  • First I want to commend you on staying away from breaking down and starting an argument or calling people out.

Secondly I see the bigger picture myself as I do not have a bias towards either role and the point you are getting at is not focused towards either role. From the scattered replies I've read it seems most people seem to be trying to defend killer/survivors points rather than seeing that what your saying is "X and Y are the reasons everyone needs to run "meta builds" because X and Y can destroy you if you don't (on average)."

The game discourages playing fun/gimmick builds (on average) because power spikes exist on both sides. Perhaps you decided to try a new gimmick build but ran into 4 games of "Meta Spirits". Sure you have a chance of escape but you most likely get destroyed and its discouraging to say the least.

Perhaps you want to play Jumpscare Myers but you get matched against SWF teams and your build is pretty much countered from the start.

Its discouraging when the discrepancy in a match can go from 0-100 and in order to feel like you are getting the most of out your time must resort to using "meta builds".

This is NOT saying people cannot win matches against "meta builds" with "gimmick builds" but that you run the risk of wasting your time, items/add-ons and fun going against other players trying their hardest. I believe this boils down to rank being the only option and that both "casual" and "competitive" players are all forced to play together.

(If I am wrong in my assessment of what you were saying please let me know. While I wish more people got their minds into the issues of DBD at large and stopped focusing on "Killer vs Survivor" issues, its unlikely to change anytime soon.)

up the ante, abysmal bonus for a useless mechanic.

Agree it horrible but if you have a SWF using the luck offerings you can get 100% unhook chance.

I'm assuming this is still in the game as last time I did this was 1 1/2 years ago.

    Unpopular opinion: not Nurse.

    Maybe Huntress.

Everyone can have their own opinions so I won't argue that Huntress is your choice.

My two cents on Nurse vs Huntress is that Huntress is 110% and can still play the M1 game vs survivors even if your aim is horrible.

Nurse is 90/95%? Slower than a base running survivor and cannot play the M1 game, thus you NEED to know her power to some extent to use her.

(Even with Bloodlust Nurse needs BL2 in order to be faster than a survivor)

Imagine a scenario where you have been taken by the entity and are forced to survive a trial. But luckily, you can choose three other survivors from the current roster to help aid in your escape.

For this discussion, try not to consider perks. Just assume every survivor has access to all the perks. Instead, ponder the backstory of each survivor and make your decisions based on that. In other words, base your choices on the experience each survivor brings to the table.

    Here are my picks:

Bill - He's a Vietnam veteran. Has experience surviving a zombie apocalypse. Overall, Bill is probably my top pick.

Detective Tapp - He's a homicide detective. Has a ton of police training. I think Tapp would bring with him valuable experience.

Jake - His lore describes him as a survivalist. So, I think Jake is a natural pick.

Now tell me your three choices and explain why.

Myers - Because I like the strong silent type.

Doctor - Because everyone needs a good laugh.

Huntress - Because nothing makes a campfire great like a nice song and ....rhm...skinned rabbits?

You didn't say the Entity made you a survivor, just that you had to survive. And the best way to survive is to JOIN!

Ignore people that say to use headphones, stridor and blah blah blah. That only works if you have a good setup, including headphones and sound card, and precisely tuned audio settings. While sound is a strong weapon in spirits arsenal, and it is amplified by stridor, it is only reliable if you have a very good setup.

As a starter spirit, you can totally use stridor to help you out, but similarly to NOED it quickly begins to stunt your growth to the point of only being a mediocre killer if you rely on it too much. Footsteps are a more reliable way of tracking survivors by sound, but good survivors know this and can bamboozle you. The best tracking tool spirit has is grass, corn and bush movement, though it's clearly not applicable in many situations. You should also not use all of your power at once. It's better to do short bursts so as to not completely drain it and give decent survivors plenty of 110 killer chase time. And if a survivor jukes you, figure out how they did it because it's likely they will attempt it next time you chase them.

I'd disagree about he headphones needing a strong setup.

I play on PS4 and use my TV (obviously) for all my sound. When I use headphones (cheap ones too) its like a world of difference.

since mettle of man, they never made a worth it perk at all, i am bored of them being cowards and make useless perks that we pay for

I'm actually glad to see more "gimmick" or "combo" style perks being made. The issue with constantly trying to compete with "meta" is that you eventually create power-creep that ruins everything.

I'd rather perks that have good synergy/combo with different perks for variations on builds rather than "run these 4 perks 100% of the time".

If you don't understand the saying I'm sorry. I'm wondering is there any map where you feel, no matter the team or killer your playing you always do bad on?

For me (proven again today) it's always badham preschool 1 as Killer. I always struggle on this particular variant of the map and I don't understand why. Mentally now it's the map I fear the most, even though I really shouldn't.

Struggle the most on Hawkins as survivor simply because I don't play that map enough to know the layout.

Struggle the most on Rotten Fields as killer because I play on PS4 and the mix of FPS and my aging eyes make 90% of the map pretty much impossible to see.

If a bubba facecamps you, do gens and 2-3 people escape.

    Its not that hard.

But I dont get why these people dont get banned immediately for this kind of stuff.

There are many camping killers out there and im sure its not a one time death threat by their side. There should be a trackig system for special words like these. Cant be too hard to band people who wish death upon families

Its that lack of moderation with these players that has lead to the toxic community we see today.

Its going to take a long time for BHVR to clean it up too, if ever they do.

While many people may have "thick skin" and be able to ignore this, its unacceptable just how much it seems to go unpunished. I know a few friends who stopped playing this game ages ago because of the slew of hate filled negativity they endured.

Both are slimy and ruin the game but most likely won’t be banned for. How do you really say someone “wasn’t trying?” If I run to the killer at the start and die I can just say I felt I wanted to get chased and practice looping.

If I stand afk while survivors do all 5 gens who’s to say I’m not trying to trap them with NOED, blood warden or rancor?

Again I think both are a waste of time but I don’t see how you prove anything to be banned for

Did you quote the wrong person?

  • @johnmwarner said:

The funny thing is other perks are used just as poorly and waste just as much time but no one is judge for using them. Two examples are Sprint Burst and Head on, now to start I think Sprint Burst is amazing and head on is fun and sometimes strong, but again their real usefulness is dependent on who and how they are used.

Ive seen survivors literally walk EVERYWHERE so sprint burst is available, these guys waste more time walking to a gen than self care does.

People will jump on and out of lockers for 90% of the game and never actually hit the killer with head on. These people waste literally minutes inside of a locker instead of doing gens but Head on is “fun,” so it’s okay.

The thing with SB and Head On is that its difficult as another survivor to see the use someone is getting out of it. Its easy to see someone self-caring in a corner or during a Legion with Thana.

I have no idea is Claudette has used her SB to great/poor effect and thus am unable to comment on its use.

Not only was this a scary moment but it showed me an amazing fun gimmick build too.

I was using a medkit against a Leatherface who brought in Franklins.

Leatherface hits me (I drop my medkit) and I break chase. After a few moments I go back to my medkit and as I'm picking it up I hear the rev of the chainsaw and see him standing in the corner.

Leatherface was using Insidious to camp dropped items to get scares on people coming back for them. It was a brilliant idea and got me good.

Oh, if they were being toxic, I would show no mercy. This was too early in the game for me to see what type of players they were. It’s just stupid that if I did choose to kill them all, I am being punished for somebody else disconnecting. I think if somebody DC’s from a match, you shouldn’t be able to de-pip.

As for that last point, it would be abused.

SWF joins a match, they see its Spirit. Player 1 DCs (5 minute timeout) the team all gets their safety pips.

Match two the SWF team see its a map they don't like. Player 2 DCs (5 minute timeout) everyone keeps their pips.

I agree it sucks as a survivor to have this happen but often (if people actually try) a 1v3 match can be really fun. Much more difficult to escape but often full of fun chases/situations.

As for farming, if the killer seems to want to farm I'll do it/ as killer if the survivors seems to want to farm I'll do it. I'll never force either side into anything but rather just see what the majority wants.

  • Yes I mean the advice of "just ignore it", I see that get tossed around all the time. While its good advice to a degree its not a solution to a problem.

This isn't just for the chat during that event, but I see people say this all the time as if ignoring issues somehow solves them.

  • @johnmwarner said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1332670#Comment_1332670

Yeah, used wisely self care is great and like you said as solo survivors we can’t rely on our teammates healing us when needed. Heck I can’t even rely on my team to unhook me some games.

Ive had players with we’ll make it unhook me and then run off... I’ve had players ignore healing me to loot a chest 2 meters away... I’ve helped double heal 2 other players and then watch them run off without healing me even though the killer wasn’t around... the point is if people feel more comfortable playing at full health who are you to tell them no? And if they want to be at full health and are solo they have to bring self care or a medkit, or being inner strength and hope to find totems

Exactly. Its the players experience and ability to determine the best course of action during a match that has lead self-care to get a bad rep not the perk itself.

  • @BigBubs said:

The corn exists exactly for that reason. Why should it be removed because you and some others have eye issues?

The corn is fine on most maps, because the corn exist as a LOS blocker on specific spots.

Rotten Fields is a one trick pony. You either have the ability to track in corn or you're screwed the whole map over.

  • @KiloOfSalt said:

I dont find the game fun against spirit. I just want the game over with. Is it bannable for me to just go to the basement and kill myself first hook?

Would you find the experience fun if every time you played Jake the killer just sat in the basement until the match was over?

Most likely you won't get banned but you ruin everyones experience.

  • @Mr_Slick546 said:

I don't want to be that guy but, If you agree with the post give it an upvote, the devs would love to ignore as much as they can, if you see someone suggest a positive change give them an upvote and make it harder for the devs to ignore. Once again, this would be a simple addition to the game.

I doubt up votes do anything in terms of making a suggestion more/less valid.

I have seen horrible "bait posts" up voted to legitimate balance ideas. I'm sure the Devs read what they can regardless of up votes.

That should never be a valid argument to something that should be moderated.

  • Keys and Mori are the same.

Both remove core mechanic of the game and can be detrmental to the match experience on either side.

Both require a serious rework or to be removed.

The fact that people are actually arguing over what item/add-on is the worst, instead of all agreeing they need to be changed is baffling.

So, my friends and I were a 3 man swf and there was a Kate we were on dead dawg saloon with a huntress with sloppy butcher, nurse's calling, barbeque, and blood warden. So we all were injured at like the beginning of the game cause we're bad lmao and I have bond on and the Kate is selfcaring whilst there is tier 3 sloppy butcher like I would rather they bring a brown medkit instead of self care like it wastes so much time like please bring medkits please. P.s we all escaped cept me and Kate.

I often use self-care because I play solo and rarely can rely on my team. I know when to heal and when to just push on. The perk has saved me far more than hurt me.

The issue with self-care is that many new/inexperienced players think they need to be "healthy state" as much of the game as possible or lack the confidence/skill required to keep a chase while injured. For this reason the perk is given a bad rep despite it being an issue with the players understanding of the match, not the perk.

Its the equivalent of bringing in a shroud offering as a killer and watching people DC thinking its a Mori.

    Good laughs.

  • @survivormain1105 said:

so played a game had a key to help do a stupid tome challenge. It's cool killer brings a mori with both pink and purple addons. So my question is whats the difference between surviors using a key and a killers using the most powerful addons against us. Keys are only powerful in the endgame but pink addons are useful the entire game. Yes keys our bad in the game but so our most pink addons.

    Your turn. Thanks 😊

Keys and Mori should be removed/heavily reworked.

Both skip core game mechanics and are detrimental to the emblem system on both sides.

It sucks as a survivor to instantly be Moried after losing only 1 chase (1 hook) and it feels horrible as a killer to not get a pip because survivors escape via hatch.

The other issue is that the items themselves are not all that rare. I can pull a key in almost every match with Plunders 3 as a survivor (not really an exaggeration, I have such a stockpile because I don't use them) and as a killer I find a Green Mori every 1-3 Bloodwebs and Red frequently enough.

At least put Freddy in a burnt up janitor outfit OR Leather could wear that tux he was wearing at the end of the original TCM to mix it up a bit.

Licensed characters are different from originals.

In order to even get them into the game an agreement must be struck between the license holder and the BHVR, and any alteration to the character after would also need to meet approval if none was already given.

I don't think I have ever seen that happen before, in my own experience as killer at least. What would you have to do in order to kill everyone and de-pip? Could it only happen from a ton of camping or something?

If you hook survivors without much of a chase or with certain killer 1 shot abilities and either they don't get saved/hook suicide you do not get enough chaser/malice? emblem and just like the image above do not gain enough points for a pip.

Thanks to the odd matchmaking this can happen frequently enough unless you les people go and artificially extend the match.

I got fully healed but was unable to do anything because I couldn't see my Kate. It stayed this way until the killer came and downed me again. This time the killer hooked me.

After hooking me my camera perspective changed back to me. However, the moment someone pulled me off the hook with the killer standing right there he downed me immediately and once again the video followed the killer while the audio remained with my character.
