  • Pretty sure it starts on 6/25

  • I think it's partially because the bloodweb gets more and more cluttered every year, and I suspect they've tweaked the rate at which BPS spawn.

I recall there being fewer cakes during last year's anniversary event, so this may be a broad campaign on the devs part (along with reducing event rewards).

Why would they do this? I can't say. Or maybe it's my imagination lol.

  • I'd like to see all three to varying degrees. I'd like to see the Predator as a killer w/survs.

But for the other two, I am not in love with the idea of a necromorph or clicker as a killer; it just seems uninteresting. Killers should have their own personality/identity, not a generic member of a horde or something, imo.

Now having survs/skins from those IPs? Absolutely. That would be amazing.

  • It does suck (especially in the current hardware economy, thanks AI), but I am not sure what people expect here. If DBD were to go on for 15 -20 years, do you expect them to keep it in a playable state for hardware that was already aging when it launched? That's just not reasonable.

At some point in the near future some people are going to have to upgrade or move on; not every game can be Ultima Online lol

  • Certainly, the challenge that modern horror characters face is that they are all derivative. If Halloween were made today it wouldn't be as noteworthy because Myers would just blend into the sea of slashers, much as I feel Art does. And some other slasher would be the icon that Myers was.

But these old icons are iconic because they were pioneering. Pioneering as a horror character today is a massive task.

Maybe it's because I am old AF and have been jaded by voraciously consuming horror media for decades, but I don't think many people are going to remember Art the Clown in 30 years, at least on the pop cultural level the some of the 80's and 90's icons. To a subset of the horror community? Sure. On a broad level like Myers/Freddy/Jason are known today? No shot.

I think maybe we've seen the end the cultural phenomenon horror icon as a character; when I think of the best horror I've seen over the last 15-20 years, very few of them have a singular killer character as the most memorable aspect, and those that did weren't amazing.

  • NGL I can be super jaded and sometimes got exasperated with the cheerleading, but the positivity is priceless in a community of salty cynics, and all the updates and notifications are something I have always genuinely appreciated. I don't know how many codes I found out about due to Count.

Here's to hoping for a full and speedy recovery.

i would just say that dbd is also at its core just a slasher game. theres some lore slapped on the back end that youll never interact with or know about unless you specifically choose to go out of your way to read it and all the game is really just a slasher game. therefore art is literally perfect for dbd as he is a slasher.

i dont think adding more "lore complex" franchises is a benefit to dbd on that front because freddies lore is completely irrelevant to dbd. his only relevance to dbd is that he is there to slash people.

While someone like Pixel Bush might disagree with your dismissal of the value of lore in DBD, I would actually agree with all that, which is why I'm not mad about it.

I just personally would have preferred another IP, and don't can't remotely get on board with calling Art a horror icon.

But if he plays well, all will be good. At the very least it should lead to a god-tier mori(s)

  • I'm not mad about it per se, but hot take:

Terrifier is technically impressive gore porn with a generic clown mask thrown on it. I've seen the movies, and the practical effects are genuinely impressive and creative, but Art himself has all the personality of a mayonnaise sandwich. He's just a vehicle. That entire franchise is built on the kills, because there isn't anything else of note there.

    @dbd900bach said:

Anyone unhappy is just in denial about it not being Pennywise even though its pretty obvious that King won't make a deal.

Not really liking Art and being disappointed that Pennywise isn't coming can be mutually exclusive.

If people are huge Art the Clown fans, I'm happy for them, but I'd just have preferred this licensing opportunity were used on a number of other IPs and I personally never expected Pennywise and will continue not to.

  • I mean probably not; maybe technically it may remain playable on PS4, but functionally? Odds are not good.

At the risk of sounding insensitive, it's probably not realistic to expect to be able to play an evolving game over the course of 10+ years and have it remain fully playable on hardware that is generations old for the entire time.

And I can't imagine a Switch 1 not just melting in the attempt.

And some may note the DBD isn't exactly bleeding edge in its presentation (and it probably won't be even after the update), but BHVR aren't exactly top of the foodchain coders/optimizers, either. Not to offend anyone, but it's just the truth of the matter.

  • The old tome challenge system absolutely was more interesting and interactive. It also resulted in the frustration of being incentivized to throw matches and having your teammates constantly throwing matches every time a new tome dropped.

It is kind of looking through rose-colored glasses in that some people are remembering the upsides while forgetting the downsides, which were much more notable.

It was changed for a good reason; I'll take the boring challenge system that almost feels like it isn't there over the one that routinely ruins games and leads to players being irritated with each other (even more than they already are).

  • They seem to have intentionally kneecapped her to keep it from being a discussion point until they "fix" her, which will probably be in like 2032. I don't see them just reverting her, as that would be tantamount to admitted that they messed up.

I would move on until they address her properly.

  • I don't really experience a ton of toxic behavior, probably mostly because I have chat blocked and don't otherwise engage with anyone post-match, where is the really nasty stuff tends to happen. In game, I do get the occasional bleedout humper or smack-on-hooker, but I can't remember much particularly out of pocket. Of course, after 6K hours a lot of it just blurs together.

As for toxic things I have done, I feel like I am about as non-toxic as they come generally, but I do get a little spicy sometimes against teams that try to prevent hooking (sabo or otherwise) as their primary goal. I'll try to hook a few times but if it becomes apparent the teams' entire goal is to prevent hooks (more than even winning), I will usually turn it into a bleedout party, or single out who I perceive to be the best/ringleader and just keep them on the ground the whole time.

I think the worst case was against four sabo TTVs on Badham. They played the offering to spawn the basement at shack, were all running BO and Breakout, and wouldn't leave the basement at main. I was playing Trapper, too. After a lot of BS I ended up getting them all on the ground and trapped all the exits and if they tried to crawl out I'd pick up so they wiggled off and either ran into a trap or I downed them again, and I would carry them as long as possible to make sure the whole experience was as long and boring for them and their viewers as I possibly could.

I almost never get tilted, but I was having a day and reacted in a very petty way.

It was also the last nail in the "if I see more than 2 TTVs in lobby I dodge" coffin for me.

  • I mean it is a grind, but it absolutely pales in comparison to how bad it used to be (it was torturous). I feel like my perception of it is colored by that, and the fact that I already have everything else unlocked by the time something new comes out.

But for a new player coming in, the magnitude of it has to be completely overwhelming.

With the sheer volume of perks in the game now, perk tiers should absolutely be done away with, but people have been advocating that for years, and I doubt we'll see it happen. The game has long outgrown that mechanic, and the obstinance of the devs in making that obvious change is kind of baffling.

I don't really feel the BP cap is an issue any more, since they're easy to spend and you can go way over the cap when you get bonus BP and such. Back in the day when the cap was one million and you'd spend a third of your in-game time on the blood web it was much more of an issue.

But it also seems like in a lot of the events the BP/shard payouts and awards have gotten stingier, which is also pretty annoying.

Nea and Claudette would have been up there, you used to see them all the time

Yeah, it was right around the time I started playing DbD and it seemed like all you'd see were bunny Fengs, Blendettes, Neas, and Davids.

But it felt like at least a third of all survs were Fengs lol

It's not whataboutism when both actions are the same thing just for each side respectively: wasting time taking a victory lap. You can criticize survivors for stalling at an exit gate, but that would mean (unless you're a hypocrite) you would also be willing to criticize killers doing the same thing. I have a strong feeling the amount of cognitive dissonance would be palpable coming from the killer side.

Not answering a question and instead immediately countering with another unrelated scenario is the very definition of whataboutism.

Believe it or not we can respond to questions like these without reflexively rattling off something the other side does and just say it's because have a tiny e-dong and be done with it

    1. non-argument. Slugging for the 4K happens way more often than just Adepts.
    2. The Killer still won the game. That the Survivor MIGHT get a pity escape does not change that at all. Even when Hatch spawns, the Survivor is at a disadvantage in finding it, since they move slower than the Killer and have to hide. They can basically only get lucky.

I just dont understand why people need to prolong a game where they clearly won. Nobody will debate that a 3K with not all Gens done and a Hatch Escape would be a clear win for the Killer. Yet Killers like to waste everyones time by slugging for the 4K while the Survivors have no way to actually speed this up (the last part is important, before someone comes up with "Yeah, but what is with Survivors waiting at the Exit Gate"…).

    @Topic:

At the very least the Survivor on the ground should be able to abandon in a 2v1. This would allow the Killer to slug for the 4K while wasting only the time of one person instead of 2.

In general it is sad that at this point the best way to play the game is to be the antimate.

Yeah, agreed on pretty much all of this. I really don't get slugging for the 4K. That desperate thirsting after that 4th K in a game that has been decided is pure TDE in the like 99% of matches where the killer isn't trying for an adept. Back in the day you'd see it when there was a sacrifice all survs in a match tome challenge, but those aren't a thing anymore.

There simply isn't a good reason for it anymore, imo. I know that to me my own time is more valuable than my need for whatever validation that 4th K might bring. I have thousands of hours in killer, and 99.9999% of the time when two are dead and I down the third, I just immediately pick up if the fourth isn't in my line of sight.

This really encapsulates the ego validation some people need:

"2. Once again. Killer won a game. How is that fair that one surv gets to escape? With ZERO effort, in a LOST game, you might even get hatch spawn under your legs. Answer THAT question."

YOU ALREADY WON. Hatch doesn't count as an escape. You just can't abide the idea that a surv got to leave that match not on your terms. It's sad.

And I like your solution, but I might make it so if you are the slugged surv in this scenario, you can abandon if you aren't picked up within short window (say 20-30 seconds) and another chase isn't initiated. This gives the killer an opportunity to get a nearby surv, but prevents it from becoming a minutes long waste of everyone's time.

  • I agree that the passive quests are really non-interactive and boring, for sure.

But I'd still take them over the chaos of my teammates (and me, really) essentially throwing to get weird stuff done every time a new tome came out.

If they did bring it back, they'd have to do it more thoughtfully.

  • My initial advice to someone just getting into DbD? Reconsider this decision for your own good.

    run away.gif

But really, it would be to tell them to avoid taking the game seriously. If you don't, you're going to be miserable; either personally or toward others, probably both. Not giving a crap is the key enjoying DbD.

  • @Drunkenmunky said:

Killers tend to draw specific personality types. This is reflected in their play styles.

    1. Wraith: Zero skill try hard trash
    2. Cannibal/Twins: slug slug slug senora, slug it all the time, camp camp camp senora, camp it all the time
    3. Ghoul: Pay to win
    4. Clown/Houndmaster: Proxy camp champs, I mean chumps
5: Springtrap: All of the above plus door camp exploit
6: Onryo: Specifically, those that just teleport as much as possible to get free kills

Irritational killers: Unknown, Singularity, Vecna 1, Nightmare: Their powers are more irritating than fun. I acknowledge they take some skill but it's just boring to play against if they are good.

I mostly dislike playstyles rather than killers. Those who just use a killer and build to never lose irritate me the most.

I don't expect to win as survivor but I want a F$%^&* chance. I never expect a 4k as killer cuz I consider it a learning experience.
Those who just expect the outcome are the problem.

As someone with amount of Onryo playtime (mine is around P50), I can say that there isn't anything free about kills for her, unless the survs just have no idea what they're doing. She's a noobstomper for sure, but against players who know how to deal with her, you have to fight for your life and condemned kills are relatively rare.

  • Maybe not currently, but that's not really the point I was trying to make. It's that he's a largely ignored, boring, soulless, feelble imitation of one of modern horror's greatest icons.

  • A lot of people confuse their getting sick of/burnt out on the game for it "dying".

It's not dying. People get sick of it and leave, others come in, nothing really changes.

Its day will come, but that day isn't today,

  • @OmegaXII said:

Honestly, I think you should ask why there isn't any sound QoL update for Spirit players.

Currently to track survivors, you need to turn up the volume, which makes the blasting chase music, screams, and explosive notification ABSOLUTELY NIGHTMARE.

That's why I stopped being a Spirit main few months ago, because I really don't want to go deaf because of a video game.

I had to quit Spirit after hundreds of hours maining her because I am half deaf (totally in one ear) and I always had a hard time tracking with audio, and making the phasing sound directional pretty much killed my ability to make prediction hits, which was pretty much what I was relying on.

I'll still play match with her here and there, but I am essentially playing with both hands tied, or one hand tied if I am using the cherry blossom.

I could probably mitigate this by doing a custom audio setup and cranking the volume, but it's just not worth the effort, and I am a big proponent of playing the game in its default state.

As for the OP, it sucks, but what can BHVR do? As has been pointed out, they have no way to police this at all.

  • Now for some downvote generating takes of my own:

    1. You, yes you (whoever you may be) - your MMR isn't as high as you think it is. No one is facing top tier talent in every match.
    2. The DC penalties should be turned…up.
    3. Being "good" at DbD is like 90% learning how to use the game's bad design to your advantage and carry perks. And like 10% mechanical/transferable vg "skill" (unless you consider knowledge to be skill, it which case okay I guess)
    4. If you don't play something approximating a 50/50 killer/surv split, you should recuse yourself from balance discussion
    5. The game is actually easily the most balanced it has ever been
    6. But it will never be totally balanced
    7. People would do well to accept (for their own sanity) that we vets are the minority, and BHVR will always balance for casuals. Balancing for high MMR would kill the game dead.
    8. The poor balance and useless SBMM makes "winning" largely meaningless.
    9. Losing is in fact not the end of the world. Relax, and have fun.
    10. You're not being tunneled in almost all of your matches. Stop it.
    11. Also not every team that stomps you is a SWF.
    12. Solo queue is not a gulag where you're doomed to lose 90% of the time. Sometimes it's just you, and that's okay.

Thanks for the warning. I might have been triggered otherwise.

    My unpopular opinions:

    • People should stop discussing balance around perfect play.
    • Windows is extremely powerful, yes, but it's so useful for the transition of absolute novice to capable of the basics of the game, that nerfing it would be bad for the game as a whole. I'm saying this as someone that has dropped Windows from all my builds now.
    • Wesker feels like crap to play, as does any killer whose main skill floor is fighting against terrible controls and map collision. (Billy, looking at you.)
    • The game is more fun when players are inefficient and sloppy on both sides.
    • Play to win and nothing else is unenjoyable.
    • Autodiadact is actually good.
    • Neither role is easy, and it's apples to oranges to try and dictate which is harder.

I'm sure I have more but I can't think of them at present.

The game is more fun when players are inefficient and sloppy on both sides.
Play to win and nothing else is unenjoyable.

    Yes, this.

"Optimally" played DBD is the worst version of DBD. It's effective, but also tedious and predictable. It's why "comp" DbD is such an unbearable snoozefest to watch.

I always have the most fun when people do things are totally out of pocket and/or stupid because after so much time in game, you can almost script what good players will do. It's just not fun.

I love the moments of "######### was that? What were they thinking?" and literally lol'ing.

  • @KerJuice said:

Nurse. There is absolutely nothing you can do against a good Nurse. Breaking line of sight only delays the inevitable, and it's not even much of a delay. Same as edge map. Good Nurses have evolved to recognizing those two little glimmers of hope almost immediately, and will adjust by walking you down. Then you get stepped on with a baby blink. And don't even get me started on playing unpredictably and/or erratic. Not even I know my next move but it's still a hit. Double back? Hit. Try to 360? Hit. Fake vault? Hit. Vault? Hit. Teammate tries to body block? Get cut off and get hit from the front or side. Lose line of sight? Still a hit but 5 seconds later than usual. Purposely stand still out of desperation to "throw her off?" Hit. Run in a straight line as to be unpredictable? Hit. Fake the double-back? Hit. Zig zag? Hit. The reason for this is because a good Nurse will position her blinks to cover all of your available options.

There's a reason why she's banned in competition at the highest level of DBD players.

Yeah, as has been said in the past, all you can really do against a good Nurse is choose a direction to die in.

But for me the answer is Ghoul, due his rock bottom skill floor, and the fact that there's so many people playing him. The saturation is what puts him over the top for me.

  • Freddy, without question. Robert Englund/Wes Craven's iteration is the real Freddy, what we have is D-Tier Sharp Hand Joe

Myers is also disappointing in that he is so weak, but doesn't feel like an affront to the OG in the way Freddy does.

Its because they've been coddled by handholding mechanics and balance the game around the worst players. If they would just listen to their vet players, and balance the game around high mmr like every other game out there, the bad players would be forced to get better

This will never happen. Bad/new/casual players are where the money is.

  • I heard somewhere the name Crystal Lake can be used so long as it isn't called Camp Crystal Lake. No idea if accurate, but seems on point for stupid licensing minutiae to me

  • As far as killers go, the only one left that is a "heavy hitter" to me is Pennywise. Jason and Pennywise were really the last two, imo (though the real Freddy, Robert Englund, would make me ecstatic).

There are lots of great killers left out there, but not really any I would call iconic in terms of their pop culture presence.

Predator would be a huge get, and think would fit in the game fine, but I never really thought of it as a horror icon.

On the surv side Mulder and Scully would be a dream addition. The X-Files are among my top 3 favorite tv/film IP ever, and I think I would immediately become a Scully main.

Unless of course we got the Sigourney Weaver version of Ripley.

The Trapper 2.0 is uttered by anyone who is going heavily off of "Trapper is a stand-in for Jason", while knowing next to nothing about the actual films.

In the entire original franchise, Jason hasn't ever actuallty set a trap. The reboot 2009 Jason set one trap. Jason is not even remotely close to a trap adjecent killer. I really feel like the people reducing Jason to just a guy with a machete severally lack any sort of creativity.

Yeah, if Jason were to be thought of anything it should be inventive and varied killing methodologies. He is (at least in the movies) so much more than a dude with a machete. I just hope that can be translated into the game.

And I am thinking maybe the now infamous shed will be a feature that appears on all maps when he is the killer, and he can choose from the weapons within. Or at least serve some purpose.

Completely agree, it's wild how much aura read there is and no indicator survivor side so they can react. Like even OW has Widow announce she's wallhacking so people can react accordingly.

"Completely agree, it's wild how much aura read there is and no indicator survivor side so they can react."

As the aura reading meta was really taking off and before it was nerfed, I ran Distortion not to be hidden or play like a rat, but because I used it to quickly suss out which aura reading perks the killer was running. Once you know, you can adjust how you play the rest of the match.

I mean you figure it out with no help (and I just assume Lethal in every match), but if you have a Blight/Ghoul/etc. running multiple aura perks, the game is gonna be over at that point.

I just miss the old days when killers used game knowledge, meta gameplay, sound, and environmental clues to find survs.

Yeah, after living through the old DH/DS/IW/MoM era, the worst the surv side throws at you seems tame. OG DH stands alone atop the pantheon of busted BS perks.

From the surv side, it's Lethal + whatever other aura perks (there are like a million to choose from now). It's not that I play stealth or anything, it's that killers don't have to work/think to find/track you anymore. Especially if they're high mobility killers like Blight, just having a near constant location feed takes a lot of the fun/skill out of it.

I think at the end of the day it comes down to experience; 325 hours is a ton in most games, but it's nothing in DBD. And you have to get into chases, even though you're going to die. A lot. Don't be afraid to lose, and try not to get discouraged when SBMM feeds you into a meat grinder.

This whole excercise feels like people taking what they want it to be and projecting it onto what's given. "How can I make this set of numbers into a 13!"

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4080104#Comment_4080104

Because it doesn't pass the vibe check. I don't want a regular animal chasing people around. It's goofy. And Jurassic World is a gross, corporate option, just like SW.

I agree, but I thought even the Jason/13 stuff was way more compelling than the Pennywise stuff. It just seems like a total nothingburger.

Also on the dino subject, I agree. I don't think a killer should be a member of a collective or an animal without a distinct personality. I even feel that way about the Xenomorph, and I'm a massive Alien(s) fan.

Killers should be unique/distinct characters, and that's setting aside the obvious licensing cash grab implication.

  • People always say Nurse and Legion (for good reason), but imo the issue there is that you can't meaningfully rework them without just full on reinventing their power. Like back to the drawing board type stuff, because they are fundamentally broken.

And that sounds fine to me, but you pretty much risk alienating all the players who have mained them for years. Like Skull Merchant, exept there are people who actually care about Nurse and Legion.*

Which brings me to my answer, which is Skull Merchant. Because she is all but a dead killer, they can get away with a total reinvention. I am disappointed they seemingly abandoned their proposed overhaul; not because I liked it particularly, but because the way they have left her is just another useless half measure.

If you're gonna do it, do it.

Other candidates for me would be Ghostface and Sadako, the latter in particular, because I think she's only a tweak or two from being good. And Ghostface's reveal mechanic is a joke.

*I am partially joking, I know trash canning Skully has been rough for her mains, but the reality is that there just aren't many of you.

Indifference is how I'll feel but as long it isn't Vader or a dinosaur I'll be all right with just about anything.

The trailer didn't give me Pennywise energy at all though. The imagery involved a lot of fractured self stuff. Different reflections in broken glass and multiple shadows, as well as disappearing and reappearing headphones and glasses.

Yeah, I was excited when saw a vid saying the trailer indicated Pennywise, but I didn't get that from it at all. Hope I am wrong, but I think it's a whole lot of hopefully grasping at straws.

  • I only lobby dodge on very rare occasion (only when the number of TTVs is > 2, because that's invariably gonna be a total nonsense match), but as someone who plays both sides pretty equally, I can say in my experience it is absolutely a both sides issue.

I'll often see survs popping in and out of lobby like it's a whack-a-mole game. It's very common, and the games are often just terrible as a result. I think there is a distinct correlation between the stability of the lobby pregame and the quality of the match.

  • I find this funny as I rarely pay any attention to who I am playing against from match to match, unless someone is really memorable. I just queue and go. Over almost seven years I think I could count the players who repeatedly made my life difficult in game on one hand.

But to echo others here, a system like this would lead to many people just blacklisting anyone who they lose to or rubs them the wrong way. People are either too impulsive and/or too pathologically butthurt over losing to be trusted with a feature like this.

And to those who want to be able to block teammates who pissed them off because they were bad, know at some point you will be the annoying/bad teammate who got blocked. No one is on their game all the time, and survs love to blame teammates for losing. Extrapolate this over the whole game, and you'd have so many blocked people that matchmaking would bog down.

It's been suggested that you'd have to limit the "do not play with/against" list to mitigate this, but even then I don't know if this game's already tenuous matchmaking system could bear it.

  • Jason, for sure. If for no other reason than he's on he mount rushmore of killers and it just feels wrong that he's not in DbD.

Pennywise is a close second for me, though as a character, number one.

Candyman is also on my personal wish list. Also the real Freddy. M3gan would also be fun, as would an original Wendigo killer.

I'm a huge X-Files fan and there are a few "monsters of the week" I would like to see ("Flukeman", Tooms, Pincus (the insect monster)), but I know none of them have the juice to make it into the game (Mulder and Scully as survs are a dream of mine, though).

Semi-related, I'd be surprised if the Twins weren't at least partially inspired by the killer from S2E20, but I digress

One thing I'm not in love with is are killers that aren't distinct or part of a collective (like the xeno, even as a huge Alien(s) fan). I think that killers in DBD should be a unique individual and not just one of many. Just my opinion.

And not to offend, but I don't get the Art the Clown love. The star of those movies was the inventive kills and practical effects, and Art was just a vehicle for them. Not an ounce of personality, imo.

My TV has one of these built-in so would be crazy if someone got banned for a thing many have by default.

It would be, but I wouldn't risk using any sort of third party anything, personally.

But yeah, on the spectrum of "is it cheating?", crosshairs are way out on the mild end. I mean stuff like ReShade is is miles more dodgy than an crosshair an it is allowed. But again, I'm not adding anything to my game file, even if it's benign as can be,

The problem I consistently see is this: very good Nurses and Blights win, but bad Nurses and Blights lose; bad Ghouls will still win. Powerful killers should also be at least kinda challenging to play, but even if the player is bad at looping, the mobility makes them able to constantly be on top of someone or in a new chase. Toning down the ability would be nice.

He is also annoying and tremendously unfun to play against.

This is pretty much it; he's not OP, but he's strong, has a very low skill floor. You can be a totally mid player but still able to be really annoying with his mobility and auto aim. As you imply, at least Nurse and Blight have something approximating a skill floor.

Ghoul is just plug and play.

Exacerbating things is that Ghoul is also really fun to play as, so you see tons of them. I can't really blame people for playing Ghoul so much, I just wish they wouldn't lol

I won't DC like a baby against Ghoul or anything, but ngl I do just kinda tune out most of the time when I hear his TR. It's just tedious.

i dont like ace because of his smile lmao

shoutout to all the ace enjoyers out there im sure you love your silent man but couldnt be me

It's funny, I was just about to say the same thing. I hate him because his face, mostly just his dumb smirk. He's like an insufferable, smarmy lounge lizard and I can't stand him.

I also agree with OP on Freddy; it's an icon of my childhood stripped of all his personality and made to look boring and generic. I actually resent this version of Freddy; it's like he is mocking me with what he should have been every time I see him.

  • I'm someone who has had chat turned off for years, but one benefit of making the filter toggleable is that you could more effectively report people and get them banned lol

But I am kind of in favor of making it optional because I have seen on Twitch/YT where the most benign stuff gets filtered and people think others are being nasty when they aren't. But that's the only legit reason, imo.

If the filter keeps a person from expressing themselves, at best that's a linguistic/interpersonal communication skill issue, and at worst that's a good reason to keep them muzzled.

I've always said they need to overhaul the post-game thumbs up system. Surely it's not hard to do. Have it give 'reputation' or 'good sportsmanship' points that, at monthly reset, give something extra like shards or a bp boost. If you get enough points maybe you can get a special badge. It won't solve the problem of bad sportsmanship or bad manners, but I guarantee you'll probably see less instances of it.

It is true that positive reinforcement of good behavior is much more effective than punishment of bad behavior when it comes to modification, but people are also more motivated to act on negative feelings than positive (i.e. use the post game system to be negative than give a thimbs up).

Still, I think your idea has some merit. That said, think you'd need to separate it from the existing system, like have one for reporting and a separate mechanic for giving kudos for good behavior, one the has only a "thumbs up" option. Especially if there is a karma ranking/reward attached. If you have a karma-type system with up and down voting, people will spam the negative one just because.

Like we've seen with the downvote since it was added here on the forum.

The AoT collab in general was such a disappointment to me.

The music is good don't get me wrong, but the skins themselves are really underwhelming. I hate how they're just cosplays of the AoT characters, not the actual real characters. Some like Mikassa and Annie look pretty decent, but then you have others like Levi and Armin who just look terrible. Then of course you have the killer skins which don't come with any new animations, voice lines, sound effects, or mori's.

Either we should have gotten actual legendary skins of the AoT characters, or if they wanted to stick to just cosplays then there's no excuse not to add more of the cast.

To your point, it is pretty funny seeing the Attack Titan walking around setting up bear traps, though I actually do like playing Trapper. Unfortunately I'm almost certainly not going to buy this skin if it doesn't come with any of the things I listed above.

The Hange skin for Zarina is the best one, imo. The Mikasa/Annie ones are okay, and the rest outside of the Armored Titan just range from meh to bad.

Of course even as a big AoT fan I have always thought it was a weird fit for a collab overall.

Well i think they try to please both sides at the same time, which doesn't work. The only thing that keeps a round feeling casual, is if the killer decides to keep the rulebook gloves on, or the survivors aren't a fully loaded swat/bully squad with discord. If any of those 2 things change the match turns "sweaty" which is just a casuals term for competitive as the 2 don't get along. (Not to say a match can't turn competitive at any moment)

If they add stuff for casual, the competitives abuse it, if they add stuff for competitives, the casuals suffer from it. So we are just stuck a mixed bag that can't decide what to be lol. But most of the killers lately tend to be for competitives. Whereas the last casual we got was springtrap.

Yeah, this is it. They try to please everyone and as a result please almost no one.

But they make their money on the casuals who pick the game up, spend some money, and then move on after a year or two, so they don't really pay for this poor approach in the way that they should.

Real veterans of the game aren't where the money is, as they've gotten most of what they're going to get from us already (the exception being the content creators out there showcasing the game).

But the game is too imbalanced and riddled with exploitable design flaws to be a truly comp game. But at the end of the day it's really the sweatlord players who keep the "comp" thing going; the devs are just trying to milk them.

I think there are probably a lot of factors that go into which characters get new skins and/or high-effort high-resource skins. I don't think it just goes in one direction — I think there's a loop where we like characters like Meg, Kate, Feng Min, Yun Jin, and then BHVR is like, "I bet they'll like Sable," and they put a bunch of effort into making good cosmetics for Sable, and we do like Sable and we buy her good cosmetics and it further reinforces the loop.

They aren't really trying that hard to convince us of what's sexy and cool about Haddie and Jeff.

I also don't think the loop is random — it's part of a larger culture where we're used to thinking that the way clothes look best is when they're draped on one particular body type, and so if no one is deliberately trying to steer out of that, that's what we all steer into.

I actually do think BHVR puts effort into making lore-accurate outfits for a lot of the characters, but it's almost like that's treated as a completely separate exercise from making something people will want to buy.

Yeah, they know what they're doing here, and it's mostly about money and how predictable people are. Sable is a great example of this; you don't need to be a marketing genius to know that she was gonna be popular and get a bunch of cosmetics queued up for her.

But I also think it is kind of a self-propagating thing; many people do choose/stick with certain characters because they have a ton of available cosmetics and avoid characters that don't. Then the characters that don't get cosmetics because they are less popular stay unpopular because they don't get cosmetics.

Haddie is a great example; she came out of the chute with few cosmetics and never really caught on at least in part because of that, even though she's a unique character plucked out of the lore (Haddie is probably my 1a surv so I am biased, but I think your other example, Jeff, has been treated even worse). But certain characters do get more support at their launch than others, and it's obviously due to who they predict will be popular.

And you're spot on about the body type thing. You don't have to tax your brain too hard to notice the pattern of giving certain kinds of outfits to certain types of characters and not to others, and how that reinforces the way we look at them, and in a negative way that reinforces body image issues, but that's almost a separate discussion.

My question is if you're not going to set up a character for success, why bother at all? I mean why waste the labor creating characters just to let them rot from the outset?

And you're also right that they do put out the occasional amazing lore accurate cosmetic for even the neglected characters, but it only serves to highlight how neglected they are, like "wow what an amazing outfit for that character I almost forgot existed".

”I honestly feel bad for some characters such as David, Gabriel, Jonah, Haddie, Renato, Thalita, Vittorio, even the new ones, Vee and Orella…”

It was actually worse before. Back then in the store you could see how many cosmetic pieces every character had and for characters like Adam or Elodie, they had like 30 or 40 and then you saw characters like Feng or Meg with 90+. And I remember mikela had more than Adam Jeff or elodie and those characters came out like 3 or 4 years prior

Yeah, it used to be so much worse; it was a joke how many cosmetics a select few characters got (FENG) compared to others, and every match seemed to have 2-3 Fengs in it. The money motivation was not hard to see.

Now I think Feng has been supplanted by Sable as the "cute" surv like half of people seem to main. But I think we notice it less because with the larger roster there are more "favored" characters, but the dynamic is still the same.

I try to speak with my wallet as best I can (for the little good it'll do); I almost never spend actual money on cosmetics, and when I do it's on characters who don't get as many and I would like to see more (like I will buy every Haddie outfit on day 1 even if I'm not crazy about it). The rest I will wait until I can buy them with iri shards.

    Except licensed characters, obvs.
