The alternative to what we have now doesn't have to be hours long queues. There's this notion that it has to be either the near free-for-all that we currently have, or 17 minute top 500 Overwatch queues. We had a better system when SBMM first launched. The devs just sort of panicked and nerfed the matchmaking to be less strict.
Backfills should obviously happen, otherwise lobbies would break. But there should be logic to backfills and players shouldn't be able to freely and repeatedly back out of lobbies. What's the point of having a matchmaking system at all when you can freely lobby shop with instant queues?
And no, matchmaking parameters should not be expanding to the point that me, an ex-competitive player with 4500 hours is being matched against survivors with 500 hours. That game will be over before they do 2 gens if I'm on Nurse or my other mains. Why give an instant queue to 5 players when none of them will be engaged with the match? What's wrong with a 1 minute queue for a better match?
I'm not proposing infinite queues for perfect matches. I'm saying that instant queues for terrible matches is a waste of everyone's time. We can do better.
Yeah it's the lobby ๐ shopping. And sadly we are doing it to ourselves

This has been asked for many many times before over the years. The answer each time has always been they have no plans to add it.

What do you mean by chosing to limit themselves with a controller? Us consolers have no choice with DBD but to use a controller.

I could see a killer plop their NOED down right next to a hooked surv with this system. Boy that would be fun.

Not really a plugin but with this Keybind you just have to press one button and it will upload your match
https://docs.nightlight.gg/uploading/keybind-uploads-with-sharex/
How TF would the consoles make use of this?
-
It's not the offerings to blame, it's imbalances on the maps themselves that need attention. Ideally the offerings would be preference only and not to gain serious advantages.
Then there's the issue of a couple killer builds that are only usable on particular maps too. None of this is easy to tackle I know, but messing with the offerings boils down to just bandaid fixes.

I just bought Transmission End and man do I want to like this killer but playing with a controller feels awful. It's been 15 games and getting only like 5 hooks and no kills. Why does this keep happening of late? Seems like lot of the killers that are coming out are designed with PC only in mind and console players are just meant to adapt....
Since us console killers are trapped with the dang controller, we need more setting options for them.
The deadzones in the sticks need to be addressed, and the overall sensitivity needs more gradients, ideally for each killer. Input lag is very pronounced as well. And the list goes on.

I have a lot of progress(and dlc) on my xbox account, but my xbox is starting to die pretty badly. I downloaded DBD through the computer xbox app and booted up but even though im on the same account all my progress is gone and it considers it a different account. is there any way i can fix this?
There's no Cross Progression between Xbox and any other platform DBD is on, sadly. Nothing will transfer over, and the PlayStations are in the same boat. Switch was supposed to be out about a year back but ran into problems.
They know it's wanted badly by players, and they say they're working on it. I know such arrangements are not entirely in the devs control, but I personally have given up on it ever happening long ago.

Given that players have done 2v8 number of times on youtube it would be interesting if they attempted two nemesis killers. That way we would know for sure.
They tested an iri add-on spawning in a third zombie while they were developing Nemesis. It tanked game performance so badly they scrapped the idea and changed the add-on.
So assuming they test their stuff on badass PC's, imagine running that on a Switch? Or my ol' venerable Xbox1?

Would be cool if you could have a Nightlight plugin that automatically uploads everything.
That would make me accept stats deriving from there a little more, but I'm pretty sure the various console privacy & uea's would prohibit it.

One of my biggest gripes with using info from Nightlight is the type of players entering in their stuff.
Casual players, who make up the bulk of the playerbase, aren't likely to go there in the first place. Especially console, who are by far the most players. So just veteran serious efficient ("sweats" too) are the ones using it the most. And it's hard not to assume players are just uploading picked trials instead of them all.
Then there's the differences in region. The best example is the usage of Self Care. Long considered a "bad" perk in NA and Europe etc. the players in the asian servers have for years consistently run it and base their playstyle around having it. When the devs do put out stats it always shows Self Care usage way up there, something that will never be reflected on Nightlight.
Now throw in it's in English on top of all that. I know there's nothing else really available to look at for DBD, but this cannot be THE source either. Just because it's all we got doesn't make it that reliable or useful worldwide.

Where is the data on how well solo queue does versus SWF. Does anyone have it?
Many months back they said the escape rates for the majority of solos and SWF were only a few percent apart, something like 3-4% difference. In the high MMR area SWF teams escaped about 15% more often if I'm remembering correctly, however those players up there are a small part of the overall playerbase.

They seem to favor the rng aspects of both scourge hooks and basement spawns too much to force static locations on maps. Monstrous Shrine is the only way right now, but most won't give up a perk slot just for that.

I' ve been playing this game for 5 years now as main killer on PC. Long story short, I can't play anymore on PC, so a few months ago I bought it on Xbox... I've been playing with a controller and 2 things I've noticed:
-1st. Playing with a controller as killer is pretty bad and it feels all time "unfair". Sure, you can play it and even win against SWF sometimes, but its just not feel right for sure. Even more with such greatness level design and fluid movement with killers like Twins or Wesker.
-2nd. We are playing with and against people with Keyboard and mouse. In Xbox there are tons of game k/m compatible.
Why DbD is not compatible ? We are playing using crossplay. In PC you can play with k/m and controller but in console we can't play with k/m. What's the point here?
Matchmaking
I know i'm not as good with a controller but the MM for some reason with an account with devotion 1, is giving me matches against "literally" the same groups of tryharders that I faced on PC (twitch groups with dev36-39)... Getting bullied over and over... I bought Knight yesterday thinking on that "each killer has its own SBMM". Yeah, for sure. First game 3 ttv users prestige 100 t-bagging. More experienced players on coms... Amazing experience...
I wish I could "get gud" playing with a controller. But since the matchmaking is pushing me playing against people with MUCH MUCH but MUCH more level, hours & experience (over and over and over), this experience is not worth my time (never felt something like that playing on PC).
Btw, playing as survivor with controller is pretty decent. But I don't like playing as survivor. So it's the end of the road here for me playing the game. Was a fun trip!
I just wanted to share my feedback before leaving. Have a great day!
They've said many times they have no plans to add it. Alternatively we really really could use more controller options & settings to even up the odds some.
Things like dead-zones in the sticks, horrible input delay, and an unnatural feeling camera turning all add to the frustration of being a console killer.
-
Naw. The basement should be heavily in favor of the killer. There should always be an area that is always high risk for survs to be cought in. It also can make usually very safe central buildings a bit more manageable, like Ormond or Storehouse for example.

Its not blocking chat messages on PC / Steam: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/337146/pc-block-dosent-block-chat-messages#latest
Like I said I cannot speak for Steam or the other platforms. Those of us on Xbox can stop messages, but cannot even use the Anonymous Mode sadly.

It would just be for next gen. Not every update has to be for previous gen because that would be impossible.
DBD is a live service game. They have to support the prior gen machines until Sony and Nintendo and Microsoft each end their support for those consoles, or until the game cannot actually physically function on them any longer.
The vast majority of the playerbase is on console, and something like half of them or so are still on the old machines worldwide. Do you think we can afford to lose that many players?
-
@Nirgendwohin said:
- Where is the block list saved?

The block feature only prevents communication with them, it does not prevent matchmaking with them again.
On Xbox the ban and unban are in the same place I believe. Dunno about the other platforms.

I was playing Huntress during a match and one of the players would continuing flash me with the flashlight. I had a bad feeling at the beginning of the game when I saw the purple flashlight in Cheryl's inventory and I was right. They were a Bully Squad. T-bagging, loops, and flashing me nonstop. Bully Squads aren't gone, they are hiding. Seriously, these toxic players will ruin the game for everyone.
Shouldn't this be on the mobile version forum? The playerbases do not mix.
-
Most players do not have close to every perk available. Just the veterans mostly, and those are usually in the higher MMR area who make up a small portion of the playerbase in general.

My fixes:
1) Survivors share the same bloodweb and the same items/addons
2) Both killers and survivors can purchase the especific addon, item, or offering they want
That solves every issue with the bloodweb
That would lead to an almost endless buying of the strongest add-ons for either role. The rarity of them appearing in the webs is a check against stockpiling the best stuff, and then running those each and every trial.

I think DBD would look really nice on unreal engine 5 and updated skin textures would make the game feel more immersive it currently does.
Is there any such plans for this?

Could a Switch or my ol' venerable Xbox1 even handle such a thing? Most platforms already struggle to run the game well.

I just started learning Unreal (thanks to Unity just destroying itself), but as far as I have seen in the tutorial I posted it should be as simple as having a "sixth player" that act as the recorder of the match by receiving the data from the server. Then you implement the already available and done functions on the engine to get, load and play the file in game and done. They would need to add some code on top of that for additional functionality, but for simple "record to file and be able to rewatch later" it's all.
So, if they really can't do it for code reasons they should have the biggest and messiest spaghetti code in the story of computer programming.
Having that monstrous flaming pile of spaghetti is a common complaint I've seen for years. Apparently it's super unwieldy. Would help explain the enormous drain on resources the game is, and how difficult it has been to thoroughly optimize.

And in another post we had come to the conclusion that it is a lie:
https://docs.unrealengine.com/4.27/en-US/TestingAndOptimization/ReplaySystem/
The engine is not only capable of doing replays, it has a whole system that you only need to implement to save and reproduce the files. It isn't hard to do either, at it's seems:
https://unrealcommunity.wiki/replay-system-tutorial-41kq5b58
So, do you really believe that I can implement a replay system to the game with just a tutorial reading, and a whole developing team with millions of dollars can't figure it out?
I'm not even saying they don't have others reasons for not wanting to doing it, but "We can't because we have to recode the whole game" it's definitely not a valid one.
I admittedly know squat about game developing. But is it possible this engine can do this & allow for that, however the way they built their game around that engine does not?
If that's not the case, then I cannot imagine why they don't add a replay system of some sort.
-
@Batusalen said:
What do you think, extreme lag or try of subtle hacking? Because if you ask me, this explain all those times that makes you wonder "how the survivor get there so fast?". The rest of the chase was fine, as I didn't lost line of sight with him again.
Here are the perks he was using, and of course, when confronting him in the chat he only said he was using "MFT" and that "A 4.4 killer was accusing him of using speed hacks" even if he isn't using anything that could explain that speed boost there when he though I won't see it:
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/7K6K9N94JEE6/lebillspeedhacking.jpg
We need to be able to rewatch the matches at all angles so we can identify this people more easily (apart from all the other advantages a replay mode gives, specially if it is feature packed). That, and better anticheats.
They've said several times that any match replay system would have had to been originally coded back in 2016. It's too late now, they'd have to recode the game from scratch to add it, something they've said they have no plans to do.
Maybe in a DBD2?

Maybe block the exit gates as well, that way if I get my last hook I can still get value even if all gens are done. I'm someone who likes to play for hooks and sometimes it's hard to spread hooks and still get value from this perk.
Also, maybe it can show me the gen with the highest progression. It's nice that it stops gens for some time but if survivors end up hiding it out during the duration am I really getting value. If it showed me the highest gen progress, I can get a better idea of searching down where survivors could be hiding around.
How would adding the blocking gates change interact with No Way Out?
-
@Crowman said:
Just work on gens and force the killer to have to do something. The killer is not in any way preventing you from progressing the game so this is not holding the game hostage.
@TheTom20 said:

These are both correct. Do gens, forcing the killer to do something.

Prolly a case of the 3% or so SM players that didn't play her as a 3-genner only seeing their killer being gutted and flayed. I'd say that other 97% made this happen.
Too soon to tell though, we shall see.

I'm pretty sure I'm the most desperate for BHVR to remove lobby dodging. Just so people stopped spamming MuH BaCkFiLl every single thread because that isn't the main issue with matchmaking. It's the matchmaking. One day Beatricks, one day.
When asked if we favor queue times or quality matchmaking, this community overwhelmingly voted for the queue times.
For their MMR system to be fair, it would need several minutes to pair everyone up properly. Definitely more than most seem willing to wait for, and admittedly very frustrating given we cannot even see the MMRs.
But when they tested out the quality matchmaking it led to unfortunate wait times, and the sweats quickly got sick of constantly getting other sweats game after game. Like how it probably should be, but those kinda trials one after the other will burn most out fast.
Despite all that I'd still like them to test no lobbies. Just load directly into a match. Let their matchmaking do it's thing interrupted. See the results after a week or so. It would also have the side effect of killing off that last-second swapping bs survs can do.

Why is lobby dodging still a thing? I can come up with a few almost reasonable reasons to yeet on out, but for the most part it all boils down to wanting easier trials imo.
Some will say they're protesting SWF. Some will say they're protesting other imbalances, real or imagined. Or a cosmetic. Or prestiges. Or items. Or gut feelings. Or tea leaves. Or backfills themselves.
But we know it borks up the matchmaking. And we do it anyway, swearing it all is on the devs.
