  • Reliable tracking perks for killer are always nice imo

Only killers I worry about it being used on is Nurse & Blight

  • Is prove thyself a meta perk? Don't get me wrong it's strong but like I don't see it as often as the usual suspects

  • "Was it really a skilled play to begin with?" a phrase that begins to echo over and over

  • @fulltonon said:

I don't think there is "perfect play" in rock paper scissors though.

Well it's more so that Nurse's power has no counterplay on paper

But when it's being controlled by a human that can make mistakes/be reacted to it's a different story.

  • Nurse has no counterplay if played perfectly

It's just nobody plays her pefectly.

I feel like if Artist truely had no counterplay everyone would be playing her

  • "Who?"

    "Boring anti-loop projectile killer"

    And

    "Yet another tragic female killer"

These are the only 3 nicknames I've seen for Artist.

I think this has a significance. Freddy is extremely boring now, to the point of pursuing his alleged easy strength is simply not worth it.

He is definitely on the "rare" side of the spectrum now. The only people who still remain are the ones who really like the character, often in the experienced side, causing his kill rates to remain in the higher levels.

You're def not wrong he's way rarer than he was a while ago, so I think you have a good point overall

  • @GeneralV said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2819003#Comment_2819003

Imma just say it: the ONLY reason why Freddy's kill rates are high, is because the only people left who still play him are very experienced.

    I don't think that's the reason

In my opinion it's because his kit is incredibly easy to use. Like Bubba - there's still a skill ceiling to it but there's not a lot you can really 'learn' with him. His power is consistant and paired with strong perks it can get results much higher than that of your typical killer like Trapper or Clown.

I think that's also why I find him boring to play, because I feel like once I know how to put snares on loops, sometimes use teleport mid chase then that's it. Peak freddy, nothing to really learn

  • I don't really think we'll see old freddy return, considering the devs seem to work mostly off stats and freddy has had one of the highest kill rates in the game since his rework (consistantly too, he's always up there) plus they seem pretty happy with his current state

despite the fact that 90% of his addons suck and aren't worth using

despite the fact that his power is just, well - boring? I don't mean that in the sense of "oh anti loop = bad" boring, I mean that when I play freddy I don't feel like I'm playing freddy if that makes sense. I'm playing snare long glove man.

The dream world doesn't feel like a dream world, it feels like a filter that's only purpose is hiding the terror radius and saying "hey u are affected by dream snares/pallets now". I'd appreciate current freddy a lot more if the dream world didn't feel like an inconvenience that sometimes nukes ur fps

  • About two

First big one was when Twins came out. Game was in a rough shape and I was very disappointed by Twins (Their execution, not their design or anything like that). About a month or so, started playing when the next midchapter rolled around I think

Latest one has been slightly after artist came out. I'm still playing just not as often as I used to, I think many other people are in this boat as well.

Was getting kinda sick of the same old stuff every game. Both sides. So I just experience less of it

  • @str4wberryp said:

It is the Pig meta, and we have the devs approval like it or not lmao

How's it the pig meta if it's supposedly not consistant and "rare"

And you don't have the devs approval, they just aren't banning people for it

You know what else was in the same boat for a long time? Stretched resolution.

  • If I need to tunnel I just tunnel the survivor who's closest to being dead

That's just the easiest way to go about it I think

I've seen less of the whole PC/Console elitisim thing lately, not sure if everyone else is the same but yeah

Techincally the support staff isn't wrong per-say but at the same time they said the strat 'isn't punishable' so I'm not 100% sure if its counted as being AFK

Survivors weren't cautious enough, pig outplayed them early enough to use gens against them

Like a solid bubba in the basement the killer just needed to chill and wait for the reward.

My survivor approach would have been more reliant on stealth & awareness over meta counters. Would still die if I was caught early, but that'd be on me for failure in chase.

You spawn with a bear trap on your head

There is nothing you can do about it if the pig just happens to block the right box

You can't be cautious or stealthy, as long as the killer has the tape addon you cannot avoid having to deal with it

RNG is literally Pig's entire kit, and SBMM is the biggest joke BHVR made since claiming to not have a bias towards either side

RNG is part of her power, but you know what Pig has to do in most of her games

She has to actually catch survivors and win chases. Something that takes actual skill to do and both sides have a chance to do something about

The tape addon removes this. It's like if one survivor just randomly spawned in the basement hook against bubba. Obviously that's hyperbole but still.

I wish for more Hellraiser content.

  • @CosmicParagon said:

Pig literally has less than a 50% chance of getting a single kill with that strat, and only about 20% chance of getting two kills. Accept that you got cucked by RNG and move on tbh

It doesn't matter how "likely" it is, the fact that a survivor can spawn in a match and due to how the RNG works, has a 0% chance of escaping with nothing to do with how they played/skill level and what have you, that is not okay.

I'd be willing to accept "it's just rng lol" if the developers clearly weren't trying to make the game more "competitive" with things like SBMM

  • Trickster to me is a feast or famine type of killer

When his power shines it shines really bright and when it doesn't you're stuck chasing survivors at 110% for most of the game

His knife count isn't what makes him shine, it's the fact he has an extremely high rate of fire and chews through survivor health states which in todays meta of COH and such is extremely useful

  • @Junylar said:

If you got killed by a beartrap while the Pig was blocking the last box, was it really a skilled play in the first place?

  • I love how grandiose and epic these companies try to make NFTs sound. "NFTs are the future! NFTs puts power in your hands" yadda yadda

The reality of it couldn't be more boring and a waste of money.

At least when you buy a video game you can use it to kill time, all you do buying NFTs is kill both your wallet and the environment

I can see why these companies are doing it though, it's easy $$$. Most companies think consumers are stupid, we've known this for years

I bet the people making bank off of selling edited images of a cartoon monkey threw their morals out the window when they realised how stupid some people are

  • Typically the idea of anyone burning a map offering annoys me because when you know what realm/map you're going to, you have an inherent advantage from the get-go

I said it before but if BHVR really wants to push MMR/SBMM then map offerings need to be looked at because in no 'competitive' game should it be fair for one side to just pick a map that favours them. Most typical MP games have map voting and stuff like that but it wouldn't work for DBD because it's 4 v 1.

  • Was it a skilled play to begin with vs Pretty good job so far

    Battle of the timeless classics

  • I quite like Purple glyphs just because I think the way it just floats around the map leaving ribena every where is really funny

White glyphs are also really fun, if a bit frustrating at times

  • Yeah you did the wrong thing

You should've shook your head first 🙄

I'm well aware what his point is. Are you aware of my point? That at the end of the day, the outcome that you expect makes no sense from an algorithmic perspective. And I'm saying this as a professional in the industry for 20+ years.

If you think it makes sense, then please explain it. As yet, no-one has, and I daresay it's because you cannot explain it, and therein is the problem.

To boil it down into logic terms, he's saying X1. I'm saying X->Y (i.e. X leads to Y) and Y is undesireable. He then clarifies with X2. It's the same thing, X->Y. Y is undesireable, and X leads to Y, so how can you advocate for any flavour of X when it leads to Y which you don't want.

You can step to me with any flavour of X, but if it all leads to Y, and you don't want Y, then it's the same problem which you guys are failing to see (whilst at the same time so sure of yourselves that you see everything clearly despite clearly not being able to understand it).

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2812193#Comment_2812193

If you understood what he said, then it makes sense. His point was that if you are that skilled, you'd be escaping more often and thus your ratings would rise. There's always be anomalous games for whatever reason, but for skilled players that won't buck the trend.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2812288#Comment_2812288

What an insightful observation. Did it take both of your brain cells to work that out?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2812533#Comment_2812533

The devs don't believe it works? Interesting... because the last update from the devs that I recall was that it works exactly as designed. The escape/death ratio is 50/50 which is exactly the outcome the system was designed to produce.

So please enlighten us to how this isn't working when the numbers demonstrate that it very definitely is?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2812554#Comment_2812554

aka "I can't answer your simple question because my own logic makes no sense to me, so I'll look for the first excuse to escape from having to explain myself"

Yup... common trait of the ignorant.

The pips only rank how you did in terms of objectives in the game, and has nothing to do with your correlation with your opponent, hence it makes little sense to use them to determine who your opponent should be. Should a 2-pip vs a killer you were expected to escape from the same as a 2-pip vs a killer you were expected to die to be considered the same?

I completely understood what Patrick said

    I just don't think he's right

  • @Azshhh said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2812132#Comment_2812132

His point is this is a game with multiple metrics besides just killing or surviving, any players that ignore those metrics and do the bare minimum are not skilled compared to other players who do that & MORE to contribute to a successful match. And any ranking system that ignores all other contributing factors and focuses just on the end result is garbage.

The survivor who survives because they hid and maybe did a gen or 2 is not more skilled than the survivor who did gens, cleansed totems, unhooked others and won chases, but died.

And killers who ignore everything & everyone in a match to run down a single survivor or two then stare at them til their dead is not more skilled than a killer actively participating in a match, getting multiple hooks and achieving a nearly comparable result to the former

When I read your post, all I could hear in my mind was the quote from Patrick where he was like

"Man i did 80 gens, did 6 totems, looped the killer for ages but died... wouldn't it be cool to be able to do all that and escape too?" That's not 100% the quote but that's basically the gist and man what a quote

not a great way for him to approach the subject of MMR/SBMM

Oh I agree there is definitely a subtle difference, and if old Freddy were to a return there would have to be some changes made. But seeing a killer with a stealth ability that you can turn on and off at whim just made me think about what could be done with Freddy outside of his terrible rework. One can hope, but sadly that's all we can do.

I've started to understand why ppl want old freddy back

Even now I think back to when I started playing and you'd see a rare freddy and see the random stuff that'd happen like survivors hooking themselves.

I don't hate modern freddy but people are right when they say he has no soul. I hope he gets some changes or smth but I highly doubt BHVR will ever touch him again outside of maybe an addon pass

  • I dunno, there's a big diff between the two

The killer decides when they can enter the 'hitting survivors' mode for lack of a better term/how long they aren't able to hit survivors. Kinda like Wraith decides how and when to uncloak

Old freddy had to track down the survivors, painstakingly drag them into the dream and then hope they didn't wake themselves up immediately and he had to do it for every survivor individually

  • @Tubby_Squirrel said:

Springtrap in DBD is like Steve in Smash.

You might want him. You might not want him. You may actively hope against him...

But you know. You know in your heart that its going to happen. You can try to deny it, or list reasons why it wont happen... but in your heart of hearts you know its only a matter of time. maybe not next update, or even the one after that. But I think its very clearly a 'when' not an 'if' that he is added to the game. Whether you want him or not.

I guess using your smash analogy

    would that make Candyman Waluigi?

  • I see this Nemesis player knows how to win at Hockey

  • @Pukenplag said:

Wait, Franklin's change was a nerf? I'm pretty sure it can be considered a big buff.

They made it so it just drains charges, which you could argue is better but a perk being able to straight up remove an item from play was pretty good. Esp when old keys were a thing.

I think nerf was probably the wrong word, my bad

  • @Crowman said:

She also has an addon that gives everyone video tapes at the start of trail. Which would override a survivor's item if they brought one in if the video tape wasn't it's own slot.

Oh man can you imagine if that's how it worked? That'd be so annoying

    Well it's like

BHVR decides how Franklins works and instead of making special items exempt from Franklins, in a similar vein to how blindness doesn't affect killer power auras, they just decide to design the power around the perk.

It's a little funny come on

  • @Mat_Sella said:

Well the tape also provides a benefit to the killer while its held, unlike Vaccines and The Lament Configuration (unless you consider the barely consistent Chain Hunt on them).

True but it's also the only way to remove being condemned if i'm not mistaken?

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Yeah because if franklins could be used on the tape, it would help the survivor.

I just find it amusing that perks like Franklins kind of dictate how 'items' can be used in conjunction with killer powers

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2810581#Comment_2810581

I understand what you mean but I'm not fully convinced yet. I still think that between "equally skilled" players, huntress offers enough information for both players to be able to make choices that will eventually lead to one having the upper hand on the other.

I don't think this is equally possible with pyramid head, for the speed reason. There are so many nuances at this point that it really becomes subjective, I gave my pov up in my first comment where anti loop essentially means that survivors skill doesn't matter that much, it's more like "does the killer ######### up or not", but others expressed different ideas too (like including clown, doc, Freddy etc in the category, while i wouldn't)

That's a totally respectable opinion to hold!

Like I said I don't find huntress unfair or fun to face, I just find it odd that people often complain about the lose/lose situations from the newer killers while not acknowledging the ones that came before them.

A lot of it is subjective and down to experience of course, face a killer enough times you'll figure out things you can do against em.

  • @egg_ said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2810563#Comment_2810563

Pyramid Head is 4.6 and when holding his power is 4.4, huntress slows down to something like 3.2 when holding the hatchet. That's a huge difference

You have a point, there is a diff in movement speeds when charging their powers which makes a difference but In practice, both killers can wind up and get hits during animation locks at roughly the same time making the slower movement speed not really a big deal since again - animation lock. The survivor can't do anything

Huntress also has windup & cooldown addons to make this even easier, PH only has distance increasing addons.

The movement speed can be a deal breaker in many instances, I'm not saying otherwise.

  • @Cybil said:

Anyone know how much longer until the PTB goes live?

My best guess would be an hour and 30 minutes

They typically put things up at 4 PM my time (which is in an hour and 30 mins)

  • @egg_ said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2810540#Comment_2810540

Huntress has a loud audible queue when she starts her wind up, which takes a lot of time too, and is substantially slowed down while holding the hatchet. If the hatchet misses, the survivors have again plenty of time to move and adjust their positions. On the other hand, if a knife misses, whatever? Trickster is like spamming them non stop

Clown, Freddy, Pinhead, just like Nurse, need to use their power to get a hit, they cannot fake their power. Blight is either an M1 or offers enough information to the survivors for both parties to make a valid choice on how to move. This is why I wouldn't define them anti loopers.

Trapper & Hag are exactly as you put them.

A lot of people talk about killers forcing you into lose/lose situations and Huntress can do that, personally I don't think she's unfair but when people call the other killers who do the same thing unfair it bothers me

Pyramid Head's punishment of the damned charge up/cooldown is almost identical to the huntress hatchet windup yet PH is called 'boring' and 'unfun'. Their projectile basically functions identically in practice.

As for Trickster, i agree the spammability of his power is what makes him shine but he has to land way more hits to do the same amount of damage as a Huntress. An animation lock for Trickster is like 3/4 knives, an animation lock for Huntress is basically guaranteed damage

  • The more I think about it, the more vague it becomes

At first I thought it's a good umbrella term to describe the newer designed killers, the ones who are designed to punish animation locks like windows, dropping pallets and so on. Deathslinger, Pyramid Head, Nemesis, Demogorgon (To a certain extent), Twins (You can't loop victor really).

But then it dawned on me that Huntress has been in the game since early on and her power is basically similar to that of the 'anti-loop' killers. She heavily punishes animation locks but she's not called 'unfair' like some of the others listed above. Perhaps it's because Huntress has to commit to it and can't just spam it for free zoning but at the same time a lot of Huntress players just hold hatchets to achieve the same end. Why do people think Trickster is unfair but not Huntress?

Then you also have movement speed reduction killers - Clown, Freddy & Pinhead. Their powers are techincally 'anti-loop' by design because they hinder survivors, making running tiles harder or forcing pallet drops earlier. You can throw Doctor in here as well, his power doesn't slow you down but it prevents you from doing actions that keep loops going.

Killers like Trapper & Hag can counter loops but their power isn't intentionally designed to counter loops, it's more so that the nature of their power allows them to shut loops down

Then you have Nurse & Blight. I don't really know what to call them. Nurse is techincally unloopable in the traditional sense.

Unfortunately projecting thoughts and preconceptions onto others is one of the things humans do best; all of us do it, to varying degrees.

Yeah true, pattern recognising brain and stuff like that.

Still, to me asking ppl why they hold the dbd opinions they do is worth far more than simply labelling them as X and moving on.

  • Something that bugs me about discussions sometimes is when people make accusations or project things onto you despite it not being true. Like a random example might be if you express an opinion about a certain perk or power and you're hit with things like "yeah but what about other thing?" or "you just think that because your XYZ"

It doesn't happen that often though, for me at least.

  • Hangmans trick & overwhelming presence

I frequently forget these 2 perks exist completely, nevermind that they are teachable perks

I've legitimately had times where I've went "wait, what's doctors third perk? Monitor & Abuse, Overcharge and..." that's how bad it is

  • Agitation

You're probably thinking "bro all that perk does is make you carry faster"

Yeah but it helps keep momentum going, the faster a survivor is hooked the faster you can get back into the game. Plus, it really catches survivors off guard and it's always funny to watch them try to take hits

I love this perk so much but I can't run it every game sadly. It's like shadowborn you get addicted to it

  • Ditch Surveillance, kicking generators without gen regression perks is generally a waste of time

Mindbreaker/Fearmonger would add to the theme of the build stacking status effects; blindness + exhaustion and oblivious if they are injured and on a generator

Blood Echo is also a decent alternative since you'll be using the iri fang to injure people very frequently so I'm sure it'd be easier to get value out of it. You could also run it with fearmonger to keep resetting survivors exhaustion which talking from experience is annoying as hell

  • Remember when RPD was disabled for like a month+

Can we go back to those times?

  • Nope.

The "buff" was pathetic and completely missed why the perk is so useless in the first place

Buckle Up should get a full rework and a new effect because it's so situational and even when it can be used, it's effect is still useless

  • It's not really pointless if I can understand why someone thinks the way that they do about something even if I have a different opinion that doesn't change theirs or vice versa

A lot of people's opinions on this game are based on their experience with it and everyone has a different experience.

1 … 63 64 65 66 67 … 103
