First, too many damned pictures. We really didn't need a visual history of your games played.
Second, the pics didn't help your case because you got a 3k or 4k in more games than you did not, even with the rainbow matchmaker.
Third, after 577 levels, one would think you'd understand the emblem system. If you are not pipping, then you are not taking enough of the necessary actions to earn the emblem points. Is that unbalanced? No. It is poor game design because BHVR uses the emblem system to shoehorn players into their preferred playstyle as developers.
So, you win more games than you lose, but you have to alter your play style to account for the emblem scoring requirements in order to pip and rank up, as others have pointed out.
-
Hell, at this point you could take a lot of that, especially the queue times, and apply it to playing DPS in Overwatch in RoleQ.
-
Well, to be honest, I fully intended to come back and add another Killer into the queue. But, I checked here first, discovered that the matchmaker is in the exact place it was when I walked away in December 2019, and decided to download DbD Mobile, instead.

that sounds realy good ^^
though i too would like to know what the "Blood Market" is xD
The blood market is its version of a bloodweb, kind of. But instead of Perks, which are randomly rewarded in mobile, the blood market only contains add-ons and offerings.

Yeah, I'll take a break from playing occasionally, but I'll still be on here to get the news.
Depends on what mates want to play or how work's been. Being an essential service kinda sucks some days.
I left in December 2019, the last time the matchmaker was screwed to hell and back (after it happening several other times during 2019, to boot), and just popped back over to see how things were, only to see . . . yep, here we are again.
So, checking news and such, but not reinstalling yet. At this point, I'll remain playing additional Overwatch matches with the friends & family 6-stack.
-
When I used to play the game, Myers and Doc.
-
Yep. The grind was precisely why everyone I personally knew that tried this game during a free weekend chose not to purchase and moved on at the end of it. They liked the play well enough, but the Perk grind was an absolute deal breaker.
-
At this point, just shelve the game and play something else. The matchmaking was broken just like this in November 2019. By December 2019, I had enough and left. Here we are in April 2020, and I come back over to see how the game is, to discover that matchmaking is exactly how it was in November 2019.
And the most pathetic part is that late November wasn't even the first instance. It came, stuck around, and left again multiple times throughout 2019.
At this point, chalk it up to BHVR being unable to handle their own system, don't put too much faith into their supposedly upcoming Hidden MMR system, and either play the poor matchmaker in DbD or let the game collect dust.
-
I left in December due to the matchmaking being exactly like this. Here we are in April, and it's still like this. I decided to check before reinstalling.
At this point, if they ever get their hidden MMR system into the game, I'll just give it three to four months to shake out and watch the forums to see when or if it will be worth it to reinstall. Sadly, not holding my breath with BVHR.
Meantime, I'll just keep playing Overwatch with my friends & family team (I play DBD solo as Killer mostly, since none of them are interested in this game) and wait for OW2 in 2021.

I recommend a refund and to purchase a better more balanced game. The toxicity will tire you out and you will just stop playing just play a better game.
Best advice given yet.
-
Why did I quit DbD?
Broken matchmaking for one. And the current break is not the first time it happened in 2019, either. Only this one has now carried into 2020.
For two, a complete and utter lack of confidence in the DbD development team.

And yet I watch killer mains stream and rhey 4k almost every game against rank 1s and rank 2s
Do they all just happen to be bad survivors?
Right. Folks who play DbD for 7-10 hours everyday. They are not indicative of the normal player base, which cannot play a video game all day on Twitch.
Using full-time, single game Twitch streamers as an example is like using Overwatch League players as an example for the average Overwatch player. They play the goddamn games for a living, and for an ungodly amount of hours every week. They are in no way representative of normal players nor the issues normal players face.
Normal players will rarely become that good at a game unless they are somehow naturally gifted because they simply cannot commit those hours to a video game. They have normal jobs.
-
@AvisDeene Exactly. I stopped playing way back when this current matchmaking fiasco first started. I went back to Overwatch. I just popped back into the forums to see what was happening.
I see they changed Ruin, but I never used it so: whatever. But, matchmaking is still broken. I've never seen a PvP game that relies on a matchmaker have one so broken so consistently and for so long.
At this point, get rid of it. Just remove ranks, remove pipping, and just toss players together and award BP based on emblem play. I mean, I wouldn't play it like that. It's why I don't play Battle Royales. But at least they would stop embarrassing themselves.

I really think it’s intentional. If they actually do fix it permanently, it would probably make queue times much longer and players will drop like flies.
I may be wrong, but I don’t think so. Something as vital as marching players with similar skill should be a #1 priority for developers who care about the enjoyment of all their players.
@AvisDeene I'm starting to wonder about that, myself. If I recall, a week or so ago someone posted a thread about one of the Devs asking in the Discord how people would feel if matchmaking no longer considered ranks and just tossed everyone together.
People talk about the 20k-30k players DbD consistently has on Steam. Yes, it puts DbD in the Top 20 for Steam, but considering those are global numbers, not just a specific region, they aren't that great when discussing a PvP game that must also create matches based on region and also within certain rank parameters.
I just don't think they have the player base to effectively make matches across a range of rank brackets. At this point, I would remove the rank and emblem system entirely, and just award BP for the match.
-
@AvisDeene At this point, my opinion is that they've proven to be utterly incapable of fixing it. The current Matchmaking problem, which has been an issue since early to mid December at least, isn't a one-off. This has been a repeating problem for the past year.
They fix it. Then release a new patch and it's back to square one again. It sits and sits, they fix it, release a patch, and there it goes again.

I have actively recommended against it to my fans when we talk video games.

But in doing the update, we focused on making him more fun to play as well as against.
LoL is littered with changes they made due to characters being annoying to play against. Most notably Darius, who had a 60% ban rate, but a 48% win rate.
Hold on. Did you seriously just compare a change in DbD to a change in LoL?
One being a 5v5 MOBA game of equal team sizes and an actual MMR, and one being a 4v1 asymmetrical game with completely different design and balances needs, and in desperate need of a ranking-MMR system that isn't easily abused by a Kindergartner?
No offense, but you need far, far better comparison examples. That would be like comparing DbD to Overwatch design and balance decisions.
-
@Iceman Depends on how deeply DbD is financially funding the (again failed) Deathgarden. And it is funding it. Not only has it been repeated by players in the Deathgarden reddit as to why the Devs over there said they weren't concerned with such low player numbers, but four posts above this one (three above yours) another DbD poster stated how the fact that DbD was funding Deathgarden was stated in a Dev Video over there.
I suppose that explains the Battlepass and new monetization, since DbD is funding both itself and Deathgarden nowadays.
-
@zyntex By chance, if you have time, could you link me the video on my wall. I'm doing some research into the topic, I would greatly appreciate it.

You mock the developers, but you don't seem to realise that they spend their time working on the game, not playing it.
After a long day at work, the last thing they'd likely want to do is casually play the game they dedicate their career to working with.
They don't have time to spend thousands of hours playing the game and getting good at it.
@Superyoshiegg That's on them. I worked in both the table-top and video game industries, and I always played the games I was working on. If I wasn't enjoying and having fun in the game, how in the hell could I expect the players out there, my fellow players, to do so.
The thing is, I was a designer who was also a gamer. I loved what I did and loved playing what I was creating. If not, then it was either the wrong career choice, or the game was a bad design.
@justarandy Precisely. Working on a game is a job. Period. And since BHVR prides itself on the claim that their Devs work normal full-time hours, and not the normal industry 80-100 hour weeks, then their job is the same as someone else working full-time nowadays. And gamers find time to game. A Dev, especially those in any type of leadership position for design, should know the game inside and outside from both a design and player perspective.

I don't know, I like this event. It's not something special but it is something. I like the decorations and the design.
This is what I don't understand. This is a horror game, where you paid an MSRP, where they want you to pay quarterly for DLCs, pay quarterly for a Battlepass, and have a cash shop on top of all that. And "It's not special but it is something," is okay for a Halloween event?
It's no wonder a lot of these game companies barely try anymore and just go all out to milk their players' wallets.
It's a damned shame that games that aren't even horror themed managed to pull off better Halloween events this year. While here in Dead by Daylight, BHVR just continues to do the minimum while expecting you to continuously open your wallet.
And I can see from many threads that some people just continue to open the wallet no matter what. I guess that's what Cote must have meant by: "pretty good job, so far."
The EA-style business model is working out great for them.
-
@ProfessorDunwich @SpaceCoconut I called that one when it was on PTB. Not only did I see it happen even then on enough streams, big and small, but in my own matches on PTB as well. I even posted that prediction in my replies to some threads. I'd seen it happen enough, too, in other games that implemented Challenges with a Battlepass.

My wife has said the same thing. It's more like I'm very passionate about this game and frustrated that the devs make questionable decisions in regards to balance. I mean, designing killers to be deliberately weak against stronger survivors doesn't sound like a good balance decision to me.
Prioritizing a battle pass instead of changing up the store to make that income and then refocusing the balance team on the long standing core issues of the game would sound like an investment in bolstering the playerbase through better gameplay rather than taking advantage of the playerbase they have with their predatory battlepass.
Honestly, I've been playing a bit of Destiny 2 and Outer Worlds recently, but it's easier to create videos with dead by daylight matches with the limited time I have available. I'd have to spend several hours playing the other games in hopes of finding interesting footage or going through questlines to highlight specific weapons or storylines.
It's honestly just more convenient to do a match or two and use that as background footage or to highlight a specific problem... which also says a lot about a problem if you only need one match to highlight it and can get that single match in one try.
I have a full time job so I don't make anything from my videos. Maybe someday if I find the right style or if people actively look for dbd discussion videos, but for now I'm just a casual player who doesn't just like dead by daylight...
And the devs consistently disappoint.
If I'm being honest, I'm just waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 and Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen at this point. I'm picky about what I spend my time on.
@SpaceCoconut You mentioned the Battlepass again. Interesting thought about that. At the Steam forums and Reddit for Deathgarden, when folks talk about the game needing to go F2P to get players into it since they're averaging 50 or so peak a day, I see people replying with how the Deathgarden Devs have come out and stated that F2P and a cash shop are not necessary, because profits from Dead by Daylight are funding Deathgarden and keeping it afloat right now.
So, we have all the issues here, and now a new form of monetization, and the Deathgarden Devs come out and openly state that DbD is funding their development?
I don't follow Deathgarden enough to have seen such a Dev claim with my own eyes, but it might be worth you researching for a video.
Yes, companies the size of BHVR (and bigger) do such a thing all the time. But given all the lingering and new issues in DbD, and the questionable move to put a Battlepass into it to monetize it further, it does paint this whole thing in a bad light to me when the Deathgarden Devs allegedly come out and claim that a game with a 50 peak player daily base is being funded with profits from this game, in the condition this game is in.
-
@SpaceCoconut Yeah, I saw all that writing on the wall when they first talked about how the event was going to be done.
So, I've been playing the Dying Light Halloween stuff, Halloween Terror in Overwatch for the Sombra Demon Hunter skin this week (got the Baptiste skin from week two and Junkrat from week 1), and have simply been enjoying myself in State of Decay 2 which I just bought on its 50% off sale, and the Batman Arkham games that Epic gave away for free last month.
In other words, games that are not DbD.
I've seen your posts here and watched your videos since early September (when I first visited your channel). You are obviously unhappy with BHVR and the state of DbD. And I don't blame you. I agree with you. But have you considered just moving on? Or is your income, unfortunately, too married to this game?
And I mean none of that in a negative way. I've moved on, but I also made a conscious choice to never become a content creator for this game because I recognized the issues with BHVR's game design philosophy a couple years ago.
-
I've been playing State of Decay 2. Loving it.
I also play Overwatch and Paladins.
-
@Cardgrey Nope. Peanits addressed when that data was released that a DC is considered a death.
-
@Boss Thanks for the advice. I'm going to bookmark it in my browser.
-
@Boss I'm thinking of dumping close to 600k BP into Wraith because I always found him fun to mess around with, but never put BP into him past Level 15.
Any tips? And keep in mind, I am low ranks, so won't be going against purples or reds for a while yet, since I don't play regularly.
-
@Mochan To be honest, cross-play, and cross-progression, is one of the major reasons I play Paladins and Realm Royale from Hi-Rez.
Whether I play on my PC, Switch, or my kid's Xbox One, I can not only get matches fast as hell, but I also use the same account and maintain my progression across all platforms.
So, I spend money on H-Rez. A lot more, too, than I spend on Dead by Daylight, Overwatch, Apex Legends, or the other games I play without the feature. I reward and patronize companies who do it right. The others? Not so much.

So just make it where it says "Killer/Survivors win(s)"?
@TAG @Mat_Sella Exactly. And until they do, I define what I personally consider a win for my personal matches.
See, in Overwatch and Paladins, which I primarily play, the game clearly states Victory or Defeat at the end of a match. So, the game clearly defines the result of a match for me. I accept that.
Here in DbD, it doesn't, so I don't. For me, I set a goal of a certain number of Bloodpoints per match. As Killer, I might even run BBQ and/or a Pudding to up my goal amount. If I achieve my BP goal, I consider it a win. I will even purposefully let Survivors complete the last gen or two simply because I don't care to sacrifice them and also pip due to it.
I really don't care to keep pipping and ranking up at this point, as I am still unlocking a lot of things to get decent build combinations available. So, my win goal is BP for the asinine grind. Sacrifices and pips are not my goal.

Mercedes Lackey, the best-selling author, used to play City of Heroes back when it was still a live retail MMO, and regularly posted fan-fic about it back then.
Vin Diesel used to play WoW during its early years.
There are many celebrities who play video games. I forget which game Angelina Jolie played when they interview her several years ago, but I remember she was an avid player of it at the time.

I voted, but I'm going to skip posting a "why."
Simply put, I refuse to add more fire to the us vs them mentality that already infects these forums like a plague.

@Theoretical_Heart It might also be that DbD turned me off of cosmetics a while ago. I'll spend $10 for a new hero in a MOBA, no problem.
Hell will freeze over and the second coming of Christ will occur before I spend $10 on a cosmetic skin, though. So, BHVR turned me off of worrying about them a while back. Nor would I spend Shards on them, when their cost for cosmetics is the price of a Shrine Perk, or in many cases several Shrine perks.
-
@Theoretical_Heart I logged into PTB when it was active and went through the Challenges, then went through all the tiers on the Rift.
In my personal opinion, the cosmetics for Killers are extremely lackluster. Plus, I don't play Nurse, Trapper, or Hag.
I don't play enough Survivor to care one ounce about those cosmetics, but none of them really grabbed me either.
As far as the charms, they're as attractive to me as the plethora of sprays in games like Overwatch. I.e., not something I care to spend time grinding to get.
All in all, except for the occasional Challenge here and there just for a few extra BP, I see myself just continuing to play DbD normally and not even bothering to worry about the Rift-- neither the paid nor free tracks.
The only other Battlepass that gave me such a "meh" feeling was in Apex Legends. I just see the Rift as lackluster at best.
-
The moment this game allowed deranking on purpose, and Devs in the past even suggested how to do it to avoid any potential bans (work on a gen first, get in a chase first, do something to at least assist the team first, then feel free to die on first hook), made the entire ranking system an absolute joke, even as far as using it for matchmaking went.
At this point, I just treat DbD as a casual party game. Give me some BP. I couldn't give a damn about their so-called rank system. They have no clue how to design a decent or fair system. Three years plus has shown that.

THeir servers are indeed borked for a lot of people.
@Attackfrog Hey, I love in the U.S. as well. Even got four kids by doing so. 😂🤣😁

None of the above. For me, it's BP. If I earn over a certain amount, usually a goal I set for myself, then I won. Otherwise, I lost.
-
I'm a scrub survivor, and that guy was a scrub even compared to me. Jesus H. Christ learn what Holding the Game Hostage entails.

Because most normal people feel insulted when they are told how to do something they didn't ask to be told how to do.
How to drive, how to mow, how cook, are all things no one likes being told how to do.
Sometimes we need to be told better but it doesn't change our nature. It's natural to feel slighted.
@Theoretical_Heart Not only that, but it also comes down to: Who the hell is this person to tell me how I should be doing something?
Most people will accept advice and tips from an expert in the given field or activity. But, and especially in video games where it's an unknown, faceless player behind an avatar and screenname, the initial reaction is: Who is this person to offer unsolicited advice? Are they a pro? An expert?
The person giving the advice might have just had a great game and made some great plays, but who's to say that's a normal game for them and wasn't just an outlier where the stars aligned for them?
It's like when people throw out advice and tips on the forums that weren't asked for, and then tout their 1k or 2k hours in DbD. So what? I'd imagine many Red Ranked players have those hours, and yet people complain constantly that Red Ranks have too many potato players. Hours plays don't necessarily make them good, and I'd rather take advice from someone I have seen is consistently good at the game.
-
I'm not going to bother with the Archives nor the Rift. I'm going to continue to play normally. If I just happen to complete a challenge or two along the way and get a few extra Bloodpoints, so be it.
I logged into the PTB and checked out all the rewards. None of the skins are anything I find worth grinding for, and I absolutely do not give a damn about charms. To me, personally, they're about as attractive a reward as sprays in most other games.
-
@TheShape78 Thing was, at that point in my life my father was still working in Special Effects, so I knew it was fake. Still scared me, though. 😂
-
@SpaceCoconut Thanks for posting the actual math. My first blush impression of the Rift wasn't far off the mark, though.
Already decided my money is better spent elsewhere than on the Rift. Matter of fact, I already decided to just play DbD normally and ignore Challenges completely. My only concern is: How will many others grinding out the challenges and seeking specific goals, even if it means throwing a match to achieve them, affect my play enjoyment?
I've already seen Streamers basically throw matches by not doing gens or totems just to grind out other challenges.
I've seen these things happen in other games with Battlepasses and challenges, as well, where just trying to play the game normally became a pain in the ass. Which, unfortunately, led to me uninstalling those games and finally moving on.

Well you said they both leave a bad taste in your mouth because of psychological manipulation. I disagree the the rift does that as it is simply a new system that allows players to earn more cosmetics for a much cheaper price than what we currently have with the store.
@PrincessPoop That describes pretty much every battlepass out there. BHVR didn't do anything unique with it. Many other battlepasses even have Challenges. Hell, even their "earn the 1k auric cells back," is the same thing you can do in both Paladins and Apex Legends with the currency form price per BP if you play it and grind it enough in that timeframe.
BHVR basically copied the same models already used elsewhere.
Which still doesn't change Pulsar's nor my stance on them.
-
@Pulsar I never accused you of having taste.
I'm just kidding! I've actually never played Battlefront 2. No reason involving the fiasco around it, Disney just managed to destroy 30+ years of Star Wars fandom within me in record time.
Although I stopped playing months ago, I enjoyed Apex Legends. And EA's stink is all over that business model.
-
@Pulsar Well, I do mean a little offense to BHVR. Battlepasses are a norm in F2P games like Paladins, Fortnite, Realm Royale, et cetera.
But in a game that already has an MSRP buy-in cost, plus quarterly DLCs, plus a robust cosmetics shop where the average price is $10 per skin, then dropping a Battlepass into the game stinks to high-heaven of a wanna-be EA business model.
-
@Pulsar Same. I don't buy lootboxes nor battlepasses. I didn't buy lootboxes in Overwatch and didn't buy battlepasses in Paladins.
Folks can post all the videos they want, it isn't going to change my mind.
-
Myers. I bought the game due to Myers. I saw the original Halloween in theaters with my parents when I was around 5 years old, and it started my life-long fandom of the Slasher genre.
-
@Theoretical_Heart Yeah, I'd noticed that early on seeing the challenges via various Streamers. And as a very average and casual DbD player, it showed me that purchasing the Rift is an absolute no-go for me.
-
@UlvenDagoth Honestly, there are two reasons why I will be very unlikely to buy the Rift in the end.
1) I play Survivor with my 9-year-old in a duo SWF on the odd occasions he wants to play. That means that under the recent SWF matchmaking changes, I am unwilling to play Solo survivor and increase my rank along with it. The more I play survivor, the more inevitable that becomes. And getting good enough to hit the green, or even purple, ranks would mean playing with him is impossible. Those Killers would absolutely massacre him.
Playing with him is important to me, which is why I am usually a Killer Main. It doesn't affect us playing together as Survivors no matter how good I eventually get at Killer.
So that means that any Survivor Challenges are out the window for me doing them. And from what I saw via streams today, there are a lot of Survivor Challenges.
2) My killer queues are still averaging 10 minutes per lobby. That means less matches per hour on my already limited play time. So, that means a slow progression for any Killer related Challenges.
Which means that moving forward, there is now an entire segment of the game that my preferred play style for Survivor, and my idiotic Killer queues, are going to hinder me from experiencing. That is no fault of BHVR's mind you, and a personal choice on my part (well, in the Survivor case, not the Killer queues). I'm probably just going to move on from DbD before the mid-chapter patch. The kid and I have other games we play together, such as Paladins, and they have a new battlepass coming out within the next three weeks. Plus, I still have Overwatch and Realm Royale, too.
