Because it's too much like hard work in comparison to making a pretty costume and selling it for twice the price of a DLC.

I'll say this, regardless how one may feel about BHVR as a whole, their art department always puts out amazing work! I just wish we could say that about the rest of the game.

Survivor bots do not need to be given much more programming to face off against different killers - they just need to be basic in approach. Sure, you can use an if/then line of code to make a survivor drink from a fountain if they are fully infected from the plague, and have already been hooked once. That's not much code at all. Other than this, all you really need is for bots to repair gens, cleans hex totems, heal allies, and generally run away from killers. They do not have to be THAT strong. They don't even need to use active ability perks. Having ANY survivor at all is better than a DC - the Killer will have to chase them and kill them, yes, but the killer gets the satisfaction of eliminating a survivor and they have to take time to kill them - which frees up time for other survivor players.

Likewise, you may say that playing against an M1 hillbilly is boring - but having a Hillbilly that only M1s and is a relatively easy mark is a lot more interesting than a killer that DCs and sends you back to Que with a handful of points.

There may be logistical concerns, but they have the AI packets and they could make an injector to take over once someone disconnects.

Seriously, this technology has been around since 2009. There aren't any excuses.

Exactly. Bots do not need to reflect what it's like to play in a real match. They exist solely for practicing purposes only. Personally I don't understand why a bot can't hop in when a player disconnects. I agree with Patrick that multiplayer games should be focused around the human player, but when a human player disconnects you no longer have that human player element, so having a bot hop in would be better than having nothing at all.

Literally all they need to do is allow you to enter a KYF alone. That would allow you to test killer powers (i.e. Nurse blinks, Huntress hatchets). Learning some of these things in a live game often results in survivors bullying the hell out of you so much that you can't actually learn anything. This would also allow survivors and killers to study the maps and practice running loops. This would be good for everyone in the game, killers and survivors. You don't need bots. Some of us don't have any friends that play dbd, and we don't want to have to go find some random to practice with. Just allow us to go into KYF with one player. It's already in the game, and I don't see a downside.

You're right in that there is absolutely no reason why you can't hop into a custom match by yourself. That being said, they talked in the Q&A how hard it would be to program survivor bots to work against different killers, but the truth is they can be simple bots like what can be found in the tutorial. Bots don't have to mirror an actual match against real people. They exist for practice reasons, and practice reasons alone. But like you said if they're not going to do that, then allow us to hop into a custom match on our own. There's no reason good enough why that still isn't a thing 6 years later.

  • It would be nice, but any changes to Myers would need to be approved. Naturally you would think the license holders would be more than willing to capitalize on the resurgence of the Halloween franchise in any way they can, but that new found popularity is no doubt costly because any changes cosmetically probably increased in price.

Honestly I just stopped being so invested in the future of the game and now I just take it for what it is, flaws and all. The devs are set in their ways, there’s nothing we can really say to help them see sense and athough it’s always good to try, we have to accept they think they know what’s best and most feedback will be discounted.

DBD does have much potential and is a special game to me, but it’s held back by a team of people who won’t even give us loadouts after 5+ years, despite over 190 perks. That’s mental!

Everything is “too much work” and is “really difficult” to implement. Even trivial stuff. It’s a video game! Of course it takes work to develope features. How did it come into existence in the first place? It’s like a car manufacturer lamenting that they have to spend time and resources to fit their cars with wheels 😂

Yea, you’ll go insane if you stay invested in this game. It sucks for sure but that’s why you have to just laugh at the absurdity and wait for an alternative.

I will say though, credit where it’s due. DBD is unique and without BHVR we would not have it, regardless of any misgivings, they deserve acknowledgment for that. They’ve also done some great work on licences and that can’t be taken for granted. But yea. Absolute nightmare mate.

I agree that when this game fires on all cylinders it's an absolute blast to play! There is indeed something special about DBD that keeps players coming back. But when you refuse to listen to your player base year after year, it's going to affect the game in a big way.

On Steam the all-time high amount of players was well over 100,000, today it's roughly 40,000. They lost over half of their player base, and yet they're still sticking to their guns and refusing to implement highly requested features, including fighting with their community over such nonsense like SBMM. Watching Patrick compare an asymmetrical 4v1 game to a team-based game like hockey was absurd. Not only do killers and survivors not share the same objectives, but the Killer is all on their own. Asymmetrical games are so far removed from team-based games like hockey that I don't know what he was thinking making that comparison.

Honestly, at this point it feels like the devs just want this game to crash and burn so that they can move on to other things. I've never seen a dev team like BHVR complain so consistently about how hard it would be to implement so many QOL things that are just commonplace in other games.

I want to continue playing this game, but as a solo player it just isn't any fun. These days I watch streamers play the game because I myself don't want to go through 20 matches like they do before I come across that one good match that makes DBD shine. I don't have the time or the energy for that. When I get home at the end of a long work day, I want to sit down with a game that helps to take my mind off things and entertain me, and sweating my ass off while I'm trying to learn a new killer doesn't exactly do that.

  • I think that not having chat on consoles is one of the best things about playing on console. Not seeing someone say how terrible I am, and that I should go kill myself is one of the best things about playing on console.

  • @El_Gingero said:

They just don’t want to invest the time / money. It’s a pretty basic feature that comes as standard with most multiplayer games, but what can ya do.

So long as they prioritize DLC every 3 months, there will never be anything substantial added to the game to help improve not only QOL improvements, but also it's longevity.

On Steam DBD has been steadily losing players since October. I play on PlayStation, and I too have zero incentive in wanting play anymore. I hate playing as killer because I hate sweating my ass off, which sucks because I find playing killer more fun. Personally I would love nothing more than to play the Artist who I haven't played with yet, but doing so means I have to go up against a team (possibly a SWF) with a full meta perk loadout when all I'm doing is learning. Testing out killer powers against simple bots like what can be found in the tutorial would help so much with that. Of course it's not going to prepare me for playing against real people, but it can help me to be better prepared. But for some reason BHVR doesn't want to invest any time into doing that despite bots continuing to be a highly requested feature, as it's constantly brought up in every Q&A.

I really have no faith left anymore in expecting any significant QOL improvements with this game. It takes a lot of strength just to muster up a single match a week these days.

  • I did find it interesting that in the Q&A they didn't want to say much about how different the killer to survivor ratio is. I firmly believe that there are far fewer killer players than ever before. People are tired of sweating their asses off, and SBMM has increased that experience ten fold. Very recently Otz was training a brand new player on how to play killer, and within just 4 games they were competing against players with thousands of hours under their belt. This is what new players have to look forward to. The sweat is all too real, and players are tired of it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/306071/after-6-years-why-cant-we-have-a-practice-mode

I don’t have a problem at all with this. I’d rather have the devs spend their resources on things that improve the core game itself. Building a well-functioning practice mode and the AI needed for it would take a ton of time and effort, and it wouldn’t result in a lot more people playing the game so thus not bringing in additional revenue

BHVR has a long track record of ignoring highly requested features (bots being one of them). DBD is their only game, and the fact that literally nothing about the game has changed in 6 years' time is staggering. Being able to play both with and against bots is a feature that has been commonplace with multiplayer games for decades, and saying that you don't want to implement such a feature because it takes too much work is such a non-answer. There's literally no reason good enough to not allow players to practice without needing additional players to practice with. I shouldn't have to sweat my ass off when I'm simply learning. At the very least you can let me hop into a custom match solo.

They need to interject new blood and new ideas into the game. DLC isn't enough to keep players around, and the recent Steam charts prove that.

  • @MyPagio said:

I heard the answer they gave and i was really dissapointed.

Even 15 years ago, there were AI Bots in custom maps of DOTA. I was playing without internet (15 years ago mobile internet was really expansive) and i had to chose how many AI bots i want to be with me or opponents and the scale of difficulty (Easy, Medium, Expert).

So 15 years later i can't believe that they can't add a SOLO game mode with AI Bots that you just have to choose their difficulty and experiment perks and tactics in the battle. It would be a good addiction and we will avoid the whole toxic matter in DBD.

I wish they will add this feature in the future.

Being able to add bots has been a mechanic in video games for decades now, especially in multiplayer games. Seeing BHVR talk about how hard and how much time it would take is such a non-answer that I'm tired of hearing it. They themselves have said that adding bots continues to be a highly requested feature, so why continue to ignore it? The core game for DBD hasn't changed in 6 years. You're still doing the same thing you always have. It's like a first person shooter only having deathmatch. How you can't find the time to create new game modes and add practice modes I'll never understand.

  • @zarr said:

The answer given in the Q&A was definitely disappointing. Even regardless of the fact that mobile DbD (apparently) does have a bot mode with all killers available, what players are asking about more than actual training matches is just a training mode. That is, the ability to load into any map as any killer or survivor, on your own. Bots wouldn't even have to be there, or if they were, they wouldn't have to be coded to actually play well. Let them all die to RBTs, it's not like people go into training modes to "practice" overall match flow, for that they should just go into actual matches anyway, bots will never come close to that experience. They go into training modes to learn the basics of the maps and mechanics and perhaps some fundamental principles.

It would be a trivial thing to allow players to load into custom matches offline on their own, giving them the opportunity to become familiar with and even study in detail the various maps, abilities, certain mechanics, add-ons, offerings and perks. Why is this not a thing yet? I think it's possible they dodge this question because the main reason is that they don't want players to be sitting in offline modes rather than queueing.

It was definitely interesting watching Justin say that while bots weren't off the table, it's definitely on the edge of said table. But then literally in the very next question concerning bots replacing players that disconnect, Patrick mentions how great it is to practice against bots.

It feels like so many requested features just keep getting scrapped. Every question that was asked in the stream were questions that were voted on/chosen by the players, and yet 99% of the questions either didn't receive a clear answer, or were confirmed to be scrapped altogether. They say that they listen to their community, but these Q&A seem to suggest otherwise.

  • SBMM doesn't belong in a game that relies so heavily on RNG mechanics like what DBD does. Not to mention when the 1 in the 4v1 equation is put at such a huge disadvantage thanks to the amount of communication that SWF have at their disposal, I can't blame Killers for tunneling and camping. Hit and run play styles used to be an effective tactic with a lot of killers, but thanks to perks like COH (especially in a SWF) m1 Killers hardly stand a chance anymore without playing dirty.

Steam has seen a drop in players consistently for months now, and I wager it's the same on consoles. I'm tired of sweating as killer, and I'm tired of my matches as survivor lasting less than 3 minutes because I'm hardcore tunnelled out of the game. I've always said that should this game ever have a proper bot mode, I will play that probably 90% of the time because at least I can blow off steam there, and be guaranteed to have a much more chill match.

  • I've been finding value recently in using Endearing, Brutal Strength, STBFL, and BBQ for blood points. Using a strong chase build catches survivors off guard, and has actually been more effective than I expected. Being able to stay on the heels of survivors, as well as not having to care about pallets has been a lot of fun!

  • SBMM is never going to function the way that we all want it to. Perfect example: Otz was training a new player on how to play killer, and within just four games this new player was facing off against people that had thousands of hours. It's ridiculous.

  • It sucks when that happens, but given the sweaty nature of playing killer these days, I've learned to accept it when I play survivor. With BHVR themselves admitting that kills are the only thing that determines "skill" within SBMM, the amount of things that are stacked against killer players is growing by the day.

Well coordinated SWFs with the most powerful meta perks will always be a thing, as will bad RNG layouts that can create infinite loops, but now we're throwing boons into the mix that can simply be relit over and over. I had a 20 minute match as Wraith not that long ago because the SWF made it a priority to activate circle of healing on almost every totem in the game. For every one that I snuffed out, it would just get reactivated when I was engaged in a chase. Hit and run strategies don't work anymore, which is why camping and tunneling has become all too common now.

DBD has become a mess of a game to balance, and without a big pool of killer players this game will indeed die unless something is done to reduce the sweat and the grind.

  • As killer you really need to create your own fun. Playing against a well-coordinated SWF is ridiculously brutal. When everyone is rocking the strongest meta perks, communicating your location and what you're doing at all times, including taking hits for one another, the sweat is all too real when playing killer.

I like using perks that help with the chase because regardless of the amount of slow down that I have, it will never be enough if survivors know what they're doing. Bringing a build that's able to eat through pallets and stay on their heels has proven to be more effective for me personally than any slowdown builds.

I wish they could get Robert Englund's Freddy and they did something like with Pinhead. I'd pay good money to have Freddy say "Welcome to prime time, #########" every time he hooks someone 😅

I would love that! Robert Englund has so many classic lines that I would love to see in the game: "Miss me?", "Come out and play", "Miss your wake-up call?", "How sweet fresh meat", "Welcome to my nightmare", etc.

  • As much as it would delight a lot of people to see a Robert Englund cosmetic for Freddy, there's a reason why they went with the remake over the classic: BHVR couldn't get the rights. Hopefully one day that will change, but I agree that it's really frustrating considering that every other horror icon in the game has at least one additional cosmetic whereas Freddy has none. Personally I would like to see A New Nightmare cosmetic.

  • @MrCalac123 said:

    Because they don't care.

The very thought that they can't even talk or address such a glaring issue doesn't sit well with me, and one of the reasons I don't support this game or company.

  • @brokedownpalace said:

Because Bhvr wants to pretend it isn't happening.

I guess so. Considering it's gotten out of control, how else are we to take their silence?

  • He's the only killer that can literally run out of power, which is frustrating. I think once a survivor is fully red, then the stalking capabilities should be reduced by 50% instead of being cut off altogether. I've had games where the remaining survivors left in the match were completely stalked, which turned Myers into nothing more than an m1 killer. It was really boring not having a power.

  • I agree with a large part of the DBD community in that boons need to lose their effectiveness each time their lit. Either the totem needs to be broken once it's snuffed out, or it's effectiveness needs to be reduced.

Obviously we've only seen the tip of the iceberg of what boons BHVR is capable of creating, and they need a drastic change, and soon.

  • @drpynz said:

agreed. Just had to stand and endure coming a match and all gens were 99%'d and survivors were hooking and unhooking themselves and getting flashlighted through walls. The after game chat was awful too because the cheaters were BM'ing. It's not fun to stand there and wait for this to end. This game is really becoming a freaking joke, like really, it's laughable

Yeah it's definitely sad. The fact that BHVR stepped up immediately to put an end to mods, but has done little in the way of ending cheating is just ridiculous.

  • I think the best thing to happen is for the game to automatically end once the EGC timer runs out. The fact that hackers can keep killers hostage in the game like that is ridiculous.

  • @SvarturSteinn said:

The devs have come out saying more than once they are committed to making the solo queue survivor experience to feel as rewarding as possible.

This obviously breeds a sense of entitlement and you'll come across a large player base that feels they earned their victory.

Anytime you even slightly inconvenience the players as an antagonist you'll see a large number of posts complaining about how your playstyle is unfair to them.

This sense of hindering their privileges is your bread and butter, your schadenfreude.

For ever T-bagger, for every flash light click, when you see them decry camping, tunneling, you're doing the will of the entity.

Endure, adapt, become the salt in their wounds.

Very true. Don't ever feel like you have to adhere to some survivor rule book. It's your game just as much as it is theirs. It's the Killer's objective to kill survivors, and it's the survivors' objective to do generators. How you go about getting that done is up to you, so don't let anyone make you feel bad for playing how you want to play.

  • @MyPagio said:

@SweetTerror "I've always said that if this game ever sees a proper bot mode where I can play against bots instead of human players like what can be had in the mobile version, I'll never go back to playing against human players ever again"

    My thought too...

I really don't understand why the game doesn't have a solo mode and has only multiplayer mode. This could have made things easier. And also everyone can has a good chance to learn his toon. Now, new players, just join a game, knowing nothing and face experienced players. It is not a begginer-friendly game. Only if someone has the interest to really learn the game can play it.

I have spend about 15 hours playing and more than 60 hours watching videos on YouTube and Streams just to learn how to play.

But what really annoys me it's the survivors behaviour...

I had friends that played this game that helped to show me the ropes, but I 100% agree that this game needs a proper bot mode to allow new players to practice. The tutorials barely scratch the surface of what you need to know. Not to mention practicing with Killers you've never played with before in live matches is an abysmal experience. It's like being thrown into the deep end of the pool when you don't know how to swim.

  • The thing you have to realize is that Killers are no longer a threat like they once were. Survivors have increased exponentially in strength over the years, and SWF capabilities only solidify that.

To make matters worse, it's gotten to the point to where some survivors treat the Killer like they're their own personal plaything, something that exists for their amusement and enjoyment, and some players can be really toxic about it. I legitimately believe that it's a one of the reasons why hacking and cheating has grown so rampant with this game. The balancing for this game is all over the place, and people have grown tired of being destroyed over and over again.

SBMM and the grind in general have made dead by daylight a hard pill for new players to swallow, and the toxicity that exists can be downright unbearable sometimes. Sadly until changes are implemented for the better, you'll just have to grow thicker skin if you want to play it, because few games can be as toxic as this one. I've always said that if this game ever sees a proper bot mode where I can play against bots instead of human players like what can be had in the mobile version, I'll never go back to playing against human players ever again. LOL

  • Honestly the only thing that ever bugged me was the fact that Pinhead could break his own chains by walking through them. More often than not you're having to walk through your chains, and the fact that you can literally sandbag your own power is utterly ridiculous. I don't know why that hasn't been changed yet.

  • How hard is it for BHVR to implement a change that would have the match end after the EGC? The fact that hackers can keep killers locked into a match indefinitely is ridiculous. Matchmaking penalty shouldn't exist when such a thing happens.

  • Hackers that take the game hostage like that is ridiculous. Simply put, the devs could easily implement a fail safe that allows players to disconnect upon the EGC ending that doesn't result in a penalty. Granted there needs to be a lot more done, but currently that's something that could easily be done for the interim.

  • @Marc_go_solo said:

I feel now is around the time it needs to be making changes to its core and expanding on the gameplay aspect. Effectively, redesign the game in terms of challenges, objectives, the state of the trials, map-layouts and some new objectives for both sides.

Completely agree that this game is not dying, but there is a growing sense that the formula is becoming stale, and the game may face some huge problems moving forwards if it refuses to change, especially now more companies enter the asymmetrical realms and have time to expand and develop.

Obviously, the changes can't be drastic, and recent holiday additions they made like the pumpkins (which have huge potential to come back as something else), Snowmen (great to see a new idea, even if sided towards survivors than killers, but still nice to develop on), and that rebuilding totems and boons (again, alterations needed, but applaud the idea of something different) have shown that smaller changes are possible to be made fairly easily, so larger ones can be developed over time.

If the team go forwards with new ideas and changes, whether good or not so good, it'll be exciting to see the changes and will bring people in to see how it works. Make people come back for significant tweaks, objectives or changes, as well as the new chapters. It's worth the risk.

I agree. There was a lot of positive feedback from the pumpkins and the snowmen because it was something different, and something different is what players have been asking for. The state of the game has grown very stale, and BHVR needs to not only implement new ideas, but they seriously need to focus on the health of their game.

For example, cheating and hacking has run rampant, and it's absolutely ridiculous how easy it has become to hack this game. Hackers shouldn't be able to take the game hostage, but they do. BHVR needs to take 6 months off from releasing content and fix their game, and maybe while they're at it, start planning some new ideas to help shake things up.

I'm convinced DBD is a revolving door of players.

Most people who have been playing for years are in the vast vast minority. I'd wager most of the current playerbase (say, 60%) joined AFTER Trickster released.

    But that's just speculation.

I'm a firm believer in that as well. Most people that stream this game for a living do so only because they're getting paid. That's not to put DBD down, it's just a simple fact that playing a game with only one mode for multiple hours day in and day out would drive anyone nuts. If it wasn't for the money, there wouldn't be an audience to reach out to.

  • @Myla said:

Actually new killers is what the kept the game is alive believe it or not. Ever wondered why this game somehow lived despite being in a God awful state ages ago? That's how. I think you're just bored at the game, It's been five years after all. Five years is a long time for a game like DBD so if the game suddenly tanked in player base they pretty much got their money's worth off this game.

By the way I'm just being logical about this, I want an Operation Health for the game as well but the playerbase would probably decline by then lol.

That's just it though, new content will always bring players back, but it's not enough to keep them playing. Sure DBD has managed to hold on to its loyal players, but it hasn't been able to build onto that base either.

Like I said, the game isn't dying. There's never been a mass exodus of players, but there hasn't been exponential growth either, and a big part of that has to do with lack of competition. There are quite a few asymmetrical games on the horizon, and if just one of those games can manage to pull away any of DBD's player base, then that competition will only yield good things for the future of dead by daylight. Games need more than new content to keep it alive, there needs to be innovation too.

    1) It isn't a Christmas event, it's a winter event. Not once has any of the winter events been referred to as a Christmas event. BHVR is particular in their phrasing because they're aware not everyone in the community celebrates Christmas for one reason or another (primarily religious reasons I'd imagine).

For example, 2017's and 2018's winter events were specifically referred to as 'Winter Solstice', 2020 was "Advent Calender' and 2021 was 'Season of Giving' & 'Bone Chill'. None of which are 'Christmas Event', yet all of which can apply to other festive traditions besides the Christian one. Having specifically Christmas elements (which are a thing, don't get me wrong) does not change that.

    2) There's nothing to 'defend'. The event wasn't "cancelled", it ended on the specified date that we knew about before it even begun. I suppose people are upset that BHVR is adhering to their originally planned event timeframe and haven't extended it in compensation for a mistake, like they did for Halloween?

To be fair this wasn't called a winter solstice event either. It's fine if BHVR wants to refer to this as a "holiday event", but it's a little odd to end it days before the most recognized and celebrated holiday in the world. Regardless I just found the meme funny. This was in no way meant to get anyone up in arms over, especially on Christmas.

I don't know if I'll ever be able to give up my addiction to Brutal. Pallets are the strongest "weapon" survivors have against killers, and anything that helps to lessen that pain is hard to pass up! Generators fly no matter what slowdown you have these days so it's not uncommon for me to focus entirely on the chase. Most builds for me these days usually includes BBQ (for blood points), Brutal, Endearing, and STBFL.

Killer has really hit a breaking point for me since boon totems.

You do feel very much like the survivor's plaything in DBD these days. Considering just how inept a well coordinated SWF can make a killer feel is absolutely ridiculous.

  • Instead of putting so much work into add-ons, Freddy needs to go back to more of what he used to be. He didn't need a major rework. The dream world is what gives him his power, and the fact that the only thing he's capable of doing is throwing down a snare OR a pallet (why not both?) is really disappointing. And don't even get me started on the fact that survivors can now see him when they're awake.

its also not JUST swf, once survivors start playing efficient by splitting on gens, tanking hits, looping and chaining tiles very smart together then its just a nightmare. It doesnt feel like you outplay them, you wait for them to do a mistake.

Very sad, and very true. Make one mistake as the Killer and it can cost you the entire match, whereas with survivor you can make a plethora of mistakes and have your team be there to cover you. I think it also goes to show just how heavily this game favors survivors. When killer players with high MMR can't hold a candle to a high MMR swf, then something is indeed broken.

  • Killer is not fun at all right now. Killer players with high MMR are playing less and less, which forces higher MMR survivors to play with lower MMR killers, so the sweat is being felt across the board. Something needs to be done, because it's not just higher efficiency that players need to be concerned about, but also playing against things like stretch res, hacking, and SWF has pretty much stopped any fun to be had with killer.

  • The sad reality is that Killers with high MMR are playing less and less, which means all these high MMR survivors are being matched against lower MMR killers. I've lost count on how many matches I've played where I was lucky to get more than one hook. Everybody's feeling the pain, and unless BHVR does something about it, then this game truly will die without a steady player base of killers.

  • Devour hope simply because it's all but a guarantee that the Killer is going to tunnel you to be sure that they can get as many stacks as possible.

  • Twins need their nerf taken away

    Wraith needs his lunge back

Myers needs to be able to break through pallets faster at tier 3 as well as not being able to run out of stalk

My poor Freddy needs a drastic overhaul (preferably to where he used to be in the beginning)

Trickster and Deathslinger need their movement speeds increased

Nemesis needs to be able to injure upon infection OR take away the sprint burst

Bloody hell I could be here all day... LOL

  • The list of nerfs given to Killers just keeps getting bigger: Freddy, Twins, Deathslinger, Spirit, Wraith, Artist, etc, and has made playing Killer in this joke of a matchmaking system an absolute chore. What's sad is that I'll watch a fun streamer match that will excite me to play DBD, until I realize that it took that streamer a good 10 to 20 matches just to get one worthy of uploading to YouTube.

  • Enjoy it while it lasts. Once you come across survivors that are good at looping and that know how to properly avoid his line of sight, you'll realize that you've lost one to two generators before you even hit tier 2. Not to mention he's the only killer that can literally run out of power. I've been in matches before where the last standing survivor/s couldn't be stalked anymore, which means you become just a standard m1 killer.

The issue isn't so much SWF. I completely understand that people want to play with their friends and yuck it up over Discord.

The problem is that, unlike other games, SWF teams are matched at the same MMR that they would be solo - which is where the really obnoxious stomps start coming from. And then you get the SWFs that aren't just out to win - they are out to actively hurt the killer, by bringing setups that allow them to essentially take the game hostage and stall it out indefinitely, as so long as it's technically possible for the killer to win it's permitted, but the killer can still potentially be banned for going AFK and will get a DC penalty if they DC out.

And that would definitely surprise no one. My MMR as killer is incredibly low given how little I play these days, but when I do, I have to sweat like I've never had to before, and that's because high MMR survivors that are playing with their lower MMR friends are being matched with players like myself because I'm the "happy medium", and that shouldn't be the case. Playing killer among all levels just isn't fun anymore.

This goes back to the devs (unfortunately) wanting to make the game “semi-cooperative”. Had they made the game actually be a team of four survivors versus one killer and given a clear win condition based on that then they likewise would have had matchmaking work off how the survivors as a team going up or down in MMR based on how many of them escaped rather than individually each going up or down based on their own individual escapes. That would allow, for example, a group of survivors where one dies but took so long to kill everybody else got out to all go up in MMR versus the sacrificed survivor going down and everybody else going up,

It’s too bad that horse is out the barn door, if DbD was fully cooperative on the survivor’s side it might have avoided a lot of these sorts of complaints I think.

I truly believe that DBD was designed to mirror the last survivor experience that you see in horror movies since the game wasn't designed with voice chat. It's what helps to play into the "everybody's out for themselves" mentality. But SWF blows that out of the water thanks to voice chat being allowed through third party apps. It's why survivors are very much the power role in DBD. No killer has a perk that can match being fed so much information.

Probably because the team will be off for a bit leading up to the new year. Would look weird having a holiday event during the new year.

Even so, it doesn't mean that the game goes offline until the team is back from break. You would think that they could program the event to end after the 25th.
