But again. They have a well established history of being completely incompetent with their releases. Most people who complain have 100s/1000s of hours in the game and got more then the $20 value. So now they can just complain about the big dlc/updates releases.

So wait a day or 2, see what happens and go from there.

With the history BHVR has if youre thinking a new update is gonna be peachy keen then you’re in extreme denial and wanting to punish yourself and complain.

Me…. I wait, and if it doesnt look good then i wait a week or 2 to play the game or buy the dlc.

So i go in expecting something to be busted, and im still disappointed but it hurts less lol

It's perfectly reasonable (and even smart) to not be an early adopter, to wait and see how something turns out before you invest. I never, ever preorder games anymore, for example. That ended like 20 years ago.

I don't blame you for saying that if a company has left people feeling burned before, then they should exercise caution. But it's also reasonable to say that no one should HAVE to do that. No one should HAVE to anticipate that the product is going to be a mess. Those people purchased in good faith, it's fair that they should get what they paid for.

  • I think that some people (I'm not specifying anyone here) are getting a little crazy about this, either because they've never experienced it (or maybe HAVE and are just plain sick of it).

Either way, while I understand, I also accept that this is kind of just how the industry is nowadays. We live in the era of hotfixes and the "day 1 patch". It sucks, but it's how things are. I'm not telling anyone to be angry, that's your right, but try to understand that BHVR obviously didn't intend for this and are probably just as upset if not more so because stuff like this DOES reflect on the reliability of the company. This is the worst possible time for a huge mess like this to happen.

I'm just going to keep urging people to try to be patient, not get too pissed off. They're working on this, we all know they are. They're not just relaxing on leather sofas with their feet kicked back on oak desks, counting your money. They're concerned about their image, they're concerned about their bottom line, they're concerned about what's probably an overwhelming amount of anger and bug reports. We do all deserve better than this, but try to understand that whatever happened isn't something that they did on purpose, and if it was something they could have fixed, they probably would have chosen that over this.

A good well thought out post.

    Something i disagree on though.

One thing that playing this game for so long has taught me is ranks are more or less meaningless. A player can be red ranks for a year, not play for 2 months and be green, come back and still be a fantastic player able to loop and destroy lower ranked killers. Its also notoriously easy to rank up in this game. Im green killer ranks at the moment and today alone ive had around 4 teams with at least 3 red ranks on and all played horribly. Checking steam profiles some of them had 100-200 hours on the game. Just because you beat red ranks and lose to yellow doesnt make the game balanced. It "usually" means a good killer has either deranked or returned and remembered how to play.

    Thank you.

To be honest I've never understood the ranking system either. Not the concept of some kind of skill-based matchmaking per se, but the actual 1-20 ranking system. What is the point of it if there are often huge discrepancies between the numbers? And if it resets each month anyway? What purpose does that serve? As you said, the numbers are themselves not a true representation of a player's skill. Someone could get down to red, quit playing for a few months or whatever, then come back as a yellow or brown rank and wipe the floor with everybody. What good is that concept? Does that actually achieve anything other than screwing over players who are genuinely new and inexperienced?

Everyone surprised this chapter is broken just like every big update…. When are you guys gonna get brains?

EVERY BIG UPDATE IS BUSTED. YET YOU STILL PAY AND THEN CRY WANTING COMPENSATION.

How about wait and pay for it when you see it works :)

I get what you're saying but playing devil's advocate, it's perfectly reasonable for people who buy something to expect that it will function properly.

I mean I get it, caveat emptor, but there's nothing especially shady or unscrupulous about buying DLC for an otherwise functional game. It's unreasonable to blame the people who made their purchase for being upset that their purchase has, at the moment, not gotten them what they paid for.

I mean, there still was false advertising involved, as certain players claimed that they were able to purchase parts of the purple-tier sets in stores only for it to be changed later to a locked outfit. People don't appreciate their product being changed after their already made up their mind that they wanted the previous version, unless the new version is an upgrade. Just a minor nitpick though.

For most companies, if they mess up, it's typical to show a sign of goodwill by either giving something complimentary (and don't bring up 300k bloodpoints, that's a joke) such as a gift card/free desert at a restaurant. If you order a cake from a baker and you receive it with half of the thing collapsed on itself, you aren't going to be happy that your choices are either to sit and enjoy your less-than-appetizing cake, or to have to wait for a completely new one. The whole idea is that the company should deliver its product, that mind you people are paying money for, in good condition the first time around. They don't have to give a sign of a good will by providing anything free, but do you think customers are going to respect a company that screws over customers and isn't truly apologetic about it?

To be fair I'm pretty out of the loop on the whole cosmetic thing so I can't really speak for that. I don't know if they blatantly advertised anything that can be proven as having been advertised in bad faith.

Referring to the game's glitches, to be honest, most companies don't go giving out gift cards or anything like that. The SimCity launch in 2013 put this debacle to shame (though it IS sadly similar) and I don't recall anyone being compensated for that. EA lied and manipulated the last couple of Star Wars Battlefront games and I don't think anyone got anything out of that. When Ubisoft released a straight-up unfinished Assassin's Creed game they may have given the players some in-game items or something but I don't think there was anything else. For my own experience, during the years I followed the THQ wrestling games (including the time that I was doing work for them) almost every single release had major day 1 problems and everyone just had to accept sitting and waiting weeks for a patch, often which didn't even fix half the problems (or even introduced new ones). No one got anything.

If - hypothetically speaking - the inability for anyone to play DBD persists for a month or something and enough people get fed up and talk to a lawyer to file a class action suit (which I am NOT suggesting anyone do) then it's possible that down the line maybe something could somehow be proven that DBD was irresponsible or negligent in its handling of the game's DLC release. But even things like that are uncommon. The simple fact is that in the world we live in, the industry being in the condition that it now is, games (or updates) being released that screw things up for a while is pretty much par for the course. It shouldn't be that way, but sadly it is. As angry as some people understandably are about this, there's really nothing Earth-shattering about what's happening with DBD right now. They went to release an update and some DLC, the game's having connection and crashing problems, they're now trying to fix them. Pretty tame by today's standards. Again, I hate it too, but it is what it is.

  • I'll probably get ######### for this but honestly? Largely balanced.

I can only report my own anecdotal experiences, and they are this: As a solo survivor main, I've had good teammates and we all escaped, or at least some of us did. I've also had bad teammates, or good teammates who nonetheless got outplayed like myself. I've switched over to killer and find it much more difficult. In general I think that playing as killer is the harder role. But again, I can only report what I've experienced. And I've experienced every single killer in the game in the hands of someone who knows EXACTLY how to use them and seen myself and my team get absolutely annihilated.

All things considered, despite the fact that some killers feel a little OP or cheap and despite the fact that each side has perks that are as well, I think that the balance in this game is actually pretty even. If I can play for three months (as I have) and beat red ranks but also lose to yellow ranks, what can I say? It all comes down to the player, and the play. As a game like this should.

Yes but on THIS level 2 days after probably the most anticipated dlc in dbd history? This is absolutely unacceptable

Again, don't think I'm not on your side. I'm with you. I didn't buy the DLC (I don't like anyone's perks so I'm just waiting until I have some spare cash for the cosmetics, mainly) but if I had, and I wasn't able to play it (or even the game itself), I'd be very frustrated too. You have every right in the world to be.

I'm just saying that in a situation like this, as bad as it seems, it's normal to take a couple of days or even a week to try to hash things out. I don't think that BHVR expected these issues (and I certainly don't buy anyone's claims that they don't care, they're only in it for the money, etc. That kind of thinking doesn't even make business sense), I think that something serious happened that they didn't anticipate because the game ran absolutely fine during the PTB. Either their servers are being absolutely swamped, or someone may have possibly attacked them, or some other unforeseen error has spiraled into the mess that we now have. No one wanted this for such a major anniversary, least of all them.

But you have to remember, it's not as if the game has destroyed your console or anything like that. It's an online game that's experiencing some online problems. That kind of thing typically isn't compensated unless you ask for a refund and uninstall the DLC that you purchased. I have no doubt that they'll make good on this with something in-game, but that's probably about it.

It sucks. I know. I've been where you are before (multiple times actually). It's never fun, and you're not wrong to be upset. But do try to understand that this isn't a case of them doing something on purpose to screw you over, this is almost surely an unexpected problem and it's in their best interest to sort it out as fast and as best as they can. I don't think you'll have to wait long.

Is it? Me and my friend were testing stuff with Nemesis in custom lobbies and we couldn't even select Thompson House with the map picker, like with RPD that was just disabled.

Really? That's interesting, I wasn't aware of that. This might have taken place after I played on it. I definitely did play on it, I think it was against the Demogorgon. I record all my matches, I might actually be able to isolate what the date was. But yeah, it was definitely only once. That much is for certain. I remember others saying that they played it around that same time so maybe they activated it but then quickly deactivated it again.

  • I'm on the side of the people who have been affected by this but - and I truly mean no disrespect here - I don't think that anyone deserves financial compensation for getting an update to their game that messes it up for a couple of days. It's frustrating, yes, but it will be fixed soon. It's not like anyone was lied to, or the DLC falsely advertised, or BHVR ran over anyone's parents with a tractor.

Glitches happen. Sometimes serious ones. You just have to be patient, it's fair to say that BHVR isn't happy about this either.

  • That booty is more than acceptable to me. :)

That said, her eyes are messed up. I saw someone say that she looks just like Claire from the recent remake but I wouldn't know, I never played that yet. Maybe they messed her up on purpose to match that gorgon that they hired to replace the Jill actress that was actually attractive.

I kid, I kid. New model's fine. I just really miss old Jill. She was my RE main.

  • The new map is a lot of fun, don't let people whine about it being too big and too complicated. It plays with the same action and back and forth as every other map. I played it multiple times during the PTB and really enjoyed it. Hopefully it will be up soon, I'm looking forward to getting back on it as well.

    @YOURFRIEND said:

Also when will Thompson house be reenabled? I'm pretty sure it's not

It is, but something's wrong. I've gotten Coldwind dozens of times - and I mean DOZENS of times - over the last few weeks, as if they jacked up its chance of appearing to show off the new redesign (which they probably did, whatever. It's fine). But out of those, say, 50 times I've gotten Rancid Abattoir and Rotten Fields probably 49 times between them. I saw the Thompson house once. Literally once. So it's enabled, I guess, but their map randomizer really needs some work.

  • The servers may be being attacked or they could just be completely flooded. I'd guess either as a possibility.

  • What did All-Kill bring aside from a moderately decent new survivor?

  • @thenegativone said:

Im getting the same issue now... maybe theyre re enabling the rpd map?

There were issues last night while the map was disabled. It's not the map. The existence of new map files isn't going to cause network and server errors.

  • There are obviously bugs which, I think it's fair to say, the devs did not anticipate.

The chapter itself? Worst ever? Seriously???

  • The PTB was exactly like this. One thread wanted Nemesis nerfed, the next thread wanted him buffed. I just assumed that it was like this every time they released a new killer. This community can't come together on anything, lol.

  • @Hex_Ignored said:

This is BHVR's magnum opus. They finally fixed everything because a game that can't be played can't be broken. Honestly a galaxy brain move on their part

Bugs happen man, this was a major release and I'm sure that their servers are stuffed to the breaking point right now. Give it time.

  • Sadly I think it's just the highly increased amount of players leading to faster matchmaking. I remember things feeling faster when Trickster was released too. I could go from post-match to finding a new lobby within like fifteen seconds. A week ago I was back to waiting minutes, unless it was before mid-afternoon.

  • Yesterday night (late PM, US Central time) I was getting the "No network" and generic server errors, literally any time I tried to invite a friend or even back out and return to the main menu. This was on PC.

Haven't played yet today. Bot matches work just fine.

My vote goes to Saw, because the only other licenses here I personally knew were Stranger Things, L4D, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil (I also known about Halloween and NoES, but I don't count those I never seen a movie in the series before) and there's no way I'll put Stranger Things, L4D, Silent Hill, or Resident Evil in my least favorite license in DBD.

If you meant least favorite DBD License (as in how they are implemented in the game) then by no competition Silent Hill (sets were the worst thing to happen in this game, and Konami is why we have it. Thanks)

Bummer, the first three Saw movies are actually a really good, very interesting trilogy. They're not really horror so much as thrillers to me. Nothing scary about them, just a cool story with some great twists and imaginative kills.

    @WexlerWendigo said:

I haven’t seen Ash outside of DBD, so I won’t include him. My least favourite license of DBD is Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I am a huge horror fan and absolutely despise almost every aspect of that movie.

    How about everyone else?

Really?? To each their own, I find the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) to be one of the most effective horror movies of all time. The last ten minutes of that movie are a marathon, and the final shot, which I will not give away, is just a masterpiece. So many emotions, such a roller coaster, that beautiful dusky shot, and then BOOM - cut to credits, nightmare is over.

My least favorite license is A Nightmare on Elm Street. Not because DBD did anything wrong in acquiring it, but because WB is so dead-set on shoving the universally despised remake Freddy down everybody's throats. I don't care how many times I see Jackie Earl Haley as Freddy, I don't care how good a job he did. He isn't Freddy. He doesn't look like Freddy. He looks like someone wearing a cheesy flea market "KNIFE FINGER MAN" knockoff Freddy costume purchased from a grocery store. Robert Englund is Freddy, and it's not just fealty to the actor. It's the fact that...well, Robert Englund is Freddy.

It doesn't help that they also ran with making Freddy's levels take place at "Badham", wherever the hell that is. Not even Springwood (which itself is stupid, as the first movie clearly took place in California and NOT Ohio). What's with the level design? Why is the preschool a single room the size of a jail cell surrounded by what appear to a handful of closets? Why was this design replicated four more times for a total of five maps? (Freddy feels SOOOOO much more natural and exciting to face on Midwich.) Why is Freddy so ######### tedious to face? Why is he able to hurt me when I'm not asleep? Isn't that completely against the very concept of the character? Why are his powers so simplistic and awkward? Why does the pack come with a monster that was accidentally listed as a survivor?

He and the Trickster are the only killers I haven't bought, and I LOVE 4 or 5 of the REAL Elm Street films. This reimagined crap, on the other hand, is for the birds.

    • Float or glide
    • Semi-transparent
    • No angry expressions, just sad / empty ones (I know she's all about vengeance but she's a spirit, not a poltergeist, spirits are often considered woeful and lost as opposed to angry).
    • Take away the screechy "GRAH!" and other humanlike utterances. It makes her seem more monstrous than otherworldly. Her high-pitched sighing, which you hear on the menu screen, is perfect and in my opinion the only noise she should make.

Other than that I think she's quite well done.

  • I think that, if it's done with the deliberate attempt to exploit less-experienced killers (which of course there's no way to verify) then it's lazy, cheap, and actually kind of selfish. I'm sure that the less-experienced killer has a crummy time against a team that's leveraged their collective ranks against him or her.

Bullying though? No, I can't quite see it as that. Just people taking advantage of a way to get easier wins. Which, again, I find lazy and cheap.

Everyone just want maps with a weird building in the middle and a few trees around. If it deviates from that the map is trash.

I've noticed. Whenever someone says that an indoor map is "bad" or "terribly designed" or "doesn't fit DBD" (the last of which is a pretty damn stupid argument. There are no interior locations in a fantasy realm where murderers keep killing innocent victims in perpetuity? Oh, okay. Guess I didn't read the rulebook) the only thing they ever say as "evidence" to back up their claim amounts to personal preference and nothing more. "The map is too big". "The map is too confusing". "The map is dull". "The map is boring". "There are too many pallets". "Killer XYZ isn't as good on that map". I've asked, and am still waiting, for someone to give me a detailed account as to all the ways that any given map causes actual gameplay interference, actually messes things up like the Twins being able to bodyblock (a removal that the killer mains complained about), preventing someone from being able to reach a generator, glitches like clipping errors or characters being able to get onto unreachable objects, etc.

Nope. None of that. Ever. It's just "It's bad because it doesn't lend itself to this playstyle or that killer as much as some of the other maps do". In other words, nothing but pure, unbridled opinion based on nothing more than people wanting more of an advantage and not getting one. Then they scoff when I say that there are 30 maps in the game that are NOT indoors. "So what? A bad map is a bad map". Here's what: Just because you hate a map doesn't mean that it's objectively poorly designed, and just because you don't like playing on it doesn't mean that everyone else has to. Finally, just because you don't like it doesn't mean that you don't have plenty of other maps, some of which OTHER people can't stand, to balm your pain and give you plenty of opportunities for matches that DO suit your preferences.

I learned to stop thinking that other people shouldn't get to enjoy what I don't like when I was like seven years old. I can't explain why so many other people fail to understand the concept.

    @FrndlyChnswSalzmn said:

Yeah, I like the map. But it's probably been whined out of existence along with this glitch. Oh well; can't have nice things in DbD :(

People have definitely been exploiting the opportunity, placing all the blame on the map itself (which worked perfectly fine in the PTB) as well as trying to leverage it into excuses for removing all indoor maps altogether. I don't think that most of them are actually, SERIOUSLY trying to achieve this, but several people have still said as much. It's annoying. I want this new map and I don't give a ######### whether other people like it or not. This game has plenty of room for all kinds of different maps. This one's unique, it's never been done before on this scale. I like it, and I want it kept in. The other people will have to live with it just like I have to live with two dozen maps that are fields dotted with trees.

True, but it doesn't make them enjoyable to play on. I've only played on the new map once this morning, before they shut it down, and while it looks good, I didn't enjoy it. It's a labyrinth. I honestly feel it should have been split in two.

But while it may not be enjoyable to YOU, it is enjoyable to someone else. I don't want the map split. I love it exactly how it is. I love the size, I love that it's labyrinthine. That may frustrate some people, but there's a good chance that they love some maps that frustrate ME. And that's okay. This game has room enough for different maps that appeal to different people.

  • @bowo said:

this is ridiculous. some people might want to play with x perk on y killer/survivor. you'll have to grind for that. in a game you paid for. judging by this post, it seems your only goal is winning games. i enjoy trying wacky builds. obviously you aren't forced to grind to play the game, but that's not what people are complaining about

If someone considers the game a "grind" because they're in a rush to play with a certain perk then they're the ones responsible for making the game a grind to begin with.

Since characters gain access to all of their perks with about five or six games' worth of bloodpoints, and since the characters themselves don't change regardless of their level, and since there is no ultimate "win" condition that finishes the game with an awesome cutscene followed by the words "the end", there is no grind. There's just "playing the game". The two are not mutually inclusive. The game was meant to be played over and over. That's the whole purpose. Every match is meant to be enjoyed. As such, robotically rushing through match after match to gain access to a specific perk or achievement is choosing to deliberately make the game a chore until such thing is achieved. I don't understand that logic.

  • @TheClownIsKing said:

If you don’t like grinding, that’s perfectly fine and valid.

If you think it takes a long time to achieve these lofty goals you have set yourself, yes. Yes it does take a long time.

Stop pretending it’s mandatory though. Stop complaining like you’re forced to do it.

No one perk, or any add on, or item is essential to either winning or increasing your skill in this game.

You could keep a Survivor or Killer at level 1 if you wanted to and STILL learn to play well with them.

Don’t like grinding, fine. Stop behaving like you’re forced to do so in this game.

    Once again I agree.

I've tried to make this point to multiple people, on the forum and off, but they don't seem to get it. "I hate how much of a grind this is", they say. I point out that to "grind" is to play the game, and that they can either rush it on purpose and hate everything until they get X perk or whatever, or they can...ya know, enjoy the game.

It reminds me of the South Park episode where the characters are sweating Warcraft hard because they desperately want to level up to macro god tier levels in order to deal with another player who's annoying them. They spend weeks if not months playing to level up to the point at which they can defeat him. Once defeated, they ponder what to do next. "Now we can play the game", one of them says.

I and many others want to have a chance to actually play it before the devs mess with it, thank you.

I HAVE played it, multiple times, and it's just fine. No one on either side had any problem playing it. The matches went like ten minutes. Nothing about the map felt especially egregious or unfair for either side, as I played both. The killer did better every time I played than any of the survivors did so I'm also uncertain as to why so many killer mains are complaining.

And no, some of us do not want this map split into a bunch of pointlessly redundant near-duplicates. The map is complex and every area is different (and there are several wide open and outdoor areas for everyone who's decided that the map is just a single narrow hallway maze).

This is the first indoor map of this scale. There are 35 other maps to enjoy if you hate this one. Let those of us who appreciate it enjoy it. Soon enough you'll either know the map well enough not to have any serious problems or you'll just see it once a week like half the other maps in this game. Life will go on.

I'm basing my experience from talking to people in the various forums, in the game, on discord, in stream chats, etc. Most people that I have talked to about indoor maps really don't like indoor maps.

So yes, in my experience it is the majority of players. Which is why it would be nice for BHVR to at least acknowledge that most people don't seem to like them and perhaps address some of those issues.

That's still anecdotal, but I understand what you're saying.

If so many people hate the indoor maps I'd like them to address why - simply saying "they suck, they're imbalanced", etc., isn't enough to warrant calls to remove them from the game. If that many people hate them I'd be curious to know how many hate them for legitimate reasons as opposed to the simple entitlement of "because I don't win as many games on them". Call me cynical but I'm guessing that this is the main complaint, and that it's mainly the killer mains making them. If not, then there just happens to be some kind of universal problem with all the indoor maps that bears objective, "bipartisan" examination. I'd be all for that. What I'm not for is everyone who likes something having to bow to the will of those who don't. I'm not yet aware of any map that was deleted or seriously gutted due to nothing more than the personal preferences of an especially vocal segment of the fanbase, but I don't want to see us getting there either.

  • Honestly I'd be perfectly fine with a straight-up randomization option. Imagine how cool that could be: Hit a button to start a match with the survivors and killers unknown, the perks and items and loadouts unknown, and even the maps unknown. That would be SO fun. Just a total DBD roulette. It would help to keep things totally fresh while also ensuring that every player who tries it gets exposed to all new builds, strategies, etc.

Of course I also greatly hope that they simply flesh out the mode by giving the player more control as well. I'd love to get in more practice as killer without a bunch of sweaty survivors rushing my game and mocking how poor I am. Or try more survivor loadouts to see how well they work against various killers. Playing with / against bots has tremendous potential, especially when the online game is going through a rough patch like today.

  • Lol thank you. :)

I'm just coming from a place of age and experience. Not to pat myself on the back, I'm a relative potato when it comes to this game. My 400 hours or whatever pale in comparison to many, many, many other players. But, I do have decades of gaming to look back on as well as having had the fortune of being able to see the industry from the other side when I worked with THQ, so I try to keep a balanced attitude about this kind of stuff. That's not to say that no one else does, I just hate to see people go crazy when things go wrong. I don't blame them, but I know that these things often turn out alright in the end. Meanwhile, while I can't make excuses for BHVR's efforts (or lack thereof) regarding optimization, I can at least attest to the fact that much of what they've been raked over the coals for is what many other game developers go through as well. I can say from firsthand experience that bugs and glitches and consumer frustration can bother the developer just as much, if not more so, than the players themselves.

Just trying to help people shift away from the "BHVR is lazy and sucks and hates their customers" mentality, that's all. It's usually not quite that simple. :P

  • I absolutely agree with it, and think that there's a good chance that the devs will be going in this direction. They mentioned bots favorably in the 5th anniversary stream so I don't think that this will be the end of it. I'm no programmer but I would also imagine that adding more options would be relatively easy to do. After all, there's apparently already a full-fledged but mode in the mobile version of the game (I can't personally confirm).

What's there is already very good as far as pathfinding and general AI intelligence is concerned. The foundation is solid. I am fully in favor of them fleshing it out even further, adding more selectable options and characters, etc., for a multitude of reasons.

The problem is that they are the majority. Indoor maps are the most hated maps in the game and even the least safe is still almost as strong as Haddonfield if the survivors know how to use the W key and basic stealth, which in the flip side is what survivors usually have to do on indoor maps because even when there are good loops you cannot actually see them.

I don't think they should be disabled, but at the same time it is genuinely understandable why they are so hated and I think the developers need to take responsibility for the horrendous gameplay they enable.

I personally don't think that there's any way to quantify what the majority of players think in this game, since there's no way to accurately and empirically poll everyone who plays it. I also don't think that what may happen to be a vocal opinion necessarily constitutes the majority, and even if it DID, that's just judging from one source (this forum). There could be tens of thousands of people who have entirely different opinions on all of these maps for entirely different reasons that people express. There are also, unarguably, tens of thousands of people who play this game and don't visit the forum or otherwise express themselves at all. Plus untold people who may be completely indifferent.

My point is that I don't care who thinks they're right (including myself) or who thinks that something is good or bad. Everyone's going to disagree on something or another. What I'm tired of is the aggressive "just delete it" attitude. There are maps in this game that killer mains hate. Killers in this game that survivor mains hate. Playstyles that loopers hate. No one agrees on camping. No one agrees on teabagging. No one agrees on whether flashlights are fair. No one agrees on which killers deserve nerfs and buffs and which perks are OP.

The game is for everybody, and variety is what helps to make this a fact. There are now, if I counted correctly, 36 maps in this game. Half a dozen of those are indoors. People who complain about indoor maps to the degree that some of them do are raising hell about maps that take up one sixth, or fifteen percent. That's already a wildly lopsided number, and that fifteen percent is even lower when one considers how frequently other maps - such as the ones that occur multiple times per realm, like Coldwind or Autohaven - are selected.

Some people love the indoor maps. I'm one of them. I also love the outdoor maps. Often I play as survivor. Sometimes I play as killer. Sometimes I play with crappy people and have to deal with ######### attitudes, sometimes I play with great people who are generous and sportsmanlike. Sometimes I "win". Sometimes I lose. Sometimes I play on maps that I can't stand, but I do it anyway. All of this is perfectly okay to me because I recognize that this game is built to suit all kinds of tastes, styles and preferences, not just my own. And until someone can produce a legitimate, realistic poll that can somehow accurately determine that a map - ANY map - is somehow causing serious grief and performance-related problems that are overwhelmingly unfair to any one side, I completely abhor the attitude that any of them should be taken from players who enjoy them just to appease the ones who don't.

  • Just to add to the conversation the same just happened to me. It's alright (for me), I expected it and little to no damage was done, but it's still a problem.

I admire your optimism but people have been screaming for an optimization update since March of 2019, and the game has been getting perpetually worse over the past two years with this patch possibly being the worst state the game has been on all platforms possibly ever. People are losing faith in BHVR to fix things because of all the empty promises and lack on transparency. If you want an idea of what they think of console players I think the 1200 reply thread about console optimization still being unanswered gives an idea.

If there is one nice aspect of being on console it’s that hackers are almost impossible to encounter, so we have that going for us.

I wouldn't really call it optimism (though thank you for the compliment), just experience. I've seen what's happening today happen with countless games countless times. I don't like it, but I'm used to it. We shouldn't have to get used to it, but we do. It sucks, but it's just how things are these days.

As for the optimization, that's a somewhat different issue because I do understand that those of you who have been playing for a long time, in particular on consoles, have been asking and waiting quite some time for this already. While I have no doubt that today's serious issues will be sorted quickly, I sadly can't say that I feel the same about any lingering overall performance issues. Enough of you guys have said that they've been around for years that all I can do is express my sympathy and hope for the best. The game runs fine for me, but I know that not everyone has the same luck.

I’ve also played a bunch of GTA and even way more ESO, both these games have bugs, sure. But they both released before DbD and are way more optimized and run wayyyy better on my Xbox. ESO has a bunch of things on the UI all going on at once and the PvP can have dozens of players all spamming spells and it still doesn’t freeze and stutter as much as this game.

Well GTAO and Skyrim (I don't know about ESO specifically) had years and years of patches to smooth things out. Even now, they still have problems. GTAO is easily and constantly hacked by scumbag players as its userbase complains about the company only caring about fixing things that are to their financial benefit. Hundreds of bugs (some of them game-breaking) remained in the final patch of Skyrim and required the installation of a massive community mod to fix as the players complained about how lazy and incompetent Bethesda is. One of the Assassin's Creed games released with floating, faceless NPCs. EA's SimCity (2013) released with such atrocious online components that people literally couldn't even play the game for days.

Don't get me wrong, I'm on your side. I hate that this is how things are. I hate that the industry at large relies on the internet as a crutch to drip-feed fixes to glitches that we, the players, are the unpaid guinea pigs have to find. I'm 43 years old, when I grew up playing a new game amounted to putting it in the system and playing a relatively glitch-free experience, the end. I feel for you guys, I really do. I'm sure that I'll be irritated if I too go to play tonight and have the same issues that some of the rest of you are having.

I'm just saying that people are going HAM on BVHR right now as if they have catastrophically destroyed the game in a way that no other developer ever has. And again, I really do get the frustration. I guess I've just been through this before and have come to expect it (no, we shouldn't have to, but that's the world we live in), and know that soon enough the biggest issues will be smoothed over. It's not like the game will remain in this state.

Should these issues have been resolved before release? 100 percent, yes. But I mean, don't worry, we'll be playing like usual very soon.

They didn't like the fact that people were bugging cosmetics, so they snuck this in to get rid of those un linked cosmetics.

No offense but isn't that statement kind of like saying "BHVR are jerks who went and changed something in the game that people were using in a way that they didn't approve of"?

I haven't seen any of those comments.

Definitely seen some saying that it's a bad map, which could be true, but I haven't gotten to play on it yet.

I've responded to about six different people saying that just today. One of the first comments in this very thread says that the disabling of the new map is a good thing (which may or may not be another complaint about the map's general existence. I don't know which is why I didn't respond). I can link you to a thread in which someone told me outright that "the majority of players" hate the map, and because that's allegedly the case the map needs to be changed, and that the opinions of people who are, in this person's words, "less than 1 percent", essentially shouldn't matter.

"It's an objectively bad map". "Just delete all the indoor maps". "This is the most complained-about map since Midwich". "This is the worst map since The Game". "Let's keep this map deleted". If you haven't seen any of this even just today, let alone here and there over the last month (in particular during the PTB), then you must not be clicking the same threads that I am.

Everyone has every right to hate whatever map they want for whatever reason they like. I don't begrudge them that. What I don't like is the presumptuous, entitled attitude of statements like "can we just delete it". Comments of that nature are de facto assertions that what they like should be allowed, and what they don't like should be eliminated.

    yup. plus your perk loadout

luckily, it seems you don’t actually lose anything- but its still annoying (especially if you had glitched sets)

Hmm. Fortunately I won't be too badly affected but that still sucks. It's a waste of time at the very least, and a huge headache for those who really kitted out all of their characters.

    Nobody is saying that.

What people are saying is that the map CRASHED their games.

Unless you are talking about the PTB feedback for the map, where it was said that it destroys certain Killers and is confusing.

I'm referring to the many comments that suggest that the map should remain disabled because those people happen to dislike it. Some have similarly taken this opportunity to request that all indoor maps just be deleted altogether.

The "argument" that something shouldn't exist because that person may happen to dislike the thing in question is tiresome, and it's been raging all day (as I thought it would, because I and many others went through the same nonsense during the PTB). I've read that there have been crashes on Dead Dawg, a map that I hate. Nowhere will I make a comment saying that "less than one percent" of the players like it, that it's "a bad map" that "doesn't belong in DBD" and that "it should just be deleted".

Glitches in games is normal and should be expected.

However, the sheer volume and variety of the bugs and glitches we experience in dbd is unlike any other game I've ever played that isn't Goat Simulator.

Mm, I suppose it's subjective. It does sound like there have been a lot of bugs today but I come from games like The Elder Scrolls and GTA Online which had what seemed like hundreds.

That said, experiencing a bunch of bugs is frustrating no matter what the game is, so I feel for the people who are having to go through them. I guess I just wanted to remind everyone that this is, unfortunately more or less how the gaming industry works these days. Always gotta wait for hotfixes and so forth. It sucks, but things will hopefully be resolved soon.

  • Okay, I understand now. Thanks for the info, guys. Hopefully it will just be a bug that needs to be fixed.

  • If you play the tutorial EVERY equipped item and cosmetic on EVERY character in the entire game gets unequipped?

  • I haven't bought the DLC yet. Can someone explain to me what happened?

  • No problem. Didn't mean for it to sound like a scolding, just wanted to confirm that others have also had the same issue.
