For sure. I've bought games in the past with the intention of "omg this is going to be the next best thing, I'm going to sink 100s of hours into this!!".. until when I do buy it, I play it for a few hours and end up never touching it again. It's not that it's a bad game, it's that I have other games such as DBD that are on my priority list and take up most of my day. I have yet to find a game besides Overwatch that has captured my attention as much as this game does.
To be fair though, I've been cutting down on that habit and haven't bought too many new games recently. However, I must admit I'm eyeing up the new Evil Dead game and plan to buy it day one.. reminds me of Friday The 13th & looks promising.
Same here, minus the Overwatch mention (never played it, I normally don't play games online). I was given a Switch Lite two years ago and went crazy buying so many titles for it - more than 150 at last count - because the system has thousands of games and usually 600 - 1000 of them are on sale at any given time. When you can get a game for $5 to $15 bucks it's so easy to just pick one up here, pick one up there. And some of them seem like incredible games. Some of them ARE incredible games. But then for one reason or another I'll only putz around with them for a short time and think "this is going to be so cool to play once I'm done with game X" and before I know it I'm so wrapped up in game X that I forget all about the other game, even though I paid for it and had every intention of playing it.
Hell, Monstrum (almost a single-player DBD, kind of) is THE game that convinced me that I wanted the Lite, because I was over the moon at the idea of a portable version of one of my favorite games ever. It was delayed and I waited like half a year before finally getting it. But by then I had so many other games for the system that I've only put a few hours into Monstrum, lol.
-
Well, the game is free to play on the PC in the sense that no proprietary internet service is required. On the Switch, for example, you have to pay Nintendo like 20 bucks a year to be able to take any of their games online.
I don't know what most people consider to mean "free to play" but I think that, in general, it means "free to play online after the initial purchase". That's what I always assumed the term to mean, anyway. I could very well be wrong.

The developers have stated repeatedly that they put the most stable build onto the PTB NOT the most up to date build.
It means that the PTB isn't meant for anything outside of advertisement in the developer's eyes.
Hmm. I never happened to see that. I guess that makes sense. Maybe from now on they should stick to releasing whatever's stable.

xD I do the same thing with games so I can understand. I have such a huge backlog that I just keep saying I'm going to totally play someday.. yeah sure..
Oh yeah, for games it's even worse. It's so easy to get games these days, I remember when I was a kid and it was a weekend treat to rent a single NES game. Now I have probably 100 games from all corners of the internet, and Switch downloads, and any number of oddball finds that I've never actually sat down and given proper time to. It's kind of a waste to be honest, I should slow down. But it's hard when I get a game like DBD and get hooked, and then tend to forget most of them. I play it like crazy then suddenly the next big hook comes along and the lesser things, which may be fantastic, stay forgotten.
An embarrassment of riches, really.
-
I play a bunch of semi-redundant games whenever I prestige to unload my character's items. I mean I paid for them (in bloodpoints, of course), I might as well use them. And the games are only semi-redundant because by depleting the excess items I gain more BP to funnel into that character's leveling back up, or someone else's.
I've unlocked perhaps 8 teachables, all from Dwight, Meg, Claudette and Nea. I've also got about half a dozen more that I've purchased from the shrine because I knew that I wouldn't be using the characters that they belonged to for a long time. In all there are still about 8-10 more perks I think I'd like to unlock. Sadly I find many of the perks in this game to be too circumstantial or specific. That or they don't really fit the way I play. I have kind of a core group that I'm pretty happy with.

Ugh.. fair enough. Just consider it.
Lol I will, I actually will. I debate it from time to time. I'm actually pretty funny about watching movies, I really do have to be in a certain mood. It might take me years to get around to something that sounded interesting at one point, then at other times I'll just read the description of something I never heard of before, like "Don't Tell A Soul", and think "that's it, I'm gonna watch that RIGHT now".

That's it, right there. He's actually saying that very line right there in that shot, standing in front of a pool full of terrified teenagers. Phenomenal scene.

LOL again, I just don't know. There are some good horror movies that I need to catch up with, at the moment I just can't see the Nightmare remake being in that pile. I don't know that I'm ready yet. I may need to be in a certain mood, like drunk. And I don't drink. XD

So what movie do you recommend I should watch out of all of the NOEM movies? The first movie, second, third? I'd like to have some old-school nostalgia.
The first is the best, but the third is the most fun (that one's my favorite - while it did introduce the comedic Freddy, it also had some really interesting characters and kills, plus lots of lore for Freddy's character).
The second one is super homoerotic, which as a straight male is fine but very curious. Regardless of one's feelings on that most people forget (because it's overshadowed by the gay overtones) that Freddy comes off GREAT in that film. From his aggressive, no-nonsense body language, to his being cast almost exclusively in shadow, to his most iconic line in the series ("You are all my children now"), part 2 is actually unfairly overlooked.
I guess number 1 is the technical best, the creepiest and so forth. Number 2 keeps that vibe and Freddy is a badass in it but the gay overtones are kind of distracting (they may not be for a gay person, I can't say. It may just come across as campy). The third one, meanwhile, is in my opinion the most fun and entertaining by far if you just want to watch a good old-fashioned mix of comedy, good kills, and interesting character development. Plus Patricia Arquette and Lawrence Fishburne.
Starting with 4 the series basically jumped the shark until Wes Craven tried to right the ship with New Nightmare, a very different entry in the series, and then of course there's Freddy vs. Jason which is pretty straightforward.

I seem to only get toxic killers like that, which is why I stick to killer. I don’t bm at all and I’ll have killers slapping me on hook, nodding at me, face camping, watching me bleed out. If I start playing a lot of survivor again I’m debating on even playing nice since most don’t appreciate it.
Someone here said that killers are the most toxic in terms of actual gameplay (things like what you describe) whereas survivors are the most toxic in post-game chat. For me that has indeed been the case. Not necessarily because I have sweetheart survivors whenever I play killer (I don't. Teabagging and flashlight abusing are apparently part of the rules) but because after (an admittedly short) three months I still have yet to have a single killer ever say anything even remotely rude to me after the game. Hell, I've had minute-long conversations with some discussing our favorite parts of the match, wishing each other luck, congratulating each other on a good play, etc. Survivors? I've had some of them yell at me for apparently not playing to their satisfaction while on their same SIDE.

I can understand that. I was never really interested in the original movies & don't even remember them that well, so maybe I could rewatch them in the future to see what people are talking about.
With that being said, I demand you watch the remake! I'm not kidding, if I find out you've never watched it I'll have to bonk you with my kanabo. Who knows, maybe you'll like it. If you don't, I'll make it up to you somehow.
LOL well the Oni IS terrifying, so that's something that I'll have to consider. :)
I grew up with the originals - the earliest memory I have of being scared by a movie was when I saw a couple of specific scenes in the original film and tried to con my older sister into turning it off. She wasn't falling for it, I was only about 7 and had no sway. XD So yeah, it's hard for me to distance myself from the earlier films because if nothing else they were never boring.

because we are here to escape not make killers feel better ab themselves because they lost the previous game...
just use BBQ and use a BP offering if u want BPs that bad
That's reasonable but some people actually just want to farm for the points, not the pride. I generally don't like playing as killer (I have anxiety doing so, I'm not very good at it so that just leads me in an anxiety circle) so when I have to, like at night when that's the only way to get a game going, I like to just mess around for points and otherwise let the survivors go free. I don't care if I win, I just want to make some progress and get some decent BP for my time. The survivors seem to like it too, they run around and dance and drop their items and generally suggest that they like the opportunity to have a relaxing and easy game.
-
The most success I've had farming so far was as Amanda. I crouched for the boop, the group trusted me, and we farmed pretty well for the next ten minutes. Not as much as I'd like (I didn't hook anyone, I felt that they'd think that I was betraying them so I just didn't even want to try) but still pretty good nonetheless.
The other time was as Wraith. I found someone near a generator, uncloaked, and just spun in a circle banging the gong until the survivor cautiously made his way back over. I backed away from the generator, nodded, and continued to bong. While HE got it, it was still a little difficult getting the other survivors to understand what I was trying to do. In the Pig situation one of the survivors at least ran in a circle around me and gestured for me to follow her, that kind of thing, so others watching knew that I wasn't going to do any harm.

Devs have a history of putting out a good PTB and then breaking the live version.
I've heard that before. I wonder what causes it?

Strangely the PTB had absolutely no problems at all. Not during the day that I played, at least. That includes the map.

To be quite honest, I don't know why so many people hated the remake. The characters were likeable, the kills were good, the atmosphere was creepy & Freddy was the star of the show as he was more sadistic than he ever was.
A lot of the time when I'd ask somebody why they didn't like it, it was because Freddy wasn't played by Robert Englund.. and I thought that was a brainless reason to hate the movie since Haley did an amazing job with his performance. People just don't like change I guess.
But yeah, I have the movie on DVD and watch it whenever I feel like it. I really think you should watch it man, even if you hate it, just so you can be able to say you've seen it. Maybe come back and tell me if you liked it or not? Either way, as you said, to each their own :)
I'm sure that a lot of the initial hate was because it wasn't Robert Englund, yes. To an extent I understand, he WAS the character, he basically made his entire career and launched a successful studio with his portrayal. He played not only Freddy but Fred Krueger, without the burn makeup. He was inseparable from the character. I'm not against recasting him, and I was intrigued when they announced the choice that they did (though I feel that it's kind of sad in a way, being that the guy's previous big movie also had him playing a child molester). I just heard from everybody that, more than anything else, the movie was just plain boring.

No worries, my dear friend, no offence taken :)
And yes, I really enjoyed the remake. I loved the scarier and darker approach and Jackie was super good as Freddy. The only thing I disliked was that they didn't stick to the idea of making Freddy innocent, but that is just a minor issue.
As for the chapter itself, I think at this point you've already figured out which killer I main, but it goes beyond that. Most ANOES content was very different on release, and in my opinion that was the best Chapter in Dead by Daylight's history.

I'll be the second! I loved the remake and prefer it over the original.
Wow, make that two! I am legitimately not exaggerating when I say that I have not heard of anyone liking the movie at all. NO ONE. Zip. Not one person anywhere, ever. Until today. Now two in a row! I was honestly wondering if I'd go my whole life never seeing anyone defend that movie.
Now to be fair, I haven't seen it. I don't have a dog in the fight. Well technically I guess I do since I'm a big fan of much of the original Elm Street series (all but 4, 5, and 6, really), but having not seen the remake I can't judge. I actually think it's funny that the reason I didn't see it is because all my most trusted friends did and came back saying that it was the most boring thing they'd ever seen, that they hated it, that Haley was good but wasted in a movie that was otherwise completely abysmal, and that I would be completely wasting my time if I saw it. I can think for myself of course, but this was one of those situations where EVERYBODY said that the movie was utter crap.
I just kind of never bothered, and the lame F13 remake didn't do much to encourage me either. I also didn't like the more realistic approach to Freddy's burn makeup, he wound up looking like a Dr. Seuss character to me. I couldn't take him seriously. Then WB started cramming that version of Freddy into everything (the Mortal Kombat games and so forth) and I just got sick of the existence of the remake altogether. I DID appreciate the fact that they were bold enough to finally just come right out and admit that the character was a child molester, but from what I was told that was essentially the only change that was any good.
To each their own though. I despise The Blair Witch Project with a seething passion and that's one of the most profitable films ever made. I hated Birdman and it won an Oscar for best picture. Orson Welles and I come from the same town yet I thought that Citizen Kane was boring. I liked Godfather III better than Godfather II. Lol once again, to each their own. :)
-
I'll never forget one of the first times I lost to the Wraith. I was the last survivor and he finally downed me for the second time. He then ran circles around my body for about 30 straight seconds clanging his bell. BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG!
I just kind of sat there, looking at my monitor, like "Alright".
Then he finally had enough and hooked me, and did it again. The whole animation, from hook to sacrifice: BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! Running in circles around the hook. BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! You done? No? BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! I finally ascended to spider heaven. He still hadn't gotten it out of his system yet. BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! I could hear him down there. BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG!
Make no mistake, I'm of the belief that players who feel the need to teabag the killer at the gate are either 12 years old or wish that they still were. But hell, at least they're QUIET.

If you enjoyed the remake, like I did, ANOES Chapter was literally perfect on release.
Don't be offended by this (I mean that, you're a nice guy and I'm saying it to be honest, not to offend) but you are, LITERALLY, the first person I have ever spoken to - and I mean EVER - who has said that they enjoyed the remake. I mean until today that's the only movie I've ever known of that I could honestly say no one has ever claimed to like in my presence. You are the first. :)
That doesn't make you a bad or "wrong" person in any way. I'm just shocked that this finally happened. XD
-
Just playing this game is enough for someone to consider you toxic.
-
I love that Friday the 13th has really big, immersive maps. Loads of topography and height changes, actual woods, a lake, tons of indoor locations with loads of places to hide, etc. They're not very different from each other so DBD gets points for variety but for sheer "this feels like a real location and not a battle arena" I give the edge to F13. I just found the game boring after a while because Jason was so OP (understandable but still), I didn't like the griefers, and there was no real bot mode (other than playing as the OP character against victims who were even MORE unskilled).
-
My word...
At least the author had a lot of fun writing that.

The spirit became a killer thanks to her immense rage and hatred towards her dad. Without the angry faces she would lose a bit of her lore identity.
You're not wrong, I just think that a more sorrowful demeanor would make her feel more ghostly. Wandering spirits aren't typically associated with anger, they long for their life and / or loved ones, etc. The belligerent, vengeful spirit is the poltergeist which she doesn't quite fit.
I mean it's subjective, there's no reason why she can't be exactly how she is. I like the character a lot. I was just listing things that I feel would make her seem more like a ghost, a classic spirit.

Ooh, why didn't I think of this? The approaching presence of the most frightening creature in Monstrum can only be identified by the lights flickering when he's near. That really drills home the tension.

If we could unlock legendary skins by P3'ng (or even III-50) a character I'd be all for it. The bloody clothes really aren't much of a reward and the prices of cosmetics, especially legendary ones, are astronomical. They take either several hundred matches to buy or, if using cells, roughly the cost of the whole game itself. That's patently absurd.

Yeah I know, but you know how I meant it.
I don't make any scary treats or anything and just speaking my opinion.
And if they have a problem with it they can always talk to me about it or warn me about it.
But yeah they can do whatever they like which they have shown multiple times already.
And I'm not here to rally the community up against them, only to make a statement with everyone.
Cause that is the only way to get trough to them.
I do know how you meant it, but unfortunately how you meant it doesn't matter in the end. If you behave in a way that the mods deem unacceptable, you're liable to get banned. I don't want to see anyone get banned over this, that would just add extra negativity to an already negative situation, so I was just trying to let you know that even if your heart is in the right place (and I believe it is), you shouldn't take things far enough to make things even worse for yourself.
I'll say again that all of you guys are right. All of you who are upset with what's going on have every right to be. I just wish for everyone to relax a little and not let emotions blow the place up. Maybe it's the former moderator in me, I don't know. I just don't like seeing a community get so bent out of shape even if it IS for understandable reasons.

I think trickster is relegated to the Jar Jar Binks pit of forgotten despair.
I don't recall it ever happening and I'm happier for it.
LOL Jar Jar is a great comparison, as I myself don't accept that the Disney trilogy is canon. I legitimately just don't. It's poor fan fiction written by someone who had their own plans that were not those of the person who created the property to begin with. Just because they have a contract saying that they own it doesn't mean that I have to accept it as official. I wave off the Disney trilogy and I'm actually a much happier person for it.
I've tried to do the same with Trickster (to the extent of not even buying him, lol) but sadly I still face players who want to remind me of his miserable existence.
-
I won't say that anyone here doesn't have a right to be pissed, nor will I personally tell anyone to stop complaining. That said, I do wish that the forum in general would try to relax a little bit and give BHVR some time to work this out. I know that isn't fun and doesn't feel fair (and maybe it isn't, that's not for me to say) but being wound up about it isn't going to make the problems get fixed any faster, it's just going to keep everyone upset.
I'm not trying to be condescending because I've been here before (as obviously many of you have as well). It sucks. But at the moment there's nothing we can do. They're aware of all of these issues - VERY aware - you can bet that there are even more vocal people sending them reports and emails that would get people banned here - so really the best we can do is try to de-escalate and just accept that it's happened while waiting for a fix.

If they want to ban me for mentioning this than there is no stopping them any way.
As far as I know, we live in a free world and are allowed to express our concerns.
If that has to come to by not spending anymore money on the game till they get their sh1t together, that that's the way it has to be.
If they start banning people for telling them to fix their game before the community is spending money again, then they just show that they are like dictators where you can't tell the ugly truth.
And yes I remember that there was a certain coconut guy who got banned for telling the truth, it just shows how it works here.
Not to be nitpicky but this needs to be said because most people misunderstand it:
The concept of "freedom of speech", while varying between countries, generally means protection from the government making laws that restrict your right to express yourself (for example you can't be imprisoned for saying that you hate the president or worship Satan, etc). This not only has limits - you are NOT legally allowed to make violent or terroristic threats, for example - but it does not extend to private venues like this forum. This forum has its own rules and you and I and anyone else can be banned for whatever reason they see fit. Freedom of speech is not freedom to say whatever you want, wherever you want without consequences, it's the freedom to speak and share opinions without fear of your government arresting you for it.
-
The actress who played Jill in the OG (1996) Resident Evil is long gone. Last I checked either no one knew where she disappeared to, or someone DID find her (there are entire groups of people devoted to this kind of thing, which is frankly kind of creepy) and she was surprised that the game was anything special, it was just a short role for her and she moved on to whatever was next. Either way, no likeness rights there.
I don't recall what happened to the actress that modeled Jill for the RE1 remake (the brunette that was cute as a button) but for whatever reason Capcom canned her to hire the current actress which caused no small amount of controversy. I don't know the whole story there but my understanding is that the actress was very enthusiastic and proud of her role as Jill but Capcom felt that they needed some other person for the R3make. Bad call in my opinion, but that's just my opinion. Either way, again, no likeness rights there.
For there to be a RE1 skin (which I would like, I vastly prefer that professional look to the pointlessly sexy "Jill at the beach" tubetop thing she's got now) they'd have to use the current model to do it and I guess, for some reason or another, Capcom didn't want to do that.

Old ranking system was a laugh. Rank 1 to 10 got reset to rank 10 to 14 and rank 11-20 got reset to 15 - 20
I never really understood it either. Im sure someone explained it to me one time but i never remembered because it still didnt make a lot of sense.
LOL sounds about right.
The best (or really only) explanation I ever got was that pushing the ranks back each month somehow increased the sense of achievement. I mean, maybe? For some people I guess. All I can think about is the poor schmoe who's paired up with someone that will wipe the floor with him because the ranking system bounces around for no apparent reason.
