  • Dead Hard is the WORST perk in the game. Its "now working as intended" variant is broken, too powerful and confusing for new players with hit validation benefitting the worst ping instead of who acted first. Please bring back exhausted on the floor - all is forgiven.

I am of course being pedantic and arguing Best as opposed Strongest. For me, Dead Hard is the strongest perk.

The BEST perk is Windows of Opportunity (for me). I can happily play survivor without exhaustion perks but I am a complete potato without WoO.

Hi guys, I do a games design course at college and we have the chance to take a game and do our own stuff to it. I chose Dead by Daylight and I chose to do level design. I have this form I need filled out so if you guys could fill it out then that would be great. serious feedback would be appreciated. 😀

    Many Thanks.

As part of your work do you also have to write about what makes a good and balanced map? If so, you should send it to the devs.

  • The removal of the dumb struggle mechanic was a huge benefit to those that could not rapidly press Space, X or A.

Windows of Opportunity and Zanshin Tactics is great for autistic people with executive function disabilities (that prevent them from recognising structures from different angles).

Colour Blind mode is there for those that cannot tell certain colours apart.

So considerations are being made, they clearly DO want disabled players playing.

  • Yes, but negative blood points. You can try to antognise the killer but at the detriment to your own score.

  • It's all part of the mind games my friend! To get under your skin before game even starts.

  • Both sides complain about the aspects they don't find fun. That's part of what the forums are for, to voice our opinion about the game. If the game isn't fun, subjective as that may be, players will leave and play VHS instead (until they realise that is even less fun).

  • SBMM isn't the problem, balance is. It's disappointing that such a high profile streamer is campaigning for something that just gives him easier games rather than tackling the root cause of the problem that would help the actual game.

I do play killer. That’s why I’m asking. I haven’t had it happen yet so I was curious if certain conditions seem to make it happen or if it’s random.

When you slug someone and know where they are, usually you will just go and pick them up and might not realise they are not making any sound. If you slug someone and don't know where they crawled off to, you might not realise that they aren't making any sound. Next time you pick up a slug, have a listen before you pick them up.

  • I got this by dressing as a default baby Claudette and getting the last gen to 99%. Then I did what Claudettes do best and hid until the last survivor got caught then watched her die before popping the gen. I ran to the door and prepped it to just the point before the first light went on then continued once the heart beat disappeared. You have to be ready for the killer to come back. If he does the best strategy is to drop your item and crouch walk towards them and hope you get mercy.

Same strategy worked for the achievement on PS4, PS5 and PC. Once I managed to open the door before the killer returned, the other two times the killer let me go.

  • No it's because his Internet IS great. Although we were told it would favour the better connection, in practice hit validation favours the worse connection.

I play only on console. I really want to make a smooth and fun experience in the game. Any suggestions?

Upgrading to an SSD reportedly helps a lot. I went back to my PS4 to test with a couple of games after installing an SSD and the frame drops were not as obvious as I remember. However, since I hadn't played on PS4 for a long time, patches might be the reason for the improvement.

Ah, nice. Another 'us vs. them'. I knew I was reading the forum too much today.

Haha You really have been reading the forums too much! I meant that killer mains get full killers, with their own abilities that are very different from eachother. Survivors only get skins so without new perks there is not a huge reason for them to buy DLC.

  • It would make it much easier to balance things. They need to sell DLC to survivor mains though.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/302095/general-tip-for-killer-players-not-enjoying-mmr

The MMR isn´t the issue. The terrible balancing IS the issue.

Now if you recommend killers to simply "enjoy" losing so often until they get matched with newbie survivors, where the matches are finally fun. Then you ruin the fun for both sides. For the new survivors and the old killers.

If you don´t enjoy playing killer anymore, then just switch to survivor.

This is so true. It is frustrating seeing so many people complaining about the MMR when the MMR is doing its job. Although many disagree with how it calculates a win, the result is that if you do well over the course of several matches, you face better players. That is exactly what it needs to be. The imbalance however, is really clear now that MMR has settled to match people appropriately.

How many points should Survivors lose for every second they don't leave through the Exit Gates after they've been opened?

Now THIS would have made a good topic for discussion. I'd like to see a little -100 above the heads of each survivor every time they teabag too, so that I could watch them teabag all their bloodpoints away!

Believe it or not but there's a mute button just imagine lacking enough common sense to realize that. But just imagine a game not having comm features because you're antisocial and you don't know how to talk to people

Is that what you tell people as you slurp your soda then burp down the mic?

As a killer main I like to start up a new game my killer que time is 8sec so fast no joke i wait in the lobby with the other players watch the timer reach 10sec then i leave i do this 3 time before starting a new game lol

I think this would make a lot of sense if they all load in together. This suggests they were an SWF or have been lobby dodged before. Either way you will have gotten their hopes up of finally getting a game only to have them dashed at the last second, just as they all tried to switch to Nea-wielding flashlights.

  • Perhaps @Simfeliz doesn't want to listen to 12 year olds screaming and munching potato chips into their mics. Seems quite reasonable to me.

  • @TheMadCat said:

Boons would be unusable. I also do think people only have issues with Circle of Healing, not the other Boons. Why nerfing them all for one?

People don't have a problem with the other Boons because they are not in almost every game. So it wouldn't really matter if they got nerfed in the process. They will just become another of the many perks people don't ever use. It does leave the option of giving a separate buff to the other Boon perks though if the killer could destroy totems.

But I'd be happy seeing ANY broken perk being nerfed to the point of being trash anyway. Image a world with no Dead Hard or Undying Ruin. It would be dreamland!

  • @Marc_go_solo said:

I enjoy playing him, and my thoughts are that it's not necessarily the nerf itself that was the issue, but moreover the fact he didn't even need to be nerfed in the first place. By the devs words themselves, they said he was exactly where they wanted him to be, whilst in the same patch note they altered him.

This still remains one of my top 2 illogical and astounding alterations within the game. The change restricted some of the mindgaming a Hillbilly could do that was also extremely counterable. Even with a great Hillbilly player, it was still punishable if they screwed up, and it was very possible, even at that level. I'm more empathic than most towards BHVR than a lot on this forum, but even I cannot excuse the dumbness of that decision.

He still is a good killer, but all the change did was reduce the number of killers willing to be played at the then-red ranks.

But hey, we got new music, so that was good right? .. Right?

Saying he was roughtly were they wanted him was simply to acknowledge the ludicrous notion that people used to spout that he was the most balanced killer in the game. You know the killer who had complete map control, an instadown, really good addons, decent default perks and barely any kind of cooldown. That apparently was balanced. How could new killers compete without having the same?

The cooldown brought him into line with other killers. They did over-nerf his addons though.

  • The killer rulebook says it isn't the killers fault if people DC so the killer should not feel bad about taking the kill.

  • You mean it isn't short for Beaver Hotline Virtual Reality?

  • And we still get people requesting a Haddonfield rework. You think they are going to make it better for killers do you killer mains? I doubt that very much.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/301821/stacked-meta-perks-are-insane

You deserve that for tunneling. Honestly, I feel you though. I play both sides. The tunneling and the meta perks bug me. I feel like they should be limited. Two a match, not four. Also, I feel that BT should be basekit. The tunneling has to stop as well. There has to be moderation. DH needs a nerf and DS is fine where it is.

Often, at the end game your only play is to "tunnel" the one person who is injured unless you have some insta-down ability. The only other alternative is to hit someone uninjured and then everyone just leaves.

I would argue that this isn't even what tunnelling means. Tunnelling is a problem when you do it at the start of the game to make it a 3 vs 1. At the end game it is quite reasonable for the killer to try to get a kill. Nobody should ever feel bad about going straight after the unhooked person when all the gens are finished.

Thanks for the reply guys i get it somewhat. My final question for anyone.

I tested something out for the sake of this thread and played 1 killer out of the 10 or 11 i play for 5 games about an hour or two ago. What i presumed is my highest MMR killer, I once again played Chaotic gens Doctor (Hook: Gift of Pain/Overcharage/Eruption/Oppression) and these were the results

    4K

    4k

1K (I knew i shouldnt have given up my 3 gen for that chase lol)

    4K

    4K

So what does that mean? This is not counting all the other 4k's i've been getting with him (Doctor mostly and randomly others if i 4K)

My MMR seems to be high or the highest with Doctor right?

***Someone actually told me that 4king means im playing at low MMR so please dont tell me that again lol

The killers I do well with are those that are at the lower end of my MMR range. I 4K in these games not because I am good with the killer, but because the survivors are not so good. The killers I am better at I do badly with because I get better opponents.

    MMR messes with my head!

That's just straight up not what designers do. That's the game artists' job, and those two roles are not interchangeable.

Wow, designers don't give out bloodpoints or streamers. Who knew that? Well you put me in my place.

  • I'd rather have a fun end-game and give the killer the 4K than just have a three of us escape. More fun for me, more points for the killer.

I don't think you should feel obliged to do the same yourself though.

  • A Santa Jane cosmetic would have been better than both.

  • @CheerfulSpirit said:

A while back I had a game where I was playing as the Oni, and one survivor in particular was really difficult to hit. Constantly changing direction erratically, literally running circles around me, I couldn't land a demon strike on them. I know they weren't using Dead Hard because they didn't charge away.

A lot of the time when I attempt something like this, I get hit. So I can't help but wonder how do some people get so good at dodging attacks? Maybe I just have bad aim some days, but I've had this sort of thing happen a few games now. How do they do it?

If you try these jukes you SHOULD get hit. If you are the killer and are missing swings against good jukers you might be just being a little impatient. When you are against a juker, wait for them to do their juke and THEN hit them.

If you watch a good survivor streamer playing against a really good killers these tricks usually fail.

  • The game was much worse than in the past but now it is going back the other way.

The devs should have known their game well enough to know that CoH would be a huge problem and Dead Hard was fairer when there was a risk of being exhausted on the floor.

MMR isn't the problem. Balance is the problem - it just became more obvious at high MMR. A significant nerf to DH and CoH would be easy to implement and make the game feel fairer.

  • That's not a meme build that's a very good build! Survivors running Detectives Hunch to bless totems is a concern though due to how oppressive Circle of Cheating is.

  • You are right.

Its a shame that designers are being paid to create charms that nobody will ever equip. Most of us won't even look at them. Bloodpoints, Bloody Party Streamers, Iridescent shards or even an Auric Cell would be much more appreciated.

  • Feels a bit strange to play on Christmas Eve and the festive theme isn't there anymore.

There will be people complaining about EVERY event, but having absolutely nothing seasonal last year was highly disappointing. I hope the devs take the positivity there has been and do another one next year. I know most of us got the presents in the first couple of days but it made a refreshing change from the tomes.

  • I'd like to see Dead Hard nerfed into a perk that nobody will use. I'd be happy to see NoEd get the same treatment to compensate. The game would be better without each side's most complained about perks.

This would mean Spint Burst on every survivor though - and it could be a case of "be careful what you wish for"

Wow guys, ty for remembering my thread.

Yeah, Michi and I are still working on it, but had to put it on hold because I had a crazy exam I had to write. Took months to get it done right but we are back to work.

    Keep an eye out!

Also to answer the main question: yes it was before mmr. Since mmr I've lost a few times, it's nuts out there!

Looking forward to it. Would love to see some of your tougher games though!

  • Playing killer is the most fun but stressful. Playing SWF is like going into Options, switching the difficulty to Very Easy and then swtiching all the cheats on. Solo is the best experience - I'm probably going to die, but I might not.

  • I've only ever played against her once and I've only played as her around 5 times and not using her effectively, just using her chickens to scare people off loops. I can see why people might not enjoy playing her as she takes some time getting used to.

  • Surely someone who doesn't own the Stranger Things DLC should never go against anyoneone called "The Demogorgon". They should instead face something like "The Snarling Open-Faced Flower Monster".

  • She looks like she has had a rough couple of games. I know how she feels!

  • I've always said the best killers should verse the best survivors, but it does underline the difference in power between the two groups. So many ideas have been suggested for fixing this, hopefully killer mains leaving the role will push the devs into considering some of them.

  • Zombies are supposed to be dumb. They are zombies. Getting stuck in the scenery is part of their charm.

  • My very first game as the Artist, I spent most of the game just trying to figure out how to use my chicken launcher. It can't be much fun for the survivors when I am just stood there like a fool figuring out how to use my power.

To be honest the tutorial bots are fine, I know there will be people that complain that they are not good enough but just for the purposes of testing things out, opening this out to use with any killer would be a welcome addition, even if the bots aren't programmed to deal with each one.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/300679/300-solo-match-results

55% sounds like a perfectly good spot for an average solo survivor escape rate over a large number of matches. This is at least some indication that despite gripes the matchmaking is doing something reasonable to make your matches moderately close, or at least that you swivel between winning and losing with relatively equal frequency,

Also just for reference the devs indicated a while back that being in a swf increases escape rates by roughly 3% per person beyond yourself (i.e. 2-person is about 3% boost, 3-person 6%, 4-person around 10% if I remember the numbers right). So if that holds you’d probably be around 58-65% escape rate depending on the swf size.

I'm not convinced those stats can be taken at face value. I know when I am in a two-person SWF I am so much more efficient with even basic knowlesge of what else is going on in the game.

If those stats are real then it basically says SWF only gives you a small advantage, wheras the generally consensus is that SWF OP plz nerf.

Jesus Christ you people drive me nuts, stop fighting about stupid ######### and focus on the matter at hand. WE HAVE A SOLUTION: TALLER LOOP WALLS!!! This is the last time I'm saying it.

Putting the code in that locks the aspect ratio to 16:9 will only take someone an afternoon to complete. Recreating all the all the walls will take months.

  • @DrKetchup said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2703411#Comment_2703411

Because then you would have people that actually use weird-ass screens and they would be playing with a disadvantage. Try to play on an Ultrawide screen in native rez and you will see my point. That's why they should just make the damn loops taller, it would fix everything and no one would be complaining anymore.

Ultra-Wide setups could simply have a centred 16:9 picture with black borders on either side. Or the sides could be decorated with pictures of cats or some flowers.

So I was curious what my escape rate was so starting tracking it since October.

    Escape rate. 55.6666666667%

    Death Rate. 44.3333333333%

My survival rate is ever so slowly dropping 😢😢😢 The first half of 200-300 saw it plummet down. The 2nd half went extremely well.

Most popular killer and kill rates.

Blight 34 (times appeared) 19 escapes 15 deaths.

    Nemesis 26 13 escapes 13 deaths

    Nurse 26 12 escapes 14 deaths

    Huntress 23 13 escapes 10 deaths

    Wraith 19 12 escapes 7 deaths

    Leatherface 17 12 escapes 5 deaths

    Myers 16 4 escapes 12 deaths

    Trickster 13 7 escapes 6 deaths

    Pinhead 11 8 escapes 3 deaths

    Spirit 11 3 escapes 8 deaths

    Hillbilly 11 9 escapes 2 deaths

    Artist 11 6 escapes 5 deaths

    Legion 9 6 escapes 3 deaths

    Plague 9 6 escapes 3 deaths

    Trapper 8 5 escapes 3 deaths

    Oni 8 4 escapes 4 deaths

    Doctor 8 6 escapes 2 deaths

    Pig 8 4 escapes 4 deaths

    Hag 7 2 escapes 5 deaths

    Deathslinger 6 5 escapes 1 death

    Freddy 4 3 escapes 1 death

    Demo 4 2 escapes 2 deaths

    Twins 4 3 escapes 1 death

    Ghostface 4. 2 escapes 2 deaths.

Pyramid Head 2 Died both times

Clown 1....Jesus Clown one time in 300 matches and I survived

    NOTES

I expect I made some mistakes in some places meaning there would be some off by maybe 1 number. I somehow have Myers appearing in match 247 despite the death not impacting the overall tally. Either way.

Myers. Saw a massive drop in popularity. Was one of the most popular and he only appeared 1 time in 100 matches.

Blight and Nemesis retain their lead as the most popular killer. Nurse is slowly creeping up though and tied for 2nd.

Spirit. Very odd to me. I did have a bunch of terrible matches against her early on. I wouldn't ever guess my performance is so bad against her. She is fairly easy to run now.

Hillbilly. Was very surprised to see how often I escape against him considering how insanely good some of them are.

Doctor only showed up twice and both resulted in death. I was annoyed with this because I wanted a 8-0 streak on him and thats exactly what should've happened. Both matches contained morons DCing when we were winning. One match in particular we managed to get all 5 gens done with only 3 people. I was downed at the exit gate switch where ONE second longer I would've been able to get out.

Leatherface. IDK why so many ppl just despise him. If you make him work for the saw he usually just comes apart.

This all just lets me know something though. If I actually wanted to be in an organized SWF team I see absolutely no reason my escape rate shouldnt be decently above 70% Remember this is ALL solo matches.....

How do your team-mates do? I pretty much lose all my survivor matches but usually the killer 4Ks or I get 1-hooked at the end.

  • A couple of years ago the vast majority of the playerbase was PS4. I don't know what the situation is now though as PC owners and XBox owners have all been offered it free now.

You could just turn off crossplay completely though, although in my experience, a lobby full of Playstation players pretty much guarantees an SWF.

  • They could also increase the time it takes to reboon a snuffed totem, encouraging survivors to look for different ones.

1 … 10 11 12 13 14 … 61
