerf enough to force GOATS out of the Meta, that the 2-2-2 RoleQ was implemented purely as a method to save OWL viewership. Not to mention, a lot of OWL players who were DPS mains and sick of being forced into Tank or Support for GOATS were very vocal about wanting a forced 2-2-2 composition.

Overwatch has been run and changed as needed purely for OWL viewership for too long now.

  • @Mochan I am so going to be flamed for this one, but the fact that the devs here balance around where most players seem to hover, as opposed to the high ranks, is why I've stuck around with the game.

That was the thing I got sick and tired of in Overwatch and other esports games. I'm almost 47 years old, and I'm not going to ever climb in those games to be where high ranked players, half my age, with better hand-eye reflexes are at. The balancing around them just makes the game unenjoyable for me and the wife.

So, I finally left and took my money with me. And I hope it works out for them. Blizzard has never had a game last long as a real esport outside of SC2. And they've been chasing that rabbit for far too many years now, to the point that after 25 years playing their titles in my rotation, I don't find any of their titles enjoyable anymore so uninstalled all titles and the Bnet launcher.

I'm glad Behavior isn't treating DbD as a competitive game or an esport.

I am, I do, and I've engaged the colorblind option o ly for anti cheat to detect it as a 3rd party software affecting the game and kick me out. I turned it off and no problem. Weird, considering others have had split results with it as well.

@Warlock_2020 Hmmm. I have Nvidia's GeForce Experience enabled and used the settings to brighten the game to be easier on my eyes. And EAC has yet to flag anything I did.

@Peasant You beat me to it.

Mathieu said, long ago, it was done to make people stay in the game.

If you were just hanging there without having to do so, you'd just browse your phone until you'd get unhooked or die.

Not the perfect quote, but this is pretty accurate.

@Boss He's also the guy that infamously suggested players go play an entirely different game rather that professionally address the issue at hand at the time.

    So . . . .

Before I knew his work history, I heard that and immediately thought that it was a very Activision-Blizzard or EA thing to say. Well, the EA part fit.

  • If I play DbD Tuesday, probably the Pig since I'm trying to learn her.

I'm not rushing to get this DLC since I'm not a fan of the show and can wait. Same issue I had with Ghostface. Still haven't bought him yet. Ghostface and Stranger Things will be the only two DLCs that I don't own of the collection, due to not being interested in the licensed material.

As for Perks, I have so many teachables still to unlock and get on main characters for both Killer and Survivor, that even the new Perks aren't a selling point for me right now.

  • Hell, I have it even brighter through my Nvidia features.

    Why? It's called bad eyes.

But it does make me chuckle when survivors do offerings to thicken the mists. Yeah, that doesn't make a difference for me. ๐Ÿ˜‚

  • Let's stop the communism talk, please. It's against the forum rules that they just asked us all to read the other day via the banner.

It's going to get this poor guy's thread closed.

  • @Mister_xD said:

eh, i wasnt saving up for him in the first place.

too busy getting my other killers maxed out atm xD

    @Mister_xD Same here.

  • Not at all. Not one bit. I could not possibly care any less about my rank.

I play DbD just for the slasher killer or slasher victim fandom that I've had since first seeing the original John Carpenter's Halloween in theaters at six years old back in 1978.

  • @Atrushan88 That's just players playing one of the troll builds. Every game has them. Hell, in Overwatch we had teams playing the troll (aka cheese) comps. You have it now thanks to RoleQ with the cheesy Bunker Comp that involves an Orisa, Rein, Bastion, Mercy, and Baptiste.

    It's gamer trollimg, that's all.

  • @Atrushan88 I don't think that's true. Outside of unhooking and healing, what else do Survivors have to do?

Find the totems? Ruin drops in less than a minute at high ranks. So, that takes zero time.

Search chests? Not really worth it at high ranks, they already have a ton of bloodweb items.

All they have to do is Gens, opens gates, escape. It isn't a gen-rush, it's having nothing else to bloody well do.

It's why, despite all of its myriad flaws, Friday the 13th at least handled that aspect better. Counselors had to get gas, batteries, and keys. Had to repair the cars or boats. Or had to repair the phone's power box and call the police. While managing their Fear Level so Jason had less chance to 'Sense" them.

They had different objectives to complete. And for the most part, the pieces spawned randomly.

  • @BackByDaylight said:

You're the second shape I know who said maybe they should do just orginals, and I think you only want DBD to be about Michael but you have to share that Spotlight buddy with somebody ๐Ÿ˜œ

@BackByDaylight If you were referring to me for that, Myers is my avatar because he was the first slasher movie I ever saw in theaters with my parents back in 1978 when I was around six years old. That movie made me a slasher horror fan.

I love Myers, Freddy, Jason, Candy Man, Texas Chainsaw, My Bloody Valentine, Wrong Turn, Hills have Eyes, The Collector, Hatchet, and many, many, many others.

I also write horror as part of my career as an author. I don't have a hardcore fandom for any one killer. I know, read or watch, and love them all.

I want a Phantasm chapter that brings The Tall Man and Reggie Bannister to DbD. That franchise holds a special place in my heart due to my (now) late father. But after Ash, Ghostface, and Stranger Things all in a row, I would prefer they go back to a few original Killers and Survivors for a chapter or two.

There are two chapters left in the roadmap after Stranger Things. Either make them originals and do more licenses on the next roadmap, or just get the licenses out of their system now, and let the next roadmap be all originals.

  • @BackByDaylight Unless something has changed in a mere two months since the last interview, and my Google searching hasn't turned up anything, Jason Never Dies is not coming out. Not even close. It was just a spec script written by the guy that wrote Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives that is getting a lot of press lately.

But it isn't in production at all. It was merely a spec script, meaning a script written in the hopes that the studio would one day want to buy it.

Because I feel like BHVR is trying like hell to emulate EA, lately.

  • @Kralle said:

For the bloodpoints they could at least give survivors some points in survival category every minute they are still alive. It feels so bad when you are in game that takes very long and you end up dying later so you dont get the 5k bloodpoints.

@Kralle Eaxctly. Something to help with the fact that the Survivors have to otherwise all split points between actions and there are only so many actions to realistically go around unless survivors just want to hand killers free hooks for not doing Gens most of a match.

And I'm saying this as a killer main. If I need to stock up on BP, I'll stay killer and run BBQ. It's easy BP. I won't play survivor for that.

They need to adjust that. Do so, and I'll gladly play more survivor.

  • @AshleyWB I completely understand. I wanted to unlock Ruin, PGTW, Spirit Fury, and some other meta perks. I have limited time to play due to my career, and it got to the point that all I was focusing on was the grind. Who has BBQ at Tier 3? Who also has the chance to generate better BP totals? Et cetera.

I unlocked Ruin a few days ago, then realized that on my limited time, and since I also want to putz around on Survivor, and with monthly rank resets, and considering I also play F13 and Roblox, I was never going to rank up enough where the Meta perks mattered. Highest I would get was likely around Rank 13 or 12, which was my max when there was a free weekend of new players and I had more time to play.

And I was absolutely hating DbD because of that grind. To the point that I almost uninstalled this game the day before I unlocked Ruin this past week.

In the end, I decided to hell with meta perks, to hell with pips, to hell with how many kills I got. I just wanted to chase and slash people. That's fun (hey, don't judge me).

Now DbD is the ultimate casual game for me. Same as playing hard-bots over in F13. Just something to relax and be a Slasher.

If I ever want to go all tryhard again, I'll reinstall Overwatch. By the way, don't hold your breath on that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • @Peasant said:

So, based on the results so far, we've got trouble.

Each lobby has 5 players in it.

There are 4 survivors and 1 killer.

    1/5 is 20%. So for

    M A X I M U M O V E R D R I V E

We'd want the results of 20% killers and 80% survivors.

Instead we got 52.5 Survivors and 47.5 Killers.

This means we only have 66% of the survivors needed and 2.36 times the number of killers needed.

So what this is telling me is that the devs need to make survivor more rewarding and/or interesting. Everything was already saying that already, bit now we have some evidence.

@Peasant I think one of the problems with Survivor attraction is bloodpoints. Yes, Survivors have the same 8k cap as Killer, and raising the cap isn't the answer.

The difference between the two sides is that the Killer is the only person on their side taking action to earn points on the emblems. Meanwhile, survivors are splitting the emblem BP between the four of them. There are only so many generators, chases, unhooks, and healings to go around. I think the points earned per action need to be increased for Survivors.

WGLF also needs a slight rework to become more in-line with how BBQ awards the stacks. Give it more ways to earn the stacks since again, survivors are competing against each other for those same points. And while such a "competition" might fit the theme of the isolation survivor slasher horror, sometimes gameplay needs to ignore thematic license.

  • I voted as Killer.

The only reason I purchased Dead by Daylight was to play Myers, Freddy, and Leatherface, three horror icons I grew-up on as a kid and teenager in the 80s.

Asymmetrical games were never on my radar before those DLCs. I was an MMO player since 1999, then an avid Overwatch player since its launch day in 2016. Those three DLCs are what introduced me to DbD and the asymmetrical video game genre in 2018.

  • @rayoxium Agreed. Delaying them was the right decision.

  • @Aven_Fallen Exactly. And it is 100% marketing. It wasn't a proclamation of gospel. But you wouldn't know it around these forums. ๐Ÿ™„

  • @xllxENIGMAxllx Yep. And just for the forum record, I was agreeing with you. I just spring boarded off your post to explain it further, because this damned topic keeps popping up.

  • @xllxENIGMAxllx That's for the current appeal. If Cunningham loses that, he's likely to appeal to the Supreme Court next. Then there's the wait to see if the SOTUS will even take the case. And if they do, things drag out even longer than that.

Then, be assured, this is just phase one. Victor Miller has commented several times about what the franchise has made and how he saw none of it. If he secures the first film's screenplay's copyright through all the appeals, given that Friday the 13 Part 2 directly began with a continuation of the main girl from the first film, and also introduced adult Jason, Miller is going after Jason Voorhees revenue next.

Thanks to Friday the 13th Part 2, the continuation of the surviving character from the first film and the direct flashbacks to the first film, Cunningham has zero argument that adult Jason isn't connected to the original screenplay and film.

Establishing copyright on the first film is just step one for Miller. The Voorhees money has always been his endgame, but he needs to establish that copyright, first.

That's the goal they set themselves. However, there aren't any contractual obligations forcing them to do so.

@NoShinyPony Plus, it was MandyTalk or Patricia who stated in a thread in the past couple of weeks that while they set Summer as their goal, if they need to be pushed back further, they will be.

  • During the day on PC killer queues have always been a nightmare for me. I usually play at night now and have, at the most, two minute queues.
