  • It would be a little backwards to have that, to be fair. The biggest thing for a killer is building up pressure early on. You'd ideally like to be as strong as possible as soon as possible. Getting stronger with each hook/kill is neat on paper, but in practice, it just means that you're weak when you need to down people the fastest and way stronger than you need to be when there's only one or two survivors left. At that point, the ball is already in your court. You don't need to be crazy strong when there's only two people left, it'd be overkill. Having someone dead on its own skews things in your favour massively; that's one less person that can do gens or go for a save.

There are some perks that work that way, though, if that's what you're after. Devour Hope, Dying Light, Huntress Lullaby, Thanataphobia, etc.

    @Grimbergoth said:

because the company is the in the business of making money and they don't want to tick off survivors by adding a killer who with a mori would make the game harder and harder . if you have played this long enough you would see a trend , they only really hit survivors with big nerfs when the survivor ques get long because no one is playing killer because the games are so one sided . But to keep the appearance of equality they do small things constantly to survivors while completely redoing killers for "the better" .

Take the freddy rework , he was considered one of the worst killers in the game , yet they kept talking about how he was so unfair to survivors , now he is a bit more powerfull and easier to play but he is also weaker then the right build with the right addons were on old freddy . Class photo and pill bottle that would give you a extended 2 mins sleep timer and the ability to see all the others auras , you just chained them to sleep and chased down the last survivor . this was better then ruin , and using other aura perks like bbq and nurse you could see all survivors almost all the time . that is why they changed him and his add ons . If survivors cant deal with it they change it , plain and simple .

the nurse changes , she is still a valid killer but dependant like freddy was on add ons , you can boost her speed to normal killer speed but loose the ability to blink through objects , so if you run the right perk and add ons she will be considered overpowered still because she can still use blink to catch a survivor in the open . next im sure will be spirit .

Meanwhile the survivors get nerfs to things like insta heal which if you had to rely on one item to make or break the game then you need to play better , its not like they are changing the whole basekits on survivors , they haven't realy fixed totems placement but instead added survivors the ability to find and locate them easier and even perks for destroying them giving a added bonus to something they should want to do . they are giving them more and more ability to aura read killers or counter aura reads .

You have to understand that BHVR wants to make money and in a 4 v 1 game you don't want to make massive changes to the 4 and run the risk of killing your income , if you run off killer mains the odds are they will become survivors or you just run a free to play and sale to get new killers in , easier to replace 10k killers then 50k survivors , plus to be honest new blood means new money potential . So if you want a high turn over rate its in the killers not the survivors .

That's a very interesting perspective, but no, that's not the case. There's actually an excess of killers right now, so that theory is already right out the window. Killer queue times on average tend to be longer than survivor queue times (outside of Japan) at the moment. Beyond that, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by base kit nerfs for survivors. Survivors don't have powers that you can change, only perks. Most of the survivor perks have been nerfed significantly over the years, and even the basics such as vaulting have been toned down dramatically. Even the level design has shifted to more unsafe pallets.

I could grab you some old footage to show you how much things have changed, if you like, but choosing to ignore anything that doesn't support your point doesn't strengthen your case.

  • For what it's worth, you can actually see who was playing who on the tally screen, it's just a little hidden away. I can't remember the exact steps (I can't say I use this often), but if you click on the gear icon, there's a tab that shows the 'pause' screen with offerings and each player's name and character.

Putting it directly on the tally screen would be a nice QoL change, but it would be a fairly low priority.

  • The reasoning is actually pretty simple; the splinter just switches you to a killer even if you don't own it. If you don't own it, you won't have any perks equipped on them, so you won't have any perks when the match starts. If you end up buying a killer, equip some perks on them and then go back and use a splinter, you'll actually start the match with the perks you've equipped on them.

Splinters have been discontinued when the in-game store was added. The existing ones are still there, but since you can now buy a killer for shards, they're a little redundant and clutter the bloodweb.

Just out of curiosity, would someone in that scenario be able to nominate, say, a friend who does play the game to receive their prize instead?

We would apply the cells to whichever ID you give us, but once we add them, they're stuck there. We can't undo it and put them on a different account instead. Although selling the prize would be a big no-no.

  • It'll be at 2pm ET, I can confirm. The same time as usual.

  • We went over how the matchmaking works here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/92295/

In this case, you are within 6 ranks of the killer, so it would be a valid match. This would only happen if the game is unable to find survivors closer to their rank- it would rather give you a match over waiting an hour for the perfect match. There's also an exception for new players (above rank 15) to ensure that the get a match regardless of how many other new players are playing at that time.

  • @YaiPa said:

Long story short: the more a character is used, the less in-game currency outfits there will be. Like nea, kate, billy is the most used killer of all, since it’s easy to use, even by survivors main.

That has nothing to do with it. The Hillbilly isn't even the most frequently used killer, that's The Trapper- and he's got one that's available for shards. Same for the survivor side, Claudette and Meg both have very rare outfits available for shards. It's purely down to coincidence.

  • You could, although without an account, we wouldn't be able to deliver your prize. You would be doing so purely for fun.

  • Anything in the game is fine, it just means that you can't go and slap Tracer from Overwatch in there or something like that.

  • We would rather have the content that affects gameplay be cheaper and more accessible. Cosmetics are nice to have, but they're a luxury. You can get them if you want, but you're not missing out if you don't have them.

The game is literally survivors being kidnapped and brought into the entity's realm to be tortured. With the way things are...it's literally the opposite if you aren't playing has the Spirit, Hillbilly or iri-Huntress.

If we want to go into lore, the Entity feeds on hope. Giving the killer a free kill does not feed the Entity- it would literally be taking away all the hope that survivor has. It has no reason to do so.

  • We are aware, yes. Decisive Strike makes someone the obsession, but not necessarily the person who has it equipped.

Again ... I'm repeating myself ... THIS IS THE POINT OF THE WHOLE GAME!

Well no, the point of the game is for you to chase, catch, and kill the survivors. The point of the hatch is to prevent the game from never ending so you can move on to the next match and continue to chase, catch, and kill survivors. Giving you a free kill for no reason would be silly.

  • The hatch is there to prevent the world's longest game of hide and seek. Either the survivor finds the hatch and you leave with a 3k (you won), or you find the hatch and close it and the survivor dies to the EGC (you also won).

Giving the killer a free kill doesn't prevent the game from being held hostage, that's purely to give the killer a free kill. There would be no point to adding something like that.

  • This was an oversight while setting up the contest- we used the same rules that we typically use for screenshot contests, but since the event starts a little later than normal, it makes it a little tricky/confusing. We've removed the "Halloween event" requirement. You can enter at any point during the contest period.

Look, we all know this, I asked when for a reason, not for you to give me a bs answer that everyone gives, if you don't know, don't comment.

    ... soon™.

There is no date for it yet. It'll be out in time for the Halloween event since a big part of the event this year is tied into The Archives.

I actually figured out the perfect rhythm to gen tap most efficiently on ps4. Not quickly but when you get to 15 blood points, release and repeat. In a team stop at 28 and repeat. Even though it’s slower, it negates all affects of missing ruin skill checks

You don't really negate the effects though. The point of Ruin is to make the generator slower. You instead made the generator slower. It's the same thing in the end.

  • You could toss on Self Care if you really want to be as meta as possible. Inner Strength sounds a little overpowered in that build. You'll always know that you have previously cleansed a totem.

  • Absolutely nothing. Camping is not bannable and so those reports get tossed out. We never ban for the number of reports alone.

  • The reason why you didn't see any activity from our team is because BHVR is a Canadian company and last weekend was Thanksgiving in Canada. We were off spending time with our families. We're still around quite a bit during the week.

How to I submit the art

You just need to post it in the contest subforum: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/artwork-contest-

  • I think you pretty much answered your own question right there. You could, but it's frowned upon, so odds are you won't win with it.

As for the artwork, you can, but the same idea applies for the above. Trying to turn something you've already made into a Halloween themed artwork is probably going to get overshadowed by something new for this specifically (unless you're just that great).

It's been stated over and over that the GameUserSettings.ini file is only a settings file and is not checked by EAC. I was weary about it myself at first. If you search for "GameUserSettings.ini" on this forum there are over 130 posts talking about changing settings in this file. It's one of the main ways improve performance on lower end PC's.

@Peanits would it be possible to get dev confirmation on this so that everyone can be on the same page and I'll have a post to refer to when this gets brought up?

Inji knows what she's talking about. We cannot guarantee that it's safe to do. It's purely down to the anti-cheat.

  • Regarding #3 specifically: This is actually a very intentional change. Since Deep Wounds now pause in the terror radius rather than in a chase, being able to see the progress on Deep Wounds would basically give you a built in Whispers. This is more of a Deep Wounds thing than a Legion thing, though, it would affect every killer across the board, not just The Legion.

  • I'd say teammates for the simple reason that leaving someone to die the first time they get hooked is probably going to backfire. That's one fewer person who can work on generators or go for the save for the rest of the game.

Although it really depends on the situation. If you're at a standstill and keep trading saves, the better option is probably to do a generator while things settle.

  • It's not so much that perks were forced to appear, it's more like two perks were rerolled. There was an issue with Aftercare and Wake Up! that caused them to be unobtainable, so we had two new perks randomly selected and swapped them out. We try not to influence it as much as possible.

Sorry I know your a busy person thank you for commenting its appreciated could you possibly confirm that the battle pass will not be in anyway locked to those that do not own certain characters.

It's nice to know we can get the perks on the shrine but I really would like to know that we will not forced to buy killers we do not wish to just to progress in the challenges.

Thank you and no worries if you do not reply I'm sure your notifications are always on fire lol

just worth a shot to get the information in regards to my original question. Will restore some faith and doubts I have towards that battle pass.

Thank you for your hard work on the forums also.

    🐷💖

This first one focuses mostly on Claudette and the Trapper, so they'll be available to everyone. However, future Tome may feature challenges that require other characters (or their perks). It's something we're keeping in mind and discussing, I can't really give you a solid answer just yet. If we stick to just free characters, the types of challenges you can have are way more limited. If you open it up to other characters, you can have much more diverse challenges, but then you risk leaving people out.

  • There's not really anything to fix. The whole point of Ruin is to slow generators down until it's cleansed. If they're tapping the generator, they're going way slower than they could be without Ruin. They would be much better off just going for the great skill checks, even if they do miss a few and get goods instead.

There was a video floating around a while back showing a generator without gen tapping and a generator with gen tapping side by side. The one that was being tapped took way longer (> 30 seconds longer, IIRC).

  • @NoShinyPony said:

@Brawler Who said the shrine works totally RNG-based? 😎

It isn't 100% RNG. It picks random perks within a certain set of rules. More procedural than RNG. Although we are able to force certain perks to show up if need be, as we did when an error caused a few perks to be unobtainable from the shrine in the past. We don't do this unless it's absolutely necessary (to my knowledge, that has been the only time we've ever used that so far).

  • @YamiTheFurry said:

    @Peanits @not_Queen @Patricia Anythoughts on this Idea?

Puking blight probably wouldn't be possible. It's important to be able to distinguish between vile and corrupt purge. Changing the colours would get in the way of that.

  • I don't know how much of an effect this would have. Good players know that using it for distance is the most effective way. If you use it for distance, you never have to be in hitting distance to begin with (exception being the Huntress). The only difference is that it would be weaker if it's used to dodge a hit, which already has counterplay.

  • I would scrap the "Once a Survivor is hooked" part, otherwise it could be used to tunnel that one guy. Having it apply to the unhooker is great, though, and would combo very well with Make Your Choice.

I don't see the need to disguise it as a dull totem, though. It might as well light up like any other hex perk, otherwise it would be unintuitive. Someone who's learning the game wouldn't know that this particular hex perk doesn't actually appear like a hex totem.

  • Are you playing with a higher ranked friend? If so, that is working as intended. The details of the matchmaking system can be found here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/92295/

If you notice something outside of those rules, please grab a screenshot of the ranks, write down roughly when it happened and fill out a bug report. We'll take a look and see what's going on. It shouldn't happen, but if there are edge cases out there, we're going to see if we can fix them.

(Disregard this if you're on the PTB: The game isn't nearly as picky over there, it'll give you whoever it can get.)

  • Just because the event hasn't started yet. Once the event starts and they can be obtained through the event, they'll become event rarity.

  • He has the same movement speed as any other killer (4.6m/s). He won't catch up any faster than the Trapper, for example.

  • Spine Chill and Premonition do work against Undetectable. Undetectable only blocks aura reading, hides your terror radius, and hides your red stain. These perks do not rely on aura reading and so they still work. This is also what the perks are for, after all; detecting the Killer.

  • To play devil's advocate, if they did have collision, they could just hit you from behind at that same window. Only differences are that they would hit you from behind rather that in front and they would know you were there instead of having to guess.

  • Q: With The Nurse's add-ons being tweaked, will you now shift your add-on focus to other characters (Doc, Pig, Legion, etc.)?

Yes. A list of Killers we would like to revisit can be found here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/77678

We cannot give dates on when these changes will happen, but we can share some information on which killers we are looking to update. We will be taking a look at the Nurse and her add-ons (primarily her add-ons) and the Doctor. We would also like to review the chainsaw killers, the Shape, and the Pig, and more. Some may receive smaller changes or add-on passes while other may see more significant changes.

Q: Will items on The Rift become available for purchase after the rift expires? And if so, will they only be available for Auric Cells?

Some of the items on The Rift will be purchasable after The Rift closes. We are still discussing internally how we would like to handle this. We would like to make it as fair as possible to everybody (people who have earned them, people who didn't have a chance to earn them).

Q: Now that Undetectable has been added to The Shape, do Premonition and Spine Chill still not work against him?

Premonition and Spine Chill will work against The Shape. Previously Evil Within 1 would provide immunity to all detection perks. This would have made him an outlier from all other stealth Killers who instead gained the Undetectable status effect. To make sure he behaves the same as other stealth Killers, this condition was also swapped to the Undetectable effect.

Undetectable does not block all detection perks. Rather, it blocks aura reading, hides your terror radius, and also hides your red stain. This means that Spine Chill and Premonition will work against Michael Myers. As a trade-off, he will now have no terror radius in Evil Within 1 (down from the previous 6 meters).

Q: Is the lore in The Archives going to be videos, or text, or both? And will lore from Rift 1 still be available to view/read when a new Rift opens?

Both. All lore is held in Tomes, not The Rift. Tomes remain active forever; you can complete old ones at any time to unlock their lore. Old Tomes will not grant Rift Fragments to future Rifts, however.

Q: Since Putrid Serum is found in The Rift this year, does that mean we can collect it until the next Rift? Or will Putrid Serum be removed from The Rift after the Withered Blight ends?

Putrid Serum will remain in The Rift until it closes.

Q: What happens when rift closed? Will you update in this date or will be closed until the next update?

No update is required for a Rift to close, much like how new store content does not require and update each week.

Q: Why was the PTB's rift a little over 50 days when the rifts are supposed to last 70 days?

The date in The Rift on the PTB does not accurately reflect the actual end date. This is purely for testing purposes. It will last 70 days when the update goes live following the PTB.

Q: Can you please consider extending the event until Monday morning November 4th? This will give people with busy schedules during the "work week" two weekends to work on objectives instead of just one.

The event period is purely for the items in the bloodweb and the special event generators and hooks. Putrid Serum remains in The Rift following the event and can be earned at your own pace. Any unspent Serum will expire two weeks after The Rift closes.

Q: If I start making progress on the free track, then later decide to switch to the premium track, will the premium items from the levels I already unlocked be available?

Yes, you'll receive all of the premium track rewards from the tiers you have completed the instant you buy the premium pass. You do not need to purchase the pass right away to get all of the rewards; you can hold off until you feel comfortable with the rewards you'll receive.

  • The sound is a placeholder. It'll be changed for the proper release.

  • It is intentional. You need to see a certain amount of them for stalking to work. If you can only see a tiny sliver of the survivor, you won't be able to stalk.

  • You can spend the 1000 Cells you earn from the Rift however you want, whether that's on other outfits or on the next Rift. Totally up to you.

  • @Theoretical_Heart said:

It's most likely a bug. They recently nerfed Object of Obsession to make it not a hard counter to stealth.

So this is likely just a bug. Like gens not being audible through walls.

Not quite a bug. Myers was changed to have Undetectable in EW1 along with several other killers. That means his aura cannot be read, he has no terror radius, and he has no stain. However, that also means that he is not immune to detection perks (aura reading aside).

    This is to:

    1. Make him consistent with other stealth killers.
    2. Make those perks do what they're intended to do.

Short version, not a bug, just a result of a different change.

  • I cannot confirm one way or the other. The Rift and Archives are on the PTB first for testing. It could change between now and live. Regardless, you'll be able to see the full contents by checking The Rift in-game before you decide to buy anything.

  • You'll still be able to earn two full outfits (or six parts) when the event starts later this month.

  • You don't have to agree with them, but everyone is absolutely within their rights to say something is annoying. Annoying does not mean too powerful, it means annoying. You can't tell them that they aren't annoyed by her. That's not something that you can really debate.

That'd be like you saying you're annoyed by keys, and then someone comes in and goes, "No you're not."

A question, will this change when the patch is officially released? It is true! It works now!

    Thx!

We'll be looking into fixing that for release, but it would be a lower priority over bigger issues. We do not officially support disabling v-sync at the moment (there is no option in-game) and doing so is considered to be at your own risk. Tinkering with settings that we don't support can cause some unintended side effects.
