I'm talking about the color change. I know that they've made changes and that it's no longer rank, but "grade" instead. I read the patch notes. I'm talking about what the point was of changing the color.
I think leaving it the same would lead people to believe it's unchanged. I think it's really too similar, still. I'm not sure how I would better differentiate a new system, but I suppose it works OK. I think calling a rank 'ash' is weird. They could have just went bronze - silver - gold - iri.
-
Ranks no longer exist.
They have become grades. This is in the developer notes.
Your matchmaking, as of tomorrow, won't be related to your grade. Your reward at the end of each month (13th), will be bloodpoints related to where you've gotten in the grading and then it will reset back all the way to the bottom.
-
Please read the developer notes.
SBMMR is NOT linked to grades. Grades replaced ranks. Yes, it will be harder to move down in grade, but it's a completely different system.
-
@KolbyKolbyKolby said:
Your grade doesn't have anything to do with your MMR, it's just an indication of how much you've played that month.
Surprising how many people just aren't catching this change.
-
I think maybe it became a point of contention because of all the internet memes and maybe the licensor was unhappy. Maybe it wasn't even specifically contractual to use a 'changed' line (I instead of we), or maybe they didn't even license using actual voice lines.. So the licensor is pissed so they removed it.
I'm on the fence. I don't like the killers that laugh or talk generally and almost anything that's triggered by actions in a game "barks" in some games; gets so tiring. My wife wants to main Pinhead, her first real desire to main a killer, so I'll be interested to see if she dislikes this enough to pass on it.
-
@TacitusKilgore said:
Thats a bit of a shame, i was hoping i could start adjusting my SBMM for pinhead so he isn't too much of a pain to play.
I believe it's using stats collected whether it's on or not, so what you play today would still contribute, I think.

Just stick (look) up and down quickly.

Nah, it's too good to pass up:
- BHVR will remove the possibility of reaching rank 1 before you can actually make it to rank 1.

Shhh, just let it happen :D
-
So what about the weird gap?If grades are released today to replace ranks... Will everyone be bottom grade ash? If so, will we all reset on the 13th? Will we continue to have ranks until the 13th and then grades wills start?
I wonder...

This is very sad.
There are other games and activities. It sounds like you really hate this game and maybe something else would be better for your overall outlook?

They won't activate on unhook if you hold crouch lol, straight up. You can still interact with whatever you want, heal, repair, unhook, cleanse totems, it's specifically running/sprinting next to a trap that sets it off.
Tell that to the people I'm unhooking. I crouch up to them, unhook them and they jump down and run through all the traps.
-
Strange, it seems to me they are addressing most of the requests I've seen based on the PTB. I'm willing to wait and see and not worry about what arm-chair quarterbacks have to say.

And would there be a random chance of being matched far above your skill level? What's the downside?
Why would I, as a hypothetical noob-stomping bully, not want the chance, however small, of being paired up with noobs?
Why would an option that allows newbies to get paired with terribly over-skilled opponents be a desirable system to implement?
SOunds a little exagerated. I'd assume this would be a slightly less experienced/rated "other side". What I'd project, if I was designing, is if you 'won' against another team/killer at this rating, it would soft-disable for the next match so you'd have a more powerful opposition, etc.
The whole issue with SBMM is that people are not happy actually being put up against teams/killers that the system deems as a reasonable opposition and calling them 'eternally sweaty'. I'm never going to be that person, I'm fine with SBMM because it works well for me, but obviously, there's a lot of people that are panicking about it.

A toggle that would expand your MMR range, but only downward? That would be abused by everyone to attempt to getting lower ranked opponents, and thus, noob-stomp.
But it could be random. Sometimes it would work and other times it wouldn't. It's also what I imagine for the 'I'm at the top and can't play sweaty matches all the time' solution - occasionally give that player an easier match to shut them up.
-
What about a 'casual preferred' check box that tried to give you a more casual experience but... it might or might not :D

How long is it taking you to delete traps lol, any loop that's trapped is nearly instantly safe
Well, when there's like 6 around a hook and then you unhook.... But, truth be told, I don't bring flashlights a lot anyway, so my ire mostly comes from having to squat past traps and then having them activate on unhook.

Yeah I'm not saying one is way better or worse, I'm just saying they have different strengths and it's not a straight forward comparison. I strongly think that commonly available items shouldn't straight up remove/counter killer powers. It feels especially bad on killers that have to waste time "setting up" their power just to have it all gone in just a couple seconds.
I'd be OK with it if the hag maxed at say, 5 traps. But as it stands, they can put so many traps that it ends up not mattering. You'd spend so much time nullifying them that they become a delaying tactic for, let's say, unhooking.
-
@Raihje said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2470520#Comment_2470520
Lol that's a good way to lose as Hag, basically the same thing as face camping. Set a wide net and try to herd survivors. Trapper has their own tools so it's not a totally fair comparison with Hag because his traps can't just be flashlighted, crouched over, or set off on purpose mid-chase/carry by the half dozen. His traps also injure for you, no cooldown, no chase, just immediately injured AND immobilized if they didn't disarm it or dead hard over it. The downside is he can't carry 10 at a time and has to pick them up in the level.
Right, but I still see those as disadvantages... But sure, you do get trapped by trapper traps (did I just type that??), so sure, that's an advantage. But hag just seems way better as a 'trap killer'. And teleporting to the traps that you set off during chase seems at least just as useful as immobilizing the survivor with trapper traps...

Unfortunately Hag is just Hag.
Very unfun to face and play as imo. She's either really good and every chase is frustrating because you set off random traps or she's trash and camps.
Practically speaking, usually the hags I go against just cluster traps around hooks and occasionally generators. they have so many traps and don't even have to gather them or anything. I again mention that trapper is only really a ######### hag. Hag has more traps. Hag doesn't have to pick up traps. Hag can teleport to traps. How is trapper even viable with hag as another killer? Can anyone tell me any advantage of playing trapper over playing hag? I think that hag traps should be even easier to defuse.
-
@CashelP14 said:
Items and perks disabling a killers power is dumb, but so is Hag so I hope they change nothing.
I just don't understand how hag has so many traps with such a large radius PLUS teleporting. Poor trapper is just bargain basement hag.

Of course, if I'm cherry picking matches that make me look godlike and they're harder to come across or not happening, I'm going to want to stop the process causing that...

@TAG said:
Sounds to me like the game has "fun" issues at the high end if that's the case.
Feels to me a little bit more like there's people that only have fun dominating and it's defined as 'sweating' when the majority or all matches are against good skill players on the other side. There's a huge rate of bragging in this community about how they're all 'dominating' or whatever against the other side. I'm getting the distinct impression that's all been a function of the ranked matchmaking not working that great and now, the MMR system is actually pitting the top of each side against each other and they don't like it. They want some matches where they can lord it over the other side and win!
I never get above mid ranks because I love things like rescuing people after EGC and dying, even though they escape. I'm also ######### at chase, often running right into the killer all on my own and getting downed. I'm fine with it.
All this MMR contention really feels like people whining that they at once want to be perceived as the best player but also, please don't make me play against the best players on the other side.

We also have this day off as Labour Day here in Canada. At least, in Ontario.

@Aneurysm said:

It's definitely not 99% of the community who are against it. People have done polls and it's usually around 50/50
My observation is that it's the top ranked people who don't want it. Since I play middle ranks, and had a better time when MMR was on, I'm all for it. No, I didn't win all the matches with MMR on, but they were qualitatively more enjoyable matches that didn't feel like a landslide in either direction. I can always tell when I'm against a red rank killer, and I'm not up to it.
Honestly, I can see the complaint that is being made. Playing at the highest skill levels doesn't give you a break, you're always against other players at the highest skill levels. Most of your losses or disappointments will go to RNG or bad luck or connection issues. I'm not sure how the developers address that. If you really are the best in your role, shouldn't you go against the best at the other role? If they let you go against much lower ranked enemies, you're just going to easily beat them, so how is that fun?
-
I often switch at the last second because... I was doing something on another character and didn't want to actually play that one, just doing bloodweb or whatever...
But mostly wanted to post this image. "RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!!!"
-
I swear, it's nothing but slugging killers ad nauseum until you build for it.. Add any slugging perks and then suddenly, every killer is picking you as fast as possible.

@DBDRewardsBdBehavior said:
@Sypherpathic Killers act the same way tho. When they don't like the map, get looped, gens pop quickly, they get their feelings hurt, or SWF.
Sure, and both are wrong. I try to play no matter what transpires. Sometimes I really don't want the map or killer or whatever, but one has to persevere. It's frustrating when anyone DC's before the match finishes. Don't do it.
-
@EvilJoshy said:
And people wonder why there is a DC penalty. Someone quits and ruins the game for 4 other people. Why shouldn't they be punished?
Because in their infantilism, they shouldn't have to deal with ... whatever. A killer who like, hooks people.. or the wrong map.. or the wrong killer.. or it's Tuesday... or they have the wrong sauce from Mommy for their chicken nuggies for dinner.
-
Interesting to hear you say this. My wife can't stop wanting to play. I am more than ready to move on as we've played about a half dozen games that are more appealing to me. In any case, we were playing last night and when we finished, she said, "If only they were more imaginative". We've been talking on and off the last couple of days about how survivors could have been more individual if they had their own default abilities/skills for individual survivors rather than just being skins with all the same perks. But what she said hit home.
It's been a while where everything that comes out kind of fits inside the same box. Even when it dips outside, like the cages-instead-of-hooks with Pyramid Head, it just kind of fades into the background and doesn't upset the meta, which is disappointing.
The game is fun if you're dedicated to it but frankly, it's stagnating. It will cause disruption and will cause dedicated users to leave, but the meta needs a huge upset to keep things engaging.

Guess I should just play better next time
Yep, this is how it used to work but killer mains, in their desire to slander the new way that pallet stuns work, would say that we should go back to this. Even at it's least, it's pissing off 4/5 players as it's all crap to survivors, but we dealt with it for how long?
Killer mains, you have to ask, is this really more fair than what's happening currently?

at 12 ping? buddy i should be the one cheering for this because i am always at a disadvantage when i play survivor, sadly i also play killer and it is bs. I should never get validated with my ping because my info should always reach it first.
Is it rare that i hey a hit validation? Yes. But when i do it is usually against a console user with 60+ ping, just like aim dressing pulling me into corners and window frames mostly against console users.
Your perspective is a little skewed here. I mean, sure, hits go to the higher ping. Isn't that provided that the actions are initiated at the exact same instant? So there's still a window where, if I'm the survivor you're pursuing, and I throw down the pallet, and then you don't swing for a certain number of (probably milliseconds), I will still 'win' the stun because I just did the action sooner, regardless of ping? I've seen video of pallets being thrown and survivors being stunned because the killer swung before the server determined the pallet was halfway down. That seems pretty fair to me.
I agree that what was happening before felt very unfair to survivors who would literally end up on the ground 20' from a pallet despite having dropped it and run, then getting hit and downed. I tend to play less killer and I'm at the bottom tier, so my experience maybe won't matter to some, but the pallets seem OK to me as killer. I also tend not to try to get a hit right at pallets, though. A lot of times I'm assessing if I should just circle the short end of whatever loop to take less time than a pallet break.

I wish BHVR would care for the players like farmers care for crops
I maybe tipped the metaphor too far there - we're wheat or corn to be harvested, sheep to be sheared...
Ultimately, I think the decision to help PS4 and Xbox One players will hinge on how much revenue is being lost by doing so or not doing so.
I've been through a few of these in the past. Essentially, it's feeling exactly like it's not profitable to make any patch changes to support us 'last gen' console players. The shiny marketing dollars are coming in, apparently, from the 'next gen' console players.
-
Judging by Stranger Things, which it seems you are reacting to, I would guess that typically there's a contract for a certain amount of time. I'd assume a year or two. It would be weird, I would think, to have a contract for just a few months... But what do I know :D
-
Traditionally, fire effects are absolutely monstrous for performance. I hope not, given the track record here....
-
Yes.
I hate running into it, but there are lots of things in the game that I hate as survivor and killer. You play through, learn, adapt and try to have more fun next time.
-
I think it should be the classic "it's the journey, not the destination".
Survivors should get rewarded for their participation in the trial. Unhooks, healing, generators, totems, chases, (escape).
Killers should get rewarded for their participation in the trial. Prolonging the hope and torture of the survivors. I think there should be a tremendous bonus for 'death hooking' each survivor after ALL survivors are on second hook. Therein lies the artistry of being a killer. Not 1-2-3 hooking each survivor and drilling them out of the trial, but getting each and every survivor to second hook, THEN hunting them down one-by-one until they are all gone. Or letting the last one escape because at that point, it no longer matters. You've asserted your dominance and given the entity all the hope and despair it can get for this match...
Anyway, $4 a pound.
-
Nope. Survive and move on. It's my new mantra.
-
It happens... I've seen it before... My recommendation is that you shrug it off and don't let it slow you down. A lot of interactions happen in this game, and this is one possibility. Try to have a good time on the next one.
-
Voted other because there's already been an animation with a blood-drinking vampire so I'm guessing they have one in the works. I would assume it would be an original killer since... vampires are so ubiquitous and you don't really need a specific one to sell a vampire killer.

Well given the posts here people seem to have a better understanding of it than me so I guess I'll concede she doesn't need a nerf on the traps.
HOLY ######### a person on the internet actually convinced of something???
I notice that a lot of people panic on the traps and don't realize that they're triggered by completed gens, so they can for sure work on a gen or maybe two on their way to the boxes to clear the trap.
In addition, watch the timer on your portrait, don't get panicked by the beeping. It starts to beep really fast when you've still got like 3/4 of the timer left.
Also, if you get one put on after all 5 gens, you can ignore it. If it's not actively beeping, you can walk out the gate or take the hatch no problem.
EDIT: Oh, all that being said, I've died twice to these in recent weeks. In both cases it's because I either stopped working on mine to let another survivor at the box that had a more advanced timer or I couldn't get to the box because someone else was using it and I exploded next to the box in exasperation.
-
I think it might help to have the exit gates make another brief 'aura appearance' when opened? But to both survivor and killer :D
