Fun is subjective.

Few make off with the goodies in your basement chest, huh?

One issue is the lack of peeps playing the killer role, causing queue times for survivors to soar.
When survs have been waiting for too long, especially in groups who've been dodged repeatedly, the "acceptable" skill gap widens. After way too long survs can be thrown in with the next available killer, regardless of their skill level.
This is by no means the main or only reason for screwy matchmaking, but no doubt worsens it at times.

I saw another post asking for the red stain to be tied to movement direction and camera direction.
Wouldn't that just eliminate any mindgaming at all?

You can tell they had a difficult time reproducing it because a while back there was a post in the bug reports section of a dev basically begging PC Players to send their logs so they could see ######### was happening.
This is one of the issues that fustrates me. Us consolers cannot help in things like this despite being collectively the larger playerbase. But no logs to send, making reports is a royal pain, and precious few stream/record our games. Lots of examples of such a bug that they have no access too sadly.

Just making another ticket to raise more awareness on this.
This is not a balance issue, it's game breaking.
Unacceptable.
This audio bug has been around for almost three years at this point. Once it hits three it'll split into two other bugs and reproduce from there.
Seriously, my experience with this bug is that it is fustratingly random, not tied to any map, killer, surv, perk, status, not even a cosmetic. I have to believe that contributes to the devs having a difficult time reproducing it, but man three years is a long time too.

I'd agree with this

Clowns can deny and shut down loops so effectively, but against a strong team he'll go down without his one tap pinky.

Prolly true for PC but not the consoles. The various UEA's prohibit releasing specific data like that I bet.

Darn survs and their teamwork how dare they!

Of course feedback from here and elsewhere is funneled to the devs. None of it is ignored (aside from our stupid in-fighting with each other) although as pointed out lots of it is contradictory and/or impossible.
Please keep in mind most if you here, in particular the outrageously good veteran players, are all together a small part of the playerbase, and they must and do take all players into consideration.

I bloody dislike 'Game <x> does this, so why not THIS game?' suggestions.
A perfect example is this thread, where the suggestion makes absolutely 0 sense, and proves that you don't just do what 'other games' do. That's not how game design works.
Plus, if every game played follow the leader, we'd never have new stuff.
I agree such an approach is not for DBD. I was just trying to decipher what the OP actually meant.

It's not a fact. There's no way you could know that. If it were true then most complaints killers have are even more legit.
I'll relate what I do know is likely true, but since they cannot ever release player breakdown numbers due to the UEA's with the various consoles some conjecture is unavaoidable.
Altogether the consoles make up the larger playerbase by far, with the PlayStations being the largest (and got close to the PC total by themselves until the RE chapter nuked consoles badly). Both Xbox and PS have easy to use built-in comms.
Compared to PC the killer role is much much less played on console (for some reason ;) ) so the surv population is huge.
When they last put out player stats ( appoaching three years ago) about half of all survs were in at least a two-man SWF. Since solo queue is just so delightful and had been for a long time now, the number of SWF's must have grown alot.
So given that the larger playerbase has easy access to comms, most play predominantly the survivor role, and likely is playing less and less solo queue, what conclusions would you draw?

I think they should just try it rather than this half decade long thing where people have suggested a shapeshift killer since launch, and everyone keeps telling them it can't work due to SWF. Just do it anyway. Wouldn't be the first failed design if it doesn't work. Game is running out of fresh killer ideas as is.
Imagine a power where they could mimic a gen. After 25 sec of repairs it explodes, downing any survs working on it, and we see the killer slowly reasemble themselves and hopefully start hooking...

Hello guys. Since the Nemesis update, I have not been entering the game and I just start to enter the game like 1 week ago. During this 1 week time, I did play the game again and see the new things and etc... I wanted to share some of my perspectives because I think it is important to talk about them.
Note: When I left the game I was ranked 1 survivor and killer main.
So here are some notes about my perspective:
1- I really love the new killers like Nemesis, Pinhead, and Artist. I think they have some unique and cool playstyle(Especially the Artist). Also, I love their perks which are great for many killers and combos.
2- Boon Totems are really good for survivors but can be frustrating to the killers. However, it was a nice touch.
3- During my gameplay I really have a hard time against survivors while playing the killer. Most of the time the game punished me because I don't use perks like PGTW, Ruin, Corrupt and etc... which is something I am not happy about. However, as survivor side, I get quite easy matches and I get used to survivor faster and loop easier.
4- Racoon City map is massive and I think it is the most unbalanced map in the game. I can't imagine myself as a killer on that map. I barely found my way as a survivor on that map. The new Artist map is I think one of the nicest maps in my opinion.
5- Most of the survivors that I have been facing are quite experienced ones and give me hard times. Sadly I do not use perks like PGTW and etc... it ended me quite badly for that matches. Moreover, I saw quite hackers which do Lithe and Dead Hard nearly at the same time and nothing happened to them which makes me sad and I try to avoid killers for that
So I wanted your comments as well :)
You bring up in one post almost all thread subjects currently being discussed right now. Not bad for being back for a week only! :)

Imo one of the biggest problems is no highly visible console representation anywhere. There are no console Fog Whisperers, cannot even apply. There are no tournaments set up they won't deal with the frame rates or restrictions. There are precious few streamers and/or content creators of any appreciable size to get the attention needed.
Scott and True and damn near all others out there and known at all are on PC. If they wanted to put together a video about console issues they'd have to research it like a school project, as they themselves have little knowledge about it. They'd have to accept and use 2nd and 3rd hand and anecdotal perspectives, and likely have to guess themselves to try to answer questions. How could any of that be helpful?
-

Well two things are against "Da Rulez", farming isn't actually allowed unless all parties seem to be involved in it (Requires video proof). Also going afk isn't allowed and multiple cases could end up a temp suspension on your account, but also requires video proof.
So it goes down a line.
- Player breaks da rulez.
- Player needs to be recorded with some kind of replay recording device - a lot of times screenshots isn't even enough.
- Player needs to be reported in end game scoreboard screen.
- Reporter needs to upload video to a shareable video site like YouTube.
- Player needs to be reported via ticket at the BHVR support webpage. This must include; Link to the video of them breaking the rules. Players Username, steamID64 (Not available for consoles, windows, or Epic store)(Steam Only). Your Username/SteamID64.
- This has to happen multiple times, in a short time span. Like if a player afks one match, and then isn't reported for afking again like a week later. It's not likely any action would be taken.
Which is a lot of steps, and not very simple to do unless you've already done it quite a few times, and again a lot of work for something that will most likely be thrown out in a weeks time when no one else makes the same report - because it's a hassle to do. So it's very rarely ever a punishable offence.
But to answer your question; Yes, it is ban able.
I have some side questions about all that. Several patches ago the devs disabled recording DBD games for our Switch cousins. How could they successfully report a hacker/cheater? And how can anyone on console come up with Steam ID's for a report either?
Sounds to me like any report coming from consoles would be incomplete each time, lessening the chances of being acted upon to what? None?

Lol, wow dude you’re really worked up over them not having ingame voice chat on PC, especially considering you think it shouldn’t even be in the game in the first place! 😄
Those analogies are ludicrous, by the way. Car Manufacturers exist because people like to buy cars, their existence doesn’t prevent Busses from existing though or vice versa. If Busses were hyper-popular then yes, you’d see a ton less cars being bought and made because why invest time and money making something that people don’t buy?
Same with DbD adding voice chat ingame. Yeah that can add it but it takes time and resources, so you have to balance that against the payoff. Would adding ingame chat on PC increase sales of DbD enough to justify the expense? If the answer is No then it would be a bad investment. And the existence of popular third party solutions in that space skews the answer to the No side.
Also, I don’t play on console so someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but DbD on console does support the consoles’ voice chat systems as far as I know. It’s not like Behaviour tries to block voice chat on consoles.
On Xbox the party chat is quite easy to use, and isn't dependent on what game is being played. Often I'm in one where some are playing DBD and some are on Twitch or Destiny 2 or whatever.
The devs couldn't know who is on comms or not while playing, unless they stream-snipe! ;)

Correction. They don't want to punish survivors any more. killers don't matter as we can see by them attempting to stop camping.
"Camping" like so many othet terms we've added to DBD lingo is a broad idea and very subjective, and certainly permissible behavior.
A killer during EGC hovering a hook to secure their kill to me is vastly different than facecamping their first down at five gens to go because their proir match went badly. And so many variants in between those examples, like "proxy camping" and so on.
If it didn't suck so bad for the poor slob on the hook in many of those cases we wouldn't even be talking about it. While there are perks to bandaid deal with it somewhat, several killers have effective ways to play around them. SWF on comms aggravate all this because their potential coordination is so much easier to pull off, particularly during EGC.
I admit there's no easy solution here I'm afraid.
-
@concernedkiller said:
Cant take it away because for good or bad it is probably the most fun way to play the game. That being said they have to install some kind of progressive penalty for players swf with more players means more of a penalty. Whether that means nerfing the total perks they can use or cutting out their ability to use add ons, something needs to be done to balance out the inherent advantage of comms. This is for the sake of both sides. If they buff killers to be able to compete with comms the solo q survivors are the ones who are going to suffer.
My solution would be to remove any pre-game chats so players cant link discord info and penalize players who q with friends. If swf players complain that this ruins the experience they weren't enjoying the game to begin with but rather enjoying the sadistic pleasure of pub stomping random killers.
They won't ever penalize or debuff SWF, nor limit perks. They've made it very clear they don't want to punish anyone, and wish players to run whatever they like. So no tournament-level sanctions are coming.
I also see no realistic way of enforcing anything when it comes to comms, especially on the consoles, which together make up the majority of the playerbase. Microsoft mandated any game they accept cannot interfere with the party chats in any way, so Xbox is untouchable. I'm not sure for Sony but I imagine it's similar, can't speak for Discord.
Imo if we actually want our suggestions to be considered, we have to frame them with all that in mind. That only leaves getting solos the tools to make coordination & some kind of communication possible, and then rebalance the killers around that. Exactly how to do all that should be the real debate.

We're partly to blame for that, given our behavior towards them at times.
-
Health patch huh? Back in March 2019 they set a goal of 60fps minimum for all platforms. Ever since that announcement not so much as a peep. Complete radio silence then till now.
I would very much like an update on this goal, something that would truely benefit us all.
-
Standard and slim Xbox1 should get 45 or so when nothing exciting is going on, while the Xbox1x runs DBD somewhat better. However the various known triggers (Bloodlust, Exposed, Sloppy, gen completed, going into Dream World, etc) will tank frames still, plus there's those fun micro-freezes.
It isn't unusual to dip into the teens for frames on Lery's middle room when lots is happening.
Both PS4 and Xbox1 are capped at 60fps but in my experience you never achieve that.
-
I remember a streamer who played Spirit, just Spirit, and only with her best add-ons. They cycled through a dozen of more lobbies for one reason or another, looking for that perfect four. DC'd every time there was a map offering, no matter the map.
Said they had a headset so good & a sound card so awesome they "knew what the survivors had for last Thanksgiving." Had their gameplay so bright it looked like every map was like the updated Coldwinds on fire.
Would proceed to slug all four and hook no one, despite the number of gens left. Next would just stand over the last down for four minutes. Hated Unbreakable and Soul Guard openly, and would instantly DC if there was more than one Unbreakable used, saying "I'm not dealing with that #########!"
Would go after the survs in End Game Chat for their builds, or joyfully engage in the salt for their own playstyle of slugging. The night before the last changes to Spirit they said they're no longer playing due to them, and held true to that to this day.
If they had last a bit longer I believe they would have enjoyed coupling No Way Out with their NOED as well.
Most of this is valid gameplay absolutely (the video & sound card shenanigans isn't easy for a consoler to accept). But I view this behavior as unhealthy for that person and for the overall community in general. We lost precious little when they stopped playing i believe.
Please be kinder, and sometimes also play both sides, just a little.
-
When I'm in a group I run Distortion and either COH or Detectives depending on their builds. This instantly saves me from Leathal and allows me to inform the team, squashing it's effectiveness. Distortion also allows me to tick off killer builds and even their add-ons that have aura readings. I tried replacing it with Shadowstep, but it isn't the same.

As much as it pains me to admit, I'm finally done. Not with the game, just with Killer. It's gotten to be too stressful for the meager payout.
I'm afraid that I can't keep throwing myself at Killer anymore. I feel that I've reached my peak on the Killers I care about, but more importantly, the game has ceased to be fun. In all honesty, Killer hasn't been fun for a long time. There are serious balance and design issues that need to be addressed.
There is currently zero incentive to play Killer, besides better Bloodpoint gains. It's all stress and no reward. Even if you win, you don't really feel like you've won.
Everything about it is so frustrating. I hate having to micro-manage FOUR other players and try to keep them from steamrolling me. I don't want easy games, I want fun games. A fun game is a game where the stress of the gameplay is equal to the reward you get from winning. Think of it like a Dark Souls boss. You might hate the fight, die 30 times, but when you finally win it IS worth it. Killer isn't.
It's not even that the unfun stressful ######### is locked to Killer-only. I'm not one for tribalism.
I guess I'm just sad that I can't play my favorite game anymore. I've watched countless other people fall in and out of love with this game. I never thought it would be me next.
Ultimately, at the end of the day, I'm ranting and venting because I'm sad that this game isn't fun anymore and scared because I know this style of development isn't sustainable. You can't rely on a constant stream of new players. You can't constantly pander to new players but ignore promises you made to your community years ago.
I hope something changes. But I know it won't. I'll stick to Survivor, we'll see how long that lasts, maybe long enough that Killer can get some QoL to make it less stressful.
I also have.been playing less and less killer for a while.now, even before boons came out, for a variety of reasons, many of which you describe. Simply put it feels like there's not enough time to take care of business, and a mistake or two and you'll very likely get no kills at all. It's all rush rush rush all the time, and I'm not even a very good killer and I feel it too.
And to top it off we're both console killers, which brings additional challenges piled onto what we all share.
Been playing so much surv that my Amanda Panda won't even speak to me anymore. Incidentally, has your Xbox1x forgiven you for making it run DBD for so long yet?

In fairness, a lot of what filters do can also be found in TV and monitor settings. Or if they're just miscalibrated.
My old ass tv with an HMDI adapter just started giggling and almost fell over. The one brightness setting I have makes it look like nuclear winter when I screw with it.

They don't. It's the killer's choice. Hooks are the killer's part of the game. Gens are the survivors part of the game. Even with such a poor execution, it's obvious that's the game's base framework.
When it comes to facecamping, survivor complaints demonstrate zero responsibility when they still have moves. Don't go for the unhook when the killer is facecamping. Do go repair gens to draw the killer away or open the gates and get out. Either way, super easy solution. Again, the game needs to be threatening to survivors! Everyone isn't entitled to make it. Survivors are not conjoined quadruplets.
The whole purpose of perks like Borrowed Time is to counter facecamping, one of the most hated of killer tactics, and greatly helps with tunneling off of the hook, also hated. There's a reason it is run by so many survs. That perk with your change becomes pretty much useless, as would the lesser used perks involving the hooks. Sabo for instance would also be useless.
No way most players whon play both roles would support this change imo.
-
@Cropsy said:
First, any solution shouldn't be perk or ability based because it will just end up countered by the next set of dlc they release and the devs need to start making changes to the core game to build back some sort of integrity and balance. I understand new dlc/perks gets them more money, and they probably don't mind making stupid design moves if it keeps the cash flowing, but if I'm going to flat out stop playing this garbage since the fun is being sucked out of it, chances are I'm not the only one.
That aside, this has me thinking that survivors could automatically become exposed when they're in extremely close proximity to the killer for a duration that's longer than running by the killer. Stand by the killer for 2-3 seconds and you become exposed.
Honestly, I think this would be a fantastic idea overall. The killer gameplay suffers because skilled survivors aren't afraid of the killer. The killer isn't a threat. So, this would help with all the other posts and threads about how stressful or zero fun killer gameplay. Killer could actually be a threatening role like it should be.
I'd say the devs need to add a lot of universal (not requiring abilities or perks) terror radius/proximity effects to the killer in order to start fixing gameplay and make killers actually a threat. If we listen to other posters saying you have to manage your expectations for what fun or success is as a killer, it would at least give them something else to the experience to know you at least terrorized the survivor in this/that way, with whatever particular outcomes. They're obviously pushing the game to need to be more deviousness focused than sacrifice focused. So own up to it BHVR!
If any surv instantly becomes exposed when near the killer, how would they break up a facecamper ever? All the killer would have to do is hug the one on the hook and mow em down as they try to save.
No no no
-
They stated during their last Q&A they're not planning on adding any game modes sadly. Perhaps a more robust tutorial could run them, that'd be something at least.
Also, why just for PC?
-
I haven't been convinced yet that any Legion or my beloved Amanda should be able to lift up Jeff or Jane at all, let alone carry and dunk them! ;)
This game is known for setting aside physics in favor of mechanics, and the best teams will use their character's health states wisely and effectively.
I myself have had to plant my surv in the way in to break up a determined tunnel for instance. Did it last night, a D-Slinger after a Dwight on death-hook during EGC, and it pissed him off something phenomenal. I of course died there.
And that's the thing, the bodyblocking as killer feels wrong and fustrating as heck, so i see both sides of this. But my gut feeling says leave it in, it's teamwork in action.
There's a few perks that can somewhat help with it, like Mad Grit, STBFL, Unrelenting, NOED, Forced Pen, prolly others. Last resort is excellent pathing and "swimming" around the survs by the killer.
-
I say give COH diminishing returns just like reworked Built to last has. First blessing isnormal and full strength, but once snuffed out and reblessed it is weaker and has a smaller radius, and if snuffed again it gets even weaker. Makes it worth it for the killer to spend the time squashing them out.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2704258#Comment_2704258
I see a lot of solo survivors dodging lobbies because people are running default skins or don't have enough hours. I'm not sure if it's a good idea, but other games have a penalty for too much lobby dodging for this reason.
And those of us on console can't really check hours and stuff easily, and not at all if they're globes.
-
And what makes all this even worse is when a group (SWF or not) is dodged repeatedly and left waiting for too long.
After a certain amount of time has gone by such a group is thrown in with the next available killer, regardless of their skill level. Fun for a newbi-ish killer no doubt, and all too often the result of a group being dodged alot. Vicious cycle.

Ty but i know what it is. More commenting on how us consolers cannot participate i them, despite patches often doing more warm to our platforms, particularly us still toiling on the older machines.
