So I think it definitely could be possible to see a return of modding, I've read a lot of forums discussing this, and a lot of people have mentioned including an official steam workshop (however those are usually reserved for valve-made games). But I think it would be cool to see BHVR create an official modding website or app.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/0S41TC61GN6P/mod-284226-sd-image.jpg

We all know how much everyone adores our cocktail generators 😅. I understand the concern of people using it for cheating, but I think having a moderated modding site helps negate some of the issues we had in the past. I think some things should be off-limits for modding, such as

-Killer items (Bear Traps, Jigsaw Box, etc.)

    -Models (unless approved)

-Survivor sounds (I'd like to see the inclusion of voice lines, but it's just too risky to allow)

    -Killer Sounds

-Miscellaneous sounds (Crows, Gen Repairs, Lockers, Totems)

But some things I'd love to see be moddable would be

-Killer Chase Music (this one's touchy but I'll talk about it later)

    -Menu Music

    -Lobby Music

    -Cocktail Generators😎

-Loud noise notifications (generator explosions, spies from the shadows)

-Slight skin alterations, Such as the color palette change to Tricksters outfit.

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/M8QR40KXC543/image.png

Now on the controversy of killer chase music etc. I've seen some amazing music mods created, some very much more enjoyable than the default music, and with things like the legion music buff, it looks like a lot of people enjoy listening to Rockin music while they get chased by a vicious killer. I've heard before that chase music plays into balancing which is understandable, but I think BHVR can give us guidelines to what's acceptable and what's not acceptable when it comes to these scenarios.

The modding community was thriving, and I'd love to see its return! I believe moderating what is allowed to be changed and what is not allowed to be changed in the game's files is a safe approach to letting the community's creativity flow yet again. I understand a lot of people are gonna reply to this by mentioning how I have too much faith, or I'm being optimistic, but for those that are genuine, I'd like to hear your thoughts on what a moderated modding community could do for dead by daylight!

    Cheers! 😄

I just don't see them diverting resources and time to support this on PC, let alone even more resources and time to make it work for the much larger playerbase, the consoles. I'm assuming you were not only considering Steam for this though.

I doubt grass was causing lag as it was already low res to begin with but if you're correct than something should be done.

I do believe assets like the moving grass did indeed hurt frames on weaker PCs and in particular on last gen consoles. Makes sense they've greatly reduced their usage, but yeah it hurts Trapper and Hag.

  • @MandyTalk or another mod, can you undo all that extra stuff after my comments please? I cannot seem to fix it...

The game is already too survivor sided DH , COH , tool boxes , gen rushing , sabotage , body blocking , flash lights , subtle cheaters and when you play with 4 other players using voice chat killers have no chance at winning because your location is communicated constantly between everyone so they know when to work on gens and when not. They can time body blocks and sabotages efficiently and flashlight saves which makes hooking someone way more difficult especially when someone is on death hook and the 4th survivor is always working on gens and they swap and every gen progress is known to everyone because of voice communication someone can always finish the gen when the killer chases the survivor that was repairing it .

Usually 4 stack swf runs the same perks that will give them a big advantage as a group so if you either slug or do anything else they have solutions plus the 5th perk slot for everyone ( COH ) but solo q everyone runs their own build that doesn't make the whole match impossible for killers like swf does.

This whole thing hurts solo q survivors too so I think nerfing swf is necessary either slow gen speed or limit swf to 2 players max it's easier to deal with 2-2 stacks than a 4 stack.

Changing the gen speeds would be a terrible idea, and make doing them more tedious as well.

Let's say they do as you suggest:

You're solo with another solo and a two-man, one of which is dead, with one gen to go and the other solo slugged. The killer is chasing you and the remaining swf is on that last gen, but it takes them twice as long as a solo would to repair (or whatever % debuff) and you after an epic chase finally are downed. The killer then chases the other solo and downs them

4 RANK 1 SURVS ON DISCORD VS ANY RANK KILLER IS JUST UNFAIR AND UNFUN

like i played from ashe to gold and am a returning player and i legit see red ranks every game and mostly red rank swf groups who are toxic a holes and you can not beat. even with out flashlights you can't see their perks so you don't know their rank or their perks and get rolled.

like how is this in anyway fun versing 4 rank 1s who are a swf on discord calling out everything and with so much teamwork you just end up ether face camping a kill or afk in a corner.

like this is just so boring this is supposed to be a fun arcade game but all i see is hey guys lets group up and bully the killer the whole game.

the killer is supposed to put FEAR and PRESSURE on the survs not get bullied.

looks like i have to take another break cause this is just so boring. killer has no impact in the game and its so easy to roll a killer.

killers should have some advantage other than have to snowball but the snowball is so rare it never works.

i am just annoyed that ever game i have red ranks ether a duo or a 4 stack and i legit can't do anything cause by the time i finsh a chase 3 gens pop and its ggs at that point.

the maps are so surv sided too, the blendettes just vanishing mid chase is so annoying and confusing cause you legit can't find them sometimes since they are deep in the bush which does not give the killer los.

i just want to enjoy killer again not get bulled when i am the one who should be bulling people in a 4v1 game.

like actually unfun, why even bother playing killer at this point but surv has such a boring playstyle so why even bother playing the game in gen.

    • It depends on how good they are. Most swf are garbagio to be real with you. I am scared of 4 competent survivors regardless of rank more than 4 clowns who are coordinating.

That's just one senario. Plus sitting on a gen isn't exactly the funniest activity either.

The devs seem intent on lifting solos toward swf level, not punishing anyone with limits on perks and such.

Is there a reason why the game runs smoothly in Custom games than actual games?

Seems to me that there is a massive difference in the FPS

Because KYF mode still uses the killer makes the lobby method of joining that the game used until dedicated servers were introduced. The consoles, especially the last gen machines, can handle these connections much easier it seems.

Others way smarter than me prolly can answer why.

Is modding ever gonna be back? like i feel that has been a huge part of dbd for the players that done that and i personally myself did it years back until it was removed and i dont know what has been the reason to remove it. i understand you could have mods that gave a competitive advantage but i feel something could have been done without completly removing it like have things like trapper's traps models being completly uneditable. I personally loved to play hillbilly without that annoying glow on the chainsaw and without the smoke coming out of it and many other mods that have been mostly not harmful to gameplay experience

As far as I remember the main reasons given were as you said to prevent competitive edges from being used, and the fact that if the anti-cheat bans you the devs cannot help with that. So simply recoloring the perks and such "can" lead to a permanent ban, although I've never heard of it happening.

Another reason I can think of is the consolers (like me) cannot use mods, and are by a wide margin the larger playerbase. Unlikely these devs will put time and resources into anything that isn't available across all platforms imo.

This is why we need the DbD mobile lobby in the base game. Finds five players, match starts in five seconds. No messing with matchmaking or dodging this or that. As well as showing load outs.

Sadly that game was coded from the ground up just for mobiles, and is an entirely different team from the PC & console version.

One wonders of they even speak to each other. .

So its our responsibility to consider the bad matchmaking, instead of the devs to put in a decent one?

Of course not, but I think many are unaware that the current matchmaking has one shot at a "fairly" matched lobby, and that when someone leaves it backfills in favor of queue times.

We're making it worse by dodging lobbies. And it is both roles not just killers, as I see many survs leaving for whatever reason too.

  • @MilManson said:

  • @Tactrix said:

Get rid of SWFs, get rid of ingame chat both pre and post. And get rid of the basement.

I will explain my reasoning. First, SWFs, they were never suppose to be in this game. Look at the game itself, it's designed to be 4 solo Q survivors against 1 killer. And we know this because first 50% of the abilities are based around information where everyone is, and second notice how none of the survivors come with a headset, or a radio? Yea that's by design. SWF has a always been a really bad option in this game, because with SWF the survivors can literally tailor their builds around just telling each other where the killer is, and that's a huge advantage.

Next is chat, chat has never served in any positive light EVER. In pregame it's designed to once again circumvent the ability to play solo Q blindly, and in post game it's designed for trolling, because what else does anyone ever say? If you want people to be able to say GG endgame, just make it a clickable button and remove chat entirely.

And finally the basement. Killers exploit that way WAYYY too much, there are killers like trapper and hag that are designed around that place being inescapable. So yea, it needs to be removed heavily.

    1. As others have stated, SWF was always intended but when the game was first released they had time to complete either KYF or SWF. Upon release the lobby dodging to queue up with your buds hurt wait times badly, and now with MMR the backfilling wreaks matchmaking as well.

No doubt the effect of comms was hideously underestimated by the devs, but with more than half of all survs in at least a two-man (and that was about three years ago stats, with solo-queue even harsher now i bet the number of SWF is much higher) this mode is here to stay.

The devs have decided to get solos the info and potential to approach SWF level of coordination, so it hopefully matters less which way survs queue up. Mighty tall task imo, but that's the course they're on.

    2. Can't the chat box be turned off on PC? Us consolers cannot even use it anyway, and collectively console is the much larger playerbase. I think that box has little impact overall.

    3. Basement gone? Really? I look at the basement as fine with knowledgeable players, and of course a deathtrap for certain killers and builds. Killers should have a strong point if they know how to use it imo.

  • Don't want or need shirtless whatever in DBD, I have so little interest in cosmetics.

I want NOED, Dead Hard, COH, and a couple of other things tweaked into something approaching fair & balanced. I want players to play both roles regularly cause both are fun again, and to increase understanding and compassion.

I want more than 15 fps in Lery's middle room again. I want them to stop nibble-nurfing my poor poor Piggy. And I want us all not to live in dread of what 6-13 things will be broken or bugged in each and every update.

But mostly I want Mountain Dew.

  • @Percival_nxs said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2853714#Comment_2853714

well, actually there would be a way, but that would kill the game. The thing would be to remove the ability to lobby with steam friends or friends in general, the only way to play survivor is by starting a game with random players.

When DBD was just released the SWF part was not ready yet (added soon after). So friends would lobby dodge until they got the same lobby with their buds, but queue times worsened.

We already know lobby dodging wreaks MMR, so survs resorting to this would add to that problem as well.

Plus none of this prevents party chats/discord comms, which iwould be unenforceable.

  • How would this work on console & controller? Pressing in on one of the joysticks maybe?

And I'd suggest making it toggleable for those who don't wish to use it, or maybe use different bindings already.

And apparently things aren only slightly better in new gen. PS5 is not even close to being possible to buy with my country's economy, so i can only dream of it. But i wonder why console always seems to have issues that PC doesnt, im not an expert on technical details so im unaware of if it can even be fixed in the first place.

Most of the stronger PC's can brute force through these issues, and most have more stable connections too. But lower-end PC's share many of our problems as well.

It just seems so bunk on older consoles now no matter how you chalk it up.

Unlikely to happen, and if it does imo it'll be near the end of the game's life, so Microsoft and Sony know they won't lose much $$.

Good on you for intentionally missing the point when I’m clearly talking specifically about Blight flicking. Why are you like this? What drives you to be like this?

I see just Blight. So a crazy DPI on a mouse for him is no different than the input delay and dead-zone joystick movement in even a max-sensitivity controller? Good to know.

Listen, I know you don't want them to mess with Blight again, and make play different or even worse, a legit concern. We all remember Billy's last changes. However I want Blight to play the same on any Platform, even on the Switch. But I'm not convinced they can do it.

  • Sometimes I get the option to start DBD on my Xbox while it's still downloading an update, saying "Ready to start" I think.

When i did the game kept crashing, and it unequiped the loadouts of all my characters as well. Was quite annoying having to put back on every perk and cosmetic onto everyone.

Now I patiently let any update finish.

  • @GillyBeannn said:

I'm not sure if this helps but, it's just something that's gonna take time to get used to overtime and with practice. I personally play all my killers at 80 sens, and the only time I went higher was when I was playing Nurse. If you need to adjust your sens depending on your killer, then that's fine. However do expect frame drops whenever you use your power or anything random occuring in the match. It's unfortunately the norm for us, and it'll probably disorient you for a moment because you might lose where you're going or the survivor for a moment.

Any m1 killer or m1 killer's with zoning power's are a lot easier on controller to play with. I will warn that Nemesis is the killer that will most likely drop high frames, he drops console frames a lot when playing survivor but I don't from playing him himself, but I would assume so.

Do practice with simple m1 killer's like wraith, trapper, or Doctor to get the feeling of things. If you must, use unrelenting to help you recover from missed attacks quicker. It's kinda hard to give out useful tips sorry, since I played on controller for most of my life and it just comes naturally to me. If a survivor does try to spin you though, you would hold the attack button and turn both your joysticks accordingly to hit the survivor. Turn them all the way left or right, it doesn't need to be a clockwise or counter clockwise motion, just simple turning a sharp left or right is good for spinning. I'd recommend using high sens if you wanna be able to spin as fast to hit the spinning survivor, otherwise you'll just have to wait it out.

I have tried Bubba before and trying to curve his chainsaw with controller is pretty hard since you need to be careful not bump into a lot of small things or weird hitboxes. I would probably just look up Bubba tutorials on controller.

Also console dbd in naturally darker by default and there's no option to turn to quality down to low, it's set I believe on high or ultra by default (probably why we have so many fps issues) so if you're playing on your TV just turn your brightness settings up.

So all in all, I'd recommend practicing with basic m1 killer's to get used to the movement and everything, then once you get comfortable, try more challenging killer's like blight or even spirit, hell even Bubba for those chainsaw curves. And do be prepared for the stuttering you'll have in your games.

This is a pretty good breakdown. To it I'd add a few things: Have a timer in your head for when Bloodlust kicks in, because should you swing as it activates you'll eat a huge frame drop and the surv is simply gone. Also I find it better to stop or even take a step back to deal with survs trying to spin me, because if I up the sensitivity past 60 I get nauseous, prolly why I can't play several killers on console.

An M1 is far easier to land than a Chainsaw, even if the Survivors are way better than you.

Plus, it confirms a 2K+ for Bubba.

The small bump in speed is nice too

  • Xbox1x, with crossplay on due to queue times when playing surv. Used to turn it off for killer too, but got more comfortable with it.
