  • I agree with dropping slowdown perks. Using them may get you more wins, but at the cost of suggesting to the devs that the balance is ok.

    Who wants to go against sweaty 4-person meta-equipped flashlight-clicking teabagging SWFs every game anyway?

  • @lav3 said:

    I don't get why people are so edgy and conservative for expected "balance" problem when high MMR is the most unbalanced system for killers in this game. And saying "Just play for fun." and "You're just sweaty and not enjoying the game" is realliy out of topic.

    Honestly I would discard this MMR first.

    A working MMR should separate the new/bad players from the best players. This part of the MMR is "mostly" working and I hope the devs contine to refine it. The problem is that at high MMR, organised survivors against most killers just win. They don't have to play really well, they can afford to make mistakes and it won't affect the outcome.

    I hope the devs are monitoring the performance of the game at the top level and can come up with some balance changes that will address this. They could do it with some adjustments to the survivor meta perks, adjustments to gen regression or even start buffing solos to lessen the SWF advantage to make the balancing easier.

    If the better killers players stop playing killer, that means that less skilled players then have to face these survivors. Then they will quit too.

  • I really like the new system. In the old system I could play for two/three weeks fine until my rank went up to a point when I would lose every match. Now I can play throughout the month and have a reasonable chance of getting a balanced match.

    However, I don't think survivors should be escaping 50% of all matches and since I rarely escape as survivor, I am now teamed with the default Dwights and the default Megs.

    As killer it seems to be working really well, but if I get zero kills and maybe only one or two hooks, the MMR really needs to take a bit hit on my MMR and/or give the survivors a big boost to theirs to lessen the chances of this matchmaking anomoly happen to someone else.

  • I think it would be more fun to have dailies that aimed for killers you neglect.

    Not Huntress though, don't make me play console Huntress!

  • Today's Friday which should be good, but I have to work 16 consecutive days in a row. Only 14 more days until the "weekend" for me though, so looking forward to that.

  • The sounds. This map had the most unique atmospheric sounds.

    Please devs, don't delete it. Put it in a box somewhere because you never know there might be an opportunity in the future to bring it back.

    I bet he devs will still be able to play it in the office even if we can't. Along with old Freddy, old Billy and probably Jason Vorhees, Chucky and Jaws which I wouldn't be surprised if they made but hadn't released due to licensing.

  • After racking by brains, I think this is everyone I have been in an SWF with (sorry if I missed anyone!):

    @Vietfox

    @Grootdude

    @Mushwin

    @PhantomMask20763

    @andyollolloll

    @Cornpopers_Evan

    @Unicorn

    @KiraElijah

    @idek120 (I think)

    @mightymat17 (I think)

    I don't do comms though so I didn't speak to any of them.

    Killer main btw.

  • For me, the most exciting part of new chapters was always the maps. It's such a shame that maps are low priority now. I really wonder what the map design team do when there isn't a new map for a couple of chapters in a row.

  • You know all these legendary Huntress streamers? They put a dot in the cente of their screen. Some may call that cheating and just because it isn't bannable, it doesn't automatically mean it isn't cheating.

    But you can't really do that playing on console when you play on the 55" family TV. This isn't an FPS game, we should be able to do our Huntress dailies without ruining our TVs!

    It's not random, you can reliably get what you want if you understand its logic.

    Know you can buy 4 nodes before the Entity appears, unless you get a perk. To help get your second perk, buy the 2 nodes that lead to your first perk, then buy the 2 leading to a perk you don't want. When you buy your first perk, it's almost guaranteed the Entity will get the perk you're closer to get, which is the one you don't want. This gives you enough "time" to get the second perk you want.

    I've noticed something similar to this, once the Entity takes something I want and then, erm, the game crashes, I can reload and get the Entity to choose different things as long as I choose a different path. I think it tries to guess what you want.

  • I remember you were downvoted for wanting a cooldown on Hillbilly's chainsaw!

    Who's laughing now?

  • The devs explained this in a stream once: If there is already an established lobby, then the killer pulls out (probably after checking the survivors profiles), the team will be given priority matchmaking as they are already supposed to be in a game. The matchmaking system will not wait for a "more suitable" matchup.

    They explained this before MMR was implemented, but I suspect this has not changed.

  • You DCd to answer the door? How far away is your door?

  • Boons are a buff to Noed. I don't do bones if there is a Mikaela in the team. Then I die to Noed. Mikaela wasn't even running Boon perks.

    THEN WHY ARE YOU A MIKAELA?

  • I had a couple of games yesterday, both against the Pig, both left me to bleed out trying to get their 4Ks. That wasn't even the worst of it, the other survivor kept finding me and picking me up dragging the end-game out even longer. Most boring games ever.

    No Bill, please just leave me to die.

  • Over time, good killers will kill more and good survivors will escape more. Even if the MMR system is limited, most people should end up with reasonable matchmaking. It just might take some time.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/292517/to-everyone-who-likes-the-mmr-system-better-than-the-previous-emblem-system

    For me personally, the MMR system is indeed pretty stupid for survivors. But I LOVE it for killers!

    First, the MMR system doesn't force you into a particular style of play, as somebody else here already said.

    Second, and the reason I love MMR, is that IF YOU PLAY however you want to play, consistently, for example trying to 12 hook every game (or close to it) the MMR system will eventually put you against survivors you can play like that against.

    I despise using slowdown perks right now on killer. I mainly use perks that synergize well with the killer, for example, I will use on

    Huntress: BBQ, Lethal Pursuer, Iron Maiden and HEX: Blood Favor

    Because I think these perks are fun and work well with Huntress' kit.

    MMR will put me against survivors who I can do pretty well against with this build. Mainly because I don't care that much about how high I get in MMR, I just want to be at the spot I belong to.

    The MMR system is pretty much only a problem for those that wanna keep climbing, like most popular streamers... They eventually go against super efficient survivors, with all the second chances they can get, while the killers themselves are also using 4 slowdown perks themselves... I don't wanna be at that level, so I won't play that way, or use those perks. Simple as that...

    I think the way you play is the best way to enjoy the game. Whats the point of all these perks anyway if we just run the same meta perks.

    As for popular streamers, they don't like the system because they go against super sweaty hardcore SWFs all the time. That actually shows the system is working. If people who play this game for a living are up against people that just play casually on an evening and a weekend, those games are probably always going to be a walkover. Now they have to earn their 4Ks.

    To be honest, I think watching streamers is more enjoyable now because they don't win every game.

  • In the old system, new killer players would be facing red rank SWFs as soon as they hit green ranks, which would not take very long. This was competely unfair and would put a lot of people off.

    In the new system, good killers tend to get kills. Good players tend to survive. A lot of complaints are based on one match, "Hey I ran the killer around or 5 gens and then lost MMR because I was left on a hook". MMR is not based on one match, it's based on lots of matches. On average you will be surviving more than you die if you can run the killer for 5 gens.

    I have swapped between a few different Killers recently, but they're killers that I'm used to playing with. But since I rarely play killer to begin with, my rating should be fairly low, especially if it's on a Killer I've never touched before. But it doesn't seem to matter.

    Perfect example, my very first match with Pinhead resulted in one of the most sweatiest, toxic games that I've ever had. Constant teabagging, pointing, flashlight clicking, it was miserable. At the end of the match that resulted in just one hook, I got messages like "EZ killer", "git gud", etc. As you can imagine I decided to switch back to killers that I was used to playing, but it didn't get any better. Simply put, being thrown into the deep end to learn how to swim is an incredibly frustrating learning tool.

    A killer that has no MMR defaults to an MMR a little under your highest rated killer so playing Pinhead for the first time would give you a harsh matchup.

    Try this, I am confident it will work: Pick 1 killer and play 4 games - Don't sweat for the kills, just try to get as many hooks as you can. After these 4 games you should find that your sweat squads have turned into fair games.

  • The biggerst problem I have with Shadow Step is chasing in places like RPD. I'm following a survivor, they turn a corner and then they are simply gone. Did they carry on running? Quick and Quiet in a locker? Corner juke me? If I guess wrong, they are gone for good and the chase is over.

  • I recommend that you should either ignore the survivor and search a different area of the map to them or chase the survivor, but zone them round to the area of the map that either you already searched, or they already searched, that way you can down them without giving them a chance to get to the hatch.

    SBMM is such a joke. I made a previous post about this, but I rarely play killer as it is. Despite this I'm constantly being destroyed from survivors in SBMM (which highlights just how ridiculously bad the MMR is). And the sad truth is, whenever I look for help, all this community says is the typical "git gud", and "baby killer", which is so helpful. Playing as the killer has never felt more punishing and sweat inducing than in any game I've played in recent memory. Survivors should fear the killer, but all I keep encountering are well coordinated survivors body blocking, and getting the hell out of dodge when they know that I'm anywhere near thanks to SWF. SWF is so unbelievably broken in this game, and there is no perk the killer has that can equally counter that.

    How can I possibly learn to get better at a game when the most helpful advice is, "just grin and bear it"? I shouldn't have to induce hours upon hours of grinding before the game eventually gets fun. I realize that there's a learning curve to every game, but I'm just not having fun anymore. The power role is most certainly not the killer anymore, and is it any wonder why so many DBD streamers are looking forward to VHS?

    I'm going to make an assumption here. You are swapping killers.

    You should pick a killer and play a few games without swapping to another. It should only take a few games for your MMR to adjust for that killer.

    If you keep swapping killers you will just encounter loss, loss, loss, loss and you won't see a noticable change in your MMR.

  • The dead hard "fix" has made it more broken than it was before the fix.

    Here, have some common sense babies.

    He doesn't mention how hit validation punishes better internet connections. A survivors 100ms ping should not beat my 30ms ping.

  • @Jago said:

    It's working as intended now.

    Working as intended? So I see the hit, hear the hit and look down to pick up the survivor but they are not there. I look up and there they are, half way across the map, teabagging from the luxury of a pallet gym.

    If that is working as intended then I have to question their intentions.

  • In the extremely unlikely event that I can actually hit someone with the chain using a controller, they more often than not, easily break the chains and escape. I don't think he is worth the time investment to get skilled with him.

    Love to face him as survivor though.

  • It's a spider, but its cute, but its a spider.

    My brain can't handle this.

  • I like the idea of permanently smashing the bones. I'd like Noed users to still be able to activate any remaining totem even if it was a Boon though. Then killers would have to track how many bones they had crushed if they still want their Noed to pop.

  • The crossover only goes one way, as most crossovers do. So the real question is why crossover with a game about hooking survivors.

    Because it only seems one way, I suspect the For Honor devs came to Behavior and that we won't be getting the map, which is a great shame. The devs stated that there would only be a net gain of one map this year: RPD plus one new map, minus Hawkins. So I think the only remaining map will come with a full chapter.

  • I enjoy Jonathan's scream. Shame it was wasted on a character nobody uses.

    I stopped playing since half a year ago because all the bullshit killers have to face (Yes I’m killer main). I was totally sick of it.

    I just came here to see some updates.. holy they’re not good.. it seems like the game is now even more unfun for killers than before. I don’t have the slightest desire to play this game after seeing the updates.

    Never felt so good to leave the game i loved before in my life. It feels like a relieve for not stuck in playing this game, to be honest.

    PS: Just want to share my feelings here.. please don’t hurt me :). If anyone here happens to feel the same burden of playing killer, i advice you to take a break. It totally worths it (even if it feels bad for first or second week)

    So you are still thinking about the game I notice. So you aren't completely over it. Mayble you should have a little game. ONE game can't hurt you can it?

  • @Mooks said:

    Wait, the survivor addons get disabled as well? I thought it was only the killer addon..

    It is only the killers addon that gets disabled.

  • If you are offered Slippery Meat on every bloodweb, pick Slippery Meat.

    Unfortunately this means that on the very next bloodweb, you will be most likely be offered the new and improved Slippery Meat II, but this is just how the bloodweb works, I don't know if it is by design, but the bloodweb is not perfectly random.

    I want to share a video of me playing blight, i just started playing him and i got matched with a really toxic swf. I want to share this to show how broken the SBMM is. Am i allowed to do this, or do i have to blur their names?

    When you try new killers, their starting MMR will always be quite close to that of your highest rated killer. Hopefully they will tweak it soon so it starts a bit lower.

  • I think it will be someone from the USA. The Americans usually do quite well.

  • Same. green medkit with no addons.

  • It was a really good film. It was refreshingly original at the time.

    Which reminds me, I was on the Mothers Dwelling map once and I went into the house and there was a Meg "doing a Blair Witch" just standing in the corner. I think she was just AFK, but after seing this film I was so freaked out! It was against the Hag too which made it feel even worse.

  • Definitely Demogorgon for me!

    I just wish I could hit people from the top of hills.

  • Default killer MMR is set a little high. Play a few games with the SAME killer, take a few losses and then you will be able to enjoy killer games. As the worst Huntress EU, I can even get an average of two kills with her.

    The main reason MMR is complained about is that at the top level, really good killers are versing really good survivors and it highlights an inbalance in the power of both roles.

  • The music is great and I really like the balance change.

  • It seems silly. If they don't get enough kills their MMR goes down naturally. I know for some players their starting MMR was set too high (mine was on many killers too), but after a few games of getting my bottom handed to me, I started to get the potatoes more suited to my own level of ineptitude.

    You're conflating two different interactions. This topic is about Sever-Side Hit Validation which has nothing to do with pallet stun management or even grabs. As discussed, SSHV doesn't seem to even validate high ping hits despite devs indicating this. The official quote is, "Under normal circumstances where the Killer has a solid connection to the server, hits are still handled on the Killer’s end as they were before and you should not notice any difference."

    The problem is how they define "solid connection," their definition appears to be very generous. We do know that SSHV tolerates pings as high as 500, which is terrible. Even at 150, that is a significant advantage to The Killer at the expense of the Survivor. 500 is an insane advantage.

    Ah, I see. Without wanting to get off-top too much, how DID you find pallet hits with such a high ping?

    Edit: I said low, I meant high.

  • @Nicholas said:

    @Ohnoes It amazes me that few discuss such a wide impacting issue. Maybe most are just accustomed to the frequent fake hits from a mile away. I wonder if Connection-Based Matchmaking is what the game needs; SBMM has some ambitious goals about making matches "fairer," but if The Killer has a significant advantage, exactly how fair is it anyway?

    @Dennis_van_eijk The competitive ping advantage works one way, in favor of The Killer. If both The Killer and Survivor have high ping, things will get wonky as some hits may get rejected or validated. However, we're discussing the tremendous advantage of The Killer on a high ping versus a survivor player who has excellent ping. When these two meet, The Killer has the advantage. The exception seems to be an incredibly high ping - perhaps 501+, that number is unknown, but it is pretty generous.

    @JawsIsTheNextKiller What are you saying? Your ping as The Killer is always low, and survivors with higher ping have an advantage over you? That sounds highly unusual, especially since the server still favors what the killer player sees. The only exception is when the killer players' ping is "high."

    @zarr Good points, I agree. Pallet Stun changes were significant initially; pallet stuns felt crispy and responsive. However, they probably changed it due to complaints because it feels back to day one, still getting struck through pallets. The fact that we don't see myriad videos and complaints about rejected hits likely indicates that hit validation doesn't exist or is exclusive to a small segment of killer players on other planets.

    Yes. I know we were told that hit validation was supposed to favour the better Internet connection but I've a funny feeling (at least for pallets) it works the same as before: favouring the poorer connection. I often hit the menu to check the survivor's ping after getting validated and it's usually from a bad ping survivor.

    My ping to my ISP is 1ms, and my ping on DBD is usually at around 30ms. The survivor is often double that.

  • Okay I've marked it on my calendar. Thanks for letting us know.

    Don't forget to come back in a month and we'll discuss how well your prediction went.

  • It's a shame she can't store her flashlight there too, then the killer won't know to bring Lightborn.

    There's probably a shortage of space though, it is rather a large book.

  • I am very lucky to live in an area with a really good Internet connection. My ping is always very low, lower than the survivors typically have. Unforunately, because I like to play Dead by Daylight, I get far, far more than my fair share of hit validation and it is always against survivors with poorer ping than my own.

    Dead Hard pretty much always fails too (although that might be more about my terrible survivor abilities than ping)

  • I don't know if this is a coincidence or not but it only seems to crash during loading when someone is a Mikaela. I know that perks can be "killswitched" now. Can survivors too?

    I've always used that perk... It has now been 2 years,

    I can't use it more, since it's litteraly impossible, but I guess this perk will be more useful as it was before

    They buffed the best survivor perk in the game as far as I am concerned. Slot 3 in every one of my survivor load-outs has WoO glued to it and never gets taken off. The only other perk that has that luxury is BBQ.

    (That's not a complaint btw)
