This would help. Ultimately, I would like to see a variance that is player specific. Like this person is x% above or below your MMR or whatever.
Showing the grades is just confusing the ... easily confused masses. It's tiring.

I'm iri 2 at the moment. My first Pinhead game was against all ash players.
You're making a point that is meaningless, as far as I know.
My understanding is that the grade now has nothing to do with who you match against, so why mention it?
MMR doesn't reflect in grade. On the 13th, everyone's grade will reset to ash. MMR will remain the same.

We don't know how much. They haven't stated it and won't state it. It's been asked over the months of testing. All we know if that the MMR of your other killers has a strong bearing on the "beginning MMR" of your new killers.
I haven't seen that anywhere. It seems to me it would make some sense to start a player that does well with other killers out at better than 0 with a new killer, but sounds like maybe they're putting people too high. In theory, wouldn't the MMR system move that killer/player combination up or down to compensate? Whereas the old system would force the killer to either suffer or depip on purpose? Seems like an improvement, to me.

Most likely the OP plays killer a lot. When he plays a new killer, whatever score he's been getting previously translates over. So if the OP was continually getting 4ks on Nurse, then played Pinhead for the first time, then Pinhead gets part of the Nurses MMR to adjust for players that know how to play Killer but don't know how to specifically play a new killer.
Well the idea of separating MMR per killer was to alleviate some of the issue with going against very good survivors with a new killer. The question is, if some of the 'residual skill' from other killers moves to a new killer, how much is it?

Interesting idea about the chains. The teleport i believe will be tweaked. See this is where i have sympathy with BHVR over balancing. When new killers come out and they're very strong, or an ability is very strong, this forum and their twitter gets absolutly flooded with survs whineing about being unable to play against, too OP etc. The hyperbole with underpowered killers does seem to be less. So with every new killer it does seem like they are releasing them a bit weak and then fine tuning them so that they seem more powerful in the next patch. Really they should probably be doing a longer Beta for these killers rather than 3 weeks so they can be released in a better place.
Chains should be doing damage after a few hits though. Definitely agree with that.
Also, if they release a strong killer and then nerf, people want a refund because they wanted to buy an OP killer.
So it incentivizes making killers weak out of the gate, then dialing them up, which I believe is what they have had to do with pretty much every killer.

I remember before where if I had games like that I'd have entitity displeased. Which come to think of it, I don't think that I got entity displeased at all last night cus I'd manage to get plenty of hooks in.
Isn't 'Entity Displeased' based almost entirely on hooks? SO getting a 4K mori will result in 'Entity Displeased'?

the grade isnt the issue, i took a 2month break, so im a "0 mmr" player due to their resent slate wipe, the groups im being put up against as a "new" player are so desgustingly one sided its borderline questionable how setting the default mmr to the BOTTOM of the numbers was a freaking good idea.
when you do mmr system you start people at the middle so people can either climb or fall.
starting at the bottom means you will ONLY climb, never fall, meaning whenever a sweat group wants to stomp "ez" games they can just get a DBD gift for a friend, let him "smurf", party with him, artificially lower your groups mmr low enough to be against "ez" matches, repeat ad infinium.
edit: and because bottom of the mmr means you cannot go any lower, new account smurfing will become so abusable that new players will almost ALWAYS be against either sweaty smurfers or literal newbies, no inbetweens, and because losing means no progress AT ALL because your always at the bottom, this pattern with infinitely happen
Puts up giant graphic with arrows making a point with grades...
"GRades aren't the Issue"
Where is it stated that they're setting the 'default mmr to the bottom'? Are you referring to the fact that MMR is not across all killers but individual per killer?
It sounds like a viable point that averaging a group because there is a lower MMR player on the survivor side might not work out so great. But how many accounts cant those players create? It's a diminishing return. Maybe the 'averaging' mechanic for mixed survivor teams needs a look. My assumption is that they need time to look at that kind of statistic.
Everyone around here is so touchy. I realize it's a ######### up game with a lot of bugs and the company has a ######### track record but what do you propose as the alternative? The old method wasn't working for everyone, either. At least making a change is an attempt at progress.

Are you saying that, though there are material changes at live release, that that one week of exposure to the new killer, ignoring changes and the live environment experience, is enough for people this killer? Seems shortsighted to me.

Pinhead has barely been out a day, and it seems like everyone wanted a killer that was super easy to pick up and play. Pinhead is a very hard killer to play, but he is in no way the worst killer, he isn't even near the bottom lmao. Maybe we have been spoiled with killers that have very little depth and skill needed like trickster and Nemesis. I'm already calling it. Pinhead is gonna get big buffs, and then there will be posts saying "me no like he is so strong and annoying now!!" How about we actually practice and try to be patient when they finally add a unique and skillful killer lmao the amount of posts or things I've seen where it is just "I played 1 round with the new killer that I haven't had practice with and obviously won't 4k with and I think he is weak pls buff bhvr" is sad
Agreed. It literally says he is 'hard', but like little kids, so many people are saying 'WAAAAH TOO HARD TO PLAY. WEAK KILLER'. Really? I think it's more like you are just weak and can't spend some time rising to the challenge to see how this killer really is. So many seem to just want the new killer to be easy street without any effort. it came out yesterday, ffs.

While grades are different right now players know what rank they were and the current grade is equal to that. So players are seeing iridescent 4 with Ash 1 or Bronze 3 and are thinking SBMM isn't working because they know Ash 1 was a 17 and Bronze 3 was a 15. If hidden for the time, atleast until reset, it will remove their ability to judge based on grade which currently is what their rank would've been.
SBMM is active as of today. Theoretically, you should stop worrying about comparing your own grade against others. I guess some people can't mentally grasp it.

I have 2.5k hours in the game. Currently sitting at Iri II killer (casual killer not a particularly good one) I have never played Demogorgon in my life. I have no perks (except for the three tier 1 teachables). I wanted to test to see if what BHVR said would happen, would actually happen and I would be matched with less skilled survivors considering I have never played that killer before. So I bought Demo and jumped into a game.
I was absolutely obliterated by 4 Iri I/II survivors. They ran every tile near-perfectly, they were optimal, managed their time efficiently. If anything, this was a significantly higher standard of team than I used to get.
Not impressed.
Sorry that you came up against a team of survivors better than you. Don't worry. Play more matches and you will descend to whatever level you match up against and you can win matches again. Strength, friend.

Not to mention everyone considers a bad game different. Bad teammates don't mean the MMR is wrong, your kill count does not mean the MMR is wrong, it's about whether the others in the trial were your skill level and whether or not you had a legit chance to win.

I had faith in the SBMM system. BHVR said it worked perfectly. Fact is it doesn't work at all.
1st game as survivor : Terrible killer, hold him in chase like 2 to 3 minutes. Other survivors ? They didn't do anything, they felt down in 10 seconds. Game lost.
2nd game : killer was a camper/tunneler. Survivors ? They ended up all three on the hook at the same time cause they all died in less than 20 seconds around the 1st hooked guy. Could hold the killer 1 minute even though i had never played against the Pinhead, which has a trash design btw. Too much map control without skill required and of course framerate drops all the way with a high end computer.
Didn't they have prior datas to launch SBMM ? I mean i'm 1200+ hours in survivor, can hold a long time most killer mains in chases... Well no way it is working.
So... you're judging the system after 2 games.
Ouch. Friend, I recommend you play a few more games before exacting judgment. Maybe 50?

Can you please tell me where I said anything about throwing the whole system out? I was disagreeing with someone’s claim that the system requires placement matches, not making any judgements about the system itself. I haven’t even had time to play a single match yet, I have no idea how good or bad it might be.
Sorry, seems like maybe I just chose a poor post to reply to... It does sound like you're supporting people making negative feedback about a pretty big change after it's been live for an eyeblink based on what is fairly unknown information.
Maybe the past recording of information was not as pertinent as they thought and it DOES need some time to dial in. Who can say?
I'd say people's feedback will be more valuable in a few days, a week, a couple of weeks from now rather than having a hair-trigger response just because we assume the past data will give us perfect matches right out of the gate...
I think OP is posting against people who are obviously posting against MMR without any real experience of the live MMR that we're all part of now.
-
@Exor said:

I would really hope that they still require at least some placement matches, otherwise this system is quite questionable. It matched me with a group that had at least 4.5k hours each as a survivor and as a killer against a group that had 500 hours max, and I have more hours as a killer.
My understanding is they've been gathering data for placement for some time. Obviously, not sure if they're collecting more than they're using and then adjusting or changing what markers apply to MMR, but I'd assume that there's some usable history there.
That being said, it still doesn't work after 10 minutes that someone had one bad match. COme at me with "I've played 30 matches and 18 were crappy" or whatever. That being said, if MY last 30 matches were good, I'm still going to assume you just are a Luddite who wants old ranks back and somehow assumes posting a 'WAAAAH' crying post will make that happen.

@xenotimebong said:

Unless you have a legitimate source to prove otherwise, you’re wrong. They’ve been gathering data for this. Nobody is starting from scratch unless they’re brand new or haven’t played for months.
Right, so if I have one bad match, then the whole system should be thrown out?
I'd have more respect for people's feedback in a few days when they can indicate how many matches they've played and why they think it's bad.
Posting 'MMR BAD' after 5 minutes means you did nothing and just wanted to post something useless.
For example, I actually heard @ScottJund in a video say '10 out of my last 14 matches as pinhead disconnected'. THis is actual value for something that is materially happening or people wouldn't be posting.. but when I see people posting something, and I'm not experiencing it, I'm sceptical if they're just spewing crap without any numbers. Sure, someone could just make up numbers... But that's just better lying. Having real meat behind your argument means it's worth more respect. "WAAAH X SUCKS" means nothing. Especially when you say it after only a few minutes without any kind of evidence.

I think many players thought it was removed due to issues with the game files, and by this I mean the buggy state of the chapter than out of studio issues. They mention game files as their reason.
Part of representing the product as viable for purchase isn't explaining why. They removed the voice. Buy or not. If you missed that the voice was removed, that's on you.
I guess you're saying they deliberately lied and were going to remove the voice all along? That it was in the PTB just to attract more sales and then they craftily pulled the rug out at the last second? I guess that might work on some..... But I still think it's on the buyer in that case.

If they can't be forthcoming due to legal issues, then they can at least offer refunds to players who have. You say consumers have to right to ask about products they wish to purchase, I disagree.
In a similar vein, he only people who can clear up this issue is BHVR, and they haven't said anything.
Why? They clearly stated that the voice line was removed in the patch notes. There are posts literally everywhere of people stating that it's been removed. I made the informed decision to purchase knowing it was removed. If someone didn't see that it was removed and then made the purchase, I could see that they could compassionately allow a refund but there's certainly no requirement to do so.

BHVR says they will not be forthcoming with any further information, even though they can clarify this by being straightforwardly truthful.
The opposite of your reasoning is what led many to believe it's a legal basis. If they feel they might get into legal trouble or endanger the license by saying anything they won't. They might even have had to work with the licensing party on the language in the patch notes. They've said a number of times that they can't comment further in forums. THat all sounds like a perceived legal issue.
Of course, it could all be a smokescreen, trying to LOOK like a legal issue but it's some other reason, but you know, the most reasonable explanation is often true and for something like this here, that REALLY doesn't matter THAT much, I'm content with how they've handled it.
-
@Cerebral_Harlot said:

Yeah it says there are complications with the audio files, audio files being a very technical item within the game.
BHVR had a chance to clarify it was a licence issue, but instead they framed it as a technical sounding one.
You're reaching. While I agree, this is obfuscating language on the part of Behaviour, your assumptions aren't their fault. Complications can mean a lot of things, and no one on the outside really knows what's up, it's all conjecture. Point is, though, that they've used a reasonable method to make it clear the voice is removed and, more importantly, it became VERY well known in the community very quickly so obviously, reasonable people figured it out right away. There's no reasonable way to present that they were misleading. In my opinion.

Fair enough. For me, I'll be trying different strategies, maybe different perk builds to counter him and have some fun.
-
Nope. And you're reading into the notes. I don't believe that they lied about the reason.
Excerpt from the patch notes:
Changes from PTB
The Cenobite
- The Cenobite's voice over lines have been removed due to complications with the audio files.
It says 'complications', not that it's a bug. Assumptions on anyone's part are not their responsibility. I assumed, since it's under 'changes' that it was considered a permanent removal. Does that mean they might come back or come back differently, sure.
Thing is, this came out BEFORE the character was even purchasable and it's still part of the notes. Caveat emptor. I saw this and chose to buy the character anyway. Sure, I buy things that feel different than I expected or I miss things when I make a purchase. I also have no problem recognizing that it's on me to catch that stuff. They present something to buy. You have a choice to buy it or not. For myself, and I believe for reasonable consumers who do any kind of basic due diligence (for a $5 purchase, less than an hour's parking in most major cities), the communication is fine.
How would you have done it differently, given the parameters of having to remove the voice lines but still sell the character? Skywriting? Amber alerts? Literally NOTHING will get to everyone. In fact, there are NO ways for a game company to communicate something that 100% of people will see. There will always be people who don't look, click and ignore, etc.

The people asking for a refund have a reason, and with McLean gone, more of these posts will pop up.
Not really. If every chapter since Oni has been garbage, why would one continue to buy them? There are many, many readily available review sources for this stuff and this particular content has been out less than 24 hours. If someone continually pulls the trigger instantly on content then wants a refund immediately, that person is being theatrical. Maybe slow down and not buy new content for a couple weeks. Maybe if the game is such trash, abandon your sunken cost and move on?

What i wanted is the same, a strong feared killer that is escapable but not a joke, guess that's too much to ask for
It's certainly a tough balance. I hope in a game for everyone to have a satisfying level of interaction and fun. I know that goes against what some others want, especially from a killer perspective. Some killers want to dominate and kill survivors fast which is not fun. It's a tough nut to crack and I'm no game developer...

Ha. Apparently, from the comments in this thread, it's reactivated but not noted in the patch notes.... ? I guess everyone should be looking at this thread to know that this map is now active...
Which maps are active and inactive is seemingly pretty important to the community, @MandyTalk. Maybe something more solid in the future so people know what's going on? RCPD just kind of came back without notice... Or did some of us miss something?
-
I want to disagree with you but I fundamentally can't.
It's too bad that issues cropped up with the sound files. Very frustrating as I know some were looking forward to them.
I have always felt that the PTB was really just a showcase period. In the case of this new killer, it does seem like they made quite a few adjustments. I do feel like they were mostly bug related adjustments, though. It feels like a lot of the feedback didn't really translate.
Killers come out weak. I would much rather have the new killer be overwhelming then get dialed back rather than coming out weak and being dialed up. That being said, I suppose they would be accused of trying to get people to spend money early and then watering down the killer and 'changing what they sold,' so the only option to counter whiners is to come out weak and try to build up.
In many ways I want a game where the killer is overwhelming and survivors really feel like they are likely not to survive like in a movie but... I don't see how that can be fun. When I go against a killer much better than myself, it's only a short, frustrating match that I want to forget about. So I guess I just always want to be the last standing survivor....

What's game share?
Yeah, kinda sorta sounds like you're both trying to play on one purchase which wouldn't be allowed, I'm sure.

Worst ability in the game. I'm not even gonna rant about it or give some constructive critism because it will be ignored as everything else we said about him on the PTB.
I'm actually fuming I spent money on this killer.
Are you fuming at yourself, though, that you spent that money?
There are tons of sources out there on how the killer plays and there will be tons more now that it's live. If you bought right out of the gate and you're prone to buyer's remorse, that's on you.
I bought Nemesis and I've played him like... twice. Maybe someday, but I just prefer to have all the content available.

It WOULD be more valuable if there was a way to let players know IN GAME about something like this.
A lot of people don't read patch notes and so forth. It's a busy world...

Dead dawg is disabled.
The Game is disabled.
Racoon City is dsiabled.
Using any of these offerings will not work.
Also, offerings are never 100% chance, even on enabled maps.

This was the most hilarious thing I read in the patch notes. I was amazed.
