  • @BunnyTheHutt Because not all connections are created equal. For example, I live on the east coast, U.S. I am near, as such things go, to one of their data centers. I also have top-of-the-line internet at my home since I work from home and absolutely need the speed.

I have had zero issues with the Dedicated Servers during this live test.

Yet, many others have had issues.

That is why just doing an internal test would not yield accurate data.

It was sent to live for the test to gather as much data as possible, from as many users as possible. A majority of players never test on the PTB. This is true of every video game and every test server out there. Major studios complain about it all the time.

BHVR needs as much data from as many players as possible, and this was honestly the best way to gather it.

  • @FriendlyGuy Yep. GF comes off to me as a guy in a costume wanting to be Myers, but just being a nobody. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Of the two, I'll tale my Myers any day of the week.

  • @FriendlyGuy I'm still not sold on putting GF into my killer rotation. The inconsistency of the reveal mechanic irks me to no end. I have no problem being outplayed, I'm not a great DbD player and expect it. But I draw the line when a specific mechanic is inconsistent enough to cause it to happen.

If I had paid more than the $3 that I did for him via the recent sale, or even more than the normal $5, I would have sought a Steam refund over the issue.

  • I'm not married to DbD, so if Project Resistance ends up giving me more fun, then that is where I will be. My play time is limited, so playing both of them (plus Overwatch) is unlikely.

  • @TheRealHansGruber Thana is a Perk I do not have yet. I have Nurse's Calling from the Shrine, but was waiting for the Shrine for Thana instead of popping BP into Nurse to get her to Level 35.

  • @MJ_Out Just keep in mind, BHVR stated that the DC system will not be in place for the Phase One official roll-out of Dedicated Servers. Once they officially roll them out, there are several phases of further tweaks and features they are implementing before they get to the DC Punishment system.

So, the DC issue will not be addressed from the jump.

Just want to put that out there so people tap down their expectations that as soon as dedicated Servers are launched, DC'ers will get their due. That won't be the case. It will likely be months later before that system comes. Most likely sometime in the first half of 2020, from the way it sounded.

  • @Cetren Gotcha. Yeah, my initial thought was to get Thrilling, then Surge, then Corrupt Intervention.

  • @PeenutsButt3r It might not be that simple. It's going to depend on what company they're doing the servers through, and where they have data centers already established.

  • Internet maybe?

I am east coast, U.S., and have top-of-the-line internet, and thus far haven't had an issue during the Dedicated Server live test.

Well, I did have one issue last night where it took me three mouse clicks to get my M1 strike to go off, but that only happened once, in my first match of the night. After that, everything was smooth for me.

  • @Cetren I'm probably going to end up buying the entire DLC just for completion reasons. I own every other Killer and Survivor already.

I only play about 20% survivor, and have to be careful about my survivor rank now since sometimes the 9-year-old likes us to SWF once in a while (he mostly plays around on Killer), and as you can imagine he hovers between Ranks 18-20, but I played against Demo a few times and enjoyed it.

As Killer, since my video game play time is limited and we reset ranks every month, I'll however between Ranks 15-17 or so, so I'm not in the higher ranks where killer choice matters nearly as much. I'm likely getting Demo.

I like the Stealth killers, don't get me wrong, but after some matches as Myers, Pig, or learning GF, I like a different style. That's why I also do Legion and Clown. I have Hag at level 40, and might pick her up a little more, haven't decided yet. So, Demogorgon sounds fun.

Hey . . . which should I unlock first, then? Trilling Tremors or Surge? I plan to do both, just curious which to go for first.

  • @AngryFlower Does sound fun, though. I'm mainly an Overwatch player since 2016, so I've nothing against learning on the required higher skill curves. Doesn't mean I'll ever get good with them, but I've nothing against trying.

Except Nurse. The learning curve on Nurse frustrates me. One day, though, one day . . . ๐Ÿ˜‚

  • @AChaoticKiller Yeah, I watched a couple YouTube videos on him, and that was basically what they advised for stalk. Go to 95% or so, get close, finish it, strike.

  • @DBDbuildsYT Well, they're still not done yet, so time will tell.

That said, however, while I hope like hell they get it all ironed out, I stated here at the forums months ago that given the coding issues we've experienced with DbD for years now, I had very little confidence in Behavior's upcoming Netcode for Dedicated Servers.

    But, time will tell.

  • @DBDbuildsYT Extremely doubtful. As a corporation, they are invested in the Dedicated Severs now. They might get delayed yet again before release sometime in the Fall, but one way or another they are coming.

It wouldn't be in their best interested to have two different builds: Dedicated Servers on Switch, and P2P on the other three platforms. They're going to want build consistency across all platforms.

Plus, if they are planning cross-platform play any any point, the consistent build across the platforms is a must.

Hold on for a second. So the last 3 gens were all near the hook?

That's a /thread, you're basically whining about the killer not throwing the game.

    @phantasmal Precisely.

Hell, last night I had an Autohaven match while I was testing GF. I noticed three gens set-up real nice right near the basement area. Map RNG could not have smiled more upon me. Once I decided to let them have the far away gens, and got one survivor into the basement, it was a snowball effect.

Not only did they go out of their way for the basement saves while I kept my three generators safe, which map spawn put within easy distance of the basement, but it resulted in a rotation of two on the basement hooks at nearly every step of the way since the first hook.

My goal was originally to three-gen them with Exposed, slug and then hook, and end it that way, but between their over altruism and my guarding those god-placed gens, they lost the match with only two gens completed.

I'm fairly certain had I had post-match chat open, I would have been called all sorts of names.

I guess I was supposed to just let those three-gens pop whenever the Survivors wanted, and by doing so also just hand them their overly altruistic basement saves, too.

    Yeah, not gonna happen.

If that makes me a camper by Survivor cosmology, then I'll just pitch my tent right here.

  • I'm too old to bother with being pissed off or toxic in a video game. Still, it's a nice pledge and more people should take it to heart.

In this game, I just turn off chat on PC. I play killer, so can't talk to people anyway except after the match, and at that point I'm clicking and queuing for the next match as soon as possible, anyway.

In Overwatch, though, although I always disable match chat with the opposing team, I'm always nice to my teammates. They're bad at the role or Hero they're playing? Oh well, it's just a video game. I can't effectively play the entire roster, either.

Number 4, I don't do, however. I used to. But I learned a while back that in the wild west of the internet, it's like spitting into the wind. Until the day comes where accounts are openly linked to real names or real social media accounts, where people are actually held personally accountable for their internet behavior in games, those vile things will never go away, and can't effectively be combated on the internet.

  • @Volfawott I play Myers, Pig, Legion, and Clown. Obviously, I need to get both. I was just curious which to unlock first.

  • @Yamaoka @White_Owl I'd be willing to bet this is being done due to the Switch.

The Switch release required them to build Dedicated Servers for that version. It's most likely that since they had to do it for the Switch release, that they decided now was finally the time to just do them for all platforms to keep the builds consistent across the board.

We asked for three years, and were basically told that it wasn't on the plate. Well . . . obviously not until they decided to cash in on the Switch platform.

  • @Ark_the_Bonsai The servers being on Live is still a test, same as it would have been for PTB. The reason they went to a Live Test, though, is due to needing as much data as possible.

There are still a lot of PC players who don't install and test on the PTB, so these live tests allow them to get as much data as possible on where the Dedicate Servers need work.

They are being tested throughout early October. These are not the permanent builds or officially launched Dedicated Servers yet.

  • @DudeDelicious I was thinking Thrilling, then unlock Surge and run those two together. Maybe with a side of PGTW.

    What do you think?

  • @FriendlyGuy Funny story, when I first got him and was just messing around to test him out, I kept forgetting to stalk and was just using Night Shroud for the sneak attacks.

Next thing I know, some Streamer or someone said to do the same thing, and I was like: ๐Ÿคฃ

  • @DBDbuildsYT In the interest of full disclosure, I did uninstall. Then my 9-year-old asked to watch me play some DbD tonight because he wanted to see Ghostface played.

So, I did reinstall, and I did play a few matches. Shockingly, they weren't too bad tonight. I consider that the Matchmaker RNGods feeling generous. But, I certainly will not be playing all that much.

    Not even close.

  • I do believe I am going to go Thrilling Tremors. Everyone brought up some solid points, too, so thank you guys.

And @TWiXT , I have all the perks you mentioned to pair with TT unlocked except Thana, which I am waiting for the Shrine to get because I absolutely, unequivocally, cannot play Nurse to save my own life (already have Nurse's Calling from the Shrine a while back), and Surge, which is the next Perk that I'm going for after TT.

Usually, I will play my mains a bit with BBQ and Pudding and dump the points into whoever I need the teachable from, but in the case of GF and Demo, I'm actually going to play those two as I level them. I already have over 300k waiting for GF right now, after doing three dailies tonight that happened to also be on Killers that I had BBQ + Pudding for (I know it doesn't double the dallies), plus some test matches with GF and Plague.

Plague . . . not for me at this time. Maybe down the line. ๐Ÿ˜

  • @PhantomMask20763 I always prefer tracking over direct slowdown. C.I. is one of those perks that doesn't seem very useful beyond the initial phase. Feels like a Ruin that gets cleansed, to be honest.

Whereas T.T. has a match-wide usage. Also, sounds like T.T. might pair well with Surge.

I've already considered Surge with PGTW, which means I might just have to buy Demogorgon afterall.

  • @TheHoodedOne Well, naturally. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I was asking in reference to my next Teachable between the two. I play on limited time, so it takes me about 10-12 days to get Teachables unlocked on a specific killer. Sometimes a full two weeks.

  • @Boosted_Dwight That's what I was thinking, to be honest.

    @GrootDude See above.

Also, after testing out both killers for a couple of matches, I might just go with Plague. With Myers and Pig being two of my mains, I don't know that I really want a third stealth killer after all.

That, and his whole reveal mechanic is irking me in a bad way for some reason. He's feeling like a poor man's Michael Myers.

  • @Attackfrog Always remember that the mere existence of Twilight also gave us Fifty Shades of Gray since that crap originally started out as Twilight fan-fic. ๐Ÿ˜‚

  • @GrootDude Tubi is a streaming channel like Netflix, Hulu, et cetera. Last I checked, Tubi had Highlander: The Series (as of a month ago, anyway). Tubi is free. No subscription fee like Netflix.

  • @Marcurie I had to look it up, as I remembered all the hoopla of her being on it back then, but X-Files wasn't on my watch schedule back in the 90s.

Apparently two episodes in Season 9. The first and second episodes of that season.

  • @GrootDude Tubi. Is. Free. ๐Ÿ˜

  • @GrootDude It hasn't been on Netflix for a while. Hulu did have it for almost two years, but it left there months ago. I think Tubi is running Highlander: The series right now.

The first two seasons were a bit weak, in my opinion. It really started to shine in Season 3. And despite my earlier post, that had absolutely zero to do with me working on it. That just happened to be the season where Adrian Paul, Jim Byrnes, and other main actors were finally allowed to have creative input into their characters, and started putting pieces of themselves into them. And that was when the show really started to shine. Both the acting and the storylines vastly improved, and continued to do so for Seasons 4 and 5.

  • @GrootDude Highlander was a bit before your time, unless you caught it repeated on Netflix or Hulu when they had it.

It was a huge franchise in the 1990s, including having had its own best-selling CCG, which I did some work on, and a never-released table-top RPG, which I also did some work on.

They used to also hold themed cruises every year. I was on the 1998 one.

  • @Attackfrog said:

that's cool info (Not being sarcastic).

Lucy Lawless was also in Parks n Rec if I'm not mistaken as Ron Swansons new wife in the later seasons.

not sure what this has to do with any of this but just fyi. She always plays that sort of no-nonsense -strong-female. (Which she definitely pulls off). Shoes even better at it as she ages.

@Attackfrog Yeah. It was the style of character when she was on X-Files as well.

  • @GrootDude Oh yeah, I forgot Netflix had them at one point.

To be honest, I didn't watch a lot of Hercules and Xena. At that point in my life, I was actually working on Highlander: The Series, which ran from 1992-1998, so was busy. I worked on Seasons 3, 4, and 5.

  • @Weck Below is a little bit from YouTube, just to see Lucy Lawless back in the 1990s.

Both Hercules and Xena were done by Sam Rami, who created and did the Evil Dead franchise with Bruce Campbell (they are friends since they were teenagers), the original Toby McQuire Spider-Man trilogy, Darkman, Quick and the Dead, and other stuff.

Bruce even guest starred in both Hercules and Xena as Autolycus, the King of Thieves. Matter of fact, he often had a guest shot in most of Rami's stuff, including those Spider-Man films.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wetU9DioMxg&list=RDQMKdMUgd-cl6A&start_radio=1

  • @Attackfrog Yep, without a doubt. I'm 47, so I was in my 20's when Xena and Hercules first ran. And she was way hotter in Ash vs Evil Dead.

  • @Weck True. And remember when he thanked everyone for the petition to Netflix to revive the show, but said he was retired from playing Ash?

He announced several months ago that he and Sam are expecting to do an Evil Dead 4 movie after all.

What I want to know is: Will it somehow continue from the show? That would make sense, because they finally got Ash into the post-apocalyptic future, which was the original ending they wanted for Army of Darkness that the studio would not allow them to do. So, Ash vs Evil Dead finally got Ash to where Bruce and Sam originally wanted him.

Plus, well, it would be sweet to see Pablo and Kelly again, too. Since Ash was heading off to see what had become of them.

  • @AshleyWB Fair enough. But what about folks like me who have over a decade commercial experience in game design, and have worked in the game industry?

Can I say that this game, three years post Live Launch, still feels and acts like a Beta phase game? Because it does.

That's not to say it's a bad game, it isn't. But it is a poorly managed game. That is also not on the Devs, themselves, but on those calling the shots. Beginning with Cote and moving upward along the food chain.

  • @DBDbuildsYT Sadly, the matchmaking isn't broken. This is now working as intended. If the matchmaker cannot find you a match near your ranks in what it considers a reasonable amount of time, it now expands parameters to a hard cap of -6/+6 ranks.

Meaning as a Rank 9, the OP can now legitimately face survivors across a range of Rank 15 through Rank 3.

Behavior went on record with that this past Wednesday. It is now the intended design: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/92295/developer-update-september-2019#latest

The fact that he's faced Red Ranks, meaning the MM went into an expanded search above his rank, doesn't shock me. For the past week, I have regularly been facing survivors +5 or +6 ranks above me as a mere Rank 15 killer. And this after waiting 10 or more minutes for a match in the first place.

And this is on PC, east coast region, U.S.

Sadly, I had to uninstall the game a day or so ago. Waiting that long for a match, to consistently get people way above my skill level, is simply not fun. And I'm not interested in playing DbD as a sweaty-tryhard game.

  • Yeah, well, the crappy thing is, the Ranks 8 and the Rank 7 are completely possible now if you're Rank 13, but the Rank 5 should not have been. Depending on whether or not the MM can make a match with people near your rank, it will keep expanding up to a hard limit of -6/+6 your rank.

At this point, why even have Rank as a matchmaking algorithm.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/92295/developer-update-september-2019#latest

  • @captainlongshlong Behavior recently came out and explained that when the matchmaker takes too long to find a match, it will broaden the parameters and go as far as a 6-rank difference, up or down, to your rank.

So, for example, as a Rank 7, you could legitimately face survivors anywhere between Rank 13 through Rank 1.

    It was explained here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/92295/developer-update-september-2019#latest

    So, working as intended.

And since my lobbies have been a consistent 10-12 minutes since this Hotfix went live, I'm regularly getting a 5 or 6 rank difference between me and survivors, but always with them being higher than me. See my post right above your own.

  • I just uninstalled tonight. I don't care about the SWF changes because when I play survivor, it is Solo anyway (I mentioned my son in an earlier post, but he rarely plays so isn't a solid issue for me on the SWF changes).

The issue I have is that since that hotfix change, my Rank 15 Killer lobbies are taking a full 10-12 minutes each time, regardless of time of day (east coast U.S. region), and then when I do get a lobby, it is typically 5 or 6 ranks above my own.

Such fun waiting in a 10-12 minute lobby for a match like that. And this only started happening after the hotfix.

I'll keep an eye here and there on patch and hotfix notes for DbD, but at this point I'm moving on to other games. Lobbies are too long, and for my skill level the matches I get aren't all that fun given that the Survivors are way more experienced than me, due to the MM broadening the search as wide as it is because the MM is unable to make a fair match in the first place.

I don't have a solution to propose. Obviously, the game needs to retain more new players. Unfortunately, Behavior seems to have an unprecedented skill at driving new players away.

  • What should have been done is the general Perk pool like we have, and then Killer specific perks being for that Killer only, just like add-ons. The teachable system doesn't scream to me that a lot of foresight was used during the game's design phase.

That would have made survivors more than just skins, too. That's one thing I liked better in Friday: The 13th, you had a solid reason to play a specific Counselor.

Plus, it would have cut down on the combinations for such overpowered builds by quite a bit.

  • @Leonardo1ita Expecting everything to be fair in a game like DbD, three-plus years into its lifespan, is a fallacy.

Every three months they add in a new killer and survivor. That means new sets of add-ons and new perks. With the Perk system allowing Perks to be unlocked across the board and placed into a single Killer, unlike the add-ons which are Killer specific.

At this point, there are inevitably going to be underpowered builds, normal builds, and overpowered builds, and it is simply an impossible task to tweak in such a way that underpowered and overpowered builds become impossible.

This is what happens when you implement a system like DbD uses, and then expand on it four times a year for going on four years: It eventually starts to get crushed under its own weight.

  • @SpaceCoconut If the Rift is like the Battlepasses in other games, then it doesn't need testing. It's simply an additional XP track gained through normal play. Reach Level X on the track and get Y cosmetic or item.

Unless they are doing something outside of the industry norm with them, there's really nothing to test.

  • @The_Manlet There are a lot of different factors that can be considered when designing a hidden MMR system.

The current system they have, though, considers not nearly enough factors.

At this point, the rank as matchmaker is about as useful as the no matchmaker system in a Battle Royale.

  • @The_Manlet The game needs to dump the Ranks entirely. It's a casual party game, not a competitive game in the sense that a rank ladder fits.

It's was a poor design decision for only having one mode of play. It needs to dump the ranks and simply go with a hidden MMR.

  • @siyke26 Trust me, you aren't the only one who is starting to feel forced to derank just to play with friends or family.

My kid plays the game, but is beginner rank and new. Guess what my options are? Only one of them means a fun game for him, and that is the one I'll be choosing.
