This is what is termed as "validation", where the server will check and validate any hits. If it doesn't think you got the hit, it won't give you the hit. This is different to the previously killer-sided check which would only look at the killer's side of things; now it is entirely server sided.
Basically, whoever's message hits the server first wins.

Now imagine us consolers on the older units who never see above 30 frames and are locked on Ultra graphics...

Recently, it's been getting more and more difficult to enjoy this game and to look over the glaring issues. The Console port of DBD has shown that the game is extremely poorly optimized, and performance will continue to get worse unless BHVR addresses the issues now.
I fear that soon, the game will become unplayable for us on current-gen Consoles. Resident Evil broke the game for a month, and it still hasn't fully recovered. What this shows is that the issue is built into the game itself, and will likely continue to worsen if it is not resolved. Likewise, we are seeing the return of bugs long thought patched, which makes me suspect that the entire code is starting to crumble under the weight of the game. I hope BHVR takes the time to do this correctly and fixes their game. If they do not, I fear we will soon lose the ability to play it at all.
Here are some videos demonstrating my points, please note that these were all taken PRIOR to the RE patch in June of 2021. These issues have been plaguing Console players since the game was ported in 2017. I doubt there will ever be an official confirmation from BHVR, but it is important that we do not let these issues go silently. The only thing we can do is continue to talk and spread awareness about them.

August Edit: Well, we are nearing 100 pages. Congrats everyone. We still haven't gotten an answer from BHVR about what happened to Optimization, but we have inspired others to start to question it. I've furthered clarified the purpose of the thread and adjusted some of the language used in this opening statement to better reflect that.
Thank you.
Y'all may wish to give this thread a peep. Be warned it's at about 130 pages right now, by far the longest post ever on this forum.

To report someone for breaking in-game rules such as cheating/hacking, make sure record video of the match (which on PS4 you can do via the "Share" button, and from there can upload it to a linked YouTube account), and then report them in game (required), as it will help flag the match. After that, you can submit a ticket to report with video evidence to Support: https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
In regards to information where it asks for Gamertag or Steam 64 ID, you can put the Gamertag as it showed in game. For more information on reporting, you can find it here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/139-game-rules

You'd fill out the in-game report from the end of the trial, and somehow come up with video proof. I too have no idea how to get someone's Steam ID as I'm on Xbox myself, but that is needed too.
As @Veinslay says it's no picnic from a console.
@MandyTalk what would be the best procedure with a report coming from their PlayStation4?

@Pulsar more than anyone else you proudly and sensibly represented us consolers and our fustrated passion for this game. Given what you went into on this post I have even more respect for you, a bar that was already quite high, and am amazed you booted up DBD for this long.
A lot of what you stated obviously festered over time and recent changes just pushed you on over. I hope getting all this out now plus this break (forever or not) genuinely does you good.
The list of what is worth our physical and/or mental health is quite short indeed.

Well once you are hooked by a camper there's not much you can do really. I'd say just keep struggling until the end so you give your team enough time to escape. If you could find 3 other players to join your team you could coordinate a play in which someone tries to lure the killer away while someone else goes for the unhook. But if you are solo Q that's just not possible. After a while, you just get used to it, tho.
No one really gets used to it imo.

A common misconception in pvp games in general is that balancing around high levels of play will some how inhibit a noob from entering the game or find success. This is demonstrably false. When you balance around "end game" or experienced players, you're balancing the entry level by default. The end game sets the pace and the goal, the early game is literally just a tutorial. If an end game player with 1000s of hours can know with pixel perfection how to exploit a system <----YOU BALANCE THE GAME AND FIX THAT SYSTEM. Because at the end of the day that same experience is going to be used AGAINST a new player, and a new player will have no way of combatting it. At the same time, Skill caps, should stay high. To avoid end game players running into walls that their mechanical skill can't cover, and to give new players something to achieve INCREASING their skill. If you only balance around new players, and noob entry level gameplay NO ONE WILL IMPROVE. So that things that can be solved with skill <---Are instead replaced by the game auto driving itself to make up for lack of awareness and lack of skill. <---This hurts everybody, its hurts competative play, and it hurts noob play. Noobs end up never learning how to deal or cope with anything and get blasted by simple things that can be adjusted with a bit of learning. Meanwhile Competative players have to deal with a completely unbalanced, unfun, and uncompetitive game because they get restricted by brick wall skill caps.
^ League of legends already tried the concept of balancing for noobs, or balancing for entry level players to "get more people involved with the game" It literally destroyed an entire season of ranked games because the balance was completely broken (AKA anybody remember tanky dps meta?) Tanky dps back in the day had low pick rates because they required more skill and more item knowledge than grabbing a mage and picking up a death cap (or 2 if you're familiar with season 1) So what did the devs do... Buffed the everloving christ out of tanky dps characters so people new to the role wouldn't have such a hard time.....
^ The end result.... ^ HIGH LEVEL competative players picked up these same tanky dps characters and were basically invincible. Literal gods. Literally cannot be touched after having like 6k gold it was over. Wrap it up if you're a mage, leave the game if you're an AD ranged carry, if you're a support just roll over because tanky xin xao is going to 5v1 your entire team and walk away with 10% hp and a pentakill. Probably the worst season I and many other have ever experienced in that game. There was no % hp damage, and penetration items didn't give you much damage so you had to just sit there and take it.
Now if you were a noob during that time, the game was great....low elo games, people that weren't level 30 had an amazing time I'm sure until someone who knows the system goes "Oh...they buffed tanky dps for this elo, I'm gonna go Garen+a few tanky items and literally 1 dps item and just 1v5, once noobs figure out the exploit its what happens all the time. But anything you add to "Help some noob" is going to in tandem BUFF THE EVERLOVING HELL out of high level players. Which is why so many people in competitive scenes say "Balance around the end game" "Balance around high level play" Because the alternative means bricking competitive play and end game so that the meta is stale as hell and nobody has fun games because of some BS noob helper you added in.
I am not saying solely balance around any player experience level, just to include all of the playerbase in decision-making that's all.

Maybe balancing considering the high level players is not good, but balancing considering only the noobs (as they seems to do) is even worse.
The results of balancing considering only the noobs:
- The pig and Freddy being gutted (the two classical noob stomper killers) someone can say Billy, but he's still good with proper addons.
- Broken maps, some with an huge amount of pallets (Mostly Gideon meat plant) and others with overwhelming loops and chained conections between loops, pallets, jungle gyms, T-walls, infinites... (Badham, Haddonfield, Mother Dwelling, Eyrie of crows sometimes, Fractured Cowshed and Ormond mostly) The noobs need a lot of pallets and pallets conected with structures and windows for not being downed quickly, but any survivor with ONLY 200-300 hours already know how to exploit them, and a survivor with that amount of hours is not exactly a pro, imagine one with 2.000+ hours.
I am not saying solely balance around any player experience level, just to include all of the playerbase in decision-making that's all.

@Peanits Don't let negative comments ever put you down.
I just wonder how these negative killer changes bridge the gap for the killer player facing SWF? Awhile back, It was said that there would be improvements for survivor to bridge gap between solo survivors and SWF survivors between killer.
It was said that when survivors would become as strong as SWF. Killers would become too weak as result. Will killer ever be changed to be able to go against SWF at higher-levels of play?
Please, everyone try and not focus on expert badass gameplay in DBD, the so-called high level play. They've proven time and again their intention to consider all players of all skills in proposed changes, not just how it would affect the best players.
Whatever changes you have in mind, please always tag onto it "How would this affect a brand-new player? Or one with less than 200hrs?" Because that's the biggest portion of the playerbase.
What chance do we have of keeping players longer if changes immediately become frustratingly noob-stomping? The grind is already rough, the tutorials (imo) still unsatisfactory. Now add on something only aimed at the top 5,000 or so best players we have? No one would stick around to "git gud".

Well I'm not talking strictly 1% of players...high MMR games dont have to be tournament style sweaty games. We're not in that realm of sweat here. You can be in high MMR and not play tournament ready players. They just have to a good SWF team with meta perks, which most SWF teams have.
The issue is whether those SWF teams are playing to win or just having fun and messing around with the killer or farming points. The data from those games should be irrelevant but I'm sure they are included in that 15%
I'm not talking just the sweatlords in either role, but all those near or at that mythical top mmr area. Altogether they're still not the chunk of all.
Too bad we'll never get a full breakdown of the playerbase.

Top end killers with full meta are not going to get 4k against sweaty SWF teams. You will not have a 3 gen to play off of for starters.
And both of these types of players make up a very small fraction of the entire playerbase. I doubt they look deeply at stats for either of those two groups, and we all know they don't balance around them and won't.
All their efforts go towards the newbies and the vast bulk of the players, those who haven't played for a thousand hours or more yet. We need to remember that.

My idea to change CoH is to model it after the last change to Built to Last. When it is snuffed out and rebooned, it it less effective with healing and a smaller range each time.

Is this because of console policies or just a personal BHVR decision?
I doubt it's due to the consoles themselves, more likely because DBD doesn't support M&K on them, and adding that apparently is quite a pain and not coming either.
Also I doubt PCrs are willing to stick around for 14min while I type out something with the controller.

Insufficient as it only displays Steam players, while leaving out the larger playerbase of all the consoles together. And sadly they cannot show everyone due to the UEA's with the various consoles.

Move my Piggy's roar a lil more towards the middle of an ambush instead of at the beginning. And how about 2-3% faster speed while crouched please.
-
The prestige levels only really seem to matter to those who've already maxed out their favorites (or maxed out everything) so basically just the very veteran players.
The devs seem to concentrate primarily on the newer playetbase, who may never prestige much due to the severe grind from scratch. So I don't see them adding or changing much in this area.
I myself haven't prestiged anyone in about two years, just semi-grinding my favs as new perks are added. I'm also one of those strange ones who care nothing about cosmetics or charms.

If I can see my ping, and in ANY other multiplayer game I can see my opponents ping. We need to be able to see the Killer's ping.
10 games of VPNs and Consoles sitting an acre away from their router is just way too annoying when I make it over a pallet or through a window and make it 3 steps only to get hit, or make a killer swing completely behind me facing the other direction and still get hit.
If I can see my ping and my teammate's ping, I need to be able to see the Killer's ping so I know what to expect out of a match. Killers can see a Survivors ping and know what to expect, so how does it not extend both ways.
The only thing I can think of is not showing all pings to avoid dodging, but to me that's not good enough a reason.
-
Yes this is correct. And the same for PS4 and PS5, unless you run the PS4 version on the 5, but why would you?
-
@Bwsted said:
That's simply not true. They simply gave the figures, never said anything about it.
The reasons of the change where clearly detailed in the devs' notes:
We took a close look at the perk to identify what makes it so frustrating to play against. Three key issues were identified:
- Its punishment of new players or those who can't hit Great Skill Checks. Newer players trying to help veterans with generator repairs tend to make the situation worse rather than better.
- The passive nature of the gameplay pressure it provides means that there is a huge amount of potential with very little effort or risk on behalf of The Killer.
- Its inconsistency due to the random nature of the appearance interval of skill checks.

This. it was a noob-stomper and y'all know how they feel about the new player experience in these matters.
I still see Ruin a fair amount, but it's reduction in use is due to boons more than it being less effective while it stays up.
