I get a kick out of successfully baiting or tricking killers.
Head On, when I can land it, is very fun. Divergence is great too. Sometimes I fail miserably when I get too cocky so it all evens out lol
-
It's like the Midwich map. If you're a fan, it's a comfy map that you'll know like the back of your hand. If you're not, you're boned lmao
But it's ridiculous to me that they're still selling the RE chapter knowing that this map launched with it and people will buy the game with the chapter expecting to play it and end up having issues getting it to load (before anyone says "hey it's free you don't pay for it", I know, I'm saying that it's something that was advertised and released alongside the chapter that people will expect to play when they do buy it).

It's always easy to see who does and does not play both roles on these forums. I started playing killer back in 2016 and after probably 100 hours I realized I should play survivor as well to help me understand killer better. Now I have around 1900 hours as killer and 1700 as survivor and playing both sides has helped me with both immensely. I always roll my eyes, laugh, or just shake my head when I see "mains" post on these forums. Killer mains think survivor is so easy and survivor mains think killers are unbalanced. If everyone played both sides these forums would actually be productive and not the same regurgitated hyperbolic threads over and over and over.
It gets too easy to feel sorry for yourself when you main. I survivor main and I fell into that sort of trap in the past, but it's really ridiculous. There's one user I see post a lot that talks about survivors as if they're some kind of political threat lmao
-
I've played killer a bit, but I personally don't enjoy it. It's not too hard or yucky or anything like that, it's just less fun for me to stalk than to survive. It's probably a symptom of the types of games I usually tend to play.
I agree that you learn a lot playing both roles, but at the same time, I wanna play the game the way that I want to. And I don't really wanna grind out a role I don't like just to learn things that I can already pick up just by participating in the game regardless and researching or asking questions when necessary. It's a slower process of learning the game, but I'm in no rush.
-
if u dont watch x streamer tutorial on how 2 play u suk
gtfo w i wanna learn as i play tf !!!!!!

My first match against Wraith after his update was oppressive as hell. A no fun allowed kind of match. I'm not a fan of how he body blocks survivors into corners either. It's a really cheap tactic (but not the worst if he's willing to move after the first hit).
He can feel pretty unfair, but it all really depends on who's playing him and how.

That's why it works Amanda is co-dependent and ghostface is just good at picking up chicks
Imagine when he tries to kick her to the curb though 💀
-
I don't use either for the same reasons.
Sprint Burst is a chore, especially when you run on accident and then you're on cooldown. It's the same reason I don't run Sabotage or Self-care. I always end up working on a hook when I try to heal a freshly unhooked survivor and go into cooldown, or I start mending when I try to throw down a pallet. They're more trouble than they're worth.
I like Dead Hard, but latency kills it like you said. More often than not, I get DH to activate and go into exhaustion right as I'm downed. I like running Head On, but I have the same issue with that too. A killer opens the locker from around the corner so I never have the opportunity to jump out, or we act at the same exact moment and I get pulled out of a closed locker. You're essentially at the mercy of luck with those perks.
-
Not a fan of the weird loli anime thing.
But Amanda is so co-dependent that I can't really imagine her not clinging to someone like Ghostface lol

One could DC while they get moved away from the hatch tho so that logic doesnt make any sense.
Besides that, they might could wiggle off then and we dont know everything like maybe they had a key or active DS or whatever.
Fair enough, but it's still a jerk move to prolong the match like that.

Birkin was just as strong if not stronger than Nemesis, I bet Leon could take him. Also, Chris would die to Nemesis? He's far more experienced than Jill. As someone above me pointed out, he's one of the most powerful RE protagonists.
Also, ain't no way in hell Ace is taking down Nemesis. Dude's an average-Joe who gambles a lot, that's about it.
The Outbreak survivors took out Thanatos and Nyx, and some of them were just as underwhelming as Ace if not moreso. It's definitely possible, but it has to work out just right.

Yeah I wholeheartedly agree with this. Because of the nerf that DS got, a lot of killers know that there's a good chance it won't be ran, so I've encountered more than my fair share of tunneling. Because of this I still find myself equipping it on the off chance that it does happen, even though I would much rather prefer to be using something else.
It's great if you're being tunneled, but if not its a waste of a perk slot.
Yeah. I usually don't have it equipped in favor of fun perks, but there are times where I really wish I'd brought it.
I get that DS was unfair before, but now people are using it as an excuse to play unfair themselves and Behavior backs it. The only things I really think they can do at this point are to either add some DS-like base kit protection for survivors (which I doubt they'd do because it'd force them to take a stance against these tactics), or change things to disincentivize tunneling. I'd hope that if there was less to gain from doing it, we'd see a decline.
-
I think the rework is perfectly fair as a pure anti-tunneling perk. The only thing I dislike is that it takes up a slot I could use for something truly fun and interesting instead of just being a base protection against forcing me out of the game prematurely.

I am incredibly offended by that "meh"
I just don't like her design that much in the new 3 😭 It's mainly the Leon-esque floofy hair

Couldn't the killer just move both survivors away from the hatch before hooking them? Sounds like they were being a jerk.

Hard disagree on Chris Redfield. Chris is just as, if not more capable than Jill. Even in his older years he is still one of the series' most capable and powerful protagonists.
I think Leon could defeat Nemesis too, as G-Birkin was arguably a more formidable opponent than Nemesis-post mutation (Edit: you have to remember that Nemesis's mutations were caused by the Tyrant host-body breaking down, while G-Birkin's mutations were caused by out-of-control regeneration and constant evolution.) G-Birkin was confirmed to have had a 6th and 7th form in the game's official manual if G5 had not perished in the lab explosion.
Agreed. Chris has taken on more than all four RE characters, with Leon not too far behind. Uroboros and the enhanced C-virus are no joke. Claire's taken on G and T-Phobos, so I couldn't see her dying to Nemesis either. Plus, they're all the core main characters of the series so they can't die anyway lol
Heather would have a very tough time against Nemesis, when you take into consideration what she was really going up against for the majority of Silent Hill 3. But she's incapable of dying in her game, so let's just assume it's the same here. I'd say Cybil would die against the final form though.
I'd swap David with Ace too. David is essentially a tank and can take a beating without faltering. Ace would scoot by on luck, but it might run out. Then again, he could always end up like Jim from Outbreak and have the tides turn in his favor.

He deserves it

Just telling the truth.

Competition has come and gone many, many times. Every game was either considered bad by most potential buyers (by whatever metric each individual had), or just didn't have enough potential buyers to be sustainable.
Either way, the notion that DbD has had no competition is false. Competition doesn't need to be good to qualify as such, it just needs to be present, which it definitely was. TBH, it seems to me that most people wouldn't consider any other game "competition" unless it DbD died out as a result of people moving from DbD to the other game, which is absurd, IMO.
Before someone brings up the F13th lawsuit for the reason why it died, that's just a myth. It was dying well before the lawsuit, which you can easily verify by looking up player data. Keep in mind that the lawsuit was about one year after the game launched, then note how many players were left after 4 months.
I wouldn't be surprised if part of that was just because it only covered one license, and a dated one at that. Everyone's big on the 80s nostalgia but I wonder how many people are still actively fans of Friday the 13th as a whole and would appreciate the game for all of the throwbacks it has to offer. Something like DBD covers more ground in that regard by having multiple licenses, including truly dead yet beloved ones like Silent Hill.
@Sonzaishinai said:
There was competition. DbD was just better.
People don't seem to want to admit this but on the grand scale the devs have done an amazing job with dbd.
Licising helped ofcourse but this is not the only reason. Friday the 13th and that resident evil asymetrical game had some of the biggest names in horror and couldn't come close to dbd.
It's time to admit it. DbD is a pretty good game
Capcom honestly killed RE:sistance on their own. They locked the release behind RE:3 which was the first mistake, and the second was that they didn't implement any sort of anti-cheat since this sort of genre is out of their element. They have a horrible track record with keeping up to date on their releases too and adding new content over time. RE:sistance did pretty well with that for a while, but it seems like it fizzled out pretty quickly. The game itself could've done better in more competent hands. But now they're moving on to a new online title like always, and that'll have the same fate most likely.
But like you said, DBD already has a devoted player base, so it would take a lot to not only gain players' interest but to also win that devotion over as well.
-
I was like, why is Brendan Frasier in that list? Then I remembered The Mummy is supposed to be a remake of the Universal film.
Now I'm wondering why we haven't had any Universal crossovers. Or Hammer crossovers. Or even more Dimension crossovers. I guess they probably cost a lot and there's less understanding between them than horror game crossovers.

What maters is that it looks nice.
If there is a cosmetic to be won, I want it. And I don't care what it is.
I honestly think they should just release everything to the shop or to be earned after a certain amount of time has passed. Since there's no market for these cosmetics, the idea of status items is kind of non-existent.
-
I understand your frustration, but this is honestly something you're just gonna have to live with. Like many have said, either turn cross-play off or leave it on.
Posting a thread in feedback about being able to choose which platforms you crossplay with is a good follow-up, but a thread here is just a place to vent. It's not going to get the word to the devs.
-
It's annoying, but at least the killer tends to have mercy on me for being the only one not to bail lol
If anything, all of this proves how little the game incentivizes survivors' one core strength: teamwork. It's the hardest objective to pull off despite being so important. Tbh people DCing like that is just as bad as killer holding the match hostage.

- I didn't say he was unbalanced. I'm pointing out a few kind of ridiculous mechanics (in my opinion) that come with him. Blocking windows and pallets by getting shocked is fine, play around it, easy. I just don't like that I can't heal my teammates or pull off a clutch play without going into a 30 second cooldown to get out of madness
- For your second point, I've stated multiple times that I don't play killer and acknowledge that this post will be survivor biased because that is my strongest side of the game. And yeah, it is an overall bad map. I just don't know what makes it bad from the killer's point of view.
- What you're talking about doesn't happen in red ranks. (Assuming the people in red ranks actually deserve red ranks, the rank system in this game is pretty bad) But once you become an experienced survivor, you can tell when its the games fault that you get hit through pallets. And sometimes I make a mistake where I throw it too late and get hit, that I don't complain about.
- BHVR absolutely can do something about face camping and tunneling. They can introduce incentives to not face camp or have punishments to try and prevent it. This of course won't solve the problem, but it will help. Tunneling on the other hand, no, BHVR can't really do much. And that's my point, I can't have a fun game without bringing decisive and borrowed time AT LEAST to avoid getting tunneled or face camped just because the killer is upset that I ran him for a couple minutes.
- I mentioned gen-rushing once in my post as a sarcastic term to point out how bad the ranking system is in this game. That is, if something possibly out of your control happens (like getting actually gen rushed) then you lose your rank, even if you couldn't do anything.
- You're right, because of my skill I only get high ranked killers and therefor have to bring meta perks to win, bringing meme builds to have fun simply doesn't work.
They don't even have to do all of that to combat camping, tunneling, and slugging. They'd just have to say that it's not tolerated and/or add base kit defenses against it. But they're all considered viable strategies and they've tailored perks to combat them (not very well tbh, but they exist).
Basically as long as Behavior's cool with it, there's nothing anyone can do except talk about it. I'm on the receiving end of that BS all the time, so trust me I hate it too, but it's just how it is unfortunately.
-
I never DC regardless of how bad the match is going.
But I'm just saying, maybe being able to block players might ease that a bit. If someone wants to block every stridor spirit, they'll end up very lonely, but that's their prerogative. I'd just like to block the most unfair of the unfair that have tempted me into DCing in the past.

Deny it all you want, that's fine. I know what the evidence of my own senses for the last five years playing this game has told me. I play Survivor, get little or no bad treatment except from other survivors. I play Killer and get insulted, called all kinds of vile things, dogpiled, doxxed and my kid threatened plus some hate speech on top of it all. Yes, all of that has happened in my time both playing and streaming DbD. These people are animals and it was encouraged by everyone from the devs to the community to the piece of ######### streamers who popularized it and got away with it because everyone was too afraid to say anything to them.

That long list comes down to 'my opponent is beating my ass, I'm not winning and losing isn't fun so I quit.'
People who swear that attitude is toxic still do it themselves, and always have. This is why you drop that 'everything must be maximum fun!' mentality and encourage people to play to win.
It sounds like you're long overdue for a break from the game tbh.

I am not suggesting not rewarding survivors for saving and healing people. I am suggesting not punishing them for not being able to. If the survivors are super-skilled and completely avoid the killer without sacrificing an individual that's their job, but an entire set of bloodpoints require letting the other survivors get hooked and hit.
I know what you mean. I'm just saying that the killer loses out by not doing it either, so both sides lose out in the end. If the killer doesn't initiate it, or if they're built to cause issues with it, then obviously that blows. But I like the give and take aspect of it. I'd say if anything, they should streamline the emblems a bit so that the give and take is still there but we don't lose out as much by being put in that predicament.
-
I'm not sure of any other way for it to go, since killers need survivors to get hooks and hits as well. It's a mutually beneficial thing.
Obviously it can be impossible against killers that break those systems though, like trying to heal against Plague or unhook against Executioner.
-
PLEASE. I would really love Maria, Mary, and Eileen for Heather. Eileen is more of a stretch since 4 rarely gets represented, but I'd still love it.
Maybe Harry and James too somehow? 😭
-
It varies from game to game, honestly. Teamwork can be nearly impossible to pull off, but as long as you're there to have fun and not necessarily to win, it's not the end of the world. If I can at least make sure all 4 of us end the game with over 10k bp, then I'm happy. People that don't consider anything short of an escape a win will have a very different opinion on that lol
-

-
You know what I really hate? Sitting in queue for 20 minutes so I can get into a match that ends in the first 5 minutes where I got to do absolutely nothing. Where even ignoring gens got me in trouble. Where the killer is way too aggressive and has no mercy, deciding that only they are allowed to enjoy the game.
BUT, despite all of that headache, I at least get to move one or two measly spots on the bloodweb. If I DC, I just screw everyone else over and waste all of that time for nothing. Why do that to myself and my teammates? I don't get it.
-
Sometimes I'll stay behind to make sure everyone else gets out or to get in the EGC heal points, which is what we should be doing as survivor (unless it's unsafe).
I used to stay behind so killer could get more points hitting me, but killers consistently say they don't like that so I stopped. One got kinda pissy at me for it too. I guess to be fair, they aren't as strapped for points as survivors are, so something done out of kindness on my end didn't really apply to someone who didn't need it.
-

SWF with comms and they couldn't find them? In the RPD? Someone needs to play RE2 lol
-
I should keep count sometime, but they're extremely rare in my games. I've used them in challenges when necessary, or just by dumb luck if I happened to get one in a chest and actually had the chance to use it, but the amount of times I find a key and swap it, or escape without ever using it, or die and leave it on the ground vastly outnumber anything else. And I've rarely seen my teammates use one successfully either.
-
I was in a match yesterday where killer was tunneling this Claudette and I did everything I could to stand in between them and took a hook for her. Then I realized she was really clicky with the flashlight and assumed that was the reason why lol She unhooked me which was cool, but I wasn't about to take the fall for her again so I went and did other things instead. I usually just won't participate if people are being mean to the killer.

I have two opinions on this: the game can either be more on the gamey competitive side, or it can be more on the scary side. But it can't be both. What makes great classic horror games scary are elements like surprise, isolation, fight or flight, and so on, which DBD mimicks fairly well. But DBD also has to balance itself out on the more competitive side too, which one-sided horror games don't. Essentially if DBD were a truly scary game, the current game we're playing would be the side game mode you unlock at the end.
The other thing is that once you consume a lot of horror, you become desensitized. I know people that can't even play DBD because they get so scared, they can't even move. Or they flub skill checks constantly because they can't focus. To those people, the game is absolutely terrifying as is. But to us, it's all second nature. I feel the same way with the games I've played for years. When I rented RE3 as a kid, I couldn't leave the storehouse because I was too scared. Now I run through the whole thing in one sitting, no sweat. Basically, a game like this can't be scary forever. They would have to completely change it routinely or make new games.
-
They're too different to compare, imo.
But I agree that one of the nice things about survivor is the downtime between chases.

Yeah I didn't intend to rustle so many peoples' jimmies. This game is kind of starting to lose its charm for me so I may move on to something more fun to me. I don't like things to be easy because the match isn't any fun.
I really wouldn't worry too much about what they have to say. Hypothetically speaking, even if you were here to stir the pot, people were already chomping at the bit to take the bait, you know what I mean? lol That sort of anger isn't really worth acknowledging.
That sucks to hear, but I know exactly what you mean. I love horror and it's a fun game to play casually with friends, so I'm here for the long haul. But for any sort of challenge, I can see how the game can be pretty easily won if you're determined enough.

There are some people who understands the nuances. But they're far and few in between.
I do think BHVR is an incompetent mess, but not it's developers. Mostly it's management that deals with the decisions behind the game's direction.
I do think they should work on fixing bugs, and they should delay content chapters because of it.
But I'm not going to say that DBD has been a complete disappointment to me. Especially 3000 hours in.
I agree. The development staff seem to care, even if I don't always agree with some of their choices, but the bottom line doesn't always take us into account. Too often we're taken advantage of by advertising and pricing and we don't deserve to be treated like that for supporting the game. But obviously the game itself can't be too bad because we keep coming back and I do genuinely enjoy myself 90% of the time (only 650 hours in so far lol). It'd just be nice if things were done better.
@Katie_met said:
Here's why they don't go out of their way to make the game great and fix every bug and ensure the community is happy- there's no competition. Scott Jund often mentions this. There are no other games like dbd, and any games similar to it will never really gain the popularity because think about how big dbd is now and how many incredible licenses are in the game. There is no rush because there is no threat from other games, people can threaten to stop playing like they did with the 'dead by boycott', but there would be no other game to play because there are no other games like this.
Additionally, bugs will always exist in this game because of the way the game is coded. Scott Jund also made a video on this. Dbd intended to be a small game, and Trapper was going to be the only killer. The coding that was originally used is cheap and easy coding because they couldn't hire experienced top tier coders because they didn't have the funding for it. Because the game grew and is still growing, they need to keep adding more content, because they keep adding more content to this simple coding, it means when they fix one bug it will just cause another one. The only way this could be resolved is if they recode the game, but because there is so much content, and they keep adding content, it'll take too long to completely recode the game. So it's likely it will always be this way.
Those are very good points. It reminds me a lot of how EA is with The Sims, unfortunately.

I think most people are missing the point in how frustrating this game is and most bugs seem to appear as fast as 1 can be fixed.
Opinions aside, most of what you’ve spoken is facts. The forums will always find ways to criticize you. Twitter users (and Instagram users to an extent) will mostly wholeheartedly support your points.
I've noticed it tends to be in extremes. Either you get the people that expect you to be "thankful" and never verbalize the things you're unhappy with, or you get the people that pick apart every tiny detail and can't find anything positive about the game. Way too emotional about criticism that I'm sure most people are feeling, like the constant problem of fixing one problem and causing five more like you mentioned lol
