  • I think Rancor is fine as it is. It's viable by itself, and great to mix with some perks.

People compare it to Bitter Murmur, but it has one solid advantage on Murmur... It's not restricted to showing the people near the gen. If you've got 2 on a gen and 1 sneaking in to save, Rancor will show you all 3 of them while Murmur would only show the 2 on the gen.

Ive gotten my best results from Rancor by pairing it with STBFL and just ignoring the obsession the whole game, but even by itself it's good.
  • You gain one point for hitting them, and you lose one point for them getting healed. Even if they're unhooked and healed, you still gained 3 points in Malicious (2 hits, 2 points for a new hook stage, -1 for them getting healed).

If you hook someone three times to kill them then you get 10 Malicious (out of 36 for Iridescent) from that survivor. It doesn't matter if they get healed or not, the net result of a 3-hook sacrifice is 10, a 2-hook sacrifice is 9, and a 1-hook sacrifice is 8. So if anything, it punishes you for camping.

If you hit someone and then lose them, it's a net zero score... you got a point for hitting them, you lost that point when they healed.

The only other way to lose points is if someone escapes your grasp, in which case you lose the point you gained when you downed them. The end result of a sacrifice is the same 10 points.

besides freddy, i wouldnt be able to name any other killer who is worse than LF atm...

Trapper, Doctor, Pig, Spirit, Wraith... Leatherface is bad, but there's plenty of killers who are far worse than he is.

I LOL'ed. Who did you get that tier list from, TydeTime?

Hag is in the top 3. Doc, Pig, and Spirit are mid-tier.
  • He does move while stalking in the movies.

His breath is so loud I can hear him on the ground floor of a house while I'm repairing a generator upstairs.

Hide in a place where you can make it so zero pixels are visible.

105% is slower than Hag/Huntress/Spirit. Guess what? Mikey already moves at 105% in EW1. He moves at 72% while stalking.

You counter Myers by opening your eyes and breaking line of sight. It's not hard.

  • My favourites to go against are Hag, Myers, Spirit, and Pig. It's really all for the same reason, too... all four of them have the potential to give me a minor heart attack.

Being a Hag main, I usually enjoy watching a Hag and seeing how they set their traps. Sometimes I learn something new. In fact, i learned a few tricks for trapping the farm harvesters by going against a good Hag during the recent event. Sometimes I just sigh as I watch them put 15 traps around a single hook, probably not even realizing they're recycling their traps at that point.

Myers to me is the king of the unexpected. Will it be silent wallhack Myers, or will it be infinite EW3 Blood Warden Myers? Hell, you don't even know if he'll pop EW3 and mori you on the spot.

Pig is a combination of the general sneakiness and the built-in delay mechanism. She's another one who can play in unexpected wsys, too. Though sneaky wallhack Pigs are fairly rare, unfortunately.

With Spirit it's the uncertainty. Is she haunting or not? Is she vaulting that window or haunting around it? Will she keep chasing that guy or did she see you working on the gen?

I dislike going against Leatherface, primarily because there's a 99% chance of camping. I actually enjoy trying to dodge a LF chainsaw.

I also dislike playing vs Freddy. He's one of those killers I think of as "good idea, bad execution". Most matches against him seem to devolve into "sleep, lose killer, wake up on a gen, sleep" just over and over. I usually escape against him, but it's just not fun.

You can use a mori, thats how I got my adept Freddy achievement. AFAIK DC's will mess you up. As long as all 4 survivors do not escape or DC, you shold get the achievement.

DCs definitely count toward the Adept achievement; I got Adept Nightmare that way.

The first survivor DCed as soon as I put them to sleep. The second DCed as soon as I downed them. The third DCed right after the second, and then I hooked the fourth. I got Adept Nightmare without even completing the Freddy ritual I was actually trying for.

Idk. I used a Mori on Freddy. Killed 3 and one of them dc'd. Didn't get the achievement. But there are still 2 different kind of dc's. The "leave match" dc and the internet plug dc. The Survivor who dc'd pulled the plug cuz there was no sound when he dc'd, so maybe that's why or otherwise it was buggy when I tried those achievements.

Possibly. It may also matter that the last survivor in my match died "correctly" on the hook. Perhaps if the last survivor DCs the system counts the match differently.
  • I've only been tombstoned twice, but both of those were entirely my fault. Both were also funny as hell.

1.) I find the Ruin totem while walking to the first gen after spawning. While cleansing, I see Myers stalking toward me. I say to myself "Even if he downs me, it's worth it to get rid of Ruin". I finish the totem, start to run off, and I'm tombstoned less than a minute into the game. I laughed so hard my ribs ached, and I stuck around spectating just to say GG.

2.) I'm waiting at the edge of the exit, at the point where him hitting me will just push me out of the match. I'm trying to keep him busy while the other exit is opened (with Empathy, I could see the other survivor opening it). I knew he had infinite EW3, but i thought i was safe. You know what happened next. Again, I laughed at my own stupidity and gave the killer a GGWP.

I like it when something crazy happens in a match, even if it kills me. I've played hundreds of matches, but those two stick out in my mind.

  • Not everyone needs BBQ or Ruin.

You'll want M&A for Hag and Myers at least. It's also useful on Spirit and Pig.
MYC is useful on many killers.
Coulrophobia and/or Sloppy Butcher for most killers.
    Nurse's for most killers.

For Hag and Pig I run M&A, Sloppy, MYC, and Nurse's. You can switch either MYC or Sloppy for Coulrophobia to stop those survivors who try to finish off that last bit of healing before you get to them.

Doctor: Distressing, Unnerving, Sloppy, and anything else.

For Spirit M&A, Rancor, STBFL, and Nurse's. (Rancor and STBFL work well together on several killers.)
  • Keep your eyes open and your camera moving. If you're out in the open, pan the camera around 360 degrees and look for the killer. If you're in an enclosed area, switch the camera back and forth between any possible entrances the killer could come through. Keep doing this unless you know for sure it's not a stealthy killer.

Scouting is important. I don't mean creeping around until you see the killer, i mean using the clues you're given to make an educated guess at what you're facing. Your real stealth killers are Myers, Spirit, Pig, and M&A Hag. Freddy and Wraith have to announce their presence and then wait several seconds before they can even hit you, so I don't even think of them as really being "stealthy".

Essentially, you try to narrow down the possible killers by observing the match. Most of the killers have sound cues (chainsaw, blink, trap triggers, the Spirit's "whoosh", etc). Two have visible props that you're likely to see as your camera pans around while loading in. Three have effects that show on the status bar. Or, you could just run Alert and see which killer it is the first time they break something.

Once you know which killer you're going against, you can plan your escape routes accordingly.

Against stealth killers that can jumpscare grab you (not Freddy or Wraith), don't repair a gen on a side that that forces you to sit by a blind corner (you're just asking them to come around the corner and grab you). Use your third-person camera to look around corners before you walk out. Watch for disturbed grass or Wraith shimmer. Listen for footsteps, haunting, and heavy breathing.

Premonition, Spine Chill, and Alert are all useful against stealthy killers, but they are NOT necessary. Sprint Burst is VERY useful against stealthy killers. By definition, a stealthy killer will be able to get closer to you before you notice they're there. Sprint Burst will allow you to get away from them without being hit. Since most stealthy killers are slower they're more likely to break the gen and keep hunting rather than try to catch up to a sprinter.

Also, if you've seen a jigsaw box you should just assume that the red-shirted person crouching toward you is NOT Meg.

I mean the killer has a choice to use you as information or use you as bloodpoints. If you don't get your way than you can't be surprised about it..

If they wanna kill me okay, but it's clear none of them even seem to understand what I'm doing. I'm trying to find a way to establish communication with the killer so they get the message. After that whatever.

So that's what it is.  We're all dumb as bricks and dont understand what you're doing.

On the contrary, as every killer in this thread has said we'll kill you if you try it.
Add me to that list. I don't even care if you're running OoO, if you intentionally sandbag your teammates I will kill you and let them all escape. If you run up to a locker and point at it, I will down you right in front of the locker and then nod at it before I pick you up.

Those are scummy tactics, and they should be punished.
  • I don't get how this is a discussion. If a player finds an exploit he should get banned if he repeatedly abuses it, this is commonly accepted for most ACTUAL gamers.

This. If you find an exploit, you report it to the devs (not on the forums) and don't use it.

Hell, I almost got banned on my first day ever playing an online game, EQ1. A GM found me standing on a hill shooting orcs who kept pathing around the hill but not up it. I had no idea I was doing anything wrong, and since I was an obvious noob* he let me off with a warning. That was the only lesson I ever needed.

*Among other things, I was leaving the belts to rot because they were "worthless".
  • Right now you can rank up and only click mouse 1 on generators.

Well to be fair, someone has to play M1 simulator so the idiots who run around playing clicky-clicky flashlights can eventually escape...

Oh, and that's the best username ever BTW.
  • This is how I do it.

If you're not in the Dream World, listen for the singing and have two things in mind...  a hiding spot you can walk to, and a pallet or window that will take about 5 seconds to reach while running.

When you start to hear the singing, WALK to your hiding spot and watch the grass. He still disturbs the grass even though you can't see him. If you start to go to sleep, run for the pallet/window.

You don't want a pallet/window right next to you, though. Without addons, you have 7 seconds where you only see him intermittently. That will often be reduced to 5 or 6 seconds with addons. If you're hanging around a pallet waiting to drop it when he first puts you to sleep, he can fake around the pallet and smack you. If instead you time it so you reach the pallet (or window) right before he can hit you, you can start the chase in a much better position.

Once you're fully in the Dream World, he's a standard M1 killer so just loop him. If you lose him, try to stay inside his terror radius until you can break out of dream world. If you get out of the Dream World by failing a skill check, hide and creep somewhere else.

A lot of people recommend Self Care for this, but personally I prefer Bond. With Bond, you can get someone else to wake you up without alerting the killer. Technician is also useful for the same reason. However, Self Care is the only way to exit the Dream World if you're the last survivor and the gens are done.
  • Hag becomes viable, "nerf Hag" posts start coming in. It's the Circle of Salt.

Do what others have done, adapt. Half of learning how to Hag is learning how to make traps do that intentionally. If you're going against a Hag, expect traps to disorient you. Thats what they're designed to do.

Can you honestly tell me that if something like that popped up right next to you, you wouldn't react at all? You'd just tra-la-la through the forest and ignore it? No, you wouldn't. It would scare the crap out of you, especially knowing that a disfigured monster might leap out of it and eat you.

As for game balance, "oh, but she can teleport" isn't even valid. She can ONLY teleport to a triggered trap, she had to have predicted your movement and placed the trap in advance, and quite often she ends up facing the wrong way. The Nurse can teleport, the Hag only jumps between triggered traps.

EDIT: My Hag wants to be called "Hug" from now on.
  • All of these things are why i simply dont use Hex totems any more. Well, unless I don't have anything else.
  • Survivor

    Escape and Pip = Win
    Die and Pip = Draw
    Escape without Pip = Draw
    Die without Pip = Loss

    Killer

2 or more Kills and a Pip = Win
2 or more Kills but no Pip = Draw
Under 2 Kills but still Pip = Draw
Under 2 Kills and no Pip = Loss

Safety pips don't count. It has to be a Pip up.

Generally with killer the only "Draw" situation I get is "under 2 Kills but still Pip". If i got 2 kills in a match I've typically done enough to pip.

Same basic idea with survivor. If I've made it to the point of having a chance to escape, I've probably done more than enough to pip.
  • If I'm not mistaken I belive the nurse and the doctor lived during different time periods
I’m not sure. All of it is so vague.
Based on the backgrounds and default costumes, I'd put the Nurse between 100-150 years ago, and the Doctor in the 1960's to 1970's (around the time MKUltra was shut down).
  • They could fix it simply by adding "Any time spent in a chase near the hook does not count toward Emblem reduction".
  • When I'm playing killer, I put myself in an empty Discord channel and listen for the sounds of survivors breathing and whimpering.

When I'm playing survivor, I listen to the sounds of my friends bitching because I'm playing DBD instead of Ark, GW2, 7DtD, or whatever they're playing at the time.
  • I'm... not really sure what you're on about there, OP. Are you saying a 7-second head start is not enough time for you to get to a pallet? The only way the killer finds you in 7 seconds is if you stay at the hook.

Even if you just run in a straight line away from the killer, you cover 28 meters in 7 seconds, which means that when the killer reaches the hook you're almost at the edge of their terror radius. If the person you unhooked had Sprint Burst, they're 6 meters ahead of you.

So let's say the killer starts chasing you from that point, and you just run in a straight line...
10 seconds later, the killer is 22 meters from you. 10 seconds after that, the killer is 16 meters from you. 10 seconds after that the killer is only 10 meters from you, but the MYC timer is down to 23 seconds left.

You have traveled a total of 148 meters over 37 seconds from the unhook. Somewhere along that path there was some way of wasting the killer's time. A jungle gym, a pallet, the killer shack, something. All you have to do is waste 23 more seconds.

Or, you could have just sprinted away for a few seconds and then hidden behind a rock or wall.

Or, you could have two people go for the unhook. Both of you heal, and the one without MYC stays to distract while the other two run away.

The key thing is prediction. Both sides of this game have to predict what the other side will do. If there's an obvious path to run away, then maybe the killer will assume you went that way and try to cut you off there. Maybe they'll go straight to the hook.maybe they're chasing someone else and won't come at all.

In other words... Make Your Choice.

  • Oblitiry said:
Depends on my mood and what happens in a match tbh.
Same here. Though if I escape a chase because of a glitch I'll always offer myself up to be hooked. For example, i had a Myers down me next to the hay bale on the ramp down from the side of a harvester, and he couldnt pick me up. I immediately moved away from the hay bale so he could grab me. He downed me fair and square. I've also had one case where a trapper was stuck on a tree, so I let him down me and pick me up to get free.
  • Actually, if the killer is camping then Make Your Choice does nothing for them.

In order for MYC to trigger, the killer has to be at least 32 meters away from the hook when the survivor is unhooked. It takes The Pig 7 seconds to move 32 meters while standing, or 9 seconds to do so while crouching.

As soon as you unhook someone while MYC is in play, you get the "Exposed" notification, your character makes a hurt sound, and blood flows from your hand. At that point, you have at least 7 seconds to run and/or hide.

This also has a side benefit. If you know the killer has MYC but you do not get these notifications, you know that the killer is less than 32 meters away from you.
  • It's been that way since the Emblem system came out.

When any survivor gets hooked, all survivors lose 10 Benevolence

If the hooked survivor is rescued before dying, all survivors gain 10 Benevolence.

If the hooked survivor dies within 10 seconds, those points are refunded to all survivors.

Why? If you leave someone in the hook to die, you're not being benevolent.
  • Only if you get the scream effect exactly like the Doctors every time you step on glass, a car part, pallet splinters, stinging nettles or sharp rocks. Or the alternative; an accompanying pair of flip-flops that give reduced running speed with a chance to fall over because you lost one mid chase.

And they make a really loud "flip flop" sound while you're walking or running.
  • I kind of have three mains, though Hag is top among them.

I fell in love with The Hag from the start. I think part of it was that she was the most monstrous of the killers when I started playing. As a noob, of course I played her like a camping #########. Not much else you can do when you're too noobish to trap anything but hooks and gens. I learned and got better, though. I like that she's smaller and has more tactical gameplay.

The Doctor was my second favourite, for the opposite reasons. He's big and not sneaky at all. That gave me a killer to play when i didnt feel like being a sneaky chess player.

Then I added The Pig to my favourites. She's like a happy middle ground between the other two. She's small and sneaky, but doesn't require the advance planning that the Hag does.
  • IMO, they should do two fixes to the Chase Emblem category...

1.) Hitting a survivor before starting a chase (i.e. you found them crouched and hiding, or pulled them off a gen) should count as a "less than 15 seconds" chase. So 90 points for the chase, 5 for finding a survivor, and 55 for hitting them (points toward the Emblem, not BP).

2.) Hitting a healthy survivor with a one-shot ability should count for at LEAST 50% more Emblem points than a standard chase. I say 150% instead of double because the one-shot helps you significantly in other ways.
  • What is MLGA?

It started out as a very useful tool to check the ping in a match before the devs added that feature into the base game. During that time, it was whitelisted by the devs.

It quickly devolved into a method of blocking players and learning the identity of killers before the match started. It was then un-whitelisted.

You guys aren't looking at the big picture. Every bit of time you get back adds up.

40 seconds might not seem like much, until you realize that's a half of generator worth of time they lost.

Hell, stack it with Thanaphobia for giggles. Your keeping them injured longer, might as well ripple that effect to the rest of the team and affect generator repair time too.

Don't forget, there's still a possible universal healing nerf coming that's going to compound this effect as well.

Everyone keeps saying 40 seconds. But it's 40 seconds if you hit 8 survivors and let them escape. Who does that?!
When you adapt your playstyle to take advantage of it, it's more than 40 seconds.

There are up to eight unhooks per game that leave a survivor injured after the unhook. If you're nearby, they'll run off and SC. Even if they are healed by the unhooker, that gives you 2-3 extra seconds to get back to the hook.

Every time you hit a bodyblocker, that's 5 extra seconds for them to heal.

2 people at a gen? Slap both then chase one. Another 5 seconds, and often you can end up downing both because they run to the same pallet to heal/loop.

Chasing one person and see another nearby? Slap the extra and continue the chase, or just switch targets. 5 seconds either way.

It's not perfect, and i won't deny it could use a buff. It's not worthless though, and it doesn't get destroyed less than a minute into the match.

I'm mobile, so could one of you lovely people tell me what the mint rag does?
It allows you to teleport to any trap regardless of whether it has been activated, with a 15-second cooldown. It's really only for gimmick builds, but it can be quite fun.

To the OP, replace Deerstalker with Tinkerer and make sure to trap near gens. It's hilarious, tons of gen grabs. For best results use an offering for The Game map.
  • For the OP, what you're describing is a combination of inexperienced killers going up against inexperienced survivors. That will change with time. The tactics you're experiencing are not because of the specific killer, it's the player behind that killer.

The best tactic against a crouching Pig is similar to what you should do against Myers. Keep your camera swiveling. Look everywhere constantly. In contrast to the Myers tactic, try to hide if you think you haven't been spotted. If the Pig has seen you already, just run.

As for the Pig @Eveline is talking about, it seems like they just wanted to get a head pop and didn't care about the match.

For those who want to play Pig effectively...

The way a lot of people seem to play Pig  (tunnelling, camping, etc) makes her a lower-middle tier killer. Played properly, I'd call her a high-mid tier. Not top tier by any means.

Some people seem to think the RBT is her primary method of killing survivors, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The RBT is the Pig's game slowdown method, and a Pig who tunnels someone wearing an RBT is hurting their own score.

Get your first down, then trap them and hook them. Go hunt someone else. Now you have one person being chased, one person unhooking, one person running off to find a key, and one person doing a gen. That is a LOAD of wasted time,  even considering that the unhooker will likely get back on a gen while the trapped person looks for a key.

Don't put another trap on anyone until either the first one has been removed or three gens have been done. I always try to keep traps in reserve equal to the number of gens left to do, but it's more important to always have one person trapped.

If you see the trapped person, start a chase with them to move them away from the nearest box, but only commit if you know you can down them VERY quickly. I'd might even just slug them instead of hooking. That person is not doing gens so they're not your primary target, but slugging them will get someone else off gens and waste less time than hooking them.

You want to juggle it so there's always one looking for a key, one being chased, and one either unhooking or healing. As long as that is going on, gen progress slows to a crawl.
  • I love it when survivors are using UE to move everywhere. It leaves my loop traps untouched for chases.
  • I replaced Ruin with Sloppy Butcher, and im quite happy with that change.
  • So that's why when I teleport to them I can smack a person half the time
You can also use it to force a person to take the wrong way around a loop or at an intersection.
  • At the start of every match, keep your head on a swivel. Constantly look everywhere around you, concentrating specifically on walls and trees where he could stalk you while partially hidden. You can relax that vigilance a bit if you get confirmatiom that its not Myers.

Once you see him, run immediately. Put objects between you. Trees, walls, anything that will block his line of sight. If he's only getting little glimpses of you between trees, it will take him longer to tier up.

Assuming he's not using a jumpscare build, do not pallet loop him if he's in EW1 or EW2. Use window vaults when you can, and cut left or right to break LOS. He's probably more interested in tiering up than in downing you at this point. If you have Dead Hard and you think he's close to hitting EW3, take a hit while he's still in EW2.

Once he's in EW3, hide if you can. If he's chasing you, start pallet looping. Avoid window loops because he vaults faster; use those pallets you've been saving. Loop him til EW3 expires if you can. If you can't, try to waste as much of his EW3 as you can before you go down.
  • I see you are a fan of hag. Instead of picking them up, start to place a trap. It looks like you are picking them up and you can get a free hit. A injured survivor won't save if they know what is good for them. If you are not hag look at a wall before picking them up. Look UP asap after picking them up, don't spin
This, plus other killers can sometimes fool people by standing over the survivor for a second and then looking down.
  • I stopped using it a long time ago. I noticed that in most matches Ruin was gone less than a minute into the game, unless i was playing rank 15-20.

I'll use it if I don't have anything better on that killer, but most of the time my primary slowdown perk is Sloppy Butcher.
  • It's definitely AutoHAVEN, not Autoheaven. Gas Heaven is a map on the Autohaven Wreckers realm.

    As for Rancor...

    ˈræŋkər
    ˈɹæŋ.kɚ

It's a homophone with "ranker" and sounds similar to "tanker". I hear a lot of people pronounce it as rænkɔːr (ran-core, or "past tense of run"-"the central part of an object"), that's wrong.

Ran-car is also wrong. It's "kər".

But yes, I agree it's stupid.
  • I changed it to E instead of Spacebar, and it seems more responsive that way. It all depends on the person, though. I can't do a mouse button because my right hand was broken and didnt heal correctly.
  • I just go and look for gens/pallets to break because I want more points.

For both Hag and Pig I use M&A, NC, MYC, and Sloppy Butcher, usually with Ambush-related addons.
  • It would be nice if you could skin powers as well. Imagine The Doctor throwing out a wave of bubbling green sickness instead of electricity.
  • Decent survivors can play perkless and still win easily. Most killers cannot say the same. Survivors can sacrifice one of their 16 perk slots for a "useless" perk. Hell, sometimes I equip nothing but WGLF just to give myself a challenge and I play survivor solo.

Balance the game first and then maybe we can put a secondary effect on WGLF.
  • The clown issue has been in place a lot longer than "2 seconds". People were posting about that before Shattered Bloodline even came out.

    Predominantly Coldwind, Macmillan and Autohaven.

    The RNG is biased IMO.

The RNG is biased, because there are more maps in some realms than in others. Barring offerings, there is an equal chance for each map. However, the Coldwind, Autohaven, and MacMillan Realms have five maps each. Asylum and Swamp have two maps each, and every other realm only has a single map.

As there are 25 maps in the game, the percentage chance of getting any given specific map is 4%. The chance of getting a specific Realm falls out as follows:

    Coldwind, Autohaven, MacMillan: 20% each
    Asylum, Swamp: 8% each
Haddonfield, Lery's, Red Forest, Springwood, Gideon, Yamaoka: 4% each

Changing it so each Realm has an equal chance isn't really a solution though, as that will make individual maps within those Realms even less likely to appear than the single-map Realms are now. There are 11 Realms, so if each Realm had an equal chance of appearing, that would be a little over a 9% chance per Realm, giving a less than 2% chance of seeing any specific map within the "big three" Realms.

I wish they would start putting new maps into existing Realms, and maybe combining some single-map Realms. For example, Springwood and Haddonfield could be combined into a new Realm called "Suburban Streets". Some of the other killer-specific maps could be listed under a generic Realm to allow more map variety within the Realm, like making Treatment Theater be in a new "Hospital" Realm instead of specifically in Lery's Memorial Institute.

You may get a 4k, but it'll also ensure you get a comparatively low amount of BP, since hooking/sacrifices grants so much.

This. You'll get a 4k, you MIGHT pip, but you'll get crap for BP.
