I understand why every killer cant be nurse or billy level..

But why can't they atleast be balanced around myers and hag?

Comments

  • They should be aiming for every killer to at least be viable at rank 1. Right now there are quite a few who aren't and they don't seem to have improved on this.

  • Well legion is the most op killer to date

Haven't the developers even said on livestream that they don't want every killer to be balanced around rank 1 plays?
Now that's a design choice that I cannot find logical.

  • Yeah they are a I'm in on what's fun
The problem is that's subjective and the devs fun might not coincide with my meaning of fun or others meaning of fun
That's why the problem I thought mentality they have themselves while thinking of "balancing"

They stated that themselves so, rip

I find it a little comical that they dictate "fun" by their own interpretation. A lot of "fun" for me and it seems many others is winning, as I enjoy the competitiveness of games. "Fun" for me isn't a carebear experience where everyone wins. Clearly this doesn't apply to everyone and that's the whole point. "Fun" is different for everyone so their base design philosophy is bad since they even said themselves that "strong" isn't included in their "fun" definition and that's what is scaring us all, as well as in itself explains a lot of bad design decisions they have made thus far. I also hate when they over exaggerate things, saying we want a strong killer does not mean we want a killer stronger than nurse/billy, it just means we want a viable rank 1 killer which is not unreasonable.

  • Yeah for me the balance is somewhere between high tier to mid high tier.

Nurse and Billy are too much and feel cheap. High tier is strong but balanced. Mid high is weak but balanced. Then you have mid low who need a buff and then you have low who is basically playing the game in hard mode.

    I disagree, to an extent.

This is not Overwatch, Smite, League, or any kind of competitive-focused game. While balance is a priority in an asymmetrical game, it's illogical to balance every single thing (like these games with leagues and a HUGE competitive scene) around the highest level of play.

If it's not competitive focused, it's logical to make sure all of your playerbase gets accommodated to, from a business standpoint also.

This not an e-sports game. It's something you pick up for your teenage child or if you're just interested in it yourself, and of course some people are going to grind the hell out of it, or play it mostly, and become really good. But fortunately, the entire playerbase does not do that. You cannot offset beginners with having Killers really, really hard for them either. Given how inefficient the Rank system is too.

In my personal opinion, it would be nice to have a new killer designed to be viable in higher ranks more often. It's not hard to learn the game anyway.

It should be competitive based. There's a reason so many games are doing that now, it makes money. Also has the nice effect of actually giving the player base balance.

"You cannot offset beginners with having Killers really, really hard for them either" Players leave games because they are too easy, very rarely is it because they are too hard. People learn to play better, you don't just lower the bar to them. People like a challenge. That said, this game is quite new player friendly in terms of difficulty.

"Given how inefficient the Rank system is too." This seems like what the real problem is.

If their aim isn't for the game to be competitive they should drop the farce that his their ranking system.
And stop trying to organise official tournament like the disaster that happen a couple month ago.

The only thing the ranking system bring to the game is higher lobby queue time for people that are actually playing there game and it's unacceptable

  • Then “weaker” killers should offer more bllodpoints
  • Why is there a ranking system, if the game isn't going to be balanced around it? For some being Rank 1 on a character that isnt Billy or Nurse WOULD be fun.

There is a huge discrepancy in both power and play style for killers is there really anything different from playing wraith and spirit? you're both going invis, getting a speed boost, and trying to locate or chase a survivor. The problem between these two killers is power accessibility and attack opportunity. Wraith always has access to his power, but he loses attack opportunity. Spirit loses power access but gains more attack opportunity. This is also a compounded issue with Trapper and Hag, Hag always has power access but trapper has to run around and grab traps, but here's the difference Hag gains attack accessibility when a trap is triggered, trapper has to depend on distance and rng trap escapes to get attack accessibility. That attack access is what limits a killer and nothing else. Clown and Huntress are the same way where they trade off attack access for ability but they are at the same level since their tradeoffs are comparable. This is why Nurse and Billy are such high rank is because their attack access is higher than other killers. Myer never losses attack access he simply gains stronger attacks as he uses his power with a timing window on EW3. This is another issue with Leatherface and Billy, both lose mobility charging their chainsaw but Billy recovers the distance whereas Leather face doesn't. Doc is the same, he loses mobility for his power when he's already trading the ability to attack and doesn't need a double drawback. This is now the issue with Legion and Nurse, both are high mobility killers that move through the survivors defenses at a quick pace, but Legion loses attack access when he uses his power. This is also why freddy is at the bottom, he trades all attack access for power and his power doesn't make up for it.

  • @akbays35 An interesting take and that makes sense. What if they actually brought the base killer speed down to hag levels and just made those killers powers a lot stronger? Would make it easier to balance and make them all viable. I suppose that would raise the low rank killer learning curve though.

As long as the ranking system and matchmaking exist, together with the occasional tournament, Dead by Daylight should be considered a Competitive game. And if the developers want this game to be Mario Party casual fun fest, then they need to start doing changes towards that.

  • The ranking system in this game is extremely stupid and absolutely pointless.

Just drop it and let anyone play with anyone. You'll get some games with noobs, some with try hards but at least it will be a mix up and nobody will be accused of "depipping".

I challenge anyone to come up with one solid reason the ranking system is helpful/beneficial.

When I started to play the game, I couldn't understand why people didn't try to kobe. I also didn't understand hook phases, sometimes I would die the second I was hooked for the second time, sometimes it would take 3 hooks to kill me.

This is one solid reason I believe.

Like Trapper with 5 traps at with insta setup and pickup speed at 110% ms? That or just boost their passive mobility if their power is dinky. Imagine Freddy with 120% movement speed. Rank 1 players would still just camp pallets. > @Attackfrog said:

exactly my dude, I play with swfs all the time between rank 3 and rank 15 and the rank 15s typically play better and get more bp if that makes any sense.

Yeah in other words killers would have to rely on using their powers to get downs. Whereas for example right now you could play say trapper and get 0 people caught in traps, but he's fast enough you can just run people down to get a few.

yeah, but if that's the case might as well play huntress or clown. I really think trapper needs more base traps and faster setting and pickup time. Some killers I feel need customized speeds where they are tweaked higher depending on how well they perform. Freddy could be at 120% Trapper and Pig at 118% Doc at 117% Clown and wraith and leatherface 116% they don't have to just be at a standard speed I feel like that's slightly lazy for the devs to just standardize most killers speeds. This would force survivors to do different strats with different killers instead of just running loops over and over again especially since most of these killers are already countered by exhaustion perks and pallets. I also think that pallet and gen kick speeds need some tweaks and that's something they could customize and tweak as well.

EDIT: Idk what they could do about powers since I feel like that the add on system just needs tweaks and adjustment. Trapper is way different with both iridescent add ons, but even then he's less of a threat than no add on nurse.

  • I don’t. It’s terrible game design for a supposedly competitive game.

  • Cause they want to create fun, not balance.
And yeah, i do get enjoyment out of moving fast. (Wraith with 2 Windstorms is pretty delicious.)
But what's not really fun is a Killer not being to do what their title suggests.

The devs seem to disagree, but it's not even out yet, so i'll keep any other opinions for now.

It's not fun. Sitting in lobby for 10-15 minutes then having your ruin popped in 30 seconds and a 3-4 minute gen rush with maybe 2 hooks if you're lucky is not really fun. I even debate if it's fun for survivors because they literally just sit in a couple of places for a few minutes doing gens while 1-2 guys circle around a few pallets.

I could see Legion becoming another strong farming killer like Doc since he stacks brutality points like crazy, coupled with Distressing and Thrill/Beast he could really get the points quickly.
