  • For me the biggest pain in the ass is not being able to see the hooks auras that are in range on indoor maps. I just played in Lery's and I just couldn't hook two Boil Over users. They weren't even playing agressively, I just couldnt find hooks that I could actually reach. No auras plus huge drift is bad enough even without the drop adding wiggle.

It's really frustrating and I really hope they adjust this perk tomorrow, although I doubt they will as they usually only fix bugs.

  • If you are running Boil Over, I'm already AFK and tabbed out. Enjoy your victory against a killer that is ordering his Crispy Pancakes.

How would you address the tentacle?

Make it a large stocking with a bar of soap in it.

Admittedly this would not technically be Resident Evii canon.

  • I hope Pig mains don't see this post. You are eating one of her friends.

  • If there was an offline mode, we'd all be complaining that the AI was trash and then the devs would have to waste a lot of time making the AI work better when there are serious problems that need to be prioritised. Remember, they only have 850 employees.

  • I did it once! I don't know how I did it, but I did it!

    It doesn't work now though.

This is more important to me than fixing Boil Over.

I didn’t think you were new to DbD? Killers have plenty of options: snuffing totems, slugging if unable to hook, anti-wiggle and healing perks. And that’s just scratching the surface.

I actually tried snuffing the totem. You'll never believe what happened! Mikaela ony went straight back to the totem and re-booned it!

I then tried slugging! You'll never beleive what happened! They used a combination of perks and/or comms to get the survivors back up again.

I also tried anti-wiggle and anti-healing perks and you know what? I didn't have any perks for my own enjoyment.

  • I like how it is now. If you want to "grade up" or score lots of points, play for hooks. But for matchmaking purposes, it needs to be based on kills. You haven't "won" if 4 survivors escaped. Facecamping needs something a bit harsher as discouragement though, but for gameplay reasons not MMR.

  • @Mooks said:

Eh. It’s not like they need to nerf anything that they find personally unfair/too strong to counter. Otherwise I guess you could let them verse a strong Clown or Legion player and convince them those killers are op and need a nerf?

The difference is that when people are complaining so much about something, there could be something in what they say. There isn't a particularly large nerf Clown or Legion following. At least to my knowledge.

    @fulltonon said:

If they do, that'll be instanerf for it.

Did ya remember when they nerfed flashlight? yes, BHVRs been like that.

To be honest, that actually worked. Devs that care about the game shouldn't be too fussed about something like this happening to them, it might be a bit embarrassing at the time but most of us have been on the receiving end of games like this. If it makes the game better, its worth it.

    @dugman said:

What convinces them to nerf things is internal stats, they don’t go by just anecdotal posts. They’re probably monitoring both how popular a perk is, escape rates with and without the perk, and what other perks opposing sides use and escape rates with various combinations. So for Boil Over they’d look at how often survivors escape when someone has Boil Over, how often when nobody has it, how often when survivors have Boil Over and the killer has Iron Grasp, and how often when the killer doesn't have Iron Grasp. If those number are out of whack then they’ll nerf it.

That’s why they nerf add-ons which get confused posts saying “nobody asked for this to be nerfed”. Well also nobody actually tracks game stats with and without various add-ons and load out combos aside from the devs themselves so it’s possible for particular add-ons to be somewhat too good but not draw a lot of attention by not getting into the meta or being used by streamers.

If the stats are not really showing what people are complaining about, then actually seeing it might make the difference. It wouldn't even need to specifically be someone on the coding team, but it needs to be someone who could represent the devs AND who can play at at least a reasonably high level.

  • I've been fortunate never to have faced "locker blind teams" but having seen really good killer mains completely unable to deal with locker them, does suggest that there isn't a reasonable counter.

Perks should never be needed to counter what appears to be exploitable design flaws.

  • I haven't received my shards either.

  • The majority of characters are either American, have American descent or for no reason at all, lived in America. BHVR isn't even in America. Some kind of jealously of their neighbours maybe?

  • @Junylar said:

It seems they are actively trying to do everything to antagonize the community. At first they remove the masks with no adequate reason. Then they decide to compensate with 6k shards for 4 masks (look in the store how much a single head cosmetic is). THEN they are unable to do it instantly, and tell you to wait 24 hours, as some kind of real life state bureaucracy, and THEN then fail to do that! Is the company getting dissolved and shutdown or what?

Yes, 7200 per face would have been appropriate. Although at this point, I would be satisfied with just the 6000 that Mrs JawsIsTheNextKiller got for playing once in her life and DCing 60 seconds into the game when she ran into a wall 4 years ago.

I mean....untilately its the killer that has the choice: drop down for a shortcut or walk to a hook. Given it may not be ideal on every map, but that is still the kilelrs choice. Personally i like it that the killer now can no longer just take shortcuts.

If someone runs to the top of the Thomson House, the killer does not have time to walk to the stairs, then down the stairs, then outside, then to a hook. The only options are:

    1. Slug them for 4 minutes, throwing both the game and my fun
    2. Keep chasing them up the stairs and downing them over and over again until all the gens are done. Also no fun.
    3. DC then come and cry on the forums.

    I chose option 3.

  • Just a friendly reminder that if you can't make it to the final Jigsaw box, make yourself useful and work on a gen.

  • @Rizzo said:

If that makes you feel better, I haven't received my shards either.

That said, the process couldn't be prepared before the removal of the masks, that's why they waited for the patch, I'm sure they will solve the issue for those who still haven't received their compensation.

That makes me feel better. Knowing that someone on the team can verify that this is a real problem gives me some confidence that we might still get our shards.

  • If the devs aren't going to killswitch Boil Over (which they should), they should at least killswitch every map that has even one spot that is out of range of a hook when using Boil Over.

Too much effort? Then revert Boil Over.

Do you have a BHVR account? I also had all masks unlocked and haven't received shards, but I recently connected my Steam and Epic accounts to a BHVR account so I wonder if that's why I haven't received anything

    No I haven't linked accounts.

  • @JimbusCrimbus said:

Interestingly enough, I still have not received my 6k shards. And I've probably got 1000 hours in Bubba alone.

On the Twitter post there are people that didn't even play him with a Splinter who got the shards, and there are others that unlocked all the masks that have (so far) got nothing.

  • I haven't got mine yet. I had all the masks unlocked. Maybe I am just one of the unlucky ones.

  • I've been watching too. I knew that they could target "streamers" but I didn't know that they could actually pick which one they wanted. So much for the hacking fixes in the update.

I know he isn't a Fog Whisperer any more, but as one of the most popular streamers, massively publicizing the game, I would hope he would have a devs hotline to get these hackers banned. Banning them for him also bans them for the rest of us too.

I really like the Play Station button prompts now when using the PS controller with Steam DS4 controller support enabled! Such a nice addition. I play survivor on PS4 or Xone controller and it's nice to see the PS button prompts too, well done.

This always bothered me. How was I supposed to press the A button when my controller doesn't have an A button? This was listed as a bug fix so maybe it was always supposed to be like this and nobody realised for the last 5 years.

Yes, PC, I will be happy to now press the Cross button as I can see one here.

  • I'd prefer the M1 toggle to be gens only, and to not automatically cancel for no apparently reason but it's a good change and I am really pleased at is optional.

And yes the treatment of the devs after the stream has been disgusting.

  • But not with fruit on it. Who on earth has fruit as a dessert? It's an abomination.

  • I was worried that the voice-lines would become annoying. I'm so pleased that not only did they add more variation of voice lines, but they also don't activate every time.

  • Knowing that these cheats exist makes me paranoid... Are they actually faster or are they just looping really well and am I imagining it?

  • @Warcrafter4 said:

Maps were never designed around falls potentially giving survivors wiggle progress and the developers didn't update them with that in mind.

This was going to blow up one way or another as the 25% wiggle progress from falls is something you're forced to work around while designing/updating on every map.

Reminds me of old Balanced Landing. The existance of a perk that could exploit map design meant they had to give it back the fall stagger. New Boil Over does the same thing, although this is worse because it's more of a SWF bully perk now.

This is what the kill-switch is for. Let's use it devs. And while you have Notepad++ open, maybe killswitch CoH and Dead Hard too.

  • @KateMain86 said:

Survivors start wiggling off a little more often than usual using a perk that I literally never saw anyone use and suddenly its like the end of days for killer mains. Maybe survivors wiggling off should happen more often because for the longest time killer mains sure haven't had much trouble hooking survivors before. The hooks spawn everywhere... its so bad the wiggling mechanic felt like a waste of time because unless you had support from breakout and protection hits you probably weren't wiggling free. I guess no matter where a survivor goes down at the killer has to have a guarantee hook unless someone flashlights or pallet stuns the killer. The new boil over actually gives some substance to the perk and the idea of wiggling off now. Its not as bad as people think it is either. I used it all day and only wiggled free one time from a killer that was new to the game. The perk is fine.

If you only managed a single wiggle out you are not exploiting the strength of the perk. Are you remembering to play offerings such as RPD? Are you remembering to get your team-mates to run supporting perks such as Breakout? Are you remembering to run to safe areas of maps then waiting to be downed?

i thought that if i play a killer i haven't played before the mmr has a starting point to make matches a little easier to learn their power

The starting point is based on your highest killer. Just a bit lower.

  • I find it quite shocking that people want others banned from a computer game just for pointing at a locker.

I'd be horrified if someone got banned for doing this one time to one survivor.

  • @th3syst3m said:

Nah, game was better without it. If you don't like reading about it maybe visit another forum.

Although I completely disagree with you, that was funny! 😂

  • We all rate our killer games by how many kills we get. We are mostly disappointed when we kill nobody after 8 hooks and still pleased if we kill everyone with only 4. If I got 8 hooks and no kills then my strategy was wrong. It wasn't a win and the teabagging survivors at the exit gate clearly agree with me.

This system is designed to aim for fair matchmaking, nothing more; Preventing God tier SWF survivors being matched with a killer that just bought the game. It doesn't matter that in one match you ran the killer for 5 gens and then died, or that in another Bubba killed everyone by facecamping. Good players "win" more games than bad players.

We also now know that unfair matchmaking is caused by attempts to make quick lobbys, not by the MMR itself.

  • One gives everyone infinite free heals throughout the match and the other makes everyone leave without attempting to rescue me.

    I really dislike both perks.

  • SBMM is here to stay so I don't think avoiding or boycotting an interesting event because of it will achieve anything. Hopefully the event will not rely on "sweaty" play.

  • 850 employees and didn't they say the balance team consisted of 2 people?

TWO people, balancing asymmetrical horror themed action game, Dead By Daylight.

And we complain it isn't balanced.

  • If you have a high MMR Huntress and haven't played Nurse you will have a high MMR Nurse.

The only way to get low MMR on other killers is to lose with them.

  • I'm so glad they are back to doing events again. I'm really looking forward to it.

  • I'm surprised this did not come up in the dev Q&A stream. Are people not too bothered about it?

  • There is a lot of variety to playing killer and making interesting builds is far more enjoyable than picking the same perks on everyone.

Map offerings: Only Haddonfield really bothers me. Hopefully a rework might be imminent?

Flashlights: Lightborn or Franklin's if there is more than one flashlight. Facing walls if there is only one. Flashlight users don't genrush.

Stretched Res: Well I don't know how often I face stretched res but probably avoid playing Ghostface.

  • @CaulDrohn said:

OK, so if we all would disable Crossplay for Matchmaking, the EPIC hackers would have to play with their own, right?

    You are right.

Another thing to consider is that if you play killer, when cross-play is off, your chances of having 4-person SWFs appears to be much higher. Personally I'd rather take my chances against possible hackers but I don't encounter many.

  • In Swish's first DBD Tournament, the commentators were taking about how in tournaments the Twins were so powerful compared to most of the killer roster, that the survivors pretty much had to play perfectly to beat them, and as the tournament played out this seemed quite accurate!

The Twins were also disallowed from being chosen until the final stages for this reason (as was Nurse and I think so was pre-nerf Spirit).

  • Yes Epic have the crossplay icon if you are on Steam. The first time someone messaged me with a crossplay icon, I asked them if they were on Steam and they said they got the game free with Epic.

  • Am I the only one that leaves them until last? In my experience they tend to not only be the best loopers in the average lobby, they also seem to focus less on gens.

  • @Pukenplag said:

JRM is an example of a very bad player, right? He basically never escapes, therefore the fact that he can be chased for like 3 minutes isn't an indication of skill.

Always a good idea to keep your MMR low if you create juking videos.

Imagine that we are in charge of rating soccer teams. Do you determine each teams ranking by the number of goals scored or their win to loss ratio? You could certainly argue that a team that won in overtime with a single goal might not be as skilled as another team that scored 4 goals but their opponent scored 6 goals. But I think ultimately we have to judge success based off of the real win condition. A killers win condition is to kill survivors and a survivors win condition is whether or not they survive. And like they said in the stream, if you create a scenerio in which both sides can win then you end up with MMR bloat.

Thats a much better analogy the the Hockey shots on target one. If you got 8 hooks and zero kills, you lost and you need to reconsider your strategy.

  • The Qs are in half an hour. The As will probably be much much longer.

  • @GuyFawx said:

Better yet a training course would be sweet for the different activities like some other games have

Yes that's a good idea. I know there is the tutorial but you can't actually practice skills on that.

  • Inifinite speed has been a bug in the past and the teleporting thing sometimes just happens even in games were nobody appears to be cheating so you don't have to worry.

However, if you are in a game where you suspect someone is cheating, I'm sure nobody would judge you too harshly if you DCd.

  • I like the idea, but really only CoH is a big problem, despite my inability to chase through Shadowstep. I'm crossing my fingers for them making CoH heal at Self-Care speeds.
