...which is only accessible to a fraction of the playerbase, for roughly a week and a half, AND contains stuff that will see changes when it goes to live.
Sad that all of this is absolutely true

I don't know exactly why, but there seems to be a philosophical shift towards putting an obscene amount of random junk
I generally don’t like to be conspiratorial but someone suggested this idea to me a while ago and I honestly think I believe it.
The theory goes that the recent changes in map design philosophy, including:
- Making maps large (e.g. Garden of Joy, Decimated Borgo, Nostromo Wreckage).
- Giving maps colour palettes that allow easy blending in of tracking mechanics (i.e. scratch marks and blood can be hard to see against the orange/brown colour palette of Borgo, and the plants of Toba Landing).
- And adding an obscene amount of clutter (basically every map since the Red Forest rework).
Are intended to be indirect nerfs to Nurse.
On compact maps, with tight generator spreads and few LoS blockers, Nurse is effectively handed a free win. Making maps large, with lots of opportunities for survivors to break LoS gives them a much better chance in chase.
Obviously there’s no real proof for this, but it’s the only logical reason I can think of why they’d keep doing this when everyone clearly hates it.
Maybe indirect nurfs to Blight as well? The clutter messes with him too.

Imagine if somehow both of his zombies get a surv. One tackles and the other starts chewing!! ☠️🍗🍖

You know, in real life Wesker would just instantly kill 90% of the survivors.
Survivors like David and Vitorio would body legion, trickster, and pig.
Deathslingers gun would you know, I'm sure you know.
Twins would be twin...
Survivors wouldn't scream when a killer opened a locker.
Pyramid head, pinhead, dredge, Wesker, etc would laugh at the chunks of wood called pallets
Survivors would climb over the wall.
Come to think of it Chris would body 60% of the killers, did you see his boulder punching? I'm not even sure if Knight could survive his fury.
I'm still wondering how tf any Legion or my beloved Piggy can even lift up Jeff or Jane. 🤪

Apparently, 2 is all the game can manage. Or at least while they're supporting older consoles it is.
The story goes like this:
While developing Nemesis they tried an iri add-on spawning in a third zom zom. It apparently it tanked game performance so badly they scrapped the idea and changed the add-on.
Now assuming they develop using badass PC's I'm much more inclined to lay this one on the game's coding rather than on the capabilities of any of the consoles.

I've always favored adding a totem counter down in the basement, on a wall somewhere. So anyone can dip on down there and see how many are left. But for survs it can be a risk, as the basement should be.
It can be in the image of the DBD logo for instance.

That kind of balance perspective is what leads to blatantly busted perk designs.
Balance should inherently be done with the most efficient/ best players in mind.
A perk balanced in high mmr is a balanced perk for any mmr, due to the nature of trickle down Balance.
It's plain obvious to see that if they buffed a perk like hyperfocus because "low-mid mmr players struggle with their skillchecks" , it would lead to absolutely horrible gen slam matches in the high MMRs because people actually hit their skillchecks.
---
Ironically people call mft balanced because of this exact problem. "Well MFT in low ranks has minimal effect, it's only the good loopers that make it seem busted"
Imo, MFT is long overdue for a ol yeller treatment.
They do not balance that way. They've consistently made changes this way forever. If players actually want their suggestions seriously considered they need to keep the entire playerbase and all platforms in mind. It's how they do things.

Those "disparities" happen because nightlights nature is geared towards mid-high mmr players.
"Official" stats include everybody, even the fresh installs who only have the basegame and perks , so they are forced into using SC , for example.
Nightlight reflects the data from the actually valuable dataset, which is mid-high mmr where people have DLCs and therefore a choice + they know how to actually optimize and play the game efficiently.
I'd argue nightlight is quite honestly better than official just because official includes all the casual / low mmr bloat stats.
The vast majority of the playerbase is in the low to mid MMR area, and that's where they mostly balance for, and what they keep in mind for changes mainly.

Self Care is heavily run in the asian servers and always has been. This is why its usage charts so high, not because it is freely available. Gameplay there is more individual based rather than teamwork based, with SWF less common.
Nightlight lacks a global view of the game.

that perk has one use and its the "problem" with it you mentioned. otherwise whats the point of running it in the first place ?
also i know people who can aim in fps games and tap heads with no aim assist on controllers so i dont think its that bad for console players.
besides i notice alot of killers are trying to counter wiggling effect but counter strafing it but that not how to do it. you need to go with flow of the wiggle and hold forward you will actually reach the hooks faster than before. just a tip
Just a necessary point to mention, im not trying to take away from your opinion. im just sharing what i feel about the perk after 2k hours and mainly playing killer going for 12 hooks with blight. so i did alot of hooking i can tell that much
The problem with this perk on console is the way the sway is felt and your attempts to deal with it. '
Boil Over's effect feels much more pronounced because of the dead zones in the sticks that do not allow you to flow into the sway, which is how PC deals with it easily. Instead of going with the sway, on a controller the input delay more often then not has you go the opposite way, exaggerating the effect.
So you get slowed even more instead of using the sway to actually gain ground. And Entity help you on doorways you likely will come to a stop. And all this is not even counting any micro freezes and/or frame drops making it even worse to try and deal with.
I implore our PC cousins to borrow a friend's PS4 or whatever and controller. Go find out for yourself.

Does this timeframe include the week or so Wesker was shut down? If so it would effect his usage.

It used to work where the traps activated when triggering end game collapse, effectively getting the effect you are describing.
It had to be removed cause it was brutally unfair, the Pig could just open a door/close hatch, then just follow you and there was literally no way you could ever get the trap off without dying to the trap, her hooking you, or EGC killing you.
This is correct. When they added EGC they had to change how the head traps worked. It did kill off an aspect of endgame Piggy, but it was necessary.

Then no information for anyone before the match and case closed. Everyone goes in as it’s expected and we all just play the damn game.
I think skipping the lobbies altogether and loading directly into the match deserves being tested.
It would squash most forms of lobby shopping & dodging, and let their matchmaking system do it's thing properly. As a side effect it would also get rid of that last second swapping bs survs can do too.

Devs, can you please give us an ability to turn off aim assist/aim dressing? I understand it's only used to make hits that actually hit, appear visually more like one would imagine a hit would look like, but it sometimes simply doesn't work as intended and robs you of a hit.
Simply make it a on/off toggle (since I imagine console players would be frustrated as all hell from missed hits without it on)
Oh no I hate the aim dressing as well, and I'm on Xbox. Many many times, especially in tight spaces, a surv wiggling wildly will cause the game to pull me and and my camera hard over. I'll smack the walls, a pallet, a rock, a tree, or thin bloody air instead of the surv.
However without the aim dressing hits can and did back then look ridiculous and quite unbelievable.
Imagine those latency hits through windows that look like bs to the surv but the killer sees them right up the surv's bunghole being commonplace.

I have honestly no idea whats exactly happening as I can just talk about my experience. I started to check on the profiles of the survivors before the match starts a while ago and lately I saw a lot of people being from the same country having a rougly equally amount of hours in dbd. That leads me to think they play together though its no absolute proof.
As every killer has its own mmr score I can tell you that in 6 out of 10 games with blight I had survivors from the same country with summed up 10 k - 12 k hours in dbd. Once even met people with 10 k each. This doesn't happen with clown for example though I have won every game since I got him (maybe because Im simply better at him idk) but it also started to happen with huntress and nurse after a while. I know that your mmr gets higher when winning so it makes sense you get better survivors after time but it didnt felt like a steady rise more like abruptly batteling greek gods after just playing in the backyard. It simply wasnt adding up to me as the skill gap was all of sudden significant.
I do not claim to be a top tier god killer but I know that I am not that bad. Thats why I was getting pretty concerned after loosing 25 games in a row (using the killers I talked about above) but then kept winning when using killers I haven't played that often.
My conclusion was that either it all is a coincidence and I reached my peak at these killers and rng and mmr just gave me bad 2 weeks or these survivors who all were from the same country actually were playing as a team and annihilated me.
That beeing said I do not care loosing a match. Heck I often let the last one go but getting destroyed that hard in a row makes you question your skills. I know it sounds like I'm making a fuzz about not being able to slaughter beginners anymore but I can reassure you, that this is not the case. The survivors I faced in the last 10 day were not just strong, they were simply insane. Absolutely nothing worked and started to question how I ever won a match.
I haven't a clue how to go around seeing people's countries or hours like that. Maybe because I'm on Xbox?
There's also another thing to consider: with many casual players bleeding off into other games there may be (at higher levels) less matchmaking with those casuals. So veterans are getting veterans more often then before maybe?

I’ve had many solid teams ended up giving me a 4k because of altruism, after kicking my butt most of the game. It happens allll the time. From 2-3 hooks in 5 gens to a 4k because they couldn’t let the last man die. XD
Exactly

@Atom7k said:
I get that playing with your friens is super fun.
But on the killers side it quickly can become a nightmare.
Dead by Daylight already has a lot of information for survivors. (HUD) Perks and maps/keys can further enhance this. I think the amount of information a party of 4 talking via discord is way out of the range.
With discord teams perks like for example ko and hex: the third seal become completly useless. Teams can constantly call out where the killer is, which way he is heading, which pallets are dropped, where the generators are located, the position of totems, the position of chests, the position of the basement, invisible killers or calling out which way the killer is facing for the flash light safe. Further hex plaything becomes very useless as the targeted survivor can simply inform the others about the perk and they can look for the totems on different positions of the map at the same time.
Also survivor can callout positions for healing, bodyblocking who is running for the gate, which locker are you hiding in, which generator are you repairing and so on.
This is quite a lot of benefits for a team compared to playing with only 1 friend yet playing alone.
If you play killer in a "fair" (survivor rules) way (which is my intention most of the time) you will get no kill in the entire game with a discord team.
Instead of boosting solo queue players (which already happened when the hud started displaying survivor actions) I think its time to nerf the advantage of a discord team.
I am not entirely sure how to do that as most of my ideas are too drastic but it could start for example with giving them less time on the hook stages. As camping becomes impossible with the upcomming patch this would put more pressure on a team. Generators could need 10 % more time to repair, hooks longer to sabotage etc you get the idea.
Something needs to change however. Having a tactical strike team as killer just adds up frustration as you barely get anything out of the game.
I dont think playing solo queue and playing with 1 friend is anywhat comparable to full prepared strike team with a battle plan made before the game and having all builds in synergy.
I think you're mainly talking about elite veteran surv teams that have been playing together for a long time and are all very good at the game.
The amount of these teams in the game is so very very small compared to the playerbase as a whole. If you are truly getting swat team after swat team comp level nightmare teams then you yourself are in that mystical "high MMR" area, where nothing is really balanced anyway. And if so, you too are in that very very small percentage as well.
There's no way for the game to even know who's on comms or not, and the devs have said that outside the highest levels the surv escape rates weren't all that different from mostly solos overall.
Good game sense and your build matters more than who you're facing. Unless rng completely borks you over, and in that case we all get that from time to time. 🤪

How about share some game footage so people can see if you need tips on how you can improve or if you really are going against SWF teams that just can't be beat no matter how good you play.

Dude…. SWF does not equate to a harder match. That’s the biggest misconception. MOST SWF’s are no better than your average solo Q team, maybe even WORSE because they are more prone to the circle of altruism.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3557235#Comment_3557235
Yes, please do! 🥹
You're completely right about the altruism aspect of SWF groups. They want that 4-man escape. They want to get that save, especially during EGC or against a camper. They will try to prevent a direct tunnel. All of this should be taken advantage of by the killer.
It's how despite being on Red Forrest or in the swamps or whatever as my beloved Piggy I still do unusually well against those groups. I'll sometimes pull them all down into the basement, or intercept the savior and snowball. Understanding and taking advantage of their tactics & tendencies.
-
@Chaogod said:
It's clear the game was not designed with the ability for you to be able to speak to others. If you were then there would be voice coms. So a group with coms is next to impossible to beat for an average player. I think an option to opt out of these groups would be nice. If you have to wait longer to play with your friends then so be it. Even some really good killers can't beat a half way decent SFW group. Its tiring when you are forced to play super sweaty when you play against groups who think they are gonna enter a pro league or something.
They did plan for SWF and KYF modes while first making the game, but couldn't have both ready for launch,. So they focused on KYF and then added SWF shortly after once it was ready. Imo they underestimated the impact of comms and teammate selection on the game, but that's just my take.
As far as opting out of SWF teams, since something like half of all survs are in at least a two-man (threes and fours are wayyyyyyy less common outside of the sweat MMRs) removing them from the pool would absolutely wreak queue times for everyone, and make matchmaking anywhere near fair-ish impossible. The playerbase size just cannot support that.
The overall game experience at all levels of skill is always kept in mind when they consider changes, not just the most efficients.

I used to be a PC Gamer, now a PS5 gamer, but yes mouse and keyboard is far superior for precision compared to controller.
The simple reason is on a mouse you use your proprioception to move your aim. You can accelerate, decelerate and flick your aim to where you think you need to be at any moment, and you are using your spacial awareness to maximum effect.
On a console you have to hold your stick on an axis for a timeframe and let go when you feel the time is up. It's a completely different mechanism and skill, that doesn't afford you the same use of your spacial senses and offer the same flexibility to move as fast as you please to where you want to go.
Spin techs don't really work on PC. I've played console for 500 hrs vs. 10 mins on PC, and the ease at which you can adjust to land a hit on PC is night and day, and this feeds into the advanced techs as well. Console Billy's, Oni's and Blight's simple cannot accelerate their aim any faster than the sensitivity their controller is set to, which makes banking suddenly around corners during their charges is basically impossible.
It is also not as responaive on console cause of dead zones, these ever so slightly slow your inputs down and ofc make it very tough to make micro adjustments to where you're aiming. You have to nudge your aim slightly out of the drad zone and immediately return to centre instead of just stopping. This makes the accuracy affored to ranged killers on PC an easier experience than console as well.
For survivor the differences are less substantial, but for killer it's a huge difference.
That said I love playing on console. The constant high expense, debugging software, and system hardware spec race in PC gaming, combined with the generally more sweaty and hack ridden PC gaming culture has turned me away from it over the years. Also my right hand is bust, so I can't use a mouse anymore... I've had to become left handed for work xD
Awesome description of the differences.
Being a console killer on DBD with a controller simply means you can never play most of them to anywhere near their full potential.
Most techs are out, flicks unheard of, and strafing very difficult. Swinging the camera around feels slow and unnatural.
Trickster is actually unplayable, and Singularity is sadly trying very hard to join that club. The fps means most times Hag cannot teleport and insta-hit, where as on PC it's usually bound to the mouse wheel and is instant. Similar issues with Nurse as well.

Not a viable solution.
There's no Cross Progression nor any real hope of it ever coming. So they'd first have buy a gaming PC capable of running DBD well. Then rebuy the game, rebuy the DLC's, and rebuy any wanted cosmetics (and kiss any not in the store goodbye). Then the best part: regrind all perks and levels from scratch. Who with thousands of hours and whatever monies already into this game are willing to do all that? I won't.
The response cannot ever be "ha ha you're on console" and the like. It's totally reasonable to ask for things like this, especially given the disparity of so many killers with a controller, and the poop options they still have.
The choice of platform should not effect gameplay as widely and wildly as is the case with DBD. Nor should it be casually dismissed or trashed on.

I wish M&K support was added for console players. He is so much more fun on m&k… which is probably the case for the entire killer roster.
I would agree his addons need work. Alch ring + c33 essentially makes me unbeatable in pub matches. Less experienced players won’t get the same value, but these addons turn good blights into an unstoppable killer to your average team.
I would also agree with you on that last bit. You cannot go after his techs until collision is fixed. BUT as history shows, tweaking collision has always messed things up… creating new techs or bugs.
I get the feeling devotees of Blight are desperately afraid any changes made could sent him down the Billy path or worse, and that's not good for anyone honestly.

We shouldn’t advocate for anything in the game to be “nuked”. What happened to billy was absolutely disgraceful and should never happen again.
This i definitely agree with.
Old Billy was so fun to verse and play as. He truly was a balanced healthy killer, pretty much universally loved. All he needed was the engravings better death with.
As far as Blight is concerned, it's hard to be unbiased because I'm forced to run him with a controller. Against him I for some reason usually did well, but playing as him I felt so limited.
What really needs to happen is tweak several add-ons and fix the dozens of collision issues first, leaving his base as is. If all that actually happens, then let's talk about techs.

will there ever be a restriction on vpn usage to change servers? i understand that there are legitimate reasons that players vpn. but, in many cases some players (mainly killers) will play on a server outside of their region in order to have an advantage against those playing in their intended server. if you've played this game long enough you will run into those kinds of killers that seemingly have a steady 600ms and end up getting some of the most egregious hits that youll ever experience in a video game. needless to say this feels very unfair and unfun for the receiving end. if its not possible to limit vpn or switching servers, is an indicator of killer ping in the lobby possible? in the same way survivors can see a red bar next to their teammate's names.
There used to be a ping indicator for killers a few years back. I've never understood why it was removed. Maybe to curb lobby dodging? Which admittedly is a huge problem then and now.
As far as the npns, I don't see how they could know of one is being used.

i mean yeah, but camping or tunnelling wouldn't be the best advice. idk the proper answer here either, play non-m1 killers i guess. with mft still in game m1s can't do much against good survivors especially on certain good maps.
With only five hits MFT wasn't likely a factor in this particular trial, but without seeing footage that's only a guess on my part.
Wraith's cloaked speed usually allows lots of quick & easy first hits, pathing denial, and bodyblocks of pallets and vaults. He is one of the better jugglers of survs when played to his strengths.
And as others have pointed out, several of his add-ons are good for aura reading. This frees up perk slots on him for chase, or slowdown if they prefer.
All of this also leads me more towards skill & experience issues more than what the survs brought or did. Beyond saying that we'd need to see this match to offer more useful advice.

How is it not limiting? Whether you use a console or not is irrelevant. You're in fact limited by using a controller.
Ahhh I thought you were talking about the consoles themselves.
I do wish they'd either add M&K support or provide way more setting options for the controllers. Preferably both, but for like six years it's been neither. Playing as a suve it's ok, but so many killers cannot be played anywhere near their full potential with a controller.
If you're on PC I'd recommend borrowing a friend's PS4 or whatever and try some of the killers out. See what it's like for us console killers! 😕
