Even if the devs lost their minds and wanted to do something about comms, what exactly could they do?

The consoles have built in chat, which it's separate from whatever game is being played, so they wouldn't know it's being used in the first place. Plus they insist any game they accept cannot mess with comms in any way. And that's more than 70% of the global playerbase right there.

As for PC, what could they do? Ban Discord? Force installing apps and/or scanning everyone's machines?

Ban SWF entirely? That's one of those things that would actually kill their game off. Around half of all survs overall are in some form of SWF, the vast majority in duos.

    None of this is enforceable.

The communication wheel finally coming to DBD (it's been 10 years, and there was already something similar in the dead mobile version) is great news for solo survivor players, including myself. All of these efforts have been made in order to put SWFs and solo survivors on a similar level to make the game easier to balance. However, the main thing that makes SWFs so much more powerful in the first place is voice chat (usually Discord). The simplest solution would be to simply add voice chat to the game. In every other PvP game there are both the options of voice lines / communication wheels alongside the option to use an in-game voice chat.

I know that a lot of people would be concerned with toxicity, but no matter the PvP game I've played there has always been toxicity yet there is voice chat anyway exactly to balance people playing with friends vs alone. In addition, plenty of toxicity still just ends up happening in end game chat or even in game with sandbagging and body blocking anyway.

What are your reasons for or against voice chat in DBD? Would you rather it be proximity chat? In which case, would you want killers and survivors to hear each other? What do you think would be needed in order to make voice chat work in DBD, or do you think it doesn't work at all?

I've always believed that the true power of SWF has never been comms directly, but being able to filter out much of the randomness that comes with solos.

You know if they're doing a daily or challenge etc. You know that they'll come back for you, and try very hard not to let you get to second stage. Over time you learn their strengths and weaknesses and tendencies. Solo queue cannot fully replicate all that, even with comms imo.

Something like half of all survs are in some form of SWF, mostly duos. That other half goes into trials with a different mindset than groups do, probably best described as a more "lone wolf" mentality.

This is best illustrated in the differences between the NA/EU servers and those in Asia. It is way more common (especially in NA) to be on comms and in a SWF than it is in the Asia servers, and how they play and what they run reflect this.

Whenever the devs put out global perk usage stats, Self Care is and always has been among the top used overall. Dismissed as a "bad perk" in NA and EU it remains a staple of Asian server builds, due to those players intending to be self-reliant at all times. Just one example.

  • @Mysore said:

When players click “Play,” they should be taken directly to the match loading screen instead of going to the 1-minute lobby. This lobby is a major problem because it completely disrupts MMR and the outcome of the match. This lobby only serves as a place for survivors to judge each other’s skins, playtime, and characters—and then leave the lobby. It creates an endless cycle where survivors avoid playing with certain other survivors, and killers avoid playing with certain survivors, instead searching for SOLOQ lobbies or lobbies with bad players—or, most commonly: killers look at the profiles of the four survivors and search for the weak link—the one with the fewest hours played, preferably Sable or Feng Min—to farm the entire match and secure an easy victory on top of that. Removing the lobby would solve all these problems and put an end to the “lobby simulator.”

I'd like to see tested out a locked lobby, where their matchmaking system does it's thing and a short countdown begins. The killer can view items and adjust builds as they wish, but that's it. No one can sniff through profiles or dip. I want to see the effect on match quality of such lobbies over time.

The only argument against this I've seen that holds any weight with me is the issue of known hackers/cheaters. However most of the playerbase cannot even check for that anyway. Hopefully the upcoming anti-cheat changes help with this.

I think what you need to do is separate out MMR and Matchmaking - both of those things are not the same.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/HK2003M4FQ8O/image.png

These things are examples of what is covered with Matchmaking - except perhaps varying levels of sweatiness which falls into a different category on its own tbf.

With kills and escapes, only those were the outcome for the current MMR which was missing a massive part of the game, hence we looked at the system overall and looked at what were the important factors in the game.

The point of it keeping hidden is ultimately the number is meaningless to the vast majority of players, who play the game casually and do not care if they're high MMR or medium MMR (there's only a very small portion of players in that high mmr bracket after all). We don't want players to only focus on MMR and play in a way to maximise it, as its a number that's used for matchmaking only.

Are there any plans to look at the lobby itself, in particular dodging and shopping around? Imo that too need to be addressed at the same time, as it too often leads to the rough backfills that causes lots of problems.

  • As we learn with each event (especially 2v8) the game simply doesn't have the overall playerbase size to support separate queues very long.

Something over two years back they made the MMR much more strict. Not only did everyone's queue times soar, in particular the higher MMR matches, but many players experienced burnout with the increased stress of the trials. Turns out the sweats don't actually like going up against the sweats back to back to back. 🤔 After maybe two weeks they reverted everything.

Also, what would prevent those sweats from just dipping into the casual area intending to stomp and pillage anyway?

  • @Your_Dad_Playing_DbD said:

The best way to minimize lobby dodging is to finally do something about the non-functional matchmaking system. As a multiple thousand hour players I’m not going to stick around in a solo queue lobby when I see my teammates have low double digit hours, which happens all the time. BHVR have refused to address this glaring problem for years.

You're likely added to those libbies because someone else dodged them already. Once players are waiting for too long the range widens until it just grabs the next available person.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/471218/lobby-dodging-making-que-times-worse

The last-second leaving the lobby also happens when a player has a connection issue. It only shows up when the timer goes to zero for the other players, I think because the connection type changes at that point. Players from Russia experience this issue often.

If true this might explain alot

As a veteran ow player if you're going throught with this system you should take a lot of inspiration from how the communication wheel works in that game, where it doesn't interrupt your movement and you use the mouse pointer to select your message, i would love to have something i'm familiar with in DBD c:

Also i think the same thing should be done with the information screen (TAB and F1 menu) where you just hold the button to make it appear and it doesn't interrupt your gameplay.

Wouldn't that arrangement be super clucky with a controller?

I know the PlayStation policy regarding trophies is that they really truly discourage adjusting trophy difficulty because it "undermines the integrity of the system." However, the devs are free to adjust it as they see fit. Sony really stresses that, where possible, a trophy should not be made easier or harder. Not sure about Microsoft's policy on Achievements, but they seem more flexible.

Nintendo straight up says absolutely not, unless it becomes actually physically unable to be completed. Microsoft is similar but somewhat more reasonable.

  • I believe they stated years back when Chucky was first introduced that his base speed is due to his short statute and slightly better turning when looping.

A solution for badham actually already exists, its called Badham Preschool III. 3 was MUCH MUCH more balanced than 1.

since you already have the map completed, why not just retire badham 1 like yous did the other 4 and reinstate badham 3? its quiet literally a reworked badham already there. just switch the map weights.

i GUARANTEE if yous replace badham 1 with 3, you will see badhams kill/escape rate balance out inline with the others immediately.

(Also, Badham preschool V is not too bad either, but 3 is better.)

Badham 1 is literally the 2nd worst one (Badham 4 was the worst for killer)

    just. replace. 1. with. 3.

I always assumed they picked the variation that was closest to their 60% goal when looking at their numbers.

Have they ever stated why they went with III?

  • @eggzystill said:

The 'Taking One For The Team' achievement is outdated and has to be completed way too many times to get it. Taking hits for a survivor recently off hook doesn't make much sense due to the endurance and haste status effect being given to the recently unhooked survivor. Taking hit for them promotes selling the game to gain this achievement and also doing it 250 times is way too excessive. The achievement should either be reduced from 250 to something somewhat reasonable like 100 or it should be changed altogether to be concurrent with updated themes of Dead By Daylight.

I don't disagree with you, however they cannot change Achievements or Trophies unless they cannot physically be done anymore. For example years back changes to keys and the hatch forced a couple of Achievements to be changed because they no longer where doable.

Nintendo and Sony and Microsoft all mightily resist any changes to them once released.

I understand what you were saying I'm saying I disagree her chase isn't fine, she's actually quite bad at short range. To even have a chance to hit in loops you literally have to 180 while charging the power so the beam starts behind you which will be very hard on M+K and basically impossible on controller.

Meaning you otherwise have to stay farther back in chase than you would on any other killer or you have to go for the longer range snipes.

It will be interesting to get feedback from those testing this killer with a controller for sure. 🤔🎮

It's not about the Killer having an advantage, it's about the lack of fairness. If Survivors can pick their item then Killers should be able to pick their add-ons. A Med-kit / Beamer / Toolkit is still a useful item regardless of the add-ons it comes with but some Killer add-ons are actively detrimental.

It should be fully random for both sides or you preserve some choice and Survivors get to choose their items and Killers get to choose their add-ons, but it shouldn't be that Survivors get some choice in their build but Killers don't.

That sounds more like an issue with the add-ons themselves. If there are add-ons that are never or hardly ever run at all they should look into that, regardless of the game mode.

  • @GentlemanFridge said:

This is a topic that’s been brought up many, many times.

It’s not really ‘autoaim’, it’s what the devs call ‘Aim Dressing’, which is essentially a mechanic that tries to make hits look cleaner.

Basically, what happens is that when the game registers you’re about to hit a survivor (as in, this is a guarantee), it pulls you towards the survivor just a little bit, so that the hit looks like it actually hit the survivor, and not just the invisible hitbox.

However, almost all of us have experienced this system actively robbing us of hits, sometimes pulling us into collision, sometimes causing an outright miss. The devs said, years ago at thos point, that they’d look into the order of operations, so that the hit-robbing would no longer occur, but iirc they never did.

This has been my experience as well. Over the years I've bent many of my beloved Piggy's blades on walls, trees, rocks, thin air, anything other than a surv.

Seems to happen more frequently in tight spaces, whether I lunge or not, and whenever a survs tries some strange rapid wiggling in my front.

How is lobby dodging is a problem? Most of the time if someone leaves it takes 5-10 seconds to refill the spot and I assume you are talking about people checking the profiles but for that just use anonymous mode

Lobby dodging and shopping around is indeed a problem. As players wait the current system widens it's range until it simply grabs the next available person, especially during off-peak hours. It's this backfilling problem that leads to the gross mismatches so often complained about, and rightly so.

Also those on Xbox cannot even use their Anonymous Mode.

I'm pretty sure the devs at some point said that a replay system wasn't possible, but I'm not really sure why when—you're correct—there's a built in system for that exact thing in the engine they use. Probably more issues because of terrible spaghetti code.

I believe they said years back that a match replay system would have had been originally coded back in 2016, that it's too late now due to the code. If so, even them upgrading engines might not be enough.

  • @MarbleThrone said:

just because this list is big doesn’t mean you shouldn’t provide us with as much of it as you can. It is kind of absurd that you’re not going too, why even announce it at all with a vague list if your not willing to actually be helpful to the community?

I advise anyone right now to not make any purchases for this game until after the 30th because you do not know if you’re hardware will become obsolete. I believe the devs know this but won’t say anything.

Most likely they do not wish to share any extensive but specific lists so the cheating community does not know exactly what's being looked at and work around it accordingly. Same reason they ban in giant waves periodically. That's my guess.

  • @MrMori said:

There is zero good reason why the lobby exists in the first place if this game wants to have an actual functioning MMR based matchmaking system. All the pregame lobby does is encourage lobby dodging which causes backfill which throws the whole MMR system out of the window. Not only is it slower than just sending people straight into a match, it leads to worse match quality as well.

The pregame lobby is such an outdated waste of time feature that only makes the game worse in my opinion. Especially now that you can see ally perks in-game, outside of social stuff which again rarely happens due to crossplay, what's the point? Sure you can chat with teammates before the game, and that's fun sometimes, but for killers literally all you can do is sit and wait for the match to start, adapt your build to whatever people bring, stalk profiles to see if players are SWF or dodge lobby. I don't bother with any of that, I just ready up in every single lobby I enter no matter what because I just want the match to start and wish the stupid lobby wasn't a thing in the first place.

Why not just let matchmaking find 5 players, have them all press an "Accept match" button, and then once all 5 accept, you go straight to loading into the match? We can skip the offering screen too in my opinion. Gameplay offerings are hidden now, and seeing what BP offerings people brought is hardly worth waiting like 10 extra seconds before every match. Is the game even loading stuff for the match during the offering screen? I bet it isn't, which wastes even more time.

But I doubt they'll change it anytime soon. I personally don't get why they don't, it would be such an easy way to massively decrease time between matches and improve matchmaking quality. The only thing is people would have to get used to is that the queue itself would be a tiny bit longer, and that they had to be ready to actually accept a match once they found one. It would be so much better and it's lame that they haven't changed it already.

I too would like to see this tested out, see the effect on matchmaking quality over time.

Killer should be still able to see items, but that's it. No names, profiles, skins, none of it.

  • Xbox players: What's anonymous mode? 🤔

It also drives me nuts when people refuse to bring items. They’re just purposely making the game more difficult for no reason. They’re free to do that if they want, but I’m also free to go find a different teammate who actually cares about helping the team win.

They might be doing challenges where they need to do chests, escape with an item found in-game, etc. Or were sacrificed last trial and neglected to equip another.

4p swf has roughly half as much (old pallet density amount), 3p has about a half the pallet density update, 2p has like 3/4 and full solo queue has the full update. Imo this is the most balanced way to balance swfs and solo queue

And I would love to see their janky code not mess all that up

  • @pidgeon said:

It would be amazing to have a killer who disguises themselves as a survivor! After spending 30 seconds near a survivor, they could transform into the killer and go on a rampage. It would be like an impostor: they could work on or sabotage generators, place traps around the map, and—whenever they healed or unhooked a survivor—they could see the auras of the other survivors. Just a suggestion!

Wouldn't comms automatically defeat any mimic-style killer?

  • As others have mentioned, queue times for everyone everywhere would soar with any kind of killer ban system. Right now every Jason, Nurse, Wesker, and Blight would basically never get a match in an hour's time if we did this. Also whenever a new killer is added (such as Jason) that's at least good and fun they'd be gone too for weeks.

Also the issue of functionality comes up: Survs would have to pick their ban before matchmaking begins, not once in a lobby, as the killer is locked into place first.
