Haven’t played dbd yet today so I don’t know, how is it for everyone else?
@GrootDude Thanks to killer queues, I averaged about 120k an hour on killer. Went Survivor with the instant lobbies (PC) and averaged around 110k an hour. A little less BP, but I got to play a lot more matches so that helped with the XP to level up for shards for the shrine, too.
Yeah, I know those BP numbers aren't great, but I'm also normally a part-time, casual player. So, I'm not all that good at the game.
-
@InfinyMage I don't know what platform you guys are on, but during the day today on PC my killer queue times ranged from 15-20 minutes, while survivor was near instant. So, I spent 90 minutes on survivor and farmed BP.
For PC, Steamcharts show that DbD peaks during the normal work/school hours. From 11am until around 3pm it was around 45k players. Now at 8pm EST, it's sitting at just over 26k.
The day time peaks for DbD on PC always go that way, though. For some reason it peaks when we'd expect people to be at work or school, and dips by around 10k or so by prime time evening gaming time. Normal numbers would be around 25k peak in the afternoon, and down to 14k-17k at prime time evening. It's weird.

Is it 60 on it's own? I'm pretty sure that dailies aren't doubled.
@MisterCremaster Yes, the Kill a Survivor by Your Hand as [insert name] Killer is a 60k BP daily.
I got it last night for Myers and knocked it out then so I didn't have to Mori anyone during the BP event today. It was one of the rare instances where I tunneled someone (poor Bill) but he was worth a quick 60k BP, so his bad luck. 😋
I just used a green 1-kill Mori. Wasn't bringing an Ebony just for a 1-kill daily.
-
@Captain_Spaulding Well said. And as I said above, I've been playing survivor for the bloodhunt due to near instant queues for me and therefore more BP per Hour on average.
And so far, I've been enjoying it. People are right, it is a lot less stressful than Killer. I've never been one side over the other as far as game design and such, but as far as play time, I think I am definitely going to be much more of a 50/50 player going forward.

One side mains Survivor, the other mains Killer. Naturally they'll be at each others throats because they're common enemies with different goals.
But that's what usually stems toxicity when that is a mechanic in a game. One side will hate the other, and constantly call them out on faults and other things. It's good to keep an open mind for both sides for the sake of balance and sportsman ship, and it will also help you understand them both as well.
It's what I do, because I like a fair and fun game for both sides when I'm a Killer, and when i'm a Survivor i'd hope for the same thing from the Killer as well. It's sort of a... "Walk a mile in their shoes" mentality, which goes a long way.
@FireHazard I hear you, and that is very much a typical gamer mentality. Especially in a competitive (read: PvP) game.
And it isn't even just asymmetrical as @Peanits stated, though that does play some factor. Look at Overwatch. There, you have heroes designed to specifically be stronger against other heroes. Shield Tanks are crying for Doomfist to be nerfed (their weakness), Doomfist mains tell the tanks to "git gud." Or you have Supports at the throats of most Reaper or Tracer mains. And so forth.
People always want their side (or hero) to be stronger. Too many gamers don't look at the bigger picture of what's good or healthy for a game. They just want the "W" and damn near feel entitled to it. I saw enough of it in my own game design days.
I played mostly killer here, but always tried to see the survivor side of things. That's why I didn't camp or tunnel unless absolutely needed to get something . . . anything . . . done in a match so I didn't leave completely empty handed.
Playing Survivor during the Bloodhunt because queues are nearly instant for me, and killes are taking 15-20 minutes (so more average BP per hour overall). I've already been tunneled a few times, and camped once. On the camper, I just suicided on first hook. He wouldn't leave the area for whatever reason even when he found no one else around the hook. So, he lost BP on me overall. Right now, he'll wait a while for his next match. I was in my next match about 30 seconds later.
I lose nothing.
(Sidebar: In that match only two gens got done, and they were the two I did. So, I didn't feel bad about leaving the other three randoms behind. I don't know what they were doing, but it sure as hell wasn't generators.)
-
You can't remember Blizzard having lingering bugs? You must be new. I've played them for 25 years, and yes . . . they do.
WoW had bugs that lasted for months, including a looting bug that would freeze your character and require a complete game restart.
Reinhard's Earth Shatter, his ultimate ability, was bugged in Overwatch for two years. Doomfist spent a year after his release riddled with so many bugs that he was damn near considered a throw pick. Reaper's Shadow Step has been bugged since launch where, when teleporting to an upper level of something, it doesn't go where targeted.
And the list goes on. Don't even get me started on the Heroes of the Storm bugs.
-
@Marcurie Well, at least he's playing her in-character. Amanda never followed the rules, that's what caused Kramer to get rid of her.
@StupidPallets I have all four of those perks on her. I have got to try that build at least once. 😈
-
@FireHazard Oh, I only mentioned them because we were talking about the general roadmap for a post or two.
-
@FireHazard Archives sounds interesting. I highly doubt I will buy the Rift battlepass, though. I did that once in Paladins and once in Realm Royale, and found out that I don't like them. It hits the gamer trigger in me where I feel a need to play a particular game more than I usually would; since on what time I have I like to play different games like DbD, Overwatch, Identity V, Roblox with the wife and little man, et cetera.
I'm not one of those people against battlepasses, mind you. Many people like them. I just don't like feeling that need to play. It's the same reason I finally left WoW. Paying that monthly sub hit that trigger in me, I realized.
And it's one of those cases where I know it's happening, and yet either give in to it or get a nagging feeling like I wasted my money, no matter how small the actual dollar amount.
-
@FireHazard Yep, I have a pic of that roadmap saved.
I might screw around on DbD mobile along side Identity V when lounging on the couch, but I won't spend a dime on it.
Same with Switch. Until there is cross-progression like Hi-Rez does with their games, I won't touch DbD on a second platform. They got the MSRP and DLC costs out of me once, momma didn't raise no fool. I'd be willing to pay a second base game MSRP, but I'll be damned before I pay for DLCs again and go through this asinine grind a second time. I'd rather be castrated with two rocks.
I don't expect anything significant to happen with Ranks until around May. My gut tells me it's going to take until the very end of the Year 4 roadmap as the image shows.
-
@FireHazard At first blush, I think it'll be a combination of both. The dedicated servers might give them more freedom with the matchmaker algorithm, data analyzing it, and adjusting it.
But the rank rework (assuming it is done well), should fix things beyond that. Especially if Killers are given separate ranks per, because then you'll have a single Killer player spread-out across the rank pool. They'll be Red on their mains, maybe green on others, and then starting in grays or yellows for killers they're just learning.
Reminds me a bit of the new Role Based SR in Overwatch competitive.
I strongly think that BHVR needs to drop resets with the rework and do season placements, instead.
-
@FireHazard Exactly. I mean, in pretty much every PvP game I have played (except for Battle Royales, since they just toss anyone and everyone into a match), unless the game is massively populated like Overwatch once was at its launch, you'll run into one of two things:
1) Matchmaking that has to toss a bunch of different skill levels together here and there.
2) Consistently long queue times.
And often, #1 is used to mitigate #2, because one thing that will piss a playerbase off more than a wonky match set-up, is having to wait too long for a match.
Gamers, in general, are not a patient bunch. I speak as someone with game industry experience. Hell, even knowing that, a consistently long queue time will irritate me, too, and send me to another game.
Sidebar: I'm expecting that for Killer starting tomorrow. So, I'll test that out with BP per Hour. It might serve me better to just go Survivor through the weekend.
-
@FireHazard It seems both my games have gone haywire on MM.
DbD's issues, and in Overwatch both the MMR matching in Quick Play and SR range-cap in Competitive seem to have been loosened more than before since RoleQ got forced.
Sigh. Guess it is what it is for now.
-
@FireHazard That's what I was assuming it was doing yesterday with the disparity in ranks. Fortunately, even the +6 ranks above my own were not an issue. I don't know if they were boosted from the bugged MM or what, but those Rank 12's and 11's played the same as Ranks 20's and 19's I'd faced.
Hell, last night the Rank 10 got sacrificed first. And the Susie didn't camp or tunnel, either, which shocked me. My 9-year-old went down third, and I went down last just as I found the hatch. Susie beat me to it by like two seconds. 😂
But we actually got four gens done. The 9-year-old and I did about 2/12 of them ourselves.
Then again, I'm not really unknowledgeable of the game, I just don't have a ton of play time so get rank reset back down fairly low, especially when I have to take a month or three off of the game (except maybe 20 hours a month) due to having back-to-back manuscript deadlines.
What I didn't see since the change were the purples and reds in my lobbies like I did during the MM bug.
-
@FireHazard So, last night I did a duo SWF with my 9-year-old who plays the game. He's Rank 20 and I am Rank 18. We had a Rank 15 and a Rank 10 pop in. I asked if they were a duo, but they weren't, they were each solo.
Killer was a rank 16 Susie.
If you average 20+18+15+10, you get 15.75. Which you'd round up to 16.
Seems the MM averaged our survivor ranks. So does it average in less than a 4-man SWF, but uses the highest rank in a 4-man? I'm not seeing consistency here. What am I missing?
-
@Masantonio Yep. Billy is being worked on now. Already almost level 15 on him, so half way to Enduring.
Spirit I'll likely knock out during the Bloodhunt that starts Thursday. I loathe Hex Perks and don't need Rancor, so am really only interested in Spirit Fury from her right now, which is also Level 30.
Then outside of PGTW and Thanatophobia, which I'll wait for the Shrine for because I don't really need them at the moment, I'll work on unlocking Survivor Teachables since after the Bloodhunt I'm likely going Survivor for a while. Need a break from always playing Killer.
-
I decided on Pig. I kind of enjoy her. I like the stealthy killers like her and Myers. Still not sure how I feel about Ghostface yet, though.
Next is Billy for enduring. Don't play him, so don't care about his other perks at the moment and Enduring is a mere Level 30.
@GrootDude To hell with Clown, lol. I want PGTW, but that's either a wait for Shrine or after I do the others I want. That is a Level 40 perk on him, and I hate playing him, so he isn't worth all the BP. PGTW and Thanatophobia (since I already have Nurse's Calling from the shrine) will likely wait for shrine. 😁
-
@billyboy I'm hoping it includes the separate ranks for each killer as they mentioned wanting to do.
-
Chapter 14 should be around December, so any rank rework will definitely take place after New Year's here in the U.S., and onward through Spring 2020 since its placement on the roadmap seems to start then, and continue all the way to the end of the roadmap (which would be around May 2020).
So, now that I think about it, yeah, probably around six to eight months or so. Yikes!
-
@FireHazard Just did another match and had two from Brazil, one from Sudan again, and one from U.K. This was after 8pm EST, so my thought that it might have been a day time MM issue was just eliminated.
-
@FireHazard What platform and region are you? Mochan is the Asian region, but not sure about platform.
Survivors in my lobby have been all over the regions during the day, as I mentioned earlier, but I am PC platform, east coast United States region.
Haven't tested it tonight. Am about to, but have been waiting for the Shrine update. I have BP to spend and wanted to see what was in the Shrine for shards before I commit the BP to unlocking something.
-
There is a Rank Rework scheduled for after Chapter 14, so maybe something will come with that.
-
Doc
-
@FireHazard Yeah. At least from my limited experience today, it seems like regions are all over the place.
-
@FireHazard I've also been checking steam profiles (not something I usually do) and noticed survivors from the U.K., Sudan, and Asia quite often.
Out of 5 matches, for a total of 20 survivors, only two were United States. Three were Unknown. The other 15 were U.K. or Asia, with a few from Sudan (different matches, so not SWF).

Isn't Grey Rank usually the one that gets the longest queue times though? Since most players that play are usually Yellow or above after a week or so of rank resets.
@FireHazard Oh, the queue times don't bug me. My killer queues are always like that during the day, which is why I tend to play at night. At night they are 2-4 minutes.
I included it for context since I tagged Peanits. I'm getting my Rank 18 Killer lobbies with Rank 12's and 11's for survivors, which is a +6 to +7 rank difference. I mentioned the queue times incase that was a factor, as in after that long it just keeps expanding the matchmaker to grab what it can along the Rank chain.
-
Likely just use whoever I have puddings and tier 3 BBQ on to farm BP. I'm not talking about trying to make survivors do a farm match, mind you, just the normal farm BP with those killers.
-
@ArrowTheGreat11 Yesterday, the matchmaking was still bugged to high hell.
Today, as part of the hotfix, MM was changed and should no longer do that. Check out the patch notes for the full rundown.
-
@DeadByMemelight said:
Seems to be the same on NA in purpe ranks. Killer queues take a long time, and survivor ranks are all over the place.
@DeadByMemelight @Peanits Same here as a Rank 18 killer. Queues are now around 10 minutes, and I'm getting anywhere up to Rank 12 and Rank 11 in my games. Granted, they aren't good Rank 12's and 11's, but that is till a +6 and +7 rank difference.
(I also have additional information in my below posts if you're interest, Peanits.)
-
Nope, not everyone is addicted, so it isn't a "we're all."
I actually come and go from DbD quite a bit, with long stretches in the "gone" column. Hell, my amount of time in the game is nowhere near my amount of time on the forums, which is also why you never see me post about balance, nerfs, or buffs.
However, now that I've (mostly) walked away from the game that I did primarily play for the past three years (Overwatch), we'll see if DbD can hold me for longer.
-
@Mochan I main Zenyatta, followed by Baptiste and then Moira.
It's frustrating when, as a Zen, I have gold elims and gold heals with silver damage.
Like, for one, what the hell is my healer partner even doing? For two, what is my DPS even doing?
Zen should never have gold heals unless he's partnered with Brigitte. 😂
-
@HatCreature I certainly hope so. My only concern at first blush is that the Hotfix notes mention SWF and the changes for that in regards to killer rank.
However, as a solo survivor at rank 18, I've been in matches lately with SWF teammates ranging in ranks from 12 to 4. The mentioned changes don't seem to address that fiasco.
So, hoping they fixed that as well.

Interestingly I've never used the Avoid slots in Overwatch. I welcome all comers. Overwatch is not the kind of game that feels toxic to play anyhow.
I use it much more since RoleQ. I main support, and if I see my DPS not being able to shoot worth a damn, or not switching as needed to counter what the enemy has (i.e. playing a Junkrat into a Pharah), they go on the avoid slot.
At my MMR, they aren't new players, so I give them less leeway. Now, I won't tell them to switch or what to do. Not my place. But I'll make sure not to team with them again.
-
It's a random. As a killer main, for two months straight I got a majority killer dailies.
The past two weeks, though, have been more a mixture of survivor and killer. I tend to just wait and reroll the survivor dailies until a killer daily pops up.
-
@LordGlint Yep, I remember that fiasco in Overwatch.
Now, they could do what Overwatch currently does. You have three avoid slots, and after seven days whoever you put on it automatically drops off unless you manually put them back on.
Needless to say, I've used those slots damned often. I've never kept anyone on there permanently. Matter of fact, after about two days or so they're usually replaced by someone else.
-
It isn't. And the hotfix for it releases tomorrow, by the way.
-
@MegsAreEvil Right. So only the low-level killer players should get punished for them deciding to play together with such a wide rank gap?
Oh, I see.
This change was needed ages ago.
Be glad they don't do what every other game with a Rank Ladder does and implement a rank-range cap on who can play in a team together. Too large a rank gap and no teaming.
-
@Pugpablo123 For me, nothing to bait. People are free to their opinions, and I have no problem with that.
Only in this case, I kind of agree with your bait. I love the core game design concepts of Friday the 13th a hell of a lot more than I do the core design concepts in DbD. But I enjoy both games.
If a studio that actually gave a damn came along and created a game along the lines of F13 gameplay, and actually made it a polished game, I probably wouldn't look at DbD again.
But F13 was Illfonic and Gun Media, and that was the issue.
-
@Yung_Slug Given some of the Entity's choices, I think it might be vaping some of that THC crap. 🤣
-
@GrootDude But unless I am wrong, you have hit red ranks on LF, yes? And been successful with him?
I'm not too concerned with your current rank only 10 days after a reset and with a bugged to hell and back matchmaker going on.
I'm already losing about 2 weeks of this current reset due to the matchmaker and refusing to play until it's fixed. And with my limited time as it is, I doubt I will climb much in only a little over two weeks. Next reset I am going to be way, way down in the grays.
At this point, I'll probably just keep myself there and farm BP with BBQ, gen kicks, chases, and maybe one sacrifice a match. And just let survivors escape so I don't pip too much as I try to unlock decent builds.

I think you may have missed part of the point. I think with Spirit, I have a good chance of getting there (but again this post isn't about me). No way with Clown, and that is sad. The game should be balanced to have diverse killers at all tiers.
@themirrortwin I think that in this reply you are moving the goal post slightly. First, you absolutely do not need to use the holy trinity of Spirit, Nurse, or Billy to be successful at rank one. Just look at @GrootDude with his Leatherface.
However, the clown is not very viable at red ranks. Unfortunately, not every character or hero in a PvP game is going to be viable. There will always be some that just don't do well against highly skilled opponents due to weaknesses in their core design. Clown definitely seems to be one of them. This isn't unique to DbD.
But Clown is not an example of the game being survivor sided. He's an example of lack-luster design left to rot for too long.
@Omans said:
So what you're saying is you are a fairly new player (never hit rank 1 killer?) who is struggling to play against better players, yet you are able to play spirit and still get the 4k. Hmm.
I'm not saying gens don't go fast, but I am saying it is odd that killer players with less experience expect to be able to challenge and beat players with much more experience.
It is like a player new to Overwatch finding himself climbing the ranks and wondering why the games suddenly become more difficult.
@Omans And to be honest, as an Overwatch player since launch day, I've seen the exact, same posts over there. The other thing is, as I mentioned above in regards to his clown comment, an unfortunate by-product of any hero or character based PvP game is that there are inevitably going to be some that are just not decent picks at the high ranks against very experienced opponents. Clown is one of them here. Overwatch has its share as well. As does Paladins, and even the MOBA of your choice.
Sometimes as a Meta shifts, some of those outliers might get their spot. Look at how long it took Orisa to become Meta.
Unfortunately, BHVR has done next to nothing to help shift the Meta here in DbD in at least two years, and takes way too long to try to make weak-designed killers more viable. Look at how long it took them for Freddy. Clown has needed help for far too long now. And it isn't like they have a mega-investor backed pro-scene to worry about like Blizzard does with the OWL, where, right or wrong, they worry about changes and how that might shift things and hurt viewership over there. Look at what GOATS did to it, and now Double Barrier is starting to take a toll.
BHVR doesn't even have that to concern itself with, and is still slow enough that a snail looks like a jack rabbit.
-
@Atrushan88 Not just the monthly resets, but also the deranking without any sort of punishment.
Only Behavior would create a ranking system that then also serves as their matchmaking algorithm, and in addition to asinine monthly resets, also then allows players to derank themselves without repercussions and thereby completely gimmick and abuse the matchmaking.
I promise you that had a system like this been turned in as a Game Design class project, it would have received a failing grade because it utterly fails to do what it was designed to do. Yet Behavior released it commercially and appears proud of it.
-
The hotfix notes are the second post in this thread, below the main patch notes.
Keep in mind that no Hotfix has been released to the live servers yet, so final notes are subject to change.

Yeah, exactly that was the point I was trying to make. This game doesn't even have a ranked based matchmaking, what would his friend do when he gets demolished 10 hours straight by more experienced players? Uninstalling aswell? Apex is just one game if many who hasn't a ranked matchmaking. That's why I said maybe he should stop playing pvp online games all together.
@justarandy But you're wrong. DbD is supposed to have ranked as matchmaking. The Dev Team vehemently claims that the rank system is in place because it is their matchmaking algorithm.
The fact that it fails to function even remotely as they claim is because of the asinine monthly resets and the deranking without punishment, which is precisely why new players find it not fun in the slightest, and move on.
I will put money down that it is the primary culprit on why, after every free weekend and every MSRP sale, their steamcharts numbers plummet back down to the same old flat 20k-25k peak players again.
So, yes, DbD is supposed to have a matchmaking algorithm via rank. But Behavior has no clue what they are doing with it, and I'm saying this as someone with over a decade in actual commercial game design.
New Players are not going to chew glass in a game that is supposed to have matchmaking, per the Devs own words, because the Dev team is utterly incapable of actually creating a functioning matchmaker. If the new players wanted that headache, they'd probably just be playing Fortnite, Apex, Realm Royale, or the battle royale of your choice. They're trying to play DbD, where even Streamers talk about Rank being the matchmaker.
So, they come in expecting a matchmaker as there is supposed to be, but instead find one riddled with enough design holes to fly a Death Star through.
-
@NoShinyPony Well, damn, it's going to be a double-whammy on console, then. Free weekend ends sometime tomorrow, but the sale continues until Wednesday, and then Thursday starts the Bloodhunt.
So . . . what other games do you have in your library that you and your friends can play? I'd seriously consider those for the next week or so.
I'm on PC. I prefer Killer simply because I've tried, but I find survivor boring. I also play Solo, which makes survivor doubly boring. None of my friends or family will touch the game because of the deranking to manipulate the matchmaker on top of the idiotic grind + bloodweb RNG combination. Well, outside of the sister who tried it, but that experience has already been discussed.
Anyway, come the Bloodhunt, I can probably forget about playing my killers, just like every other bloodhunt, unless I want to play PC Gaming Lobby Simulator.
Kind of makes me thankful that Behavior not fixing the matchmaker before leaving for the weekend turned me back onto Overwatch. At least I'll have that to play.
Unfortunately, that also means their lack of action this weekend and me having to go play elsewhere has likely made it so that I'll end up playing DbD less than expected moving forward, and therefore spending a hell of a lot less money on the game. Because their next big patch, the mid-chapter patch, launches the Rift and Archives into the game. And I have absolutely zero confidence the game won't be completely screwed once again the moment they send that live.
-
@NoShinyPony said:
@Kilmeran Yes, I remember your post where you talked about your sister. It's a very good example for the current situation/problem.
I'm sorry that I can't be optimistic in this case, but I also think that the number of players will stay at 20-25k. It would be such a shame if this great license doesn't increase the number of players permanently. Hopefully I'll get proven wrong.
@NoShinyPony I know. Trust me, I know.
I returned a couple weeks ago after burning out on Overwatch and not liking RoleQ being forced into the game. I was completely prepared to leave Overwatch behind and just play DbD. Hell, I'd even uninstalled Overwatch.
Well, this weekend, I actually had decent time to play some video games for a change, which is like finding a unicorn. But guess what? Behavior didn't fix the damned matchmaker bug before they left for the weekend, so playing DbD was out of the question. So, I said "to hell with it" and reinstalled Overwatch for my PvP fix.
I played enough matches to get the 9 wins to unlock the Bastion skin on my son's account, the 9 wins to unlock it on my account, and just completed my 9 wins for Arcade mode for the three extra lootboxes. That's 27 wins in two days, which averaged me about 35 or so matches.
Those were matches I could have played in DbD if Behavior had just fixed the damned matchmaker. Even if it meant some extra hours for the Devs, you have a free weekend and a major sale going on for a PvP game: You fix the damned matchmaker as a number-one priority! Period.
But they didn't. So playing those matches in Overwatch showed me that . . . you know what? . . . I actually don't mind RoleQ. And there's Quick Play Classic in the Arcade for my non-RoleQ play.
So, allow me to thank Behavior for inspiring me to reinstall Overwatch and learn that information, all for leaving the matchmaker broken all weekend.
Matchmaker was broken a couple weeks ago. Peanits said they made some adjustments to fix it. A major DLC launches, and they break it again and leave it broken over a free weekend?
I guess they don't care to grow the game. Or maybe they think enough will just mindlessly stick around because of a Stranger Things DLC. Or maybe they're just banking on the Switch version money this coming week.
So, riddle me this? Why should I continue giving my time, never mind any money, to Behavior?
-
@SnakeSound222 The system wasn't designed with any semblance of knowledge of how a ranking system is supposed to work.
My eldest son, at one point, was in Full Sail years ago. And I literally saw better ranking and matchmaking systems designed from students years away from a degree.
-
@kiNgOwL You'd probably be better served posting this in the Tournaments section of the forums, where others are also trying such things and people interested in DbD Tournaments tend to congregate.
-
@Weck Well, they tried back in June 2018. And it was a disaster.
I don't usually go to TydeTyme, but he talks about it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZX0ZtJtyUM
Searching for videos of the tournament on YouTube isn't yielding much, and likely for good reason. But here is at least Round 1 from the Xbox side of things. They did brackets for each platform: PC, PS4, and Xbox One. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6Amz7vMW8o
I know some folks out there hold small tournaments for fun. I believe TydeTyme was doing that at one point. But an esport organization wanting to do it in DbD as something serious? I would highly recommend against it.
To be honest, a DbD esport offers nothing that isn't already available by just watching the top Fog Whisperers stream. It's the exact, same thing.
