Yeah, I get sad every time a map loads and I remember it'll never be Hawkins again. And now we got the insanely boring, bland Eyrie of Crows in it's place and I hate that map. I just wanna leave game every time I get it.

DBD's progression is all sorts of badly implemented.
If you ever really hit a point in your grinding that someone can buy a new character (whether with actual money or by having saved up in-game currency), and then... find themselves not playing it because the game just isn't based around the idea of having no perks, then you've got a problem.
You also have a problem if most of your "progression" is essentially a waste of time. Oodles of pointless offerings; offerings to give you bonus BP to be vaguely insulting; random map offerings you'll never want but have to take; too many junk addons... and then a perk! But you can't control which perk. Nope, got to RNG it up. Also, it has three levels, because, so RNG it more times. You want to play X combo on X character and you already unlocked all the parts elsewhere? No, play a lot of games with the thing you don't want to do and hope you RNG into it.
You can have progression and grinding for something without this repeated buy new character -> start again -> prestige -> start again -> buy new teachables on someone else -> make all future characters harder to get a specific combo on also unlock 9 bloody RNG nodes across everyone -> buy new character... loop.
It's not a fun experience to be a newish player right now and have one character with a decent selection and then anyone else you might want to play might as well not have a loadout screen. Bonus points for things like BBQ RNG, so playing new characters even if they're fun delays being able to really get into them more because you get less BP.
Bonus points if Prestige ever gets upgraded to be actively useful. That's going to really exacerbate it.
Now here we can have a conversation. I agree the progression sucks, but not having any would be worse. Trimming the fat from bloodwebs, a rebate system so you can sell back useless addons and offerings and lower prices for cosmetics in the store so grinding a new Killer doesn't take me 3 days of playing for 8 hours would be welcome. But what I don't want to do is to basically hand out all perks to every new player.
Or maybe we should? I'd still grind for cosmetics, just not as often. Cosmetics don't motivate me as much as tangible mechanical benefits.

I dont play certain killers if I dont have certain addons. The grind doesnt keep me playing.
It does for me. Having no goal to work toward will make me stop playing a game instantly; I want progression. DbD currently has enough and also, the idea that you must have certain perks and addons and such is in and of itself a problem. You can make great builds without having every single perk, addon and offering. I've been doing it for years; so have many others.

@RainehDaze said:
... why? I honestly don't get why someone could think it's at a remotely acceptable level especially given the game just dropped for free on yet another platform to bring in new players.
Like, let's take my current thoughts: I want to play with Artist's Scourge Hook perk, so I need to get her to level 35. Then I need to farm out the one character I've been unlocking perks on consistently so I can get that. Hm, but if I'm considering double scourge hook play, maybe I should grab Agitation? Well, I haven't done anything with Trapper, so that's another 40 levels plus perk unlocks...
To play with one perk combo on one character. That's... what, 1.5mil BP for 75 levels? 2 mil? Which is, optimally, about 21 games with BBQ+max BP, and if we're generous and say 4 games an hour factoring in gameplay and queuing and loading screens and menu, that's five hours minimum. 10 hours if we halve that BP gain just for things not going perfectly.
10 hours of farming and not trying anything new until I can play... one perk combo.
There are 25 more killers alone to theoretically level. And prestige. And then there's survivors too.
I got her to P3 level 50 in less than a day. Play Killer, use BP offerings and BP perks when you get them, don't waste points and play to get max score. You'll soon find everything you want unlocked will be unlocked.

How I want to phrase this? A lot of influential voices believe that the only valid survivor skill is looping and the only possible way to have fun is in a chase.
The reality is that just because something *can* be looped doesn't mean it *should* be looped. The killer is playing the game too, and the survivor has made a pretty awful play if they take a hit at a safe tile. Risk mitigation, positioning, and game sense are very much skills.
There's obviously some nuance to this. The crouching survivor who fears a terror radius and is allergic to generators but escapes is also probably responsible for the other three deaths in some fashion. It's why I have a lot of issues with basing survivor MMR solely on individual escapes.
There's so much context that goes into survivor play. A pre-dropper isn't bad because they're pre-dropping. If 3 gens go in that chase, then that's a great chase. Someone who loops near a gen in progress is pretty unaware of the situation. But congrats on the loops
I want to address the latter half of your post. Particularly regarding MMR: This isn't a team game. It's 4 individuals vs 1 other individual, not Team Killer vs. Team Survivor. As a Survivor your goal is and has always been to escape; therefore your win condition is escaping. Same as the Killer's win condition is Kills. This is as it should be.

I was actually worried you were serious with the top part lol, I was like dang what happened to this poor individual. I see your point but also raise you that 95% of survivors at high ranks aren't too concerned with the risk of being found by the killer. While I agree that I love having survivors off totems I just, personally as everyone has their own view, don't think it buys 'enough' time to be worth taking. I think a way to make it a time waster would to make it so you HAVE to cleanse the most recently rekindled totem and cleanse them in order while the other rekindled ones are blocked. While in solo q itd buy more time than swf they would have to rotate around the spots they were told by their friends to find the recent one. (Though I can foresee issues with that idea as well) I think even without boons it needs a little more ooomph in terms of being cleansed.
If the survivors aren't concerned with you finding them you've identified the real problem - you're not a threat. Start being one. Don't worry, you'll get better with a few thousand hours under your belt and then you'll understand what I mean. Right now you don't want to learn because you're trying to win an argument and be right, but you'll come around when you have experience and figure out that wasting Survivor time is the second-best thing you can do aside from killing them.
-
Use Spies From the Shadows. it's the best detection perk in the game, because Survivors ignore crows, never run Calm Spirit and often don't know it exists because they never see it and usually they don't play Killer at all.
-
@rafaelbisol said:
Except that is not used properly. Since it has already been tried and abused, the team has to think how the feature should not be abused and implement it. In my opinion (also the opinion of many players) this is the worst situation in the game right now.
No. it's a bad idea; all that will hap[pen is Survivors will abuse it by lurking near the hook just out of range so the Killer can't start a chase, but close enough that their presence is known so the Killer knows that if he leaves it's a free save. Killers should not be forced to give free saves or not defend hooks. Your idea isn't original; it's just as awful as the other bajillion people who proposed it.

Doing bones doesn't take long, when you already know where it is. It does work very well with plaything and thrill, however most of the time I use it, which is a lot because even though it hasn't been very useful I so want it to be, it gets cleansed like 10 seconds after I rekindle it making it not useful. The nice thing about hexes is when they're in some bizarre corner of the map, usually the swamp, where noone can find it. But with this they already know where it is (and if its a swf then everyone knows where it is bat that's its own issue)
So you're saying that it's a bad perk and everything I said is wrong despite the fact that I'm using it right now and it's working? Amazing, I must be hallucinating. I guess after 3,800 hours I finally went off the deep end. To the mental hospital I go!
That was sarcasm, by the way. Everything you said is ...not wrong, but you are undervaluing the time and risk it takes to potentially cross the map, not doing gens or other objectives, to search for a single totem and risk getting caught by the Killer while doing so. Any time Survivors aren't on gens is a net gain for the Killer.

All killer who need to do it, can do it but maybe there are less killer camping (especially new killer) if they have a greater benefit for leaving the hook.
Still won't work because just walking away from the hook with no further thought is always a bad idea and will lead to just an escaped survivor. Spreading hooks around early on is a bad idea, period; just because you see 10k hour streamers (and Nurse mains) do it doesn't mean everyone can. What usually happens when you leave a hook is the Survivor gets rescued, healed and back on a gen. You have therefore wasted your time; all you got out of your chase was a single hook and you didn't waste Survivor time by chasing people while the other one is hooked or harassing them off gens. Always be looking to tunnel; you want Survivors out of the game as quick as possible. Playing for Survivor fun is going to result in a lot of losses and if you don't know when to tunnel/camp, when to patrol the area and how to waste Survivor time by forcing them to commit to a rescue. Run specific detection perks to maintain map awareness until you have the game sense to not need it - Spies From the Shadows is the best detection perk and nobody runs Calm Spirit or avoids crows so it is 100% map awareness all the time and using it will make it easy to watch a hook while patrolling 3 or 4 gens; more on a high-mobility Killer. Play smarter, don't beg for changes.

Do you think the there would be less camping and tunneling with DS and Pop as Basekit?

No. Camping and tunneling happen because Killers NEED to do these things and quite frankly I don't enjoy chases so I tend to play defensively. If the only option becomes non-stop chasing, I'll just quit playing as will many others. Some of us have our ADHD managed and don't need to be 'gogogogo' non-stop to have fun.

Even if you discount boons making pentimento completely irrelevant it would still, and does, preform poorly. what I mean is while yes it is a cool perk and conceptually I love the idea, If the survivors find out you have it (which it is very obvious the minute you rekindle the first totem) They already broke the totem so they already know where it is and will make a b line for it (rightly so as it is strong) so unless you're going against a team of goldfish who immediately forget where the totem they broke was you don't get much use out of the perk. (I got the 5 tokens once because someone had counterforce, for some reason, and I had to spend 10 minutes practically showing the last totem, which was a hex:plaything of a long dead survivor in the match, and I had to act like I had suddenly forgotten how to chase the last two survivors. It was far too much work to get it done lol.)
You just stated yourself why it isn't bad. Someone going to snuff a totem isn't doing a gen.
Now as for the rest, get creative. I have builds on these forums that make use of it and I bet if you try you can come up with a fvew perk combos, too. Remember it isn't an individual perk that makes a build.

Ugh I love that build you have on. I haven't tried it myself yet but on Nurse sounds absolutely beautifully disgusting. I play Nurse on occasion but not as often as I'd like because like you said, she's hard to play and it's super frustrating sometimes but what made me appreciate her strength and any steady Nurse mains is one of the first matches I played when I was playing more "serious" with Nurse (previously didn't take my matches seriously all survivors were merely my guinea pigs until I got the hang of her) and I got a bully squad. All loaded up with flashies, DS, teabags, the whole shebang babey and I 4k'd that match. Nurse don't give a ######### about your DS and it's beautiful. But I'm in no way a good Nurse. Just a mediocre gamer who sometimes gets lucky but I was pleased with that outcome.
I got off topic but that's a good build for Nurse I'm gonna have to try one day when I feel more confident in my Nurse's skill but as of right now I do not feel confident taking on a 4 man streamer swf. I tip my off to you and I genuinely mean it. I respect the hell out of you and anyone who steadily mains and plays Nurse.
Well-said. And don't get me wrong - those streamers were hellish to play against. But it was less hellish than if I was playing literally any other Killer.

Either way Survivors have to waste extra seconds, either return to that totem and cleanse it OR just bless it which takes twice as much time.
Also I cleansed his totem, hide in a locker next to it, killer come there after like 10 seconds to activate his hex totem and then I cleanse it in like 16 seconds after he left. Haha :D
Still time you weren't on a gen and that's time wasted. Perk value attained.

You can just bless over the hexes and deny their effects and Pentimento only works if people cleanse a totem, but since they are using boons they won't cleanse. It's not that much of a time waste and definitely not a 100% counter to boons.
Doesn't work that way. I am literally using this build to amazing effect right now. I'm telling you, it works fantastically well.
@Chocolate_Cosmos said:
You can't bless over Haunted. Trust me, I played match againts this build yesterday and I thought I can bless over it, nope. So I wasted XX extra seconds on blessing.
If you realise killer is probably playing this or similar build, just clense it. Don't give him the value from Thrill or other perks.
Cleansing is worse. Then the Killer relights it with Pentimento and you have to go back and waste MORE time cleansing it again. If you don't, you eat the penalty. It's almost foolproof.

I don’t know if basement hooks should be Scourge hooks by default, but I’ve been pulling for a revamp of Monstrous Shrine to read
- Rescues off basement hooks take 2/3/4 seconds longer
- You can always see the basement hook auras
- All basement hooks count as Scourge hooks for related perks
That would give Monstrous Shrine some better abilities and also let it synergize with Scourge Hook perks.
This is brilliant and i'd run it for sure.
-
@AnneBonny said:
can't they just bless over them though
Nope. 4 or maybe even all 5 are lit from the start and if they break them you relight with pentimento. If they get hooked and a dull is still on the map, it becomes a Plaything totem they must cleanse or remain oblivious all game long. If they cleanse it...Pentimento again to make it a lit totem. Regardless, you make the Survivors spend the entire game lighting and breaking totems ..or they can ignore them and deal with the consequences, plus Haunted Ground makes it so there's a 40% chance the totem they cleanse will make their entire team Exposed for a minute. Imagine being in a chase and then a totem falls and you get one-shotted, then hooked and made Oblivious, then the Killer turns the destroyed totem into a Hex totem anyway.
Time-waster and 100% counters Boons. It's actually a good build in general; I've been trying it out at red ranks and it works a treat.
-
Boons suck, but I did find sort of a workaround: use Hex: Plaything and they can either be oblivious all game or cleanse the dull. Then you lock them into one boon tops if you hook all 4 survivors, though you need to snuff and then hook. Add in a few hexes of your own and you can negate all their boons at the cost of your own hexes, and you could even add in Pentimento to get extra use out of those broken totems.

Ah yeah, you’re right. Still, way easier to hit a zombie with the whip than a survivor.
If you solely use the whip on zombies, you are cheating yourself out of an amazing tool. Practice hitting the whip; it has a 'drag' after it lands that takes some getting used to. Like...an actual whip.

Hands down, my favorite map. All my favorite Killers - Nurse, Nemesis, Bubba, Mikey, Legion, Plague - excelled there and there are vanishingly few tight indoor maps left. Lery's comes close and Midwich is still excellent, but now my map pool shrank massively. I'd love to see a rework of the map; I liked @jesterkind's suggestion of making it Trickster's map.

Did you know that the level designer in the game "Catherine" ended up getting so good at playing the game, that he ended up making levels that nearly no normal player could beat? They had to move those levels over to a special arcade challenge mode because the man had lost sight of a typical user experience. That is what it's like like professional streamers talk about "oh comms don't help survivors THAT much," or "any killer is viable," or "well THIS power definitely has be be nerfed! Look how often I 4k with it, despite 4k'ing with every killer every time because of my overwhelming experience advantage."
Amen. Even my measly 3k hours puts me leagues ahead of the average player barely hitting a few hundred and it shows. Now imagine that but multiplied many times by someone who plays DbD for a living. You develop game sense after a while and you can tell the top DbD streamers have it in spades. Same reason why Survivors love to call hax when an experienced Killer just finds them despite their brilliant hiding spot out of the blue with no perks or powers to do so; it's just experience and game sense, but to them it looks so impossible they assume it must be cheating.

FFS, nobody's getting offended by the actual teabagging part (or at least, I hope nobody finds "spam crouch button" actually in some way intrinsically upsetting, that would be pretty odd); it's the intent it signifies. Same as shouting profanities at people, rude hand gestures, insulting their parentage, random slurs, etc.
People just want to play the game without being taunted when they're losing, taunted even when they're technically winning, and just generally treated as unworthy of common decency. In isolation it's bearable, but if it keeps happening in game after game in one day? Very aggravating. Particularly when this is meant to be a fun experience and people are making it clear they don't want you to enjoy it.
When people say, "just ignore it", it makes me think they haven't actually had to deal with bullies. It's not something that stops, not giving them a reaction doesn't work if they even get one occasionally, and it isn't behaviour that you condone by turning a blind eye to and letting it sort itself out.
We all want to enjoy the game, yes? So can we not blithely accept the people who transparently want someone else not to?
This. I couldn't have said it better; poor sportsmanship ruins the fun for everyone and kills immersion.

I've often found sound input as survivor far less necessary. I've sunk way more time on killer than survivor overall but to not play half the game is silly. Survivor is fun but its just not as interesting as killer.
Sadly the experience I want from survivor is one of constant threat and fear from getting caught and often games just don't deliver that. Even if the killer gets a hit or pops a gen its really simple to reset killer pressure with super fast healing and gen tapping. Bring a load out of 1v1 perks a tool box with a BNP, buddy with a good med kit a couple of boons and you and your pal can smash over half the survivor objective usually before the killer has two hooks.
I wouldn't say it takes no skill but if you've been sweating your arse off as killer it feels pretty cruisy to cakewalk your way to an escape in over half your matches as survivor.
Also even if the team dies and you get out its still a little personal win for you so you don't have the same constant sense of loss not getting the kills as killer, this is even more true if playing solo where the team's success often doesn't even factor in to your own personal dopamine hit from getting out alive on your own.
And this. I have friends who are Survivor mains that actually listen to music while they play then they try that as a Killer (on the rare occassions they play it) and realize that sound is super important and oh yeah you have to actually pay attention as a Killer or you get stomped and teabagged at the exit, kinda like how they do to Killers when they're on the other side. It's always glorious to see, but the point is - Survivor is easy mode. Indisputably. Simple, never changes, once you learn it you learned it and you just refine a specific skillset. Killer is a different animal - each Killer and perk combo is a different game, each map affects how you play as a Killer, every little thing matters. Survivors can just throw on a meta build and a flashlight and go; no further thought required.
-
Just seeing that abomination makes me want to uninstall. Such sweat.
-
Nemesis is average and suffers on a lot of maps - on maps that are too open his zombies are useless and on maps that are cluttered they get easily trapped in corners by survivors. He's decent, but has major weaknesses.
-
I see too many identical characters, an obvious 4-man SWF or multiple flashlights and I'm out. Two or more Mikaela's is a nope too; reduces the odds of a bajillion boons.

As a very experienced Killer, I am in P A I N
The game is ######### miserable at higher MMR. Do I 4K most of my matches? Yes. That's not what I am arguing.
The high-skill experience of this game is the antithesis of fun. It takes the fun part and skillful part of the game (chases) and makes it something that will cost you the match for participating in.
So much this. Against the truly terrifying teams you have no choice but to set up and defend hard while keeping them locked in your little fun zone so you can patrol a few gens and bleed them out slowly or hope you get lucky and can tunnel someone out quick.

And this is already 50% of the success. 🤣
Nope, not been my experience in the last five years of playing this game as a Killer main. More often than not tunneling and proxy camping gets me at least 2 kills, plus 3 to 4 survivors spending much of the match not doing gens while they swarm for the save and usually I 4k.

You said they weren't good enough and that was the reason they died. Which isn't neccessarily the case in dbd since the game is very unbalanced and rng is a thing.
That was my point.
The RNG is almost never against Survivors. Five years of playing this game has convinced me of that. I have played tons of games with loops that were nigh-unwinnable for a skilled M1 Killer without Bamboozle, for example. Something a Killer has no control over unless they always run that one specific perk. Survivors are never forced into a no-win like that; if they are screwed it's because of their decisions.

I'm talking about waiting until the timer is half down and then hooking. It's easy to bait it with altruistic teams.
And what? Say what you will about NOED, but it's not a win more perk... NOED explicitly has no effect if you win the game before the end.
If you are losing badly, NOED isn't likely to change that, if it even activates. At most you'll get 1 more kill unless the Survivors are mega bad or you get very lucky. It's a win more perk.
-
@Laluzi said:
Blood Warden doesn't need a buff. It's extremely good at what it does. Resetting the timer makes it even more braindead to be able to lock survivors in until the end of endgame collapse.
The only issue with Blood Warden that makes it risky to run is the prevalence of 99ing the gates; it's a perfect perk otherwise.
Nope. it makes it so if the gates are open you leave or risk being trapped. if you get trapped, wait it out for a minute. Not hard. It's actually pretty bad as a perk; a win more perk like NOED.

If the killer sees you (which happens to even blendettes) they start chasing you, losing them is not always an option nor possible. It depends on a lot of factors. Also ever played solo q?
While it can be a breeze with decent teammates, if they aren't that good there is not much you can do to win sometimes even if you just play selfishly.

If all resources are gone and teammates took their time to do gens it is not possible to loop forever depending on a map even if you are a god. You are being illogical.
By your logic unviable m1 killers just need to git gud against swf and 4k on haddonfield. If they can't it is on them.
Am I being illogical? If you tried something impossible, then the fault lies with you. You set yourself up to fail.
I said nothing about M1 Killers and my that logic does not in any way follow. There is a difference between a thing you believe you're skilled enough to do but aren't and just plain impossible things due to balance. Remember - Killers are racing against the clock with 4 opponents and 16 perks to outthink them. If their kits aren't good enough and Killer perks in general aren't strong enough or they make a mistake or a map layout is bad or the survivors are an SWF on voice with coordinated obnoxious strats who call out your every move...that makes it far less likely you'll win. That's not fair or balanced; it's very unbalanced in the survivors' favor. Just an example.

she doesn't need a nerf though.
This has never stopped BHVR before. If Survivors complain even a little and a popular streamer jumps on the bandwagon, she's toast.

Why so hostile man?
Hostile? It's a fact; if you tried to do something and failed, you weren't good enough. No insult is intended, that's just how it is.

Or you play Killers because you enjoy them. I like playing Trapper, so I play Trapper. But should I expect to win every game? Heck, no, I am playing Trapper. A Killer who needs to collect his power from the ground.
If you only care for winning, yes, you have to play S-Tier Killers. But if you just want to have fun, you can play any Killer.
I enjoy winning. If I know I'm making it harder for myself needlessly, i'm not having fun. I'm in it to win it; my opponents should feel pressured and a trash Killer can't do that without extreme effort and even then it's unlikely you'll get a clean win without some luck on your side or extremely bad Survivors. It's Nurse for me all day, every day; what I can accomplish with her is only limited by my skill.

I rarely see any legions, and just as rare to see people dc against legion.
Doesn't seem like a legion problem, more of a problem how that legion is playing
So you do in fact condone quitting when you're losing?

Tbf I’d rather watch paint dry then play against him. It’s pretty boring for a lot of people
Boring = requires effort

it's already pretty great for revenge against SWFs and general toxicity (see benjo*), but how would you improve it?
I'd maybe make it so the timer resets (maybe with slightly less time on it) whenever you get a hook after the first one.
and/or
I'd have it give some effect when you put a survivor into the injured state (thus the blood part of blood warden). Maybe other injured survivors in your terror radius scream?
Just make it infinite. As long as someone is hooked, you aren't leaving.

"I only do it sometimes if survivor/s try to mock me with teabags and clicking the whole game."
yea i understand that, but sometimes i loop a killer for lets say 4 min and they say that its toxic to stun and just play... i mean what do they want me to do. Its like they expect me to do 3 pallet stuns and just let them down me. Thats the only time i get really pissed off when im playing good and getting punished for it. But hey atleast i can enjoy the endgame chats when they say "Ur so #########", "EZ", "Noob", "Uninstall dbd"
and yes only when you are the LAST survivor left and downed
If you loop them all game then go down at endgame, you weren't good enough and you get what they give you. Don't like it? leave game.

just let us suicide like cmon bro problem solved, PeOpLe ArE gOnNa TrOlL wItH iT... It isnt a huge problem but its a big waste of time to loop the ######### out of a killer and clap them then they decide to let u bleed out i mean sure i can watch youtube but like bruv get a life...
i mean honestly nothing more satisfying then dying to noed at end and just have ur body camped for 4 mins <3
Do you crawl to a corner with no hooks reachable or hide? I bet you do.
