I understand what you mean but my point is the devs originally wanted to avoid this but decided to open the box so why not go all the way? Any reason they shouldn't?
Because sexual orientation isn't the same as political affiliation.
-
If you don't care, then it won't affect you. That's what "not caring" means. It will only affect people who do care.
-
Yes.

It's pretty obvious this is a political statement. If it was done during any other month I wouldn't bat an eye but doing this on pride month is a pretty obvious "How do you do my fellow gays."
If it'd been done during any other month, the usual people would still be claiming "it's a political statement", like they do every time a non-heterosexual is included in any media format. It's almost like they just don't want non-heterosexuals.

Everything is inherently political to some degree. Especially art and games that try to mimic the real world.
You're always making a statement, even with the things that you don't say or have in your game.
I don't want literal politics in the game. Is that a bad thing?

Why not? I don't mind what views they have, do you?
I don't want the game to be political. Is that a bad thing?

No, I make up stories myself in my head. I sometimes do however take other people's stories as inspiration, but thats about it.
I assume my free spirit is outside of the norm in today's society, but thats okay for me.
It's definitely odd, but you won't be persecuted for it.

I'm not saying it has to be the sole or direct reason, it can just be a matter of fact in their past that has lead them to their current situation. Much in the same way they did for David.
And I'm saying it doesn't even have to be that. Dwight's crush on Rose isn't why he wound up in the Fog.

Not sure what your assuming but I would really enjoy the devs telling us which survivors have what political views. Let's be inclusive now.
Let's not drag politics into this, thanks.
-
@coppersly said:

I only see a few ways to organically incorporate something like political affiliation.
Maybe they were evil in their time in government and the entity took them when ######### went bad or a scandal broke out, whatever
Maybe they worked for the government in some capacity before being taken as a survivor, whatever
Those are about the only 2 reasonable ways to include political affiliation without reaching hard.
Conversely, it is much easier to include someones sexual orientation organically. You can include any past history and relevant persons from it (partners), have them be the reason for becoming a killer (betrayal, town was trying to kill them for being gay, etc...) or be the partner they're trying to get back to as a survivor.
Or just not have their orientation figure into their current situation at all. People do things for reasons that have nothing to do with their orientation, you know.

Personally, I feel indifferent about this. Like for me personally it doesn't matter what the official lore of a character is, because I make one myself for my favourite characters anyways. Thanksfully the multitude of cosmetics help me with that approach. But if people want lore pressed on themselves by a corporation, sure do whatever makes you happy.
So you don't like books, TV series, or films?

If a creator doesn't want people to think that changes are part of an "agenda" or tokenism or a cynical marketing tactic, maybe don't have your legal department or whoever craft careful statements announcing to the world how inclusive you have decided you are now prepared to be.
Companies/corporations are not our friends. Do not look to them for anything in these areas. Yeah, Nike can have an ad featuring Colin Kapernick and claim they're on your side, but they still have kids in sweatshops in China making their shoes and are siphoning your tax dollars. (And yes, economics is the true force harming the majority of people. Don't let them make you forget it.)
There are heroes and role models for all sorts of people out in the world doing real things and being real inspirations. Do not look to the corporate world to carefully craft nicely sanitized figures for you to look up to, coincidentally just as soon as it's convenient and "relevant" for them to do so.
Where's all that coming from? Please, point out how any of that's relevant to what I actually wrote and not what you imagined I said.

@Mooks said:
Well they did state the sexuality or part of the sexuality of some characters before. (At least the Nurse was married to a man and as mentioned above David has an ex girlfriend; I am sure there are other mentions).
they just reflected on themselves and saw that this could be interpreted as some kind of exclusion or contradiction to what they previously stated so I see it as totally not problematic at all as long as they don’t create a character whose only personality trait is their sexuality, and i am confident that they will be able to integrate it without it feeling forced or something.
What is bisexuality?

you can talk about orientation without talking about explicit sex.
Doesn't matter, the ratings have a heteronormative bias. If you include non-heterosexuals, your content will be rated T, minimum.

@Rydog said:

This is a reductive way of looking at it.
People see characters in various pieces of media who are non-hetero, and they go "Wow, that non-hetero character's non-heteroness seems to be their singular character trait! Man, I wish they would stop pushing this NON-HETERO AGENDA on us!"
The curse of marginalized groups is that their marginalized status has to be called out in order to shine a light on the problem that exists, to acknowledge the thing that they struggle with. You aren't going to see a character bio that calls out a character's proud straight-ness because that's the "default" and is -- relatively speaking -- unremarkable. It would be amazing to live in a world where people of all colors and orientations were treated with the same social fairness and respect, and for all of this to be -- relatively speaking -- unremarkable in terms of the factors that make up our individual human identities.
But that isn't the case, and you can't call attention to it without calling attention to it. This is the crux of what is unfolding in the world right now.
Exactly. A heterosexual in media is seen as perfectly fine, but a non-heterosexual is somehow a political statement and solely defined by their non-heterosexuality. Same thing goes for non-white and non-male characters. If you have a combination of two or more of these, they're clearly just a token character, because everyone knows there are no non-white, non-male, non-heterosexual people in the world. Zero.

Unfortunately I get killers that like to BM all the time. Weirdly I don't see it from survivors too often. Of course that could just be a platform or regional difference. I believe your on PC from the UK if I remember correctly. Whereas I'm on console from the US.
As a side note the totems on the Dead Dawg Saloon are very well hidden. It's not surprising you'd miss one. I did some kyf games with my cousin to try to learn the spawn points. First game we literally couldn't find the last totem. Though I'm pretty sure we figured out where it had spawned in our third go around.
I'm not in the UK, no, but close enough.

It's actually the other way around for me tbh. A lot of killers claim t-bagging and using emotes or clicking the flashlight is BM by default, even though the vast majority of players use that just to gain some attention from the killer, making them focus on them. So its extremely easy to claim a survivor is BM'ing when they actually didnt(however, those who do, are extremely annoying). However, its extremely easy to know when a killer is BM'ing. They always instantly claim ez after a game, even though all 5 gens were done and they won due to gate placements being in their favor. Camp whoever they catch and always smack them multiple times.
And why do you think they do those things as opposed to, say, letting the killer get a free hit on them or missing skill checks? Because it's BM. The whole purpose is to annoy your opponent into making a mistake.

It deletes 33% of the life states in the game before it begins.
Only if you can't win chases and the killer decides to use it on you after your first hook. Also, by that logic, Self-Care gives you infinite health states.
-
I always laugh at those mental gymnastics they engage in. I once had a survivor who killed himself on a hook very early on (had about 5k BP) stay until the very end of the trial just to rub it in my face that I got a 3k (hatch escape).

I have 100% lost far more teammates as a survivor to suicides than I have to moris. Not even comparable numbers wise for me.
So true. That and DCers. Piss me off so much.

@Bmj2 said:
You cannot possibly compare Ebony Mori with ANY of the survivor perks, items or addons.
First of all Ebony Mori is an OFFERING and it prematurely removes survivors from the game usually resulting in a sure win for the killer. I don't recall any survivor offerings that basically win you the game just by playing it.
As for the survivor's perks and item addons, ofcourse there are some that have some sort of impact if used properly but they actually require some skill/experience in using them; Mori requires no skill at all to use: You just equip it and you can kill any survivor if opportunity presents itself.
"Prematurely removes survivors from the game"
No, it doesn't. You are not entitled to a certain amount of play time per trial before the killer can kill you. You could bleed out in 4 minutes if the killer slugged you and nobody came to your rescue. You could die on the hook in 10 seconds if you tried to break free and then didn't struggle. You die when you die. That's all.
-
If you take away their supernatural powers, everyone except Huntress, Oni, and Hillbilly.
Hillbilly broke his shackles and tore down a brick wall, not to mentioning running after and slaughtering farm animals. Even if he is deformed, good luck taking down someone with his strength.
Oni is a trained warrior with the strength to rip out another person's tongue. It basically took an entire village to kill him, and even then he withstood their assault for some time. He's very strong and has the martial training to go with it.
Huntress operates purely on instinct - kill, eat, survive - but has the brain of a human. You will not take her down unarmed, even if you're the world's strongest man. You may go for a punch to her sternum, for example, but she will tear open your jugular with her bare hands and bite your face off.
The others, without their supernatural powers, are just average (sometimes below-average) humans. Hell, Spirit is literally falling apart, she'd bleed out and die in seconds if you did nothing.
I'm not sure what the Demogorgon is like on the show because I got bored of it, so no comment on it.

Good job, you killed everyone because you're not a team player and can't take a loss. And then you wonder why playing solo is harder than SWF...

If you're fine with camping and tunneling, I guess you're fine with the gen speed too.
Is that supposed to be some kind of "gotcha!" question? Because if you search through my very extensive posting history, you'll find me saying gen times should not be increased. Not that I couldn't agree that they should increase gen times if I'm fine with camping and tunneling, but whatever.
-
I try to go for the second half of great skill checks (so that if I overshoot, I still get a good skill check and the gen doesn't explode in my face).
-
The killer had NOED and BBQ. I'm opening the gate and GTFOing. If you don't want me to leave, maybe you should cleanse some totems.

I just find it ironic that some killers complain about genrushing, even though they bring an offering that makes them have to do only 33% of their main objective in order to win.
Ebony moris really should only work on death hook or, more preferably, if every individual survivor has been hooked at least once. That way killers wouldn't be able to tunnel someone for an instant mori, and they would actually have outskill four survivors in a chase before he gets to wipe them all clean on a whim.
I personally just don't even care about the match when a mori is used; I'll probably just loot chests, get totems, practice moonwalking and suicide on first hook when the killer eventually gets me. I see no point in trying to win if the killer can just win by doing the bare minimum.
66%. Killer has to win two chases, as opposed to three.
And no, Moris shouldn't be made useless.
-
Nope.
-
- Is it wrong to camp when the other three survivors are crouching around the hook doing nothing?
- Is it wrong to camp when the gates are open and you don't have any insta-down?
- How long does a killer have to wait after a survivor is unhooked until it is no longer considered "tunneling"?
- If all survivors are dressed the same way, how can the killer avoid tunneling?
- If the killer can't find the unhooker, is it wrong to tunnel?
Just a few questions off the top of my head.
PS: Camping and tunneling are fine and fair. Go do gens.

Usually, killers get flack for gameplay-related behavior (camping, etc.), which eclipses the bm'ing instances in the survivors' perception . However, I probably see as much bm'img coming from killers as I do from survivors.
It's a general issue, not role-specific.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1345087#Comment_1345087
It's not unusual in the red ranks. I wouldn't say it happens every other game, but you'll come across that regularly.
Well, to me, this is so rare that it warranted a thread. It's one of the few times I've seen a killer BM for no reason. Survivors, on the other hand...

Moris are amazing and are not griefing. Making you lose is not griefing. Moris are no more a "sanctioned griefing mechanic" than flashlights or pallets.

i may be stupid but what does it mean that a survivor husks?
A husk is the outer layer of something, usually a living thing. In this case, survivors (the players) would leave, but the characters would stay behind - alive, technically, but they wouldn't move or anything.

Lobby dodging is something completely different. If that's all you're doing, it's fine. It's not a great thing to do, IMO, but since survivors no longer need to queue up again, it doesn't really matter.

It's not user friendly. I used to assume that survivors didn't care what I brought, I was wrong.
I've had many people legit say "Oh I'm sorry I didn't know that's what you meant."
It should be more player/user friendly is what I am saying. Half the time I am not even paying attention to chat in the lobby because of queue times.
I used to play F13 and this was one of the features I enjoyed because it gave people an idea of other players and their intentions during a match. If someone is doing a challenge it is much easier to grasp than me wondering why they keep refusing to do the objective while the rest of the team seems to be carrying... aka better preparedness.
I agree, it's not user friendly. I'm just giving you tips on how you can deal with it right now.
