That's kinda bad tbh. No way a rank 10 killer can stand up too red ranked survivors. I understand having some leeway too get people in matches, but I can't see an average green ranked killer standing any chance against average red ranked survivors.
This tends to only happen in the worst case scenario. It'll look for closer survivors if possible, but if it can't, it'll take what it can get. The alternative is not getting a game at all.

5 and 13 is a range of 8 not 6. So it's still not the appropriate ranks.
Though it is pretty close to be fair.
It's a range of 6 between the killer and any given survivor (barring SWF, which may drag a newer player into a high ranked lobby). So as a rank 10 killer, they could get survivors between rank 4 - 16 (depending on how long they are waiting).

Nothing is ever truly off the table.
But I will say that it's not what's happening here. This is just so we can share it on social. We have the same terms in the Submissions section of the forums.

Has the team considered incorporating player creations into the game or is that generally off the table?
It has happened in the past. The Rogi mask for the Trapper was actually a community creation.
With that said, though, chase music is a little bit more complicated than just sticking a song in there. There are a whole bunch of different pieces that the game blends together. The Demogorgon is a good example of this, you can hear the different stages of terror radius and finally the chase music. Michael Myers is the same way. The versions you hear on Spotify (etc.) and before livestreams are edited together specifically for those purposes.

I really thought that they would remove the third blink. Forgot that there was an achievement for that. Her addons will still be broken in the next patch then :) Good job devs.
Thanks!
Just to clarify, these changes aren't in yet. If any achievements needed to change, they would change once the changes are actually out, not several weeks before.

They are still live, yes. There's no set end time just yet, we'll be turning them on once we have enough data and feedback.

Do devs always define rank 1 as highest rank? It's like that in the patch notes too and confuses me when I try to discuss the new matchmaking. Most just say highest skill, lowest rank for rank 1.
Just wanna make sure I'm not using the wrong term and confusing people when I discuss on the forums.
Yes. It's always a little confusing. Highest normally means "the best you can possibly achieve", but since ranks count downwards, highest ends up being 1 (the lowest number). Meanwhile if we call it the lowest rank, then it can be interpreted as 20, the rank you start at.
But for our purposes, 1 is highest, 20 is lowest.

It is indeed very typical of a procedural system to select a random assortment of perks. Expecting it to show up because a different perk showed up would be silly.

Why would you even consider dropping a pallet to begin with? Nurse is all about LOS breaking and mind games
She blinks, you run through a pallet, she blinks past the pallet, so you run back the other way and drop it. It creates a barrier that stops her from turning around and lunging at you.
Shocked pikachu if she had a third blink up her sleeve the whole time.
It's not super practical or a meta strategy or anything, but it can work and it's a nice way to get some extra points.
-
They are teachable perks at the moment. They will appear in the shrine just like any other perk for the time being while we work on getting Leatherface added to the Switch.

Thank You! Developer logic really is biased and it shows. @Peanits
I don't know what to tell you. In the first post I made this thread, I acknowledged both sides, the pros and cons of each, and mentioned that there is no definite right answer- both sides have a valid point. That's about as unbiased as you can get. Pointing at something and saying "bias" doesn't win an argument (especially when we're not even arguing).

She does not. This changed when her ambush was updated to be considered a special attack a few updates ago.

It is intentional. STBFL only works on basic attacks. Shred and ambush are not considered basic attacks.

With that logic Legacy skins should be in the store
But we know it's not going to happen, those people earned it through grind
Oh wait, so did we in all the events :P
And "legacy back when" is still one of the most frequently asked questions to this day. I see the point you're trying to make, but there's a reason why we tend to avoid doing things that way nowadays.
-
The simplest answer I can possibly give; there's no perfect way to do it.
If it's exclusive to the event, people who didn't start playing until after the event (or people who were unable to play during the event) miss out.
If it's available all the time, it feels a little less special to the people who did earn it.
Some are going to prefer one way, some are going to prefer the other. Being able to earn it for free still means you get something for free, at least, so that tends to be the safest compromise. You still get something for you efforts, but you're not left out if you really want that outfit and couldn't play.
-
@humanbeing1704 said:
please tell me they are gutting omegablink thers's literally zero courterplay to that
It's one of the examples we gave. Right now, it just increases range without increasing charge time. This means you can go, "Oops, I accidentally touched the blink button and ended up in a different timezone." The reason why this becomes a problem is because it greatly reduces the window of time the survivor has to run away and break line of sight, allowing the Nurse to catch back up much quicker, reducing the amount of counterplay.
After the change, the charge time is going to be increased as well. This means that you can still go super far, but you're going to have to spend the time charging your blink. This way, you keep the counterplay, but you still have the utility of being able to blink around the map quickly.
Short version: It's not so much the range that's an issue. The further you blink, the more time the survivor has to react and the lower your chances of actually hitting them. The bigger issue was being able to charge a blink way faster than you could without the omegablink add-ons.
The silver lining: It won't completely destroy your muscle memory.

What's this part about "at the Entity's disccression I agree at any time to be taken to the Entity's realm and partake as a survivor, to cleanse totems and repair generators". Did none of you guys read it all the way through?
Don't worry about that, that's in pretty much any EULA. Standard practice.
-
Just patience. The closer you are to someone before attacking the better. If they aren't going to make the window/pallet anyway, you have nothing to lose. The second or so that you'll lose by running after them vs. lunging is nothing compared to the amount of time you'll lose by missing and having to catch back up.
As far as hitting quick attacks go, there's not much I can say to help you there. That's just down to practice.

Why would it be a nerf?
The idea of an RBT is to slow people down, force them to do something other than a generator. But since you have 2:30 to search four boxes, you can easily afford to do a generator first and then search for your key. It's much more efficient this way since you don't need to waste time searching every inch of the map for boxes. The thing that's meant to slow down generators suddenly makes doing a generator the optimal way to approach it.
Nothing against it if you want to run the add-on. If you like it, go nuts. But it's not for everyone and I don't think it should be forced on everyone.
-
@Ihatelife said:
Because @Peanits thinks that it would be a nerf to her.

Predicting new players when I'm playing Huntress. Seriously, if you ever want to ruin a Huntress' day, just run in a straight line. They will not expect it.

If I made it to the stairs and you aren't wiggling...why would I not hook you to the basement ?
Also, I was talking from a survivor pov. Idk if you got that since you gave me a killer example.
There'd be no reason not to. If they aren't wiggling.
If they are and you don't think you can make it, then you would do this. This used to be especially popular back when DS activated at 35%. You would quickly run over to a drop and keep your left side up against it just in case. If they did have DS, they would fall, stagger, and get downed again.
(You could also juggle the obsession over to the stairs if they were close.)
Point being, if you're the survivor in that situation and the killer does that, you'd want to stop wiggling. Either they stand there forever waiting for you to wiggle or they move so you don't stagger.
-
@TheUnendingNightmare said:
Honestly I don't even know why we press a key. They could make it an automatic action and it wouldn't change much.
It gives you more control. A neat little bit of tech you can do is stand above the basement stairs (with the stairs on your left) if you don't think you'll make it to the hook. If the survivor isn't running balanced landing, they'll fall and stagger, allowing you to mostly recover from the stun by the time they get back to the top. The survivor can counter that by not wiggling out. That forces the killer to either keep moving, or sit there forever as generators pop off. Making it automatic wouldn't allow you to stop wiggling until the killer moves.
It's a bit of a niche example, but there's a few places where it can come in handy.
-
The elephant in the room, because if you removed wiggling, the killer could just carry you forever. If you ever got downed, you would be guaranteed to die. They could just stare at a corner and wait for the EGC.
But also because if you couldn't wiggle, you'd get put in the basement against Leatherface every time.
As to why you should, because you have a chance to escape. I've had a bunch of times where I've managed to wiggle because someone jumped in front at the last second and took a hit. You don't want to be that guy that doesn't wiggle when someone takes a hit for you.
-
A couple different reasons, but the main ones are:
- Players who don't play for a while will be a lower rank when they come back. This way, they don't come back after a year long hiatus facing the best killers/survivors out there, they ease back into things.
- It helps keep people where they should be. Particularly when playing survivor (and especially when ranking was based on bloodpoints), it's possible to rank up higher than you should just by getting good teams. Rank resets bring people back down a little so they don't end up in a range above where they're comfortable.
The short version, while it may not always be perfect, it stops everyone from being permanently stuck at rank 1 - 4, leaving the rest of the ranks barren (making queue times super long for anyone outside that range).
-
@Kilmeran said:
@MissKitty95 There's something going on since the hotfix. Either a majority of the new players are all in SWF with high ranked friends, or as you pointed out with Nea being solo, it's still screwed to high hell.
My son is Rank 18, sits in 15+ minute Killer queues since the hotfix. I am rank 15, sit in 15+ minute Killer queues since the hotfix.
Ever since the hotfix, the lower ranked queues have become lobby simulators on PC. Right now, I am heading back to Overwatch. I'm lucky to get two matches an hour here since 3.2.1. Until something changes that, there's no use even logging into the game. I'll barely be able to play any matches.
@Peanits Is there any word from the Dev team as to why this happened beginning with 3.2.1?
For the screenshot in the OP, the low ranked players were likely playing with one (or both) of the rank 8 players. The matchmaking uses the highest rank in the party for matchmaking purposes now (since the 3.2.1 hotfix). We're currently reviewing the impact this has had on matchmaking and gameplay.

Well than, let's see a common situation associated with taping gens.
You are at springwood, playing killer and you have a generator besides the tall brown fence right next to the school with the white window loop. That generator was at 90%, but you kiced it before and now it's regressing and is around 74%. Than you suddenly find a wild Bill between the back of the school and the 2 story house. He decides to run for the white fence and from there, start using the pallets in the building. While runing to the fence's window, he spots the regressing gen, taps it, and still makes it to the window before you could hit him because it took him nearly no time to do that. Than you either kick that gen again for the cost of losing him, or continue the chase knowin that the generator stays at 74% and anyone could quickly finish it even if you catch and hook that Bill with PGTW ready to smash.
Overcharge works as long as they aren't prepared for the skillcheck. But even if they hit it, that's a free and undeserved tap.
In this scenario, you're worried that someone might get on the gen and finish it. Even if it didn't stop regressing, they would still be able to get on the generator and finish it. It's only going to regress at 0.25 charges/second. Unless the Bill manages to waste a ton of your time (in which case, you got outplayed), that extra regression is not going to make a difference.
Even if it was regressing and it took a whopping 20 seconds for someone else to get on it, we're talking about an extra five seconds (solo).

*facepalm*
Fortunately you do not have to. All you gotta' do is chase them away first. If you want to be bold about and kick it while they're still there, then you'd need a perk. But at that point, you're putting yourself in that situation.
-
I would suggest chasing them away first. If they're looping around the generator, go for a hit first or force them to drop the pallet and leave. Once they're gone, they're not coming back to stop the generator from regressing. Kicking it carelessly will almost always end in someone tapping it, though.
You could also run PGTW or Overcharge if you don't want to chase them away first. That way you'll still get something out of it regardless.

It is not being extended. It is a little unfortunate, but it didn't last too long. With the amount of platforms DbD is on these days, we cannot afford to extend a Blood Hunt each time one platform goes down for a short amount of time.

????? wow even community manager's view is skewed
do you not realize that the most popular dbd streamers went to twitchcon??? and that since they're not streaming you lose viewers in the game? and all the viewers that like to play with that streamer don't play??? i'm shocked that a community manager is belittling its own community lmao
edit: go check out the viewers for dbd. it's more than halved, but "The amount of people going to Twitchcon is fairly small."
Right, because the streamers they like to watch aren't streaming, they're at Twitchcon. Delaying a Blood Hunt isn't going to make them cancel their plans to go to the convention and stream instead. This is also why smaller streamers typically get a boost in viewers when they stay home and stream during Twitchcon. People look for other streams to watch while their regular streamers are out.
Most of the regular streamers will not mind missing out on a Blood Hunt. They spend upwards of 6-8 hours per day playing the game. Typically they'll have more points than they know what to do with already.
Not to mention that more people are going to be playing the game during a Blood Hunt. It's not meant to drive up Twitch views, it's a special event for players.
-
@BBQnDemogorgon said:
An incredibly small portion of DbD players go to / care about Twitch con.
Events/holidays are a terrible reason to not do a game event at that time.
Lets just skip Winter Solstice because millions are focusing on spending time with family /s.
Pretty much this.
The amount of people going to Twitchcon is fairly small. Even if literally everyone who went to Twitchcon was an avid DbD player, based on the attendance, we'd still be talking about a small fraction of the people playing. We didn't want to postpone the entire Blood Hunt just for a few people. No matter when we hold an event, some people are going to miss it.
While you're off having fun at Twitchcon, everyone else who didn't get to go gets to have fun with a Blood Hunt.

Should be fairly soon. We tend to do hotfixes for two or three weeks after an update these days (as necessary). Afterwards it ends up being more worthwhile to wait for the mid-chapter.
