Sounds like a gameplay error of you.
If you know it takes ages to catch up to a survivor holding w after a speedboost why are you chasing them?
Go after the ones who are working on gens instead and leave the survivor who's most likely sprinted to an area without generators for later
Chasing through injure speed boost is how most genrushes happen
The problems come when every survivor knows to hold W. You go near a gen, they’re gone and uncatchable. Meanwhile other survivors are doing gens.

Yup, he joins most of the rest of the cast of killers who can’t compete with good survivors.

How about you? If you are playing a game of basketball, would you be more or less satisfied winning against a bunch of kindergartners 20 out of 20 times, or being able to win 10 games out of 20 against people of equal caliber?
Ultimately, whether you are for or against this MMR system will tell you what kind of a person you are.
No it won’t…. the game is broken. M1 killers like pig and Michael will lose 9/10 matches against good survivors. If the game was balanced, mmr would be fine.

I don't disagree with anything you said. My question though, if you are already a better than average killer, getting on average more than 2k, then MMR hits and it works as intended, dropping you down to a 2k average, are you going to be more or less satisfied with the game?
Less. I shouldn’t be handicapped into not being able to 4k . Why play if I don’t influence the outcome. The potential for a 4k should always exist

How many kills would you need to get to say that? I'm guessing if you said that you probably got a 3 or 4k. If your average drops down to 2k, and more times than not you trying results in a 2k, do you think you will feel the same?
I think the point is that killers should feel like their play matters and has consequences. With most of the cast, I know when the game loads in if I am going to be able to win or not, depending on the skill of the survivors. The match shouldn’t feel predetermined, which it does right now.

Doubling back doesn’t work against a good nurse unless you’re on a 2 story structure
LOS blocking doesn’t work if she uses her first blink to get close enough and uses her second to secure a hit
Acting unpredictable is useless against a good nurse because sound exists and she has two blinks
Both spirit and nurse are an issue because they completely remove survivor options
Completely not true. It doesn’t matter how good the nurse is, she can only blink so far. For example, if the survivor fakes doubling back (starts going back but then runs forward), the Nurse will not get enough distance off of her 2nd blink to catch up. This was made even more of a weakness with her needless nerf.

I'm saying when you have actual top tier killers vs top tier survivors it's pretty even with maps being the biggest single factor.
It's nowhere near being even. If you watch tournaments, Nurse and Spirit are getting 2K at best (and the community still wants both nerfed.) Survivors have a major advantage.

That is what I'm telling this individual, I 100% understand why they balance around casuals. That is the majority of the base is casual, since this game has a somewhat of a low player retention. A lot of my friends only play this game with SWF, and never even touch it solo. It's basically a game you either like don't based on what I seen.
Balancing for good players would have little to no effect on casual players. The simple truth is that if you don’t know how to loop and run tiles, as well as counterplay to specific killers, you aren’t going to last long. Nerfing problematic perks would probably not change the escape rates for these players; only the top percent are able to exploit them.

If this were a competitive game sure. News flash, it's not. They do balance around average players. Which makes a hell of alot more sense than balancing around a tiny fraction of the player base.
Again, every game, competitive or not balances around skilled players. Why does skill only matter for killer? The community is in an uproar about killers like Nurse and Spirit, who are only good in skilled hands, yet have been nerfed, but survivor needs to be balanced for bad players? What?
-

Yeah, and those builds don't let the god Nurses consistently stomp god squads, so your point is what exactly? In this game, the gen speed are an issue because there's just so much built-in time waste for killers (such as hooking). Nurse isn't immune to this just because she's the best killer if you give her good add-ons. It's either this, or its slugging time. Odds are really good your team lost because you made way too many mistakes, didn't waste enough of the Nurse's time, and/or didn't make use of the time waste.
I mean, if we're unironically having this conversation that the strength of the killer should influence the perks they're allowed to have, then premade lobbies should have exhaustion perks and anti-slugging perks banned. Exhaustion perks aside from Smash Hit and Head On represent free, braindead chase extension and time waste for the majority of killers. Meanwhile, slugging is a method of punishing survivor mistakes, making anti-slugging a form of second chances. If all Nurses have to be restricted because they're insane Nurse players, than SWF should be restricted because there are insane SWFs that are out there that you will not win against unless you're skilled with the top-tier killers and have a sweaty build like you posted.
Great post. There is an odd double standard that says we should balance killer around people who are good with them, but survivor needs to consider scrub skill. “SWF is fine because they are rare” but good Nurses aren’t….. because reasons?

You're not wrong, no decade is perfect. But things were just so different. We didn't have the vicious political tribalism that we have today (again, the president won 97 percent of the vote, which will likely never happen again. The message from the government was one of peace, working together, hope. Individual personalities were allowed to shine. Personal fashion was allowed to run rampant. There was no 9/11. Mass shootings weren't a regular thing. Gangs and drug cartels weren't destroying entire cities. It was a decade of character, of self-expression. Things were just more carefree, more positive. It wasn't a perfect decade, but it's as perfect a decade as I've ever experienced.
It’s give and take. Sure we have many problems, but we also have more widespread acceptance. Reagan completely ignored AIDS and lgbtq people, built massive debt, and did things that massively widened wealth inequality.

I've been around for what's inching towards half a century. I got the book reference. :)
But yes, that truly was the last great decade in my opinion. There was virtually no political correctness and no one cared or got seriously irate about it. We had a president who won the 2nd-greatest landslide in the history of presidential elections, carrying all but 3 states the first time and all but one state the second time. We had Garbage Pail Kids, Masters of the Universe, M.U.S.C.L.E., every kind of gimmick candy you could think of, the boom of personal computers and the rise and fall of the home video game market, everyone dressed however they wanted and were free to be themselves, everything was neon, and music and movies all rocked.
This reminds me that there's a really good, really overlooked horror movie called "Summer of '84".
Most people say the decade they grew up in is great. No offense, but the 80s had more than its fair share of problems. People have been pining for the “good old days” since ancient Greek times.

Okay, first of all there is a ######### ginormous distinction between the terms "majority" and "a lot", so don't put words in my mouth and pretend I said that Blight can't play the majority of tiles. Second, counterplay isn't guessing. There's no skill to a guess, that's why it's called a guess and not "Knowledge". Counterplay is doing something meaningful to prevent the killer from hitting you, it's not hoping the killer ######### up. All this BS about 50/50's is exactly the same nonsense people scream about with Spirit, it's not ######### counterplay, it's the Blight sucking dick.
Yup, you’re right: survivors should render the killer’s power meaningless with strong loops that actually have no counterplay. Sounds like a recipe for super fun killer matches.

Which should tell you about the current state of the game…. No matter how fast you chase, you will lose the game without gen slowdown.

Where did I ever say he was huntress or slinger level ? No I said he's very usable. Which he is. People act like you can't get a single kill with him. And thats just not true. Piggy is worse. I'll take trickster making pallets, windows, loops unsafe. Over pigs slowdown any day. I can cuck a pig for days at loops and with pallets. Trickster not so much
So then he’s pointless. Why would anyone want to play a killer that does their job, but far worse? Trickster is a complete design failure.

Yeap. That's exactly how it works. People love spewing out what their favorite streamer says. When blight first got his rework. I used him and quickly started to tell anyone who listened he was S-Tier. And I was told how wrong I was. And now here we are after the popular streamers finally caught on.
I've been saying Wraith is A-Tier WITH add ons and a good player behind him. And I just keep being told "wraith is still wraith". I'm waiting for the big boys to say how good he is just once and this will be popular opinion soon enough
Trickster is no different. He's VERY usable with some good aim. I had someone literally count the average number of blades it took to down someone in my video...It was 33. I'm using murderous melody so that's 7 per health state. That means I'm downing someone with 14 out of 33 shots. That means I'm roughly hitting 50 %. No one is claiming he's OP. But to claim he's unusable is just flat out wrong. I'll continue to argue trapper, legion, Myers, piggy are in worse states
Or you know you could just play Slinger or Huntress and instantly take a health state. How do you not see the massive gap in power? Also, there is no way Piggy is worse than trickster. Even with sub par rng, she is able to slow down the match. Trickster has nothing to do that.

Just because they are new doesn't mean their opinion isn't valid. What absolute foolishness is that?
New players experiences matter just as much as someone with 8K hours and their opinions on balance should be noted just the same as everyone else.
New player experience is bad because BHVR doesn’t teach people how to play their game and because the grind is insane. What other aspect of life do we listen to people who don’t know what they are talking about? If i’m going to make a decision on buying a car, i’m going to listen to someone who is knowledgeable, not some bozo who hasn’t done his/her homework.

I'm with @Orion & @EvilJoshy on this. I'd be fine for linking your game accounts to the forum - great way to stop all the alternate accounts that get created! But having stats to show who was worthy to give an opinion (which is what it would boil down to), would be pretty bad and create something completely elitist.
New players are just as important as veteran players and their opinion is just as valid - having stats showing on the forums would get those newer players points of view completely written off.
The whole "stats on show" would just make the discussions a big "I've got 2 more hours than you so I know better" type of thing, which isn't what we are looking for here at all.
A player who is complaining about about something they don’t understand (looping, specific killer counterplay) does not have a valid opinion on balance. Devs shouldn’t be taking balancing feedback from people who don’t put in the proper time to learn. You should have to learn the game to have success: it shouldn’t be instant. If it is, i’d say that the game is probably bad.

Wind up, fire rate, and cool down. Because all of those are faster for Trickster, he can unload 16 knives before Huntress can let fly with 2 charged hatchets. And he loses less distance while doing it. Doubly so if he's got one of the initial fire rate add ons.
But again.... one huntress hit is a health state, so you only have to land 2 at most. Why go to more trouble? The same goes for Deathslinger (who can hit shots huntress cannot)
-
@FFirebrandd said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2233872#Comment_2233872
So... honestly I would almost argue that Trickster isn't a chase killer.
Why?
Because like you said, there's a lot of structures that he can't really handle. Shack, Jungle Gyms, even TL walls can give him trouble without some nifty M1 mindgames. Main buildings are kind of hit and miss. What kind of chase centric killer can't handle those? A bad one, that's what.
However, there's some things he does far better than Huntress. Trickster's knives are actually more lethal than Huntress's hatchets are. Seriously, he can churn through Survivor health states far faster than any other ranged killer. I have had a LOT of unsafe unhooks turn into 2 Survivors eating dirt despite BT. It happens very frequently. Similarly, if a good Trickster finds a Survivor in a spot where they don't have easy access to a tile he can't handle... they kinda just die. Also, unlike Huntress, he doesn't have a 40m warning he's coming.
For those reasons, I would honestly say that Trickster isn't chase centric... he's Ambush centric and Territorial. If he's played to those strengths, he gets a lot better than everyone says he is. B tier is pushing it, but he can put in some real work.
This is 100% wrong. How can you compare hatchets to knives when one instantly injures while the other has to be landed 8 times? I’m legit not sure if people in this thread are trolling or don’t understand the game.

I mean. With there being zero cooldown between blades trickster can down faster then DS seeing how trickster can keep throwing during the injured sprint burst while DS has to go through swipe animation and most likely reloading animation.
DS is miles better then trickster cause he doesn't have the crippling weaknessess trickster has.
But it really isn't hard to think of situations where trickster downs people faster then DS does.
That almost never leads to 2 health states and a down. The survivor still gets a sprint burst and can find cover.

I've said it once, i'll say it another time. Trickster is way too weak
I've tried everything, i've tried different builds, different addons, i've even tried a slow-down build. Nothing has helped it, Survivors just keep on looping around the shack and stuff and i just end up looking like a joke
I have Asperger's, i don't need to be made fun of by survivors because because of a killer that is overdue for another buff and makes the Nurse look like Road-Runner *meep meep*
i know the Devs say they'll look into it at the mid-chapter patch, so until i hear news of good buffs for Trickster, i'm giving up on it
I’m with you. I hear these absurd stories of “he’s good in the right hands” but no one can ever explain why. I’ve also asked people to explain a single situation in which DS doesn’t down faster; no one has ever responded. The killer is worthless and BHVR should be embarrassed that they thought he was fine to release.

She's arguably the best killer in the game but I love going against her, even if she's good. But lately when I do face her, she worries me for a moment. She'll chase my teammates for less than a minute and it seems they keep going down to her. When it's my time to be chased, the chases usually lasts a few minutes because I lose LOS, loop, etc. After a few minutes, she'll either lose chase or down me.
Then I'm left thinking, "This Nurse gave you guys a hard time, THIS NURSE, REALLY?!"
I still love facing her. Gives me a challenge that the other killers don't.
I agree. I main Nurse and when I play survivor I tend to be the only person on the team that isn’t downed in 10 seconds. It’s a shame that most survivors refuse to learn and spam “no counterplay” and “breaks the rules”.

I mean, Spirit is all but in a good place. I'd say almost. Give her a visual cue thag she is phasing and nerf her Add-ons, then she might be fine.
Nurse ignores all Survivors defenses, those defenses are meant to exist so you can evade the Killer.
I agree that some pallets and windows are bs, like god pallets and god windows and entire Haddoncrap needs to be looked at.
I wouldn't say that unpredictability should be the meta of this game, but outplaying via mindgames should be the meta. On certain loops this is definitely possible, but not on some others, those others definitely need to be looked at.
There are no mindgames at strong loops. The survivor dictates if he/she wants to be greedy or safe. It is broken design.

PH's attack can be dodged quite easily and holding W against him makes him pretty weak. He is hard to loop but pre-dropping pallets and holding W is his form of brainless counterplay.
Hag, just hold W when she places a trap. Disturb her when she sets up traps. Run to a trap if you know there is one wait till you are right at the edge of the trigger range and then run back. She won't be able to lunge at you, the slowdown she gets gives you enough distance.
Against Nurse, she ignores everything whenever she wants. Her counterplay is partly "holding W", partly "break LoS" but mostly "be unpredictable". If you try the same jukes all the time, you'll get hit. If you don't juke at all, you'll get hit. I'd say the closest to Nurse would be Spirit because she is also all about being unpredictable.
I’d say having to be unpredictable is a sign that the killer is in a good place- both sides get to play. Base DBD is broken, probably to an unfixable level

Enlighten me then. Tell me what was incorrect about my comment. Learn what exactly? That Nurse does have counter play if it's a bad Nurse player? Is that what you mean?
Nope all Nurses have counterplay because she has to predict your movement. When she starts blinking, she has to know if you are going to keep running or turn back towards her. If she reads u running forward and you decide to turn back, her second blink will not have enough range to catch up. This guess is even harder for her if you have structures/los blockers.
I steamroll about 99% of survivors with Nurse because they hold forward and never try engaging in a mind game.

I think the OP's point is more that Nurse is very rarely complained about even though she is stronger then Spirit and has less counter play then Spirit. For example, if you drop a god pallet against a Spirit, then she has to break it. They could be the best Spirit player on planet earth but they can't ignore everything the Survivors have, just most of what they have. However, Nurse doesn't give a damn about some silly little 'god pallet'. Indeed, a good Nurse can essentially just ignore pallets entirely. Maybe I'm weird here but personally, I don't think that a Killer being able to negate literally EVERY defence the other side has is healthy for the game. Not only does it make for boring gameplay, but it also makes for very imbalanced gameplay. A bad Nurse is really fun to face but a good Nurse? Absolute snooze-fest. It doesn't and shouldn't matter that Nurse is rarely played. I agree with you though. If they leave her as is, then she'll continue to stomp on literally everyone because of her inherent lack of counter play, or they nerf her and she ends up being gutted. Nurse can never and will never be balanced in her current state and as such, she must be reworked entirely.
You're right, people are totally entitled to complain about Spirit, I do myself. However, from what I've seen, the anger is disproportionately focused on Spirit. Spirit is hated beyond measure yet whenever Nurse comes up, she is typically excused of her lack of counter play because she's 'hard to play'. Spirit is despised and Nurse is just given a free pass from this hate, even in spite of her obvious lack of counter play.
The only thing obvious is that you don’t like to learn.

I don’t think any reasonable person would say that you are toxic for running. What is true is that holding forward and the speed boost from getting hit are way too strong against walking killers. There isn’t any real gameplay. That’s a balancing issue the devs need to look at, but it doesn’t make you toxic.

My example still stands too. So now we're back to square one and we've gotten nowhere.
My point is that what you and I say doesn't really matter. General statistics matter. The game has changed in many ways since 2019, and all of those complicate the task of determining how much the overheat mechanic affects him. Add-ons change was undeniably a nerf, albeit a deserved one (since the devs are trying to take DBD down the less add-on-dependent road), but it's improper to say, "I see less Billies, Billy is trash now."
People use what is good. I see an army of Spirit players because she can compete. I see almost no Billies. Also, those stats are trash for the most part. Kill rates are high because the vast majority of players are bad at the game. When bad players clash, killer usually wins because it is fundamentally simple.

I haven't gone against a Ghostface in eons. So now, it's just your word against mine. See the issue?
No, because my example still stands: he was incredibly common before he was nerfed. The data you showed actually goes against your argument. Billy’s pick rate is lower than many killers, which is especially bad because he is base and killers that you actually have to pay money for have higher pick rates.

You're one player in a sea of thousands per server network in a sea of hundreds of server networks. Don't be surprised if what you see doesn't reflect the entire game.
I play the game for hours every day and have seen maybe THREE Billys since the nerf. It seems to be a pretty common experience. Even without having the larger context, I can tell you that Billy was easily one of the most common killers I faced before he was nerfed. Now it’s pretty much Spirit, Ghostface, Blight or Deathslinger. Billy is simply not worth playing anymore. There are other killers with a comparable or even lower skill ceiling who are far more effective than Billy.

"because according to the devs he was the most balanced killer" - nonsense. The Devs never said it like that, the Community made this up. And Billy was called "the most balanced Killer" for at least two years. But if Killer gets easier and easier over time, something which was called "the most balanced Killer" in 2018 cannot be "the most balanced Killer" in 2021.
His Nerf was justified. I also would disagree with Billy being that low on the Tier List, he is still a force when used by someone who is decent with him. Probably not against really strong Survivors, but then again, this goes for almost every Killer.
Losing killers who can compete against strong survivors is bad for the game. The nerf was not justified.

One person winning and one person losing says nothing about the fairness of a competition. The survivor is the only one who needs to guess against a killer that can zone. The killer can just react to the survivor.
Not true at all. DS has to guess if you are going to go around a corner or swerve out. He has to take the shot or he will lose his chance.

1) Why can't you give him other buffs to compensate?
2) Why is "He just missed" flawed? The best you can do as survivor is anticipate a shot and preemptively dodge at the right time, with the downside of usually taking a quick hit if you guess wrong.
His balance in the 1v4 is fine, agreed, but his problems are in the 1v1.
Guess right. How is a situation in which one person wins, one person loses not fair?

Nurse and Oni are also at the top of my list to play against and they're strong. It has nothing to do with their performance level. It has to do with their skill ceiling. Deathslinger takes no skill because he can feign his power and win chases because of it. And Demo is not bad, just because you're not good with him it doesn't make him a bad killer.
I consistently beat demo as survivor... try again
