  • Isn't one of the rules of the internet something like 'gamers will optimize the fun out of gameplay'?

  • In fairness, and feel free to disagree with me about this, but if a player (killer OR survivor) commit their entire build to doing something, they should have a high likelihood of doing that thing. For example, if they are running Boil Over, Unbreakable, No Mither, Soul Guard they SHOULD be practically impossible to slug. The same if a killer uses Ruin, Undying, Pain Resonance, Corrupt Intervention they SHOULD make it very difficult to finish gens.

Unfortunately the buff that Boil Over got is too much, and they probably knew that, but at the same time we cannot change the meta without putting powerful things in it TO change it.

See, that's why I'd go Gascoigne. You have the whole furry monster phase 2 (and he's pretty damn big and bipedal), and it's also pretty iconic being the first major boss in the game.

We could always do with more strings-based chase music, too.

Father Gasoline is a good choice as well, he could be interesting with an oni style power perhaps?

  • I would say a blood beast from Bloodborne, its pretty iconic being the first enemy the player faces (and dies to, usually)

It also has some pretty nasty skins, like the skeletal blood beast.

Could be a good demogorgon kit replacement if they wanted to recycle it.

  • Myers is listed as hard because of his addons moreso than his base power. His addons modify his power the most probably of any killer in the game at the moment.

Wraith is listed as intermediate because while his power is simple on paper, it has a few nuances in conjunction with other systems. Particularly how the lunge mechanic works, and how he is one of 2 killers that can be light burned.

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

In game development, no. It is not a coincidence. They think of how new gameplay elements will interact with old and often try to sell the solutions to problems ahead of time. The fact that this has not been addressed by them proves it. And I am one of the few that actually thinks this is fine. But it is QUITE obviously a community concern.

Honestly I would have thought the same, but the devs would have known the Spirit changes were coming down the pipeline, but gutted Stridor anyway. So it honestly makes this situation feel more like an accidental stroke of brilliance than anything done intentionally.

  • I think it ultimately depends on what time you find yourself playing the game. If you play during what is considered "peak hours" then MMR can work fairly well. Although it struggles now because everyone is starting to get to high MMR and thus you have this problem that old red ranks had where 100 or 10k hours, they are all the same rank.

However if you play late at night or "off peak" then MMR goes completely out of the window anyway and you'll just get whoever is available, first game survivors or reborn survivor gods with 10 trillion hours. Which, afaik, has always been the case really.

I think the problem is that over time the average skill of both sides has risen, but as the goal post of skill changes it starts to reveal some really glaring balance issues that are/become increasingly problematic.

  • Autohaven totem spawns are always in the LT walls, on hills, or rocks. There is really no good place to put them.

  • I got them just now when I checked in, at least I'm pretty sure thats what the 6k iri was for.

  • @Brokenbones said:

It's weird how nobody seems to play her anymore, she was super popular pre-stridor nerf. Did many people really just play her for the fact she had no real counterplay and had stuff like Stridor?

Honestly, I'm still upset about the stridor nerf because according to the devs their own dev build is far ahead of the live, or even PTB versions. So the devs would have known the spirit changes were coming, but gutted Stridor anyway so now its completely worthless. If I don't get 4x iron will at high MMR I'm completely shocked.

  • I came back myself after about a month or so of not really playing to try the event out. Loaded up spirit because I have about 50 envelopes on her from last year, for the cosmetics.

Never in my life have I been drowned in so much sweat. It got to the point where I just went into the match with the offering and went afk for the cosmetic only.

And now I'm back to not playing.

Congratulations BHVR, the game is insufferable.

  • I don't know why anybody thinks the PTB is for balancing or testing anything. (Despite test being in the name) All the PTB is for is hype. If you've paid attention, the dev build of the game is actually -apparently- far ahead of live or even the PTB.

They've already decided on the path, they are just waiting to see if the community kicks up any rocks on the way.

  • Cool idea, but I can barely stand to play the game when I play normally at this point. Its simply insufferable and oppressive. Getting my cosmetics and then I'm out again

  • Tried to come back after weeks of not really playing to enjoy the lunar event. Loaded spirit because I have about 50 red envelopes from last year and because I like playing her.

I cannot dry off from the rain of survivor sweat I have been put under. Flashlights, toolboxes, greeding every pallet to oblivion, protection hits, boons, high levels of coordination.

Really miserable experience that just makes me want to get my cosmetics and dip out.

Then why are you even posting..? Like dude if you don't play, what's the issue?

I can still want positive change for a game I used to enjoy without abandoning it completely?

  • The twins are good because they are literally 1 of 2 killers that can effectively camp while also simultaneously being somewhere else. The other being the hag. The twins are also vastly effective at mass slugging.

Camping is an incredibly, enormously strong strategy and they are not as punished for it as the majority of killers.

Presumably the reason people don't play them is because they don't like camping, or slugging. Or the fact that you get punished for using Victor's pounce well might also be a factor.

I don't play the twins because charlotte is ######### ugly as sin, the first thing I did after unlocking her was buy the funeral veil so I wouldn't have to look at her face. And the only reason I DID unlock her was for hoarder on pinhead otherwise I probably would have been happy to carry on with her unbought and unplayed.

If it's not worth your time, don't play it. Yeah you're right it's their job to create cosmetics. Playing dbd is not your job. Your time compensation is a matter of enjoying the game. If it's not worth your time, don't play. Pretty simple concept

I don't really play DBD anymore, just clear out the dailies every so often. Currently I'm actually getting into bloodborne, not to get too off topic.

  • I would say probably the best and most universally equal option is to add 2.5% instant damage to the kick, and increase base gen regression to equal Ruin (so the only difference between the hex and normal play is that the hex does it automatically.)

This would primarily achieve a few things:

    • Force survivors to go even in the time investment for killers to use the 'kick' animation
    • Cause 'gen tapping' to not ALWAYS BE the right choice by adding the opportunity cost of possibly getting that instant extra bit of gen regression
    • Allow more fluid back and forth on gens, making games last longer if played well without necessarily just jacking up the gen completion time in raw numbers.
    • Add an opportunity cost to Ruin in which you'll be unable to use the 2.5% instant regression, for the privilege of starting regression automatically. This passively buffs all other hexes and gen regression by reducing the 'peak' of what either should be.
  • @Fuzzels said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2763493#Comment_2763493

Also, yes. Time is valuable. Ya know what requires time? CREATING COSMETICS. it costs BHVR time to create that #########. You wanting it for free is essentially you saying that your time is worth more than their time. This is an incredibly entitled viewpoint.

Its also their JOB to make the cosmetics, they GET PAID for doing their job which is to make us, the community, a good game. Your argument is also moot because not every cosmetic can be bought for free with iri shards so the business is always going to make pure money from those cosmetics. So in this sense my time IS more valuable because I'm not getting compensated to spend it on DBD like they are as devs. Which returns back to my original argument that DBD is just not worth the time investment.

Especially when they say ######### like "Removing perk tiers would only kick the problem down the road, SO WE ARE JUST GOING TO ALLOW PERK TIERS TO CONTINUE TO BE A PROBLEM BECAUSE ######### YOU"

  • "its only a temporary solution"

So then the solution is to do nothing at all?

  • Honestly I'm surprised survivors aren't burning down the forums over the CoH """"nerf""""

  • Or you know, we could just start validating grabs completely. It should be pretty simple.

Were you grabbed while doing the thing? If yes, then leap into that killers muscular arms.

If no, teleport to your destination because of desync.

  • Iri shards and BP should fill up all those empty slots in free rifts.

    @Fuzzels said:

BHVR doesn't owe you anything. They don't need to, and are not nor have ever been required to gift you anything. They give free BPs, you can earn shards to buy cosmetics, AND characters, and they also give out free skins and other cosmetics frequently.

Complaining about not being given enough free stuff is incredibly selfish and entitled

This is a misconception. Just because you aren't paying money for something does not make it 'free'. You buy it with your time instead. Which is, arguably, enormously more valuable than plain money. There are, at this point, hundreds of games that are vying for our daily attention that give vastly more 'reward' for that time spent than DBD does.

Because everyone but WatchMojo knows that Nurse is Good™️

Nurse couldn't be nerfed until they fixed her. Which they just did.

Presumably this means now that her code is working... she'll be nerfed into the ground. I'm guessing she won't be able to blink through walls anymore, which is why they changed her 3 blink addon.

  • Once again the community makes better things than the real dev team.

  • Its probably going to be a nerf to their ability to camp if I had to guess.

I just hope in trade they make it feel less bad to switch between them, and using victor successfully (still the most absolute braindead change I've ever seen in any game ever)

  • Devs won't ever get rid of gen tapping because they like how it makes the gens more interactive or something.

So the best buff you'll get is (hopefully) instant generator regression upon damaging.

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2760069#Comment_2760069

    Yes.

Because here's what I think has happened:

When MMR first released, we figured out that the soft-cap is 1900 MMR points. Completely fresh accounts start at 1100 MMR points. For reference, Overwatch's MMR system is visible (mostly) and uses points. The lowest tier is Bronze, which runs from 1-1499 points. The highest tier is 4000+ points. These are very far apart. In OW comp, you get about 25 points per win. This means you need to win at LEAST 100 games in a row to get to the highest tier from the lowest tier.

It does not take very long to get to "high MMR" in DBD. High MMR is probably from around 1500-1900 MMR points. If the max points the Killer can get is 20 per trial, it's likely its the same for Survivor. So from the starting value of 1100 to the maximum soft-cap of 1900, it would take about 40 escapes in a row to reach. Not really that difficult. I don't know for sure, but I figure it's likely that the points you gain for escaping is more than you'd lose for dying.

So, tl;dr, the system was kind of working at first because it was mostly really sweaty players at the soft-cap or near it. Now that it's been out for 4 months, people have worked their way up the proverbial ladder or have been carried there. Meaning, 'high MMR' is basically just old Red Ranks. It means nothing, everyone is there. If you play the game enough, you'll get there. Which means it's exactly the same system as before, it's just hidden.

Actually its probably worse since the system emphasizes fewer things to "succeed" now, meaning a lower barrier to entry. So then it returns basically to this nebulous issue is anyone really smurfing? What does it mean TO smurf if the majority of the player base is "high" MMR. Presumably, in the end, it means nothing because ultimately the system is designed to abandon all semblance of intelligent matchmaking in place of convenience in an attempt to keep queue times low.

Honestly I have to tip my hat at BHVR, they've somehow managed to give birth to more chaos in their attempt at establishing order.

  • I've been having a lot of fun with BBQ, Plaything, Retribution, and Pain Resonance while running the Furin/Saya combo myself. The 10,000 IQ mind games you can pull off gives you a 5head.

  • The irony of the situation is that apparently the dev build is considerably farther ahead than the live build. So the devs would have known the spirit changes were coming down the pipeline.

Therefore there was never any reason to nerf stridor to begin with, and yet it lays there still neutered to this day. Leaving the only counter to iron will infection by Plague or Nemesis.

  • @Pulsar said:

Maybe we could look at why people hate MMR instead of punishing them.

I'm not excusing smurfing, but it's really just indicative of a larger issue.

Also, maybe make the MMR actually determine skill.

    @StarLost said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/305927/lowering-mmr-on-purpose

Yup. Smurfs gonna smurf. Honestly, this should be bannable - it kills your game for new players.

Fortunately it's a lot more difficult under SBMM than it was under ranks. It was so easy under ranks that even some fog whisperers openly admitted to doing it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2759873#Comment_2759873

That's exactly what people did. Just hard AFK from the start for about 10 matches in a row.

Now it'd take quite a bit more if you are high MMR.

In fairness, if all the skilled players are deranking in order to have an easier time, is anybody really smurfing?

  • Either you use regression, or you use gen blocking for delay. You do not use both.

Its fine that these two archetypes are mutually exclusive.

Sorry to say this but this person got it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2757416#Comment_2757416

How about the idea that survivors just got better.

More survivors understand that they have to play super safe against an Oni and not let him get the first hit to make him steamroll your team. On maps light Ormont (Mt Palletmont...) this is pretty easy and can be done even by a survivor like me.

Then longer Oni gets delayed with his power, then better for the survivors.

I agree that I do not feel Cycle of Healing that much. As most of my downs come from my power anyway this is not as much of an issue just as for Hillbilly or Cannibal...

Okay, thats cool and all but that doesn't mean anything related to CoH. Most killers can be countered, at least for awhile, with comp dropping every pallet. Thats not unique to Oni specifically.

  • It would be nice if you hit crows over X distance if it extended the time it took to dispel them. To incentivize high skill gameplay of the long distance sniping, which in turn makes each down cost 4 crows. Seems like a fair trade to me.

  • @TheOptimiser said:

That daily should definitely be changed, compared to other killer's dailies... Like Pinhead's one requires you to hit them with the chain 4 times, you don't even have to M1 them afterwards... Correct me if I am wrong, but this is what I remember it is... Meanwhile with Executioner you have to put them in cage, which means creating trails on the floor, forcing survivors to step on them, then downing them and putting them in the cage... I think it is a bit too much and unrewarding for what it offers...

Honestly what I decided to do to get through it is honorably duel the survivor for the cage. I took off all my perks and put down a length of torment and if they step into it, it signals the start.

  • I mean, my first thought is infinite face camping?

  • Do you have a loicense for that hatchet?

  • @ShinobuSK said:

And why is it 4 ? Dont they know that survivors evade trail like its lava?

Either that, or they sweat their entire balls off like you can insta-mori them suddenly just because they got tormented once and start comp dropping every pallet and pre-running everything.

I have two different main builds I run on survivor: either Windows of Opportunity, Borrowed Time, Empathy, and WGLF; or, Windows of Opportunity, Borrowed Time, Circle of Healing, and Shadow Step. I wish getting stacks on WGLF were more consistent. Some matches are full of daring hook rescues and taking protection hits and then other matches I'm the gen jockey and I stare wistfully at WGLF wishing for even a single stack. Not to ignore the faster pick-up speed, which doesn't get enough credit for how incredibly handy it can be.

As much as I'd love to have another competent teammate to play with, I wouldn't be able to. Between social anxiety and life in general, I'm that person who always says "maybe tomorrow." 😬 But here, I'll be funny about it and say I'm just too lazy to re-enable friend requests on my PSN account. (Salty players can't contact me at all, it must drive them nuts. lol)

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2757284#Comment_2757284

I like keeping my MMR low, so letting survivors escape is my preferred way to end a match. Not that it necessarily matters, the skill of the survivors in my lobbies is often extremely random.

Sometimes survivors will realize I'm friendly, but most either don't notice or don't trust it. I can't really blame them.

Honestly, despite many accusations, its because I don't want to 'smurf' I feel like I should get baby players as a last resort if I can help it.

I could not disagree more. Oni without Blood Fury is a powerless M1 killer, to compensate for how strong Blood Fury is. In the past, a good Oni could spread pressure and keep everyone injured, constantly dropping blood so that he can get Blood Fury whenever he wants. You'd take one or two powerless chases at the start of the match in order to injure two people, then use your power to down a healthy survivor. The first person you injure would be forced to go search for a teammate to heal them up, dropping enough blood to sustain power usage, leading to more downs and more injured people if slugs were picked up.

But then CoH was released. Survivors no longer need to search for a person to heal, they just run to the boon and heal in 16 seconds max. No one stays injured, because there's practically a bloody PokeCenter on any map with a boon user. And even if you find where the survivors are healing within the boon, they heal so quickly that the blood on the ground ends up being a trivial amount. A 16 second heal drops 4x 2 blood orbs, for only 20% of your power. So if you're not getting your power from blood on the ground, you're spending a huge chunk of the game chasing as a powerless M1 killer, just desperately trying to get hits to fill your meter.

I mained Oni since his release, and absolutely loved how he played. The CoH was released, and playing him is an exercise in futility.

You mean the 20% of your power that you have to activate with blood orbs anyway after getting 2 full HP hits on survivors? Honestly with CoH the bulk of your power generation now comes from fresh hits, and any blood that IS on the map is in one location, making it vastly more reliable to find. I have not noticed a significant loss in uptime in Blood Fury.

Basically doing the same lmao, the only exception is that i kill one guy at the end to keep MMR the same and don't be bored by face completely new survivors indefinitely

I just keep one killer with supremely high MMR (Huntress), this causes the MMR of all my other killers to go up passively. But ultimately I've noticed it really doesn't do much either way because at a certain point at night its whoever is on is what you get.

  • The first step is to increase your console controller sensitivity until you can handle it at max. I would say increase it by 5-10% each game until it is at 100%. This is because it is necessary in order to compensate for the lower turning rate compared to a mouse with a high DPI.

After that, its really about mimicking the motions of a mouse with your controller. LilithOmen? I think is the name, is a blight main that often records their mouse hand while playing, and could be good for you to check them out.

I totally agree with you and that's why I don't even bother throwing matches because unless you plan to throw at least 50 matches across all killers, it doesn't make a lick of difference. It's such bullsh-t and is why I'd like to know how much the MMR will decay by simply not playing.

Personally I've started only going for 8 hooks myself, I've found that its a lot less stressful right off the top knowing you already cut your burden by 1/3rd. And then afterwards with all that extra time I can usually farm up all my points. It also helps me meme around more with teams when they realize I'm not lethal despite the 8 hooks.

Overall, a lot more satisfying of an experience and when people are still sweaty despite how chill I am I just sit still and wait for them to finish.

  • Well in fairness, when this MMR was announced the dev's straight up said that killer MMR would not be linked to each other. However when it was released it was QUICKLY revealed that the /devs straight up lied/ and not only is all the killer MMR interconnected, you can never ever reduce your MMR unless you do it for all killers simultaneously because your highest MMR killer drags all of your other killers up to it and never the other way around.

Because of this I've literally stopped engaging with their MMR system by straight up never killing anyone.

And I have to tell you, it literally means nothing because at a certain point the system just widens its search parameters so you get sweaty/baby teams no matter how high or low your MMR is.

  • I would say buy bubba. For BBQ and if you own him before they remove his masks you'll get a free 6k iridescent shards. Also, of all the killers that you can buy only with money hes probably the strongest basekit.

Myers probably has the strongest addons in tombstone piece, judith's tombstone, and fragrant tuft of hair.

Pig has always been the punching bag.

Freddy is just... so boring. Like sometimes you can get some sweet sweet teleportation value, but it quickly loses its novelty. Sometimes illusory pallet trolling can be fun too.

Pinhead is... not very good. His main power is in his passive and his active power is worse than clown's in 99% of scenarios. However with that said, he is about to get his voice lines back. So if you really love hellraiser, or think unique killer interactions are cool then I would say buy him.

So if 3 survivors in a SWF BNP 3 gens while one survivor loops the killer all within the first minute of the game, that doesn't stop "early game?" The game is literally half over by then.

I, personally, don't trust the devs to make anything more complicated than that considering they apparently worked forever on MMR and it still just turned out to be escapes/kill are the only things that matter.

  • @Ryuhi said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2757455#Comment_2757455

Considering matches can take <5 minutes at times, having a concrete indicator would certainly help.

it should be something like "once one gen is done and/or 2 minutes have elapsed" or something.

IIRC the devs aim for the average game to end by 10 minutes. So presumably 'early' means pre 5 minutes, and 'later' means post 5 minutes.

  • For MMR the D/C counts as a loss to the survivor and a kill for the killer.

Its only when a survivor takes the hatch that the game treats it as MMR neutral.

  • I'm unclear what drops Kazan down. With CoH you are getting 40% of your power every hit AND with CoH all the blood is getting grouped into one area. So now you are losing vastly less blood orbs from them simply timing out, because you never find them in whatever random spot the survivor decided to heal. If everyone is full health, that just means you get more demon strike value. I would say, at worst, you need to manage your blood orbs and power a little more intuitively, but other than that hes really not that much worse off.

1 2 3 4 … 17
