then im sure you agree with me on the camping topic. it is not neceserily toxic, but very unsporty and you actualy dont want to do it.

    #

    yep.

facecamping -> boring and unfun for everyone.

getting in the way when a swf swarms for the unhook -> totally fine.

Yeah, I don’t think so being hidden is nice but it’s more small in the potential game changing moments compared to COH. And this is why after the glitter of their initial release more people are just running COH. But, what do you think?

    Ok, that was acualy funny.

but t bagging for a heal allways seems like very aggressiv begging.

oh, also, I added to my original post. there are some more examples now.

actualy i do not. im not a big fan of perks that basicly have a one time/short time/both use. and blood warden isnt even both, it also depends on the situation.

    I was being snarky.

    sorry, that was vague.

fun story: I had a myers match where I was trying out "infinite instakill" Myers. I only got T-3 at the very end, and I mori'd a T-bagging survivor who couldn't leave out of the gates fast enough. the animation ended with their body tossed out of the gates, which was pretty funny.

fun story 2: see above, but I was playing nemesis and I had been on the ropes (the gates were open and I had 5 or 6 evenly spread hook states), and everyone was coming for the save, so I camped a little. after getting saved (I left the hook because camping is boring), they T-bagged at the entrance to the exit gate doorway area (where the door is) and they DS-baited me... forgetting they were on second hook and I brought a mori. their teammates were good sports about it, and I apologized for camping.

    :)

I do agree about the healing thing. if it's done more like a greeting, it could also be "let me heal you!" if an injured survivor keeps running away.

That would be tue if they would go as soon as they see others leaving. but they dont.

sounds like you'd like blood warden.

I do it to wind people up, because it will normally throw people off their game. As for the exit gates twerks, I just like being antagonistic, but in good fun. DBD is just a game to me, so I don’t get mad at anyone who hits me on hook or t-bags anywhere, so I hope people move on from it as well.

also, as far as I see it, the first slap on hook (if it's consistent) is to stop the annoying screaming in the killer's ears. the second's to be toxic.

  • @MauriceMaverick said:

You see, i always said that teabagging is not neceseraly toxic. it is just a way to get the killer worked up so that he gets distracted and lose his focus. and i allways thought that camping and tunneling wasnt toxic either. it is bloody unfair and unsporty and in terms of points a shot in your own knee. But not toxic. what i allways considerd to be toxic is teebagging at the exitgate and kebabingbing (hittting a hooked or downed surviver). The thing is though for something to be toxic it needs a toxic intention, like "look at me im great and you are garbage" when teabagging or kebabing. And i allways considerd that to be the case most of the time. that was until i saw somebady teabagging a... wait for it... Zombie. "What the heck? why would you teabag a Zombie?" was my reaction. And it made me thinking: What do you actualy think or what is your actual intention when being toxic (exit gate and kebab only)? is it more like a ritual, basicly saying goodbye or are you just hooked for some extra points? Or maybe you are just legit being "you are crap i am awsome" kind of p erson. What is it that makes you twerk?

    T-bagging each other: greetings.

T-bagging while injured (to another survivor): pls heal

T-bagging the killer: "I don't need distance, I need to be cheeky"

T-bagging the physical manifestation of killer powers: "I'm dumb."/"mercy please."

T-Bagging Victor specifically: "I've chosen death."

    Edit:

T-bagging/pointing at a hook: "I must go, my people need me."/ "you've earned this."

    T-bagging a mori'd survivor's corpse/getting in frame: "Photobomb/"Hah, sucker!"/"Mori me Next!"

T-bagging while flying: "Screw the rules, I have hacks."

    T-bagging Ghostface (@TeabaggingGhostface) : see above.

T-bagging Pig: "Haha, trappeth go snappeth"/ "boop the snoot"/ "REEEEEEEEEEE"

What I’d do for Pig is just make it so that a given trap requires a certain number of searches rather than the key being in a specific box, and it’d always be different for each trap (eg. random order, but consistent number of searches needed to remove all 4). In other words, one survivor will get their trap off first try, another trap would take 2 searches, etc., but the order would be randomized each game.

    For example:

    1st trap takes 2 searches

    2nd trap takes 4 searches

    3rd trap takes 1 search

    4th trap takes 3 searches

If an addon is used for a 5th trap, that 5th trap is random.

    good idea.

The most important part of that was your having fun. Rank is more time spent playing that month. Its more of seen the same bs over and over and it starts to wear you out.

yeah, that's why I specified that.

It's great that I feel like I get bragging rights for the level I play at, but I honestly don't care about that. I have no delusions I'll go pro or anything. it's a videogame, and I play to have fun.

I do feel like I understand the wearing out thing though. I've made sure to pace myself with playing.

  • I'm not sure how to interpret that since I don't know what time it was.

However, I don't need or want any more information about a stranger's child, so...

    let's stop discussing this now.

did he play a second demo game to get the final shred?

I'm not sure about the teasing thing, however. personally, I don't do that stuff as a survivor, but I don't really mind it as killer.

I mean, I got to rank three-ish in the time between the 5th anniversary and MMR being implemented, and I currently have one or two TTV's in a standard lobby.

You idea of fun, isn't everyone elses idea of fun. In fact, with regards to what you wrote about game balance, so if people find it fun, then it's balanced? Then here is a wake up call for you, the majority of all of those who play killer, find the game to be incredible unbalanced, frustrating and stress, quite to the contrary of fun. The enjoyment people get out of playing the game, is often reflected by the state of game's quality, balance, mechanics and overall state of the game. So no, the game is most certainly not balanced, it's heavily balanced in favor casual survivor mains and survivor try hards, and guess what, that's clearly and consistently observable in high mmr, which also is reflected by the volatile nature of match outcomes.

As for your "getting in character" recommendation - there isn't such a thing with this game, it's not an rpg. Besides this, survivors most of the time play extremely competitively, so if you try to play "in character", you're gonna get punished for it.

no, I meant the perception of balance. if your players feel like a game is balanced, they'll have fun, even if it isn't balanced. the thing with dbd is that the perception of balance is more precarious since if one player feels like they pulled something amazing off, there's a chance the other person will feel cheated.

obviously, people have fun in different ways. (if you read any of my other posts, I'm sure you'll see my constant talk about that)

as for getting in character, I do it, it's fun, and I like it. it was just a piece of advice.

I don't mean to sound belligerent, and I hope that clears things up. :) gl in the fog!

Honestly Killer has become so outrageously unfun the last six months that dailies are the only way to get me to play a Killer. I will do whatever it is I need to do, and then dip. You can have your four man escape. I just want my 4 hatchets/exposes/tier ups/whatever and then get out.

If survivors whine about how that's not fun for them, WELCOME TO MY WORLD.

sorry you haven't been having fun...

faster Q times for me, I guess.

I actually only started playing during the 5th year anniversary, but I'm having lots of fun, and I'm getting pretty good if I do say so myself.

  • @Sideralkchudo said:

I've seen some posts here and on other sites saying, in summary, that playing killer is currently boring and "unbalanced" (I don't know why an asymmetrical game has to be balanced LOL), but as a killer main, I usually got 3k or 4k in each match, and when I play survivor, it's the opposite, I rarely escape the match ( unless the killer camp or tunnel me of course). Even some times I think the killers say that because they don't like to lose in this game.

It's fun, it's usually perceived as being balanced (which, as any game designer will tell you, is much more important than actual balance), and it's thrilling. I highly recommend getting in character.

as for difficulty, it really depends on the survivors and which killer you're playing, and your skill with the killer.

playing no-blink nurse against an optimal swf? hard.

playing legion against people who don't know how to mend? walk in the park.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

Those only play to ruin other players fun. Nothing more.

But dont worry, some Killer Main will probably tell you some sob story why they facecamp during double BP-Events. Maybe some SWF stole their puppy or something like that. Because I learnt in this forum that only Survivors are terrible persons, Killers only do it because Survivors did something to them before.

what are you talking about, that's just slinger's lore, right? I thought he was John Wick.

  • @NoOneKnowsNova said:

Competitive could have things like increased bp, mmr, a perk pool for survivors (maybe each perk can only be used twice between all four survivors) and possibly the strongest maps and add ons for both sides removed.

Casual could simply be no mmr, free use of perks, add ons and all maps can appear.

These are just general things that I'd presume would be used in the case dbd decided to split into two separate queues.

This thread isnt about if it would work or not, but rather theoretically, if dbd split between casual and competitive, and they worked like this or something similar, what would you play more often?

for me DBD's much closer to D&D than an Esport. Sure, you can kinda win, but I've always thought the game's more fun when storytelling through game mechanics is the focus.

How is the game even fun for these guys? Just standing there like idiots from hook one.

They don't even make good BPs, and finish the match with 1 or 2 hooks. What's the point?

    no clue. camping's boring.

it's different if leaving would be stupid (for example, if your entire team keeps rushing the hook and trying to unhook in front of the killer) , but the "I'm going to hit you on hook and have a staring contest" thing is annoying.

  • @ImBrakingBike said:

    DC Button.

If you have an emergency, just close the whole game and go sort that out!

But honestly, the dumbest thing is that there's still no way to differentiate between different reasons for disconnecting. Hasn't happened to me yet because I'm average MMR, but I've seen high MMR players DC because of hackers and it's just dumb that they end up being punished while the hackers jump right into the next game. Makes little sense.

    right?

there's a ping tracker built in, and as far as I can tell (based on a poll I made), people are generally just mildly annoyed when their teammate DCs.

  • @Seiko300 said:

    It's Horror.

If you're not taking the time to actually think about that, I really don't know what to say.

Think about what the purpose and intention of Horror actually is, not only to hopefully scare but also to make your audience uncomfortable, and present them with unsettling ideas, scenarios or circumstances.

For example in Alien there are a lot of references and parallels to Sex, Sexual imagery, and #########. The Facehugger which latches onto a victim's face and forces itself down the throat of the victim, strongly suggestive of oral #########. Does this deliberate creative choice make light of ######### victims and the fact that people have been raped in the past? No. But it does use this disturbing reality to amp up its horror elements, and make everyone in the audience, both women but also men extremely uncomfortable filled with ideas reminiscent of violent ######### and unwanted "pregnancies" (of Alien babies). Things that many men often (though I am not downplaying the experiences of men who have been raped) don't typically think about.

In the 2002 TV documentary The Alien Saga, Alien screenwriter Dan O’Bannon explained, “I’m going to attack the audience. I’m going to attack them sexually. And I'm not going to go after the women in the audience, I'm going to attack the men. I am going to put in every image I can think of to make the men in the audience cross their legs. Homosexual oral #########, birth. The thing lays its eggs down your throat, the whole number."

I don't see how this analogy is any different from the situation with Leatherface wearing Claudette's face. Although it's certainly possible the nearly-all-if-not-all Canadian developer team at behavior didn't think about this, if they did I have no doubt it would have been the same thought process. Taking something that's painful, taboo, that can potentially be socially awkward to talk about, controversial even, and using it to fuel the Horror in your story is, at least I believe, one of the most important aspects and powers of horror. It forces an audience to confront their fear about a thing, and potentially even to overcome it.

It's cliché to end on a quote, but I really like these two from Director Wes Craven

"I like to address the fears of my culture. I believe it's good to face the enemy, for the enemy is fear."

"Horror films don't create fear. They release it."

P.S. I maintain Dead By Daylight is a horror themed game, if not an actual horror game. Fight me.

why would I fight you on a point I agree with?

I think DBD is much closer to D&D than an esport. it's at its best when it's telling unique horror stories. it's kinda scary, but it's not a horror game. it's an homage to horror.

  • I personally don't have an issue with the concept (the idea of Bubba wearing people's faces as masks makes perfect sense), but the fact it is used for racism is an issue.

that said, it's the internet, and there are always going to be dipwits who somehow think being racist is akin to being clever or is in any way tolerable or mature. now, I'm not saying it's not an issue that people are using it to be racist, just addressing the fact those people almost certainly would've been scummy anyways.

TL/DR - the cosmetic is fine, the associated racism isn't.

    that's my take, at least.

My one pet peeve I have with Boons especially Circle Of Healing is that Inner Strength or Inner Healing is not only significantly weaker than Circle Of Healing but you are discouraged to use it because it gets rid of totems for people to bless totems. I know it’s only one perk but Inner Strength is such a great perk design, it’s not the strongest healing perk before Circle of healing but it’s definitely a fun perk to use. It helps counter perks like NOED and other hex perks. It has a decent amount of uses but is also balanced in a way that it’s not an infinite amount. It just sucks to see a perk be completely out done by another perk which seems to be a common occurrence in dbd despite the devs denying so.

yeah, coh shouldn't allow for speed stacking.

  • @Yords said:

Only have the hex totems light up until they start to get used.

I think that would slow the game down a healthy amount.

Edit: maybe also a small, passive buff for each dull hex totem? it would give people reasons to change up their builds more. it would have to be a tiny buff, but still enough to warrant cleansing dull totems as a survivor.

    Heres my ideal

Survivor aura reading part of kindred becomes basekit, but if the killer is within 16 meters of a hooked survivor for 10 seconds survivors (and killer) get a sound notification and an icon that doesn't disappear until the killer exists within 16 meters of a hooked survivor (there are more details I would add to it but thats just the basic form)

The perk itself is changed to be

Shows you the killers aura when they are within 16 meters of a hooked survivor

Shows all survivors the killers aura if they are within 16 meters of you while you are hooked

If the killer is within 12 meters of you while you are hooked all other survivors get a 6/7/8% repair speed bonus

No more killer aura reading without the perk but the notification does help survivors know when a teammate is being camped to go do gens or to go for save when they aren't

I like this until the gen speed thing. if someone's camping, genrushing is the counter already. also, it could be abused by having one person go loop near the hook.

The unnecessary story: my friend has an account that he let's me use but picks out the characters and such being as it is his account after all. Well he for some reason likes the Twins, and I struggle a bit with them.

The necessary part: so when you play the Twins, do you use Viktor mainly as stealth for Charlotte to pick up on with killer instinct, or do you mostly use his attack and hope Charlotte can get there before they crush him? Or a third option?

lots of people use victor for snowballing by getting injured states using charlotte, and then switching to victor. this forces slugging, but generates a lot of pressure.

what I generally do, is to walk charlotte to an area, and then send out victor to scout. once I secure a pounce, I'll go ambush the injured survivor, or I'll go ambush someone highlighted by killer instinct.

at loops, you can use victor and charlotte to set traps by looping and switching between the two for surprise attacks.

as far as I can tell, my playstyle isn't the most popular one among twins players, but I have a lot of fun with it. it may not be as glamourous as crossmap pounces, but it works for me, and it's a blast. a lot of the time, I just play them as a tag team and play it by ear.

also, if you want to get victor downs, slowing down healing is a must because otherwise, people will heal downed survivors before you can go pick them up.

@PixelBush also as some guides on YouTube. (here's the first one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZE3CuWn5LeU)

Don't sweat it, I've been playing for years and don't feel any anxiety about this game. I'm the guy that tells other killers how to not get stressed.

One of the secrets is just doing your own thing sometimes. Also get revenge whenever possible.

But seriously, I'm more concerned about survivors treating new players this way. Embarrassing.

    absolutely. I totally agree.

sorry I missed the joking tone.
