If it'll improve matchmaking we should throw a friggin parade not complain. Heck leave it on for a week if need be, bound to be better.

I've had a match yesterday as Freddy against some really laggy survivors. I've had instances where I would down someone, and 2 seconds later I'd have the pallet drop on my face. Or random pallets just dropping by themselves. It was either lag or the fact that I was playing at 3 AM making me see things...

  • It's still the largest console platform trying to run this game right now. I play it on an Xbox1x, supposedly the strongest of the last gen consoles, and even it cannot digest DBD very well.

I always encourage our PC cousins to play the game a few times on a console, ignoring all the talk, and find out for themselves what it's like.

    Plus ya know, cookies.

You fix it by getting a big-boy console.

JK. Seriously though, I play on PS4 and I haven't encountered this problem, so it might be specific to Switch.

I laughed way too much at this. Sometimes I forget as bad as it can get on our consoles our Switch cousins have had to deal with so much more...

I run on ULTRA settings. Stop making excuses. The game is not that bad.

If you don't think it's so bad, borrow a friend's PS4 or whatever, load up a killer, and head on into Lery's.

I'll have milk and cookies waiting for you in the center room. Oh and 15-20 fps. That's the best part! :)

  • Most agree to help bridge the gap between solo and SWF more info is needed. In-game voice or expanding on emotes is the only way I see of doing it.

The opposition to it points out the abuse it can open up, often from experience from other games. All very possible unfortunately. Avoidable? Prolly not.

But here's the way I see it: can't stop comms; can't remove or split off SWF, won't debuff them either.

Given all this, what else is there to do?

  • @ClownIsUnderrated said:

Not all PC players talk bad about Console people, but there's certain people on PC who act like their platform is the better of the two in terms of "skill". Yes Dead By Daylight came to your platform first, but that doesn't give you any right to talk bad about another platform just cause you embrace an elitist attitude. People who play on console have been through a lot, and yet PC people tend to ignore that. Don't believe me, well I can name quite a list of things.

Horrible optimization - This will always be the biggest issue for console people, the worst fps drop I ever experienced was at least 10 fps with Doctor when the Stranger Things chapter came out. You're literally playing a powerpoint presentation, meanwhile a game like Rocket League runs at an incredible 60 fps on console for PS4. Also the DBD tutorial runs at 60 fps, why can the base game not do that?

Horrible sensitivity - 360's were terrible to hit before the sensitivity increase because you literally couldn't turn your camera fast enough in the direction the survivor was going to hit them. Which lead to a lot of people being insulted for being juked thanks to terrible sensitivity..

Console feedback - This is something I want to point out because it's hard for us console people to give feedback on certain things because we get ignored quite a bit.

Killers being handicapped - Everyone who plays on console knows how awful it feels at times to play Blight, since your turn rate is reduced massively and thus making it harder to do things that PC players can do with Blight. Oni was terrible to play on release for console because you couldn't even turn at all when trying to Demon Dash, thankfully this was addressed and fixed and hopefully something will be done for console Blight's.

Toxicity - PC players can act like they've experienced toxicity worse, but at least you can hide you're little chat box to not see toxic comments. Meanwhile us console people have to go into our privacy settings, and make our messages private and change our friend request settings so we don't have to deal with the endless barrage of toxic comments. Also I generally believe that console toxicity is worse than PC personally.

So yeah if you're gonna insult console people, at least acknowledge the amount of stress we've been through before you insult our platform. At least us console players don't stretch screen our screens out for advantages, at least we don't use Surround Sound to give us easier Spirit matches, at least we don't put macros on our flashlights to annoy people, at least we don't abuse exploits that aren't allowed in game. I know we don't have the resources to do any of this stuff, but I'm just Saiyan. In terms of skill I think we match up with you PC players pretty good, not at Blight but at with other killers and survivor definitely.

    Rant over.

All good stuff mate. Where's that 60fps goal at? If it ain't coming day so.

Why after years does Exposed, Mangled, Exhausted, Bloodlust, Myers tiering up, and dozens of other things drop frames badly?

Why do all the indoor maps still freeze the game and drops fps into the teens? Why does your own menus and bloodwebs freeze the game? Random disconnects? Dying during struggle? List goes in and on.

You love this game. We love this game. Could you love consoles a little more please.

Xbox1, PS4, and our dear Switch cousins we shall be heard!

  • @Lord_Tony said:

Queue times for survivors are 10-50+ minutes long. When killers suspect SWF they back out.

Clearly the issue is SWF because the game was never balanced around with SWF in mind. This shows because no killer actually wants to go against SWF.

So killers suggest remove SWF, nerf SWF or limit SWF to 2 players. The average response from SWF is "we just want to play with our friends" To which I agree, you should be able to play with your friends but not in competitive modes.

If you want to play with your friends that's fine, take it to custom.

Keep SWF out of ranked and give survivors a slight boost in BP for playing competitive now as compensation for the lack of SWF.

Like half of all survs are in at least a two-man SWF too many to separate, and from what I've seen the devs aren't interested in splitting the playerbase in any way.

With the current mmr and rank systems, not to mention overall performance & unbalances, I cannot consider this game as "competitive" at all. Just look at the pages of restrictions those tournaments out there out in place. Says so much about the current state of the game right there.

And custom matches don't give out bloodpoints, so with your change they'd never level their characters up. So they'd lobby dodge until they found their buds like a few years ago, and queue times would worsen even more.

  • @Volvoxt_ops said:

I play on a totally unused client, which is the Xbox App for pc, and in my entire month of experience with the game, I never, ever met a player that wasn't cross-platform (regular Xbox console players also count as cross-platform players)

What's my issue? Well all of the players I queue up with have the globe icon next to their usernames, which signifies they are playing from a different IP, like I said before I never saw anyone without it, it even confused me when I started out and wondered what it meant, back to my issue, it's impossible to identify who is playing from PC and who is playing from console, something that would help me tremendously with the chat system as an example, so I won't end up talking to no one in the lobby or the end-game chat, or even tell how well someone might play in a match depending on the platform they're playing on.

Now this is might be a weird suggestion and obviously would be low priority if it's even taken in consideration, but it would help players like me that still play on PC but not from steam or other extremely popular clients, and small details like this could be game changing. Also, every other game that supports cross-play has custom icons for each app and console types, so I don't get why DBD didn't have this from the start and just uses a globe icon instead of each player's choice of client/console.

I think I can address that last part. I believe the PS and Xbox logos are both tradmarked and to use em they'd have to pay something.

So IGN just gave Dead By Daylight a 9/10 review, personally I would give it a 5.5-6/10 but what do you guys think? Does DBD in it's current state deserve to be rated so high?

"An incredible slasher film simulator, and the best asymmetrical multiplayer game around."

    With their final verdict being:

"Dead by Daylight’s inventive concept for a competitive horror game strikes an incredible balance between two very different styles of play, and makes both compelling. Channeling the slasher movie spirit, each match feels like a mini horror movie on both sides. Whether you’re the efficient and unpredictable killer, or one of the strategically elusive survivors, the thrill of the chase and the ever-present threat that even the best-laid plans can go awry keep Dead by Daylight feeling timely, even after five years of thrill kills."

    https://www.ign.com/articles/dead-by-daylight-review

No way. New player experience is the drizzlin shyts, especially with the current matchmaking and thorough tutorial. The grind is aaaaaarrrrrgggggg. Console frames and support are aaaaarrrrrgggggg. Balance is aaaaarrrrrggggggg. Nope. Nada. Nien.

Coup de Grace, seriously I think its a good way to buff it (increase to 8 from 5 tokens). Fireup can just lower the number from 4% to 3% (increase to 24% from 20%).

Bitter murmur, didnt think about that.

Ruin doesnt affect because I typed "finished Gen only regressed down to 95% and stop"

My kicking finished Gen idea is just to let Killer have something to do in end game rather than camping. 5 Gen done, Gate powered, a survivor on hook? Yes you can either camp that survivor, or go kick some Gens to disable Gates.

Would Rancor prompt again as well? And Poised?

No doubt there's more to consider.

  • @C3Tooth said:

    1. Cut off the Lights pole: cant see them from afar.
    2. Gen covered by other objects: 3-4 survivors cant sit on the same Gen
    3. Allow Killer to kick finished Gen, once per Gen, only regressed at 95% and stop. Or give Killer 3 tokens, kick a finished Gen spend a token.

You might think making gens only repairable from one side is a good thing until you realize your genius team has 3-gen themselves against a fustro-Dr with a terror radius the size of Nevada...

Just generally curious as to who plays DBD competively, and who likes to chill basically. Back when I was a noob I used to be pretty chill with it, but I wanted to aim at becoming better. Once I finally got a little bit better at playing survivor and killer I kinda started taking the game pretty seriously, which in turn kinda lead me to getting tilted a lot and being a tryhard at the game. But ever since I've gotten loads better at both survivor and killer and at not letting my saltiness get the best of me, and realized that playing DBD competively isn't good for your mental health. Which is why I like to run no gen defense/slowdown perks on killers, because running those perks getting very boring after a while. I basically look at all killers, and decide what perks benefit them the most. For example a build I like running on DeathSlinger is Nurses, Monitor, STBFL, and Brutal. I can win with this build on DeathSlinger at times, but will occasionally lose since gen speed and playing a slow killer. But with losing I basically shrug it off because I will accept that I lost, although there is times where the game does mess me over. I don't play to be the best, I just play to have fun. Which will always be the #1 rule of video gaming.

As a solo I give my best, same if I'm teaching newbies in a group but prioritize their survival. In a semi-good group I relax more and fill the needed role whatever it is.

As killer it depends. I get a sense of the team and that determines what I do. If they're coordinated af I do what I can without blatant tunneling but prolly will lose. If they're chiller I go for hooks, and dc's & boops may lead to pleasant farming.

Always I try to keep in mind we all are supposed to be here for fun and bloodpoints, not crippling mental anguish. Playing killer might not leave you time to remember that.

Don't underestimate the value of the occasional farming session. Very much like fishing, it's good for the sole as well as the soul.

  • @Tank said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/232178/unspoken-dbd-rules

The Kobe doesn't mean anything, you're never entitled to an escape or a hook/kill of you're Killer. I will personally give you a small head start either out of amusement or because I'm dumbfounded, but I'm still closing the hatch and killing you if I find it first.

There is only two actual unspoken rules. The first and most important, which is very rarely followed by either side, is that you have to treat the opponent kindly and without feelings of anger or hate. As if you're playing a video game with each other.

And the second is that if you're being picked up as the last Survivor alive and the Killer is not moving at all or if you're body blocked by a Killer with an instant down (Bubba, Angry Oni, etc) and he's not just killing you, then he's (probably) trying to start a very limited conversation or activity with you. At that point if you escape the shoulder and/or do puppy eyes, then he'll likely play with you for a bit and farm some points together. Maybe give you the hatch, but that's an in the moment decision between you two.

This second part absolutely. If I'm soloing and my team gets wreaked with several gens to go and I did decent but am now alone, I will attempt to negotiate.

I don't run if near the killer, and if healthy they nearly always give me a smack. I don't move. Now they will either pop me again, or not move either. If I'm carrying anything it's gently placed down for an offering, and the killer decides what to do.

Now I might go for a short trip to a hook, a longer fieldtrip to the hatch maybe on a shoulder maybe together, or be allowed to open a door and leave.

I give them one bow and yeet on out. This happens many more times than I have a right to even pray for.

You would be surprised what things that are "not allowed" can happen with the right push.

Also, Behaviour owns the game, not MS or Sony. They also own the servers that house the progression data. They can make it happen if they really wanted to.

I thought the saves were still on the machines not in the cloud, a leftover from killer lobby days before the servers came out, and was never patched over? This was the reason given why the syncing DBD to another console took a very long ass time.

Might be remembering it wrong though. I'll look for the links to this...

That sounds like a problem between companies, I'm just here to provide suggestions.

I get that yes. Others here have sugested removing the comms from SWF but it doesn't seem possible. I don't know a thing about Discord, but if it's separate from the game I doubt the devs couldn't touch that either.

After sorting through the ideas around balancing solo play and SWF, getting solo players more info to raise them closer to SWF level then buffing killers to compensate is the sanest approach imo.

On console they can simply disable coms for that mode.

No they can't on Xbox. The comms are entirely separate from any game, and Microsoft won't except a game that disrupts comms. I believe PlayStation is the same.

The devs cannot do anything about comms on console.

  • @Tactrix said:

Most other games have it, it's just splitting it into 2 separate modes. Solo que, and SWF. For those in SWF if they didn't want a full group they would be placed in Flex que where the system would pick an MMR killer accordingly.

Ok since a lot of people are confused as how this would work let me clarify.

These modes would ONLY APPLY TO SURVIVORS. Killer's would not get a say, the system would automatically determine where killers go based on their personal MMR. Furthermore for those people concerned about new survivors, there would be a warning in SWF stating that you will more than likely get higher rank killers. And if they don't like it they could always make a custom game.

One other piece of information, in solo que the chat box would be disabled before the game to prevent people from being able to communicate a discord address.

Is that last paragraph an attempt to disrupt comms? If so how exactly would that work, particularly for console?

Well I would dodge too, but only if I'm on a killer I'm not good with and want to do the daily.

If you check profiles on Steam you can see the friendlist and search for the other survivor names in the lobby. Basically I get information from outside the game, which may give me an advantage. (which is the same what SWF provides)

Naw I play on Xbox, where we have barely heard of Steam

A swf-indicator in the lobby would be a nice start. Checking profiles on steam to see who is playing the game together is already possible. So why not make it avaiable in the lobby?

Or map priority for the killer if he uses a map offering.

Doubt it'll ever happen pre-game as darn near every killer would dodge each lobby, and so would I. Post game I'd be cool with but prolly not that either.

Many killers these days just auto dodge any lobby without a couple of crossplayers in it as well. Dunno about the Steam stuff you mentioned maybe a PC thing.

  • @SilentHillOnDvD said:

People will say that it's a waste of time and that the killer already won at that point making it pointless. If that's the case, why when there's 4 survivors in EGC, they almost always try to get the 4th guy off the hook. They won anyways, but insist on hook trading until they can get a 4man escape. Go play killer and hook a survivor at EGC, I promise you if there's 4 survivors alive they will attempt to get the guy on the hook out as well.

This is particularly true of SWF groups, and only a well hidden NOED seems to stop all four from getting out. If I'm in that group and we cannot find the totem then I'll trade if I haven't been hooked. Most just leave, especially randos.
