Honestly, this is why I've been waiting on bots for years. The DBD community can sometimes be rather toxic, and sometimes depending on the time of day you play, your SBMM rating won't affect your games much. So what better way to brush it off than by taking your frustrations out on some poor bots? LOL It sucks that bots aren't coming until the end of the year, but the fact that they are officially coming makes me definitely more eager to play this game than ever before.

I’m bummed too. I really only play Claudette and I really don’t have much of a drive to complete the anniversary rift.
At the end of the day, survivors are essentially skins since there's nothing unique to them other than how they look. It's why many players don't invest millions upon millions of BP into multiple survivors. Limiting cosmetics is a way to get players to invest into playing multiple survivors.
To each their own, but I'll gladly stick with just Feng.

I suppose it comes down to time unfortunately - whilst it would have been nice for every single original character to get a unique mask, I doubt they had the time to do it, otherwise, well, they would have, which is why they gave 1 to each character per year.
Whilst it sucks if your main didn't get one, it is, in my opinion, nice to see that some of the characters chosen were some characters that don't often see frequent cosmetic updates, such as Ace. Hopefully next year if they do a similar event they can pick the characters that weren't chosen this year.
And I do agree that it is nice to see characters that usually don't get a lot of attention get these masks. Not seeing the original characters not get one though is the biggest surprise of all. Because of that I really have no desire to play the event other than to get some extra blood points here and there.
-
@Phasmamain said:
I can’t blame them for not wanting to making custom masks for 40+ characters. I like how these more detailed ones turned out though especially Slinger and huntress even if I play neither of them
Oh I certainly wouldn't expect them to create custom masks for that many characters, but I expected at least the original characters to be given one: Feng, Claudette, Nurse, etc. That's the biggest part about this that surprised me.

Yeah that's what I'm doing. It's good to know that prestiging will unlock their perks for all killers, but obviously right now that's not the case, so I have to keep leveling up if I want more perks with him.

Right? It's like telling a console player to simply get a gaming PC. LOL
-
To 99 a gate reminds me of how it used to be with the hooks, where you could go around and dismantle hooks until they were one touch away from being removed. Why the gates can't regress if survivors choose not to open it is something that I don't understand. It would seem to make sense.

Im back from a 2 years or so break? the maps filosophy sucks ass, It all comes to press w, make distance with conveniently placed window, keep pressing w, get a hit MAYBE, keep on pressing w, chase through out 2 to 6 pallets that have little to none mind game expression, only to create just more space in between you and the survivor... unintuitive to play, nothing new to learn, just hold w, extremely frustrating.
Yeah that's why I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that the perk redesign adds more spice to the gameplay. The hit and run style no longer applies, it's all about map control these days.

My understanding was that the bots were for custom games only. Is this still the case?
I've been wanting bot-only games for a long while. Human players are horrible and toxic on both killer/survivor sides, and I'd rather take them completely out of the picture and have a true solo DBD game experience.
Yes they will be attached to custom games only, but you'll be able to use anybody and any perk that you want, which is really nice. Nothing worse than hopping right into a public match with a killer you've never played with before.
Playing killer right now is such a sweat fest regardless of SBMM, which is why no one hardly plays killer anymore, and I personally have no problem playing against bots on a permanent basis unless I'm playing with friends.
-
Honestly, DBD has one of the most toxic communities I've ever had the misfortune of playing with. Because of this I've been eagerly awaiting bots for years, and thankfully it's finally happening.
I'll still play with friends online, but as a solo player it's good to know that I can take out my frustrations on some poor bots. LOL
-
I'm just glad that DH (like most meta perks) is getting reworked. Far too many players use it for distance instead of it's actual intended purpose.

I'm really excited for bots also. I will play the game so much more when they are added.
Same. SBMM was bad enough, but not having a way to practice with Killers you've never played with before against sweaty SWF made me turn off the game for months.
-
@TheArbiter said:
Believe me im glad bots are being added but I was a little disappointed when they said "winter" for a release date
That was a bummer. The thing I found funny though was in the last Q&A they said bots were all but off the table, and now they've done a complete 180. No doubt all of these asymmetrical games coming out that actually have bots no doubt forced their hand.

Considering this has been at the absolute bottom of their priority list for a very long time (and something they've also previously said they had no plans to do), I'm just glad that it's even on the table at this point.
Though I'm skeptical we'll actually be seeing KYF Bots this year with all the other things they're talking about implementing.
Obviously it's just speculation, but I think the thing that forced their hand was seeing all of the asymmetrical games coming out that actually have bot implementation. Perfect example, Evil Dead. That game allows you to play with other bot controlled survivors against a bot controlled demon, and considering everything that's going on in that game, not having bots in DBD seemed rather ridiculous.
-
@Slowpeach said:
Really hope they don't double back on the bot promise. I know of at least two people who will play this game if bots are introduced.
Sadly we've heard all this before in regards to bots. I'm not holding my breath.
-
Like you I'm not expecting much from them either. Every Q&A stream always sees the same questions get asked, and yet they still don't do anything about it. For example, players clearly want bots in the game as a way to practice. The code is clearly there as hackers are taking advantage of it, so why can't that be available for players? Hell you can play with a team of AI controlled survivors in the new Evil Dead game, and considering everything that you can do in that game, you're telling me you can't create bots to do simple tasks in DBD like work on generators and unhook teammates?
The new Evil Dead game is a perfect example of what a 4v1 asymmetrical game should be. It's a hell of a lot of fun, and much more approachable for newer players. Going back to DBD to just do generators seems really boring now.
-
As badly as I want new game modes, after 6 years I don't see that happening at all. The same questions get asked in every Q&A stream because the devs are unwilling to implement things that the player base desperately wants like bots and new modes.
Honestly after seeing firsthand everything you can do as a survivor in the new Evil Dead game, going back to DBD to just work on generators seems really boring. Not only does it have everything that we've been asking to have in DBD for years, but the thing I love most about playing as the killer in the new Evil Dead game is that there is no equivalent to gen rushing here, because the survivors are encouraged to take their time and search for better weapons and equipment otherwise they'll get completely destroyed. Bottom line, it's definitely more along the lines of what an asymmetrical horror game should now be.

First Person Shooter mode?
The first person perspective is commonly referred to as FPS mode, so yes and no. Plus it's just easier saying fps instead of first person perspective each time.
-
Not that long ago Otz (a very popular DBD streamer) was training new players how to play killer, and they discovered that they were being thrown into matches against survivors with thousands of hours under their belt within just 4-6 matches. When you factor in that the game doesn't even have a proper training mode, but instead throws you into the deep end and expects you to know how to swim, something like SBMM (on top of a MASSIVE grind) really makes the game a hard pill to swallow for new players.

The shape should be one of the easiest killers to modernize.
- Remove the tier 1 penalty speed unless you want to give him permanent +5% speed for T2/T3 later. Remove the "mini" lunge.
- Put multistalking back in the game. It was such a mistake to remove this feature. If you can see several people you should drain them at the same time.
- Make his power activation be like Oni's where you have to charge the meter to full and then press the button again to activate the power.
- Since Ghostface got his expose timer increased the Shape should probably have his numbers adjusted. It should be far easier than it is now to get out of T1 (50% faster). It is completely unacceptable that you just need to "give up one generator" to get out of your initial weak state.
- Let The shape break pallets by swinging at them when he has tier 3 active. Alternatively why not go with the more loreful idea "that he cannot be stopped" and have pallets that hit him while in T3 automatically break as if he had spirit fury.
Note: Since MM is unique in that the number of survivors on game start determine how much power they each get when a player d/cs from the game it should distribute that player's "stalk" potential to all remaining players.
Personally I don't think pallets should break like they do in spirit fury because he would be ridiculously overpowered at that point, BUT I find no reason why he shouldn't be given the equivalent of the brutal strength perk while in tier 3. If he's allowed to vault windows faster, then why not brake pallets faster too?
-
I watch streamers play this game far more than I play it myself because I just don't have fun playing DBD. Sole survivor sucks for obvious reasons, and playing killer is nothing but a sweatfest. If I was getting paid to play then granted that could lessen the sting of it all, but as it is it usually takes many hours of playing just to come across a couple of really fun matches, and that's time I just don't have.
-
I think the devs have mentioned that Myers is on the table to be looked at. He's considered among many players (their own fog whisperers included) to be weak with an outdated mechanic. Personally I'm fine with the starting speed, but having him run out of stalk should never happen. Once survivors are in the red, it should be reduced by half, maybe more, but taking away the stalk entirely takes away his power which doesn't make any sense.

Poor guy. Probably Ringu/Ring fan. Saw Sadako in game. Bought game and dlc. And then faced with exp players.
This is exactly what happened with resident evil. The license brought in a massive influx of players, only for those players to be met with some of the worst glitches the game has ever seen. Not to mention the map itself being pulled for over a month certainly didn't win over the new resident evil fans. When you throw in SBMM on top of all of that, it's no wonder that the game hasn't seen a surplus of players ever since.

I would really love to see the change made, but I don't think it has.

I really wanted to like her. Her condemned mechanic is not only laughably non-threatening, but her only power is the tvs, which can be turned off far too easily, and which stay off far too long.
Simply put, she's a hit-and-run killer, and that play style will never again be effective so long as boons like COH can be relit as many times as necessary in a match.

The Halloween Kills skin is owned by a different license holder. Dbd holds license to the original Halloween movie. Not any of the sequels. Several of the sequels were handled by different movie companies.
If that's the case then you definitely won't see a rework, because no doubt a different license holder will complain that he looks too much like "their" character. The only way to circumvent this is to go for skins and a look that is held by a different license.
-
As much as I want to see it happen, it probably never will. Michael Myers is the only killer on the roster that has seen two recent back-to-back movies, which has managed to drum up a lot of excitement for the character. Despite this, not only has he not received a graphical rework, they haven't even implemented a new skin. A lot of people wanted a new Halloween Kills skin, and if we can't even get that, then don't expect a graphical rework.
-
As far as problems go, personally I think Legion needs a further stacking speed increase than what they gave him. Smart survivors will still split up across big maps preventing you from being able to get to the other side before your power runs out. It's just not enough.
-
"Please, devs, don't be stubborn. Listen to your community"
First time here? LOL It's well known that BHVR doesn't listen much to their community. There's a reason why you continue to see the same questions pop up in every Q&A stream that they have. The spaghetti coding holding this game together just continues to break this game with every new chapter released. I want to see less of a grind as well (amongst many other things), but BHVR needs to heavily prioritize game health first, and they simply won't do that because they want to keep making money, game health be damned.
-
Not having to deal with the headache that is DBD right now: glitched perks, SBMM, hackers, etc, has caused me to go back to single-player games, and I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. I almost forgot what it was like to have fun playing games again. LOL
-
The only thing I don't like is that holding on to the tape should increase the condemned status even more so. You can get way too much done with the tape in your possession.
-
The game has lost over half of its player base on Steam, and they have been steadily losing players since October, but it's still clinging to life. But clearly SBMM has rubbed people the wrong way, and until they do something to fix it, this game will be on life support before you know it.
-
Sadly you have to accept and realize that the 1 in the 4v1 equation is made weak intentionally. If survivors had low odds of escaping every match, then the fun factor for that role would cease to exist. Because of this I've accepted the reality that playing Killer will always be the harder role, I just wish that the game was a bit more fairly balanced. Playing against a SWF is absurdly difficult given the amount of information at the survivors' disposal, especially if you're playing a stealthy killer, and as such I think information perks like what can be had with BBQ should become base kit.
-
It just made me think of what the rework could have been on Freddy. This is more in line with what I think it should have been instead of the palett or snare Freddy that we have now.
-
@Brokenbones said:
I dunno, there's a big diff between the two
The killer decides when they can enter the 'hitting survivors' mode for lack of a better term/how long they aren't able to hit survivors. Kinda like Wraith decides how and when to uncloak
Old freddy had to track down the survivors, painstakingly drag them into the dream and then hope they didn't wake themselves up immediately and he had to do it for every survivor individually
Oh I agree there is definitely a subtle difference, and if old Freddy were to a return there would have to be some changes made. But seeing a killer with a stealth ability that you can turn on and off at whim just made me think about what could be done with Freddy outside of his terrible rework. One can hope, but sadly that's all we can do.
-
This is why people of the community like myself have been asking for a proper practice mode with bots for years now. As it is, if you're a new player, it's like being thrown into the deep end of the pool and not knowing how to swim. Queue times will always take priority over SBMM. Even Otz has proved this. He's been training new players recently, and a player that he was training on killer was facing survivors with thousands of hours under their belt after just six matches.
Simply put, don't expect anything to change. The community keeps asking the same questions year after year because nothing changes. It's why every Q&A is seen as a pointless endeavor because nothing ever gets addressed. Behavior has been steadily losing players since October, on top of losing over half of their player base on Steam, but none of that was enough to change anything. It's almost like BHVR wants this game to crash and burn.
-
This is the main reason why I don't play Pinhead. I really wanted to like him, but the fact that he sandbags his own power is what stops me from playing him. I'm fine with the chains breaking on the environment, but it shouldn't be broken by the killer himself.
-
What's still really frustrating is seeing the game prioritize queue times over their MMR system. If people have been waiting too long in a lobby, then you'll be thrown against people you have no business playing against. It's why you'll see some matches where the killer will barely get more than one hook. SWF is hard enough, but seeing the "SBMM" throw its hands up in the air just so that a match can get underway sucks.
But for me the most troubling aspect is seeing highly requested features continually get shut down or ignored year after year. You see the same questions pop up in every Q&A session they have: bots, perk loadouts, grind reduction, more training options for newer players, killer reworks, etc. Here we are 6 years later, and the fact that those questions are still getting asked is defeating. They've lost over half of their player base on Steam (not to mention they've been steadily losing players since October), and yet it seems like they could care less. Not saying they don't care, but this is the message they give out. I mean what else would we expect when their very own game director advises that you go play something else if you're not having fun?😕
-
The blood web is atrocious. The new "design" to reduce grinding can't come soon enough.
-
I've been in that exact same boat before. I played a match not that long ago where the last two remaining survivors couldn't be stalked anymore, and it turned me into a regular killer with nothing but a knife. It was really boring. Personally I think that once a survivor is in the red, their stalking capability should be reduced by half instead of removed altogether.
-
Yup

Because from a technical point of view, as they explained (and it's true), it wouldn't be that easy. Combine it with the spaghetti code DBD is written in and it probably would take ages to find any possible bug
From a players point of view, perk tiers might look as useless to veteran/older players, but to new players it actually gives a feel of progression. Remember when you were new and would unlock a stronger tier, the excitement behind it? Honestly I wouldn't like to remove that from new players.
What they could do is gradually reduce the grind based in playtime, number of characters unlocked, prestige level. Or they could flat out do number changes in blood points.
Honestly at this rate, I don't expect them to implement anything that the community is asking for. How many years now has the DBD community been asking for things like grind reduction, console optimization, bots, perk load outs, etc? The recent Q&A was the latest in a long line of "no plans", "coming soon", and "we can't say". BHVR is going to do what they want, and the community will just have to deal with it. They've already lost over half their player base on Steam, and even that wasn't enough to give them the swift kick they needed.
-
I don't understand why they don't remove per tiers. Removing them will reduce the grind by 2/3, and the amount of new perks that would need to be implemented to match where the grind is now would take many, many years, and I don't see DBD being around that long.

what pisses me off about the constant killer nerfs and survivor buffs is that the game is 4v1. Killers are supposed to be overpowered. Why keep giving survivors more and more buffs to their perks while taking killer add ons and nerfing powers? Legion needs something. I feel like just buffing his movement speed in his power to something like 150% and longer power active just to get every survivor instead of maybe 2 or 3 would help.
I agree. It's a 4v1 game, and the 1 in that equation should be overpowered. Obviously not to a ridiculous degree, but they should definitely have a slight advantage, and all of the nerfs lately to Wraith, Deathslinger, Twins, Freddy, Spirit, etc, has gotten out of hand. There's a reason why most players see the same Killers over and over again.
-
The nerfs to Killers have gotten out of control, so I hope they don't make Legion any worse to play than they are right now.
Personally I would like to see a few things: 1) For every successful hit you get on a survivor with your power active, it increases your speed and detection rate. As it is if survivors are too spread out then it makes your power null and void. 2) They're the only killer that cannot down a survivor with their power, and as such they either need to have their power replenished much more quickly, or the stun coming out of the power needs to be reduced.
-
What I can't wrap my head around is that hackers literally have to pay money, usually on a monthly basis, in order to keep the cheats going. Why that's worth spending your money on I'll never understand.
But regardless of what was stated in the Q&A, I feel like BHVR could care less about cheaters. While I fully understand why they can't reveal too much information about how they go about fixing the cheating problem, the fact that so many players had to upvote a question about hackers just to get a direct answer from BHVR was sad, and it speaks volumes. The anti-cheat should boot someone from the match for doing something they clearly should not be able to. At the very least have the match end once the EGC ends. The fact that killers are still being held hostage once the match ends is absurd.
-
I logged on last night - Jan 28th - and I still don't have mine.
-
Things like this is why people jump to the conclusion that the developers don't play test their own game, or don't listen to the criticism from their play testers (if they even have them). With changes like this however, I'm inclined to believe them. There's no reason why the devs couldn't see just how broken boil over now is, especially on maps like RPD. Playing killer just keeps getting worse by the day.
And good Lord I hate RPD. LOL Between it's massive size and just how dark it is in general makes the map an absolute pain to play on. The map was that big in Resident Evil 2 for a reason because it needed to give you plenty of space to run away from Mr X. It was designed for a single player 1v1 game, but incorporating that into a 4v1 asymmetrical game doesn't work. Having the library in the DBD map was always a bad choice to begin with. It was made even more of a headache with boons, and now it's just flat out migraine inducing with boil over.

That contradiction is definitely an interesting point.
Maybe this whole, "we-are-not-going-to-have-bots-that-can-counterplay-pigs-reverse-bear-traps" could act as a litmus test for killer concepts.
If a killer concept is too difficult to develop bot behavior to counter play a certain killer power, maybe the killer power is too complicated/convoluted in the first place (I mean not in general, but for BHVR to develop and maintain/bugfix in the future).
Food for thought
What I and many others find confusing is that DBD mobile already has bot implementation for both killers and survivors with varying difficulty, and yet BHVR wants me to believe that they can't implement (at the very least) a rudimentary AI system into the main game, when a free mobile game already has it? Not only that, but you can still earn a small amount of blood points and experience within those bot matches. For 6 years straight the community have been asking for bots in the main game, and for 6 years straight BHVR refuses to do anything about it.
Another great example of refusing to listen to the community would be the grind. They mentioned in the Q&A that they won't remove perk tiers because they have something else planned to reduce the grind. They mentioned that they don't want to remove perk tiers because they'll just keep adding more perks with every new killer and survivor so what's the point? Do you have any idea just how many years of new perks it would take for DBD to be given in order for the grind to be comparable to where it is now if perk tiers were removed? Most likely a decade, and I don't see DBD being around that long And why did it have to take year after year of constant complaints before something was going to be done about the grind?
Simply put, BHVR is going to continue to do what they want to do regardless how many players they continue to lose. They've already lost over half of their player base on Steam, and clearly they could care less about doing what's necessary to win those players back.
