So now we are left with two redundant options.
I genuinely lol.
-
If you are a gamer and don't know what dead by daylight is by now, you either don't care or live on the other side of the moon.
It's not huge but It's present. People that aren't interested have probably heard of it but don't entirely know the scope of it.
I played in beta, thought it sucked...quit...Then when they added licensed content (famous killers) started again and fell in love.
I believe there are a lot of people out there that would love it but just haven't quite been hooked. That little presentation was a very enticing ad for anyone who was on the fence, especially with a recent rise in popularity of certain licensed killers.

As a killer, if survivors can't blame me for their ping/latency anymore, does this mean survivors and killers will finally get along!?For most it'll improve things, while for some others it'll make things bit a worse and the ones that're going to hate it the most are the lag switchers, the hackers etc.
Living in CA, I have never had a problem with my connection, but there have been many times I have been blamed for lag switching, poor ping etc lol.
I am glad they are finally doing this. It's a good sign for the longevity of the game (plus it gives survivors one less thing to blame me for...)

@Attackfrog They removed "down vote" because people would spam with alt accounts. LOL has become the new "down vote" and therefore should be removed as well. If you're only option was "vote up" then they couldn't do this.Yeah I totally understand what they did....it just replaced down vote with lol.
I actually like the lol button because it gives me the ability to tell someone something is funny...succinctly...but I can't because people misconstrue it as "down vote" or " dislike".
Honestly, I wish they would change "awesome" to "thanks", because sometimes people provide helpful info and there is no way to say thank you without posting.
If they are going to have more than one option, they might as well diversify the responses and include a (respectful) negative one.
And please: let the author of the post see who gave the tic! I hate the whole anonymity thing..if you're gonna insult someone or disagree...have the balls to put your name on it.
-
Since there's no reward for any of those options, why does it matter?
To the point, though: having redundant "vote up" and "awesome" options makes no sense. They are the same thing.
Replace awesome with "down vote" and then people would use "lol" for what it is supposed to mean. Easy one-click opinions are more my style.

I never buy a killer right after release.
I wait for it to go on sale.
I also wait for the inevitable "balance" changes.
Then I buy!

I agree. Against good survivors, I get juked and outplayed. Against poor survivors, I barely have to pay attention and can 4k.
He is a very fair killer for the skill involved. Good survivors will loop him and juke his chainsaw.
I do appreciate harder killers though. When I am sweaty palmed and trying my best with spirit...it is almost always a 3-4k...as it should be when you have to really pay attention with the higher skill level killers.
When I am watching Netflix and lolligagging...I get owned as spirit.

I love the bickering!
In fairness.though, "killers" are entitled babies that cry for handouts...don't take them seriously!
There I had to fix that for you for fairness and equalities sake. You may now go back to our regularly scheduled forum bashing and entitlement reading. That is depending on which side you're on determines whether it's entitlement or just asking for qol stuff. 😁

This is the reason the ranking system needs to go.
If everyone were allowed to play with everyone, you would get a whole mashup of killers, survivors and skill levels...as well as instant q's.
I still have yet to see one good reason the rank system exists.

It’s really hard to find the good conversations buried in the salt contests. It would be easy to moderate too. I’m just sick of all the beef. I want to have a good conversation here.Seriously sometimes I can’t tell if I’m reading tweets from the Wendy’s Twitter Account or a DBD forum.
The problem is that we always discuss the same topics, most arguments have already been brought several times and its just a big repitition. Even the devs ackknocledge serious balance issues in the game (depip squad e.g.), but yet a mayor part of the community simply doesnt accept that.
As long as we have this survivor vs killer mentality, its simply never going to happen.
I started posting salty comments to instead of trying to respond with a thought-through argument since I know that im just gonna be trashtalked anywayI honestly love the "survivor vs killer" theme on the forum. It makes for a fun read and creates factions...almost in real life (because the humans behind the posts genuinely believe their side is underpowered)
Yeah...we get the kids posting some immature stuff, but it's the internet...what can you expect.
This game doesn't have the resources a company like Blizzard has so it has that "small town" feel.
My only concern is that a new person to this game (and probably the developers themselves) can't get any real info regarding balance, OP skills etc because for every comment that says "x" makes killers (or survivors) OP, there is another comment that says the opposite.
Luckily the developers probably have metrics that can tell them what is happening in game lol.

And what do you get when you take out the hunting incentives nerfing them and giving even more counters? You guessed it! Even more camp
this is actually a perfect example of that said entitlement. The devs add something to bring a little more balance to a problem and the result? Killers camping even more to protest not getting their way like a bunch of petulant children.

Bad killers use noed and noed activates against bad survivors. Bad survivors use DS and good killers suffer from it even though it's not in their control.I disagree and think noed is a great end game perk. It is very risky to take, because you are relying on getting to end game. For bad killers, it may result in 1 k, if they camp it after gates are powered (but again, good survivors will cleanse the glowing totem to rescue their friend). For good killers, it turns an early game 1-2k into a 4k, assuming you have already hooked the last 2-3 at least 1-2 times, which requires a fair amount of skill. I have gambled with it and lost many times on my doc. I have also gambled and won, and it is very rewarding, especially against cocky survivors tea-bagging in the gate zone.
And if you throw in a mori...even more fun!
This comparison between DS and noed is absolutely ridiculous and needs to stop because these two perks are incomparable at this point.
Totally agree! NOED isn't reactionary, resulting in a 2nd chance...DS is. There is no penalty or risk for taking DS atm. I think DS is a great skill for survivors, but agree with those that believe it should be earned during a trial...making it available for any survivor...at a cost.
Keeping it from a perk has many benefits, which include no more killer lobby dodging when they see a p3 laurie. Or ANY Laurie for that matter lol. Killers also won't need to slug a laurie anymore (well, any more than they would slug any other character).
Make DS available in game for everyone! Put a cost/risk/penalty to it and everyone wins!
-
Another legit post thread! You and @Justgiveup should be friends...perhaps business partners... with such well constructed arguments and insight about this game!
Or better: start your own game! I would DEFINITELY pay to play!
-
Someone had the idea of having DS open to everyone, provided they earn it during a trial (ripping out a piece of generator). There was a penalty attached to it but it was just a part of the game mechanics.
I really liked that suggestion (as much as I hate DS). There was a really good cost/benefit and it was really quite fair...great risk/reward.
NOED already has a pretty good cost benefit. If it were just a perk, it would be too OP...but being attached to a totem...you take a risk by using it.

The only time I camp and get a 4k is against terrible survivors (didn't Cleanse NOED totem even after gate opens, 3 people rushing hook with Myers in EWIII, etc...)
Otherwise if I hard camp it usually only gets me 1-2 k.
Sorry, but if survivors are getting 4k'd against a killer who camps from the first hook, they are really bad survivors!

The ranking system in this game is extremely stupid and absolutely pointless.
Just drop it and let anyone play with anyone. You'll get some games with noobs, some with try hards but at least it will be a mix up and nobody will be accused of "depipping".
I challenge anyone to come up with one solid reason the ranking system is helpful/beneficial.

TL;DR pls
Short Version. Survivors can collect 3 items to combine into a shiv. Once shiv is complete they can perform Decisive Strike action.
Base part of game version- You can see the auras of components for a shiv 10 meters away. Once the 3 components are collected it will take you 60 seconds to build the shiv. When grabbed by the Killer, succeed an easy Skill Check to automatically escape the Killer's grasp and stun them for 2.5 seconds.
Perk Decisive Strike- You can see the auras of components for a shiv 15/20/25 meters away. Once the 3 components are collected it will take you 50/40/30 seconds to build the shiv. When grabbed by the Killer, succeed an easy Skill Check to automatically escape the Killer's grasp and stun them for 3/3.5/4 seconds.
It's good because it might slow down the game, but i'm just guessing. I would need killer mains opinions about this to have a better opinion.
PS: i must admit that i came here expecting a riot.
Edit: this idea (crafting a shiv) reminds me of Last of us.When I play killer, I never really know who has ds or not (except a Laurie....especially a bloody laurie) so when it hits,it always feels like such a cheap shot....a crutch.
Making it an earnable part of the game is WAY more tolerable. The generator slowing idea makes sense and fits. DS would still be frustrating, but I know there is a tradeoff so it seems far less cheap when I know a survivor's gen speed is reduced because they used DS.
It goes from being a "cheap shot" to being seen as "ha! you might have cheap shotted me, but now it takes longer to repair gens".
WAAAAYYY less toxic this way. I am all for it!!!
-
I don't like the idea of crafting a shiv....it seems out of place. But I like the idea of earning a DS at the cost of something else, and being usable for all players (it actually prevents a lot of problems with the current system)
I like @akbays35 system. It has a very real cost to it and we stay away from it just being a crutch perk. Anyone can use it (which blows for us killers) but there is a real penalty so there is a solid tradeoff.
Only thing is I hope there is no way to tell if someone has taken it or not because 3 swf would probably crucify a solo survivor who takes it (thus costing them 8% speed)
Otherwise it makes complete sense to me! I really like this idea and it makes DS not seen like such a cheap shot!

My ideas for his abilities.. just brainstorming• "Death fog" - Creates a fog in a 30m(?) radius. Survivors caught in the fog are put into a first person point of view with their view significantly reduced.
Perks
• Death incarnate - After hooking a survivor other survivors are exposed for 8/9/10 seconds.
• For Mother - For 3/4/5 seconds after a survivor has done or attempted an altruistic action, will slow their movement speed by 25% for 3 seconds.
• Lambs to the slaughter - Once an exit gate is powered the other gate will be permanently shut down. The powered gate closes each time a survivor exits for 5/10/15 seconds.
These are super cool and I can just seen myself playing as Jason with those perks. I think they would be very fun and add new dimension to killers' kits.
The power i am 50/50 on...it just seems hard to come up with a solid power for him....I feel it may be better served on a different type of killer. But I just don't know what an appropriate power would be.
Maybe something passive to play off his M1 killer style (an extra perk slot?).

Your first point @Laddy is actually really good: Even if a survivor is camped for the full two minutes, they die and move on the the next game. It ends up costing them 2 mins, not a bad price to pay for being hooked. That's not much time, even for casual players.Laddy said:@Peanits said:
Not to undermine your points, but it's still a valid complaint. If you down a guy once and camp him until he's sacrificed, he's not going to have barrels of fun sitting there on the hook. You're absolutely within your rights to do so, but you still have to acknowledge that when all is said and done, you're making the game less fun for them. Sames goes for what is essentially the survivor equivalent; pallet looping. If you play in a way that makes the game less fun for the other side (even if it is within the rules), you can't be surprised if they're not happy about it.
I will totally disagree about adapting and overcoming, though. There is no way for that hooked survivor to do so. The other survivors can ignore the hook and rush the generators, but that still doesn't change anything for the guy getting camped. He can't just adapt and unhook himself.
Good points. I can see that for some people who have a more casual approach to the game camping could be annoying, especially at low ranks. However my response to your first point is that, in my opinion, from the way I view the game mechanics, when a survivor is hooked he is essentially eliminated. A hook rescue is skillful and commendable, but nothing more than a risky bonus. The aim of the game as Survivor first and foremost is not to be detected. As for pallet looping, it can be adapted to by the Killer by optimizing his chase routes and anticipating Survivor movements. It's all in the way the game is played.
As for the second paragraph, my first point holds. When a survivor is hooked he is essentially eliminated. Survivors have no entitlement to a hook rescue. If you get rescued great, if not it's back to the lobby to try again. The player adapts by not being hooked in the first place.
@twistedmonkey said:
While some of your points are correct in some ways you have to remember its a game played for fun, games are played in down time and some people may only have 30m a day to play, while legit its certianly not fun for the survivor and as a killer I can tell you its boring and not fun to do.Take into account this game is not just about rank, kills, escapes, imo its more about blood points, some do play for those though so I am not discounting them, its just the grind in this game is so emmense and camping rewards you with less blood points and also the one on the hook can get very little, by design its a bad play style to adopt apart from certain circumstances.
Survivors have to take some of the blame at times by not doing gens and getting out of dodge, more often than not they reward the action, this has landed at a bit of a slight fault on the devs with the emblem system, survivors need benevolent points and if a killer camps well it not only screws over the person on the hook but everyone else, this is one reason why the devs actively are looking at ways to try and stop it from happening.
Camping as a strat has its place, it is never going away and with everyone standing around the hook why would they leave? they are gifting you the kills, gates are powered again why leave? they are securing their last one, the only time I think to myself its a bit scummy is when there are 5 gens and the killer is standing next to the hook refusing to leave.
As I've stated earlier in the thread, camping isn't something that's optimal 100% of the time for every killer. For instance, the Trapper benefits from setting traps and leaving his hook to harass nearby generators. Another example is that camping is more beneficial late game than it is early game. With the varied mechanics of every Killer, it is up to the player to figure out the optimal Camp/Hunt ratio at different stages of the game. What bothers me is how Survivors get very hostile and toxic about something that is actually their fault, and worse, this attitude is widely accepted and encouraged. I'm merely attempting to re-balance the community's attitude and remind people of the way the game is meant to be played.
As for the boring part, I have to disagree with both of you. I think it makes the game more interesting. By encouraging all playstyles, it encourages the full utilization of the depth of game mechanics intended by the devs. Killers Camp or Hunt, and Survivors can be Altruistic or Solitary. It's a constant balancing act between both sides, and the most skillful and tactful side wins.
Thanks for the good replies.
If the survivor is consistently the first one hooked and camped (which means they probably won't earn many blood points) then, in a competitive game, they probably should "adapt" their playstyle because their strategy clearly isn't working.

as long as there is some kind of chance that the person could be unhooked and make an escape, then it seems fair. but ensuring they have absolutely no chance of any escape, any chance to play the game, any chance to attain any points whatsoever, then you've essentially making it so they literally can't play a game they paid the same amount as you did for. also, @Attackfrog, I hope I never see you complain about any survivor tactic or behavior ever or I'll remind you of that pointlessly antagonistic post.

To all the people complaining about camping:
"You can call me trash,
You can't change how I play,
Call me all the names you want,
I'll still camp you all day."
-AttackfrogHonestly, sometimes stuff is just frustrating. If you are getting hooked and camped to the point that it's ruining the game for you maybe change the way you play because you can't change the way someone else does.

Otherwise, if you find PvP games too frustrating, maybe try a different game because this one isn't for you.
