@kiNgOwL Behavior does not host tournaments. As you are likely aware, they tried a tournament in the past with a third party organization and it was an absolute mess. Not only in how it was operated, but also because it clearly showed that DbD is not design to be any sort of eSport game.
Wish you the best of luck, but your time and energy are likely better served back in Overwatch. I honestly can't imagine that you would have much of an esport audience here in Dead by Daylight, either.
-
@Xboned I agree with everything you've said. As it stands, I stopped even trying to login and play right now. I downloaded the six free Batman games that Epic is currently giving away, and did what I thought I would never do for the rest of 2019: logged into Overwatch. Already played enough to get the 9 wins on both my account and my 9-year-old's account to unlock the Bastion Lego skin for both of us.
That was about 24-26 matches for those 18 total wins. Matches that I could have been playing in DbD instead, except, well . . . Behavior.
You are logging into the game with a sense of uncertainty, you say. Unfortunately, I have a real sense of uncertainty toward Behavior as a whole. It's why I've decided to not buy Stranger Things at this time and will not be spending on cosmetics. As it stands, I don't have faith in them enough to spend my money on them.
I almost purchased Deathgarden: Bloodharvest a couple weeks ago. Looking at them on Steamcharts, I'm glad I refrained from doing so.
-
@GrootDude Those two things are, indeed, the core of the problem. And yet for three years, Behavior has done very little to actually solve the issue. It requires an entire overall of the rank system, the deranking potential, and how season resets function. And Behavior, in all this time, hasn't acknowledge the issue nor done anything about it.
And therein lies the longer term problem. What is Behavior going to do when the Vets get bored enough and start moving on? It will happen at some point. They're launching on the Switch this coming week, which is fine for a surge of more money. But what next? After mobile, they're pretty much out of new platforms to milk for initial MSRP sales.
And yes, you find ways to have fun. You've also gotten Leatherface, of all killers, to be successful within Red Ranks. You are not the average, nor majority, gamer. A majority of gamers will never see Red Ranks in DbD, never mind be able to do it successfully with Leatherface.
They just want to jump in and play Slasher horror hide-and-seek, preferably with teammates, and against opponents, of comparable skill level.
-
@GrootDude Here's the issue, and I am going to only use my own anecdotal experience based on my wide circle of real life friends and family gamers.
Most players don't want to get good in that sense. They want to jump in and have fun. Fun doesn't necessarily equate to winning, but it does equate to not being bullied or steamrolled by Vets you should not be going against in the first place.
They don't visit forums or reddits, and don't watch YouTube video guides for a game.
The other thing to consider about Dead by Daylight is why it draws in a lot of people. In a lot of instances, it's the licensed DLCs such as Myers, Leatherface, Pig, Ghostface, or Freddy, which are famous horror film icons, or one of the hottest shows on Netflix right now: Stranger Things. It isn't Legion, or Nurse, or Spirit, or Plague, or those guys.
And those people want to, again, jump in and have fun. And, again, getting steamrolled by deranked or rank reset Vets is not going to be fun.
And as the SteamCharts have shown repeatedly free weekend after free weekend, and MSRP sale after MSRP sale, the new players aren't being retained. Which means they aren't having fun within their first experiences with the game.
Gamers who find a game to not be fun through their initial experiences, in a majority of cases, will not stick around long enough to get good or improve. A vast majority of the gaming consumer base are very casual gamers.
And they will simply move on and spend their future money elsewhere.

@justarandy You're using Apex as an example? Apex Legends is a Battle Royale where, outside of their ranked mode, does not use an MMR or any sort of matchmaking for their other modes. It's how I, as a new player of only three days old a couple months after launch, played in three different matches against Shroud. Or where as a new Realm Royale player I was regularly in matches against Thor, Krippler, Aero, IdiotMouse, or Gentle_Giant.
Fortnite, Realm Royale, and other battle royales do not use matchmaking. I think PUBG might be one of the few that does. Never played it, but I remember reading something about that.
If you play a battle royale, you go in expecting zero matchmaking algorithm. I don't play them (though I'd tried them for several months) for precisely that reason.
Nor is DbD using an MMR system like, say, Overwatch Quick Play, where it takes several matches, which will be throwing you to the wolves, for the MMR to gauge where you belong and adjust your matchmaking from there for better matches.
Dead by Daylight uses their "ranks" for their matchmaking algorithm. A system which is not only bugged to hell right now, but is easily abused and manipulated to derank without penalty, or just take an extended break from the game and be deranked by Behavior on a monthly basis, thereby rendering a large purpose behind the rank-as-matchmaker as absolutely useless.
-
@Thund3rstruck57 Absolutely not. A game should never put the Streamers over the general player base. They'll be at Twitchcon, which is a business decision for them. Behavior is not going to change the Bloodhunt for that.
Behavior already knew what they were doing since they will also be at Twitchcon as stated on the Developer Activities calendar. The bloodhunt has been scheduled and announced even with that already known. It starts this Thursday.

@NoShinyPony said:
Agreed. I'm really worried that not a lot of new players who came with the Stranger Things DLC are going to stick with the game.
@NoShinyPony Hell, if I remember, you saw one of my posts from last weekend where I discussed my 32-year-old baby sister, whom I gifted a copy of DbD. She first played the week that ended with rank reset. Tuesday through Thursday, she enjoyed it. Then Friday hit and rank reset happened and she got bullied to hell and back Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
She was intending to buy Stranger Things. Instead, she uninstalled and won't ever look at DbD again.
And that was just from the crap with the rank reset.
With the matchmaker issue now? No, I don't see many new players sticking around. This is going to end-up just like every other free weekend and 50% sale. Numbers will drop a lot after the weekend as they fail to keep enough new players who tried it and didn't buy, and roughly two weeks after the sale ends, DbD will be back to its daily peak of 20k-25k players or so.
As usual, DbD will remain flat for retained player activity growth.
-
@Dwight_Fairfield And that is a constantly problem with Behavior. Every update they put out just creates additional problems. There comes a point where enough is finally enough.
-
@NoShinyPony Yeah. They admitted here, on Twitter, and at FB on the 19th that they were aware of it, found the problem, and were working on a hotfix.
You'd have thought that with the free weekend going on to entice people to buy the game that is also on a 50% sale, that they would have made getting the fix into the game a #1 absolute priority. Even if it meant staying later hours for one day.
But nope. So, now we won't see a potential fix until sometime next week at the earliest. After the free weekend ends.
Behavior has really shown how much they're concerned with growing the game. While I'll play, I am carefully considering any money going toward them. Cosmetics are out of the question, and I've yet to buy the Stranger Things DLC. I'm not just mindlessly tossing money at a company that shows so little motivation to grow their product.
-
@ahandfulofrain Don't get me started on the players over there. They whine as much as here. I never had trouble with the original release Brigitte. I figured out how to counter her. I don't have an issue with current Doomfist, yet people whine and moan about him. How about this? Stop playing Double Barrier comp, you are weak to Doomfist. That's why he's Meta right now.
Overwatch is about countering heroes with other heroes, yet people want to only learn a few heroes and then whine and complain because they can't do it all. Learn the game.
It's the same as here. People whine and complain that only Hillbilly, Nurse, and Spirit are playable at red ranks. Then why did I see some smaller Streamers do damned well with pre-rework Freddy in red ranks? Or Myers? Why can @GrootDude do well with Leatherface at red ranks?
Hillbilly, Spirit, and Nurse are the easiest to play at red ranks. They're the path of least resistance. And people always flock to that and then complain, be it here or Overwatch or whatever PvP game.
Yes, there are legit weak characters in both games. For example, Clown here in DbD. I won't claim otherwise. But, again, that is any hero-character based PvP game, be it DbD, OW, or the MOBA of your choice.
-
@joan Again, not true. He pulled out the tired, old internet cliché of "I'm stating X. change my mind."
No, we don't have to change his mind. His opinion is his own and he is free to it.
Now, had he stated something intelligent instead of a meme, such as: It seems that every Wraith player I go up against does nothing but tunnel. Why is that? Do all Wraith players do this?
Or something like that, then he would have invited discussion.
Instead, he creates a thread and states an overused internet meme. So, I responded in kind.
I'm not replying to this tired thread again. If you want to argue this further, post it to my forum Wall.
-
@ProfessorDunwich You have a point. Overwatch has been my primary game since launch day. Only reason I am not higher than I am in account level is because my play time is generally limited.
But, yeah, sometimes folks like me forget not everyone plays it that way. Just like not everyone in DbD is a forum member with thousands of hours (well, I'm certain not in this game).
-
@joan Fun fact: I don't main anything in this game because I only play it very occasionally. I play Overwatch as my main game, where getting better and even ranking up doesn't screw you over like here. You know, a game that understands core game design to promote self-improvement in play. Imagine that!
So, sorry to tell ya, I don't main anything in DbD. It's just a side thing like Friday the 13th. And before you try to claim my Myers avatar as proof of anything, I only use Myers because back in 1978, I saw the original Halloween in theaters with my parents at five years old, and it started my love of horror and the slasher genre. So, Myers is always a special thing to me for the genre.
-
I give it five minutes. After that, I quit the game, quit steam, and launch a game that I can actually play.
-
In this game, there isn't a point. Matter of fact, it benefits your sanity and playtime more to not go into red ranks.
-
@joan Calling me a typical Killer main because I don't care what someone, whom I do not know, calls Wraith mains? A killer I don't even play, mind you.
I'm sorry, are you 12 years old? Are you even old enough to be on the internet unsupervised?
-
Who are you that we need to change your mind? Why should your opinion matter to us?
-
@ProfessorDunwich The XP penalty in Overwatch is only for QP. And once you get to an account like mine, which is near Level 900, we laugh at it. XP only grants a lootbox when you level-up, and I already have 90% of the cosmetics with near 30k coins still banked to buy any new ones as soon as they come out. XP means nothing.
Same as BP here for those that have played long enough.
For Competitive, it is a time-out ban and then eventually a season-ban. Too many of them and it's a permanent ban from the gameplay mode.
Given that DbD has a rank ladder, and we know DC punishments are coming with Dedicated Servers, I imagine they will do escalating time-outs, then temp-bans that escalate in time, until finally a perma-ban for the really stupid offenders.
@joan As it stands right now, Moris, tunneling, and camping aren't going anywhere. Behavior has gone on record and stated that all three of them are viable strategies. I try not to camp or tunnel myself, but if you want Moris gone then I want Instaheals and BNP gone.

I as many others would be annoyed about getting 3 liscensed characters in a row..
I want an original character to come out after a liscensed then another liscensed can arrive but -shrugs-
Pennywise would be four licensed characters in a row. We just had Ash, Ghostface, and Stranger Things one after another.
-
Myers. Because if it doesn't pan out, we can just reboot his continuity yet again and he can keep going at it. 🤣

@jackkn12 I have to admit, I don't really follow Epic games. I only knew about this one because my brother-in-law gave me a heads up about it. I had to reinstall the Epic Launcher just to make sure they were placed into my library. They were.
Before RoleQ hit in early September, I primarily played Overwatch with the wife (since launch day), and then Roblox with the wife and 9-year-old.
Nowadays, I still play Roblox with them, but am only playing Overwatch for the Bastion skin event. Other than that, I mess around in DbD and F13 currently.
I don't have a lot of game time due to my career, so there are weeks where I don't play anything at all. Hoping to schedule my work so I can play some of the upcoming Bloodhunt. The previous two Bloodhunt events I had to miss because I had manuscripts due and had to get them out the door. Right now, I think I am enough ahead of my next deadlines that I might be able to participate in this one.
We'll see. And that's only if they manage to actually fix the damned matchmaker before then.
-
Yeah, I have to agree with @Blueberry
And to be honest, this is one of the few PvP games I've played where the devs seem either incapable, or disinterested, in making changes to force a Meta change every so often.
I can't fathom how the long-term players have put up with the same Meta for years in a game with only one mode of play, to boot.
-
@jackkn12 Yep, claimed my six games for the library tonight. Had to reinstall the Epic Launcher, but that's fine.
I'm also doing the Win 9 Games for the Bastion Lego skin in Overwatch, since I did the previous events for the six other skins offered that way. Got mine tonight, and told my 9-year-old I would grind out the wins on his account starting tomorrow, since DbD is Dead by Matchmaker to me now. I'll do three or four wins a pop unless I get a win streak, so I'll have his skin by Monday.
Need to give Identity V a whirl since I downloaded it, as well.
I'm just getting a bit fed-up here, man. And I'm rapidly remembering why I shelved DbD months ago in the first place. I like the game, but every time I think: "Hey, this could be my main game for a time," Behavior somehow manages to screw it up.
My hat is tipped to you folks who play DbD as your main game. I don't know how you do it. You guys have more patience than a Saint.
-
@lynelmane Yeah, it looks ugly, but I'm determined to keep the collection complete.
There was the D.Va Nano Cola, Ana Bastet, the Baptiste one, then the three from the Summer Games event. Now Bastion. I'm curious if they're going to pull the same play-to-win-for-skins formula for any Halloween skins.
I've been in Overwatch since launch day. I've been on a hiatus since RoleQ hit because, even as a Support main, I hate the forced 2-2-2. That was why I came back to DbD. But right now, the issues here are making RoleQ look less unattractive. Shame.
Rumors have been pointing to an "Overwatch 2" project that is supposedly a PvE game in the vein of L4D. Which I imagine would be playing through the original Omnic Crisis. Kind of hoping it's true and there is some word of it at Blizzcon. A PvE game might be nice. I'm burning out on PvP games.
-
@lynelmane I usually play a few games in rotation. And since my game time is limited due to my career, it can sometimes be weeks or a month or more before I visit a particular PvP game again.
I logged into Overwatch tonight and finished getting my 9 wins for the exclusive Bastion Lego skin. It's only there for another 10 days, and if you don't get it by then you never get it. They've done such win-events for previous skins (6 others in all) and I have them all. So, needed to get this one, too.
I also told the kid that I would jump on his account and get the skin for him this weekend, now that DbD is a no-go for me. Then, leaks are that the Halloween Event starts October 8th, and I love the Junkenstein's Revenge PvE mode, so there's also that and those event skins.
I was excited for the Bloodhunt this coming Thursday, but to be honest this matchmaker not being an absolute #1 priority to fix ASAP before the weekend has taken the wind out of my sails. I'm not really trusting Behavior not to screw that up, too, like they did this free weekend. Or to take the entire event to fix whatever they break next.
-
Sadly, have they ever hotfixed on a weekend? I'm asking seriously, because I don't necessarily follow how they handle issues like this.
Because it's almost 10pm their time on Friday night, and unless they push out a hotfix this weekend, we're stuck with this until at least sometime next week.
So much for those free weekend new players. Leave it to Behavior to screw it up again.
I already gave-up playing this weekend. I'm probably going to download the Batman Arkham and Batman Lego trilogies for free from Epic since they're giving them away right now, and do some Overwatch. No sense in playing DbD when I am getting opponents far above my weight class. After the first few times, it becomes the antithesis of fun.
-
@nichtRoxas I'm going to be honest here, and it's a bit of a side tangent. I'm getting to the point that I don't care what Behavior does. This matchmaking is broken as hell, and they couldn't even get a hotfix out for it today. Which means it's likely broken all weekend. Which means I won't be playing this weekend.
I came back and have given them chance after chance, but even my patience is wearing thin, now.
Epic is giving away the Batman Arkham and Batman Lego trilogies for free right now. I might just go and download them. I've also downloaded Identity V on my phone and tablet to try out. Plus, I guess I'll go fire-up Overwatch again this weekend.
Because I sure as hell can't play DbD without getting matched against people far above my weight class, right now. If it's not one thing, it's another. That's why I've yet to give them the $12 for Stranger Things. I had gut feeling Behavior would screw the pooch yet again.
-
@nichtRoxas Look, the reality is: whether you agree with getting banned for DCing or not, once Dedicated Servers go live, Behavior already made clear that it's going to happen. It's their game and their rules.
There are three choices:
1) Play by their rules
2) Play another game and leave DbD
3) Continue to DC once Dedicated Servers launch, and eventually get banned.
-
@Xboned Same. I was hoping for a matchmaking hotfix today, but that didn't happen. So, now I guess we have to hope for next week. So that means no DbD for me this weekend.
It's getting a bit ridiculous at this stage, and I'm wondering why I even have this game installed. I'm trying to give Behavior a real chance, but they're making it more and more difficult.
Epic is giving away the Batman Arkham trilogy and Batman Lego trilogy for free until the 26th. I'll probably down load those six and play them for a while. I also downloaded Identity V on my phone, tablet, and the PC cross-platform client. So might try that out.
-
@ShrekIsHot Yeah, they go test and get a diploma. My now 21-year-old did it that way because we ripped him out of his school the junior year and home schooled him that year and his senior year because, in his case, there was a gun incident that the school tried to cover up by calling the kids liars.
Basically, there was a massive fight. Police were called to the school en masse and had to use pepper spray. One kid went to pull a gun and got tackled by the cops immediately. School tried to say that never happened.
Until, you know, cellphone videos of the incident were posted on Facebook by students.
I think later on will be better for little man. Wife is a manager at Home Depot and works a bit of hours, and I'm an author. Right now I'm having to do three to four novels a year, plus I'm temporarily returning to the table-top game industry for a tenth anniversary celebration of a product line that I own. So home schooling is not ideal at the moment.
-
@TheBean Yeah, that's too bad. Because my Steam profile stays 100% absolutely private, and it has zero to do with DbD. But it sure as hell isn't changing for DbD.
-
My other one is when, yet again, their matchmaker bugs out and can't make a decent match between ranks. I got BHVR'D.
-
@Speshul_Kitten When I purchased Legion, and then not even a month later they gutted him (I wasn't here when he released, was on a break).
And then I learned looking at the short time frame from release to gutting, and researching what happened to Freddy after release so fast: Never buy a DLC at launch. You might get BVHR'D.
I just today finally bought Ghostface. And I'll wait a couple months for Stranger Things just to be sure.
-
@Avocet Hmmm, never noticed that when I did my binds for the two sides. Then again, I hardly ever play Survivor, either.
I'm on PC.
-
@Avocet But that also re-maps other actions like skill checks and vaulting to mouse wheel, correct? Since DbD doesn't have a detailed remapping like other games.
If so, that also means retraining muscle memory to use the mouse wheel for those split-second actions. Some might not find that prospect worth it.
-
@ItzSoulz That would be a shame. I refuse to play anymore until the matchmaking hotfix goes in and solves the current issue. Would be a shame to have to skip the entire weekend. But I guess that just means extra play time in Overwatch, I suppose.
Hopefully this crap is fixed before the Bloodhunt on Thursday.

Once again ur the biased one and sucks u can't even spell🤔 but hey who's the one judging here not me but u. But hey dont worry I'm not judging u, just helping u here bud, but also go get good and u wouldn't complain kid
@PiedPiper365 Okay, while I see no reason to give you flak about your play style . . . I write for a living. I wouldn't insult someone else's inability to spell when you are using "u" instead of "you," in the first place, and don't punctuate correctly.
Food for thought.
-
@Mochan That's been my experience on PC as well.
-
@Pantemic I concur. I learned a little while ago, at least on PC, to play Killer in the evenings and at night. During the day, the queues take a lot longer.
DbD tends to peak its daily player count on Steamcharts around 10am to 11am EST, too.
-
@Akarate_Dolphin Weird. Did you do a lot of editing on it? If so, the forums tend to eat it and make it go through Mod approval.
-
@Cardgrey said:
I honestly don't understand why this is a thing. Square enix made it account based.
And had it to were you could swap PC ps2 and Xbox you would log in and it would load your account .
That said yes it's worth it thou you shouldn't have to give up your hard work. Bvr is just wanting 2 double dip.
That and mcote is too busy playing civ 5
@Cardgrey @Akarate_Dolphin Hi-Rez does it with Paladins and Realm Royale (and maybe Smite, I don't know as I've never played it). You not only have cross-platform play between PC, Xbox, and Switch (not PS4, though, because Sony likes being Sony), but also cross-platform progression.
I could play Paladins on my PC or a Switch with the same account, and never lose any progression or unlocks.
Why this is not more of a thing in 2019 is beyond me. But I would never buy DbD on a different platform and start all over again. Never mind the asinine grind, but that also means buying all the DLCs all over again and paying again for what I, technically, already own.
Momma didn't raise no fool.
I like DbD, but I sure as hell don't like it that much.
-
@Angelicus23 Sadly, I have no clue. The only other person I could get to try DbD was my 32-year-old baby sister, based on a free copy I gave her that I won from a Streamer. She tried it last week, but once rank reset happened and she got bullied around, she uninstalled.
I can't get anyone else to even try the game for free because they refuse to deal with the Perk grind as a new player, and all the Vets that manipulate the matchmaking by de-ranking without penalty.
-
@jeyers Queue times happen and people need to get used to them. For example, since RoleQ came to Overwatch earlier this month, if I want to play DPS I have a wait. And sometimes the wait is longer than the actual match. It sucks, but it also comes with the genre when you have a Rank or hidden MMR involved.
But when I get into a match, the matchmaker at least does its job and the matchmaking is fairly on point.
In a PvP game, a proper matchmaking algorithm is vastly more vital than queue times. Unfortunately, game forums make me question why half these people are playing a PvP game in the first place. Many seem much more suited for PvE design expectations.
-
@ShrekIsHot You kidding me? He's always behaved in class and gets awards for it, but at the same time he's sick and tired of suffering through a class-wide punishment because the same groups of kids misbehave. He's ready to be home schooled now, LOL. He's sick of his classmates.
-
@PiedPiper365 I'm not going to give you flak, man. You care about rank, and there's nothing wrong with that. You do you.
Some of us don't care about rank and only play for fun, so we don't mind going easy on the new players as they learn.
I used to care about Rank back when I did Competitive mode in Overwatch from 2017-2018. For me, I decided that rank ladders can die and burn in hell. They're not fun. I already have a job and career. I'm not in the market to assume another by playing a video game. But, that's me.
-
@twistedmonkey said:
I always play with BP in mind and for fun. I really don't care on the actual outcome of the game as long as I found it enjoyable.
Games are played for fun afterall.
@twistedmonkey I hear ya. I'm almost 47 years old, so only play for fun.
But saying so today seems to be treated as blasphemy by far too many.
-
@TheUnendingNightmare I just bought Ghostface about an hour ago due to the sale. Not a fan of the character in general, because even though he isn't the Scream version, I never liked Scream to begin with.
But I like to keep my collection up to date. I don't watch Stranger Things, either, so haven't bought that one yet. I will probably around November, because I want to get other Perks unlocked before I worry about Demogorgon's.
And I haven't even touched Survivors yet. My highest is Claudette at Level 11.
-
@ShrekIsHot Oh, absolutely. Unfortunately, they're simply looking at "minimizing" the injury count and body count until the Police Officer can take down the shooter.
It's all a plan of attrition, which bothers me. I'm an author for 25 years now, so I work from home. The wife and I have already discussed that unless things massively change, it's possible we'll have to Home School him through some of high school, and just make sure he has plenty of activities to meet others his age. Because I'm not about to send him to high school and pray every day that he makes it home alive.
