If it means you employ tactics that you know actually ruin someone's else's game, rob them of any opportunity to even play and have any fun, or present you with a fair and enjoyable challenge? Yes, absolutely.
There is no joy or honor to be had from winning a game by playing cheap and disabling people from even presenting you with a challenge. That's not an accomplishment. I can't even fathom a situation in which it would be remotely fun to kill survivors when I know they have zero chance of evading me or challenging me in any way. That is like an Olympic athlete winning the Special Olympics. Did you win? Sure. Was it remotely fair or a rewarding challenge in any way? Not really.
It makes absolutely no sense why you would desire to derive such a surface level of enjoyment, while knowingly ruining the game for other people.
I don't desire to ruin the game for someone else, but I will employ tactics that helps me win the game.
If I see another Survivor after downing one, I'll chase after them, If I could get them both downed, that makes is so 50% of their team is incapacitated and they're forced to come and save them or have them sacrificed.
If I see someone unhooked in front of me, if I play a Killer that can shut off their terror radius, I will do so and then down the person who was recently unhooked to deny their Borrowed Time. If there's an Obsession, I chase after the unhooker, if there isn't, I put them back on the hook. It's not my fault the person who was unhooking was being irresponsible, that's not me ruining the game, that's me aiming to win.
I like to have games where 0 to 1 gen gets done because that means I got rewarded for absolutely dominating the Survivors, I got rewarded for being efficient at Killing them. I can also toy with them if I want more bloodpoints, but that's just me doing my job as a Killer.
If that is "unfun" for you, maybe you should play another game that doesn't incapacitate you if the Killer is playing the game efficiently. Because not every game will always end up being "fun" for you, because fun is subjective. I play this game to win, because winning is fun. If a Killer kills me, I get frustrated at my TEAMMATES for not being there to rescue me. If they outplay me, I congratulate them.
I understand if you don't have a competitive mindset, this game certainly wasn't marketted as anything other than a casual horror party game.
But some players do, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's just a game after all. And sometimes you won't have fun playing with other people.

But to get that he would have needed to end 2 separate chases with the obsession, plus waiting out PWYF's cooldown. That's a game-throwing amount of wasted to just to land 1 hit more easily.

Tombstone Myers can straight-up murder people without losing tokens. "Offensive Action" is a weird term for it, but even though it can technically damage, I would still say that the redeemer is closer to Doc shocks and clown bottles, a means of securing a hit rather than the hit itself.
I know it's not consistent, but I think an "Offensive Action" is anything that injures or downs a Survivor, moris don't count towards that.

Gen rushing cannot be compared to any of the behavior being discussed in this thread. Its not remotely comparable. So I'm not sure why you'd even bring it up. Running out of tunneling arguments?
I, and every other survivor who doesn't feel like rewarding unskilled players with mutliple hooks, WILL continue to suicide and move on. Because just like camping and tunneling, it's well within the confines of the rules to do so.
No one said anything about disconnecting. Again, just running out of things to talk about?
And no, expecting people to play a game fairly so that everyone can enjoy themselves is not your favorite buzz word: entitlement. It's what normal, empathetic grown ups give and expect when they approach pretty much any aspect of their life that involves interacting with other people. You clearly lack empathy and any interest in winning a game fairly or enjoying a match with others. That's fine. Treat actual human beings like NPCs and play the sweaty, toxic matches of your narcissistic dreams. :)
Just don't come here and cry when people check out of your sweatfest and post the very true complaint that that play style is cheap, absurd, and ruins the game for the majority player base in this community. 👍️
I will just say this, not really anything related to the previous topic and discussion but...
Some people play this game to win, so that means doing the most "boring" tactics possible to easily secure a win.
Not everyone has to care if the other side has fun or not, I know I just play as optimally as I can without really thinking about on whether or not the other side has fun.
This has nothing to do with empathy, it's just me and several other people playing to win.
DBD isn't a competitive game, yeah, it is casual to the core. But a lot of people, myself included, play to win, and is there really something wrong about that? Wanting to win in a video game?
-
It's technically an "Offensive Action"
-
You got that wrong.
It's called "Aim Dressing".

I can argue the opposite. It's not the killers fault, it's the survivors who unhooked. If the killer is close enough to even catch you straight off the hook, than the blame should be placed on the survivor who did the rescuing, especially without BT. They basically farmed you for points. Can you really blame the killer if you're pulled off hook in their face, and the rescuer doesn't at least take a protection hit, instead sprinting to the nearest pallet?
Now, I'm not saying hardcore tunneling doesn't exist, and is a pretty unfair playstyle around it. I understand in a lot of cases killers will tunnel, simply for the sake of doing it. But on the other hand, I feel at least part of the blame comes down to survivors not knowing when or how to safely rescue somebody.
Yeeep, that's why I never blame the Killer, I always curse my teammates every single time instead.

Can you explain what is fun about versing him? You like just mindless dropping pallets instant? Or that you got "outplayed" by fake pallets? U lik the slowdown forcing you to hold M1 longer or forcing you to wake up? Or do you enjoy the most when you can't finish a gen and he teleports to yours across the map to pop your 95% finished gen with pop goes the weasel?
Explain, I'm seriously curious why this kilker is fun to you.
I like having a constant threat or paranoia when facing a Killer. Especially during a chase. There are exceptions to that rule, like The Trapper (Since I don't like getting one-downed because I stepped in an unfortunate trap)
What you're describing to me is a typical game of how a game against a Killer should be, they should get the drop on you if you're not paying attention to fake pallets, they should get the drop on you if you're mindlessly dropping pallets (because news flash, snares aren't that big of a threat), they should force you under constant pressure just with their powers alone, that's one of the reasons I personally like versing Hag and Plague, and you could relieve that pressure from you, but under the risk of not getting anything done for a short while, and under the risk that he might pull you back in making all of that time wasted.
Also if a Freddy pops your generator, and he finds you immediately after, that's 100% on you and your team, and not on the Freddy. Pop has great synergy with Freddy, anyone with half a braincell knows that, so why wouldn't they use that if they want to win?
That's like saying Demogorgon shouldn't use STBFL because he can save stacks with his obsession by using his shred instead, or Nurse shouldn't use Shadowborn because an increased FOV is really useful for her especially during blinks, or Doctor shouldn't use Distressing/Monitor and Abuse because a larger Terror Radius benefits his power, or the Oni shouldn't use Infectious Fright because his snowball potential is really high.
You're quite literally asking why a Freddy uses Pop, is that boring to you? Is the meta for Killers stale? Because I sure as hell could say the same with certain Survivor perks.
If a Freddy gets Pop Goes the Weasel, that means someone got downed, if he gets that OVER AND OVER, that means your team is losing. If your team is losing, your team needs to get better at the game. I've had multiple games against Freddy where all 4 of us escaped, in solo, and some even used Forever Freddy. Just because you don't find yourself having fun versing a Killer who puts a constant fire under your ass, then I'm sorry, but you're not always going to get games against an add-onless Wraith.
I'd say with the start of Rework Freddy, the Killers are finally catching up to how they should've been all along. A constant threat for the Survivors with the ability to apply Map Pressure with decent Chase Potential. I mean, isn't The Doctor also being seen as boring by the forums lately? He has the same things Freddy has, fake pallets, a power that stops you from using a pallet, and the ability to regress generators with the right build. He also puts constant pressure under you with his Madness, which he can easily constantly reapply with Static Blast, which also reveals your location if you're not hiding in a locker or outside his terror radius.
People don't find him boring because of his kit, people find him "boring" because it's an uphill battle to win against him, that's what the word Boring is used for anyways. It's a codeword for "Overpowered" except you don't have anything to back it up. How is Freddy boring but Clown is underpowered and needs buffs? They both do the same thing, in fact I think Clown is more effective at slowing down and downing survivors with the right bottle toss, and his screen gas makes it so it's hard to see where you're going, making it easy for you to disorient where the Killer actually is, making you incredibly easy to mindgame.
Sure the one thing he lacks is map pressure, but that's Freddy's territory. Not his. Clown specializes in downing Survivors fast and end chases faster, or entrapping a Survivor with his Bottle Throws forcing them to either suck it up or take a hit. Freddy specializes in punishing Survivors who stay asleep and having a constant threat throughout the whole map, not even generators are safe from him. That's why faking a teleport works, because Survivors panic.
Personally, I know some people prefer Old Freddy over Reworked Freddy, and those people have valid arguments as to why he is more fun to play as compared to how chase heavy Reworked Freddy is. But Reworked Freddy should be a baseline on how strong a Killer is. Do I think he needs some changes? Yeah maybe, have it so that the dream timer stops if he is chasing you would be a good one for me. Because it forces Freddy to get a hit in first before he can use his power or waste time waiting for everyone to fall asleep.
But hey, the original question is why is Freddy fun for me?
TL;DR, he is fun because he makes me cautious and afraid, I can't feel cocky when facing him and I know every decision and every second I make in a chase against him counts.

Yeah Yeah, I know all the ways of countering them and how they work.
It's tedious. That's my point.
PS. Sorry about the Pig statement, I should've been more clear. Free as in the addon + Jigsaw Boxes going wild when it's wrong.
I get that, I personally don't like versing certain killers either because they kinda force me to play in a way that isn't fun in my opinion.
Like Trapper. He is genuinely a weak killer but oh my god is his traps annoying.
I much rather face an Infinite Tier 3 Myers, at least I have a chance of escaping if my teammates knew what they were doing. Can't really do that with Trapper if you get unlucky and step in one of his traps.
Though personal preference aside, I think we can all agree that the one thing we want most when we play Survivor is to juke and outplay the Killer during a chase. And certain Killers does make doing that harder and easier for them, but that just means you need another strategy to beat them.
I just got off a wonderful, AMAZING game against Freddy while I was doing Kate's Sing Another Day challenge, and it honestly was one of the most fun games I've ever had in Dead by Daylight. Everyone was double hooked, I finished a gen at the last second and we all escaped almost losing a teammate because the gates spawned so close to each other.
A lot of things should've made that game a losing battle for the Survivors but we somehow got through it with a 4-man Escape, it was exhilirating and amazing.
I think the problem with Utility Killers, at least in my opinion, is that sometimes your teammates just refuse to play any other way making it difficult for you as a Survivor and easy as the Killer because they attempt to try and same strategies over and over again, which these killers definitely hard counter.
You cannot just ignore Pig's RBTs, you have to use that time trying to get it off your head.
You can spend time to run towards an Alarm Clock and wake yourself up against Freddy, but you may be wasting more time than you will probably get back if the clock is on the far side of the map.
And you can cleanse with Plague, but that will only give her access to her more powerful kit or you can risk leaving yourself one-downed as to not give her the power she wants to have.
It's all about risks, really, these killers force a second objective onto you and they pose a threat if you do not complete them in time or complete them correctly.

Be happy you can go back down to T1 these days. It was a lot more annoying when you could never go below T2 again.
Honestly it was a lot worse when Snapping Out of It was a healing action for the Doc. It basically means if he 3-gens you, you CANNOT get out of Tier 3 because he will smack your buttcheeks down if he has Nurses.
-
Wait wait, Pig gets free alerts if she uses her power? She only gets that if she uses an Add-On, which doesn't mean it's free.
Plus, I would argue it tends to be more of a hinderence to her than any kind of help, because patrolling nearby Jigsaw Boxes are always a good idea especially if a Survivor was recently unhooked.
Also, Tier 1 Madness isn't really a hinderence, like seriously, have you actually played against enough Doctors? Tier 1's skillchecks are not as frequent as Tier 2 or 3, plus they also don't really show the Doctor's aura near you meaning he doesn't have tracking over you. (At least last I checked.)
And you don't have to ALWAYS be awake with Freddy, if you're asleep, stay asleep until you need to wake up. Like if Freddy isn't nearby, then just stay asleep. Chaining both Swing Chains and Rope Swing (his two most "powerful" slowdown add-ons) only gets him 9 seconds btw, so staying asleep while he isn't an immediate threat should definitely be your top priority. You of course should wake up when you can, but when he isn't nearby, stay asleep.
Also Plague's pools are often out of the way and out of reach, even if she has that information on where you cleansed, she most likely won't go towards you because it's a waste of your time. She is only notified of which pool has been cleansed, but not where the hell you went.

It's mostly all about Master challenges. Many of them require you to ditch your main objective meaning that your whole team suffers. I can't blame players because some of them are almost completely unachievable if you play normally.
Sometimes they do encourage good match habits though, like doing totems when you see them or bringing perks you normally wouldn't have brought if it weren't for the challenge.

All perks of the teammates should be visible in lobby. It would reduce the gap between swf and solo.

That isn't really anything new, the community already knows that during events there will be three groups:

I tried to categorize each Mori Offerings into separate classes / categories!
Ebony Mori: Allows you to
potentiallykill all survivors before the Exit Gates are activated.Ivory Mori: Allows you to kill all survivors once the Exit Gates are activated.
Cypress Mori: Saves you time carrying the survivor if they are on last hook.
I honestly like that idea of the Cypress Mori, basically gives every other Killer Pyramid Head's basekit.
Also would make the Mori Daillies a whole hell of a lot easier without ruining the game for Survivors.
-
I'm heavily in favour of these changes, for both sides.
It would make keys less likely to be used during chases (which is one of the things I get annoyed about the most, since the Survivor basically has a free escape and if they are cocky, they can basically just mock you because you literally cannot touch them.) It also would make them fairer against the Killer who got a Survivor cornered, but they get a free escape because Key.
As for Moris, I like that idea. It makes it so the Survivors don't feel like they're getting robbed of Bloodpoints and Rank Pips, and it would be a nice surprise to find out that a Killer has a Mori without seeing the """"""""""""""Secret"""""""""""""" Offering at the offering screen. Plus, once they found out that a mori is in play, the remaining three survivors can scramble to try and finish their objective as fast as possible because now there's a possibility of gaining more Bloodpoints at the end of the match.
-
They look at a lot of things we don't have access to, not just the Kill/Escape ratio.
They look at individual killers, what perks are popular with which Killler, what Maps are the most deadly and which are the most safe for the Survivors, what rank each individual Killer/Survivor are at, and how much "Fun" the game was for both sides.
Basically to put it simply, a lot of thought is put into the balance decisions for the game. The devs may have done a ton of misteps in the past, but they definitely have improved upon their act with the recent balance changes. Especially since they're now considering a new mechanic that is similar to the Endgame Collapse, but for the early game.
-
Neither are fair, that is pretty much the community's consensus on this.
We all want Moris, Instaheals, even keys to be nerfed because of how much it can change the tide of the match with how little effort the other side has to put in.
-
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but Temple of Purgation has a ton of dead zones in the midgame if you can manage to drop pallets efficiently. Not to mention it has two basements. The Killer Basement and the Temple's basement.

676: No identical names
677: Toolboxes aren't permitted
678: Keys are banned from use
977: Survivors cannot rush generators (doing their objective)

Tier One isn't objectively better. It makes a loud noise more often which is a downside.
That isnt why Discordance 1 is better. The less amount of time a gen is highlighted is why its better. That means you know for certain that that gen no longer has 2 survivors on it faster.

If you wanna play stealthy that's fine. But don't act like that takes any degree of skill as Claudette. As Dwight, yes. As a character that literally disappears into darkness, nope.
And they don't have to save me you are right. In fact I SAY THIS ALL THE TIME. You should read my comments in other threads. The difference is they were planning to save me, but instead of acting with urgency and doing what should be done first, they run off and Self Care then by the time they come back another person is already hooked and the killer has come back to my hook. You missed your chance to be altruistic by engaging in very poor tactics. Tactics that are encouraged with Self Care, which is why it is one of the worst survivor perks in the game. It basically teaches you to be a bad player (same as playing Claudette in general).

They know they are ruining the game for the killer when they pick that character. Nobody picks this character because they like her. They pick her to have EZ camouflage. Anyone that says otherwise IS A LIAR.
Not to mention that as survivor all I even see Claudettes do is run to a corner and Self Care. So even as survivor they are ruining my game, leaving me to die on a hook when they could easily save me.
So because a person wants to play with a strealthy and selfish playstyle, they must be the spawn of satan? That's what I'm getting from this.
You don't have to always play as a team in DBD. Playing as a team definitely helps and works better, but some people prefer to be a lone wolf and only care about their own survival, and that is fine, they can play that way if they like. It is a game after all.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1319276#Comment_1319276
If you pick Claudette, there is no excuse. We all know people pick this character for the obvious advantage she has when hiding. Even the brightest Claudettes are harder to see than most other characters.
Tell me why I should "limit my disdain"? Claudette is a Claudette. Doesn't matter how they play, they are gonna die. Pick a respectable character if you want some mercy.
That definitely sounds unhealthy to me. You care so much about a video game to ruin the experience for everyone who plays that specific character? Wow.

What's unhealthy about wanting to kill people that play as the EASIEST SURVIVOR TO USE.
Hiding with Claud takes absolutely 0 skill and is probably the lamest way to play this game in every conceivable way. I'd rather get face camped by Insid Bubba in the basement than deal with immersed Claudettes.
Being obsessive about it sounds pretty unhealthy to me to the point of telling people who main the Survivor to effectively go screw themselves. Especially from this thread.

Stupid reasons to DC:
- You don't like the killer
- You don't like the map
- You're the first to go down
- Because 1 player DC'ed
- You can't catch anyone
There's probably a few more, but theres a lil list to determine what the player is like :P
Some people are just sore losers tbh. Idk why "Leave match" is even an option.
Giving someone Hatch is definitely one of those things that should not be okay reasons to DC. I don't think the devs like Tactical Disconnects and want to discourage that kind of play.

You basically have to not be in a chase while within 10 meters of the Killer. That's it. I think you also cannot be downed or be on a hook, you need to be healthy or injured and stay close to the killer for 60 seconds.

Tell me this, if dbd didn't have this much grind... what would you strive for? Why would you play the game? Don't you realise how quickly people would get bored of this game if you got maxed out perks straight away? DBD doesn't force you to do anything, which is kind of the problem. Levelling up and *if you're into it* getting all the perks in the game is pretty much the only dedication the game has. Ofc you can just play.. to play.. but that doesn't last long. I agree they didn't think their game through enough, since a lot of people have already left because its repetitive, but that's exactly why your idea is terrible. They already said they'll never add in a any mini games or anything (big mistake on their part) so.. yeah.. Back to my first question.. without the grind what exactly would you strive for in this game?
And yeah, I mentioned Ark because on an official server they genuinely expect you to not have a life. Raising a dino takes literally days, and you need to constantly look after them. If you go to work and come back they're dead. So yeah, I think DBD is pretty easy. Especially since they don't actually "expect" anything from you. They're not forcing you to have any perks or any add-ons, they're technically optional. They just want you to play the game whenever you can.
But yeah, you're not gonna change my mind. I don't have any issue with the games grind and unless they make a massive change to the game it has to stay otherwise it will quickly die.
The reason most of my friends have staved off of DBD is because of the Grind. That's the main issue I have with it.
It's hostile to new players because it constantly pits new players with veterans who already have all the perks in the game unlocked.
It's also hostile to new players in a sense that their progression is constantly halted by artificial barrier blocks that stops you from progressing because you haven't completely levelled up this character for their teachable, or you haven't found the one perk you want because the Bloodweb is incredibly RNG based.
Your argument that players are not "forced" to use any perks or add-ons is kinda up in the air when you consider that some perks are "necessary" to make the grind bareable or to be able to compete with players who only play with meta perks.
Imagine being a new Killer, wanting to experience DBD for the first time and your game starts with a Survivor Dead Harding to a Pallet, and then stunning you. Or, if you caught someone, they enter into a locker, stun you with DS because you didn't know DS existed, enter the locker again, then stun you with Head-On because you didn't know THAT existed.
New Players should not be expected to play against Survivors or Killers like those, the playing field is wholly uneven. And yeah, you can argue they just need to fix Matchmaking and they most certainly will, but I know some of my friends who are still in Rank 15 and have pretty much a ton of perks unlocked because they play exclusively on one side and dump their excess BP onto the other side.
Games like these should not be the norm. I should not have to play against a Killer who hasn't even gotten their essential perks yet to play in high ranks, let alone the rank they should actually be in.

Or you could not focus on ranking up right now if you're not able to be a good killer/survivor without good perks? The BP isn't even hard to get dude, especially not with the Archives.
What does this have to do with tiered perks anyway. You can still get those perks, but not the max level. And a challenge is what makes games fun. Not everyone wants everything handed to them.
I already have a Survivor with all perks in the game, and I have 3 Killers maxed out. So I already do have the good perks I could ever want to use.
However, that still doesn't make the grind any less BS. Any game where you're expected to play roughly years (according to Waffleyumboy's math in my Grind Thread) to max out everything in the game without Offerings and without BP Events doesn't strike me as a game who has thought out their progression system through.
Most of the times, the perks at Tier 1 or 2 are completely useless like STBFL or BBQ. They aren't worth having at those tiers, so it would make sense to just rush until you get Tier 3, but with the RNG you may not even get to that one perk you want until you've unlocked every other perk in the game because the Bloodweb can sometimes drive you nuts with how little it actually gives you what you want.
The grind would be perfectly fine if Survivors shared inventories, because most of what Survivors spend their stuff on are useless add-ons that no one is really going to use. Or if Killers can borrow perks from other Killers who has another Perk unlocked. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to level a character 50 levels and not get that ONE perk that could make the build you desperately want to try out to be fun and useful.
But, judging from your Ark comment, you come from a different background when it comes to gaming, so I don't expect to change your mind nor do I expect you to actually take what I say into consideration. Grinding is fine as long as you're working towards something. Grinding combined with RNG + Items you will never use ever is just not fun. It's tedious and it makes me not want to experiment outside my meta builds, because I need to get Bloodpoints so I can progress my Killers and Survivors so I can have the builds and add-ons I want to have actual dumb fun in this game.

Lery's, SpringWoods, Hawkins, Cowboy Map, The Game: Are we balanced to you?
Actually Dead Dawg Saloon is arguably one of the more balanced maps in the game imo.
The Saloon can be a strong loop if the Killer hasn't bothered to spend time breaking down the walls, and the side areas are pretty interesting loop locations that aren't just deadzones which is basically what most of the middle map is. It's a dirt road with not much in it, so it's more or less a dead zone, meaning generators that spawn on the road should be top priority.

No, its not. For a lot of people that is the sole reason they're not bored of the game yet - which is why so many streamers DO get bored of the game because they've already maxed out everything.
Whats the point in the game if theres no challenge or time investment. This game isn't pressuring you to be a certain rank or skill level, you do it in your own time and play it when you want.
Yeah, lets just expect everyone who plays this game to invest thousands of hours into the game to get the perks/add-ons they need before having any fun with the Survivor/Killer of their choice because of the game's unchanging meta. That sounds like a wonderful idea! /s
When the game expects you to grind for over 1000 hours just so you are kitted enough to go against players who has grinded for just as much time, that's a serious design flaw. Any other dev would say as much.

Why?
You're suppose to work for what you want. This would be so boring and have no sense of grind.
The grind itself right now would take everyone 1.5 Billion Bloodpoints to max out every character, that's just putting things in prespective.
It's completely ridiculous to ask for the players to grind literal thousands of hours just so they have a good enough build to experiment with on Survivor or especially on Killer.

I've personally been having games where my opponent is rather competent, but yeah, I've also been getting those kinds of games where either my teammates or the Survivors I am hunting aren't actually Survivors, but mutated potatoes that somehow has taken control of the Survivors.
